00:09 --> 00:13 [SPEAKER_01]: Welcome to Cosmere Corner, a recap and analysis of the works of Brandon Sanderson.
00:13 --> 00:14 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm John.
00:14 --> 00:15 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm Aaron.
00:16 --> 00:21 [SPEAKER_00]: And I'm Richard, and this is going to be our coverage of chapter 6 through 9 of Mistborn the final empire.
00:22 --> 00:27 [SPEAKER_02]: And in this episode, we are going to be talking about highest planning, allomantic training, and mist raids.
00:29 --> 00:33 [SPEAKER_01]: If you want to get bonus content or support the show, you can do that for just three bucks a month at first.
00:34 --> 00:37 [SPEAKER_01]: That's our starter deal for early birds.
00:37 --> 00:39 [SPEAKER_01]: You can lock that in now forever.
00:39 --> 00:42 [SPEAKER_01]: You can do that in the Patreon linked in the show notes.
00:45 --> 00:53 [SPEAKER_00]: And moving forward, this is going to be our spoiler warning for everything we've read so far, which is as of today, everything through chapter nine.
00:54 --> 00:55 [SPEAKER_01]: All right, everybody.
00:55 --> 00:56 [SPEAKER_01]: We've got a lot to talk about today.
00:56 --> 00:57 [SPEAKER_01]: So let's get right into it.
00:57 --> 00:59 [SPEAKER_01]: Aaron, what's your hot takes on these chapters?
01:00 --> 01:09 [SPEAKER_02]: Ooh, starting off with number one, I have to say, these chapters introduce my favorite duo in the Cosmere, Vin, and Saised.
01:09 --> 01:10 [SPEAKER_02]: It is Saised, right?
01:10 --> 01:15 [SPEAKER_02]: I feel like I have to check in with the pronunciations every time with our audio book listeners.
01:16 --> 01:20 [SPEAKER_00]: It's Saised in the audio books, but I mean, I think,
01:21 --> 01:26 [SPEAKER_00]: Given the accent that like the terrorist people have in the audiobooks, I think you're probably more right.
01:27 --> 01:27 [SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
01:28 --> 01:37 [SPEAKER_01]: So, say the... say the... say the... say the... Well, you know, tell... tell to your calls him, say he's a lot, so I feel like he would make sense to call him, say he's a...
01:37 --> 01:38 [SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
01:38 --> 01:38 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
01:38 --> 01:39 [SPEAKER_02]: We'll stick with that.
01:39 --> 01:41 [SPEAKER_02]: Favorite terrorists in steward?
01:41 --> 01:44 [SPEAKER_02]: I just love his relationship with Vin.
01:44 --> 01:45 [SPEAKER_02]: They've got such a good...
01:46 --> 01:54 [SPEAKER_02]: sort of mentor mentee dynamic as well as a really sweet friendship that starts to blossom in these chapters.
01:54 --> 01:56 [SPEAKER_02]: So I'm excited to see a little bit more of that going forward.
01:59 --> 02:04 [SPEAKER_02]: And then I would also add that this is a really good place for Sanderson to end part one.
02:04 --> 02:13 [SPEAKER_02]: I think all of that heavy setup that was going on in the past few chapters started to feel a little bit like a slog towards the end here.
02:13 --> 02:17 [SPEAKER_02]: So finding that right caught off point was really important for him.
02:17 --> 02:19 [SPEAKER_02]: And I think he did a good job of that.
02:21 --> 02:31 [SPEAKER_00]: I don't have a lot to say on hot takes, but I like, I like, say that he's one of my favorite characters in the Cosmere as a whole, and I really like Marsh, but more on that later.
02:33 --> 02:35 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, there's a lot of great character introductions on this.
02:36 --> 02:38 [SPEAKER_01]: I will say it's still pretty formulaic at this point.
02:38 --> 02:53 [SPEAKER_01]: Like we've got our standard Sanderson rules of the video game, the fighting rules, the weaknesses, the power-ups of Alomansi in this chapter, or in these set of chapters, especially in the training montajos.
02:53 --> 03:14 [SPEAKER_01]: But at the same time, he's executing it at such a high level like this is this is his bread and butter right like this is why people come to Sanderson is to see these characters just be awesome and especially I really like that there's a time skip in between part one and part two since we just enter part two in this podcast and we see already that Vin is becoming
03:15 --> 03:18 [SPEAKER_01]: a kind of a master at this stuff very quickly.
03:18 --> 03:23 [SPEAKER_01]: It's really fun to go right from the tutorial to like, you know, boss battles, kind of thing.
03:24 --> 03:24 [SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
03:25 --> 03:38 [SPEAKER_01]: And I kind of liked the dynamic between Kels here and everybody, like every time Kels here is talking to somebody, I was like, oh, there's a reason he's charming and he's able to, you know, be a leader of these disparate people.
03:39 --> 03:40 [SPEAKER_01]: These groups that shouldn't go together.
03:41 --> 03:57 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think it's interesting that he's used almost as a lynch pen kind of for all of these separate groups that wouldn't even interact, honestly, like half the time it's it's a cool like a societal dynamic to have.
03:58 --> 04:04 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and I think it's because you didn't has like a whole monitor vibe and he just nobody wants to hang out with them because of that.
04:05 --> 04:07 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think you didn't
04:10 --> 04:17 [SPEAKER_00]: In terms of like what he is for the rebellion, but he just doesn't have the charisma that Mart and Kelsey are had or have.
04:18 --> 04:19 [SPEAKER_02]: Eden has no charisma.
04:19 --> 04:21 [SPEAKER_02]: That man is a vacuum.
04:21 --> 04:24 [SPEAKER_02]: It's a wonder that he's the leader of the Scarabelion at this point.
04:26 --> 04:28 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I feel like it's because it's a job nobody wants, right?
04:28 --> 04:36 [SPEAKER_01]: And I mean, yeah, the whole crew here, clubs, Docs, and Kelsey are breweries.
04:36 --> 04:39 [SPEAKER_01]: They all are dripping with riz as the kids say today.
04:40 --> 04:43 [SPEAKER_01]: And they just bring their aura farming, right?
04:43 --> 04:45 [SPEAKER_01]: They spend the first few chapters here or a farming.
04:45 --> 04:46 [SPEAKER_01]: And I appreciate that.
04:48 --> 04:48 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
04:48 --> 04:49 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
04:49 --> 04:56 [SPEAKER_00]: Sanderson writes or a farming well, especially, I think I need a jar just for storm light, but especially in storm light.
04:58 --> 05:00 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, those are the biggest door of farmers.
05:00 --> 05:04 [SPEAKER_02]: I'm looking forward to what did we say three or five years down the line?
05:04 --> 05:06 [SPEAKER_02]: I think our years will be doing it.
05:06 --> 05:08 [SPEAKER_01]: We've got a lot to get through before then.
05:09 --> 05:11 [SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, the Kelsey here is definitely an or a farmer.
05:11 --> 05:14 [SPEAKER_01]: And so is basically all of this crew, especially Breeze.
05:14 --> 05:16 [SPEAKER_01]: Oh my god, I forgot how much I liked Breeze before this read.
05:18 --> 05:20 [SPEAKER_01]: And of course we're watching Vince start to open up.
05:20 --> 05:27 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure that will start to come more soon But it's a good character development because it's happening slowly.
05:27 --> 05:30 [SPEAKER_01]: It's not one one thing all at once
05:31 --> 05:49 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'm glad that we get that time skip in or between chapters eight and nine and Vin is still pretty distrust thing, you know, she's come a little ways, but not super far, so he's definitely writing this character development as a slow burn.
05:51 --> 05:59 [SPEAKER_02]: The only thing that I didn't mention in my hot takes, which I kind of wanted to add on is that we pretty much have our cast right now.
05:59 --> 06:08 [SPEAKER_02]: We have our main cast with one notable exception, which I won't mention right now, but we, yeah, we're stacked up with our roster.
06:09 --> 06:09 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
06:10 --> 06:12 [SPEAKER_01]: We've got the highest crew ready to go.
06:13 --> 06:15 [SPEAKER_01]: Why don't we get right into it with chapter six.
06:15 --> 06:18 [SPEAKER_01]: We're going to go through chapter six through nine today.
06:18 --> 06:20 [SPEAKER_01]: There's going to be multi sections for some of these chapters.
06:21 --> 06:22 [SPEAKER_01]: I'll read the first one.
06:23 --> 06:24 [SPEAKER_01]: This is about the plan.
06:25 --> 06:29 [SPEAKER_01]: Then awakens in clubs' workshop and is summoned to a meeting of Kelsir's crew.
06:30 --> 06:32 [SPEAKER_01]: At the meeting, they discussed their primary strategies.
06:32 --> 06:33 [SPEAKER_01]: First, raise an army.
06:34 --> 06:37 [SPEAKER_01]: Second, create conflict with the great houses of Luthadel.
06:38 --> 06:44 [SPEAKER_01]: Third, lure the 20 Imperial Soldiers away from the city.
06:44 --> 06:50 [SPEAKER_01]: Vince suggests that they lure the army away from the Delta towards the pits of Hatsen and the group agrees.
06:51 --> 07:00 [SPEAKER_01]: It's also decided that while the others work on their tasks, Vince will infiltrate the nobles, Calseries older brother March arrives and crashes the meeting.
07:03 --> 07:13 [SPEAKER_02]: How do we feel about Vin being the one to infiltrate the high society of Luther Dell being just a lowly streeterton?
07:14 --> 07:28 [SPEAKER_00]: I think obviously it's going to it's interesting to see her kind of figure out how to fit in with these people, but I also think in terms of the plan it's interesting that Kelsey is putting this much trust in someone he just maybe not just met, but
07:29 --> 07:38 [SPEAKER_00]: I've relatively just met compared to everyone else in the crew, um, but it does really like I think that's a good character moment for Calcyre.
