[00:01:06] [SPEAKER_00]: Are you on a, is it X or Twitter for you?

[00:01:09] [SPEAKER_01]: Either one's fine, you know I know how hard it is when something changes like that to get the name, the original name out of your mind.

[00:01:15] [SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, Twitter we know that it's X now.

[00:01:19] [SPEAKER_01]: My main platform is definitely TikTok.

[00:01:22] [SPEAKER_01]: Working on getting back on YouTube had a couple of people hack my account so it's kind of hard to do the work on that.

[00:01:28] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh boy, I'm sorry.

[00:01:29] [SPEAKER_01]: And got myself on Instagram.

[00:01:32] [SPEAKER_00]: Well, I appreciate that you're making time to be here.

[00:01:35] [SPEAKER_00]: I see your TikToks and I see how busy you are.

[00:01:37] [SPEAKER_00]: I think I first came across you because I was posting some Tolkien TikToks and somebody said

[00:01:41] [SPEAKER_00]: you got to collaborate with Nubeta Dubeta.

[00:01:44] [SPEAKER_00]: He knows what's going on and I said, okay, I got to check this guy out.

[00:01:48] [SPEAKER_00]: And I'm glad I did.

[00:01:49] [SPEAKER_00]: You're very knowledgeable.

[00:01:50] [SPEAKER_00]: You make it really easy to understand topics in bite-sized chunks and I appreciate what you give to that community.

[00:01:58] [SPEAKER_01]: Thank you so much.

[00:01:58] [SPEAKER_01]: That means the world to me.

[00:01:59] [SPEAKER_01]: That's what I try to do, man.

[00:02:01] [SPEAKER_01]: I try to make it relatable for everybody and I really appreciate the invitation to be on this podcast.

[00:02:06] [SPEAKER_01]: It's really awesome, man.

[00:02:07] [SPEAKER_01]: So I'm glad to get in here and talk about Tolkien with you and I'm just excited, man.

[00:02:11] [SPEAKER_01]: Let's go, man.

[00:02:13] [SPEAKER_00]: Very cool.

[00:02:13] [SPEAKER_00]: Can you tell me how you began your Tolkien journey?

[00:02:17] [SPEAKER_00]: I feel like we all have our different origin stories.

[00:02:19] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, my Tolkien journey began with me being bad in school.

[00:02:23] [SPEAKER_01]: So not bad.

[00:02:24] [SPEAKER_01]: I was very smart always, super knowledgeable and super smart, but I was bad in school.

[00:02:32] [SPEAKER_01]: I wanted the attention so I would get detention a lot and I would be in detention

[00:02:37] [SPEAKER_01]: and at one point in our school's history, the tension was held in the library.

[00:02:42] [SPEAKER_01]: And to make the time go by faster, I just began reading because I always loved reading

[00:02:47] [SPEAKER_01]: and a friend of mine was like, yo man, you should read The Hobbit

[00:02:50] [SPEAKER_01]: and he showed me the book and it had a picture of, you know, Bilbo in the airy with the Lord of the Eagles, Guahir.

[00:02:57] [SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, yo, I don't even know if it was the...

[00:02:59] [SPEAKER_01]: Let me stop.

[00:03:00] [SPEAKER_01]: Let me run that back because it's not said that he was in Guahir's airy.

[00:03:04] [SPEAKER_01]: He was in it with the eagle and it looked really cool.

[00:03:06] [SPEAKER_01]: His giant eagle and this little bitty creature.

[00:03:09] [SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, yo, this looks cool.

[00:03:10] [SPEAKER_01]: And I read it because I always liked fantasy and I fell in absolute love.

[00:03:15] [SPEAKER_01]: Now I had even seen the cartoon before the 1987 Rankin' in Bass version of The Hobbit

[00:03:24] [SPEAKER_01]: before I didn't make the connection at first and I was like, oh, this is that story.

[00:03:27] [SPEAKER_01]: And then reading it, getting a full story.

[00:03:29] [SPEAKER_01]: I was obsessed in the writing style of Tolkien just really grasping it and it really spoke to me.

[00:03:39] [SPEAKER_01]: So after that, I was like, I'm done.

[00:03:40] [SPEAKER_01]: Thank you so much.

[00:03:41] [SPEAKER_01]: And I thought that was the end.

[00:03:42] [SPEAKER_01]: And then he was like, yo man, you got to read The Lord of the Rings

[00:03:44] [SPEAKER_01]: and he gave me The Lord of the Rings and I was like, there's more?

[00:03:48] [SPEAKER_01]: I read The Lord of the Rings and even more so just fell all over again,

[00:03:53] [SPEAKER_01]: even harder, deeper into love with Tolkien's writing style, his lore, his visions of the world,

[00:04:03] [SPEAKER_01]: everything, Middle Earth, the characters, everything you could think of and imagine about it.

[00:04:08] [SPEAKER_01]: I loved it and I just began reading it obsessively and finding more and more of his works

[00:04:16] [SPEAKER_01]: to eventually got it to the Silmarillion after some trouble reading that.

[00:04:20] [SPEAKER_01]: Initially, I became like obsessed with it and became an expert on the Silmarillion

[00:04:26] [SPEAKER_01]: and so on and so forth on The Finished Tales and this more and more talk I could absorb.

[00:04:30] [SPEAKER_01]: And you know, I just read it just constantly, constantly, just constantly.

[00:04:34] [SPEAKER_01]: And so that just became a Super Lord person.

[00:04:38] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know how to describe it.

[00:04:39] [SPEAKER_00]: You I think you did.

[00:04:41] [SPEAKER_00]: You're a super lore person.

[00:04:42] [SPEAKER_00]: You're on the Lorehounds podcast.

[00:04:44] [SPEAKER_00]: It's a good place to be.

[00:04:46] [SPEAKER_00]: It's funny.

[00:04:47] [SPEAKER_00]: I reached out to you and that's a great origin story.

[00:04:49] [SPEAKER_00]: And I love that you brought up, you know, it's hard to get into the Silmarillion at first

[00:04:54] [SPEAKER_00]: because you picked a chapter that I thought I was going to have to pay someone

[00:05:00] [SPEAKER_00]: a million dollars to talk with me because this is the chapter

[00:05:06] [SPEAKER_00]: that people often fall off of the Silmarillion and they say

[00:05:10] [SPEAKER_00]: it's not for you.

[00:05:11] [SPEAKER_01]: Chapters really ever like it is so good of Beleri in his rooms.

[00:05:16] [SPEAKER_01]: I teach at Chista Silmarillion.

[00:05:21] [SPEAKER_01]: Currently, I teach it at Signum University.

[00:05:24] [SPEAKER_01]: You know, Corey Olson, the Tolkien professor, you know, his university.

[00:05:28] [SPEAKER_01]: So I teach it in August.

[00:05:30] [SPEAKER_01]: Stop at the beginning of August, I'll be starting my class and I can't wait to get to that chapter.

[00:05:35] [SPEAKER_01]: And people don't know how important the maps are to the world and the understanding of Tolkien's works.

[00:05:42] [SPEAKER_01]: Once I got that, even from the hobbit just looking at the map and being like, oh, wow, this is everything connects.

[00:05:50] [SPEAKER_01]: The beginning of understanding, truly understanding the world is the map.

[00:05:55] [SPEAKER_01]: Always read along with the map, pay attention to the maps and you'll get things much sooner, much clearer

[00:06:00] [SPEAKER_01]: and you'll get a firmer grasp on the rain.

[00:06:03] [SPEAKER_00]: Right, right.

[00:06:05] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Tolkien was super into the maps, you know, his son would draw him for him and all that.

[00:06:09] [SPEAKER_00]: I've been going through his letters on our Patreon feed and that's been a lot of fun to see sort of how he loved

[00:06:15] [SPEAKER_00]: to lay out the different battles, whatnot.

[00:06:18] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:06:19] [SPEAKER_00]: But this chapter to me, for me, when I first started reading the Silmarillion, I was, I got here and I went,

[00:06:25] [SPEAKER_00]: I barely have a handle on what the character names are.

[00:06:29] [SPEAKER_00]: Barely.

[00:06:31] [SPEAKER_00]: And now you're going to throw all this geography at me, which by the way, I've always been terrible at geography.

[00:06:36] [SPEAKER_00]: My dad used to call me Magellan as a kid as a joke because I was always so bad at directions.

[00:06:41] [SPEAKER_00]: And so I get to this chapter and I'm like, I don't know if I can get through this.

[00:06:44] [SPEAKER_00]: And luckily, you know, I had other podcasts at the time, you know, Prancing Pony was going already

[00:06:48] [SPEAKER_00]: and I had other things to lead me through, Visual Guides Online.

[00:06:52] [SPEAKER_00]: And but once once you get through it, you read back and you're like, there's some good details in here.

[00:06:58] [SPEAKER_00]: And so I'm glad you came in for this because again, this is probably to me, I don't know

[00:07:02] [SPEAKER_00]: if you've had the same experience, but when I talk to people about the Silmarillion, this is the infamous chapter.

[00:07:07] [SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.

[00:07:08] [SPEAKER_00]: People say I don't know what to do with this chapter.

[00:07:11] [SPEAKER_01]: Every person I talk to they're like, that damn up blaring in his rooms.

[00:07:15] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, I'm like, no, I guess that's it.

[00:07:18] [SPEAKER_01]: Like I get it.

[00:07:19] [SPEAKER_01]: Right.

[00:07:20] [SPEAKER_01]: Like I said, I tend to find that people have which if I'm being honest, my initial couple of chapters

[00:07:27] [SPEAKER_01]: in the Silmarillion, I had so much trouble getting through initially.

[00:07:31] [SPEAKER_01]: And it was it was about maybe my fifth time.

[00:07:33] [SPEAKER_01]: I was like, all right, I got to get through this man.

[00:07:35] [SPEAKER_01]: This is I got to do this.

[00:07:36] [SPEAKER_01]: I love this too much.

[00:07:37] [SPEAKER_01]: And then I just clicked.

[00:07:39] [SPEAKER_01]: It was something clicked and then I don't know exactly what made it just click.

[00:07:43] [SPEAKER_01]: But I got it.

[00:07:44] [SPEAKER_01]: And then from there, it was a cakewalk.

[00:07:46] [SPEAKER_01]: And then when I reread it again, I'm like, oh, I see now it's just the bombardment of names

[00:07:51] [SPEAKER_01]: and things like that.

[00:07:52] [SPEAKER_01]: You don't know what's going on.

[00:07:54] [SPEAKER_01]: And then once you get it, you're like, okay, I see what's going on.

[00:07:57] [SPEAKER_01]: Same thing with Valerian in his realms, but I got actually got that much sooner.

[00:08:02] [SPEAKER_01]: And my mind just kind of like compartmentalizes where things are to where the the elven houses

[00:08:10] [SPEAKER_01]: are or the Dwarven kingdoms and it all comes together.

[00:08:14] [SPEAKER_01]: And so, you know, the names are immense and you know, the names are there are a

[00:08:18] [SPEAKER_01]: lot of different names.

[00:08:18] [SPEAKER_01]: But, you know, for the most part, you can just take the major names of things like

[00:08:24] [SPEAKER_01]: and suddenly get the understanding.

[00:08:26] [SPEAKER_01]: And once you know the main places like Hithmoom and and Falglyph and you know,

[00:08:31] [SPEAKER_01]: saying Dorthonian and Doriath and you know, you get these places, Laughland and and

[00:08:37] [SPEAKER_01]: you get, you know, Ossirian and places like that.

[00:08:42] [SPEAKER_01]: And when our God is and you know, Mount terrace in West, you kind of know, okay,

[00:08:49] [SPEAKER_01]: I know what this is in relation to what group of elves.

[00:08:52] [SPEAKER_01]: Okay.

