[00:00:00] Well, no, you're trying.
[00:00:02] Why not, Brian?
[00:00:04] Hello, Properly Howard fans.
[00:00:21] Howard is back.
[00:00:22] Well, no, that's a lie.
[00:00:24] We're not back.
[00:00:25] We're almost back with the next season of Properly Howard.
[00:00:29] Sometime in the next month, for sure.
[00:00:30] In the meantime, Steve and I both enjoyed the season finale of The Penguin quite a lot.
[00:00:35] We had different reactions to the season as a whole, but today you get to hear our off-season coverage of that finale.
[00:00:42] Major spoilers, so be careful moving forward.
[00:00:46] Make sure you check out everything that's happening at the Lorehounds.
[00:00:49] We'll Shift Dust will be covering Silo.
[00:00:51] I'm especially excited about their coverage of Dune Prophecy.
[00:00:55] So check out the Lorehounds for that coverage.
[00:00:58] Okay, here is stand-up comic Steve Osborne.
[00:01:03] Do you regret forcing me to watch this show?
[00:01:06] So the show that's doing very, very well for both critics and viewers, let me guess,
[00:01:11] the contrarian is not a fan.
[00:01:14] Holy balls.
[00:01:15] Stop the press.
[00:01:20] I don't feel like a contrarian.
[00:01:22] Well, you for sure are.
[00:01:24] The fact that you're saying you aren't is kind of a contrarian stance.
[00:01:28] I feel like I might be right and my opinion might be correct.
[00:01:32] So the fact that you are universally thought of.
[00:01:35] And it's possible that I'm the only one.
[00:01:37] It is possible that I'm the only one.
[00:01:39] You're universally thought of as a contrarian, but somehow you say, no, you're not.
[00:01:44] Hmm.
[00:01:44] Actually.
[00:01:47] Let me explain to you what a contrarian is.
[00:01:49] Can we talk about the Latin contraros?
[00:01:54] Now, I want you to know, I quite liked the finale.
[00:02:02] And no, I think the finale was amazing.
[00:02:05] I really dug the finale.
[00:02:08] And I was watching it with my daughter, Vanessa.
[00:02:12] She asked, like, should I like not watch this with you?
[00:02:16] Because maybe I should watch the entire show.
[00:02:18] And I was like, nah.
[00:02:20] You're going to catch on pretty quick.
[00:02:23] Just sit down and watch this with me.
[00:02:25] And she really enjoyed it.
[00:02:26] And I really enjoyed it.
[00:02:27] And then she said, now I kind of wish I watched the whole show.
[00:02:32] And I said, you know what?
[00:02:35] I don't think you needed to.
[00:02:38] And so that was going to be my first question to you.
[00:02:40] So after, after do you, do you feel regret?
[00:02:44] My first question to you was, do you think this season finale could work by itself?
[00:02:53] I would be saying, who are these people?
[00:02:56] No, you wouldn't.
[00:02:57] You already know who the penguin is.
[00:02:59] You already know who the penguin is.
[00:03:01] You already kind of have a sense of the cityscape of Gotham.
[00:03:05] You know what's going on.
[00:03:07] It's not like the bat signal at the end would have confused you or anything like that.
[00:03:11] Why would I have cared about Victor's death at all?
[00:03:15] Why would I have cared about the mother turning on him at all?
[00:03:21] Why would we?
[00:03:22] It's a good point.
[00:03:23] I don't think you understand how series work.
[00:03:27] I think if I was going to.
[00:03:30] Have you ever watched a series backwards?
[00:03:32] I don't think so.
[00:03:33] Here's what I would suggest.
[00:03:35] If you are listening to this and you're listening to our little dispute and you're thinking, ah, maybe I didn't want to.
[00:03:43] I don't know if I want to watch this or not, but I am a Batman film fan.
[00:03:48] I would say watch the first episode.
[00:03:51] Watch the last episode.
[00:03:52] You're going to get it.
[00:03:55] You'll probably enjoy it.
[00:03:57] You'll probably enjoy it.
[00:03:58] You're not going to get it.
[00:04:02] Two crime families were taken down, right?
[00:04:06] In order for the lackey to rise to the top.
[00:04:09] There's no way watching the first episode and the last episode helps you understand that.
[00:04:15] I think that that was kind of inevitable.
[00:04:18] You know that someone's going to become a supervillain, so he's not going to be like some flunky forever.
[00:04:26] He's on the come up.
[00:04:28] None of that was sort of surprising.
[00:04:30] Here's the exception I'm going to take to you.
[00:04:32] I feel like you're kind of out of pocket in this one here, if I may use the parlance of our times.
[00:04:38] So you come in and you say, we all know who the Penguin is.
[00:04:41] And if I had asked you this before this series, who's the Penguin, you would have either given me some sort of a mishmash of Burgess Meredith's version of the Penguin, which you have already gone on record saying, I didn't watch that show.
[00:04:55] But you feel like you have a sense of who that person is based solely on kind of a glimpses and clips and whatever.
[00:05:03] And then you also would combine that with Danny DeVito's Penguin.
[00:05:08] By the way, those two versions of the Penguin are pretty different.
[00:05:12] Burgess Meredith did not drool black goo.
[00:05:15] There was no eating of raw fish.
[00:05:19] He wasn't a deformed creature.
[00:05:21] So then you get to this one, and this one is neither of those two, other than the fact that they wobble and they're called the Penguin.
[00:05:30] So I do take exception with this notion of like, ah, you know who the Penguin is.
[00:05:36] No, I don't.
[00:05:37] Not this one.
[00:05:39] You didn't know based on those other two.
[00:05:41] And since I'm not, I am a confess, not a comic reader, I can't really tell you much about his origin, how this one compares to some of the iterations.
[00:05:49] But I do know that this is a, this is this representation of it the same way that the Riddler is no like, the Riddler from the Batman is not at all like Jim Carrey is the Riddler.
[00:06:01] And not at all like Frank Gorshin's the Riddler.
[00:06:04] Yet he's still the Riddler.
[00:06:05] So I don't think it's a fair statement to go like, oh, well, here we go again.
[00:06:09] The Joker, you might have, you might have some, you know, discussion points about that.
[00:06:15] But again, I think we've seen a lot of different iterations of what the Joker is.
[00:06:19] So I do think that this Penguin requires a bit of, because what you saw in the Batman, he was like this club owner.
[00:06:28] He was kind of, you know, he was a wobbly wannabe.
[00:06:32] And for him to turn into a supervillain, you do need those steps.
[00:06:37] And you do need to go through and see what does he, what does he have to do to get there?
[00:06:41] And then the movie, the show did a lot of really good things to get you to sort of maybe find him sympathetic.
[00:06:48] And then they would show, no, no, this guy is, he's more than a rascal.
[00:06:53] He's, he's, he's awful.
[00:06:55] All right.
[00:06:56] So I want to make two points.
[00:06:57] Which I don't think we saw very well.
[00:06:58] I mean, and you can't tell me Burgess Meredith's Penguin was the kind of, oh, I bet you he would choke out one of his closest allies.
[00:07:05] No, he would go, rah, rah, rah, rah, rah, with a monocle.
[00:07:09] So I'd like to make two points.
[00:07:13] The first is that as the editor of this podcast, I want you to know most of what you just said is not going to make it to the final cut.
[00:07:23] Right.
[00:07:23] So.
[00:07:24] Well, it would be important.
[00:07:25] It would be much like your show.
[00:07:27] You can, you can take out a lot of that middle and get the gist of what you're talking about.
[00:07:31] Okay.
[00:07:32] The second thing I'd like to say, as long as it proves your point, you do what you got to do.
[00:07:35] The second thing I'd like to say is that I knew from the title sequence, I knew from the announcement of the show that by the end of the show, the guy's going to be a major player in Gotham City.
[00:07:56] He's going to be, he's going to rise to power in such a way that he's going to be able to menace Batman eventually.
[00:08:02] Okay.
[00:08:03] So what you're saying is no point in watching a movie called Batman because you're like, I think the show's already, or the movie's already telling you there's going to be Batman.
[00:08:10] What I'm saying is that I kind of knew, I kind of knew what the Joker's deal was.
[00:08:18] I think it's fair to say that we all knew what the Joker or the, the, the penguins deal was.
[00:08:24] If you can't even figure out which supervillain you watch, I don't feel that you're qualified to critique the show.
[00:08:29] It's possible.
[00:08:31] It's possible.
[00:08:32] Let me say this.
[00:08:33] I loved this finale and I think it could work as a standalone piece.
[00:08:38] And I almost think it's kind of necessary.
[00:08:42] If, if of course, you know, when, when the Joker winds up in the next Batman movie, I kind of feel like if you don't, if you didn't see at least the season finale, you are not going to enjoy that nearly as much.
[00:08:57] Are you talking about the penguins still?
[00:08:58] Or are you talking about the Joker?
[00:09:01] Let me try to say this again.
