00:18 --> 00:20 [SPEAKER_02]: Hello, Alicia here with David and John.
00:20 --> 00:23 [SPEAKER_02]: We are the lower hounds your guides to great TV.
00:23 --> 00:30 [SPEAKER_05]: And the nominations are for the television Academy, seven seventh prime to I'm Emmy Awards have been announced.
00:30 --> 00:32 [SPEAKER_05]: We've got stats and opinions.
00:33 --> 00:35 [SPEAKER_05]: There's only four nominations for the rehearsal.
00:36 --> 00:39 [SPEAKER_03]: I'm angry for Nathan Fielder, Evan Essence, and Celie Sullivan.
00:40 --> 00:42 [SPEAKER_03]: Justice for the miracle over the Mojave.
00:44 --> 00:45 [SPEAKER_02]: Especially Celie Sullivan.
00:45 --> 00:46 [SPEAKER_02]: He would be so mad.
00:47 --> 00:48 [SPEAKER_02]: He's alive.
00:48 --> 00:51 [SPEAKER_03]: He is alive and we are begging for him to do an interview.
00:52 --> 00:54 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I need a response.
00:56 --> 01:00 [SPEAKER_02]: So today, we are going to be as David said, talking through the nominations.
01:00 --> 01:05 [SPEAKER_02]: Now, there are a hundred and eighteen categories for the prime time emis that were obvious.
01:06 --> 01:08 [SPEAKER_02]: We're obviously not going through all of them.
01:08 --> 01:09 [SPEAKER_02]: So we're going to be looking.
01:09 --> 01:11 [SPEAKER_05]: We're not doing all of them.
01:11 --> 01:12 [SPEAKER_02]: I used to do it a hard out.
01:15 --> 01:27 [SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, we're going to go through the categories, the main categories for each genre and also just shout out the shows that we cover or the shows that we wish that we covered.
01:27 --> 01:35 [SPEAKER_02]: And our spoiler policy is going to be that we will try to avoid spoilers to a reasonable degree or at least give a warning before we launch into them.
01:35 --> 01:37 [SPEAKER_02]: Some of these shows have been out for quite a while.
01:37 --> 01:43 [SPEAKER_02]: So are you guys normally Emmy Watchers or do you follow the results?
01:44 --> 01:46 [SPEAKER_05]: Generally not.
01:48 --> 01:58 [SPEAKER_05]: I would pay passable attention to the Oscars prior to, you know, your, you leading us through the Oscars for these last couple of years.
01:59 --> 02:02 [SPEAKER_05]: And the Emmys are just kind of like background noise for me.
02:02 --> 02:03 [SPEAKER_05]: And I think part of my reason.
02:05 --> 02:08 [SPEAKER_05]: is that I'm always confused about the coverage period.
02:08 --> 02:10 [SPEAKER_05]: Like, wait, was this season covered or that?
02:11 --> 02:13 [SPEAKER_05]: It just boggles my mind.
02:13 --> 02:17 [SPEAKER_05]: And I was looking at the outline that you prepared and it shows the dates.
02:17 --> 02:18 [SPEAKER_05]: And I'm just like, what?
02:18 --> 02:23 [SPEAKER_05]: June to May, just kind of a, it's an off-kilter thing for me.
02:24 --> 02:28 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so I mean, it is a different coverage period than the Oscars.
02:28 --> 02:35 [SPEAKER_02]: So it is for anyone who doesn't know the nominees were announced July, fifteenth, so just last week.
02:36 --> 02:44 [SPEAKER_02]: But this, the eligible episodes are those from June first, twenty twenty four to May, thirty first, twenty twenty five.
02:44 --> 02:47 [SPEAKER_02]: And this is why we had this crush of content in May.
02:47 --> 02:48 [SPEAKER_02]: It was everyone trying to get
02:49 --> 03:03 [SPEAKER_02]: their shows out before they're nominated and just like, you know, the Oscars in December, the last ones out of the gates, they often save a lot of the ones they think are like, and or for instance, last ones out of the gates end up getting nominated the most as well.
03:05 --> 03:07 [SPEAKER_02]: Although actually the most nominated this year came out in January.
03:08 --> 03:13 [SPEAKER_02]: But so the voting for the nominations was June twelve to June twenty-third.
03:13 --> 03:15 [SPEAKER_02]: And then the final voting for the awards themselves.
03:15 --> 03:19 [SPEAKER_02]: Now that we have the nominees is going to be August eighteen to August twenty-seven.
03:20 --> 03:23 [SPEAKER_02]: So right now we are right into campaigning periods.
03:23 --> 03:24 [SPEAKER_02]: So you're going to see a lot of
03:25 --> 03:32 [SPEAKER_02]: for your considerations and the people who are nominated being lovely on talk shows and hot ones or whatever.
03:34 --> 03:42 [SPEAKER_05]: Who is the, for the Oscars, it's the Academy of Motion Pictures are eligible voters.
03:42 --> 03:45 [SPEAKER_05]: Is there, is it the DGA?
03:45 --> 03:46 [SPEAKER_05]: Is it the actor's guild?
03:46 --> 03:48 [SPEAKER_05]: How are you eligible to vote for Emmys?
03:49 --> 03:50 [SPEAKER_02]: It's the television Academy?
03:51 --> 03:58 [SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, you don't have to be a member of the Academy to be nominated, but you do have to be a member to vote.
03:58 --> 04:06 [SPEAKER_02]: And there's like an eighty-page rulebook online with extensive requirements about how you become a member of the Academy.
04:06 --> 04:13 [SPEAKER_02]: But it's unusual, like if you're an invite to extend it often when you're nominated, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.
04:15 --> 04:26 [SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, the final voting is August, eighteenth to twenty-seventh, and then the Emmys Air on Sunday, September, fourteenth at five p.m.
04:26 --> 04:30 [SPEAKER_02]: Pacific or APM, Eastern, or two a.m.
04:30 --> 04:30 [SPEAKER_02]: my time.
04:32 --> 04:41 [SPEAKER_02]: And it'll be on CBS or Paramount Plus in the US, and then various other networks around the world, you can find that information on their website.
04:41 --> 04:48 [SPEAKER_02]: And the host's time is comedian, Nate, Barg, I'm not familiar with him.
04:48 --> 04:51 [SPEAKER_02]: I'm looking forward to learning about his humor.
04:52 --> 04:53 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, how do you say his name?
04:53 --> 04:54 [SPEAKER_02]: Do you know?
04:54 --> 04:55 [SPEAKER_02]: Bargazzi.
04:55 --> 04:58 [SPEAKER_03]: I think it looks Italian to me.
04:58 --> 05:02 [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah on the on the Wikipedia pages is bar get see.
05:03 --> 05:06 [SPEAKER_03]: Okay Bargazzi.
05:06 --> 05:06 [SPEAKER_03]: Come on the mic.
05:08 --> 05:10 [SPEAKER_03]: How do you say Nate Bargazzi that you like?
05:12 --> 05:14 [SPEAKER_03]: She just raised her hands with no answer.
05:14 --> 05:17 [SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
05:17 --> 05:18 [SPEAKER_05]: Wow.
05:18 --> 05:23 [SPEAKER_05]: Highest grossing stand-up comic in twenty twenty four with over a million tickets to the crowd.
05:24 --> 05:24 [SPEAKER_02]: We're just out of it.
05:25 --> 05:29 [SPEAKER_02]: I used to follow stand-up comedians a lot more but then was also I found stand-up.
05:29 --> 05:36 [SPEAKER_02]: I used to go to stand-up shows here too but I think you know it's just as there's more and more content being produced.
05:36 --> 05:41 [SPEAKER_02]: It's like my genre window narrows more and more because there's so much to keep up with.
05:41 --> 05:41 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
05:41 --> 05:42 [SPEAKER_05]: Right filtering down and out.
05:42 --> 05:43 [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
05:43 --> 05:43 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
05:44 --> 05:47 [SPEAKER_02]: Well, he's nominated for two awards.
05:47 --> 05:57 [SPEAKER_02]: He's nominated for Best Variety Special for your friend, Nate Bergatzay, Best Variety Special Pre-recorded, and also for writing for that.
05:57 --> 06:06 [SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, he's up against fellow comedians Adam Sandler, Ali Wong, Bill Bur, Conan O'Brien, and Sarah Silverman.
06:07 --> 06:09 [SPEAKER_02]: So we'll see how he does.
06:09 --> 06:11 [SPEAKER_02]: It'll be interesting if the host actually wins an award.
06:12 --> 06:12 [SPEAKER_05]: That would be strange.
06:13 --> 06:15 [SPEAKER_05]: Well, and that's strange, but I guess.
06:15 --> 06:16 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
06:17 --> 06:19 [SPEAKER_02]: I feel like I need to watch all these specials get more invested.
06:19 --> 06:21 [SPEAKER_02]: Of course, I'm familiar with all the other people nominated.
06:21 --> 06:27 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, the interesting thing though is Bill Burr is on Hulu, but all the rest of these are on Netflix.
06:27 --> 06:29 [SPEAKER_02]: And Netflix is just dominating this stand-up space.
06:30 --> 06:35 [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, yeah, they really used to be an HBO thing and now it's a seems to be a Netflix thing.
