00:37 --> 00:39 [SPEAKER_02]: Or if I'm just filling in the mood.
00:40 --> 00:44 [SPEAKER_03]: Today we're recapping season one episode one the hedge night.

01:48 --> 01:57 [SPEAKER_01]: Check out our season preview for our coverage plans and backgrounds on the season, but now we're done with that awkward intro that is fitting for this show.
01:57 --> 01:59 [SPEAKER_03]: That was especially awkward, very dug of us.
01:59 --> 02:09 [SPEAKER_01]: I think that was really a very Duncan egg intro because I mean this guy cannot have a conversation without stumbling into something terrifying.
02:10 --> 02:12 [SPEAKER_02]: Mostly we were just here for
02:14 --> 02:14 [SPEAKER_01]: That's right.
02:15 --> 02:16 [SPEAKER_01]: So let's go read into our hot takes Anthony.
02:17 --> 02:28 [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I know you already had your hot take Sunday, but yeah, after watching the episode a couple of times now, I just, just sucks to be a squire in West Rose.
02:28 --> 02:30 [SPEAKER_02]: It's just, you gotta be the worst.
02:30 --> 02:39 [SPEAKER_02]: You picked one of the biggest guys in the village, and you just volunteered to follow him around and let him beat you for a few years.
02:40 --> 03:00 [SPEAKER_02]: And he may or may not decide to elevate you in the nighthood, but he's he'll mock you, he'll slap you and, you know, numerous times, and he might kick you through a fence and call you a worthless rat, I mean the squires in their show are not fairing very well.
03:00 --> 03:06 [SPEAKER_03]: But to be fair, are even the children of nobles and say Game of Thrones or House of the Dragon.
03:08 --> 03:13 [SPEAKER_03]: There are a few loving families in the midst, but in the most cases, that's the same treatment they get as well.
03:14 --> 03:20 [SPEAKER_02]: The physical violence to these squires is just a notch higher, it seems to me.
03:20 --> 03:24 [SPEAKER_03]: Perhaps they're less worried about ruining their square than ruining their air.
03:24 --> 03:29 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you have to fill in the egg wool fair a little bit better for poor random.
03:29 --> 03:30 [SPEAKER_02]: Fossil way.
03:31 --> 03:43 [SPEAKER_01]: Do you, would you rather constantly eat or we salt beef or would you rather have to eat the
03:44 --> 03:45 [SPEAKER_01]: the boulevard.
03:46 --> 03:47 [SPEAKER_02]: Well, okay.
03:47 --> 04:10 [SPEAKER_02]: Look, in one of the sources for this world, what a night does is he's got hardened beef and he takes his helmet, fills it with river water and then soaks the beef in the water for about half an hour to soften it up and then he just eats sloppy steak.
04:12 --> 04:14 [SPEAKER_01]: Uh, well, don't count it every point of traffic.
04:14 --> 04:16 [SPEAKER_02]: It sounds really bad.
04:16 --> 04:18 [SPEAKER_02]: It sounds really bad.
04:18 --> 04:20 [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, people love ballerets.
04:20 --> 04:23 [SPEAKER_02]: It's an acquired taste and you don't know what's in it, but at least people would come and back.
04:25 --> 04:33 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think I will go with the ball of Brown or the mystery community stew as people were calling it when it showed up in Wheel of Time.
04:34 --> 04:37 [SPEAKER_03]: At least I can lie to myself about what's in there.
04:39 --> 04:41 [SPEAKER_01]: But you'll always know the rats in there somewhere.
04:42 --> 04:43 [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I don't eat meat at all.
04:44 --> 04:46 [SPEAKER_03]: So red wouldn't be a bad fee.
04:46 --> 04:48 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't think you can get much of a choice in the bowl brown.
04:48 --> 04:53 [SPEAKER_02]: It might be a head, it might be a head that was on a spike initially.