[00:09:05] This isn't a pronoun thing.
[00:09:07] This is a, put some respect on the supervillain's names.
[00:09:09] I do feel like if you walk into the next Batman movie and you had not seen at least the season finale of this show, you're not going to enjoy that movie as much.
[00:09:21] That is my sense.
[00:09:23] My sense is that the people who enjoyed this series are going to be in a better position to enjoy the next Matt Reeves Batman.
[00:09:34] Would you agree with that?
[00:09:35] Well, right.
[00:09:36] I think we talked about that in the beginning was that this gives you the ability to not have to do all of this character building in, in the new, the next Batman.
[00:09:46] And I think we, at least I said that I, I, I'm hoping that that means that we'll get more Batman development because most of the time the movies spend more effort trying to develop the villains.
[00:09:57] And in this case, you got to do all of that and then let the Batman film maybe, you know, hopefully just focus on Batman.
[00:10:04] Sure.
[00:10:05] So this is something of a gamble.
[00:10:07] It feels like for the sort of the DC reboot.
[00:10:12] Because.
[00:10:14] It shows gotten a lot of accolades, like a lot of people are watching, but I would say that millions, millions more are going to watch a Batman film that are going to watch this, this mini series.
[00:10:28] So how much weight do you want to put on an HBO series like this?
[00:10:35] If the end goal is that you want people to enjoy your popcorn Batman movie.
[00:10:41] So it's worth it.
[00:10:43] You know, I, I probably wouldn't have watched this show unless you wanted me to.
[00:10:46] And I'm glad that I did just for the finale.
[00:10:50] I think the whole thing was the whole experience was worth the finale for me and yet a little bit of a gamble.
[00:10:58] Well, gambling and gamble for, for what?
[00:11:01] I guess that's what I'm having a hard time.
[00:11:03] Like who, who is, who stands to lose in this, in a gamble?
[00:11:07] A gamble suggests that there's a risk and, and I mean, you're not risking Batman, the, the, the Batman movies are not.
[00:11:14] Well, let me, let me, let me do an analogy here.
[00:11:16] Okay. So, um, I enjoyed the first season of Daredevil and did you ever watch Daredevil?
[00:11:24] Uh, I watched quite a bit of it and then just kind of stopped.
[00:11:27] Yeah, yeah, me too.
[00:11:28] So I watched the first season of Daredevil and it was, I watched enough of it so that when it, when Daredevil shows up in, in the Spider-Man movies, I got a little thrill.
[00:11:39] Oh, hooray. They did a little stunt casting for me.
[00:11:42] That's a little bit of fan service that I really appreciated.
[00:11:45] All right. So that's, that's fine.
[00:11:47] For my daughter who hadn't watched Daredevil, she was watching Spider-Man.
[00:11:51] She heard the oohs and ahs in the movie theater.
[00:11:55] And then later on, she had to ask me like, why, why, what was the thing about the, the blind lawyer?
[00:12:01] And I, and I could tell her what it was.
[00:12:03] So that's fine.
[00:12:04] That's it.
[00:12:05] This is like what?
[00:12:06] Like two minutes about that movie.
[00:12:07] But if this whole next movie is built on the, on the, on the padded fat shoulders of the penguin, I wonder if you're taking too big of a gamble that you're leaving too much of your audience behind for that film.
[00:12:24] Well, my understanding is that the penguin is slated to be maybe within five to six scenes in the second film.
[00:12:32] All right.
[00:12:33] That's interesting.
[00:12:34] So let's guess 10 minutes of screen time or something.
[00:12:38] Yeah.
[00:12:39] How much screen time did he have in the first one?
[00:12:40] Right.
[00:12:41] So I think, I think, I think the key is you're building the, this is, this is not just a penguin building, but it's a, it's a Gotham building.
[00:12:48] Right.
[00:12:48] It's, it's building, it's building the world that Batman's going up against.
[00:12:54] So I think it is on one hand, it would be a, if you don't have any access to the series and you don't do any research on it.
[00:13:02] And the penguin from the first film is the last memory of him.
[00:13:08] And then you watch the second one and now he's this like major, you know, uh, mob player, if not like the mob player, given the elimination of the rest of the, of the, uh, of the other families, then I would be like, well, how do we get there?
[00:13:23] Right.
[00:13:24] Um, and would you rather now, again, you don't, you didn't really like the Batman.
[00:13:28] So kind of, maybe I'm asking the wrong person, but assuming that you did like it enough to watch, to want it to, to be interested in watching the second one, would you, would you rather they spend a good chunk of screen time building up the backstory of the penguin at, at the expense of maybe whatever else is going on or, or Batman's development?
[00:13:51] Or would you rather sort of just have those blanks filled in, in another medium?
[00:13:56] Yeah.
[00:13:57] So I think, I, I think you've convinced me on this.
[00:14:00] I think, I think you're right that it probably helps not burdening the next movie with the penguins backstory.
[00:14:08] So you can spend more time on the Batman or more likely spend more time on the Joker's rise to power or something.
[00:14:17] My understanding is the Joker's not going to be a major player until the last film in the trilogy.
[00:14:24] Hmm.
[00:14:24] Hmm.
[00:14:25] Who's, who's going to be the, the big baddie opposite of the bat?
[00:14:31] Well, no, I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
[00:14:35] See, I think, I think from a marketing standpoint, I think they're doing a really good job here.
[00:14:39] If you're not going to have the next Batman out until 2026, I mean, that's another full year going to go by.
[00:14:45] And, you know, might've been wise to have done this maybe next year, but I think it does help sort of bridge those gaps.
[00:14:53] And it's kind of a creative way to do it.
[00:14:54] I mean, we've talked about the Marvel, the Marvel world is, I think a little unique in the sense that like I've talked about, I don't watch the Marvel series.
[00:15:01] And so I did go into some of these movies going, I don't know who this person is.
[00:15:04] And the movie assumes you already do right now with this, you have, you have the penguin, one singular character.
[00:15:15] And you may, to your point, you may not necessarily have to make that huge leap because it's not like he's got like superpowers now out of nowhere or something.
[00:15:25] He's, he's, he's risen to power and you can maybe just sort of suspend that, that progression.
[00:15:31] If you just watch the second movie, my guess is that most people that go to watch this movie are going to have some access to this series.
[00:15:39] And I think the other, maybe not so much a gamble, but, and it's kind of, it may be a bit of a gamble, but it's a little bit of a test is to find out how dark can we go with a Batman movie?
[00:15:52] Deadpool and Wolverine and all the Deadpool movies have shown us that, that there is an audience.
[00:15:57] You can still make a rated R blockbuster superhero movie, but it takes a lot of guts to do it with like a really popular mainstream character.
[00:16:07] Now this is a very rated R series.
[00:16:11] It's very violent.
[00:16:12] The language is such that it's, it's very coarse.
[00:16:15] So it's an interesting thing.
[00:16:17] And this is what, like the number three, I think all time HBO show in terms of viewership or something.
[00:16:23] So let me say something about this.
[00:16:24] I feel like this show is as dark as anything I've ever watched.
[00:16:29] And I'm talking like true detective.
[00:16:31] I'm talking like, you know, house of the dragon, whatever it, this is a,
[00:16:36] this is a dark, dark show.
[00:16:40] And I'm up for it.
[00:16:42] You know, I like, I like these kinds of shows.
[00:16:44] I did not expect the show to be as dark as it was.
[00:16:48] No, not me neither.
[00:16:49] I was, I was, every, every episode I was still kind of like, this is a Batman joint.
[00:17:04] Okay.
[00:17:19] Okay.
[00:17:20] and marketplace integration,
[00:17:21] can you go over Instagram, eBay and Co.
[00:17:24] and sell and sell.
[00:17:25] New goals to achieve
[00:17:26] was never so easy.

[00:17:41] Just

[00:17:43] and
[00:17:43] make
[00:17:44] made for Germany
[00:17:47] powered by Shopify
[00:17:51] So,
[00:17:52] well let me ask you this.
[00:17:53] My little
[00:17:54] statement that you could just watch
[00:17:56] the season finale
[00:17:57] and basically get the idea
[00:17:59] and then move into the next film.
[00:18:01] I think what you would be missing
[00:18:03] if you did that
[00:18:05] is
[00:18:05] you'd be missing
[00:18:07] the Sovia Gigante
[00:18:09] story.
[00:18:10] You would not understand
[00:18:11] why it is so
[00:18:14] utterly hopeless
[00:18:15] to see her back in Arkham
[00:18:17] at the end.
[00:18:17] And I feel like
[00:18:18] this story is
[00:18:20] as much about
[00:18:21] her becoming
[00:18:21] a supervillain
[00:18:23] as it is about
[00:18:23] the penguin
[00:18:24] becoming a supervillain.
[00:18:25] Yeah.