06:35 --> 06:39 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, they, they, they, they, they, well now Hulu is trying to do the same thing.
06:39 --> 06:42 [SPEAKER_03]: I thought like so it could Netflix have his Netflix as a joke thing.
06:42 --> 06:47 [SPEAKER_03]: And now I think they're, they're calling it hilarious, which is just, I mean, you could do better.
06:47 --> 06:49 [SPEAKER_03]: You could do better.
06:52 --> 06:59 [SPEAKER_02]: He's up in writing against Kunk on life, which also got an editing, and also SNL-Fifty Conan and Sarah Silverman.
06:59 --> 07:01 [SPEAKER_02]: But David, I know you got into Kunk recently.
07:02 --> 07:04 [SPEAKER_05]: Just the, was it Kung Kung Life?
07:04 --> 07:05 [SPEAKER_05]: It was the one that was out earlier.
07:05 --> 07:06 [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
07:06 --> 07:07 [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, the movie.
07:07 --> 07:07 [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
07:08 --> 07:09 [SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
07:09 --> 07:09 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
07:09 --> 07:16 [SPEAKER_05]: We were sitting down for family Friday night, pizza and a movie kind of thing.
07:16 --> 07:23 [SPEAKER_05]: And we often watch documentaries or cooking shows called Friday night, pizza and a movie, but it's just Friday night TV.
07:25 --> 07:25 [SPEAKER_05]: I made pizza.
07:26 --> 07:34 [SPEAKER_05]: And we were going through Netflix and it came up and something caught us and we were like, oh, okay, you know, when the auto played the thing.
07:34 --> 07:40 [SPEAKER_05]: And then we were like, okay, and my daughter, you know, was just she was hilarious.
07:40 --> 07:43 [SPEAKER_05]: She was getting a lot of the jokes and my wife and I were really enjoying it.
07:44 --> 07:48 [SPEAKER_05]: So it was like completely, we just completely stumbled into it and loved it.
07:48 --> 07:49 [SPEAKER_05]: I thought it was great.
07:51 --> 07:58 [SPEAKER_02]: And John, you've been a longer fan of, so, okay, is this gonna cause tension in the household who's rooting for Nate Barkatzay?
07:58 --> 07:59 [SPEAKER_02]: It's really forgot about that.
07:59 --> 08:01 [SPEAKER_03]: I don't even, I don't think she's like a super fan of him.
08:01 --> 08:03 [SPEAKER_03]: I just know she's awesome and she enjoys him.
08:04 --> 08:06 [SPEAKER_03]: But no, she's a big punk fan too, my off.
08:06 --> 08:08 [SPEAKER_03]: So, you know, where, where punk build here?
08:09 --> 08:10 [SPEAKER_02]: Will it be a heart and conflict with itself?
08:11 --> 08:12 [SPEAKER_03]: It could be.
08:12 --> 08:19 [SPEAKER_03]: It's like, it's like, you know that, that award, I don't know if it was an Academy Award or an Oscar where Jim Carrey beat himself in a category.
08:21 --> 08:26 [SPEAKER_03]: And he, and he did a whole bit of like, I refuse to believe that I'm a better actor than myself.
08:26 --> 08:29 [SPEAKER_03]: So I'm going to share this award, Jim, come up here.
08:29 --> 08:32 [SPEAKER_03]: He's really good.
08:32 --> 08:33 [SPEAKER_03]: He's watching everybody.
08:35 --> 08:36 [SPEAKER_02]: So, John, did you have it?
08:36 --> 08:38 [SPEAKER_02]: Did you see the nominations over all?
08:38 --> 08:41 [SPEAKER_02]: Did you have any opening thoughts, hot takes?
08:41 --> 08:44 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, too much love for the last of us, not enough hate.
08:47 --> 08:50 [SPEAKER_03]: But I thought it pretty much tracked.
08:50 --> 08:55 [SPEAKER_03]: I think what we do in the shadows got some pity norms because I thought that was the weakest season of it.
08:57 --> 08:58 [SPEAKER_03]: I love that show.
08:58 --> 09:01 [SPEAKER_03]: But I think the season six was kind of just like it felt flat for me.
09:01 --> 09:02 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
09:03 --> 09:05 [SPEAKER_02]: I'm like halfway through and I feel the same.
09:06 --> 09:06 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
09:07 --> 09:12 [SPEAKER_03]: And overall, I think the top, like severance on the weight loaders, I think both deserve a lot of norms.
09:12 --> 09:13 [SPEAKER_03]: I think that makes sense.
09:13 --> 09:15 [SPEAKER_03]: And or I think under-nominated.
09:15 --> 09:17 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, exactly for sure.
09:17 --> 09:18 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, yeah, for sure.
09:19 --> 09:22 [SPEAKER_03]: The boys, yeah, leave it alone.
09:22 --> 09:23 [SPEAKER_03]: Leave it alone.
09:24 --> 09:27 [SPEAKER_03]: You know, those are my overall thoughts.
09:27 --> 09:33 [SPEAKER_03]: I think House of the Dragon appropriately nominated that that was a little bit under, underwhelming brings a power.
09:34 --> 09:38 [SPEAKER_03]: I think could have could have deserved some more stuff, but I know I'm not supposed to go too deep in the shows in this section.
09:38 --> 09:42 [SPEAKER_03]: So I'll just say overall, I think it matched my expectations.
09:43 --> 09:48 [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, rings of, sorry, house of the dragon got sixteen nominations.
09:48 --> 09:52 [SPEAKER_02]: So it's one of the biggest nominated shows, most nominated shows.
09:52 --> 09:57 [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, I thought it was six reading your, oh, did I accidentally leave off in one?
09:57 --> 09:59 [SPEAKER_03]: I think so in the part that I'm looking at.
09:59 --> 10:01 [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, we know sorry, this six, you know, you're right.
10:01 --> 10:02 [SPEAKER_02]: Sorry.
10:02 --> 10:03 [SPEAKER_02]: It's the last of us that got sixteen.
10:03 --> 10:04 [SPEAKER_02]: That's where it was.
10:04 --> 10:04 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, yeah.
10:05 --> 10:09 [SPEAKER_03]: No, yeah, no, no, no, no.
10:09 --> 10:10 [SPEAKER_02]: David, what about you?
10:10 --> 10:12 [SPEAKER_02]: What are your hot takes in the nominations?
10:12 --> 10:14 [SPEAKER_05]: I have no heart takes on the nominations.
10:14 --> 10:22 [SPEAKER_05]: I, to be honest, haven't paid much attention, life, vacation, travel, schedule, blah, blah, blah.
10:23 --> 10:27 [SPEAKER_05]: And I was actually going to use this podcast as my, uh, waiter.
10:27 --> 10:28 [SPEAKER_05]: Get into the topic.
10:29 --> 10:32 [SPEAKER_05]: I am your intended audience for this.
10:32 --> 10:44 [SPEAKER_02]: I think yeah, I frame this, you know, like we're going through a little bit how nominations work because I think there's a lot of people listening who are the same who are just like, I don't really pay attention to the Emmys, but seems to be a big deal.
10:44 --> 10:45 [SPEAKER_02]: Exactly.
10:45 --> 10:46 [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
10:46 --> 10:46 [SPEAKER_02]: That's where I'm at.
10:47 --> 11:07 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I would say overall, you know, the genre faves, they continue to be overlooked in the main categories unless they're sufficiently grounded, like end or the last of us, but otherwise, you know, there's obviously, we'll talk in a minute about the streamers, but there's definitely teachers pets in terms of which streamers get represented.
11:08 --> 11:13 [SPEAKER_02]: So this is why we only have hair and makeup for interview with the vampire and it's unfair.
11:13 --> 11:15 [SPEAKER_03]: That's not just, I mean, let's talk.
11:17 --> 11:18 [SPEAKER_03]: changed my outlook on life.
11:19 --> 11:39 [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I know it's on AMC plus, but come on in AMC plus, I guess we'll talk a bit in a minute about the pricing, but put all your weight behind this one show because this is the show that's going to put you on the map is a streamer, I think, more than the Walking Dead universe, or at least as much.
11:40 --> 11:42 [SPEAKER_03]: It was my number two last year, I think.
11:42 --> 11:43 [SPEAKER_02]: It was my number one.
11:44 --> 11:47 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it's a great show, like people are sleeping on a big time.
11:47 --> 11:48 [SPEAKER_02]: Mm-hmm.
11:49 --> 11:51 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's basically a guaranteed number one every time it comes out.
11:51 --> 11:56 [SPEAKER_02]: It's just everything from the writing to the production values to the acting, just everything is perfect.
11:57 --> 11:58 [SPEAKER_02]: It makes you laugh, it makes you cry.
11:58 --> 12:01 [SPEAKER_02]: Anyway, this is not- It makes your heart dance.
12:02 --> 12:02 [SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
12:03 --> 12:05 [SPEAKER_02]: I heard your heart dancing.
12:07 --> 12:14 [SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, it is interesting to see which new shows were represented here, you know, along with the favorites, like the last of us.
12:16 --> 12:25 [SPEAKER_02]: And by the way, the studio, I find personally that would be my pick for the most over-nominated show here, especially like every guest star.
12:26 --> 12:27 [SPEAKER_02]: basically got an nomination.