[00:08:53] [SPEAKER_01]: And then you can get into the smaller things like learning the rivers that aren't

[00:08:57] [SPEAKER_01]: the major two rivers like Syrian and Gellion.

[00:08:59] [SPEAKER_01]: You can learn about, you know, Ravaskar and you know, Adirant and, you know,

[00:09:05] [SPEAKER_01]: all of those different type of rivers and Nenning and all those different

[00:09:10] [SPEAKER_01]: type of things you can get them much more clearly because you've got

[00:09:14] [SPEAKER_01]: to grasp on the wider scope of the realm.

[00:09:17] [SPEAKER_00]: Well, I'm really glad you're here for that because I am not the river expert.

[00:09:21] [SPEAKER_00]: I love the character drama.

[00:09:24] [SPEAKER_00]: I'll read through this chapter just to do it, but this is certainly not one

[00:09:28] [SPEAKER_00]: I would be like, I'd like to read some Tolkien tonight.

[00:09:31] [SPEAKER_00]: What should I turn to a Beleriand and its realms?

[00:09:35] [SPEAKER_00]: So we're here, we're in Beleriand.

[00:09:37] [SPEAKER_00]: We've just had the third battle.

[00:09:39] [SPEAKER_00]: Yes.

[00:09:39] [SPEAKER_00]: And we were just kind of taking stock of where everything is.

[00:09:43] [SPEAKER_00]: This is sort of the calm before the storm because I was trying to tell my

[00:09:47] [SPEAKER_00]: wife today about, you know, I'm going to go talk to the chapter.

[00:09:49] [SPEAKER_00]: I can't believe new bed had picked this chapter because again, you know,

[00:09:53] [SPEAKER_00]: we don't have to re-hash that whole thing.

[00:09:55] [SPEAKER_00]: But I said every other chapter after this is kind of a banger, right?

[00:09:59] [SPEAKER_00]: Like it's all action from here.

[00:10:00] [SPEAKER_01]: Thanks yo, bangers exactly.

[00:10:03] [SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't stop.

[00:10:05] [SPEAKER_00]: And and so we're it's the calm before the storm.

[00:10:08] [SPEAKER_00]: We have this description right up front of a Tomno of of

[00:10:13] [SPEAKER_00]: the Angaradrim of all this domain of Melkor that, you know,

[00:10:18] [SPEAKER_00]: Melkor is besieged now.

[00:10:20] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, his influence is very limited largely because he's trying to

[00:10:24] [SPEAKER_00]: figure out what the hell do I do now that the sun is here.

[00:10:26] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:10:26] [SPEAKER_00]: And it's it's really cool to see that there are these whole

[00:10:31] [SPEAKER_00]: communities to pop up there like it's kind of like when people

[00:10:34] [SPEAKER_00]: decide to live on like the edge of the coast, right?

[00:10:37] [SPEAKER_00]: Like, oh well, yeah, sure.

[00:10:38] [SPEAKER_00]: This might have rote eventually, but we'll live here for now.

[00:10:42] [SPEAKER_00]: What's your what's your take on a Tomno in this whole region of

[00:10:46] [SPEAKER_00]: this round in region and hip flim and whatnot.

[00:10:47] [SPEAKER_01]: So if I was the if I was to explain it to someone and I would

[00:10:50] [SPEAKER_01]: say, hey, this is how you get an understanding or grasp where

[00:10:53] [SPEAKER_01]: a Tomno is in relation to Angban and the rest of Beleriand

[00:10:58] [SPEAKER_01]: will use.

[00:11:00] [SPEAKER_01]: So when you go into the chapter and let you know in the far

[00:11:03] [SPEAKER_01]: north there was a Tomno we know at this time from the

[00:11:06] [SPEAKER_01]: readings earlier a Tomno is destroyed so we don't have

[00:11:09] [SPEAKER_01]: to worry about it, but we know it was further in the north.

[00:11:11] [SPEAKER_01]: And then we think about this vast wasteland in the north that

[00:11:15] [SPEAKER_01]: we don't have to worry about.

[00:11:16] [SPEAKER_01]: There's nothing there and we know as a fence it tells you as

[00:11:20] [SPEAKER_01]: a fence to the great north where a Tomno used to be he reared

[00:11:24] [SPEAKER_01]: the Arab era England the Iron Mountains.

[00:11:27] [SPEAKER_01]: So we use that as a guiding line across the top.

[00:11:31] [SPEAKER_01]: A group of mountains that go across the top the Iron

[00:11:34] [SPEAKER_01]: Mountains and basically like right in just like just south of

[00:11:39] [SPEAKER_01]: those mountains is Angban.

[00:11:42] [SPEAKER_01]: So we know he made Angban previously and Sauron ruled

[00:11:46] [SPEAKER_01]: Angban and it was a guard against any assault that came from

[00:11:51] [SPEAKER_01]: the West by the Valar it ended up being destroyed along

[00:11:55] [SPEAKER_01]: with a Tomno but not wholly destroyed.

[00:11:57] [SPEAKER_01]: So when he came back after his you know his imprisonment

[00:12:01] [SPEAKER_01]: in Valor and he fled to Middle Earth after stealing the

[00:12:04] [SPEAKER_01]: Silmarils and slaying Fenway.

[00:12:06] [SPEAKER_01]: He came and rebuilt Angban.

[00:12:08] [SPEAKER_01]: There was a remnant there.

[00:12:10] [SPEAKER_01]: The Balrogs had woken up and then he draw all evil things

[00:12:12] [SPEAKER_01]: to him.

[00:12:13] [SPEAKER_01]: He began you know having orcs come to him and breeding

[00:12:17] [SPEAKER_01]: more and more orcs Sauron came back all these things.

[00:12:20] [SPEAKER_01]: So that is and he built up the three mountainous peaks

[00:12:24] [SPEAKER_01]: of the Thrangarraudrum out of the ash in a slag of the

[00:12:28] [SPEAKER_01]: Iron Mountains and so he built this and right

[00:12:31] [SPEAKER_01]: there right and right where that fences the mountains.

[00:12:35] [SPEAKER_01]: He built Angban.

[00:12:36] [SPEAKER_01]: So we know at very top of the world we're not going past

[00:12:39] [SPEAKER_01]: that we're not going into the far north where those mountains

[00:12:42] [SPEAKER_01]: are and you can look on the map that is where Angban is

[00:12:45] [SPEAKER_01]: going to be and you can't even really see it on the map

[00:12:48] [SPEAKER_01]: that they have they actually cut it off under iron phallus

[00:12:51] [SPEAKER_01]: right above and phallus but that's where it is right

[00:12:54] [SPEAKER_01]: where that cutoff is is with the Iron Mountains is.

[00:12:57] [SPEAKER_01]: So that's how I would explain that's what more God

[00:13:00] [SPEAKER_01]: stronghold is these giant peaks of the Thangarraudrum or

[00:13:05] [SPEAKER_01]: three mountainous peaks that are also towers that like

[00:13:08] [SPEAKER_01]: literally surround Angban and protect it like from any invasion

[00:13:13] [SPEAKER_01]: so you can't get in the Angban and everything behind

[00:13:16] [SPEAKER_01]: in that is protected by the mountains.

[00:13:18] [SPEAKER_01]: So it tells you that in another chapter they can't get

[00:13:21] [SPEAKER_01]: in Angban they can't get behind Angban so they just

[00:13:24] [SPEAKER_01]: besiege it so he can't come out.

[00:13:27] [SPEAKER_01]: We know that the elves when they arise the next thing we know

[00:13:31] [SPEAKER_01]: is that the elves when they arise they first they come

[00:13:35] [SPEAKER_01]: through the first of Dringwist Dringist and then they have

[00:13:38] [SPEAKER_01]: the shadowy mountains of Erdwethrin that literally make

[00:13:41] [SPEAKER_01]: up where Hifflum is so it does like a little L that comes

[00:13:45] [SPEAKER_01]: down like a backwards L and that those mountains and there's

[00:13:48] [SPEAKER_01]: a great land there it's milder and colder there but

[00:13:52] [SPEAKER_01]: you know great grasslands and stuff like that and that

[00:13:54] [SPEAKER_01]: is where the Noldor first settle at not first settled but

[00:13:58] [SPEAKER_01]: like our first have their encampment around Lake Mithrim

[00:14:02] [SPEAKER_01]: and so we have Phaenus people who come there first and then

[00:14:05] [SPEAKER_01]: when Fungolfin's force comes over after they cross the

[00:14:09] [SPEAKER_01]: Helcoraxa they come and they settle on the opposite side

[00:14:11] [SPEAKER_01]: of the lake and then eventually you know to prevent

[00:14:15] [SPEAKER_01]: you know more problems the seven sons and their people

[00:14:19] [SPEAKER_01]: Phaenus people they go to Eastern Balarian.

[00:14:23] [SPEAKER_01]: So we know the stronghold of the elves the Noldor elves is

[00:14:26] [SPEAKER_01]: going to be in Hifflum Hifflum is just below the left side

[00:14:31] [SPEAKER_01]: of the iron anger in the West and there's fenced by the

[00:14:35] [SPEAKER_01]: shadowy mountains that come down like a backwards L so

[00:14:38] [SPEAKER_01]: it's like it's like cut off there and it has and it goes

[00:14:41] [SPEAKER_01]: all the way to the Western Sea and so it talks about

[00:14:44] [SPEAKER_01]: that so Hifflum the Noldor elves the ruling house

[00:14:47] [SPEAKER_01]: Fungolfin and his son Fengon rule over that boom

[00:14:51] [SPEAKER_01]: right there on the western most part of Western the

[00:14:55] [SPEAKER_01]: Northwest of Middle Earth boom if they were to travel

[00:14:59] [SPEAKER_01]: right directly straight across East below the iron

[00:15:02] [SPEAKER_01]: engrom we have the Iron Mountains we are in anger.

[00:15:05] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm sorry we have boom a giant field a giant field a

[00:15:10] [SPEAKER_01]: giant plane very simple very easy to understand we have

[00:15:15] [SPEAKER_01]: the odd gallon which eventually becomes angphaglif.