07:40 --> 07:45 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and it gives Vin a little bit of motivation to start trusting people if she thinks to herself.
07:46 --> 07:48 [SPEAKER_02]: This person really is trusting me.
07:48 --> 07:50 [SPEAKER_02]: It's not just a game anymore.
07:50 --> 07:53 [SPEAKER_02]: I can move past that mindset a little bit.
07:53 --> 07:55 [SPEAKER_02]: It does a lot for her character.
07:56 --> 08:16 [SPEAKER_01]: right, trust is given and taken right, he can, he can't be a warmly street, even we see in a later chapter here, how Kels here excludes her for a bit and he's like, oh man, I know I just bots this a little bit, I got to go back and patch this up a little bit, then it's interesting because it's almost like a Cinderella story, right, but like a twisted Cinderella story that she's having.
08:17 --> 08:28 [SPEAKER_01]: from rags to riches, but fake riches, and working for a mysterious Lord, who's not a Lord, and nobody wants to talk about why he's an exact replica.
08:30 --> 08:35 [SPEAKER_01]: And now we all know the answer to that, so we can't speculate, but I think that's a fun thing to flag here.
08:36 --> 08:42 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I appreciated some of the members of the crew telling you, and you don't even want to know, just leave that with me.
08:42 --> 08:43 [SPEAKER_02]: Leave that with me.
08:47 --> 08:48 [SPEAKER_01]: Well, we've got plenty of stuff here.
08:48 --> 08:54 [SPEAKER_01]: Marsh is introduced, and we'll talk more about him in the next chapter, but we're a name drop in everybody here.
08:55 --> 08:57 [SPEAKER_01]: What do you think about this plan?
08:57 --> 09:02 [SPEAKER_01]: Can we, Richard, if you were going to lure 20 soldiers away, what would you do?
09:04 --> 09:13 [SPEAKER_00]: Honestly, I think there'd have to be small rebellions all over the, not like the outer dominance is obviously,
09:17 --> 09:27 [SPEAKER_00]: areas where it would be realistic for the Lord Ruler to send his troops for like, you know, some like the Middling towns and cities I guess.
09:28 --> 09:30 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's tricky, right?
09:30 --> 09:32 [SPEAKER_01]: Because you have, you have a few factors to play.
09:32 --> 09:37 [SPEAKER_01]: And I think Santa soon does a pretty good job playing these out of like, you know, first of all, you need him to send all of the troops.
09:37 --> 09:40 [SPEAKER_01]: You can't just have him send parts of that make to parts of the places.
09:41 --> 09:49 [SPEAKER_01]: And second, he, if it becomes too much of a problem, he's going to call him the colos, which we don't know what those are yet, but we know that that's bad.
09:49 --> 09:51 [SPEAKER_01]: We don't want the colos involved.
09:51 --> 09:56 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and all I can think of when they got name drops, but obviously again, no details.
09:58 --> 10:09 [SPEAKER_00]: Colos makes you think, okay, these gotta be, they gotta be something bigger than human, because obviously the root of the word like colossal is in there, but who knows?
10:10 --> 10:34 [SPEAKER_01]: yeah who knows when we have these powers going on that can make a normal size person extra strong uh... who knows what is possible they could just have colossal strength notes uh... i actually don't remember much about them so i'm actually in on the mystery here because i was like wait what was what so that'll be fun i'll pretend to be a first time reader for that Aaron yeah
10:36 --> 10:41 [SPEAKER_01]: What do you think about the idea of putting everybody in the caves that the Lord ruler already knows about?
10:43 --> 10:46 [SPEAKER_02]: I feel like it's not the worst idea that they've had.
10:47 --> 10:49 [SPEAKER_02]: They explain it pretty well when they...
10:50 --> 10:52 [SPEAKER_02]: talk about, you know, it's a good choke point.
10:52 --> 10:58 [SPEAKER_02]: The Lord ruler would definitely lose a lot more than he would take out during that and he hates looking weak.
10:58 --> 11:02 [SPEAKER_02]: But at the same time, he doesn't know where the caves are.
11:02 --> 11:04 [SPEAKER_02]: The location is being a secret.
11:04 --> 11:08 [SPEAKER_02]: It feels like it should be pretty primary in their goals.
11:09 --> 11:13 [SPEAKER_02]: But I guess it's just not a big concern for them.
11:14 --> 11:42 [SPEAKER_01]: It's tricky right because the best lies have a hint of truth have a core of truth and this would be a lie with a core of truth Right that there are rebels in these caves, but just they're not actually a threat And they're making a lot of noise by the end of the set of chapters right yeah It reminds me a bit of something from and or kind of Kind of what Cassian said and I think it's the first season He says like they wouldn't imagine you blending in that you're able to like
11:44 --> 11:46 [SPEAKER_00]: meet them on their level kind of.
11:46 --> 11:58 [SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's where the Lord Ruler is coming from where he's not going to attack them because he also just doesn't think that there are enough of a credible threat to actually like do something about, you know?
11:58 --> 11:59 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
11:59 --> 12:04 [SPEAKER_02]: And it's defense without the plan, they really aren't 10 scaw warriors that
12:05 --> 12:18 [SPEAKER_02]: Even if they were training for 15 years in those caves, they still wouldn't pose much of a threat to the Lord ruler or his armies without having this very specific, very cunning plan in place.
12:19 --> 12:24 [SPEAKER_01]: Right, and I cut out a lot of the plan in this outline because it's just so, there's so many pieces, right?
12:24 --> 12:28 [SPEAKER_01]: Like, we're gonna infiltrate the ministry if March can do it.
12:29 --> 12:31 [SPEAKER_01]: And there's a lot of pieces here.
12:31 --> 12:35 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, a lot of moving parts, all at once, and it's so intricate.
12:36 --> 12:41 [SPEAKER_00]: But it shows that healthier is more than just what he comes off as, I guess.
12:42 --> 12:45 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and he kind of says that in the first so much after, as we did, right?
12:45 --> 12:52 [SPEAKER_01]: He's like, hey, like you want something done, you hire a crew that knows how to get something done, like maybe we haven't done this kind of work before.
12:53 --> 12:56 [SPEAKER_01]: But, you know, we're flexible project managers here.
12:57 --> 13:00 [SPEAKER_01]: I always say the Lord of the Rings is a study in project management.
13:01 --> 13:03 [SPEAKER_01]: And I think that that's true of Ms. Born II, right?
13:03 --> 13:05 [SPEAKER_01]: It is a study in project management.
13:06 --> 13:07 [SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely.
13:07 --> 13:14 [SPEAKER_02]: And even thinking about the whole trilogy, I think it applies to all three books.
13:15 --> 13:34 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think it's interesting that Kelsey, while being a missed one to, knows that there are certain things he should delegate to the mistakes that maybe he's not, you know, he's not a smoker, so maybe there's something that he's missing there that he wouldn't think to apply, whereas I think clubs is the smoker.
13:36 --> 13:41 [SPEAKER_01]: Uh, yeah, I did my reading like a week and a half ago someone yeah, no clubs is a smoker.
13:41 --> 13:44 [SPEAKER_01]: He's got his whole crew and he's the one with the safe house.
13:44 --> 13:47 [SPEAKER_01]: That's why he's the one with the safe house right against his whole crew is there.
13:47 --> 13:57 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but like I think it's interesting that he knows that even though he can do, you know, this task, he understands that someone else can do it better than him.
13:57 --> 14:00 [SPEAKER_00]: And that's a great quality to have in like the crew a meter.
14:01 --> 14:06 [SPEAKER_01]: It's clear by the end of this set of chapters that a misfortune is a jack of all trade masters.
14:06 --> 14:08 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not in.
14:08 --> 14:13 [SPEAKER_01]: And the mistakes are going to be masters of one trade, one power.
14:13 --> 14:17 [SPEAKER_01]: And so that's why vign gets a fascinated later with breeze and we'll get to that.
14:18 --> 14:33 [SPEAKER_01]: I did want to point out on her character development like she is learning to trust a little bit, but still we have this quote from chapter 6 where she later, she intended to describe how the barley and slave the flat bread which would keep well if she would need it later.
14:33 --> 14:41 [SPEAKER_01]: Like, dude, you are literally scraping possibly like already wet food, that's insane, right?
14:41 --> 14:44 [SPEAKER_01]: Like she's still doing that even though she has plenty of food right now.
14:46 --> 15:09 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's it's tough to watch and there's quotes throughout this set of chapters that make you go man this girl in through it yeah I mean in her mind this is all still temporary just because she has a meal in front of her right now She doesn't believe it's going to stick around she thinks that these people are going to throw her out on the street in five minutes if she says the wrong thing Right
15:11 --> 15:15 [SPEAKER_01]: We also get an introduction more to Breeze, I think.
15:15 --> 15:19 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, we saw him play with a little bit last set of chapters.
15:19 --> 15:28 [SPEAKER_01]: But this time, I love this quote where he goes, my dear friend, Breeze replied, the entire point of life is to find ways to get others to do your work for you.
15:29 --> 15:31 [SPEAKER_01]: Don't you know anything about basic economics?
15:33 --> 15:35 [SPEAKER_01]: Breeze would make her great CEO.
15:36 --> 15:38 [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, 100% Breeze.
15:38 --> 15:39 [SPEAKER_00]: I feel like I sent this to Aaron.
15:40 --> 15:46 [SPEAKER_00]: And John, I don't know if you'll get this, but he reminds me of this one robot from Futrava.
15:46 --> 15:50 [SPEAKER_00]: It's such a long shot that you might get this, but he's got like the top, okay.
15:50 --> 15:51 [SPEAKER_00]: I will find a picture of it though.
15:53 --> 15:55 [SPEAKER_00]: Because it is, I think you'd get it.
15:56 --> 15:57 [SPEAKER_00]: Just place the book.
15:57 --> 15:59 [SPEAKER_01]: You know what, you describe him right now.