12:27 --> 12:36 [SPEAKER_02]: So the tip that you can learn from that is give every famous person, you know, a cameo and then you'll break in the nominations from all their friends.
12:37 --> 12:39 [SPEAKER_05]: Stunt casting extraordinaire.
12:39 --> 12:39 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
12:40 --> 12:44 [SPEAKER_02]: But it was, it was a strong year for a special limited series.
12:44 --> 12:56 [SPEAKER_02]: So the penguins leading the pack there, but we have some interesting ones with, I just started dying for sex and I'm really interested to see that that is like just extremely well done comedy, a dromity.
12:58 --> 13:01 [SPEAKER_02]: Although, yeah, it features a character who you know is literally going to die at the end.
13:02 --> 13:07 [SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, it's I'm looking forward to a year where it's not so locked up.
13:07 --> 13:13 [SPEAKER_02]: Like last year we knew baby reindeer was going to sweep limited and this year I think it's more up in the air.
13:13 --> 13:15 [SPEAKER_02]: So that should be fun.
13:17 --> 13:21 [SPEAKER_02]: I think a lot of people don't realize how expensive campaigning is.
13:21 --> 13:26 [SPEAKER_02]: And this is a lot why certain networks are really underrepresented here.
13:26 --> 13:32 [SPEAKER_02]: So for example, to submit for an individual achievement category.
13:32 --> 13:39 [SPEAKER_02]: And usually it's the network that submits you, but you can for individual achievement categories submit yourself.
13:40 --> 13:45 [SPEAKER_02]: And then there's also, you can submit an entire program, an entire season of a program.
13:46 --> 13:58 [SPEAKER_02]: And the processing charges for this, they, you know, for one entry, it'll often be about starting around five hundred because you have to pay per name listed and there's usually multiple names.
13:59 --> 14:09 [SPEAKER_02]: So that's actually fairly reasonable, but then for the actual advertising in order to be on the viewing platform so that people can view and vote for you, hopefully.
14:09 --> 14:14 [SPEAKER_02]: It's two to eight thousand per program that you put out there.
14:15 --> 14:20 [SPEAKER_02]: It is better than it was when during the DVD era, when everyone got sent DVDs and everyone hated it.
14:22 --> 14:39 [SPEAKER_02]: But also the four-year consideration events, it's five thousand per show and then there's all these fees that start at over a thousand and go up to like two point five thousand for delays or cancellations or anything that you change.
14:39 --> 14:41 [SPEAKER_02]: So it's really expensive.
14:41 --> 14:45 [SPEAKER_05]: never under estimate Hollywood's ability to make money.
14:46 --> 14:46 [SPEAKER_02]: Right.
14:46 --> 14:46 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
14:47 --> 14:48 [SPEAKER_03]: When are we starting the parties?
14:48 --> 14:48 [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, come on.
14:49 --> 14:50 [SPEAKER_03]: I think we can do this.
14:52 --> 14:52 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
14:52 --> 14:54 [SPEAKER_02]: So that we can become a for profit.
14:54 --> 14:55 [SPEAKER_02]: That's right.
14:55 --> 14:56 [SPEAKER_03]: That's right.
14:56 --> 14:56 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
14:57 --> 15:02 [SPEAKER_03]: Did you ever see the SML bit on like a podcast award ceremony where they have like
15:03 --> 15:30 [SPEAKER_02]: worse transition from serious topic to add that it was like, it was a parody of like Padsiva Barraca being like the full of art of democracy with with blue to like I mean I know there is the webbies do exist and they do of course award podcasts and I know some people who participated in it and that is also just so expensive it's so expensive yeah interesting
15:31 --> 15:40 [SPEAKER_05]: And photography, I often advise people not to submit to photograph a contest because all they are is money fly wheels, right?
15:40 --> 15:42 [SPEAKER_05]: They're just, they exist to make money for themselves.
15:43 --> 15:49 [SPEAKER_03]: Look, the only awards show that I ever watched in full was the two thousand nine VMAs.
15:49 --> 15:53 [SPEAKER_03]: And I don't think it's ever going to get better than that because that's where Kanye interrupted Taylor.
15:53 --> 15:55 [SPEAKER_03]: That was all that drama.
15:55 --> 15:59 [SPEAKER_03]: I just knew at that moment when I was like thirteen that it's never going to get better.
16:02 --> 16:03 [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if I was watching that.
16:03 --> 16:04 [SPEAKER_02]: I certainly remember it.
16:04 --> 16:08 [SPEAKER_02]: I think I saw it afterwards because that's yeah, the music side I just can't keep up with.
16:09 --> 16:14 [SPEAKER_02]: But I think a lot of people don't realize with the Emmys is that there are there's a number of different Emmy awards.
16:14 --> 16:16 [SPEAKER_02]: I guess most people have heard of the daytime Emmys.
16:16 --> 16:17 [SPEAKER_02]: That's the separate thing.
16:18 --> 16:18 [SPEAKER_05]: Right.
16:18 --> 16:18 [SPEAKER_05]: The soaps.
16:19 --> 16:24 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but there's, I mean, I guess I think a lot of reality shows are in that one as well.
16:24 --> 16:26 [SPEAKER_03]: There's also an illusion.
16:26 --> 16:33 [SPEAKER_03]: You and I were like surprised at the number of episodes of that fake fake soap opera in Murderbot, Second Moon.
16:34 --> 16:34 [SPEAKER_03]: And then we looked up.
16:35 --> 16:37 [SPEAKER_03]: Days of our lives and it was like, forty thousand episodes.
16:37 --> 16:38 [SPEAKER_03]: There's no like that.
16:38 --> 16:39 [SPEAKER_03]: Like it's insane.
16:39 --> 16:41 [SPEAKER_03]: It's insane how big these shows are.
16:41 --> 16:42 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
16:42 --> 16:43 [SPEAKER_02]: No, no, absolutely.
16:43 --> 16:53 [SPEAKER_02]: No, but I think also like I noticed there's only certain reality categories in prime time and there's also international shows like we won't have L. Eternata here.
16:54 --> 16:57 [SPEAKER_02]: There's a separate one for news and documentary.
16:57 --> 16:59 [SPEAKER_02]: Although there are documentary categories here.
16:59 --> 17:01 [SPEAKER_02]: So I'm confused about where the lines are.
17:01 --> 17:03 [SPEAKER_02]: I'm sure it's in that AD page.
17:03 --> 17:05 [SPEAKER_02]: That eighty-paste man.
17:05 --> 17:05 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
17:05 --> 17:06 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
17:06 --> 17:07 [SPEAKER_02]: That I have not read all the way through.
17:07 --> 17:08 [SPEAKER_02]: There's one for sports.
17:08 --> 17:13 [SPEAKER_02]: And for example, skeleton crew is submitted for children's and family Emmys.
17:13 --> 17:17 [SPEAKER_02]: So they were not snubbed to your course, submitted for a different Emmys category.
17:17 --> 17:17 [SPEAKER_02]: Now.
17:18 --> 17:19 [SPEAKER_05]: It's confusing, guys.
17:20 --> 17:29 [SPEAKER_02]: It's confusing, but yeah, so we have before we get into the words themselves, let's just talk through the biggest players.
17:30 --> 17:39 [SPEAKER_02]: So the three juggernauts of this season are HBO Max, which has a total of a hundred and forty-two nominations up from ninety-one last year.
17:40 --> 17:50 [SPEAKER_02]: Netflix has a hundred and twenty-one nominations and Apple has eighty-one nominations and these are by far the most out of anyone.
17:51 --> 18:06 [SPEAKER_05]: I'm surprised by the Apple number that's pretty good considering their I mean they're throwing some some good shows up but they don't seem to get a lot of heat in you know a lot of buzz in the in their talk space but that's pretty solid.
18:07 --> 18:09 [SPEAKER_02]: I think they have them promoting their shows.
18:10 --> 18:10 [SPEAKER_02]: Right.
18:10 --> 18:10 [SPEAKER_02]: Well.
18:10 --> 18:11 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
18:12 --> 18:17 [SPEAKER_02]: So these nominations are across fourteen shows and two commercials.
18:17 --> 18:21 [SPEAKER_02]: And it has thirty one total acting nominations.
18:21 --> 18:24 [SPEAKER_02]: So more than any other network in acting nominations.
18:24 --> 18:30 [SPEAKER_02]: So I think that's also where Apple shines is that it gets big names.
18:31 --> 18:35 [SPEAKER_02]: And as I was talking about with the studio, big names vote for their friends.
18:35 --> 18:36 [SPEAKER_05]: Right.
18:36 --> 18:36 [SPEAKER_05]: Right.
18:36 --> 18:37 [SPEAKER_05]: Right.
18:37 --> 18:37 [SPEAKER_05]: Right.
18:37 --> 18:37 [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
18:39 --> 18:44 [SPEAKER_02]: So they actually Apple has the most nominated show overall, which is severance with twenty seven.
18:44 --> 18:44 [SPEAKER_02]: Nice.
18:44 --> 18:45 [SPEAKER_03]: Is served.
18:46 --> 18:50 [SPEAKER_02]: And I said the most over nominated studio, which I did.
18:50 --> 18:50 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
18:50 --> 18:55 [SPEAKER_02]: Well, I guess we'll talk more about studio later, but I thought it was okay.