[00:15:19] [SPEAKER_01]: Okay you know I'm saying so it's a grassland that is

[00:15:23] [SPEAKER_01]: actually right below where Angban is so it even says

[00:15:26] [SPEAKER_01]: that even back in the day you know even though it was

[00:15:29] [SPEAKER_01]: desolate and bare it we used to great things used to

[00:15:32] [SPEAKER_01]: grow there because it was a giant grass field and

[00:15:36] [SPEAKER_01]: plane that covers most of the northern part of of

[00:15:40] [SPEAKER_01]: that area of Bilarian which actually technically

[00:15:42] [SPEAKER_01]: Bilarian this is south but they call the whole area

[00:15:45] [SPEAKER_00]: Bilarian this right right there's a line in there

[00:15:48] [SPEAKER_00]: where they say well a lot of people you know they said

[00:15:50] [SPEAKER_00]: that's part of Bilarian the same way you know you

[00:15:54] [SPEAKER_00]: know regions of the United States right you'll be

[00:15:56] [SPEAKER_00]: like oh that's kind of part of this that's kind of

[00:15:58] [SPEAKER_00]: part of the Midwest and it's not but so one question

[00:16:03] [SPEAKER_00]: I have for you on a plot point is there's a whole

[00:16:06] [SPEAKER_00]: point here where Tolkien writes the war in the war

[00:16:10] [SPEAKER_00]: of the powers of the Valar in their haste to overthrow

[00:16:13] [SPEAKER_00]: him from his stronghold of Atomno did not wholly

[00:16:16] [SPEAKER_00]: destroy a man or search out its deep places I've been

[00:16:20] [SPEAKER_00]: making this case against Manway you know the trial

[00:16:23] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm putting man way on trial this this whole season of

[00:16:25] [SPEAKER_00]: summer which brother what's going on here why aren't

[00:16:28] [SPEAKER_00]: that you know they have three ages they put him into

[00:16:31] [SPEAKER_00]: prison and and in all that time nobody said hey

[00:16:34] [SPEAKER_00]: maybe we should go check his you know searches

[00:16:38] [SPEAKER_01]: lodgings he's very short sighted and naive

[00:16:41] [SPEAKER_01]: man ways and it was a mistake honestly to me

[00:16:44] [SPEAKER_01]: for a arrow to put him in charge and I think they

[00:16:49] [SPEAKER_01]: would have been better off with somebody like oh

[00:16:50] [SPEAKER_01]: Moe being in charge even or may not talk is because

[00:16:54] [SPEAKER_01]: he doesn't have the mind for those type of things

[00:16:56] [SPEAKER_01]: he's just a kind of a brute right and just wants

[00:16:59] [SPEAKER_01]: to like you know fight but I think somebody like

[00:17:00] [SPEAKER_01]: or may or almost in particular would have been

[00:17:03] [SPEAKER_01]: a better choice he's concerned he's like yo

[00:17:05] [SPEAKER_01]: where's my core like yo I don't know we shouldn't

[00:17:07] [SPEAKER_01]: let him out he's now he's a bad guy so he

[00:17:10] [SPEAKER_01]: would have he would have searched the ways

[00:17:11] [SPEAKER_01]: they have to listen to man way their Lord

[00:17:13] [SPEAKER_01]: and I think they eat it was oversight and they

[00:17:15] [SPEAKER_01]: say oh we got we got the big guy we got more

[00:17:18] [SPEAKER_01]: God everything else to kind of fall into place

[00:17:20] [SPEAKER_01]: and they overlooked that more got that corrupted

[00:17:22] [SPEAKER_01]: these beings these fire my our turned them into

[00:17:26] [SPEAKER_01]: Balrogs and they were going to just be waiting

[00:17:30] [SPEAKER_01]: for their Lord and Sauron fully corrupted

[00:17:33] [SPEAKER_01]: they waited and they still did things and they

[00:17:36] [SPEAKER_01]: pulled strings while Melkor was away.

[00:17:39] [SPEAKER_01]: So it was a huge oversight.

[00:17:41] [SPEAKER_01]: I think man way is a terrible king of the note of

[00:17:44] [SPEAKER_01]: of the of Middle Earth of the of Arda.

[00:17:48] [SPEAKER_01]: I think he's off.

[00:17:50] [SPEAKER_01]: He does not do a lot of good moves and the other

[00:17:54] [SPEAKER_01]: Valor kind of pick up his slack all the time.

[00:17:55] [SPEAKER_01]: So I'm right there with him.

[00:17:57] [SPEAKER_00]: Well, welcome to the resistance against Manway.

[00:17:59] [SPEAKER_00]: I appreciate you being here.

[00:18:01] [SPEAKER_00]: The other aspect of this is you know we this

[00:18:05] [SPEAKER_00]: old podcast started as a rings of power podcast

[00:18:07] [SPEAKER_00]: before we branch out into other stuff.

[00:18:09] [SPEAKER_00]: But we have this whole thing where Galadriel

[00:18:13] [SPEAKER_00]: searching in the beginning brings power all in

[00:18:15] [SPEAKER_00]: the north because all of this was happening in

[00:18:18] [SPEAKER_00]: the north right and band a tum no thank

[00:18:20] [SPEAKER_00]: Garaadrim all in the north and she's completely

[00:18:22] [SPEAKER_00]: missing that it's possible that evil is stirring

[00:18:26] [SPEAKER_00]: in the south.

[00:18:27] [SPEAKER_00]: It's it's really fascinating to see how even

[00:18:31] [SPEAKER_00]: these events of the first age continue to

[00:18:33] [SPEAKER_00]: have a hold on the peoples of Middle Earth

[00:18:36] [SPEAKER_00]: particularly the elves later on.

[00:18:39] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I love how they relate the things you know

[00:18:46] [SPEAKER_01]: together she's looking they're looking in the

[00:18:47] [SPEAKER_01]: north and and they're always worried about it

[00:18:49] [SPEAKER_01]: and they always kind of miss out on where evil

[00:18:53] [SPEAKER_01]: has wiggled or where it's where it's popping up

[00:18:57] [SPEAKER_01]: next and it's it's more God's ring.

[00:19:00] [SPEAKER_01]: So more God's ring is all the things that

[00:19:03] [SPEAKER_01]: he you know put his power into or you know

[00:19:05] [SPEAKER_01]: it says all evil things were left to his charge.

[00:19:09] [SPEAKER_01]: They carry on in the world more God doesn't need

[00:19:11] [SPEAKER_01]: to be there and they still persist.

[00:19:13] [SPEAKER_01]: So that's the power of more God people always

[00:19:15] [SPEAKER_01]: are talking about.

[00:19:17] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh well more God is so powerful wise talk is able

[00:19:20] [SPEAKER_01]: to beat him.

[00:19:20] [SPEAKER_01]: Why is he that's not his his power is placing

[00:19:23] [SPEAKER_01]: his power in other things and they persist

[00:19:25] [SPEAKER_01]: until they still persist.

[00:19:28] [SPEAKER_01]: So he absolutely is the most powerful is this

[00:19:30] [SPEAKER_01]: his power is spread out in different ways.

[00:19:32] [SPEAKER_01]: So you know that's an example of that.

[00:19:34] [SPEAKER_00]: All right the same way that Sauron was very

[00:19:37] [SPEAKER_00]: powerful but you take away his ring that his

[00:19:39] [SPEAKER_00]: power was poured into now he's weak.

[00:19:42] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah he's weaker physically and and you know

[00:19:46] [SPEAKER_01]: he has his sorcery and things like that but

[00:19:47] [SPEAKER_01]: it's what he is his it's his will that's

[00:19:50] [SPEAKER_01]: still crazy in his his things and influences

[00:19:53] [SPEAKER_01]: that's his strength.

[00:19:56] [SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely so you mentioned Hithlam in the

[00:19:58] [SPEAKER_00]: geography of that there's this whole bit

[00:20:01] [SPEAKER_00]: here too again there's these little lore drops

[00:20:04] [SPEAKER_00]: within the geography like of those horses many

[00:20:08] [SPEAKER_00]: of the sires came from Valinor and they were

[00:20:10] [SPEAKER_00]: given to Fingolfin by Majros as a toman.

[00:20:13] [SPEAKER_00]: Are these are you aware of direct link between

[00:20:18] [SPEAKER_00]: these and the leader you know Shadowfax the

[00:20:20] [SPEAKER_00]: whole line of horses in Rohan.

[00:20:22] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah so I personally think and you know we