15:59 --> 16:02 [SPEAKER_01]: I'll in editing, I will put a picture of this robot.
16:03 --> 16:05 [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, you're going to have to trust me.
16:05 --> 16:05 [SPEAKER_00]: He's got it.
16:06 --> 16:08 [SPEAKER_00]: So he's got the gold monochrome on one eye.
16:08 --> 16:13 [SPEAKER_00]: Uh, he's got like the top hat, a suit, a cane, and he talks very like pot, posh.
16:15 --> 16:20 [SPEAKER_00]: I guess this is the way I put it, which is how Breeze is voiced in the audiobook as well.
16:21 --> 16:25 [SPEAKER_00]: I think that's a really good character, like defining thing for him.
16:27 --> 16:28 [SPEAKER_01]: OK, what's the name of the robot?
16:28 --> 16:30 [SPEAKER_01]: Because I can't really find this picture.
16:31 --> 16:36 [SPEAKER_00]: I will find it and send it in the discord, because I honestly don't even think he has a name.
16:37 --> 16:41 [SPEAKER_01]: All right, well, when you're listening to this, I'll have the name under the picture so that you can actually look it up.
16:43 --> 16:47 [SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, I mean, I don't think I have much else to say about this chapter.
16:47 --> 16:49 [SPEAKER_01]: It's kind of half a chapter, right?
16:49 --> 16:53 [SPEAKER_01]: I feel like we're really going into it in the next chapter when Marsh gets into it.
16:54 --> 16:54 [SPEAKER_01]: Anybody else have something?
16:55 --> 17:02 [SPEAKER_02]: Uh, just that the robot is called billionaire bot just thought everyone should make sense get their facts straight.
17:02 --> 17:02 [SPEAKER_02]: Richard.
17:02 --> 17:15 [SPEAKER_02]: Just the one that made the Chipotle burrito small probably he's the one telling everyone that the online order is can be skimmed on Topical burn.
17:15 --> 17:16 [SPEAKER_01]: All right.
17:16 --> 17:18 [SPEAKER_01]: Let's move on to chapter seven.
17:20 --> 17:21 [SPEAKER_01]: Aaron, you want to read this one?
17:21 --> 17:22 [SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely.
17:23 --> 17:26 [SPEAKER_02]: March confronts Kelsir about his selfishness and recklessness.
17:27 --> 17:30 [SPEAKER_02]: Kelsir insists he is a new man and urges March to help them.
17:31 --> 17:34 [SPEAKER_02]: March reluctantly agrees to spy on the inquisitors.
17:34 --> 17:37 [SPEAKER_02]: Later, Kelsir brings Vin out to train.
17:37 --> 17:41 [SPEAKER_02]: He gives her a missedborn cloak and walks her through eight elementic metals.
17:42 --> 17:48 [SPEAKER_02]: Kelsir explains to Vin that the guards assume missed form to be from the great houses and allow them to move freely.
17:49 --> 17:53 [SPEAKER_02]: He guides her to burn steel to lift herself up above the city wall.
17:53 --> 17:55 [SPEAKER_02]: Very reluctantly, I might add.
17:55 --> 17:57 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I would say so.
17:59 --> 18:22 [SPEAKER_01]: uh... we get a lot of lore here this is the video gave me peace right this is the tutorial uh... elementic metals i i don't want to go because we you know you'll get the hang of them as we go i don't want to harp on this too much but we've got eight pairs that we were four pairs of two that we learned here eight total metals and then there's two more that we don't know about yet so and we know eight one of them is idiom but we don't know the other one
18:23 --> 18:41 [SPEAKER_01]: So, the elementic pairs are iron and steel which pull and push metals, tin and putter which enhance senses or enhance strength depending on which one you use, brass and zinc which respectively sue them in flame emotions and then copper and bronze which hide or reveal elementsy.
18:41 --> 18:44 [SPEAKER_01]: So, yeah, I think that's a cool way to organize a magic system.
18:44 --> 18:58 [SPEAKER_01]: This is the first time that we're talking a lot about the mechanics of elements, and I was just seeing a reaction, Richard, you're a big overhead on this, Laura Hound, if you will, but the name of the network, what was your take on this elementic stuff?
18:58 --> 19:04 [SPEAKER_01]: Like, do you enjoy this magic system and how do you compare it to Sanderson's others?
19:05 --> 19:08 [SPEAKER_00]: I think it's my favorite because of how fleshed out it is.
19:12 --> 19:31 [SPEAKER_00]: I won't say too much, but the way that it works is explained, but I feel like there's more combinations that at least the characters that we see use powers use it in a way that you wouldn't think of something that Kaladin does, or you wouldn't think of something Dalin Aranchlan, or able to do.
19:31 --> 19:36 [SPEAKER_00]: Whereas in Mistborn, I feel like you're given a lot more of like a
19:37 --> 19:40 [SPEAKER_00]: a specific frame of reference on how it can be used.
19:40 --> 19:51 [SPEAKER_00]: There are still like surprising ways that they'll use these powers as we go through, but I think that you could predict a few of those, those like unique applications down the line.
19:52 --> 19:53 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and thank you, Ryan.
19:54 --> 19:57 [SPEAKER_00]: But I did really like the whole push and pull.
19:57 --> 19:59 [SPEAKER_00]: Like everything has an equal and opposite.
20:01 --> 20:02 [SPEAKER_01]: form, I guess.
20:03 --> 20:04 [SPEAKER_01]: It feels very sciencey, right?
20:05 --> 20:13 [SPEAKER_01]: Compared to a lot of other managers, some of them, not just within Sanders, but with all of fantasy, I feel like this is one of the most sciencey ones.
20:13 --> 20:21 [SPEAKER_01]: And I almost want to like contact a scientist, but I feel like I'll insult them by being like, what do you think about this fake application of metals?
20:22 --> 20:23 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
20:23 --> 20:37 [SPEAKER_02]: I like the way the Kelsey or talks about it and says, you know, anything that can't happen in the physical world as we normally understand it wouldn't really make sense to happen with elementsy if it shouldn't happen.
20:38 --> 20:40 [SPEAKER_02]: And I think that that really captures it well.
20:40 --> 20:46 [SPEAKER_02]: It's all based on not real physics, of course, but sort of within those bounds.
20:47 --> 21:10 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he, he does, I don't remember what word of Brandon this was because it was when I first started reading Stormlight or maybe maybe towards the end of it, but he did say that he's using like he's studying like physics to make the application of Stormlight powers more realistic in like the second era and also in Missedborn's third era, he's studying some other
21:16 --> 21:21 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he's always got a good attention to detail in terms of making his magic systems work.
21:22 --> 21:26 [SPEAKER_01]: Again, there's a quote and I think that we talked about this early in our preview.
21:27 --> 21:33 [SPEAKER_01]: where he says the limitations of a magic system are more interesting than the capacities, right?
21:34 --> 21:36 [SPEAKER_01]: And here, I think we see a clear thing here, right?
21:36 --> 21:40 [SPEAKER_01]: Like Vin has to work within her own small size.
21:41 --> 21:43 [SPEAKER_01]: So she can't push against people that she's not bigger than.
21:45 --> 21:47 [SPEAKER_01]: She has to work with the fact that she's brand new to it.
21:48 --> 21:54 [SPEAKER_01]: And she has to work with the fact that people can sense her using it unless she does it the right way.
21:54 --> 22:00 [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe, you know, I think that that makes it an interesting magic system that she has to work within.
22:01 --> 22:04 [SPEAKER_01]: And it doesn't make her feel like Superman.
22:04 --> 22:07 [SPEAKER_01]: It makes her feel like, almost more like a Marvel superhero, you know what I mean?
22:07 --> 22:09 [SPEAKER_01]: Because the Marvel superheroes are way more scrappy.
22:10 --> 22:13 [SPEAKER_01]: And they're way more like this, and way more trade-offs on their powers.
22:14 --> 22:16 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, because I really like the setup here.
22:17 --> 22:20 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm just using Superman as an example.
22:20 --> 22:24 [SPEAKER_00]: He is always as strong as he needs to be to save the day.
22:24 --> 22:24 [SPEAKER_00]: Right.
22:24 --> 22:37 [SPEAKER_00]: Which I get, but I do like when the writers, when writers kind of have to work within the rules of the story that they've established, which I think Sanderson is a master at, um, at least so far.
22:39 --> 22:44 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, well, we'll see how he does, you know, we might judge him more later.
22:44 --> 22:48 [SPEAKER_01]: Brandon, you're always welcome on the pod.
22:49 --> 22:56 [SPEAKER_01]: So March was also introduced here and the release of between Kelsea and March is not exactly a pleasant one.
22:56 --> 22:58 [SPEAKER_01]: Aaron, give me your March takes.
23:00 --> 23:03 [SPEAKER_02]: I think he's generally a pretty cool guy and I think that
23:05 --> 23:12 [SPEAKER_02]: He clocks Kelsier pretty well in this by calling him out and saying, you know, I think you're in this for the money.
23:12 --> 23:14 [SPEAKER_02]: I think you're doing this for selfish reasons.
23:16 --> 23:26 [SPEAKER_02]: He knows his brother pretty well and I understand why he's not very trusting of the fact that Kelsier really wants to do the right thing and overthrow the final empire.
23:27 --> 23:28 [SPEAKER_02]: It's a tough pill for him to swallow.
23:30 --> 23:47 [SPEAKER_01]: If you grew up with someone, and they never took things seriously, and they always were just like in it for the next job, you know, carpet DM, and they show up after being gone for a while, and are like, I am now a serious political actor.
23:48 --> 23:53 [SPEAKER_01]: I think that a lot of us would be very skeptical of our little brother coming back and doing that, right?
23:55 --> 23:56 [SPEAKER_01]: And so I get it.
23:56 --> 24:05 [SPEAKER_01]: I get it and also I like Kelsey here at this you know at this juncture we spent so much time with Kelsey here and no time with March.