18:55 --> 18:57 [SPEAKER_02]: Maybe miss the franchise to be honest.
18:58 --> 18:58 [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
18:58 --> 18:58 [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
18:58 --> 18:58 [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
18:58 --> 18:59 [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
18:59 --> 18:59 [SPEAKER_05]: The franchise was good.
19:00 --> 19:15 [SPEAKER_05]: I think I bailed on, did I bail on episode one or episode two, just because I was expecting that it was going to keep being that kind of cringe humor that I don't enjoy, but then other people said that it moved off of that a little bit.
19:15 --> 19:19 [SPEAKER_05]: Anyway, that's, I mean, for Apple to put that up, it looked gorgeous.
19:19 --> 19:20 [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
19:21 --> 19:25 [SPEAKER_05]: The sets, the production values looked all fabulous.
19:26 --> 19:27 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, well shot.
19:27 --> 19:29 [SPEAKER_02]: It's just not really my sense of humor, I think.
19:30 --> 19:30 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, same.
19:31 --> 19:33 [SPEAKER_03]: If I were a vampire, Seth Rogod would be my garlic.
19:35 --> 19:40 [SPEAKER_03]: It's I, I, I do not like his acting.
19:41 --> 19:45 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think that's also what I'm rubbing up against is he's the center of the show.
19:45 --> 19:47 [SPEAKER_02]: He's on screen at all times and it's
19:48 --> 19:50 [SPEAKER_02]: I think it's also, yeah, like I said.
19:50 --> 19:51 [SPEAKER_05]: Wait, we're not supposed to talk about the shows, right?
19:51 --> 19:59 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we're not supposed to talk about the show, but we do have to talk about what major apple snub is that there was no nominations for silo season two.
19:59 --> 20:00 [SPEAKER_02]: I can't believe it.
20:01 --> 20:01 [SPEAKER_04]: None at all.
20:02 --> 20:18 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, last season, it got two minor nominations for like music composition, which I was submitted for again, and for what was it like title opening, which they didn't submit for because, but I can't believe like, it should have gotten some nominations in my opinion.
20:18 --> 20:22 [SPEAKER_02]: I think Rebecca Ferguson at least should have gotten worse or Steve Zahn.
20:23 --> 20:24 [SPEAKER_02]: Anyway.
20:24 --> 20:26 [SPEAKER_03]: Anyway, you know, Alicia, I will tell you too.
20:26 --> 20:28 [SPEAKER_03]: Well, it's Silas on the mouth.
20:29 --> 20:32 [SPEAKER_03]: Um, I started Shawshank for Demtion for the first time last night.
20:33 --> 20:33 [SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
20:33 --> 20:36 [SPEAKER_03]: And I was shocked to learn that that was Bernard.
20:36 --> 20:36 [SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
20:37 --> 20:40 [SPEAKER_02]: He was also put forward for nomination.
20:40 --> 20:41 [SPEAKER_02]: We should have gotten him.
20:41 --> 20:46 [SPEAKER_03]: He looks way, I mean, like, usually actors, you could like see their face at least.
20:46 --> 20:49 [SPEAKER_03]: Like, I don't know if it's the beard or the glasses, but like unrecognizable.
20:50 --> 20:52 [SPEAKER_02]: I think he has hair colors definitely changed.
20:52 --> 20:53 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
20:53 --> 20:53 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
20:54 --> 20:56 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he was a baby face.
20:56 --> 20:57 [SPEAKER_02]: What does that same again, Tim?
20:59 --> 20:59 [SPEAKER_03]: Tim Robbins.
21:00 --> 21:01 [SPEAKER_02]: Tim Robbins, thank you, thank you.
21:01 --> 21:05 [SPEAKER_02]: And we also saw, we talked about him in high fidelity, too, who looks very different there as well.
21:05 --> 21:06 [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
21:06 --> 21:07 [SPEAKER_05]: He's got a really long one.
21:07 --> 21:10 [SPEAKER_05]: One of these days, we'll have to do a film fest for him.
21:10 --> 21:13 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
21:13 --> 21:14 [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I'll never react.
21:14 --> 21:14 [SPEAKER_03]: Your deserves one.
21:15 --> 21:16 [SPEAKER_02]: I like his movies.
21:17 --> 21:18 [SPEAKER_03]: Going on the list.
21:19 --> 21:21 [SPEAKER_03]: What you do with your month is your own David.
21:24 --> 21:26 [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I've created so many lists now.
21:26 --> 21:28 [SPEAKER_02]: I now have three lists of Westerns.
21:29 --> 21:30 [SPEAKER_02]: Watch out.
21:30 --> 21:31 [SPEAKER_05]: I'm impressive.
21:33 --> 21:42 [SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, so Apple representing strong, but I think, yeah, but they really, the two going most head to head is HBO, which took a big step up this year in Netflix.
21:42 --> 21:51 [SPEAKER_02]: But HBO, it's got a lot of nominations concentrated in a handful of shows, especially the Penguin, White Lotus, the last of us hacks in the pit.
21:52 --> 21:57 [SPEAKER_02]: And Netflix, it has the biggest breadth of shows.
21:57 --> 22:01 [SPEAKER_02]: It has forty four shows, twenty of them with multiple nominations.
22:02 --> 22:09 [SPEAKER_02]: And it holds the record in the past with a hundred and sixty nominations versus HBO has this year, a hundred and forty two.
22:10 --> 22:11 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, these are the ones.
22:12 --> 22:17 [SPEAKER_02]: I find it interesting that the biggest shows for Netflix, you know, which does the binge format.
22:17 --> 22:22 [SPEAKER_02]: The biggest shows are in the limited series and anthology category.
22:22 --> 22:23 [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, it's interesting.
22:24 --> 22:30 [SPEAKER_05]: It's Netflix is getting into the different space in some ways.
22:30 --> 22:32 [SPEAKER_05]: I don't know, maybe maybe there
22:33 --> 22:35 [SPEAKER_05]: with the data that they're collecting on the binge.
22:35 --> 22:38 [SPEAKER_05]: There's a different nature to the show.
22:38 --> 22:39 [SPEAKER_05]: I don't know.
22:40 --> 22:40 [SPEAKER_05]: That's interesting.
22:40 --> 22:42 [SPEAKER_05]: I'm processing in real time here that thought.
22:43 --> 22:43 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
22:43 --> 22:48 [SPEAKER_02]: I think it's something like their, their highest number of nominations is adolescents with thirteen.
22:48 --> 22:55 [SPEAKER_02]: And adolescents is, it was a short show that I think most of us watched within a couple days.
22:55 --> 22:58 [SPEAKER_02]: They used to start that and you finish it pretty quickly.
22:58 --> 23:00 [SPEAKER_05]: And I'm surprised that it was on Netflix not.
23:01 --> 23:05 [SPEAKER_05]: So Netflix is definitely doing the international thing.
23:05 --> 23:08 [SPEAKER_05]: I'll, I'll, I'll turn it on and whatnot.
23:09 --> 23:15 [SPEAKER_05]: But it's a story that I would have seen fit within an HBO model.
23:16 --> 23:23 [SPEAKER_05]: Right, a limited series with a very focused and intended plot line, plot line story line, whatever.
23:23 --> 23:25 [SPEAKER_05]: Just it seemed like a very focused thing.
23:25 --> 23:27 [SPEAKER_05]: And so it's interesting that it was on Netflix.
23:27 --> 23:27 [SPEAKER_05]: It's not.
23:28 --> 23:35 [SPEAKER_05]: I don't usually feel like I go to Netflix for my heavy hitting drama stuff that felt more interesting to me.
23:35 --> 23:44 [SPEAKER_02]: I've become more aware of Netflix has been quietly representing in that area because the thing is these shows cost don't cost that much off.
23:44 --> 23:46 [SPEAKER_05]: No, they do not, you're right.
23:46 --> 23:55 [SPEAKER_02]: And so I've noticed Netflix obviously they put out a lot of reality content and things like that and I think that's and then there's the big shows that you know the
23:57 --> 24:01 [SPEAKER_02]: like squid game, not nominated this year, which is insane.
24:01 --> 24:01 [SPEAKER_02]: We'll get to that.
24:02 --> 24:11 [SPEAKER_02]: Stranger things, obviously, they have the big shows like that, but quietly they've been, I've been noticing they've been making a really big imprint at the Oscars, which wouldn't have expected some years ago.
24:11 --> 24:11 [SPEAKER_00]: Right.
24:11 --> 24:15 [SPEAKER_02]: So they've been quietly investing in prestige television.
24:15 --> 24:17 [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
24:17 --> 24:19 [SPEAKER_05]: They really are getting for the top seat.
24:20 --> 24:24 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, especially with them hosting other people's content.
24:24 --> 24:29 [SPEAKER_02]: Like I was going the other day to rewatched Dune and it's on Netflix right now.
24:30 --> 24:30 [SPEAKER_02]: The new Dune movie.
24:32 --> 24:35 [SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, why are you letting go of one of your biggest things?
24:35 --> 24:36 [SPEAKER_02]: And I'm just reading.
24:37 --> 24:37 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
24:37 --> 24:41 [SPEAKER_02]: They make money on it, but it's so secure as Netflix is holding the market.