[00:18:25] There's no
[00:18:26] scene in
[00:18:27] this show
[00:18:28] that is more
[00:18:29] supervillainy
[00:18:30] than her
[00:18:33] hypnotizing
[00:18:33] his mother
[00:18:34] into a situation
[00:18:36] where
[00:18:37] instead of just
[00:18:37] killing them
[00:18:38] gets the mother
[00:18:39] and son
[00:18:39] to turn
[00:18:40] on each other
[00:18:42] to the point
[00:18:43] where
[00:18:44] the mother
[00:18:46] calls him
[00:18:47] the devil
[00:18:47] and shanks him
[00:18:48] in the gut.
[00:18:49] Like
[00:18:49] to me
[00:18:50] that's some
[00:18:51] super
[00:18:52] villain
[00:18:52] nonsense
[00:18:53] right there.
[00:18:54] And
[00:18:55] I almost feel like
[00:18:56] if they don't use her
[00:18:57] in the movie
[00:18:59] I'll be disappointed.
[00:19:01] Right.
[00:19:01] And I think that
[00:19:02] that's key.
[00:19:03] I don't
[00:19:03] because I
[00:19:03] especially with the
[00:19:05] letter from
[00:19:05] Selina Kyle.
[00:19:09] which was interesting
[00:19:10] to me
[00:19:11] because I
[00:19:12] I was not
[00:19:13] expecting
[00:19:14] the return
[00:19:15] of
[00:19:17] Catwoman
[00:19:18] and
[00:19:21] I'm wondering
[00:19:22] if
[00:19:23] the fact
[00:19:24] that she gets
[00:19:25] that note
[00:19:26] means that I
[00:19:26] should expect
[00:19:27] her return
[00:19:28] in the next film
[00:19:29] or
[00:19:30] if that's
[00:19:32] their way
[00:19:32] of saying
[00:19:32] okay
[00:19:33] we could do
[00:19:34] a spinoff
[00:19:35] with
[00:19:36] those two
[00:19:38] in another
[00:19:39] HBO series
[00:19:39] and we're not
[00:19:40] we should not
[00:19:41] expect
[00:19:42] the return
[00:19:43] of Selina
[00:19:44] in the next film.
[00:19:46] And wouldn't that
[00:19:47] be an interesting
[00:19:49] move
[00:19:50] is
[00:19:52] to see
[00:19:53] like
[00:19:53] an actual
[00:19:54] Batman series
[00:19:57] and then you have
[00:19:58] Batman movies
[00:19:59] that are
[00:19:59] separate
[00:20:00] and like
[00:20:00] and Batman
[00:20:01] never shows up
[00:20:01] in the
[00:20:02] or it could have
[00:20:04] been a chance
[00:20:05] to
[00:20:07] ultimately
[00:20:07] by showing
[00:20:08] the Bat
[00:20:08] signal
[00:20:09] and
[00:20:10] and making
[00:20:10] a reference
[00:20:11] to Selina
[00:20:11] Kyle
[00:20:11] it is
[00:20:12] kind of
[00:20:12] a way
[00:20:13] to just
[00:20:13] maybe
[00:20:14] remind
[00:20:15] folks
[00:20:15] what's
[00:20:15] going on
[00:20:16] here
[00:20:16] because
[00:20:18] it's
[00:20:18] kind of
[00:20:18] easy
[00:20:19] to
[00:20:19] you know
[00:20:20] for me
[00:20:20] because I
[00:20:21] really did
[00:20:21] enjoy the
[00:20:22] series
[00:20:22] to kind
[00:20:22] of go
[00:20:23] every once in a
[00:20:23] while
[00:20:23] go like
[00:20:24] so Batman
[00:20:24] is he
[00:20:25] on an
[00:20:26] ayahuasca
[00:20:26] journey
[00:20:26] right now
[00:20:27] like
[00:20:27] what's
[00:20:27] going on
[00:20:30] right
[00:20:30] I think
[00:20:31] it's
[00:20:32] interesting
[00:20:32] it's
[00:20:32] like
[00:20:33] you're
[00:20:34] almost
[00:20:34] focusing
[00:20:34] on
[00:20:35] Crown
[00:20:35] Point
[00:20:35] right
[00:20:36] right
[00:20:37] which is
[00:20:37] supposed
[00:20:38] it's
[00:20:38] kind
[00:20:38] of
[00:20:38] in
[00:20:38] the
[00:20:39] show
[00:20:39] you're
[00:20:39] supposed
[00:20:39] to
[00:20:40] think
[00:20:40] like
[00:20:40] it's
[00:20:41] kind
[00:20:41] of
[00:21:07] yes
[00:21:08] and no
[00:21:09] it did
[00:21:10] feel
[00:21:11] at one
[00:21:12] moment
[00:21:12] it feels
[00:21:12] like
[00:21:13] fan
[00:21:13] service
[00:21:13] but on
[00:21:13] the other
[00:21:14] hand
[00:21:14] I also
[00:21:14] was like
[00:21:15] okay
[00:21:15] well
[00:21:16] good
[00:21:17] Batman
[00:21:20] I
[00:21:20] was
[00:21:21] thrilled
[00:21:21] I was
[00:21:21] thrilled
[00:21:22] by it
[00:21:22] and it
[00:21:23] could
[00:21:23] just
[00:21:23] be
[00:21:23] like
[00:21:24] I
[00:21:24] was
[00:21:25] waiting
[00:21:25] for
[00:21:26] a
[00:21:26] cape
[00:21:26] the
[00:21:27] whole
[00:21:27] time
[00:21:27] and
[00:21:28] I
[00:21:28] didn't
[00:21:29] get
[00:21:29] it
[00:21:30] and
[00:21:30] but
[00:21:31] then
[00:21:31] I
[00:21:31] kind
[00:21:31] of
[00:21:31] got
[00:21:32] distracted
[00:21:33] kind
[00:21:33] of
[00:21:33] got
[00:21:35] you
[00:21:35] know
[00:21:35] this
[00:21:36] season
[00:21:36] finale
[00:21:37] was
[00:21:38] like
[00:21:38] we
[00:21:39] said
[00:21:40] extremely
[00:21:40] dark
[00:21:41] and
[00:21:42] I
[00:21:43] almost
[00:21:43] forgot
[00:21:44] that
[00:21:44] Batman
[00:21:45] was
[00:21:45] even
[00:21:45] part
[00:21:46] of
[00:21:46] this
[00:21:46] story
[00:21:47] well
[00:21:47] and
[00:21:47] I
[00:21:48] think
[00:21:48] it
[00:21:48] does
[00:21:48] something
[00:21:49] too
[00:21:49] that
[00:21:50] that
[00:21:51] that
[00:21:51] gave
[00:21:52] me
[00:21:52] a
[00:21:52] level
[00:21:52] of
[00:21:52] excitement
[00:21:53] too
[00:21:53] in
[00:21:53] the
[00:21:53] sense
[00:21:54] like
[00:21:54] ah
[00:21:54] there's
[00:21:54] a
[00:21:54] bat
[00:21:54] signal
[00:21:55] hell
[00:21:55] yeah
[00:21:55] then
[00:21:56] there's
[00:21:56] another
[00:21:56] element
[00:21:56] of
[00:21:56] that
[00:21:57] that's
[00:21:57] like
[00:21:57] after
[00:21:57] watching
[00:21:58] something
[00:21:58] so
[00:21:58] dark
[00:22:00] and
[00:22:00] kind
[00:22:01] of
[00:22:01] depraved
[00:22:01] like
[00:22:02] as
[00:22:02] most
[00:22:02] series
[00:22:02] do
[00:22:03] like
[00:22:03] a
[00:22:04] modern
[00:22:04] series
[00:22:05] tend
[00:22:05] to
[00:22:05] do
[00:22:05] especially
[00:22:06] in
[00:22:06] HBO
[00:22:08] and
[00:22:09] this
[00:22:09] may
[00:22:09] sound
[00:22:09] like
[00:22:09] a
[00:22:09] little
[00:22:10] bit
[00:22:10] of
[00:22:10] a
[00:22:10] fanboy
[00:22:11] kind
[00:22:11] of
[00:22:11] geeky
[00:22:11] thing
[00:22:11] it's
[00:22:12] like
[00:22:12] ah
[00:22:12] but
[00:22:13] there
[00:22:13] is
[00:22:13] a
[00:22:13] hero
[00:22:15] and
[00:22:15] that's
[00:22:17] kind
[00:22:17] of
[00:22:18] an
[00:22:18] interesting