[00:20:26] [SPEAKER_01]: talked about this extensively that these are

[00:20:29] [SPEAKER_01]: the matters that come from Valinor and you

[00:20:32] [SPEAKER_01]: know you know these are horses that are gifted

[00:20:34] [SPEAKER_01]: you know remember Kelloggorm and Orrimey are

[00:20:37] [SPEAKER_01]: very close and you know the elves at the time

[00:20:41] [SPEAKER_01]: that lived in Valinor they lived amongst the

[00:20:43] [SPEAKER_01]: the Maeyar and the Valar and they you know

[00:20:45] [SPEAKER_01]: with them and they learned from them and

[00:20:48] [SPEAKER_01]: they were gifted these horses that are like

[00:20:51] [SPEAKER_01]: godlike horses same way Huan is a godlike

[00:20:54] [SPEAKER_01]: hound the same way that you know we got

[00:20:57] [SPEAKER_01]: Thorndor who was the birds of heaven or the

[00:20:59] [SPEAKER_01]: eagles they're not regular and they're better

[00:21:02] [SPEAKER_01]: and they're special and so they're gifted

[00:21:04] [SPEAKER_01]: these things just like Huan was gifted to

[00:21:06] [SPEAKER_01]: Kelloggorm we have these horses being gifted

[00:21:08] [SPEAKER_01]: to the elves and now the elves being like

[00:21:12] [SPEAKER_01]: they listen for our betrayal this is one of

[00:21:14] [SPEAKER_01]: the things I want to make a basis and give

[00:21:17] [SPEAKER_01]: you these horses and now these horses end up

[00:21:19] [SPEAKER_01]: in the hands of Fingolfin and now they're

[00:21:22] [SPEAKER_01]: on the plane and so on and so forth and

[00:21:25] [SPEAKER_01]: when we have the Edion come over you know

[00:21:27] [SPEAKER_01]: the extension and proxy of them to the Noldor

[00:21:32] [SPEAKER_01]: there in the Northwest they end up with some

[00:21:35] [SPEAKER_01]: of the horses and they travel over to

[00:21:37] [SPEAKER_01]: Middle Earth and that's how these horses get

[00:21:39] [SPEAKER_01]: over there and are into possession of some

[00:21:42] [SPEAKER_01]: of the people like the descendants of

[00:21:46] [SPEAKER_01]: you know same house of the people have had

[00:21:48] [SPEAKER_01]: or just you know pre they are it happened

[00:21:52] [SPEAKER_01]: wandered over the Blue Mountains they

[00:21:53] [SPEAKER_01]: haven't wandered over the Arab blue and they're

[00:21:55] [SPEAKER_01]: related the Roe heron the horse lords the

[00:21:59] [SPEAKER_01]: Aelthea so right it's like mind blowing the

[00:22:03] [SPEAKER_01]: connections that Tolkien makes. Absolutely

[00:22:06] [SPEAKER_00]: absolutely I really love that everything is

[00:22:09] [SPEAKER_00]: seated so early in Tolkien right I mean this

[00:22:11] [SPEAKER_00]: is something that you know we do a lot of

[00:22:13] [SPEAKER_00]: Star Wars we do a lot of House of the

[00:22:14] [SPEAKER_00]: Dragon that kind of stuff on this feed but

[00:22:17] [SPEAKER_00]: Tolkien really was the master and largely

[00:22:19] [SPEAKER_00]: because he was such a solo creator in

[00:22:23] [SPEAKER_00]: comparison to those other maybe more collaborative

[00:22:25] [SPEAKER_00]: fields he was so much of a solo creator he

[00:22:28] [SPEAKER_00]: was able to lay these lines early on

[00:22:31] [SPEAKER_01]: yeah I love these sprinkles to see right

[00:22:33] [SPEAKER_01]: right throughout the whole story but the thing

[00:22:35] [SPEAKER_00]: that greaves me the most is I think he really

[00:22:38] [SPEAKER_00]: wanted to seed more Galadriel hints

[00:22:40] [SPEAKER_00]: absolutely first and second agent and it's

[00:22:42] [SPEAKER_00]: unfortunate that he died when he did he couldn't

[00:22:44] [SPEAKER_01]: do that yeah he was trying to you know

[00:22:48] [SPEAKER_01]: retroactively fill in her lore and so

[00:22:50] [SPEAKER_01]: when you know when people are these low

[00:22:52] [SPEAKER_01]: experts like glad you didn't do this glad

[00:22:54] [SPEAKER_01]: it wasn't meant to do that it's like you

[00:22:55] [SPEAKER_01]: you haven't read what Tolkien intended for

[00:22:58] [SPEAKER_01]: glad you to be he is clear in his writing

[00:22:59] [SPEAKER_01]: this is what I want for her this is

[00:23:01] [SPEAKER_01]: what how I wanted her to be this is what

[00:23:03] [SPEAKER_01]: I wanted her to be doing it's just I

[00:23:05] [SPEAKER_01]: didn't get a chance to do that I had to

[00:23:06] [SPEAKER_01]: tell this complete story and I have time

[00:23:08] [SPEAKER_01]: to fill out this now this is I'm telling

[00:23:11] [SPEAKER_01]: you retroactively you know

[00:23:14] [SPEAKER_01]: canonically I wanted her to be as strong

[00:23:15] [SPEAKER_01]: as any other elf right you know if my

[00:23:18] [SPEAKER_01]: match for any of the other male no door

[00:23:20] [SPEAKER_01]: and they called her man made it and all

[00:23:23] [SPEAKER_01]: these different things and she's second

[00:23:25] [SPEAKER_01]: only to Feyenoar and strengthen and she

[00:23:27] [SPEAKER_01]: is Sauron's chief adversary which that

[00:23:29] [SPEAKER_01]: is something he did get to you know get

[00:23:31] [SPEAKER_01]: to get they get to put in but it you

[00:23:33] [SPEAKER_01]: have to make these connections you

[00:23:35] [SPEAKER_01]: can't just go off of oh it doesn't say

[00:23:37] [SPEAKER_01]: this like it does but you got to connect

[00:23:39] [SPEAKER_01]: the writings and that's where Christopher

[00:23:41] [SPEAKER_01]: does an excellent job especially in

[00:23:43] [SPEAKER_01]: unfinished tales he connected what his

[00:23:46] [SPEAKER_01]: father wanted with what was actually

[00:23:47] [SPEAKER_01]: written in and he's like okay these are

[00:23:49] [SPEAKER_01]: the things that my father written down

[00:23:51] [SPEAKER_01]: this is most closely what he wanted to

[00:23:53] [SPEAKER_01]: associate with the current writings that

[00:23:55] [SPEAKER_01]: you are familiar with and so you can call

[00:23:58] [SPEAKER_01]: it can and if you really want to

[00:24:00] [SPEAKER_00]: right now that's really cool and I

[00:24:02] [SPEAKER_00]: and I really love the way that Christopher

[00:24:04] [SPEAKER_00]: respected his father's work enough to

[00:24:06] [SPEAKER_00]: not you know go crazy editing and

[00:24:08] [SPEAKER_00]: adding and things like that right he

[00:24:10] [SPEAKER_00]: really did try to preserve it but

[00:24:11] [SPEAKER_00]: presented in a readable way yes that

[00:24:14] [SPEAKER_00]: is awesome yeah alright let's take a

[00:24:16] [SPEAKER_00]: quick break when we get back we'll talk

[00:24:18] [SPEAKER_00]: about all the other realms of the elves

[00:24:21] [SPEAKER_00]: let's do it

[00:24:41] [SPEAKER_00]: and we're back so next we have all

[00:24:45] [SPEAKER_00]: these other elves settling around and

[00:24:47] [SPEAKER_00]: this is where we really get into the

[00:24:49] [SPEAKER_00]: name soup this is where we're not sure

[00:24:52] [SPEAKER_00]: if we're talking about anti-depressants

[00:24:53] [SPEAKER_00]: or elves so let's let's go through it

[00:24:57] [SPEAKER_00]: you've got you've got a whole discussion

[00:25:00] [SPEAKER_00]: on torgon then you've got fin rod

[00:25:02] [SPEAKER_00]: with naga throne I'm trying to pick

[00:25:03] [SPEAKER_00]: out like the major major ones because

[00:25:05] [SPEAKER_00]: we could talk about this all day of

[00:25:07] [SPEAKER_00]: all the details that are in there but

[00:25:08] [SPEAKER_00]: the whole point of this podcast is to

[00:25:10] [SPEAKER_00]: make this digestible and you can go

[00:25:11] [SPEAKER_00]: back later and pick out the little

[00:25:12] [SPEAKER_00]: details yeah we have mention of cure

[00:25:15] [SPEAKER_00]: down which is going to be really

[00:25:16] [SPEAKER_00]: important in rings rings of our

[00:25:18] [SPEAKER_00]: season two and then we have a non

[00:25:23] [SPEAKER_00]: doon gore that man I can't pronounce

[00:25:26] [SPEAKER_00]: that one non good thought that okay

[00:25:29] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not even gonna try and then go

[00:25:30] [SPEAKER_00]: said man didn't gore that thank you

[00:25:33] [SPEAKER_00]: thank you the valley of dreadful death

[00:25:37] [SPEAKER_00]: right right I think those are probably

[00:25:38] [SPEAKER_00]: I mean there's mention of Doria but

[00:25:40] [SPEAKER_00]: we've already Doria to death by the

[00:25:42] [SPEAKER_00]: by this point so I feel like we can

[00:25:45] [SPEAKER_00]: we can mostly give lip service to

[00:25:46] [SPEAKER_00]: Doria what what's your you gave such

[00:25:49] [SPEAKER_00]: a good explanation of the north

[00:25:51] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm curious if you have an easy