24:41 --> 24:51 [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, I think it maybe kind of behooves them in some regards to other streamers to say, okay, Netflix is the dominant player.
24:51 --> 24:59 [SPEAKER_05]: So if we're up on their network, then we get views and we put up, we know we throw our logo up on there for a hot second.
25:00 --> 25:01 [SPEAKER_05]: We still get the brand exposure.
25:01 --> 25:03 [SPEAKER_05]: We still get the title exposure and we're making money.
25:03 --> 25:05 [SPEAKER_05]: We're making more money than we would if we didn't do it.
25:06 --> 25:07 [SPEAKER_05]: kind of makes sense.
25:07 --> 25:32 [SPEAKER_03]: I also think HBO is wisely stopped considering themselves like a competitor of Netflix and it's like like you saw that I forgot it was a casey bullies who did the interview just just this interview that that was like look we got to into like being Netflix and creating so much content but now we're just trying to you know basically protect the brand and and keep the brand as a high quality you know watermark
25:33 --> 25:40 [SPEAKER_03]: And I think that's waste martyr and that I think licensing out the material to other streamers fits within that strategy.
25:40 --> 25:41 [SPEAKER_03]: Right.
25:41 --> 25:42 [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, right.
25:42 --> 25:47 [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, because they're pulling back on the whole discovery thing, right?
25:47 --> 25:48 [SPEAKER_05]: They're really branding.
25:48 --> 25:48 [SPEAKER_05]: So yeah.
25:49 --> 25:53 [SPEAKER_02]: But I mean, Netflix, they've had their skin in the game for some years now.
25:53 --> 25:58 [SPEAKER_02]: They actually have they tie for the record for the most wins at the Emmys overall.
25:58 --> 26:03 [SPEAKER_02]: They got forty four wins in twenty twenty one, which ties with CBS in nineteen seventy four.
26:03 --> 26:06 [SPEAKER_02]: And of course, in the seventies, we had the networks dominating.
26:06 --> 26:07 [SPEAKER_02]: There's really just a handful.
26:07 --> 26:10 [SPEAKER_02]: So that's really difficult to do now.
26:10 --> 26:12 [SPEAKER_02]: And they have the most
26:13 --> 26:37 [SPEAKER_02]: new nominations with eleven actors getting their first eminominations including we'll talk through some of the bigger names um and yeah they they have like their they're dominating and true crime so we have monsters the liel and Eric Menendez story got eleven noms and then black mere just had one of its top two seasons ever so that got ten nominations well yeah
26:38 --> 26:43 [SPEAKER_02]: We'll be right back after a quick break to talk about how the rest of the streamers fared in the nominations.
27:00 --> 27:10 [SPEAKER_02]: And then we get to the next bunch of it, are actually kind of three parts of the same company, but they can't count their nominations together.
27:11 --> 27:19 [SPEAKER_02]: If they could count their nominations together, it would be eighty-six, or maybe even depending on a few counts, the broadcast, a hundred and thirty-seven for Disney.
27:21 --> 27:25 [SPEAKER_02]: But FX on Hulu has thirty-five nominations for H shows.
27:26 --> 27:34 [SPEAKER_02]: Disney Plus has twenty eight nominations and then Hulu without the FX part has twenty three nominations.
27:36 --> 27:38 [SPEAKER_05]: So as a group is a conglomerate there.
27:38 --> 27:50 [SPEAKER_02]: It would be eighty six for those three, but then if you count in things like ABC and things like that, then it's, um, then for Disney and total, it's a hundred and thirty seven, second most after Warner Bros.
27:50 --> 27:50 [SPEAKER_02]: Discovery.
27:51 --> 27:55 [SPEAKER_05]: This is why it's so gorgeous.
27:56 --> 27:59 [SPEAKER_05]: It's so complicated again, dragon.
27:59 --> 28:08 [SPEAKER_03]: It is the really is the most devious bastard in New York City because what we do in the shadows is in this category.
28:12 --> 28:16 [SPEAKER_05]: That's a solid hit for Disney, you know, when they umbrella everything like that.
28:16 --> 28:17 [SPEAKER_05]: That's yeah.
28:17 --> 28:18 [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
28:18 --> 28:22 [SPEAKER_02]: But you see FX is the one with the most overalls.
28:22 --> 28:24 [SPEAKER_02]: So it has the bear with thirteen.
28:24 --> 28:30 [SPEAKER_02]: And this again, it's season three, not the season that's dying right now, although I'm not sure voters remember that.
28:30 --> 28:35 [SPEAKER_05]: That's a, and that's a season that gives a lot of people head scratching moment.
28:35 --> 28:37 [SPEAKER_05]: Like, what is this, but still for thirteen arms?
28:37 --> 28:38 [SPEAKER_03]: That's pretty good.
28:38 --> 28:38 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
28:39 --> 28:39 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
28:40 --> 28:47 [SPEAKER_03]: And this is where I think that it might be more the name than the content in some of these like, I don't know.
28:47 --> 28:49 [SPEAKER_03]: I feel like it got such a lukewarm reception.
28:49 --> 28:50 [SPEAKER_03]: See, three.
28:51 --> 28:54 [SPEAKER_03]: And yet, thirteen noms is not anything to sniff at.
28:54 --> 28:54 [SPEAKER_03]: So, no.
28:55 --> 28:56 [SPEAKER_02]: No, exactly.
28:56 --> 28:59 [SPEAKER_02]: And as you said, what we do in the shadows, maybe because it's the last season.
29:00 --> 29:00 [SPEAKER_02]: Right.
29:00 --> 29:01 [SPEAKER_02]: It got six nominations.
29:02 --> 29:04 [SPEAKER_02]: And maybe it wasn't the strongest.
29:05 --> 29:10 [SPEAKER_02]: But I think, well, too, no, it's one is that actually FX, it has thirty five nominations this year.
29:10 --> 29:13 [SPEAKER_02]: That's down from ninety three last year when Chogan was ruling the roast.
29:15 --> 29:20 [SPEAKER_02]: But I think that what's more interesting for me is what new shows break through and dying for sex.
29:21 --> 29:29 [SPEAKER_02]: I started this and listeners, small update, we have decided we're splitting this into two parts because we had some technical problems.
29:30 --> 29:35 [SPEAKER_02]: So for this first part that we're recording, that's going to be released now, I have watched
29:36 --> 29:42 [SPEAKER_02]: about three episodes of Dying for Sex and I see why that one came through.
29:43 --> 29:50 [SPEAKER_02]: Now I'm going to finish the show by the time we do part two where we dive into the main categories themselves.
29:50 --> 29:58 [SPEAKER_02]: So I can talk more about that, but it's funny, it's bittersweet and just like the comic timing and the acting and the characterizations are so on point.
29:58 --> 30:00 [SPEAKER_02]: So I recommend Dying for Sex.
30:00 --> 30:01 [SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, and that's where
30:02 --> 30:13 [SPEAKER_02]: Like, that's more interesting, because that doesn't have the affection of the bear and what we do in the shadows, where people are just nominating it because, you know, what we do in the shadows should have ended in season five.
30:16 --> 30:24 [SPEAKER_02]: And then we have, yeah, Disney, obviously their biggest player is Andor with fourteen nominations, and I'll say Marvel and Star Wars did well.
30:25 --> 30:29 [SPEAKER_02]: you know, in the technical category says you would expect, so we'll talk about some more of those.
30:29 --> 30:31 [SPEAKER_05]: And that was for season two of Andor.
30:31 --> 30:31 [SPEAKER_05]: Yes.
30:31 --> 30:34 [SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, that was for season two of Andor.
30:34 --> 30:36 [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, as we said, that deserved more.
30:36 --> 30:36 [SPEAKER_05]: Right.
30:37 --> 30:48 [SPEAKER_05]: And speculation of why they there was a story reason for bundling, but also for the timing and the bundling.
30:50 --> 30:56 [SPEAKER_05]: how much studio decision went into releasing it when they did for how they did so that they could hit these nominations.
30:56 --> 30:56 [SPEAKER_02]: Right.
30:57 --> 30:57 [SPEAKER_02]: Well, they released it.
30:57 --> 30:58 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, all in May.
30:59 --> 31:02 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
31:03 --> 31:04 [SPEAKER_03]: It was just ready then.
31:04 --> 31:04 [SPEAKER_03]: It was done cook.
31:04 --> 31:05 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
31:07 --> 31:21 [SPEAKER_02]: and then Hulu the leaders are only murders in the building of seven noms and paradise with four noms and I just started paradise and I'm excited that now now that we've divided it into I'll have time to finish that because people tell me that episode seven is a doozy I dropped out around
31:22 --> 31:24 [SPEAKER_05]: four, four or five.
31:26 --> 31:27 [SPEAKER_05]: But then I was like, oh, can I make it a seven?
31:27 --> 31:29 [SPEAKER_05]: Then we just got busy with other stuff.
31:29 --> 31:34 [SPEAKER_05]: So yeah, I felt it was even though I love Sterling Gate Brown, like all day long.
31:35 --> 31:39 [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, there were just some things that I didn't enjoy.
31:39 --> 31:39 [SPEAKER_05]: That's story line.
31:40 --> 31:43 [SPEAKER_02]: So I've watched the first three episodes now and I'm in love.