[00:22:20] juxtaposition
[00:22:20] right
[00:22:21] is that
[00:22:21] the
[00:22:22] bat
[00:22:22] signal
[00:22:23] in
[00:22:23] that
[00:22:23] case
[00:22:24] isn't
[00:22:24] just
[00:22:24] a
[00:22:25] signal
[00:22:25] but
[00:22:25] it
[00:22:25] is
[00:22:26] a
[00:22:26] beacon
[00:22:26] of
[00:22:26] light
[00:22:27] in
[00:22:32] world
[00:22:33] is
[00:22:33] a
[00:22:33] very
[00:22:34] dark
[00:22:34] and
[00:22:34] gritty
[00:22:35] world
[00:22:35] that
[00:22:35] they've
[00:22:35] created
[00:22:36] there's
[00:23:06] still
[00:23:07] but
[00:23:07] it
[00:23:08] was
[00:23:09] a
[00:23:09] serial
[00:23:09] killer
[00:23:09] movie
[00:23:10] right
[00:23:10] so
[00:23:10] you're
[00:23:11] expecting
[00:23:11] that
[00:23:12] right
[00:23:12] you're
[00:23:13] not
[00:23:14] here's
[00:23:14] here's
[00:23:15] for
[00:23:15] me
[00:23:15] here's
[00:23:15] what
[00:23:15] made
[00:23:16] this
[00:23:16] show
[00:23:17] so
[00:23:17] dark
[00:23:18] and
[00:23:19] what
[00:23:20] I
[00:23:20] think
[00:23:20] kind
[00:23:21] of
[00:23:21] makes
[00:23:21] it
[00:23:21] brilliant
[00:23:22] is
[00:23:23] that
[00:23:23] it's
[00:23:24] a
[00:23:24] crime
[00:23:24] drama
[00:23:25] and
[00:23:25] you
[00:23:26] would
[00:23:26] expect
[00:23:26] you
[00:23:26] know
[00:23:27] some
[00:23:27] pretty
[00:23:28] dark
[00:23:28] moments
[00:23:28] in
[00:23:28] a
[00:23:29] crime
[00:23:29] drama
[00:23:29] right
[00:23:29] right
[00:23:30] but
[00:23:31] at
[00:23:32] the
[00:23:32] end
[00:23:32] of
[00:23:32] the
[00:23:32] day
[00:23:32] if
[00:23:33] the
[00:23:33] dirty
[00:23:33] cops
[00:23:33] get
[00:23:34] what's
[00:23:34] coming
[00:23:34] to
[00:23:35] them
[00:23:36] you're
[00:23:37] okay
[00:23:37] because
[00:23:37] that's
[00:23:38] the
[00:23:38] rules
[00:23:38] of
[00:23:38] the
[00:23:39] street
[00:23:39] if
[00:23:40] a
[00:23:40] criminal
[00:23:40] gets
[00:23:41] what's
[00:23:41] coming
[00:23:41] to
[00:23:41] him
[00:23:41] you're
[00:23:42] kind
[00:23:42] of
[00:23:43] okay
[00:23:43] with
[00:23:43] that
[00:23:43] too
[00:23:43] because
[00:23:44] this
[00:23:44] guy
[00:23:44] chose
[00:23:45] to
[00:23:45] live
[00:23:45] outside
[00:23:45] the
[00:23:46] law
[00:23:46] or
[00:23:46] something
[00:23:46] like
[00:23:47] that
[00:23:48] but
[00:23:48] the
[00:23:49] internal
[00:23:49] morality
[00:23:50] of
[00:23:50] most
[00:23:51] crime
[00:23:51] dramas
[00:23:51] is
[00:23:52] that
[00:23:52] you're
[00:23:53] loyal
[00:23:54] and
[00:23:55] most
[00:23:55] mafia
[00:23:56] shows
[00:23:56] are
[00:23:57] like
[00:23:58] you're
[00:23:59] loyal
[00:23:59] to
[00:23:59] your
[00:23:59] family
[00:24:00] above
[00:24:00] all
[00:24:00] whether
[00:24:01] or
[00:24:01] not
[00:24:01] it's
[00:24:02] the
[00:24:02] law
[00:24:04] or
[00:24:05] it's
[00:24:05] society
[00:24:06] at
[00:24:06] large
[00:24:07] all
[00:24:08] of
[00:24:08] those
[00:24:08] things
[00:24:09] get
[00:24:10] demoted
[00:24:11] ethically
[00:24:11] if
[00:24:12] you
[00:24:13] can
[00:24:13] demonstrate
[00:24:14] this
[00:24:14] tribal
[00:24:15] collectivism
[00:24:16] and
[00:24:17] you're
[00:24:17] loyal
[00:24:18] to
[00:24:18] your
[00:24:18] family
[00:24:18] and
[00:24:20] what
[00:24:20] this
[00:24:20] show
[00:24:20] does
[00:24:21] is
[00:24:21] it
[00:24:32] to
[00:24:32] expect
[00:24:33] from
[00:24:33] the
[00:24:33] penguin
[00:24:34] the
[00:24:35] penguin
[00:24:36] turns
[00:24:37] all of
[00:24:37] that
[00:24:37] on
[00:24:38] his
[00:24:38] head
[00:24:38] in
[00:24:38] fact
[00:24:40] the
[00:24:40] moment
[00:24:41] anyone
[00:24:41] calls
[00:24:42] him
[00:24:42] family
[00:24:43] is
[00:24:43] the
[00:24:43] moment
[00:24:43] that
[00:24:44] person
[00:24:44] just
[00:24:44] wrote
[00:24:45] their
[00:24:45] death
[00:24:45] warrant
[00:24:45] right
[00:24:46] right
[00:24:46] right
[00:24:46] I
[00:24:47] don't
[00:24:47] know
[00:24:47] what
[00:24:47] his
[00:24:48] what
[00:24:48] he
[00:24:48] thinks
[00:24:48] he's
[00:24:49] doing
[00:24:49] for
[00:24:49] his
[00:24:49] mom
[00:24:50] you
[00:24:50] know
[00:24:50] sort
[00:24:51] of
[00:24:51] just
[00:24:51] staring
[00:24:52] out
[00:24:52] onto
[00:24:53] the
[00:24:53] you know
[00:24:54] onto
[00:24:54] the
[00:24:55] city
[00:24:55] lights
[00:24:55] but he
[00:24:56] basically
[00:24:57] got his
[00:24:57] mom
[00:24:57] in an
[00:24:58] attic
[00:24:58] like
[00:24:59] psycho
[00:24:59] how did
[00:25:00] you
[00:25:00] read
[00:25:00] that
[00:25:00] oh
[00:25:01] that
[00:25:17] he's
[00:25:17] dancing
[00:25:18] with
[00:25:18] he's
[00:25:18] got
[00:25:19] his
[00:25:19] mother
[00:25:19] in
[00:25:20] the
[00:25:20] attic
[00:25:20] I
[00:25:21] think
[00:25:22] that
[00:25:22] tear
[00:25:22] at
[00:25:22] the
[00:25:22] end
[00:25:23] is
[00:25:23] meant
[00:25:23] to
[00:25:23] tell
[00:25:24] us
[00:25:24] that
[00:25:24] she's
[00:25:25] awake
[00:25:26] inside
[00:25:26] there
[00:25:26] somewhere
[00:25:26] so now
[00:25:28] she's
[00:25:28] a
[00:25:28] prisoner
[00:25:29] and
[00:25:29] then
[00:25:30] he's
[00:25:30] dressed
[00:25:30] up
[00:25:31] a
[00:25:31] sex
[00:25:31] worker
[00:25:32] as
[00:25:32] his
[00:25:32] mother
[00:25:33] to
[00:25:34] dance
[00:25:34] with
[00:25:34] her
[00:25:36] and
[00:25:36] tell
[00:25:37] him
[00:25:37] that
[00:25:37] he's
[00:25:37] a
[00:25:38] good
[00:25:38] boy
[00:25:38] and
[00:25:38] that
[00:25:39] he's
[00:25:39] the
[00:25:40] best
[00:25:40] and
[00:25:41] holy
[00:25:42] moly
[00:25:43] when
[00:25:43] he
[00:25:44] kills
[00:25:44] Vic
[00:25:46] which
[00:25:46] I did
[00:25:47] not see
[00:25:47] coming
[00:25:48] at all
[00:25:48] it was
[00:25:50] as
[00:25:50] jarring
[00:25:50] as
[00:25:51] anything
[00:25:51] I've
[00:25:51] seen
[00:25:52] when
[00:25:52] he
[00:25:53] kills
[00:25:53] Vic
[00:25:53] I
[00:25:55] was
[00:25:56] like
[00:25:56] what
[00:25:56] am
[00:25:56] I
[00:25:56] watching
[00:25:57] this
[00:25:57] is
[00:25:58] the
[00:25:59] saddest
[00:25:59] and
[00:26:00] darkest
[00:26:00] thing
[00:26:01] I've
[00:26:01] seen
[00:26:01] on