24:05 --> 24:15 [SPEAKER_01]: So I want to root for Kelsey here at the same time March has great points and there is one week this in March's points which is Kelsey's scars.
24:15 --> 24:19 [SPEAKER_01]: He obviously has been through a traumatic incident and that has changed him.
24:20 --> 24:24 [SPEAKER_01]: And I don't know if Mars is being completely fair to him.
24:24 --> 24:43 [SPEAKER_01]: That said, Mars does come around in the end, and he does decide to help the crew because he would, he also sees the purpose of this project and the fact that if they can get the results that they're aiming for, it will be a positive, regardless of if his brother that he maybe doubts a little bit is involved.
24:44 --> 24:57 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it was a really powerful moment as well between Marsh and Kelsey, or when we have Marsh saying, I wish it hadn't been you who survived the pits of Hatson.
24:58 --> 24:59 [SPEAKER_02]: Ruff, yeah, it's ruff.
25:01 --> 25:04 [SPEAKER_02]: Just imagine saying that to your little brother, that's crazy.
25:05 --> 25:11 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that it does show an interesting like divide between the two and I am glad that they
25:13 --> 25:18 [SPEAKER_00]: that the story continues and maybe they mend it at least enough, but that is just insane.
25:20 --> 25:24 [SPEAKER_02]: I feel bad for Kelsey, especially because he agrees with Marsh.
25:25 --> 25:27 [SPEAKER_02]: He wishes that he wasn't the one who made it out either.
25:29 --> 25:31 [SPEAKER_01]: We always see those cracks in his smile, right?
25:31 --> 25:36 [SPEAKER_01]: He's the happier, happy warrior, but then it's behind that facade.
25:36 --> 25:38 [SPEAKER_01]: He's always having this self-doubt.
25:38 --> 25:43 [SPEAKER_01]: He's always feeling like he's not enough, I think.
25:43 --> 25:44 [SPEAKER_01]: It's tricky, right?
25:44 --> 25:46 [SPEAKER_01]: He hasn't ego, but he does it at the same time.
25:47 --> 25:55 [SPEAKER_01]: And I think you see that kind of agility and a lot of people and a lot of leaders, especially better leaders, always have doubts because they're wrestling with them by doing the right thing.
25:55 --> 25:56 [SPEAKER_01]: They're being thoughtful.
25:58 --> 26:06 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think that's probably the best mark of a leader in this type of situation, like the unraveled leader.
26:09 --> 26:12 [SPEAKER_00]: I feel like I had more to say on that, but I don't know.
26:12 --> 26:14 [SPEAKER_01]: Luke's gotta go to the cave on Dagobah, right?
26:14 --> 26:17 [SPEAKER_01]: Like, you gotta have that moment of doubt here.
26:18 --> 26:36 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and then he owned, you know, they had him dressing all black for a return of the Jedi, and then they showed that white bit on the outside when he goes back to the light side, or it's symbolic of him going back to the light side at the very end, which I thought was, that's always one of my favorite details in that movie.
26:38 --> 26:41 [SPEAKER_01]: Well, we have non-star wars things to talk about.
26:41 --> 26:43 [SPEAKER_01]: Anything else on this chapter?
26:45 --> 26:46 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't think so.
26:49 --> 26:51 [SPEAKER_01]: we've got chapter eight coming up.
26:52 --> 26:53 [SPEAKER_01]: We've got a few sections here.
26:54 --> 26:56 [SPEAKER_01]: So why don't we take a break and then we'll get right into it.
27:06 --> 27:07 [SPEAKER_01]: And we're back.
27:08 --> 27:11 [SPEAKER_00]: Richard, you want to read the first section here of chapter eight?
27:12 --> 27:12 [SPEAKER_00]: Oh yeah,
27:15 --> 27:23 [SPEAKER_00]: And it starts with Vin suspended in the air as Kelsey or throws another in-git over the wall to allow her to get down on the other side.
27:23 --> 27:29 [SPEAKER_00]: She tries, but almost falls before Kelsey or saves her with the metal weights he had her wear.
27:29 --> 27:32 [SPEAKER_00]: Once they're on the other side, Vin feels watched.
27:32 --> 27:34 [SPEAKER_00]: Kelsey or Shoser, what was watching them?
27:35 --> 27:35 [SPEAKER_00]: A mystery.
27:36 --> 27:39 [SPEAKER_00]: A being that consumes dead things and can take on their
27:43 --> 27:44 [SPEAKER_01]: I love them, it's very stuff.
27:44 --> 27:51 [SPEAKER_01]: I really like that, you know, there's these superstitions of the scott and they won't go out because of the mystery.
27:52 --> 27:55 [SPEAKER_01]: And Kelsey, there's like, oh, there's nothing to be afraid of.
27:55 --> 27:59 [SPEAKER_01]: So you think that that means if they're not real, but then, of course, we have this chapter.
27:59 --> 28:00 [SPEAKER_01]: And he's like, oh, no, they're real.
28:01 --> 28:02 [SPEAKER_01]: They're just, you know, they're not going to hurt you.
28:02 --> 28:03 [SPEAKER_01]: They're just little guys.
28:04 --> 28:07 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I do like the way that Sanderson weaves like,
28:08 --> 28:14 [SPEAKER_00]: Kind of like cryptid creatures into his worlds, obviously we've got the mystery it's
28:15 --> 28:23 [SPEAKER_00]: and there's stuff on Stormlight or in Stormlight and there's stuff on Nalthus from Warbreaker, but obviously we can't get there yet.
28:23 --> 28:26 [SPEAKER_00]: But it is an interesting way to do it.
28:26 --> 28:31 [SPEAKER_00]: Very reminiscent of like, Bothman and the Wendigo and Skinwalkers, all that.
28:31 --> 28:41 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm thinking about Supernatural, Eric Crippky saying, you know, every myth has its origin, right, you know, and I don't actually think that's true.
28:43 --> 28:49 [SPEAKER_01]: You know, I don't think that there's always a great of truth in the world, but in good fiction there is, right?
28:49 --> 28:55 [SPEAKER_01]: Because you don't just have these red herrings, you have, you have check-out's gone.
28:55 --> 28:55 [SPEAKER_01]: Right.
28:55 --> 28:56 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
28:57 --> 28:58 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, check-out's gone.
28:58 --> 29:08 [SPEAKER_01]: I always think of, I don't know if either if you read Dungeon Crawler Carl, but this guy, he just runs forward, writing, and he just keeps a list of his check-out's guns, so that he'd fire them at any point.
29:09 --> 29:11 [SPEAKER_00]: I'm not gonna lie, I tried Dungeon Crawler,
29:13 --> 29:20 [SPEAKER_00]: Dungeon crawler Carl and I was not that much of a fan and Richard will be leaving the podcast after Yes, I'm so sad.
29:20 --> 29:29 [SPEAKER_00]: I will give it another shot, but I want to try a will of the many is my next read Well, we'll put the mad dinner on a side
29:30 --> 29:53 [SPEAKER_02]: He almost have to laugh at the way that Kelsier is describing the mistakes here, especially when he talks about, oh no, they would never go after a fully grown human, which you don't really know if he's joking around and trying to scare Vin a little bit and being like oh, it might eat a kid, but it would need a full grown person or if he's being serious about that.
29:54 --> 29:55 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like will he eat a kid?
29:56 --> 29:56 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
29:57 --> 29:58 [SPEAKER_01]: He does not, he does not specify.
30:01 --> 30:07 [SPEAKER_01]: Hmm, well, misreads are one thing, but I don't think we're going to learn too much more about them right now.
30:09 --> 30:10 [SPEAKER_01]: What do you think about it?
30:10 --> 30:12 [SPEAKER_01]: Kelsey is trust exercise.
30:12 --> 30:14 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that's a rough thing to put her through, huh?
30:16 --> 30:18 [SPEAKER_02]: I think it's necessary.
30:19 --> 30:20 [SPEAKER_02]: It's tough, but I think
30:22 --> 30:29 [SPEAKER_02]: He's trying to do a little bit better than his master before him and be a little bit less traumatizing in his little bit.
30:29 --> 30:31 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but not by much.
30:32 --> 30:45 [SPEAKER_00]: I think it's a, maybe not a good turning point necessarily in their whole relationship, but it does help push within a long in realizing that she should trust Kelsey here, at least more than she currently does.
30:45 --> 30:48 [SPEAKER_00]: And then that leads her to trusting more people, which is just a great thing.
30:49 --> 31:16 [SPEAKER_01]: it's basically just a dramatic trust fall right like he so he forces her into a situation where she has to trust him and then later when she's like I don't know if I trust you he goes well you already did so I guess we're in the past here a little bit of a gacha there with the trust issues yeah the the whole trust fall thing it is manipulative I think
31:18 --> 31:21 [SPEAKER_01]: and that is a characteristic of calsear.
31:21 --> 31:28 [SPEAKER_01]: Of course we have breezes whole monologue later about how manipulation is the key to life and everybody manipulates one.
31:29 --> 31:37 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if I agree with his characterization of manipulation either, but, you know, for this, you see that he's doing that right here.
31:38 --> 31:44 [SPEAKER_01]: At the same time, I also get what he's saying of like, I need to desensitize you to bad things, to scary things.
31:44 --> 31:46 [SPEAKER_01]: Otherwise, you'll never get the hang of this.
31:46 --> 31:49 [SPEAKER_01]: And then when you get to a scary thing later, you'll mess up.
31:53 --> 31:55 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's very like tough love and
31:56 --> 32:02 [SPEAKER_00]: I'd rather have you make a mistake now when you have a safety net than when your life's really on the line.
32:02 --> 32:05 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
32:07 --> 32:09 [SPEAKER_01]: Well, we've got a lot more on this chapter.
32:09 --> 32:10 [SPEAKER_01]: There's a choice given.
32:11 --> 32:14 [SPEAKER_01]: Kelsey reveals the true reason for their travel outside the city.