31:44 --> 31:49 [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, but see then that's what happened for me was like, I was like, oh, okay, this is getting interesting and then it got weird.
31:49 --> 31:52 [SPEAKER_05]: It got, it got stupid for me in some way.
31:52 --> 31:53 [SPEAKER_02]: Okay, all right.
31:53 --> 32:09 [SPEAKER_02]: Well, we'll see by the time we do part two, I'm going to finish that and and and die for sex because those are the two that I picked up some shows just to be able to talk to about them for our MS discussion and those are the two that wowed me the most.
32:10 --> 32:10 [SPEAKER_02]: Right.
32:11 --> 32:24 [SPEAKER_02]: Um, and then we've got the, those, like, I don't want to call them the losers, but the people who are tailing at the end, we've got, uh, peacock with nineteen nominations prime video with twelve and paramount plus with seven.
32:24 --> 32:26 [SPEAKER_02]: And I would say,
32:27 --> 32:30 [SPEAKER_02]: Peacock actually, this is a step up for them.
32:31 --> 32:33 [SPEAKER_02]: They are not a global streamer.
32:33 --> 32:37 [SPEAKER_02]: They have special deals with streamers around like Skyshow time where I live.
32:38 --> 32:42 [SPEAKER_02]: And this is actually the most nominations that Peacock has gotten yet.
32:42 --> 32:52 [SPEAKER_02]: And if they got some of theirs, yeah, if they were able to count things like Saturday Night Live, which there is technically NBC and not Peacock,
32:53 --> 32:59 [SPEAKER_02]: Then Saturday Night Live got thirty one nomination between the regular show and the SNL fifty specials.
32:59 --> 33:00 [SPEAKER_05]: Wow.
33:00 --> 33:05 [SPEAKER_05]: The SNL fifty specials were particularly good.
33:05 --> 33:11 [SPEAKER_05]: There was a well I think maybe that movie was on HBO but there was a they did a whole bunch of stuff.
33:12 --> 33:21 [SPEAKER_05]: The music one behind the scenes one and something else and they were just all exceptional and a really great retrospective.
33:22 --> 33:23 [SPEAKER_05]: So I thought they did their
33:24 --> 33:37 [SPEAKER_05]: You know, I don't know how the season itself was because I didn't want you to note me back in, but in terms of a retrospective and and and from an old time fans perspective, I was like, okay, that's very cool.
33:37 --> 33:46 [SPEAKER_05]: And the music documentary, obviously Mark and Nicole and I talked about it with the never mind the music and that music documentary was exceptional.
33:48 --> 33:51 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I am a regular SNL watcher.
33:51 --> 33:53 [SPEAKER_03]: I don't watch every week, but I watch a lot.
33:53 --> 33:57 [SPEAKER_03]: And I always watch week and update because I love colors.
33:59 --> 34:00 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I mean, they're fantastic.
34:00 --> 34:01 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I do.
34:01 --> 34:02 [SPEAKER_03]: I have neither of them ever leave.
34:02 --> 34:04 [SPEAKER_03]: I hope they die in the chair.
34:04 --> 34:08 [SPEAKER_03]: Like, I think they have the perfect chemistry.
34:08 --> 34:11 [SPEAKER_03]: I know people are like, oh, the classic weekend update.
34:11 --> 34:12 [SPEAKER_03]: No, this is the best duo.
34:12 --> 34:13 [SPEAKER_03]: This is the best duo we've had.
34:13 --> 34:14 [SPEAKER_02]: It's true.
34:15 --> 34:16 [SPEAKER_02]: It's true.
34:16 --> 34:23 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and as a sunlight life has the most collective nominations of any show ever, it's been nominated three hundred and seventy two times over its fifty years.
34:23 --> 34:24 [SPEAKER_05]: Wow.
34:25 --> 34:36 [SPEAKER_02]: And this, this year, the biggest winner is the SNL fifty anniversary special, which got twelve nominations, including outstanding variety special live, writing, directing and some technical stuff.
34:36 --> 34:37 [SPEAKER_02]: So very cool.
34:37 --> 34:37 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
34:39 --> 35:01 [SPEAKER_02]: And also the the traders is there are other big I've heard it's it's a reality competition show of some sort I guess actually it's based on a Dutch show so I share a lot of reality shows are start in the Netherlands there's like interesting weird affinity here for reality I mean not weird which is it's for some reason there's a special specialty here in reality television
35:02 --> 35:05 [SPEAKER_02]: And it's something about, so here's called De Verader.
35:06 --> 35:09 [SPEAKER_02]: But it's something about, like, I guess, it's, I don't know.
35:09 --> 35:10 [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
35:10 --> 35:10 [SPEAKER_02]: Is it like where Wolf?
35:11 --> 35:14 [SPEAKER_02]: Anyone who watches the show let us know because people have been gushing about it.
35:14 --> 35:16 [SPEAKER_02]: And it's already on season three.
35:17 --> 35:19 [SPEAKER_05]: Well, never heard of it.
35:19 --> 35:19 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
35:20 --> 35:22 [SPEAKER_02]: And then poker face got two nominations.
35:22 --> 35:26 [SPEAKER_02]: But it was only the first six episodes were eligible because of airdates.
35:27 --> 35:29 [SPEAKER_05]: I have not gotten into season two, not sure.
35:30 --> 35:34 [SPEAKER_05]: If I'll end up there, if season one, we really enjoyed, but yeah season two, we never got around to it.
35:35 --> 35:37 [SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to watch it, but I have not yet.
35:37 --> 35:42 [SPEAKER_02]: It just was released here on on a sky shot time.
35:42 --> 35:44 [SPEAKER_05]: Didn't seem to get a lot of buzz, so I don't know.
35:45 --> 35:47 [SPEAKER_02]: I think it's just been so busy.
35:47 --> 35:48 [SPEAKER_02]: People are just tired.
35:49 --> 35:49 [SPEAKER_05]: It's true.
35:51 --> 35:52 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and then, yeah, prime video.
35:52 --> 35:55 [SPEAKER_02]: I think there are the biggest if I'm going to call anyone a loser.
35:55 --> 35:56 [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, I'm mad at them about the Wheel of Time.
35:59 --> 36:01 [SPEAKER_03]: You're personally writing letters to Jeff Bezos.
36:02 --> 36:04 [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, a lot of people are.
36:04 --> 36:06 [SPEAKER_03]: You're going to pick it outside his wedding.
36:06 --> 36:07 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
36:07 --> 36:08 [SPEAKER_03]: Say it for you.
36:08 --> 36:08 [SPEAKER_03]: Say what.com.
36:09 --> 36:10 [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, exactly.
36:10 --> 36:10 [SPEAKER_02]: Thank you.
36:11 --> 36:25 [SPEAKER_02]: We'll talk more about the snobs when we talk about the the their choice not to submit the song the hills of Chen Tian Chico is anyway, but yeah, it's one of the biggest and most global, but it has.
36:26 --> 36:28 [SPEAKER_02]: one at some of the least number of nominations.
36:28 --> 36:32 [SPEAKER_02]: And I think it's because like I do I sign up for a lot of this entertainment stuff.
36:32 --> 36:40 [SPEAKER_02]: So I've been getting for your consideration ads out the wadzu on YouTube in my email and prime video has done almost none of them.
36:41 --> 36:43 [SPEAKER_02]: So that's why last year they had thirty seven nominations this year.
36:43 --> 36:44 [SPEAKER_02]: It's only twelve.
36:45 --> 36:50 [SPEAKER_02]: It would be twenty four of MGM were included, but it's not in the official tally and their biggest nominee is the boys with four noms.
36:51 --> 36:55 [SPEAKER_02]: And that's another one where I think we were kind of more underwhelmed with the last season.
36:55 --> 36:58 [SPEAKER_05]: Well, you know, it costs a lot of money to put on a wedding these days.
36:59 --> 37:04 [SPEAKER_05]: And so I guess just all the promotions budget got sucked up by the nocturals.
37:06 --> 37:06 [SPEAKER_05]: Sorry.
37:07 --> 37:08 [SPEAKER_05]: Couldn't have been doing nicer guy.
37:08 --> 37:09 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
37:10 --> 37:10 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
37:10 --> 37:16 [SPEAKER_02]: And then Paramounts, you know, they have similar problems with with peacock and then they're not global.
37:16 --> 37:18 [SPEAKER_02]: They also show on sky show time here.
37:19 --> 37:21 [SPEAKER_02]: I'm waiting for Paramount and peacock to just merge.
37:21 --> 37:21 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
37:21 --> 37:22 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
37:23 --> 37:24 [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I'm very mad.
37:24 --> 37:26 [SPEAKER_03]: This is something that happened this week.
37:26 --> 37:28 [SPEAKER_03]: I'm very mad a pair of out for canceling.
37:30 --> 37:30 [SPEAKER_03]: What's it called?
37:30 --> 37:31 [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, I'm sorry.
37:31 --> 37:33 [SPEAKER_03]: This is their merging partner that did it.
37:33 --> 37:37 [SPEAKER_03]: CVS canceled.
37:37 --> 37:39 [SPEAKER_03]: This has to do with it, right?
37:39 --> 37:41 [SPEAKER_03]: This was part of their merger canceled to Colbert.