[00:26:01] television
[00:26:02] all
[00:26:02] year
[00:26:04] the
[00:26:04] show
[00:26:06] I'm
[00:26:06] going
[00:26:06] to
[00:26:06] go
[00:26:07] back
[00:26:07] to
[00:26:07] whatever
[00:26:08] it
[00:26:08] is
[00:26:09] that
[00:26:09] you
[00:26:09] kept
[00:26:09] of
[00:26:09] my
[00:26:09] earlier
[00:26:10] diatribe
[00:26:10] about
[00:26:11] what
[00:26:11] the
[00:26:11] penguin
[00:26:11] is
[00:26:12] and
[00:26:12] what
[00:26:12] we
[00:26:12] think
[00:26:12] he
[00:26:13] is
[00:26:14] it's
[00:26:14] deleted
[00:26:15] the
[00:26:15] I
[00:26:16] thought
[00:26:17] that
[00:26:17] one
[00:26:17] of the
[00:26:17] more
[00:26:17] impressive
[00:26:18] things
[00:26:19] that
[00:26:19] this
[00:26:19] show
[00:26:19] did
[00:26:21] for
[00:26:21] somebody
[00:26:22] who's
[00:26:22] maybe
[00:26:22] a bit
[00:26:23] of a
[00:26:23] lay
[00:26:25] Batman
[00:26:25] more
[00:26:26] specifically
[00:26:27] to movies
[00:26:28] as opposed
[00:26:28] to comic
[00:26:29] book
[00:26:29] type
[00:26:30] consumer
[00:26:31] it
[00:26:32] made
[00:26:32] the
[00:26:32] penguin
[00:26:34] one
[00:26:35] of
[00:26:35] the
[00:26:35] most
[00:26:36] vile
[00:26:36] if
[00:26:37] not
[00:26:37] the
[00:26:37] most
[00:26:38] vile
[00:26:39] Batman
[00:26:40] villains
[00:26:40] I've
[00:26:41] ever
[00:26:41] seen
[00:26:41] and
[00:26:42] I
[00:26:42] don't
[00:26:43] how
[00:26:44] to
[00:26:45] me
[00:26:45] was
[00:26:45] a
[00:26:46] major
[00:26:46] trick
[00:26:46] because
[00:26:46] the
[00:26:47] penguin
[00:26:47] always
[00:26:47] kind
[00:26:47] of
[00:26:48] felt
[00:26:48] a
[00:26:48] little
[00:26:49] silly
[00:26:51] exactly
[00:26:51] right
[00:26:52] I mean
[00:26:52] that's
[00:26:53] sort
[00:26:53] of
[00:26:53] the
[00:26:53] thing
[00:26:54] is
[00:26:54] that
[00:26:54] like
[00:26:54] well
[00:26:54] it's
[00:26:55] like
[00:26:55] is
[00:26:55] he
[00:26:55] is
[00:26:56] he
[00:26:56] what
[00:26:56] is
[00:26:57] his
[00:26:57] role
[00:26:57] exactly
[00:26:58] how does
[00:26:59] he
[00:26:59] fit
[00:26:59] in
[00:26:59] how
[00:27:00] is
[00:27:00] he
[00:27:00] a
[00:27:00] formidable
[00:27:01] opponent
[00:27:01] for
[00:27:01] Batman
[00:27:02] what
[00:27:02] is
[00:27:02] he
[00:27:03] exactly
[00:27:03] you know
[00:27:03] that
[00:27:04] became
[00:27:04] the
[00:27:05] question
[00:27:05] and
[00:27:06] then
[00:27:06] now
[00:27:07] it's
[00:27:07] like
[00:27:07] oh
[00:27:07] well
[00:27:07] shoot
[00:27:08] it's
[00:27:08] he
[00:27:09] he's
[00:27:10] more
[00:27:11] sinister
[00:27:11] than
[00:27:11] any
[00:27:11] version
[00:27:23] of
[00:27:30] he's
[00:27:31] he's
[00:27:31] he's
[00:27:32] he's
[00:27:32] eliminated
[00:27:33] that
[00:27:33] from
[00:27:33] his
[00:27:34] I
[00:27:34] guess
[00:27:35] his
[00:27:35] super
[00:27:35] villain
[00:27:36] profile
[00:27:38] and
[00:27:38] so
[00:27:39] you
[00:27:39] get
[00:27:40] the
[00:27:40] idea
[00:27:40] that
[00:27:41] this
[00:27:41] guy
[00:27:42] is
[00:27:42] ready
[00:27:42] to
[00:27:42] take
[00:27:42] over
[00:27:43] and
[00:27:44] I
[00:27:44] will
[00:27:44] say
[00:27:44] that
[00:27:44] I've
[00:27:45] never
[00:27:45] seen
[00:27:45] a
[00:27:45] courtroom
[00:27:46] used
[00:27:46] in
[00:27:46] the
[00:27:46] way
[00:27:47] that
[00:27:47] the
[00:27:47] courtroom
[00:27:48] was
[00:27:48] used
[00:27:48] in
[00:27:49] this
[00:27:49] finale
[00:27:50] when
[00:27:51] he's
[00:27:51] in
[00:27:51] there
[00:27:51] he's
[00:27:52] sitting
[00:27:52] behind
[00:27:52] he's
[00:27:52] sitting
[00:27:53] on
[00:27:53] the
[00:27:53] bench
[00:27:53] there
[00:27:54] using
[00:27:55] the
[00:27:55] gavel
[00:27:55] it
[00:27:57] really
[00:27:57] gives
[00:27:57] you
[00:27:57] the
[00:27:57] it's
[00:27:58] a nice
[00:27:58] little
[00:27:59] motif
[00:27:59] for
[00:28:00] the
[00:28:00] city
[00:28:00] of
[00:28:01] Gotham
[00:28:01] you
[00:28:01] know
[00:28:02] Gotham
[00:28:03] is
[00:28:03] famously
[00:28:04] a
[00:28:05] city
[00:28:05] where
[00:28:05] the
[00:28:06] criminals
[00:28:06] are
[00:28:07] basically
[00:28:07] running
[00:28:07] the
[00:28:08] whole
[00:28:08] city
[00:28:08] and
[00:28:09] so
[00:28:09] for
[00:28:09] him
[00:28:10] to
[00:28:10] walk
[00:28:10] into
[00:28:10] the
[00:28:10] courtroom
[00:28:11] sit
[00:28:12] behind
[00:28:12] the
[00:28:12] bench
[00:28:14] wheeled
[00:28:14] the
[00:28:14] gavel
[00:28:15] had
[00:28:15] that
[00:28:15] conversation
[00:28:16] with
[00:28:17] the
[00:28:17] politician
[00:28:18] very
[00:28:19] effective
[00:28:19] and
[00:28:20] very
[00:28:20] original
[00:28:21] I
[00:28:21] don't
[00:28:22] think
[00:28:22] I
[00:28:23] mean
[00:28:23] how
[00:28:24] many
[00:28:24] movies
[00:28:25] and
[00:28:25] shows
[00:28:26] have
[00:28:26] I
[00:28:26] seen
[00:28:26] where
[00:28:27] the
[00:28:27] courtroom
[00:28:27] was
[00:28:27] used
[00:28:28] for
[00:28:28] dramatic
[00:28:29] effect
[00:28:29] never
[00:28:30] seen
[00:28:30] it
[00:28:30] used
[00:28:31] like
[00:28:31] this
[00:28:31] right
[00:28:32] no
[00:28:32] it
[00:28:33] was
[00:28:33] it
[00:28:33] was
[00:28:33] very
[00:28:33] effective
[00:28:34] and
[00:28:34] I
[00:28:34] think
[00:28:34] there's
[00:28:35] something
[00:28:35] not
[00:28:36] fanciful
[00:28:37] about
[00:28:37] it
[00:28:38] but
[00:28:38] there
[00:28:38] is
[00:28:38] like
[00:28:39] did
[00:28:40] you
[00:28:40] ever
[00:28:40] feel
[00:28:40] comic
[00:28:41] book
[00:28:41] in
[00:28:41] this
[00:28:42] yeah
[00:28:43] the
[00:28:43] whole
[00:28:43] time
[00:28:43] it
[00:28:44] was
[00:28:44] there
[00:28:44] was
[00:28:45] a
[00:28:45] guy
[00:28:45] in
[00:28:45] a
[00:28:45] suit
[00:28:45] the
[00:28:46] whole
[00:28:46] time
[00:28:46] as
[00:28:47] much
[00:28:47] as
[00:28:48] they
[00:28:49] tried
[00:28:49] to
[00:28:49] get
[00:28:50] rid
[00:28:50] of
[00:28:50] the
[00:28:50] spandex
[00:28:50] I
[00:28:51] never
[00:28:52] took
[00:28:52] my
[00:28:52] eyes
[00:28:52] off
[00:28:52] the
[00:28:53] suit
[00:28:53] and
[00:28:54] there
[00:28:54] was
[00:28:54] a
[00:28:55] moment
[00:28:55] where
[00:28:55] I