32:15 --> 32:17 [SPEAKER_01]: They meet with Cezed.
32:17 --> 32:19 [SPEAKER_01]: Man, I'm going to have to worry about that.
32:19 --> 32:24 [SPEAKER_01]: Cezed a terrorist man who brings him to the estate of Lord Renew.
32:26 --> 32:34 [SPEAKER_01]: Okay, all right, audio book people to the state of Lord Renew in the neighboring town of Felice on the way there.
32:34 --> 32:36 [SPEAKER_01]: Kelsea here offers a vine and out.
32:36 --> 32:42 [SPEAKER_01]: She can go now and he'll even tell her about the last two elementic metals and give her the 3 boxings he took from Cayman.
32:43 --> 32:48 [SPEAKER_01]: She chooses not to but keeps the boxings and I appreciate that.
32:48 --> 32:51 [SPEAKER_01]: I really appreciate that she keeps the boxing.
32:52 --> 32:53 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it gives her
32:54 --> 33:02 [SPEAKER_02]: a little bit of a feeling of independence that if she wants to escape, she can go at any time and be moderately wealthy.
33:03 --> 33:09 [SPEAKER_02]: But she is choosing to stay with this new found family that is forming around her.
33:10 --> 33:16 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, she's certain to trust people a little more, but she's not, obviously she's not fully there yet.
33:18 --> 33:23 [SPEAKER_01]: It's interesting to the times that Sanderson gives us the POV of Kelsey her, right?
33:23 --> 33:25 [SPEAKER_01]: It's not often, but it happens.
33:25 --> 33:30 [SPEAKER_01]: And here is when we get that in Kelsey her and it's like taking a big risk here if she walks away.
33:30 --> 33:36 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm kind of screwed with a lot of things, but I need to do this because I need her to actually trust me.
33:36 --> 33:39 [SPEAKER_01]: We're going to get killed if we go in there and you didn't trust us.
33:41 --> 33:44 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and he's never one to back down from a risk.
33:44 --> 33:49 [SPEAKER_02]: He'll always take it if he thinks, it even has the slightest chance of paying off for him.
33:50 --> 33:50 [SPEAKER_01]: Right.
33:51 --> 33:54 [SPEAKER_01]: Richard, you want to walk us through some more elements, you rules?
33:55 --> 33:59 [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I mean, if you're dressed in my arm, I guess I have to.
33:59 --> 34:03 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we learned really just three that are pretty important.
34:03 --> 34:07 [SPEAKER_00]: The number one is, don't go to sleep with metals in your stomach.
34:08 --> 34:23 [SPEAKER_00]: the second one is that the alloys need to be absolutely perfect, which does make sense, a little bit of knowledge for me outside of the books that I feel like Brandon would take in a consideration, ideal with the same type of thing with welding.
34:23 --> 34:31 [SPEAKER_00]: We have, we'll get a box of wire sometimes, like welding wire and it's not perfect and we can't use it so we have to throw the
34:32 --> 34:56 [SPEAKER_00]: and things like that are super important because for in that case it won't be structurally sound whatever but in this case it just you know it won't work it with magic as well and it'll make you sick right and it'll make you sick yeah and then oh sorry I was just gonna say do you make sure to burn off all your metals before you go to sleep though?
34:57 --> 34:57 [SPEAKER_00]: That's him.
34:57 --> 34:58 [SPEAKER_01]: I do.
34:59 --> 35:04 [SPEAKER_00]: I try to, but I think I think my lungs are just full of metal at this point.
35:04 --> 35:07 [SPEAKER_01]: Oh gosh, I mean, you should probably say a professional about that.
35:08 --> 35:10 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, just me, my help.
35:10 --> 35:11 [SPEAKER_00]: Just a bit.
35:12 --> 35:14 [SPEAKER_00]: And burning non-elmetic metals can kill you.
35:15 --> 35:21 [SPEAKER_00]: I have not tried that yet, because everything is steel and iron and aluminum.
35:21 --> 35:23 [SPEAKER_01]: I like that you should be sitting there.
35:23 --> 35:24 [SPEAKER_00]: Fuck, aluminum, aluminum.
35:25 --> 35:25 [SPEAKER_00]: Take that out.
35:27 --> 35:27 [SPEAKER_01]: All right, make you joker again.
35:30 --> 35:33 [SPEAKER_00]: I haven't tried burning any non-elomantic metals yet.
35:33 --> 35:35 [SPEAKER_00]: Everything's iron and steel.
35:37 --> 35:41 [SPEAKER_01]: I think at the end of this season I want to make a compilation of retired cursing when he makes a mistake.
35:41 --> 35:42 [SPEAKER_01]: I like that idea.
35:42 --> 35:43 [SPEAKER_01]: I think that's a good idea.
35:43 --> 35:44 [SPEAKER_01]: It's a patreon benefit.
35:45 --> 35:46 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's going to happen a lot.
35:49 --> 35:49 [SPEAKER_02]: Wonderful.
35:51 --> 35:55 [SPEAKER_02]: Uh, personally, I just eat off a pewter plate so that I can get lead poisoning.
35:57 --> 35:59 [SPEAKER_00]: Do that's amazing, the stillishess.
36:00 --> 36:02 [SPEAKER_01]: Well, well, you have your lead poisoning.
36:02 --> 36:04 [SPEAKER_01]: Give us your thoughts on Cesar.
36:06 --> 36:08 [SPEAKER_02]: Cesar is maybe the best character.
36:09 --> 36:11 [SPEAKER_02]: In fiction, not even just the Cosmere.
36:12 --> 36:13 [SPEAKER_01]: You know what I'm saying, wow.
36:14 --> 36:17 [SPEAKER_00]: Cesar, I'm gonna say big thumbs down to that.
36:17 --> 36:18 [SPEAKER_00]: No offense to Cesar.
36:18 --> 36:19 [SPEAKER_00]: He is so goaded.
36:20 --> 36:21 [SPEAKER_00]: He's not that golden.
36:22 --> 36:23 [SPEAKER_00]: He's not that golden man.
36:23 --> 36:23 [SPEAKER_02]: He is the best.
36:23 --> 36:26 [SPEAKER_02]: There's something about him that just speaks to my soul.
36:26 --> 36:32 [SPEAKER_02]: His calm demeanor, the way that he loves pushing religions on other people.
36:32 --> 36:34 [SPEAKER_02]: It just really tickles me.
36:34 --> 36:38 [SPEAKER_02]: And I think that we need to see more of him all the time.
36:38 --> 36:42 [SPEAKER_02]: And I hope that Sanderson makes three books around him.
36:43 --> 36:45 [SPEAKER_02]: That's my, say, it's real.
36:46 --> 36:50 [SPEAKER_01]: says it is great he's so funny in this next chapter I think it is.
36:52 --> 37:01 [SPEAKER_01]: Vin says to him do all Terrasman humble attendance give their masters as much lipis you do and he replies only the successful ones love it.
37:02 --> 37:07 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah he is the sesius Terras Terras person that we ever see.
37:08 --> 37:08 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
37:09 --> 37:23 [SPEAKER_02]: another great moment from him in these chapters is when he's standing behind Vin and Vin is like, dude, can you get off my shoulder like you need to move somewhere and he takes two steps off to the side and just stands right over here or right over here on the other side.
37:24 --> 37:24 [SPEAKER_02]: And then he just smirks.
37:25 --> 37:25 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
37:28 --> 37:28 [SPEAKER_01]: He's funny.
37:29 --> 37:34 [SPEAKER_01]: I think he's going to be a real fan favorite once we get to the show or the story of the movie.
37:34 --> 37:35 [SPEAKER_01]: We're doing a movie for Bensport.
37:35 --> 37:36 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
37:36 --> 37:39 [SPEAKER_02]: This is one where they have to get the casting right.
37:39 --> 37:39 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
37:41 --> 37:42 [SPEAKER_01]: They got to get us a giant.
37:42 --> 37:44 [SPEAKER_01]: They have to get us like a jelly giant.
37:44 --> 37:45 [SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
37:45 --> 37:50 [SPEAKER_01]: Like somebody who is just kind, someone who just feels like giant, but one.
37:51 --> 37:51 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
37:52 --> 37:57 [SPEAKER_00]: I don't think it would fit so well, but I have seen people fancass categories as the Lord ruler.
37:58 --> 38:00 [SPEAKER_00]: And to a point, I, I, I, I, I fuck with that.
38:01 --> 38:01 [SPEAKER_01]: All right.
38:01 --> 38:04 [SPEAKER_01]: Well, I watched John Wick this week for the first time.
38:06 --> 38:07 [SPEAKER_01]: I wasn't on him.
38:08 --> 38:09 [SPEAKER_01]: I really like him as John Wick.
38:09 --> 38:10 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't want him as the Lord Ruler.
38:11 --> 38:13 [SPEAKER_00]: I like to miss Johnny Silver and, too.
38:14 --> 38:17 [SPEAKER_00]: I just, I finished side repunked like a month ago and it was so big.
38:17 --> 38:18 [SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
38:19 --> 38:19 [SPEAKER_01]: Nice.
38:20 --> 38:23 [SPEAKER_01]: We got a lot more going on in chapter eight.
38:26 --> 38:30 [SPEAKER_01]: We have Aaron, do you want to read the Noble's section?
38:31 --> 38:31 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
38:31 --> 38:39 [SPEAKER_02]: So, at Lord Renews' estate, Kelsir leaves Vin with Cesar and speaks to the imposter Renew in private.
38:39 --> 38:46 [SPEAKER_02]: Cesar asks Vin if she believes in the divinity of the Lord ruler and offers her an alternative if she wishes.
38:47 --> 39:11 [SPEAKER_02]: Afterward, they regrouped to discuss the plan to plant Vin as the daughter of a country noble and a distant relative of Renew, says it agrees to train Vin as a noble and the group heads to bed and Calseira apologizes for excluding Vin from what he claims was just a personal conversation with Renew, nothing involving her, and alone with Vin says it tells her that Calseira is, quote, a very good man.