37:41 --> 37:43 [SPEAKER_05]: Oh, right.
37:43 --> 37:43 [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
37:44 --> 37:44 [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
37:44 --> 37:44 [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
37:44 --> 37:44 [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
37:44 --> 37:45 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
37:45 --> 37:45 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
37:45 --> 37:47 [SPEAKER_05]: It'll be a piece of pieces out about that.
37:48 --> 37:48 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
37:48 --> 37:48 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
37:49 --> 37:50 [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, he was nominated this year.
37:50 --> 37:51 [SPEAKER_02]: I have a feeling he might win.
37:52 --> 37:54 [SPEAKER_05]: I mean, as a protest vote.
37:54 --> 37:55 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
37:55 --> 37:57 [SPEAKER_05]: And honestly, he was, he deserved.
37:57 --> 37:58 [SPEAKER_02]: No, of course, of course.
37:58 --> 38:01 [SPEAKER_02]: But he's, he's against worthy people who also deserve it.
38:01 --> 38:03 [SPEAKER_02]: But I feel like the needle's going to tip in his direction now.
38:03 --> 38:04 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
38:04 --> 38:08 [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, he's also, I mean, like, he's the most watched lead by Joe by far and
38:10 --> 38:12 [SPEAKER_03]: there is no way that that was made for a financial decision.
38:12 --> 38:12 [SPEAKER_03]: That's all say.
38:13 --> 38:13 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
38:13 --> 38:13 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
38:14 --> 38:15 [SPEAKER_02]: No, I'm not.
38:15 --> 38:16 [SPEAKER_03]: Or Paracock.
38:18 --> 38:19 [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, my God.
38:19 --> 38:20 [SPEAKER_03]: Not the second one.
38:20 --> 38:21 [SPEAKER_03]: Jesus Christ.
38:22 --> 38:25 [SPEAKER_02]: But Paramount, like they, they're basically their two claims to fame.
38:25 --> 38:27 [SPEAKER_02]: Our Taylor Sheridan and Star Trek, which
38:29 --> 38:37 [SPEAKER_02]: Taylor Sheridan got four nominations, Star Trek got two, but they're all in technical categories, like they're not really being recognized.
38:37 --> 38:38 [SPEAKER_02]: It's just sort of like a nod.
38:38 --> 38:42 [SPEAKER_02]: Like we see those popular programs noted.
38:43 --> 38:46 [SPEAKER_02]: And then the seventh nomination is for one editing nomination for Frazier.
38:46 --> 38:51 [SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, they're relying on comfort shows, I feel like.
38:52 --> 38:59 [SPEAKER_05]: I'll be just in next year if a strange new world gets any nominations because it seems like the last season's getting a lot of heat.
38:59 --> 39:02 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I know people love that and yeah, I can't wait.
39:02 --> 39:05 [SPEAKER_02]: I need to catch up on Star Trek, but right now I am working through.
39:05 --> 39:06 [SPEAKER_05]: You need to catch up on everything.
39:06 --> 39:11 [SPEAKER_05]: We just need to plug you in the Matrix and you know, feed you some spicy and plug you into the butt.
39:11 --> 39:14 [SPEAKER_05]: You're brain into the back of a computer and you need to go.
39:14 --> 39:20 [SPEAKER_02]: There's certain shows I would just download to just like have memorized, but there are other shows that I really want to be the experience of watching in real time.
39:22 --> 39:25 [SPEAKER_03]: So you're considering which ones you want to murder about through it.
39:25 --> 39:29 [SPEAKER_03]: If you've got to watch Murderbot because it's a very mimoable show.
39:30 --> 39:31 [SPEAKER_02]: Everyone's going to watch Murderbot.
39:31 --> 39:33 [SPEAKER_02]: I hope it's represented next year.
39:33 --> 39:34 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, they didn't get renewed.
39:34 --> 39:36 [SPEAKER_03]: So we're not worried about that.
39:36 --> 39:38 [SPEAKER_02]: At least, yeah, at least is that it's been popular enough for that.
39:39 --> 39:57 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and then paramount again, like if they could count their other entities, you know, like MTV got eight nominations for Drag Race plus two for Untucked the Daily Show, which is Comedy Central got eight nominations plus three for the individual hosts and in another short form project.
39:57 --> 39:57 [SPEAKER_02]: So
39:59 --> 40:10 [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I feel like I don't want to advocate for mergers, but I can see why it would help them in things like this just to officially have things under the same roof.
40:11 --> 40:11 [SPEAKER_03]: Right.
40:13 --> 40:16 [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, all right, that's basically it for the lead up.
40:16 --> 40:18 [SPEAKER_02]: We're going to stop here this time.
40:19 --> 40:24 [SPEAKER_02]: We'll be back in two weeks to talk through the major categories split into four sections.
40:24 --> 40:39 [SPEAKER_02]: We're going to be talking about the dramas, especially the best drama nominees and shouting out other shows that we've covered, we're talked about in comedies, then limited or anthology series, and then other we're just going to do a little light talk about.
40:40 --> 40:45 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, about the films, the reality talk shows, things like that.
40:45 --> 40:46 [SPEAKER_02]: Cool.
40:46 --> 40:46 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
40:46 --> 40:50 [SPEAKER_05]: Talk a little bit like our Oscar coverage.
40:50 --> 40:51 [SPEAKER_05]: Break it up a little bit.
40:51 --> 40:51 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
40:51 --> 40:52 [SPEAKER_02]: Exactly.
40:52 --> 40:52 [SPEAKER_02]: Exactly.
40:53 --> 40:53 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
40:53 --> 40:57 [SPEAKER_03]: So we've all pledged to watch every single opportunity until before that, right?
40:58 --> 40:58 [SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely.
41:00 --> 41:03 [SPEAKER_02]: I'm trying to think, what is I've actually, I have watched most of them.
41:03 --> 41:05 [SPEAKER_02]: There are some, like, in the pit I haven't watched.
41:06 --> 41:06 [SPEAKER_02]: I guess I, yeah.
41:06 --> 41:07 [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if I'll die.
41:08 --> 41:10 [SPEAKER_05]: I might have to get my clockwork orange set up out.
41:10 --> 41:12 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, or they didn't.
41:13 --> 41:14 [SPEAKER_05]: Well, I've never seen that movie.
41:14 --> 41:17 [SPEAKER_05]: So you can tell that's me because I can't read.
41:19 --> 41:22 [SPEAKER_05]: Basically, we'll just pry your eyeballs open and force feed you.
41:22 --> 41:23 [SPEAKER_05]: Of course, of course, if you need you.
41:26 --> 41:27 [SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, in the meantime, what else?
41:27 --> 41:29 [SPEAKER_02]: We just finished up murder bat.
41:29 --> 41:30 [SPEAKER_02]: We just shouted that out.
41:30 --> 41:31 [SPEAKER_02]: Season one done.
41:31 --> 41:32 [SPEAKER_02]: Season two, Greenland.
41:32 --> 41:33 [SPEAKER_02]: Everybody watch it.
41:34 --> 41:39 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, John, you and Marilyn, you are deep into recording foundation season three.
41:39 --> 41:43 [SPEAKER_02]: We just beginning watching it, but so far after we could start.
41:43 --> 41:44 [SPEAKER_03]: David is insane.
41:45 --> 41:46 [SPEAKER_03]: I've learned this season.
41:46 --> 41:53 [SPEAKER_03]: Is that the entire not just us, but like the entire world seems to be loving the season and David's over here on his island.
41:53 --> 41:53 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
41:53 --> 41:55 [SPEAKER_03]: Being cranky about it.
41:55 --> 41:57 [SPEAKER_05]: Remember I was cranky about the severance finite finale as well.
41:57 --> 41:58 [SPEAKER_05]: So it's true.
41:58 --> 41:59 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
41:59 --> 41:59 [SPEAKER_02]: It's true.
41:59 --> 42:00 [SPEAKER_02]: We all have her.
42:00 --> 42:01 [SPEAKER_05]: But I'm loved.
42:01 --> 42:01 [SPEAKER_05]: I loved the bear.
42:02 --> 42:04 [SPEAKER_05]: I absolutely loved season four of the bear.
42:04 --> 42:05 [SPEAKER_05]: So all right.
42:05 --> 42:05 [SPEAKER_02]: I can't wait to get there.
42:06 --> 42:09 [SPEAKER_03]: Well, I've read five as a mob novels in the last, like, yeah.
42:09 --> 42:09 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
42:10 --> 42:10 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
42:10 --> 42:10 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
42:11 --> 42:15 [SPEAKER_02]: I've watched a ton of Superman and Val Kilmer movies recently.
42:15 --> 42:16 [SPEAKER_02]: That's where my time has been going.
42:17 --> 42:17 [SPEAKER_03]: Very nice.
42:17 --> 42:19 [SPEAKER_03]: Well, save it for second breakfast.
42:19 --> 42:22 [SPEAKER_03]: Let's all talk about our various hyper fixations there.
42:24 --> 42:27 [SPEAKER_02]: It's a David, you're going to be covering Alien Earth.
42:27 --> 42:28 [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if you want to.
42:28 --> 42:29 [SPEAKER_02]: Sure.
42:29 --> 42:29 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
42:29 --> 42:29 [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
42:29 --> 42:31 [SPEAKER_05]: I'm going to do it Squadron style.