[00:28:55] stopped
[00:28:56] looking
[00:28:56] at
[00:28:56] the
[00:28:57] eyes
[00:28:58] and
[00:28:58] I
[00:28:58] started
[00:28:59] looking
[00:28:59] looking
[00:28:59] looking
[00:28:59] the
[00:28:59] shoulders
[00:29:02] the
[00:29:02] shoulder
[00:29:03] pads
[00:29:03] for
[00:29:03] me
[00:29:04] were
[00:29:04] basically
[00:29:05] Batman's
[00:29:06] cowl
[00:29:06] it's
[00:29:06] so
[00:29:06] interesting
[00:29:07] that
[00:29:07] you
[00:29:07] have
[00:29:07] such
[00:29:08] a
[00:29:08] problem
[00:29:08] with
[00:29:08] practical
[00:29:09] effects
[00:29:10] I
[00:29:10] don't
[00:29:11] have
[00:29:11] a
[00:29:11] problem
[00:29:11] with
[00:29:11] practical
[00:29:12] effects
[00:29:12] I
[00:29:12] have
[00:29:12] a
[00:29:12] problem
[00:29:13] with
[00:29:13] this
[00:29:14] particular
[00:29:14] kind
[00:29:15] of
[00:29:15] thing
[00:29:15] and
[00:29:29] didn't
[00:29:29] take
[00:29:29] me
[00:29:29] out
[00:29:31] and
[00:29:31] again
[00:29:32] I'm
[00:29:32] going
[00:29:32] to
[00:29:32] go
[00:29:32] back
[00:29:32] to
[00:29:32] what
[00:29:32] we
[00:29:33] said
[00:29:33] in
[00:29:33] the
[00:29:33] first
[00:29:33] one
[00:29:33] this
[00:29:33] is
[00:29:34] for
[00:29:34] sure
[00:29:34] a
[00:29:34] you
[00:29:34] problem
[00:29:37] I
[00:29:38] keep
[00:29:39] watching
[00:29:39] House
[00:29:40] of
[00:29:40] the
[00:29:40] Dragon
[00:29:40] knowing
[00:29:41] what
[00:29:41] their
[00:29:42] hair
[00:29:42] color
[00:29:42] really
[00:29:43] is
[00:29:43] sure
[00:29:44] and
[00:29:44] I
[00:29:45] think
[00:29:45] Sarah
[00:29:46] had
[00:29:46] the
[00:29:46] same
[00:29:46] issue
[00:29:49] I
[00:29:59] out
[00:29:59] I
[00:30:00] guess
[00:30:01] that's
[00:30:01] it
[00:30:01] for
[00:30:02] you
[00:30:02] you're
[00:30:03] not
[00:30:03] going
[00:30:04] to
[00:30:04] be
[00:30:05] interested
[00:30:05] in
[00:30:05] everything
[00:30:06] else
[00:30:07] that's
[00:30:07] going
[00:30:07] to
[00:30:07] happen
[00:30:08] so
[00:30:10] if
[00:30:11] you
[00:30:12] can't
[00:30:12] get
[00:30:12] past
[00:30:13] that
[00:30:13] I
[00:30:13] think
[00:30:13] it's
[00:30:14] very
[00:30:14] hard
[00:30:14] to
[00:30:15] discuss
[00:30:16] the
[00:30:16] effectiveness
[00:30:17] of
[00:30:17] much
[00:30:18] anything
[00:30:18] else
[00:30:18] in
[00:30:18] this
[00:30:19] show
[00:30:19] right
[00:30:20] I
[00:30:20] mean
[00:30:20] if
[00:30:20] you
[00:30:20] don't
[00:30:20] see
[00:30:23] if
[00:30:27] you
[00:30:30] the
[00:30:31] suspenders
[00:30:31] with
[00:30:32] the
[00:30:32] clear
[00:30:33] shoulder
[00:30:34] pads
[00:30:35] didn't
[00:30:36] take
[00:30:36] you
[00:30:36] out
[00:30:36] at
[00:30:36] all
[00:30:37] Batman
[00:30:37] Returns
[00:30:37] is my
[00:30:38] favorite
[00:30:38] Batman
[00:30:38] movie
[00:30:39] I
[00:30:39] know
[00:30:40] that
[00:30:40] Danny
[00:30:40] DeVito
[00:30:41] is in
[00:30:41] shape
[00:30:41] like
[00:30:41] that
[00:30:42] I
[00:30:43] know
[00:30:43] he
[00:30:43] has
[00:30:43] regular
[00:30:44] hands
[00:30:45] that
[00:30:45] was a
[00:30:45] very
[00:30:45] different
[00:30:46] movie
[00:30:57] we've
[00:30:58] talked
[00:30:58] be
[00:30:59] wearing
[00:30:59] shoulder
[00:30:59] pads
[00:31:00] under
[00:31:01] my
[00:31:01] suspenders
[00:31:04] when
[00:31:04] I
[00:31:04] wear
[00:31:05] suspenders
[00:31:05] it
[00:31:06] is
[00:31:06] to
[00:31:07] accent
[00:31:07] the
[00:31:08] anatomically
[00:31:09] correct
[00:31:09] shape
[00:31:10] of
[00:31:10] my
[00:31:10] shoulders
[00:31:13] yeah
[00:31:14] no
[00:31:14] no
[00:31:14] I
[00:31:15] it
[00:31:16] never
[00:31:16] worked
[00:31:16] for
[00:31:17] me
[00:31:17] at
[00:31:18] the
[00:31:18] end
[00:31:18] of
[00:31:18] the
[00:31:18] day
[00:31:18] I
[00:31:19] enjoyed
[00:31:20] this
[00:31:20] finale
[00:31:20] quite
[00:31:21] a
[00:31:30] maybe
[00:31:30] my
[00:31:30] favorite
[00:31:30] part
[00:31:31] of
[00:31:31] it
[00:31:31] so
[00:31:32] this
[00:31:32] is
[00:31:33] where
[00:31:33] we'll
[00:31:33] have
[00:31:34] to
[00:31:34] disagree
[00:31:34] I
[00:31:34] think
[00:31:35] he
[00:31:35] I
[00:31:35] think
[00:31:35] he's
[00:31:35] great
[00:31:37] I
[00:31:38] suspended
[00:31:38] all
[00:31:39] you know
[00:31:40] I mean
[00:31:40] there were
[00:31:40] moments
[00:31:41] where you
[00:31:41] you did
[00:31:41] have
[00:31:42] those
[00:31:42] like
[00:31:42] and
[00:31:42] that
[00:31:42] is
[00:31:43] Colin
[00:31:43] Farrell
[00:31:43] but
[00:31:43] not
[00:31:43] because
[00:31:44] I
[00:31:44] saw
[00:31:44] Colin
[00:31:45] Farrell
[00:31:45] because
[00:31:45] I
[00:31:46] reminded
[00:31:47] myself
[00:31:47] so
[00:31:48] I
[00:31:48] was
[00:31:48] fully
[00:31:49] in
[00:31:49] on
[00:31:50] the
[00:31:50] character
[00:31:51] I
[00:31:51] was
[00:31:51] fully
[00:31:52] in
[00:31:52] on
[00:31:53] how
[00:31:54] he
[00:31:54] was
[00:31:54] presented
[00:31:57] I
[00:31:59] almost
[00:32:00] feel like
[00:32:00] I like
[00:32:00] it better
[00:32:01] because
[00:32:01] it is
[00:32:02] that way
[00:32:02] in a
[00:32:03] weird
[00:32:03] way
[00:32:04] the
[00:32:05] same
[00:32:05] way
[00:32:05] that
[00:32:05] they
[00:32:06] didn't
[00:32:06] hire
[00:32:06] a
[00:32:07] professional
[00:32:07] clown
[00:32:07] to be
[00:32:08] the
[00:32:08] Joker
[00:32:08] ever
[00:32:09] they
[00:32:10] put
[00:32:10] people
[00:32:13] I
[00:32:14] appreciated
[00:32:15] that
[00:32:17] every
[00:32:18] Joker
[00:32:19] movie
[00:32:19] I've
[00:32:19] seen
[00:32:20] has
[00:32:20] required
[00:32:20] makeup
[00:32:21] and
[00:32:21] I
[00:32:21] was
[00:32:22] okay
[00:32:22] with
[00:32:22] that
[00:32:24] so
[00:32:25] yeah
[00:32:25] I
[00:32:27] don't
[00:32:28] know
[00:32:28] if
[00:32:28] you
[00:32:28] know
[00:32:28] that
[00:32:28] Aaron
[00:32:29] Eckhart
[00:32:29] had
[00:32:29] a
[00:32:29] full
[00:32:30] face
[00:32:30] in
[00:32:32] the
[00:32:32] Dark
[00:32:32] Knight
[00:32:34] they
[00:32:43] actors
[00:32:44] that
[00:32:44] are
[00:32:44] not
[00:32:45] getting
[00:32:45] the
[00:32:45] representation
[00:32:46] they
[00:32:46] deserve