04:53 --> 04:54 [SPEAKER_02]: That's thrown in the bowl of brown.
04:54 --> 04:55 [SPEAKER_03]: Meat is meat.
04:55 --> 04:57 [SPEAKER_03]: If you're forcing me to eat me, what do I care?
04:59 --> 05:00 [SPEAKER_01]: Need is me.
05:01 --> 05:04 [SPEAKER_01]: I guess you would you would go well with yellow jackets, Alicia.
05:05 --> 05:07 [SPEAKER_01]: What is your color of this for that matter?
05:07 --> 05:13 [SPEAKER_03]: I do often think about how I could be a vegetarian in this world.
05:14 --> 05:16 [SPEAKER_03]: Like how if I went back in time.
05:16 --> 05:27 [SPEAKER_03]: And thankfully, there actually are going back to like Greek times, Pythagoras, and stuff as a vegetarian, the romantics were like Percy Shelley's a vegetarian, but anyway, how did I feel about this very non-vegetarian show?
05:28 --> 05:30 [SPEAKER_03]: I had a shitty, good time.
05:31 --> 05:32 [SPEAKER_03]: We being spoiler free right now.
05:34 --> 05:41 [SPEAKER_01]: We'll go a false spoiler right away, because you know, we did our spoiler free preview, and this is all false spoilers.
05:41 --> 05:55 [SPEAKER_03]: a point of clarification spoilers on the first episode yes yes of course episode of the show not for the books right we have all three of us read the books but we are not going to spoil that unless we do at the end of this episode i don't know if you set that up
05:56 --> 05:58 [SPEAKER_03]: Um, but yeah, spoilers for this episode.
05:58 --> 06:01 [SPEAKER_03]: I, yeah, I thought it was perfect.
06:01 --> 06:03 [SPEAKER_03]: I thought it was, it was, it was really great.
06:03 --> 06:08 [SPEAKER_03]: The only person I saw who had like the smallest complaint about it was just like I wish there were more egg.
06:08 --> 06:11 [SPEAKER_03]: And I was like, well, don't worry, there will be for the rest of the show.
06:11 --> 06:13 [SPEAKER_03]: So, that was just this episode thing.
06:14 --> 06:19 [SPEAKER_03]: But I really liked how they expanded especially the laughing storm.
06:19 --> 06:25 [SPEAKER_03]: Um, I thought that he was another one who was perfectly cast and that just that whole scene.
06:26 --> 06:43 [SPEAKER_03]: It set up a warm cozy place in the midst of, uh, I would say by the way, people who don't want to be spoiled and who haven't yet watched the weeks ahead don't watch that trailer, but for those who have, you know, that there's some brutal stuff coming up as is, want in this universe.
06:44 --> 06:46 [SPEAKER_03]: And so it's nice to have this.
06:46 --> 06:54 [SPEAKER_03]: cozy moment to begin with where we get to see who Dunk is at his best and at his most awkward right next to each other.
06:57 --> 06:58 [SPEAKER_03]: So I like what about you?
06:59 --> 06:59 [SPEAKER_01]: Great.
06:59 --> 07:01 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I thought it was great.
07:01 --> 07:03 [SPEAKER_01]: If it's up, they'd nail the tone.
07:03 --> 07:05 [SPEAKER_01]: They made me laugh.
07:06 --> 07:13 [SPEAKER_01]: I did listen to, I shouldn't have done this, but I listened to Anthony and David's hot takes before I watched the episode.
07:13 --> 07:14 [SPEAKER_01]: Oh.
07:14 --> 07:17 [SPEAKER_01]: Because I was like, I know the plot already.
07:18 --> 07:19 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
07:19 --> 07:21 [SPEAKER_01]: But I wish I had been surprised.
07:22 --> 07:23 [SPEAKER_01]: I thought it was so stupid.
07:23 --> 07:29 [SPEAKER_01]: But anyway, it's because I've been cleaning out a house that I'm, you know, my mother's house.