39:12 --> 39:14 [SPEAKER_02]: One of the best he's ever known.
39:17 --> 39:19 [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know how I feel about this.
39:19 --> 39:20 [SPEAKER_01]: He's just a good dude.
39:21 --> 39:22 [SPEAKER_01]: He's just a good dude.
39:24 --> 39:24 [SPEAKER_02]: Nothing wrong with him.
39:25 --> 39:29 [SPEAKER_01]: Look, I think we can see, there's a darknessing calzier, right?
39:30 --> 39:35 [SPEAKER_01]: But he is, I do think it's fair to say he's legitimately trying to do a good thing here.
39:35 --> 39:37 [SPEAKER_01]: He's legitimately trying to end the final empire.
39:38 --> 39:45 [SPEAKER_01]: And especially with the knowledge we have now, but I think even in general, like he is generally a good person.
39:46 --> 39:48 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna, I'm gonna stake that out here.
39:49 --> 39:54 [SPEAKER_00]: I think he's a good person, and this brings me to something from red rising, actually.
39:54 --> 39:56 [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if you've read it, John.
39:56 --> 39:57 [SPEAKER_00]: I have.
39:57 --> 39:57 [SPEAKER_00]: I have.
39:57 --> 40:07 [SPEAKER_00]: Aaron, I don't know if you've gotten to this quote, but I think it's, I think, Lauren, oh, wait, you probably have actually.
40:07 --> 40:14 [SPEAKER_00]: Lauren says to Darrow something along the lines of I fear a man who believes in good for he can excuse any evil.
40:17 --> 40:21 [SPEAKER_00]: get to a more peaceful world or depending on their angle.
40:22 --> 40:26 [SPEAKER_00]: And I do think that that matters in Kelsey's perspective too.
40:26 --> 40:28 [SPEAKER_02]: I think that's right.
40:28 --> 40:31 [SPEAKER_02]: I think that fits very well with him.
40:31 --> 40:33 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think that's right, too.
40:34 --> 40:36 [SPEAKER_01]: And we'll talk about that in a minute in the next chapter.
40:36 --> 40:40 [SPEAKER_01]: That there is something already brewing between him and Bidden.
40:41 --> 40:42 [SPEAKER_01]: When he's talking to the CZ.
40:43 --> 40:45 [SPEAKER_01]: So we get a lot of essays at here.
40:45 --> 40:50 [SPEAKER_01]: We get a lot of, you know, having a lot of focus on belief, right?
40:51 --> 40:53 [SPEAKER_01]: Do you believe that the Lord ruler is a slipper of infinity?
40:53 --> 40:55 [SPEAKER_01]: Do you believe that the Lord rulers of mortal?
40:56 --> 40:57 [SPEAKER_01]: Do you believe in the final empire?
40:57 --> 41:00 [SPEAKER_01]: It's important to say that what people believe.
41:03 --> 41:09 [SPEAKER_02]: It is, and I think that he has a much more nuanced view of it than someone like Kelsey or does where
41:10 --> 41:40 [SPEAKER_02]: Kelsey, you're here someone cursing on the Lord ruler's name and sees that as, oh, you're, you're just breathing life into this idea that he's a God, where it says it comes from a very different approach and says instead of just telling you not to believe in that anymore, let me offer you something that might fit you better, let me offer you something that is going to bring you genuine comfort where this other thing you believed has brought you nothing but fear and doubt in your life.
41:41 --> 41:47 [SPEAKER_01]: I think Saizad comes from a long line of wise people who approach problems with questions rather than answers.
41:48 --> 41:52 [SPEAKER_01]: And he, like I said, he goes, what do you believe in?
41:52 --> 41:56 [SPEAKER_01]: He doesn't say, you believe this, or you should believe this.
41:57 --> 42:03 [SPEAKER_01]: Even when he, in the next chapter, is offering all these belief systems, he's just giving you a menu, right?
42:03 --> 42:05 [SPEAKER_01]: Like he's not forcing anything on you.
42:06 --> 42:17 [SPEAKER_00]: is like, oh, no, okay, he's suggesting things that he thinks will fit them a bit better, more custom fitted religions, I guess, but he's not saying that they have to believe it.
42:17 --> 42:28 [SPEAKER_00]: I think that's a super important distinction, especially given his whole, like religious philosopher, maybe not background, but by peace, got going on.
42:28 --> 42:31 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and I want to get branding credit,
42:34 --> 42:44 [SPEAKER_01]: But this character being very faith and belief focused does not feel like a person pushing religiosity on the reader.
42:44 --> 42:48 [SPEAKER_01]: This feels like someone who is taking a very open view of religion and faith.
42:48 --> 42:50 [SPEAKER_01]: And I appreciate that.
42:50 --> 42:54 [SPEAKER_01]: I appreciate that he's not using this as a vehicle for his own personal beliefs.
42:54 --> 43:00 [SPEAKER_01]: But instead showing someone who is just wise and kind
43:05 --> 43:12 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I, you know, for my personal life, I am an atheist, but I do like learning about other religions.
43:12 --> 43:25 [SPEAKER_00]: And that's one of, to me, at least one of, says it's best qualities is that he teaches people about other religions that they just wouldn't know about because of the Lord ruler just purging as much as he can about them.
43:28 --> 43:29 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what I am.
43:29 --> 43:48 [SPEAKER_01]: I should probably call say that, but yeah, I I appreciate this openness and I appreciate that it's not just Vin right he just everybody he goes to he's like oh, what do you want I got I got let's see we got the the star based religions here we got the you know the martyr based religions here.
43:52 --> 43:52 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, pretty good
43:53 --> 44:21 [SPEAKER_01]: And we have this moment where Ben is storing food in napkins still, and that's what signals to renew like we got a lot of work to do on this girl growl cannot be at a ball storing food in napkins and says it says he's ready to roll up his sleeves and make it happen that's right says it is the guy it's uh it's the princess diaries right like we're redoing the princess diaries would say that instead pretty much I like this version better
44:22 --> 44:22 [SPEAKER_01]: me.
44:22 --> 44:23 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
44:23 --> 44:25 [SPEAKER_01]: The princess diary is a bang or movie man.
44:25 --> 44:26 [SPEAKER_01]: It is.
44:26 --> 44:27 [SPEAKER_01]: It really is.
44:28 --> 44:33 [SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't have season though, which as Aaron said, that's the best that's the best character.
44:34 --> 44:34 [SPEAKER_01]: That's like it.
44:34 --> 44:39 [SPEAKER_01]: Let's get a remake of Princess Diaries with season like a crossover event.
44:40 --> 44:41 [SPEAKER_02]: These apple adaptations do well.
44:41 --> 44:43 [SPEAKER_02]: I think we can demand anything we want.
44:44 --> 45:09 [SPEAKER_01]: Give us like a what if and then whoever plays Hoid can just tell the story for us as the narrator come on phone man Give us the movies All right, we got one more chapter, and we are ready to go into part two of the novel which is Rebels beneath a sky of ash One thing I want to mention before we go into this is we haven't really been talking about the
45:10 --> 45:18 [SPEAKER_01]: epigraphs of each paragraph, obviously, I have each chapter, the beginning sections that seem disconnected from the rest of the chapter.
45:19 --> 45:22 [SPEAKER_01]: I think it's really hard to talk about those without spoilers, if we know them.
45:23 --> 45:32 [SPEAKER_01]: And so, we should probably save those for a spoiler chapter, and then, sorry, it's a spoiler episode, which is something that we do every month for subscribers.
45:32 --> 45:38 [SPEAKER_01]: And then, at the end of the book, I think we can talk about what they all were about.
45:39 --> 46:06 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because Sanderson is so good at giving these little tidbits and he does it I think he does a lot more foreshadowing in Stormlight with them because he just grew more comfortable I think with this style, but like there's an abrograph in the way of kings that describe something from the final book of the series Like how do you how do you even come up with that that foreign advance?
46:07 --> 46:28 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he's an outlander, I mean, he's an outlander, I mean, he's an outlander, I mean, he's an outlander, I mean he's an outlander, I mean he's an outlander, I mean he's an outlander, I mean he's an outlander, I mean he's an outlander, I mean he's an outlander, I mean he's an outlander, I mean he's an outlander, I mean he's an outlander, I mean he's an outlander, I mean he's an outlander, I mean he's an outlander, I mean he's an outlander, I mean he's an outlander, I mean he's an outlander, I mean he's an outlander, I mean he's an outlander, I mean he's an outlander, I mean he's an outlander, I mean he's an outlander, I mean he
46:30 --> 46:38 [SPEAKER_00]: where like if he decides to take one character's arc a slightly different direction, it can still mean it can apply to character A instead of character B.
46:39 --> 46:43 [SPEAKER_00]: As long as he, you know, builds the story the right way.
46:43 --> 46:49 [SPEAKER_01]: To pen on the writer, I usually prefer gardener writers.
46:49 --> 46:51 [SPEAKER_01]: The writers like George R. Martin, Robert Jordan.
46:52 --> 46:55 [SPEAKER_01]: Jay R. Tolkien, I would consider a gardener writer like these characters.
46:55 --> 46:58 [SPEAKER_01]: These writers that can go with the story as they go.
47:00 --> 47:13 [SPEAKER_01]: Nobody does a climax like Sanders and because it's mapped out and that is something you lose often in gardening because people lose the threads and then it expands and then you don't get a book for 14 years So yeah, we love a Sandra Lange.
47:13 --> 47:20 [SPEAKER_00]: I mean he his his climaxes are so iconic that they get a special name Yeah, yeah
47:21 --> 47:22 [SPEAKER_01]: And we're going to get there.
47:22 --> 47:23 [SPEAKER_01]: We're going to get there.
47:23 --> 47:23 [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, we are.
47:23 --> 47:24 [SPEAKER_01]: A few more short episodes.