[00:32:46] damn
[00:32:47] right
[00:32:47] about
[00:32:47] that
[00:32:47] all
[00:32:48] these
[00:32:49] half
[00:32:49] faced
[00:32:49] kids
[00:32:50] have
[00:32:50] no
[00:32:50] one
[00:32:50] to
[00:32:50] look
[00:32:50] up
[00:32:51] to
[00:32:52] it's
[00:32:52] like
[00:32:52] Tom
[00:32:53] Hanks
[00:32:53] in
[00:32:53] Philadelphia
[00:32:54] to
[00:32:54] the
[00:32:54] half
[00:32:55] faced
[00:32:55] kids
[00:33:00] one
[00:33:01] more
[00:33:01] thing
[00:33:01] about
[00:33:01] this
[00:33:01] finale
[00:33:02] that
[00:33:02] I
[00:33:02] quite
[00:33:02] enjoyed
[00:33:04] I
[00:33:05] think
[00:33:05] I've
[00:33:05] seen
[00:33:07] maybe
[00:33:08] half a
[00:33:08] dozen
[00:33:08] times
[00:33:09] someone
[00:33:09] tied
[00:33:10] up
[00:33:10] in
[00:33:10] a
[00:33:10] room
[00:33:11] while
[00:33:11] a
[00:33:12] villain
[00:33:12] monologues
[00:33:13] and
[00:33:14] it's
[00:33:15] always
[00:33:15] kind
[00:33:16] of
[00:33:16] like
[00:33:17] this
[00:33:17] is
[00:33:17] just
[00:33:18] kind
[00:33:18] of
[00:33:18] pretty
[00:33:19] superhero
[00:33:20] tropey
[00:33:21] when
[00:33:22] Sophia
[00:33:22] has
[00:33:23] Oz
[00:33:25] and
[00:33:26] forget
[00:33:27] the
[00:33:27] mother's
[00:33:27] name
[00:33:28] in
[00:33:29] the
[00:33:29] room
[00:33:29] and
[00:33:30] she's
[00:33:30] doing
[00:33:30] like
[00:33:31] she's
[00:33:31] basically
[00:33:31] turning
[00:33:32] them
[00:33:32] against
[00:33:32] each
[00:33:32] other
[00:33:34] I
[00:33:35] was
[00:33:35] fully
[00:33:35] invested
[00:33:36] I
[00:33:43] to
[00:33:44] me
[00:33:44] it
[00:33:44] totally
[00:33:45] worked
[00:33:46] the
[00:33:47] way
[00:33:47] that
[00:33:47] they
[00:33:48] staged
[00:33:48] him
[00:33:49] escaping
[00:33:50] with
[00:33:50] the
[00:33:50] mother
[00:33:51] over
[00:33:51] the
[00:33:51] shoulder
[00:33:51] I
[00:33:53] was
[00:33:53] totally
[00:33:53] invested
[00:33:54] they
[00:33:54] run
[00:33:54] outside
[00:33:55] there
[00:33:55] there's
[00:33:56] a guard
[00:33:56] outside
[00:33:56] he's
[00:33:57] taking
[00:33:58] drops
[00:33:58] he gets
[00:33:59] shot
[00:33:59] through
[00:33:59] the
[00:33:59] eye
[00:34:00] that
[00:34:01] whole
[00:34:01] scene
[00:34:02] was
[00:34:02] perfect
[00:34:02] it
[00:34:03] was
[00:34:03] perfect
[00:34:03] and
[00:34:04] it
[00:34:04] shouldn't
[00:34:05] have
[00:34:05] worked
[00:34:06] at
[00:34:06] any
[00:34:07] point
[00:34:07] in
[00:34:07] that
[00:34:07] scene
[00:34:07] I
[00:34:08] should
[00:34:08] have
[00:34:08] thought
[00:34:08] like
[00:34:09] oh
[00:34:09] come
[00:34:09] on
[00:34:10] give
[00:34:10] me
[00:34:10] a
[00:34:10] break
[00:34:11] and
[00:34:11] I
[00:34:11] never
[00:34:12] got
[00:34:12] taken
[00:34:12] out
[00:34:13] of
[00:34:13] it
[00:34:14] loved
[00:34:14] that
[00:34:14] scene
[00:34:15] and
[00:34:15] I
[00:34:15] feel
[00:34:15] like
[00:34:16] I've
[00:34:16] seen
[00:34:16] that
[00:34:16] scene
[00:34:17] exact
[00:34:17] scene
[00:34:18] half
[00:34:19] a dozen
[00:34:19] times
[00:34:20] and
[00:34:20] this
[00:34:20] was
[00:34:20] the
[00:34:21] first
[00:34:21] time
[00:34:21] I've
[00:34:21] seen
[00:34:21] it
[00:34:41] he's
[00:34:41] duck
[00:34:41] taped
[00:34:41] to
[00:34:42] a
[00:34:42] chair
[00:34:42] there's
[00:34:42] no
[00:34:42] way
[00:34:43] he's
[00:34:43] going
[00:34:43] to
[00:34:43] escape
[00:34:43] from
[00:34:44] that
[00:34:44] it's
[00:34:44] just
[00:34:44] impossible
[00:34:45] and
[00:34:46] for
[00:34:46] some
[00:34:47] reason
[00:34:47] they
[00:34:47] pulled
[00:34:47] it
[00:34:47] well
[00:34:48] and
[00:34:48] it's
[00:34:48] another
[00:34:48] way
[00:34:48] of
[00:34:49] making
[00:34:50] the
[00:34:50] penguin
[00:34:52] formidable
[00:34:53] not just
[00:34:53] in like
[00:34:54] how sinister
[00:34:55] he is
[00:34:55] but there
[00:34:56] is
[00:34:56] some
[00:34:56] he's
[00:34:57] adept
[00:34:57] at
[00:34:57] certain
[00:34:58] things
[00:34:58] right
[00:34:58] and like
[00:34:58] so
[00:34:59] he
[00:34:59] so
[00:34:59] it
[00:34:59] does
[00:35:00] add
[00:35:00] an
[00:35:00] element
[00:35:01] of
[00:35:01] like
[00:35:01] okay
[00:35:01] this
[00:35:02] villain
[00:35:03] is
[00:35:03] something
[00:35:03] to
[00:35:04] consider
[00:35:05] and
[00:35:06] in
[00:35:06] a
[00:35:06] way
[00:35:06] it's
[00:35:07] like
[00:35:07] kind
[00:35:07] of
[00:35:07] like
[00:35:07] that's
[00:35:07] the
[00:35:07] whole
[00:35:08] movie
[00:35:08] or
[00:35:08] the
[00:35:08] whole
[00:35:09] series
[00:35:09] is
[00:35:10] doing
[00:35:10] that
[00:35:10] like
[00:35:10] trying
[00:35:10] don't
[00:35:11] underestimate
[00:35:11] don't
[00:35:11] underestimate
[00:35:12] it
[00:35:12] almost
[00:35:12] does
[00:35:13] for
[00:35:14] the
[00:35:14] world
[00:35:15] what
[00:35:15] it's
[00:35:15] doing
[00:35:15] for
[00:35:15] the
[00:35:15] viewer
[00:35:16] is
[00:35:16] like
[00:35:16] you
[00:35:36] but
[00:35:36] it's
[00:35:37] just
[00:35:37] a
[00:35:37] wink
[00:35:37] right
[00:35:38] and
[00:35:38] then
[00:35:39] the
[00:35:40] other
[00:35:40] thing
[00:35:40] I
[00:35:40] really
[00:35:40] enjoy
[00:35:41] like
[00:35:41] going
[00:35:41] back
[00:35:42] to
[00:35:42] you
[00:35:42] talk
[00:35:42] about
[00:35:42] hypnosis
[00:35:43] and
[00:35:43] that
[00:35:43] was
[00:35:43] always
[00:35:43] what
[00:35:44] he
[00:35:44] would
[00:35:44] do
[00:35:44] right
[00:35:44] in
[00:35:44] the
[00:35:45] series
[00:35:45] is
[00:35:46] he
[00:35:46] would
[00:35:46] spin
[00:35:46] his
[00:35:46] umbrella
[00:35:47] to
[00:35:47] hypnotize
[00:35:47] people
[00:35:48] that
[00:35:48] was
[00:35:48] his
[00:35:49] shtick
[00:35:50] yet
[00:35:50] hypnosis
[00:35:51] was being
[00:35:51] used
[00:35:52] against
[00:35:52] him
[00:36:06] and
[00:36:06] he's
[00:36:06] like
[00:36:07] what
[00:36:08] was
[00:36:08] that
[00:36:08] supposed
[00:36:08] to
[00:36:08] do
[00:36:08] hypnotize
[00:36:09] me
[00:36:09] and
[00:36:09] he's
[00:36:09] like
[00:36:10] no
[00:36:10] it
[00:36:11] just
[00:36:11] gives
[00:36:11] you
[00:36:11] a
[00:36:11] real
[00:36:11] big
[00:36:12] hack