42:31 --> 42:32 [SPEAKER_05]: We're going to have a rotating guest host.
42:32 --> 42:35 [SPEAKER_05]: Because a number of people have expressed
42:36 --> 42:56 [SPEAKER_05]: interest, but because of schedules and life, and then, you know, so we decided, I decided, hey, let's just do a kind of a little rotation, and I'm going to lead off with you in Luke, Alicia, to open it up, and Ron is in, and Ian, and Iisha, and I got to figure out the rest schedule, but it shouldn't be kind of fun.
42:57 --> 42:58 [SPEAKER_05]: looking forward to it.
42:58 --> 43:01 [SPEAKER_05]: It seems really interesting and it's getting some good good buzz to start off.
43:01 --> 43:02 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
43:02 --> 43:09 [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I know a Crawley, he did one of my favorite shows of all time, Legion, and I know and Fargo, I know is a favorite.
43:09 --> 43:13 [SPEAKER_02]: I still haven't gotten to watch that, but I know a lot of people you love.
43:13 --> 43:16 [SPEAKER_05]: You think you're list of, I haven't gotten to watch on this episode.
43:16 --> 43:19 [SPEAKER_02]: I mean there's so many shows and I watch so much.
43:20 --> 43:26 [SPEAKER_03]: At least you need to do a day of like standing in front of a fireplace with a list of movies and just deciding which ones go into the place.
43:27 --> 43:28 [SPEAKER_03]: Each of the ones I will never watch.
43:29 --> 43:45 [SPEAKER_02]: I do that every year with my annual list like right now I have like four hundred movies on my twenty twenty five movies and once the years over and I see which have gotten nominations and stuff there is there is a feeding into the flames of like yeah not my genre not gonna be watched nope nope nope
43:50 --> 43:54 [SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, and so yeah, we're going to join you to start Alien Earth.
43:54 --> 44:01 [SPEAKER_02]: And then the week after that Jean Aaron and I are going to be starting peacemaker season two, which I am super excited about.
44:01 --> 44:11 [SPEAKER_02]: It's like Alien Earth and peacemaker are two shows that I'm potentially saving space in my top ten four because that's my top ten's already really crowded this year.
44:12 --> 44:12 [SPEAKER_05]: Cool.
44:13 --> 44:14 [SPEAKER_02]: So I'm really excited.
44:14 --> 44:18 [SPEAKER_05]: That would be a fun coverage with you and Jean and Aaron.
44:18 --> 44:18 [SPEAKER_05]: That's great.
44:19 --> 44:21 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, we're doing crossover with radioactive ramlings.
44:21 --> 44:22 [SPEAKER_05]: Perfect, love it.
44:23 --> 44:27 [SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, speaking of genre, we have our Superman coverage is already out.
44:27 --> 44:29 [SPEAKER_02]: We've got fantastic four first steps.
44:29 --> 44:31 [SPEAKER_02]: The movies being released this weekend.
44:31 --> 44:34 [SPEAKER_02]: So look out for a breakdown next week.
44:35 --> 44:41 [SPEAKER_02]: And Isabel Condos also coming out for part mini series drops at once in August.
44:42 --> 44:53 [SPEAKER_02]: And if you have thoughts about any of these things, or thoughts about the rest of our enemies coverage, please send that to lorehounds at the lorehounds.com, and we also have chat on our discord.
44:54 --> 45:04 [SPEAKER_02]: That's, you'll find the link in the link tree in the show notes, and there's words chat going on under season all, and also under general television, where we've been talking about the eminominations, so jump in and join us.
45:06 --> 45:08 [SPEAKER_02]: David, what's going on in Supercast and Patreon?
45:09 --> 45:19 [SPEAKER_05]: Great, quick shout out before I do that before a quick shout out for the Bayer season four Ron and I got together and just sort of talked about our thoughts of feelings about the season.
45:19 --> 45:31 [SPEAKER_05]: And I've got an interview with Tansie Gardham coming out on her latest podcast about going dread, talking about the twenty twenty twelve dread film paired with a movie called The Raid.
45:31 --> 45:36 [SPEAKER_05]: And so we have a really interesting conversation about the movie industry and Alex Garland and stuff like that.
45:36 --> 45:37 [SPEAKER_05]: So that should be out this week.
45:37 --> 45:40 [SPEAKER_05]: Super guest and Patreon.
45:43 --> 45:43 [SPEAKER_05]: Give us your love.
45:46 --> 45:49 [SPEAKER_05]: The season pass for Andor is still open.
45:49 --> 45:51 [SPEAKER_05]: We've gotten a few folks trickling in.
45:51 --> 45:52 [SPEAKER_05]: It seems like the numbers are up on that.
45:52 --> 45:54 [SPEAKER_05]: I guess people are finally catching around.
45:54 --> 45:55 [SPEAKER_05]: It's kind of funny to watch that.
45:56 --> 46:00 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, at least you were looking at our numbers and you're like, people are just listening to our backlog right now.
46:01 --> 46:01 [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
46:01 --> 46:03 [SPEAKER_03]: It's not like things happened before really.
46:03 --> 46:03 [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
46:04 --> 46:04 [SPEAKER_05]: It's cool.
46:05 --> 46:25 [SPEAKER_05]: We have a new format of a show called what you're watching and it's a fun thing where we get to do sort of twenty minutes and this is subscriber exclusive so if we pick it up on a show that we really want to talk to somebody about we can so we've got life of Chuck Alicia you and Marilyn talked about that you and I then talked about the eternaut
46:26 --> 46:30 [SPEAKER_05]: John and I talked about Avenue Q and then we also talked about predator killer killers.
46:30 --> 46:37 [SPEAKER_05]: So that's a fun little some late snacking material for the subscribers.
46:37 --> 46:39 [SPEAKER_05]: And then coming up for second breakfast.
46:40 --> 46:41 [SPEAKER_05]: We're going to be recording that next week.
46:42 --> 46:52 [SPEAKER_05]: And then for our Lebanese monthly movie poll, you Alicia had Val Kilmer film festival and the one film that you regret putting on the list.
46:54 --> 46:54 [SPEAKER_02]: One.
46:55 --> 47:00 [SPEAKER_05]: So you're talking about the Michael Mann film Heat, which is a small part in.
47:02 --> 47:03 [SPEAKER_02]: I squeezed in.
47:03 --> 47:18 [SPEAKER_02]: I watched all the Val Kilmer movies anyway, and I squeezed in some bio stuff, especially from his highly recommend his documentary from twenty twenty one called Val, which is just a really surprisingly open and vulnerable look back on his life and career.
47:18 --> 47:22 [SPEAKER_02]: And I'm glad he got to tell his own story before he passed away.
47:22 --> 47:25 [SPEAKER_02]: But then heat is going to be mostly about Michael Mann.
47:27 --> 47:29 [SPEAKER_02]: I am listening to heat to the book now.
47:29 --> 47:30 [SPEAKER_05]: Oh, interesting.
47:30 --> 47:33 [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, and there's going to be a sequel, I guess, coming up soon, so.
47:33 --> 47:35 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it'll be based on this book.
47:35 --> 47:36 [SPEAKER_05]: But where's Val Kilmer?
47:37 --> 47:50 [SPEAKER_02]: Well, so the rumor is that it's to the book is a sequel and a prequel at the same time, and the rumor is, and I don't know if like the timelines worked out or whatever, but at one point there was talk about Ryan Gosling playing the younger version of Al Kilmer.
47:50 --> 47:51 [SPEAKER_02]: Interesting.
47:51 --> 47:51 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
47:53 --> 47:54 [SPEAKER_03]: I'm sick of looking at Ryan Gosling.
47:54 --> 47:55 [SPEAKER_03]: I'm sick of looking at Pedro Pascal.
47:55 --> 47:57 [SPEAKER_03]: Can we be honest about this?
47:57 --> 47:59 [SPEAKER_03]: Dude is like three movies out this month.
48:00 --> 48:05 [SPEAKER_03]: I, I, you know, when you were talking about fantasy, I saw an ad for fantastic for it.
48:05 --> 48:09 [SPEAKER_03]: And I was like, dude, you're very talented, but I'm kind of sick of looking at you by now.
48:10 --> 48:11 [SPEAKER_02]: Go on vacation.
48:12 --> 48:12 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, exactly.
48:13 --> 48:15 [SPEAKER_02]: No, I love Pedro Pascal, but yeah, I understand.
48:15 --> 48:17 [SPEAKER_02]: I understand that.
48:18 --> 48:19 [SPEAKER_02]: So, John, what's up with our affiliates?
48:21 --> 48:21 [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, all the things.
48:21 --> 48:24 [SPEAKER_03]: Sorry, I wasn't prepared.

48:36 --> 48:37 [SPEAKER_03]: This is very exciting.
48:37 --> 48:38 [SPEAKER_03]: This is news to me.
48:38 --> 48:39 [SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
48:40 --> 48:43 [SPEAKER_03]: And we've got radioactive ramblings.
48:43 --> 48:51 [SPEAKER_03]: I think they're not releasing much right now, but they have a ton of fallout lore out there to prep you for season two coming out in December, I believe it is.
48:52 --> 48:52 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and in here.