07:29 --> 07:30 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm trying to sell.
07:30 --> 07:33 [SPEAKER_01]: And like, I just needed to lay down and close my eyes.
07:33 --> 07:34 [SPEAKER_01]: But I was like, I really want to watch the show.
07:34 --> 07:35 [SPEAKER_01]: I'll just listen to Anthony.
07:35 --> 07:39 [SPEAKER_01]: It's the entity and David describe it in my ears.
07:40 --> 07:50 [SPEAKER_01]: as soon as he talked about like the theme going into shitting, I was like, I wish I had watched that first.
07:50 --> 07:51 [SPEAKER_02]: It was a little bit shocking.
07:52 --> 08:05 [SPEAKER_02]: It made me laugh out loud, and I think it only works if you know that the music that is swelling up behind them in that hero shot,
08:06 --> 08:16 [SPEAKER_02]: It's meant to make you feel a certain way like everything's possible for this guy He's down on his left now, but maybe just maybe he'll ascend to the iron throne in the nope.
08:17 --> 08:23 [SPEAKER_02]: No, no This is not that show And that's a different like disinterrey.
08:23 --> 08:24 [SPEAKER_01]: It's actually over.
08:24 --> 08:33 [SPEAKER_01]: It was just a one one shot You've lost the right in trail of West rose Opening shot
08:33 --> 08:46 [SPEAKER_02]: full-on rain, just full-on rain, a corpse, a grave, a shallow grave at that, and yeah, yeah, just like the book, and yet.
08:47 --> 09:05 [SPEAKER_02]: It just, the rest of the show just, it just lit so well and you just think, it just, it feels, it feels, it feels, it feels, it feels like, who are these, who are these delightful heroes that I'm meeting for the first time and why do they exist in Mark's world?
09:06 --> 09:07 [SPEAKER_02]: They just seem so out of place.
09:10 --> 09:22 [SPEAKER_01]: I know, but I, I am very excited to see where it goes because I think it does still feel like Westerners to me and everything, even though it's joyful, it all feels dangerous and I think that's right.
09:23 --> 09:28 [SPEAKER_01]: Like it does feel like don't could like bump into the run person and get his head cut off the like five minutes.
09:30 --> 09:31 [SPEAKER_01]: So I'm happy with it.
09:32 --> 09:33 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm ready to talk about it.
09:33 --> 09:34 [SPEAKER_01]: Let's get right
09:36 --> 09:38 [SPEAKER_01]: We start off with goodbye, Sir Arlin.
09:38 --> 09:42 [SPEAKER_01]: A young night named Dunk berries his late master, Sir Arlin, a penitree.
09:43 --> 09:52 [SPEAKER_01]: He contemplates his next move with his three horses and decides to go on a grand adventure or starting with the turning at Asperg Meadow, but not before he clears the palace.
09:53 --> 09:55 [SPEAKER_03]: Listen, it's important.
09:56 --> 09:57 [SPEAKER_01]: It is, you know?
09:57 --> 09:58 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it is.
09:59 --> 09:59 [SPEAKER_03]: I don't know.
10:00 --> 10:04 [SPEAKER_01]: There was this token, quote, I forgot what it was.
10:05 --> 10:08 [SPEAKER_01]: I forgot exactly how he phrased it, but he beat up people and said, why aren't there sex in your books?
10:08 --> 10:10 [SPEAKER_01]: He's like, well, I don't show everything people do.
10:11 --> 10:12 [SPEAKER_01]: Like, I don't show them pooping.
10:13 --> 10:15 [SPEAKER_01]: And Marty goes, hold my beer.
10:16 --> 10:18 [SPEAKER_01]: Let me show you all.
10:18 --> 10:21 [SPEAKER_02]: You know what, it's not, that makes a lot of sense.
10:21 --> 10:22 [SPEAKER_02]: I've never heard that quote before.