[00:36:12] and
[00:36:12] then
[00:36:12] it
[00:36:13] shoots
[00:36:13] it
[00:36:16] okay
[00:36:17] just
[00:36:17] a second
[00:36:25] I
[00:36:25] think
[00:36:25] Steve's
[00:36:26] being
[00:36:26] eaten
[00:36:27] alive
[00:36:27] that's
[00:36:28] what's
[00:36:28] happening
[00:36:28] all right
[00:36:30] I
[00:36:30] want
[00:36:31] you
[00:36:31] to
[00:36:31] know
[00:36:31] I'm
[00:36:31] leaving
[00:36:32] all
[00:36:32] of
[00:36:32] that
[00:36:32] in
[00:36:36] one
[00:36:37] more
[00:36:37] thing
[00:36:38] about
[00:36:38] this
[00:36:39] show
[00:36:39] and
[00:36:39] then
[00:36:39] we
[00:36:40] can
[00:36:40] wrap
[00:36:40] it
[00:36:41] up
[00:36:41] now
[00:36:42] I
[00:36:43] thought
[00:36:43] it
[00:36:43] was
[00:36:43] really
[00:36:44] funny
[00:36:44] when
[00:36:45] he's
[00:36:46] about
[00:36:46] to
[00:36:46] go
[00:36:46] in
[00:36:46] the
[00:36:46] courtroom
[00:36:47] gets
[00:36:48] out
[00:36:48] of
[00:36:48] the
[00:36:48] car
[00:36:48] he
[00:36:49] like
[00:36:50] fixes
[00:36:51] his
[00:36:51] hair
[00:36:52] and
[00:36:53] he
[00:36:53] looks
[00:36:53] back
[00:36:53] in
[00:36:54] and
[00:36:54] tells
[00:36:55] he
[00:36:55] asked
[00:36:55] Vic
[00:36:56] like
[00:36:56] how
[00:36:56] do
[00:36:56] I
[00:36:56] look
[00:36:58] there's
[00:36:59] a
[00:36:59] little
[00:37:00] little
[00:37:00] pause
[00:37:00] by
[00:37:01] Victor
[00:37:02] with
[00:37:02] those
[00:37:02] look
[00:37:03] on
[00:37:03] his
[00:37:03] face
[00:37:03] like
[00:37:04] dude
[00:37:04] you
[00:37:04] look
[00:37:05] like
[00:37:05] the
[00:37:05] worst
[00:37:05] thing
[00:37:05] I've
[00:37:06] ever
[00:37:06] seen
[00:37:06] in
[00:37:06] my
[00:37:06] entire
[00:37:07] life
[00:37:08] that
[00:37:09] was
[00:37:09] really
[00:37:10] really
[00:37:10] funny
[00:37:13] how do
[00:37:15] I look
[00:37:17] good
[00:37:17] for
[00:37:18] you
[00:37:18] I guess
[00:37:20] right
[00:37:20] I mean
[00:37:21] it is
[00:37:22] pretty
[00:37:22] great
[00:37:24] he's
[00:37:24] a very
[00:37:25] handsome
[00:37:25] guy
[00:37:25] in
[00:37:26] real
[00:37:26] life
[00:37:26] I
[00:37:26] don't
[00:37:26] know
[00:37:26] if
[00:37:27] you
[00:37:27] know
[00:37:27] that
[00:37:27] I
[00:37:27] don't
[00:37:28] want
[00:37:28] that
[00:37:28] I
[00:37:28] want
[00:37:28] ugly
[00:37:28] guys
[00:37:28] he's
[00:37:29] got
[00:37:29] a
[00:37:29] watchable
[00:37:30] quality
[00:37:31] when
[00:37:31] he's
[00:37:31] not
[00:37:31] wearing
[00:37:32] shoulder
[00:37:32] pads
[00:37:32] I
[00:37:33] want
[00:37:33] ugly
[00:37:33] guys
[00:37:33] to
[00:37:34] play
[00:37:34] handsome
[00:37:34] guys
[00:37:35] like
[00:37:35] Adam
[00:37:36] driver
[00:37:41] is
[00:37:42] Adam
[00:37:43] driver
[00:37:43] not
[00:37:44] is he
[00:37:45] not
[00:37:45] handsome
[00:37:45] I feel
[00:37:46] like
[00:37:55] handsome
[00:37:55] is ugly
[00:37:56] man
[00:37:56] or the
[00:37:56] ugliest
[00:37:57] handsome
[00:37:57] man
[00:37:59] have
[00:37:59] you
[00:37:59] used
[00:38:00] that
[00:38:00] on
[00:38:00] stage
[00:38:01] I
[00:38:02] think
[00:38:03] it'd
[00:38:03] be
[00:38:03] really
[00:38:03] worth
[00:38:03] using
[00:38:04] it's
[00:38:04] really
[00:38:05] fun
[00:38:05] and I
[00:38:06] almost
[00:38:06] let me
[00:38:07] let me
[00:38:07] throw
[00:38:07] my answer
[00:38:08] I don't
[00:38:09] think he's
[00:38:10] handsome
[00:38:10] I think
[00:38:11] he's
[00:38:12] sexy
[00:38:12] and I
[00:38:13] think
[00:38:13] that
[00:38:14] there's
[00:38:14] a
[00:38:14] difference
[00:38:15] and I
[00:38:16] think
[00:38:16] for some
[00:38:17] reason
[00:38:17] and maybe
[00:38:18] we
[00:38:18] call it
[00:38:19] the
[00:38:19] the
[00:38:20] nolty
[00:38:20] he's
[00:38:20] got a
[00:38:21] nolty
[00:38:22] quality
[00:38:22] or
[00:38:23] almost
[00:38:24] even
[00:38:24] a
[00:38:24] jack
[00:38:24] palance
[00:38:25] quality
[00:38:26] there's
[00:38:27] a
[00:38:27] certain
[00:38:27] amount
[00:38:28] of
[00:38:28] sexy
[00:38:28] that
[00:38:29] an
[00:38:30] ugly
[00:38:30] man
[00:38:30] can
[00:38:30] have
[00:38:31] that
[00:38:31] almost
[00:38:32] supersedes
[00:38:33] any
[00:38:34] anything
[00:38:40] yeah I
[00:38:41] think my
[00:38:41] wife would
[00:38:41] agree
[00:38:42] he's
[00:38:42] sexy
[00:38:42] I'm
[00:38:42] wondering
[00:38:43] she
[00:38:43] might
[00:38:44] think
[00:38:44] he's
[00:38:44] handsome
[00:38:44] but I
[00:38:45] don't
[00:38:45] know
[00:38:46] like
[00:38:46] let me
[00:38:47] just give
[00:38:47] you an
[00:38:47] example
[00:38:48] here
[00:38:48] so like
[00:38:48] Mike
[00:38:48] Myers
[00:38:49] Mike
[00:38:50] Myers
[00:38:50] famously
[00:38:51] played
[00:38:52] Link
[00:38:52] Thompson
[00:38:53] handsome
[00:38:53] man
[00:38:55] on SNL
[00:38:56] right
[00:38:56] but if
[00:38:57] you see
[00:38:57] him in
[00:38:58] real life
[00:38:58] you think
[00:38:58] you wouldn't
[00:38:59] think
[00:38:59] like oh
[00:39:00] well
[00:39:00] that
[00:39:00] gosh
[00:39:01] that guy
[00:39:01] is the
[00:39:02] most
[00:39:02] handsome
[00:39:02] man
[00:39:02] I've
[00:39:02] ever
[00:39:03] seen
[00:39:03] what
[00:39:04] ended
[00:39:04] up
[00:39:04] happening
[00:39:05] with
[00:39:05] him
[00:39:05] is
[00:39:06] he
[00:39:06] put
[00:39:06] on
[00:39:07] an
[00:39:07] ugly
[00:39:07] suit
[00:39:08] called
[00:39:09] Austin
[00:39:09] Powers
[00:39:10] and as
[00:39:10] soon
[00:39:10] as he
[00:39:11] became
[00:39:11] uglier
[00:39:12] he
[00:39:12] became
[00:39:12] sexier
[00:39:13] I don't
[00:39:14] know
[00:39:14] how it
[00:39:14] happened
[00:39:15] it's like
[00:39:15] movie making
[00:39:16] magic
[00:39:19] so
[00:39:19] I'm not
[00:39:20] sure
[00:39:20] I don't
[00:39:22] know
[00:39:22] where else
[00:39:23] I can
[00:39:24] give you
[00:39:24] that kind
[00:39:25] of wisdom
[00:39:26] because
[00:39:27] my
[00:39:27] seminer
[00:39:28] certainly
[00:39:28] doesn't
[00:39:29] want to
[00:39:29] pay
[00:39:29] me
[00:39:29] to say
[00:39:31] things like
[00:39:31] that
[00:39:31] in the
[00:39:32] classroom
[00:39:33] that's why
[00:39:34] we have
[00:39:34] this