[00:25:53] [SPEAKER_00]: guide to this section to the realms

[00:25:56] [SPEAKER_01]: of absolutely so if we go and we

[00:25:59] [SPEAKER_01]: talked about the north and we talked

[00:26:01] [SPEAKER_01]: about Angban and we talked about

[00:26:02] [SPEAKER_01]: our gallon aka ain't foul if the

[00:26:06] [SPEAKER_01]: gasping dust that is it turns into

[00:26:09] [SPEAKER_01]: a foul glyph so the name is originally

[00:26:12] [SPEAKER_01]: our gallon is a giant grassland

[00:26:14] [SPEAKER_01]: right in the middle of the map just

[00:26:16] [SPEAKER_01]: below Angban in the iron mountains

[00:26:19] [SPEAKER_01]: boom we have a giant grassland think

[00:26:21] [SPEAKER_01]: of it as a giant plane just below

[00:26:23] [SPEAKER_01]: that plane right smack dab in the

[00:26:25] [SPEAKER_01]: middle of the map we have Dorthonian

[00:26:27] [SPEAKER_01]: so we don't know what I mean is like

[00:26:30] [SPEAKER_01]: it's northern side of Dorthonian is

[00:26:32] [SPEAKER_01]: like a giant like hills that rise up

[00:26:35] [SPEAKER_01]: into piney moors and Dorthonian is

[00:26:39] [SPEAKER_01]: like a circular part in the middle

[00:26:41] [SPEAKER_01]: that you'll see and then there's

[00:26:43] [SPEAKER_01]: mountains on the bottom side and

[00:26:45] [SPEAKER_01]: there's mountains on the western

[00:26:46] [SPEAKER_01]: side there is a place on the western

[00:26:49] [SPEAKER_01]: side near the river Syrian that has

[00:26:53] [SPEAKER_01]: a ton of shit ton of mountains excuse

[00:26:56] [SPEAKER_01]: my life okay they have a ton of

[00:26:57] [SPEAKER_00]: listen we're rated explicit you do

[00:26:59] [SPEAKER_01]: whatever you want they have a mountains

[00:27:01] [SPEAKER_01]: that go in circle and they encircle

[00:27:03] [SPEAKER_01]: and a valley and that is where we'll

[00:27:07] [SPEAKER_01]: get into but that is where gondolin

[00:27:08] [SPEAKER_01]: is so if we move a little bit east

[00:27:10] [SPEAKER_01]: we have Dorthonian which is like

[00:27:13] [SPEAKER_01]: kind of like a highland and it is

[00:27:16] [SPEAKER_01]: just not the greatest terrain it has

[00:27:19] [SPEAKER_01]: pine forests and all kinds of like

[00:27:22] [SPEAKER_01]: different type of terrain that's

[00:27:24] [SPEAKER_01]: tough to get by but it's a place

[00:27:26] [SPEAKER_01]: that's right in the middle of the map

[00:27:28] [SPEAKER_01]: and then on its southern border we have

[00:27:31] [SPEAKER_01]: the mountains of the Eric Gorgorov

[00:27:34] [SPEAKER_01]: the mountains of terror and so

[00:27:36] [SPEAKER_01]: it these mountains drop off into

[00:27:38] [SPEAKER_01]: dreadful preps precipices what they

[00:27:40] [SPEAKER_01]: say and then it goes down and below

[00:27:43] [SPEAKER_01]: those mountains we that's where we

[00:27:45] [SPEAKER_01]: leave Dorthonian and we come into

[00:27:47] [SPEAKER_01]: a great valley now in this valley

[00:27:49] [SPEAKER_01]: the valley is called Dengothir and

[00:27:52] [SPEAKER_01]: that valley is just cut off from

[00:27:55] [SPEAKER_01]: everything but there's a small pass

[00:27:57] [SPEAKER_01]: through it now if we go below that

[00:27:59] [SPEAKER_01]: valley we run smack dab into Doriath

[00:28:03] [SPEAKER_01]: the northern most part of Doriath is

[00:28:05] [SPEAKER_01]: a forest a minor forest called

[00:28:09] [SPEAKER_01]: Neldereth so just think about this

[00:28:13] [SPEAKER_01]: between Doriath and between

[00:28:15] [SPEAKER_01]: the mountains of terror is a valley

[00:28:17] [SPEAKER_01]: and it's shadowy and it's dark and

[00:28:20] [SPEAKER_01]: spiders live there and monsters and

[00:28:23] [SPEAKER_01]: it is a terrible place just because

[00:28:26] [SPEAKER_01]: it has those evil mountains on its

[00:28:29] [SPEAKER_01]: northern border it has the on its

[00:28:32] [SPEAKER_01]: the southern border of the valley is

[00:28:35] [SPEAKER_01]: literally the

[00:28:38] [SPEAKER_01]: the girdle of Mellion protects

[00:28:40] [SPEAKER_01]: Doriath from everywhere so it's

[00:28:42] [SPEAKER_01]: cut or you can't go in there and

[00:28:44] [SPEAKER_01]: it's just like just you're trapped

[00:28:46] [SPEAKER_01]: in this terrible place that's dark

[00:28:48] [SPEAKER_01]: and gloomy and all these shadow

[00:28:50] [SPEAKER_01]: monsters and spiders and things are

[00:28:53] [SPEAKER_01]: there and that's why it's called the

[00:28:54] [SPEAKER_01]: valley of dreadful death

[00:28:55] [SPEAKER_01]: Ungoliant settled there and bred

[00:28:58] [SPEAKER_01]: with spiders that lived there and

[00:29:00] [SPEAKER_01]: this is where we get creatures like

[00:29:01] [SPEAKER_01]: Sheelaw Sheelaw is the last surviving

[00:29:04] [SPEAKER_01]: daughter of Ungoliant when she was

[00:29:06] [SPEAKER_01]: actually born and then Dengothir

[00:29:08] [SPEAKER_01]: the valley of dreadful death

[00:29:10] [SPEAKER_01]: so it is a there's a there's a passage

[00:29:12] [SPEAKER_01]: way to get from eastern

[00:29:15] [SPEAKER_01]: Bilarian to western Bilarian and vice

[00:29:17] [SPEAKER_01]: versa and you can go through there

[00:29:19] [SPEAKER_01]: pretty quickly it's just so dangerous

[00:29:21] [SPEAKER_01]: only like the most hardy elves do it

[00:29:23] [SPEAKER_01]: and they stay near the fence of

[00:29:25] [SPEAKER_01]: Doriath and do by doing it there's

[00:29:27] [SPEAKER_01]: a road that they travel but it's

[00:29:28] [SPEAKER_01]: very dangerous anybody else they

[00:29:31] [SPEAKER_01]: don't kind of really go through

[00:29:32] [SPEAKER_01]: there and especially north to south

[00:29:34] [SPEAKER_01]: because you're like going through

[00:29:36] [SPEAKER_01]: the thick of it the danger

[00:29:37] [SPEAKER_01]: these are examples of people that

[00:29:39] [SPEAKER_01]: have traveled through their successfully

[00:29:41] [SPEAKER_01]: you know traveling from east to west

[00:29:44] [SPEAKER_01]: going to the forest of breath

[00:29:45] [SPEAKER_01]: we have one of the group of the

[00:29:48] [SPEAKER_01]: adine the people of Lady Halladine

[00:29:49] [SPEAKER_01]: the Halladine they travel with

[00:29:51] [SPEAKER_01]: Hallad through there at Great loss

[00:29:52] [SPEAKER_01]: and they travel through there and they

[00:29:54] [SPEAKER_01]: stay near the fence of Doriath

[00:29:56] [SPEAKER_01]: and they're okay and they don't

[00:29:58] [SPEAKER_01]: experience what our next person that

[00:30:00] [SPEAKER_01]: goes through their experiences but

[00:30:02] [SPEAKER_01]: it was hell Baron travels from

[00:30:04] [SPEAKER_01]: north to south so he goes from

[00:30:06] [SPEAKER_01]: through the mountains of terror down

[00:30:08] [SPEAKER_01]: through the valley of dreadful death

[00:30:10] [SPEAKER_01]: to Doriath and it is said that

[00:30:12] [SPEAKER_01]: his journey was so terrible he would

[00:30:14] [SPEAKER_01]: never speak of it again and it like

[00:30:16] [SPEAKER_01]: meant him and made him gray and like

[00:30:17] [SPEAKER_01]: he was like traumatized it's

[00:30:20] [SPEAKER_01]: is as terrible was his southward

[00:30:22] [SPEAKER_01]: journey and it's one of the things

[00:30:23] [SPEAKER_01]: that resonates with me how

[00:30:26] [SPEAKER_01]: talking doesn't explain but by

[00:30:28] [SPEAKER_01]: that it explains he's like

[00:30:31] [SPEAKER_01]: right he's so traumatized he won't

[00:30:32] [SPEAKER_01]: even talk about it so just imagine

[00:30:34] [SPEAKER_01]: that valley and the most prolific

[00:30:37] [SPEAKER_01]: and dopest thing about

[00:30:39] [SPEAKER_01]: Nandan Gorthab is it's at a time

[00:30:42] [SPEAKER_01]: Sauron takes over Dorthonian

[00:30:44] [SPEAKER_01]: and it becomes Tarnu Fun

[00:30:46] [SPEAKER_01]: and he it is says the

[00:30:51] [SPEAKER_01]: the power of Sauron in the

[00:30:54] [SPEAKER_01]: the sorcery of Sauron in the power

[00:30:56] [SPEAKER_01]: of Mellion meet in Nandan Gorthab

[00:30:59] [SPEAKER_01]: and monsters and shadows

[00:31:01] [SPEAKER_01]: what monsters and horror walk there

[00:31:03] [SPEAKER_01]: and madness walk there is

[00:31:05] [SPEAKER_01]: it's awesome description

[00:31:06] [SPEAKER_01]: and it's like you just see the two

[00:31:08] [SPEAKER_01]: opposing forces like just

[00:31:10] [SPEAKER_01]: meeting right there and it's just

[00:31:11] [SPEAKER_01]: horrible like it's absolutely

[00:31:13] [SPEAKER_01]: dope so that part right there

[00:31:15] [SPEAKER_01]: easy peasy lemon squeezy

[00:31:17] [SPEAKER_01]: it's just Dorthonian is just a high

[00:31:21] [SPEAKER_01]: high pine foresty place

[00:31:24] [SPEAKER_01]: it even tells you

[00:31:27] [SPEAKER_01]: if Morgoth was to attack

[00:31:29] [SPEAKER_01]: most likely they don't think he would

[00:31:31] [SPEAKER_01]: attack and take that over as much

[00:31:33] [SPEAKER_01]: as he would other places because

[00:31:34] [SPEAKER_01]: the terrain is not easy to get by

[00:31:37] [SPEAKER_01]: it's not easy terrain to track

[00:31:38] [SPEAKER_01]: and go through and we like I said

[00:31:40] [SPEAKER_01]: it's precipices and it goes into a

[00:31:42] [SPEAKER_01]: valley it's not an easy thing

[00:31:43] [SPEAKER_01]: that's why there's passes on either

[00:31:46] [SPEAKER_01]: side of Dorthonian

[00:31:48] [SPEAKER_01]: there is called the western pass

[00:31:50] [SPEAKER_01]: which is on the western side of

[00:31:52] [SPEAKER_01]: the map and that is where the

[00:31:54] [SPEAKER_01]: river Syrian flows

[00:31:55] [SPEAKER_01]: okay it flows all the way in between

[00:31:59] [SPEAKER_01]: the erud wethrin those mountains

[00:32:01] [SPEAKER_01]: in between where Dori

[00:32:04] [SPEAKER_01]: Dorthonian is and its past it goes

[00:32:06] [SPEAKER_01]: all the way down into southern

[00:32:07] [SPEAKER_01]: Bilarian and then on the eastern

[00:32:09] [SPEAKER_01]: side we have the eastern pass

[00:32:11] [SPEAKER_01]: which will get into you know which

[00:32:13] [SPEAKER_01]: goes below him right and down to

[00:32:16] [SPEAKER_01]: eastern side of

[00:32:19] [SPEAKER_00]: Bilarian nice

[00:32:22] [SPEAKER_00]: so you've got all these

[00:32:24] [SPEAKER_00]: you know you've got this horrible

[00:32:25] [SPEAKER_00]: path you've got like you know

[00:32:26] [SPEAKER_00]: decent past I'm not so bad

[00:32:29] [SPEAKER_00]: and then you've got these

[00:32:31] [SPEAKER_00]: other realms run by

[00:32:33] [SPEAKER_00]: Turgon and thing and Finrod which

[00:32:35] [SPEAKER_00]: both of them of course got these

[00:32:37] [SPEAKER_00]: visions said hey buddies you got to

[00:32:39] [SPEAKER_00]: go find your own realms

[00:32:41] [SPEAKER_00]: and here we are here we're actually

[00:32:42] [SPEAKER_00]: talking about the realms and I

[00:32:44] [SPEAKER_00]: know we get more detail in the next

[00:32:45] [SPEAKER_00]: chapter actually I recorded these

[00:32:47] [SPEAKER_00]: two podcasts out of order because

[00:32:48] [SPEAKER_00]: of scheduling so I've already

[00:32:50] [SPEAKER_00]: recorded the podcast on the next

[00:32:51] [SPEAKER_00]: chapter but I like that we get

[00:32:53] [SPEAKER_00]: a little bit of a tease of it right

[00:32:55] [SPEAKER_00]: here so I want to get your take on

[00:32:57] [SPEAKER_00]: on these two realms too

[00:32:59] [SPEAKER_01]: Gondolin is my favorite place in the

[00:33:01] [SPEAKER_01]: entire legendary I absolutely love it

[00:33:04] [SPEAKER_01]: it is modeled after Tyrion the

[00:33:06] [SPEAKER_01]: Elven City in Valinor and it was in

[00:33:10] [SPEAKER_01]: that place just to the left of

[00:33:13] [SPEAKER_01]: Diorthonian where those encircling

[00:33:15] [SPEAKER_01]: mountains are and Tumladin is the

[00:33:18] [SPEAKER_01]: name of the the grassy plain

[00:33:20] [SPEAKER_01]: where we have Gondolin sit

[00:33:23] [SPEAKER_01]: and you know Turgon the wise

[00:33:27] [SPEAKER_01]: he founded at first his residence

[00:33:28] [SPEAKER_01]: was in Vinymar which is on the

[00:33:30] [SPEAKER_01]: westernmost coast of Middle

[00:33:31] [SPEAKER_01]: Earth just below Hifflin and a

[00:33:34] [SPEAKER_01]: place you know it's never asses

[00:33:36] [SPEAKER_01]: the entire place and there's a

[00:33:38] [SPEAKER_01]: group of mountains that encircle

[00:33:39] [SPEAKER_01]: that place it's like a triangle

[00:33:41] [SPEAKER_01]: group of mountains that's

[00:33:42] [SPEAKER_00]: yeah that place yeah I love I love

[00:33:44] [SPEAKER_00]: in in the next chapter you get the

[00:33:46] [SPEAKER_00]: description of him building

[00:33:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Gondolin and it's he's just like

[00:33:49] [SPEAKER_00]: everybody really quietly come over

[00:33:51] [SPEAKER_00]: here bring all the building

[00:33:52] [SPEAKER_00]: supplies like nobody nobody tell

[00:33:54] [SPEAKER_00]: anybody else just know just just

[00:33:55] [SPEAKER_00]: sneak over all the lumber and

[00:33:57] [SPEAKER_00]: everything just beyond the

[00:33:59] [SPEAKER_01]: River Serian there is a secret

[00:34:01] [SPEAKER_01]: way that he found with the help of

[00:34:02] [SPEAKER_01]: Olmo and it goes under the

[00:34:04] [SPEAKER_01]: mountains and up into Tumladin

[00:34:07] [SPEAKER_01]: and he builds Gondolin city of

[00:34:09] [SPEAKER_01]: seven names seven gates and it

[00:34:13] [SPEAKER_01]: takes years I think like 50

[00:34:14] [SPEAKER_01]: something years of our tic-tac

[00:34:16] [SPEAKER_01]: to build it and he slowly you

[00:34:19] [SPEAKER_01]: know brings his people and they

[00:34:21] [SPEAKER_01]: migrate over there silently and

[00:34:23] [SPEAKER_01]: secretly and then he shuts

[00:34:24] [SPEAKER_01]: himself in Gondolin and nobody

[00:34:26] [SPEAKER_01]: can leave yeah a threat of death

[00:34:29] [SPEAKER_01]: and nobody can enter and it's her

[00:34:31] [SPEAKER_00]: gone has tighter information

[00:34:32] [SPEAKER_00]: security than like the CIA nobody

[00:34:35] [SPEAKER_00]: nobody's going to get in second

[00:34:36] [SPEAKER_01]: son of thing golfing his his

[00:34:39] [SPEAKER_01]: presence always bothered more

[00:34:42] [SPEAKER_01]: got he always more got always

[00:34:43] [SPEAKER_01]: looked at him like ah from doom

[00:34:45] [SPEAKER_01]: someday something's going to come

[00:34:47] [SPEAKER_01]: from your house I don't like you

[00:34:49] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm kind of scared and then we have