47:25 --> 47:29 [SPEAKER_01]: It's really not too many episodes per book for Miss Boren for Stormlight.
47:29 --> 47:32 [SPEAKER_01]: We're going to be spending quite a lot of time per book because they're bigger books.
47:33 --> 47:38 [SPEAKER_00]: I think the Oathbringer Sandrelange is two chapters, but I'm the audiobook.
47:38 --> 47:40 [SPEAKER_00]: It was like three straight hours.
47:41 --> 47:43 [SPEAKER_00]: I feel like those are going to just be one episode.
47:44 --> 47:47 [SPEAKER_00]: which is crazy to even think about.
47:47 --> 47:48 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
47:48 --> 47:53 [SPEAKER_00]: Stormlight's so dense, and every book is like 120 chapters, it's insane.
47:54 --> 48:02 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we're already on episode four of nine for the first book of Missborn.
48:02 --> 48:05 [SPEAKER_01]: So we, you know, five weeks from now, we're gonna have a sender Lance.
48:05 --> 48:06 [SPEAKER_01]: It's very exciting.
48:06 --> 48:07 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
48:07 --> 48:07 [SPEAKER_00]: So excited.
48:10 --> 48:10 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
48:10 --> 48:12 [SPEAKER_01]: Do you remember that you said that we used to?
48:13 --> 48:13 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
48:13 --> 48:14 [SPEAKER_01]: No.
48:15 --> 48:17 [SPEAKER_01]: Call of Richard Simmons for the Sandwich.
48:17 --> 48:18 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
48:18 --> 48:20 [SPEAKER_00]: There's going to be so much to talk about.
48:20 --> 48:22 [SPEAKER_00]: It's going to be just insane.
48:22 --> 48:23 [SPEAKER_00]: I cannot wait.
48:24 --> 48:28 [SPEAKER_01]: But first, we have a lot more to talk about this episode.
48:28 --> 48:32 [SPEAKER_01]: So Richard, since you're feeling chatting night, give us the sport battle.
48:33 --> 48:34 [SPEAKER_00]: My heads and the clouds and the stuff.
48:35 --> 48:45 [SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, a few months after the last chapter, Vin spars with Kelsey her in Felice, she's getting a little bit better using her powers, but Kelsey her does get the upper hand.
48:46 --> 48:55 [SPEAKER_00]: Kelsey her gives her the coin that they had their little push battle with as a keepsake and she starts to feel a bit more confident as a misborn.
48:56 --> 48:58 [SPEAKER_00]: However, she's not quite there on the noble side yet.
49:01 --> 49:05 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's, I almost had the arrested developments of going with me.
49:05 --> 49:06 [SPEAKER_01]: She was doing great as a noble.
49:07 --> 49:07 [SPEAKER_01]: She wasn't.
49:11 --> 49:15 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so we get this, yeah, we run Howard Brain.
49:16 --> 49:22 [SPEAKER_01]: We get this warning here that Vin gets from Kelsey here that she should not be picking fights with people bigger than her.
49:22 --> 49:24 [SPEAKER_01]: In terms of push battles, right?
49:24 --> 49:25 [SPEAKER_01]: She's got to be smarter than that.
49:26 --> 49:27 [SPEAKER_01]: I really like that.
49:28 --> 49:32 [SPEAKER_01]: She is learning to fight her own way and not Kelsey is way.
49:33 --> 49:36 [SPEAKER_01]: And I like that she's smart enough to figure that out herself.
49:36 --> 49:41 [SPEAKER_01]: Like, he gives her some hints, but she's the one developing her own style.
49:41 --> 49:43 [SPEAKER_01]: And I think it's gonna be really exciting to see her grow.
49:44 --> 49:56 [SPEAKER_01]: But we also see a little bit of lack of personal growth in terms of, she won't even really use her coins as freely as most best born, because she's still so afraid of falling back into a life poverty.
49:59 --> 50:00 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I...
50:02 --> 50:19 [SPEAKER_02]: Also, enjoyed the way that they talk about Vin having maybe a little bit more strength than someone her size should when they talk about this element, see that she has this instinctual understanding of how things work with some of the metals but not others.
50:19 --> 50:28 [SPEAKER_02]: So again, like you were saying earlier, people have their strengths and their weaknesses and these misborn are generally jack of all trade type of characters.
50:29 --> 50:37 [SPEAKER_02]: But Vin has her specialties, for sure, are ready at this point, even though she's just started training with these metals.
50:38 --> 50:39 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
50:40 --> 50:50 [SPEAKER_00]: It does feel a little bit like how a lot of showed in anime is where it's like, oh, the main character has a way it gets a better grasp on fundamentals.
50:50 --> 50:54 [SPEAKER_00]: It's a faster rate than most people do.
50:54 --> 50:57 [SPEAKER_00]: I don't have a problem with that trope, I actually love it, but you know,
50:59 --> 51:03 [SPEAKER_00]: Another comparison, I guess, to a different style of media.
51:03 --> 51:05 [SPEAKER_01]: Was that mean character hair and shown in anime?
51:05 --> 51:08 [SPEAKER_01]: Which is like a buggy from you, you know?
51:08 --> 51:09 [SPEAKER_01]: Is like the, yeah.
51:10 --> 51:14 [SPEAKER_01]: I mean character hair, everyone's got normal hair around him, and he's got spiked multicolored hair.
51:14 --> 51:18 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's a buggy and the goku hair.
51:18 --> 51:19 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
51:21 --> 51:22 [SPEAKER_01]: Uh, anyway.
51:22 --> 51:27 [SPEAKER_01]: So, yeah, I mean, I don't think a lot more to say here, we're going to watch her develop.
51:30 --> 51:38 [SPEAKER_01]: In VIN return us to the Renew manner and find Saised and a Scott Servant named Kosan, ready to give her a haircut.
51:39 --> 51:45 [SPEAKER_01]: With her trapped in the barber chair says Ed attempts to convert Vin to another dead religion from before the final empire.
51:46 --> 51:50 [SPEAKER_01]: He and the other keepers exist to restore lost knowledge after the fall of the Lord Ruler.
51:51 --> 52:01 [SPEAKER_01]: Cesar then quizzes Vin on the great houses and her fictional noble background and is impressed by her memory and dismayed by her lack of commitment to the bit.
52:02 --> 52:07 [SPEAKER_01]: Kelsey her returns to admire Cosson's work and speak to Cesar.
52:09 --> 52:10 [SPEAKER_01]: a lot of Lord drops here.
52:11 --> 52:21 [SPEAKER_01]: We have, say, Zed trying to convert her to trilligism, which, you know, you don't have to remember any of these religions, really.
52:21 --> 52:25 [SPEAKER_01]: He's, he's just going to rattle them off, and this is just him having fun.
52:25 --> 52:25 [SPEAKER_01]: This is just a bit.
52:26 --> 52:27 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
52:27 --> 52:34 [SPEAKER_00]: Trillism, I think, was pretty, it was, it was said, it was called trillism in the book.
52:35 --> 52:35 [SPEAKER_00]: I earned the audiobook.
52:35 --> 52:36 [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
52:37 --> 52:58 [SPEAKER_00]: Why it's spelled like that, but it's pronounced differently in that it could be that Michael Greenberg just couldn't pronounce it or something like who knows true true that that looks as a weird one, but I did like trellism a lot like the philosophy of it There's a good cars to be pronounced sorry you go ahead Aaron.
52:59 --> 53:04 [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I was just going to ask that was the stars in the sun religion right or was that a different one
53:06 --> 53:11 [SPEAKER_00]: I just remember like the court tenant being that you kind of have to work for yourself.
53:11 --> 53:13 [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, it is the stars on the sun.
53:13 --> 53:23 [SPEAKER_01]: It's that the stars were the thousand eyes of Trell and then he had like an evil moon brother.
53:23 --> 53:26 [SPEAKER_01]: Sorry, an evil sun brother who had to shine brighter because he only had one eye.
53:28 --> 53:28 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, fun.
53:29 --> 53:29 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
53:30 --> 53:30 [SPEAKER_01]: Fun.
53:32 --> 53:35 [SPEAKER_01]: Um, he knows five hundred sixty-two religions.
53:38 --> 53:38 [SPEAKER_01]: Fun.
53:39 --> 53:42 [SPEAKER_02]: Well, don't forget, some of these are just sects.
53:42 --> 53:48 [SPEAKER_02]: You know, they could be Protestant variations of Trilogism for all we know.
53:48 --> 53:48 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
53:49 --> 53:53 [SPEAKER_00]: I do think that there's a point later, and I feel like this isn't like a spoiler spoiler.
53:53 --> 54:00 [SPEAKER_00]: I think he says that he has 562 counting different sects, but it's the actual numbers
54:02 --> 54:06 [SPEAKER_00]: It's still in a lot of combines, which is still an insane amount, don't get me wrong.
54:06 --> 54:16 [SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's that it's great that Brandon does probably give us five to ten of a book just to have like a little, you know, says it has like a line or two about it.
54:16 --> 54:19 [SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's a good world building for sure, which is of course.
54:21 --> 54:23 [SPEAKER_00]: He's in his bag on World Building every book.
54:24 --> 54:24 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
54:24 --> 54:37 [SPEAKER_02]: Speaking of World Building, we get the proper way to address the Terrasman, which is VAT, VAT, VAT, and I don't think they ever bring this up again as far as the other day.
54:38 --> 54:39 [SPEAKER_02]: You're so overdraft.
54:39 --> 54:40 [SPEAKER_02]: Goodbye.
54:40 --> 54:40 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
54:40 --> 54:41 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
54:41 --> 54:52 [SPEAKER_00]: And honestly, I think they do that with the with the 10 great houses because between era one and era two, I remember like four of these house names.
54:52 --> 54:53 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
54:53 --> 54:53 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
54:54 --> 55:00 [SPEAKER_01]: But I appreciate that because I think it would be kind of exhausting to remember all 10 all the time.