[00:34:52] [SPEAKER_01]: the probably the I'd say the

[00:34:55] [SPEAKER_01]: the most beloved of all the

[00:34:57] [SPEAKER_01]: elves Finrod Felagand if you're

[00:34:59] [SPEAKER_01]: not familiar with Finrod I know

[00:35:01] [SPEAKER_01]: you are but Finrod is

[00:35:02] [SPEAKER_01]: Galadriel's eldest brother he

[00:35:04] [SPEAKER_01]: is the son of for Norfin

[00:35:06] [SPEAKER_01]: right is Magni-facet he is

[00:35:09] [SPEAKER_01]: great this house for Norfin

[00:35:12] [SPEAKER_01]: all have blonde hair he is

[00:35:14] [SPEAKER_01]: very powerful he's very wise

[00:35:16] [SPEAKER_01]: he's very kind and he's

[00:35:18] [SPEAKER_01]: beloved by all the races he's

[00:35:19] [SPEAKER_01]: one of the only elves that is

[00:35:21] [SPEAKER_01]: loved by the warps men

[00:35:23] [SPEAKER_01]: right he's loved by everyone

[00:35:26] [SPEAKER_01]: and he gets that same dream him

[00:35:28] [SPEAKER_01]: and Turgon were actually together

[00:35:30] [SPEAKER_01]: sleeping by river and and

[00:35:32] [SPEAKER_01]: almost comes up and puts

[00:35:33] [SPEAKER_01]: visions in their mind hey

[00:35:34] [SPEAKER_01]: you got to look for a place of

[00:35:36] [SPEAKER_01]: hidden strength and so unlike

[00:35:37] [SPEAKER_01]: Turgon who kind of keeps it to

[00:35:39] [SPEAKER_01]: itself and goes and finds it

[00:35:40] [SPEAKER_01]: himself he has a great

[00:35:43] [SPEAKER_01]: uncle named Fingal who is

[00:35:45] [SPEAKER_01]: the ruler of Doriath so he is

[00:35:47] [SPEAKER_01]: allowed to enter Doriath

[00:35:48] [SPEAKER_01]: because he is of that household

[00:35:51] [SPEAKER_00]: right yes they got a

[00:35:52] [SPEAKER_00]: they got to leave in the previous

[00:35:54] [SPEAKER_00]: chapters they they're like

[00:35:55] [SPEAKER_00]: alright leave I'm really mad

[00:35:57] [SPEAKER_00]: get out of my house and then

[00:35:58] [SPEAKER_01]: come back later you could come

[00:35:59] [SPEAKER_01]: back it's cool but I'm

[00:36:01] [SPEAKER_01]: mad at you right now

[00:36:02] [SPEAKER_01]: his grandfather and his

[00:36:05] [SPEAKER_01]: grandfather and Fingal are

[00:36:07] [SPEAKER_01]: brothers and so he has

[00:36:10] [SPEAKER_01]: leave to go there to visit

[00:36:11] [SPEAKER_01]: his uncle and he asks his

[00:36:13] [SPEAKER_01]: uncle like well you're the

[00:36:14] [SPEAKER_01]: Lord of Balarian because

[00:36:15] [SPEAKER_01]: Fingal rules over Balarian

[00:36:17] [SPEAKER_01]: and the other elves actually

[00:36:19] [SPEAKER_01]: kind of have to get permission

[00:36:21] [SPEAKER_01]: to live in Balarian door and

[00:36:23] [SPEAKER_01]: this right and so he's like

[00:36:25] [SPEAKER_01]: hey I had this vision

[00:36:27] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm looking for a place to hit

[00:36:28] [SPEAKER_01]: a string you kind of do you

[00:36:29] [SPEAKER_01]: know it anywhere and

[00:36:30] [SPEAKER_01]: think it was like yo there's

[00:36:31] [SPEAKER_01]: there's these caves that

[00:36:33] [SPEAKER_01]: are you know just beyond

[00:36:35] [SPEAKER_01]: the river Narragh like

[00:36:37] [SPEAKER_01]: and then a little and

[00:36:38] [SPEAKER_01]: and a little west from here

[00:36:40] [SPEAKER_01]: you know beyond

[00:36:45] [SPEAKER_01]: beyond breath

[00:36:46] [SPEAKER_01]: a little bit south you'll be

[00:36:47] [SPEAKER_01]: able to see what's up with

[00:36:49] [SPEAKER_00]: that and nephew I've got some

[00:36:51] [SPEAKER_00]: primo real estate for you primo

[00:36:53] [SPEAKER_01]: real estate was previously

[00:36:56] [SPEAKER_01]: the petty dwarves had delved

[00:36:58] [SPEAKER_01]: it out and finish our goals

[00:36:59] [SPEAKER_01]: and with the help of the

[00:37:02] [SPEAKER_01]: elves of Belagos the

[00:37:03] [SPEAKER_01]: Naurgrond he delves out

[00:37:06] [SPEAKER_01]: Naurgothron and because

[00:37:08] [SPEAKER_01]: he built this in these

[00:37:10] [SPEAKER_01]: caves and caverns they

[00:37:12] [SPEAKER_01]: call him fellow God

[00:37:13] [SPEAKER_01]: he were of caves and he

[00:37:15] [SPEAKER_01]: keeps that name ever after

[00:37:17] [SPEAKER_01]: and he's beloved and

[00:37:20] [SPEAKER_01]: you know he pays the dwarves

[00:37:21] [SPEAKER_01]: very richly for their services

[00:37:23] [SPEAKER_01]: with gems that he brought

[00:37:24] [SPEAKER_01]: over from Balarnau and they

[00:37:26] [SPEAKER_01]: they love him and they

[00:37:27] [SPEAKER_01]: build him a great necklace

[00:37:29] [SPEAKER_01]: known as the now glumir is

[00:37:30] [SPEAKER_01]: the greatest work of the

[00:37:31] [SPEAKER_01]: dwarves in the history of

[00:37:33] [SPEAKER_01]: the dwarves the now

[00:37:34] [SPEAKER_01]: glumir and the name

[00:37:36] [SPEAKER_01]: fellow God and he's

[00:37:37] [SPEAKER_01]: renowned and so he has

[00:37:38] [SPEAKER_01]: his place of hidden strength

[00:37:40] [SPEAKER_01]: it's a

[00:37:42] [SPEAKER_01]: it's so between the sea

[00:37:43] [SPEAKER_01]: and between Doriath

[00:37:45] [SPEAKER_01]: basically the whole realm of

[00:37:47] [SPEAKER_01]: Naurgothron but Naurgothron

[00:37:48] [SPEAKER_01]: itself

[00:37:50] [SPEAKER_01]: itself is

[00:37:51] [SPEAKER_01]: a hidden city

[00:37:53] [SPEAKER_01]: beyond the river Narragh

[00:37:55] [SPEAKER_01]: in these caverns

[00:37:56] [SPEAKER_01]: and there's no bridge

[00:37:56] [SPEAKER_01]: which is super important

[00:37:58] [SPEAKER_01]: which we know what happens

[00:37:59] [SPEAKER_01]: later but

[00:38:00] [SPEAKER_01]: so you can't get there

[00:38:02] [SPEAKER_01]: you can't find it

[00:38:02] [SPEAKER_01]: it's

[00:38:03] [SPEAKER_01]: it's very hidden

[00:38:05] [SPEAKER_01]: and there's a plane

[00:38:07] [SPEAKER_01]: past Narragh

[00:38:08] [SPEAKER_01]: that is guarded

[00:38:09] [SPEAKER_01]: it's a guarded plane

[00:38:11] [SPEAKER_01]: that the elves like secretly

[00:38:12] [SPEAKER_01]: hide and there's towels

[00:38:13] [SPEAKER_01]: that you don't see

[00:38:14] [SPEAKER_01]: and if you walk through there

[00:38:15] [SPEAKER_01]: without permission

[00:38:16] [SPEAKER_01]: you get shot

[00:38:17] [SPEAKER_01]: with arrows

[00:38:18] [SPEAKER_01]: and it's very well

[00:38:19] [SPEAKER_00]: great that HOA is really vigilant

[00:38:21] [SPEAKER_01]: yeah it's very vigilant there

[00:38:23] [SPEAKER_01]: so it is said

[00:38:25] [SPEAKER_01]: that actually Finrod

[00:38:27] [SPEAKER_01]: even though he is the

[00:38:28] [SPEAKER_01]: youngest of the princes of the elves

[00:38:31] [SPEAKER_01]: as the largest

[00:38:32] [SPEAKER_01]: land area

[00:38:33] [SPEAKER_01]: right

[00:38:34] [SPEAKER_01]: right so

[00:38:35] [SPEAKER_01]: yeah so he has the largest kingdom

[00:38:37] [SPEAKER_01]: by far

[00:38:38] [SPEAKER_01]: it's said

[00:38:39] [SPEAKER_01]: but he kind of doesn't even use it

[00:38:41] [SPEAKER_01]: because

[00:38:41] [SPEAKER_01]: like I said he just

[00:38:43] [SPEAKER_01]: Narraghathron the kingdom itself

[00:38:44] [SPEAKER_01]: that the actual

[00:38:46] [SPEAKER_01]: you know

[00:38:46] [SPEAKER_01]: power and thing is

[00:38:48] [SPEAKER_01]: it's hidden in those caverns

[00:38:50] [SPEAKER_01]: but his land area

[00:38:52] [SPEAKER_01]: that he owns is huge

[00:38:53] [SPEAKER_00]: yeah if we would have

[00:38:54] [SPEAKER_00]: he's just all around good guy right

[00:38:56] [SPEAKER_00]: he's just

[00:38:57] [SPEAKER_00]: everybody's loving him

[00:38:58] [SPEAKER_00]: even there's a detail earlier

[00:39:00] [SPEAKER_00]: in the chapter

[00:39:00] [SPEAKER_00]: he's got his own ministeria

[00:39:02] [SPEAKER_00]: he's got his own watch tower

[00:39:03] [SPEAKER_00]: yes

[00:39:04] [SPEAKER_00]: along the river

[00:39:05] [SPEAKER_00]: so that's

[00:39:05] [SPEAKER_00]: exactly

[00:39:07] [SPEAKER_01]: in the western past

[00:39:08] [SPEAKER_01]: he builds the tower to watch

[00:39:10] [SPEAKER_01]: the western past

[00:39:11] [SPEAKER_01]: because that would be the easiest way

[00:39:12] [SPEAKER_01]: to come into Belarion

[00:39:14] [SPEAKER_01]: if you were the enemy

[00:39:15] [SPEAKER_01]: you would just come down

[00:39:16] [SPEAKER_01]: from a gang band

[00:39:18] [SPEAKER_01]: and go down

[00:39:19] [SPEAKER_01]: and foul glyph

[00:39:21] [SPEAKER_01]: and go down the western past

[00:39:22] [SPEAKER_01]: right at the

[00:39:24] [SPEAKER_01]: it's called

[00:39:24] [SPEAKER_01]: the Fin of Sarac

[00:39:27] [SPEAKER_01]: and you go down

[00:39:28] [SPEAKER_01]: where Syrian is

[00:39:29] [SPEAKER_01]: and literally

[00:39:30] [SPEAKER_01]: you go right down the western past

[00:39:31] [SPEAKER_01]: follow the river

[00:39:32] [SPEAKER_01]: and you go right into Belarion

[00:39:33] [SPEAKER_01]: so in a place

[00:39:35] [SPEAKER_01]: where there is a lake there

[00:39:37] [SPEAKER_01]: the

[00:39:38] [SPEAKER_01]: he builds

[00:39:40] [SPEAKER_01]: absolutely a massive beautiful tower

[00:39:42] [SPEAKER_01]: and

[00:39:43] [SPEAKER_01]: it

[00:39:44] [SPEAKER_01]: it protects the western past

[00:39:46] [SPEAKER_01]: and we know what happens to it

[00:39:48] [SPEAKER_01]: but the tower is named

[00:39:49] [SPEAKER_01]: the

[00:39:49] [SPEAKER_01]: meanest

[00:39:50] [SPEAKER_01]: tear

[00:39:51] [SPEAKER_01]: the original meanest

[00:39:52] [SPEAKER_01]: tear tower

[00:39:52] [SPEAKER_01]: yeah

[00:39:53] [SPEAKER_01]: of guard

[00:39:55] [SPEAKER_00]: very nice

[00:39:56] [SPEAKER_00]: very nice

[00:39:57] [SPEAKER_00]: you know

[00:39:58] [SPEAKER_00]: Finrod

[00:39:59] [SPEAKER_00]: as you mentioned

[00:39:59] [SPEAKER_00]: is the youngest

[00:40:00] [SPEAKER_00]: and the one with the most land

[00:40:02] [SPEAKER_00]: and we know that the

[00:40:03] [SPEAKER_00]: Noldor

[00:40:04] [SPEAKER_00]: are

[00:40:05] [SPEAKER_00]: proud people

[00:40:06] [SPEAKER_00]: let's say

[00:40:06] [SPEAKER_00]: yeah

[00:40:06] [SPEAKER_00]: absolutely

[00:40:07] [SPEAKER_00]: they are

[00:40:07] [SPEAKER_00]: very into rank

[00:40:09] [SPEAKER_00]: they are very into hierarchy

[00:40:10] [SPEAKER_00]: they are very into

[00:40:12] [SPEAKER_00]: seniority

[00:40:14] [SPEAKER_00]: I would say

[00:40:15] [SPEAKER_00]: let's not

[00:40:16] [SPEAKER_00]: let's not go too deep into it now

[00:40:17] [SPEAKER_00]: but perhaps keep an eye on that

[00:40:19] [SPEAKER_00]: yeah

[00:40:19] [SPEAKER_00]: with the politics of

[00:40:20] [SPEAKER_00]: Nargothrond

[00:40:22] [SPEAKER_01]: yes yes yes

[00:40:24] [SPEAKER_01]: absolutely

[00:40:25] [SPEAKER_01]: yes

[00:40:25] [SPEAKER_01]: there's

[00:40:26] [SPEAKER_01]: there's some secret politics that's going on

[00:40:28] [SPEAKER_01]: and

[00:40:29] [SPEAKER_01]: with that

[00:40:30] [SPEAKER_01]: you know that's a good way to segue

[00:40:31] [SPEAKER_01]: into eastern Belarion

[00:40:32] [SPEAKER_01]: because the eldest house

[00:40:34] [SPEAKER_01]: of the

[00:40:35] [SPEAKER_01]: Noldorian elves

[00:40:36] [SPEAKER_01]: lives in eastern Belarion

[00:40:38] [SPEAKER_01]: those would be

[00:40:38] [SPEAKER_01]: the

[00:40:39] [SPEAKER_01]: Feanorians

[00:40:40] [SPEAKER_01]: the seven sons of Feanor

[00:40:42] [SPEAKER_01]: and if we move to

[00:40:44] [SPEAKER_01]: the eastern side

[00:40:45] [SPEAKER_01]: on the eastern side of Dorthonian

[00:40:47] [SPEAKER_01]: if we like

[00:40:48] [SPEAKER_01]: are

[00:40:49] [SPEAKER_01]: northeast

[00:40:50] [SPEAKER_01]: there is a place that is just kind of bearing open

[00:40:53] [SPEAKER_01]: it's called

[00:40:53] [SPEAKER_01]: lost land

[00:40:54] [SPEAKER_01]: there's nothing there to

[00:40:55] [SPEAKER_01]: tech

[00:40:55] [SPEAKER_01]: anything

[00:40:56] [SPEAKER_01]: and it's the easiest way

[00:40:57] [SPEAKER_01]: technically to get into Belarion all together

[00:41:00] [SPEAKER_01]: because there's no

[00:41:00] [SPEAKER_01]: there's no restraints there

[00:41:02] [SPEAKER_01]: but they settle there

[00:41:04] [SPEAKER_01]: and they're most

[00:41:05] [SPEAKER_01]: open to

[00:41:06] [SPEAKER_01]: the idea that hey

[00:41:08] [SPEAKER_01]: if we get attacked

[00:41:08] [SPEAKER_01]: we'll defend

[00:41:09] [SPEAKER_01]: we'll defend middle earth

[00:41:11] [SPEAKER_01]: you know I'm saying we'll defend Belarion

[00:41:12] [SPEAKER_01]: right

[00:41:13] [SPEAKER_01]: so

[00:41:13] [SPEAKER_01]: the seven sons settle there

[00:41:15] [SPEAKER_01]: from north to south

[00:41:16] [SPEAKER_01]: and

[00:41:16] [SPEAKER_01]: in their past lost land just south

[00:41:20] [SPEAKER_01]: next to Dorthonian

[00:41:21] [SPEAKER_01]: there is a group of

[00:41:22] [SPEAKER_01]: low lying hills

[00:41:23] [SPEAKER_01]: with one great hill

[00:41:24] [SPEAKER_01]: known as

[00:41:25] [SPEAKER_01]: Himbring

[00:41:25] [SPEAKER_01]: and

[00:41:26] [SPEAKER_01]: this is called

[00:41:27] [SPEAKER_01]: the March of

[00:41:28] [SPEAKER_01]: Mithros

[00:41:29] [SPEAKER_01]: Mithros is the eldest son of Feanor

[00:41:31] [SPEAKER_01]: and he is a monster

[00:41:33] [SPEAKER_01]: with his sword

[00:41:34] [SPEAKER_01]: he's one-handed

[00:41:35] [SPEAKER_01]: but he fights with the White Hot Fire

[00:41:37] [SPEAKER_01]: within him

[00:41:38] [SPEAKER_01]: and he is no joke

[00:41:39] [SPEAKER_01]: he is the eldest son

[00:41:41] [SPEAKER_01]: he is the

[00:41:41] [SPEAKER_01]: he

[00:41:42] [SPEAKER_01]: technically

[00:41:44] [SPEAKER_01]: would he was the air right

[00:41:45] [SPEAKER_01]: was the air

[00:41:46] [SPEAKER_01]: would have been the king

[00:41:47] [SPEAKER_01]: he gives up his kingship

[00:41:49] [SPEAKER_01]: which

[00:41:50] [SPEAKER_01]: technically

[00:41:51] [SPEAKER_01]: he always

[00:41:52] [SPEAKER_01]: Fingolfan always should have been the king

[00:41:54] [SPEAKER_01]: it goes to the eldest living

[00:41:56] [SPEAKER_01]: male of the house of

[00:41:58] [SPEAKER_01]: Fenway

[00:41:59] [SPEAKER_01]: so

[00:41:59] [SPEAKER_01]: he tells him that

[00:42:00] [SPEAKER_01]: when he gives up the kingship because Fano kind of just yapted

[00:42:03] [SPEAKER_01]: the kingship

[00:42:04] [SPEAKER_01]: he was supposed to take it

[00:42:05] [SPEAKER_01]: but

[00:42:05] [SPEAKER_01]: he guards there

[00:42:07] [SPEAKER_01]: just below

[00:42:08] [SPEAKER_01]: Himbring

[00:42:09] [SPEAKER_01]: there is a

[00:42:10] [SPEAKER_01]: pass

[00:42:11] [SPEAKER_01]: that goes from Himbring down into

[00:42:14] [SPEAKER_01]: Southern Beleriand

[00:42:16] [SPEAKER_01]: and that is guarded by his two brothers

[00:42:18] [SPEAKER_01]: the Pass of Aglon

[00:42:19] [SPEAKER_01]: is guarded by his two brothers

[00:42:21] [SPEAKER_01]: Kellagorman

[00:42:22] [SPEAKER_01]: Hurfan

[00:42:23] [SPEAKER_01]: and

[00:42:24] [SPEAKER_01]: Maglor

[00:42:25] [SPEAKER_01]: guards Maglor's Gap

[00:42:26] [SPEAKER_01]: that's on the other side

[00:42:27] [SPEAKER_01]: it's another way

[00:42:29] [SPEAKER_01]: in the Southern Beleriand

[00:42:30] [SPEAKER_01]: and so we know they lived there

[00:42:32] [SPEAKER_01]: and

[00:42:33] [SPEAKER_01]: there's a place called Himlad

[00:42:34] [SPEAKER_01]: that's where actually

[00:42:35] [SPEAKER_01]: cool

[00:42:36] [SPEAKER_01]: cool friend and Kellagorm

[00:42:37] [SPEAKER_01]: like guard in the Pass of Aglon is near there

[00:42:40] [SPEAKER_01]: and if we go lower than that

[00:42:42] [SPEAKER_01]: if we go to the right of that

[00:42:43] [SPEAKER_01]: actually if we go to

[00:42:44] [SPEAKER_01]: just the right of that

[00:42:45] [SPEAKER_01]: we'll see we're about to run into the Blue Mountains

[00:42:48] [SPEAKER_01]: we're about to run into the Blue Mountains

[00:42:50] [SPEAKER_01]: and that is the border

[00:42:51] [SPEAKER_01]: of

[00:42:52] [SPEAKER_01]: where Beleriand turns into

[00:42:53] [SPEAKER_01]: the Middle Earth proper

[00:42:55] [SPEAKER_01]: so

[00:42:56] [SPEAKER_01]: there is a great lake there

[00:42:59] [SPEAKER_01]: Lake Heleborn

[00:43:00] [SPEAKER_01]: and

[00:43:01] [SPEAKER_01]: this is where

[00:43:03] [SPEAKER_01]: Karen Thier

[00:43:04] [SPEAKER_01]: has his land just below Lake Heleborn

[00:43:06] [SPEAKER_01]: is a giant massive piece of land

[00:43:09] [SPEAKER_01]: who

[00:43:10] [SPEAKER_01]: is

[00:43:10] [SPEAKER_01]: is on the score Thar Gellion

[00:43:12] [SPEAKER_01]: and this is where Karen Thier rules

[00:43:14] [SPEAKER_01]: and he is so close to the

[00:43:16] [SPEAKER_01]: the mountains

[00:43:17] [SPEAKER_01]: he controls all the traffic that comes from those mountains

[00:43:20] [SPEAKER_01]: and he has the largest

[00:43:22] [SPEAKER_01]: landmass

[00:43:22] [SPEAKER_01]: out of the seven suns

[00:43:24] [SPEAKER_01]: and he

[00:43:25] [SPEAKER_01]: all of Thar Gellion is is known

[00:43:27] [SPEAKER_01]: as you know the land of Karen Thier

[00:43:29] [SPEAKER_01]: and he guards that

[00:43:30] [SPEAKER_01]: now Amrod and Amros the youngest brothers the twins

[00:43:34] [SPEAKER_01]: the last two

[00:43:35] [SPEAKER_01]: they live just south of that near

[00:43:38] [SPEAKER_01]: near to Estelad and below that

[00:43:40] [SPEAKER_01]: and they just live in the woods and they're like

[00:43:42] [SPEAKER_01]: hunters and they kind of like don't their land is not

[00:43:44] [SPEAKER_01]: it's not significant just above Osirian

[00:43:46] [SPEAKER_01]: in that land there

[00:43:47] [SPEAKER_01]: they kind of just kind of roam live there

[00:43:50] [SPEAKER_01]: so it's it's

[00:43:51] [SPEAKER_01]: that is their land

[00:43:52] [SPEAKER_01]: Eastern Balearion belongs to the seven sons of

[00:43:54] [SPEAKER_01]: Feanor and they're strong

[00:43:56] [SPEAKER_01]: and they protect it from

[00:43:58] [SPEAKER_01]: Morgoth's forces.

[00:44:00] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the the Sons of Feanor are nothing if not

[00:44:04] [SPEAKER_00]: militaristic

[00:44:05] [SPEAKER_01]: militaristic. Yes.

[00:44:06] [SPEAKER_01]: They keep great cavalry by by him ring and

[00:44:09] [SPEAKER_01]: in

[00:44:10] [SPEAKER_01]: in the path of the gap of Magalore and Magalore's gap

[00:44:14] [SPEAKER_01]: and they keep a good watch

[00:44:16] [SPEAKER_01]: right

[00:44:17] [SPEAKER_01]: on Angban so

[00:44:19] [SPEAKER_00]: now I know our time is short now you've

[00:44:21] [SPEAKER_00]: gone to the end of the chapter.

[00:44:23] [SPEAKER_00]: I just want to

[00:44:25] [SPEAKER_00]: go right back quick to the green elves

[00:44:27] [SPEAKER_00]: can we talk quick about them?

[00:44:29] [SPEAKER_01]: Yo, the green elves are awesome.

[00:44:32] [SPEAKER_01]: This is

[00:44:33] [SPEAKER_01]: these are like elves that you kind of think about more

[00:44:35] [SPEAKER_01]: properly. I feel like these are like the elves that

[00:44:37] [SPEAKER_01]: you're kind of used to seeing like oh they're wearing

[00:44:39] [SPEAKER_01]: green and they're nature elves and everything like that.