55:01 --> 55:01 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
55:02 --> 55:03 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't even
55:05 --> 55:09 [SPEAKER_00]: I don't remember anything passed we call on our list.
55:10 --> 55:12 [SPEAKER_01]: Well, don't worry about memorizing those house dams.
55:12 --> 55:15 [SPEAKER_01]: We will bring them up as we need to, as we go forward.
55:16 --> 55:24 [SPEAKER_01]: But we do know that Vin is going to be a vet renewed daughter of hardrin and filet from Chekhov in the Western dominance.
55:24 --> 55:25 [SPEAKER_01]: They sell wool.
55:26 --> 55:27 [SPEAKER_01]: Don't forget it, they sell wool.
55:28 --> 55:29 [SPEAKER_00]: Very important.
55:30 --> 55:31 [SPEAKER_00]: And fancy dies.
55:32 --> 55:34 [SPEAKER_00]: I can't forget about those fancy dogs, right?
55:34 --> 55:35 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm so sorry.
55:36 --> 55:37 [SPEAKER_01]: So sorry, fake family.
55:38 --> 55:40 [SPEAKER_01]: I forgot your second main export.
55:43 --> 55:45 [SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, we got a lot of good stuff here.
55:45 --> 55:49 [SPEAKER_01]: I really like the whole bit of, says it's like, oh, good season, the barber chair now.
55:50 --> 55:51 [SPEAKER_01]: I can do whatever I want.
55:53 --> 56:01 [SPEAKER_01]: And I like that Kelsey here's being really careful about what he lets them around because this next part, which Aaron, I'm gonna ask you to read.
56:02 --> 56:05 [SPEAKER_01]: is where I think we start to see a different side of Calsear.
56:06 --> 56:06 [SPEAKER_01]: Mm-hmm.
56:07 --> 56:07 [SPEAKER_01]: Go for it.
56:07 --> 56:09 [SPEAKER_02]: And is she ready?
56:09 --> 56:13 [SPEAKER_02]: Kelsey asks, says it about Vin's progress and asks if she's ready.
56:14 --> 56:16 [SPEAKER_02]: Well, says it is impressed with her abilities.
56:16 --> 56:19 [SPEAKER_02]: He does not know if she's ready to infiltrate the nobles.
56:20 --> 56:29 [SPEAKER_02]: Kelsey explains about a lack of time and says it suggests that Vin trained with the listings to develop more than her current mastery of four metals.
56:36 --> 56:44 [SPEAKER_01]: What I didn't write here that I should have written is that Kelsey here is really flipping about like, yeah, it's said that she got in with us, but she's definitely gonna hang with us.
56:44 --> 56:47 [SPEAKER_01]: Like, yeah, she dead as much as we are.
56:47 --> 56:53 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, which in Kelsey's defense, and I don't make a defensive Kelsey very often.
56:55 --> 57:04 [SPEAKER_02]: I think that eventually she was going to be found out as a missedborn by the inquisitors and killed as a street, birch and anyways.
57:05 --> 57:10 [SPEAKER_02]: So I think one way or another, she was in danger.
57:10 --> 57:15 [SPEAKER_00]: And it's okay if she's in danger to do something maybe a little bit good for the world.
57:16 --> 57:31 [SPEAKER_00]: we did see as Aaron was saying like she would have been that 100% chapter two or chapter three whatever after the inquisitor would have started chasing them down if Kelsey or hadn't intervened she would have been done.
57:33 --> 57:39 [SPEAKER_01]: I think what feels kind of decay about it is, there's clearly a manipulation here, right?
57:40 --> 57:45 [SPEAKER_01]: And he talks about, you know, gives freely given.
57:45 --> 57:46 [SPEAKER_01]: I'll just teach you this stuff.
57:46 --> 57:49 [SPEAKER_01]: If you can go on your way if you want, I'll give you your boxings.
57:50 --> 57:53 [SPEAKER_01]: You know, we'll, we'll part ways and we'll be fine.
57:53 --> 57:55 [SPEAKER_01]: And they're not gives freely given, right?
57:55 --> 57:58 [SPEAKER_01]: That misborn cloak comes with the responsibility of helping keels here.
57:59 --> 58:01 [SPEAKER_01]: And that's why it feels a little manipulative
58:05 --> 58:25 [SPEAKER_00]: not great not great doesn't feel kosher i would say yeah cuz he knows he knows that even though she it she did grow up on the streets she's going to feel at least a little indebted to him and she's going to want to learn how to use her powers better regardless of if she stays with them because they give her an upper hand yeah
58:26 --> 58:31 [SPEAKER_02]: And I do wonder if Kelsir would really let Vin walk away.
58:31 --> 58:36 [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, we know that someone like Docson or him, he would let them walk away.
58:36 --> 58:38 [SPEAKER_02]: He trusts these people with his life.
58:39 --> 58:40 [SPEAKER_02]: He doesn't know Vin all that well.
58:41 --> 58:47 [SPEAKER_02]: So knowing what she knows if she really did want to get out, would he actually allow that?
58:49 --> 58:50 [SPEAKER_01]: It's a good question.
58:50 --> 58:51 [SPEAKER_01]: I like to think he would.
58:52 --> 58:55 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't think he's at the level of,
58:56 --> 58:58 [SPEAKER_01]: you know, just killing people just to kill them.
58:59 --> 59:00 [SPEAKER_01]: Just to be slightly more safe.
59:02 --> 59:04 [SPEAKER_01]: I think he knows that she could keep a secret.
59:05 --> 59:07 [SPEAKER_01]: You know, she's pretty close, mouth even with him.
59:08 --> 59:08 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
59:10 --> 59:17 [SPEAKER_01]: And I think, you know, part of the self-serving nature of training her is teaching her to burn copper is gonna teach her to knock at cot.
59:19 --> 59:25 [SPEAKER_01]: And so therefore she won't end up hopefully in the still ministry's interrogation chambers.
59:26 --> 59:27 [SPEAKER_02]: absolutely.
59:28 --> 59:38 [SPEAKER_01]: I realized it'd been a looting to chapter 10 pretty much this whole episode because I accidentally outlined it with the rest of this before and I keep talking about Breeze talking about manipulation.
59:39 --> 59:40 [SPEAKER_01]: He's got a lot of great quotes in that chapter.
59:40 --> 59:43 [SPEAKER_01]: We'll get there next episode.
59:43 --> 59:44 [SPEAKER_01]: That's not a big spoiler.
59:44 --> 59:48 [SPEAKER_01]: Just, you know, Breeze already talked about that earlier in the in these sections.
59:49 --> 59:52 [SPEAKER_01]: But just keep in mind that's a nice teaser for next time.
59:53 --> 59:53 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
59:54 --> 01:00:08 [SPEAKER_00]: And it is, it is very interesting that his personality is so suited to his almancy, like it makes you wonder and we don't get any confirmation in any book in the series.
01:00:09 --> 01:00:16 [SPEAKER_00]: Well, it does make you wonder if their, their personalities are shaped a little bit more by the metals that they're able to control.
01:00:24 --> 01:00:29 [SPEAKER_01]: Why are keepers so OP when say Zed seems to be a very peaceful guy?
01:00:31 --> 01:00:45 [SPEAKER_00]: That's something that we gotta tease from Kelsey or here is like yeah keepers are scary when they're angry We don't know but we will certainly find out in the next I think next week Yeah, maybe
01:00:47 --> 01:01:12 [SPEAKER_02]: haven't written that far ahead yet so we'll see yeah all we've seen is jolly says that so we really don't have a baseline for hangry says that but you really don't want to see him like that I mean I kind of do I like when sazy gets mad could not why he gets mad because that's not like it's always horrible stuff so his Mark Ruffalo gonna play sazy that we're at about
01:01:18 --> 01:01:24 [SPEAKER_01]: I think that would be awful just to be just to be clear before you get in the YouTube comments that would that would be absolutely horrendous.
01:01:25 --> 01:01:27 [SPEAKER_00]: Who's Tom Holland going to play in the Cosmic?
01:01:27 --> 01:01:28 [SPEAKER_00]: Oh my god.
01:01:28 --> 01:01:30 [SPEAKER_00]: Tom Holland and Zendaya.
01:01:30 --> 01:01:31 [SPEAKER_01]: And that's all we got today folks.
01:01:32 --> 01:01:36 [SPEAKER_01]: We got, you know, we do a weekly show here, cause me a corner.
01:01:37 --> 01:01:41 [SPEAKER_01]: You can get episode a week, we cover about 50 to 70 pages.
01:01:43 --> 01:01:47 [SPEAKER_01]: And we'll let you know the books full schedule every time we start a new book.
01:01:47 --> 01:01:51 [SPEAKER_01]: You can get that on Fable, which is a free app where you can join our book club.
01:01:51 --> 01:01:57 [SPEAKER_01]: We'll also post a link in the show notes to a way to look at the book schedule without sounding up for anything.
01:01:58 --> 01:02:01 [SPEAKER_01]: Also, the weekly pods are and we'll remain public and free with ads.

01:02:30 --> 01:02:35 [SPEAKER_01]: We're recording this well in advance, so that's why we don't have exactly an idea of which
01:02:39 --> 01:02:52 [SPEAKER_02]: And if you want to get in touch with us, you can send an email over to Cosmere at TheLoreHounds.com or head to TheLoreHounds Discord server, linked in the show notes to get into real-time conversation with us and with other listeners.
01:02:53 --> 01:03:01 [SPEAKER_02]: And next week, we are going to be reading Mist or in the final Empire chapters 10 through 15 if you guys are keeping up with us at home.
01:03:02 --> 01:03:02 [SPEAKER_01]: Very cool.
01:03:02 --> 01:03:04 [SPEAKER_01]: All right, everybody.
01:03:04 --> 01:03:06 [SPEAKER_01]: It's been fun and we'll see you next episode.