[00:44:42] [SPEAKER_01]: So they are

[00:44:44] [SPEAKER_01]: what's known as the Nando these are the same type

[00:44:47] [SPEAKER_01]: of elves. These are Tilleri elves that

[00:44:50] [SPEAKER_01]: Tilleri is the over head arching thing of the

[00:44:54] [SPEAKER_01]: sender elves. The sender elves are in

[00:44:58] [SPEAKER_01]: Doriath and the elves are Beleriand. They're a

[00:45:02] [SPEAKER_01]: offshoot of the Tilleri elves and the same group of

[00:45:05] [SPEAKER_01]: elves

[00:45:06] [SPEAKER_01]: did not cross the mountains and come into Beleriand.

[00:45:10] [SPEAKER_01]: They did not cross the Eridluan. They stayed

[00:45:12] [SPEAKER_01]: they actually didn't even cross the Misty Mountains.

[00:45:15] [SPEAKER_01]: They stayed on that side.

[00:45:17] [SPEAKER_01]: But one one remnant of them decided later, hey, let's

[00:45:21] [SPEAKER_01]: break off and go into Beleriand and go in there and

[00:45:25] [SPEAKER_01]: these elves settle in when they cross the Eridluan

[00:45:29] [SPEAKER_01]: the Blue Mountains. They go into Beleriand and

[00:45:31] [SPEAKER_01]: they settle in Osirian and they are welcomed by

[00:45:35] [SPEAKER_01]: Thingol as you know, Kim because they are

[00:45:37] [SPEAKER_01]: the same type of elves but culturally they have

[00:45:41] [SPEAKER_01]: devolved and begun to be different.

[00:45:43] [SPEAKER_00]: Right. They're late stage Eldar right? They're not

[00:45:46] [SPEAKER_00]: Avari at the very last second.

[00:45:48] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they're not Avari. They're Nandor. They are

[00:45:51] [SPEAKER_01]: very similar to I would say the elves of Merkwood

[00:45:54] [SPEAKER_01]: or the elves of Loflorean. This is just a contingent

[00:45:57] [SPEAKER_01]: of them that came over later than the sender elves.

[00:46:01] [SPEAKER_01]: Now, what's the differences between them and the

[00:46:02] [SPEAKER_01]: sender are? They are much more natureistic

[00:46:05] [SPEAKER_01]: and they are no more about birds and beasts

[00:46:07] [SPEAKER_01]: and trees and things like that than the sender.

[00:46:10] [SPEAKER_01]: The sender are kind of more because of the power

[00:46:12] [SPEAKER_01]: of Mellian and Thingol and they build and live

[00:46:15] [SPEAKER_01]: in caves and things like that where these are

[00:46:18] [SPEAKER_01]: elves are like nature living trees, living the

[00:46:21] [SPEAKER_01]: grasslands and they live over there.

[00:46:23] [SPEAKER_01]: And Osirian is the land of seven rivers because

[00:46:28] [SPEAKER_01]: the largest river in Beleriand is known as

[00:46:30] [SPEAKER_01]: Galean and that is on the eastern side of

[00:46:35] [SPEAKER_01]: Beleriand. The second largest river but the

[00:46:37] [SPEAKER_01]: most important river is the River Seryan and

[00:46:40] [SPEAKER_01]: that is runs on the western side. So Galean has

[00:46:43] [SPEAKER_01]: six tributaries that go off of its side. Now,

[00:46:46] [SPEAKER_01]: all the names escape me but we have Ascar, Adirand

[00:46:49] [SPEAKER_01]: and there's some other ones I can't remember

[00:46:51] [SPEAKER_01]: off the top of my head but they make up the

[00:46:54] [SPEAKER_01]: tributaries that run directly into the Eiridluin

[00:46:56] [SPEAKER_01]: and they actually come down from the Eiridluin

[00:46:58] [SPEAKER_01]: and fill Galean and keep it full and wide.

[00:47:02] [SPEAKER_01]: Now, that is where Osirian is and it is awesome.

[00:47:08] [SPEAKER_01]: There is an island between two of these rivers

[00:47:11] [SPEAKER_01]: between the river Adirand where there's a

[00:47:14] [SPEAKER_01]: break in the rivers and there's an island in the

[00:47:17] [SPEAKER_01]: middle known as Toll Galean and that is the

[00:47:21] [SPEAKER_01]: Green Isle and that's actually where Berenin,

[00:47:23] [SPEAKER_01]: Luthian end up living and so they live

[00:47:26] [SPEAKER_01]: amongst the elves of Osirian.

[00:47:29] [SPEAKER_00]: Nice and that's where Beren never speaks a

[00:47:32] [SPEAKER_00]: word to mortal man again.

[00:47:33] [SPEAKER_01]: Never again that's actually where they pass

[00:47:35] [SPEAKER_01]: and no mortal man or anybody knows whatever

[00:47:38] [SPEAKER_01]: became of them.

[00:47:40] [SPEAKER_00]: Except the writer of this book.

[00:47:43] [SPEAKER_01]: Except the writer of the book so.

[00:47:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah that's a question right because

[00:47:46] [SPEAKER_00]: this is supposed to be an internal text so how

[00:47:48] [SPEAKER_00]: did we know?

[00:47:50] [SPEAKER_01]: You know, we just got to just trust that these

[00:47:54] [SPEAKER_01]: stories are being told by the proper authorities

[00:47:57] [SPEAKER_01]: and you know what I'm saying?

[00:47:58] [SPEAKER_00]: It's all Noldor propaganda.

[00:48:00] [SPEAKER_01]: Exactly that's what I always say it's Noldor

[00:48:03] [SPEAKER_01]: propaganda but they I don't believe that only

[00:48:06] [SPEAKER_01]: because they actually give the dwarves so much

[00:48:09] [SPEAKER_01]: props.

[00:48:10] [SPEAKER_01]: Beside the you know the war they give the

[00:48:13] [SPEAKER_01]: dwarves much props with certain things and

[00:48:17] [SPEAKER_01]: you know it's been upset talking about the

[00:48:19] [SPEAKER_01]: dwarves I probably say like one of the

[00:48:22] [SPEAKER_01]: last things that we'd say is in the blue

[00:48:25] [SPEAKER_01]: mountains like kind of directly in the middle

[00:48:27] [SPEAKER_01]: of the blue mountains maybe a little south

[00:48:28] [SPEAKER_01]: we have the two dwarven kingdoms or the

[00:48:30] [SPEAKER_01]: dwarven mansions of Belagos which is further

[00:48:33] [SPEAKER_01]: north and then we have the kingdom or the mansion

[00:48:37] [SPEAKER_01]: of Nagrod these are two great dwarven mansions

[00:48:41] [SPEAKER_01]: there are masters at mining crafting especially

[00:48:45] [SPEAKER_01]: Nagrod they're unmatched in their crafting

[00:48:47] [SPEAKER_01]: abilities Telcar who made Narsil the sword

[00:48:51] [SPEAKER_01]: that cut the ring from Sauron's hand.

[00:48:53] [SPEAKER_01]: He also made Angus the knife that's cut

[00:48:56] [SPEAKER_01]: the Silmaril from the crown of Morgoth

[00:48:58] [SPEAKER_01]: he made the dragon helm of Dior Loman.

[00:49:00] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure he had a hand in making the Nile

[00:49:02] [SPEAKER_01]: Blamir Telcar is the greatest dwarven

[00:49:04] [SPEAKER_01]: Smith third greatest Smith in the histories

[00:49:07] [SPEAKER_01]: of Valarion the Middle Earth behind

[00:49:09] [SPEAKER_01]: Feanor and Caleb Brimbo.

[00:49:11] [SPEAKER_01]: So they have a monster of a a Smith

[00:49:16] [SPEAKER_01]: a crafter of a person of a being

[00:49:18] [SPEAKER_01]: if this is his works are renowned and

[00:49:21] [SPEAKER_01]: their great dwarven kingdoms right there

[00:49:24] [SPEAKER_01]: and they have a mountain that they use

[00:49:26] [SPEAKER_01]: to come down off the dwarf road

[00:49:30] [SPEAKER_01]: it's called Mount Dolmed so that is where

[00:49:32] [SPEAKER_01]: the road that leads from their two kingdoms

[00:49:34] [SPEAKER_01]: meets and comes down and that's how they

[00:49:36] [SPEAKER_01]: traffic into Valarion from Mount Dolmed

[00:49:38] [SPEAKER_01]: and they travel and they actually worked

[00:49:40] [SPEAKER_01]: with the elves in Doriath and they had

[00:49:44] [SPEAKER_01]: great profit from you know trading

[00:49:47] [SPEAKER_01]: with them and doing works for them

[00:49:49] [SPEAKER_01]: they actually built Minigaroth the

[00:49:52] [SPEAKER_01]: thousand caves and they built Nargothraund

[00:49:54] [SPEAKER_01]: and Mellion you know gave them great

[00:49:56] [SPEAKER_01]: knowledge and help them and also

[00:50:00] [SPEAKER_01]: there is a little forest man Elm off

[00:50:03] [SPEAKER_01]: right on the outside skirts on the western

[00:50:05] [SPEAKER_01]: edge of Doriath that a dark elf

[00:50:09] [SPEAKER_01]: lives in and he's close to the thing

[00:50:11] [SPEAKER_01]: or his name is a all well a all is a dark

[00:50:14] [SPEAKER_01]: elf that does not like anybody else

[00:50:16] [SPEAKER_01]: but he loves it to dwarves and the

[00:50:18] [SPEAKER_01]: dwarf road passes right by his crib

[00:50:21] [SPEAKER_01]: so they talk and maybe came great friends

[00:50:23] [SPEAKER_01]: and this is with the earliest known

[00:50:25] [SPEAKER_01]: right true friendship between elves and

[00:50:27] [SPEAKER_01]: dwarves came from and in that forest of

[00:50:30] [SPEAKER_01]: Nan Elm off which has the tallest trees

[00:50:31] [SPEAKER_01]: and all of Valarion that's where

[00:50:35] [SPEAKER_01]: Mellion and Thingul fell in love and

[00:50:37] [SPEAKER_01]: now a old dwells there and that's

[00:50:39] [SPEAKER_01]: where my Glyn was born and you know

[00:50:42] [SPEAKER_01]: that's where he ensnared Arathel

[00:50:45] [SPEAKER_01]: Turgon sister when she left Gondolin

[00:50:47] [SPEAKER_01]: and he learns much crafts from

[00:50:51] [SPEAKER_01]: the dwarves of Belagos and Nogrod

[00:50:53] [SPEAKER_01]: and dokes out his son Mydolin and this

[00:50:55] [SPEAKER_01]: is where we get great swords

[00:50:58] [SPEAKER_01]: this that you know the sword both

[00:51:00] [SPEAKER_01]: things ends up being created by El

[00:51:02] [SPEAKER_01]: who learned his craft from the dwarves

[00:51:05] [SPEAKER_01]: so it's all the geography ties him

[00:51:08] [SPEAKER_01]: with the story and it's awesome

[00:51:10] [SPEAKER_00]: well new better do better I really

[00:51:12] [SPEAKER_00]: appreciate you coming here because

[00:51:13] [SPEAKER_00]: I could not have explained that half

[00:51:18] [SPEAKER_00]: and so I'm so glad that you volunteered

[00:51:19] [SPEAKER_00]: for this chapter that I was terrified

[00:51:21] [SPEAKER_00]: of covering

[00:51:22] [SPEAKER_01]: man so I'm sorry we could have more

[00:51:25] [SPEAKER_01]: time man that's all right