10:23 --> 10:27 [SPEAKER_02]: But one of the ways that you determine high fantasy,
10:28 --> 10:35 [SPEAKER_02]: from other kinds of fantastic storytelling is the question of whether the character is poop or not.
10:37 --> 10:41 [SPEAKER_02]: This is sort of a conversation that literary theorists have.
10:42 --> 10:47 [SPEAKER_02]: Is your, are your character, do your characters live in a world where poop happens?
10:47 --> 10:53 [SPEAKER_02]: And a lot of times, you, you know, like in Tolkien, they just don't.
10:53 --> 10:55 [SPEAKER_02]: They don't, it's, it's not this kind of thing.
10:55 --> 10:56 [SPEAKER_03]: You don't think the Hobbit's poop?
10:56 --> 11:01 [SPEAKER_02]: Of course they do, but is there any evidence, you know?
11:01 --> 11:02 [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, the elves don't poop.
11:02 --> 11:05 [SPEAKER_02]: That's for sure.
11:05 --> 11:08 [SPEAKER_02]: I know that Elrond doesn't think his shit stinks.
11:08 --> 11:08 [SPEAKER_03]: Right.
11:10 --> 11:13 [SPEAKER_01]: And yet, there are still no bathrooms in Rivendale, then there are in New York City.
11:16 --> 11:24 [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, because every waterfall is a bathroom, it's almost a determining genre, it's a genre indicator.
11:25 --> 11:35 [SPEAKER_02]: And then, of course, the show is, the show seems to be the kind of show where it might see an explosive, a moment of explosive diarrhea.
11:35 --> 11:38 [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, at least nobody got shot while pooping.
11:38 --> 11:42 [SPEAKER_03]: So this is not as low as it goes in short.
11:42 --> 11:44 [SPEAKER_02]: I remind you, of course it's wrong.
11:44 --> 11:45 [SPEAKER_02]: I'm just trying to film you.
11:46 --> 11:52 [SPEAKER_01]: You didn't want to see just one one spec of Briar and go right into a blinking horse eye anyway.
11:53 --> 12:20 [SPEAKER_03]: or should the robin have been knocked out of the tree by, you know, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose, loose,
12:20 --> 12:33 [SPEAKER_03]: a talk of having a conversation with two people leaning over a trough like that pooping and talking because obviously that was a real thing that would happen but then someone would fall in and they decided against that so that was them showing restraint.
12:35 --> 12:36 [SPEAKER_02]: You mentioned the horses.
12:36 --> 12:40 [SPEAKER_02]: I feel like people will want to know these horses have names.
12:41 --> 12:45 [SPEAKER_02]: Sweetfoot thunder and old chestnut.
12:46 --> 12:50 [SPEAKER_02]: And of course, you know, does Dunk really need three horses?
12:50 --> 12:53 [SPEAKER_02]: You know, that's the question, you know what?
12:53 --> 12:56 [SPEAKER_02]: And should a night ever really get too attached to his horses?
12:57 --> 13:00 [SPEAKER_02]: It's another question that we have answer.
13:00 --> 13:03 [SPEAKER_02]: But we have a quite, we don't have quite enough information to answer those yet.
13:04 --> 13:07 [SPEAKER_02]: But I know that people get attached to animals, show.
13:08 --> 13:19 [SPEAKER_03]: But he did say, you know, if I could sell the three of you and eat royally for however much time, they are more valuable than anything else he has.
13:19 --> 13:20 [SPEAKER_03]: That's right.
13:21 --> 13:27 [SPEAKER_01]: Well, those forces have to get into stable and dunk arrives at the end and gives a bald young stable boy his horses.
13:28 --> 13:36 [SPEAKER_01]: Inside he learns asford, meadows is a day away, but draws the eyeer of a drunken patron who claims to have seen dunk in his dreams.
13:37 --> 13:42 [SPEAKER_01]: Outside the stable boy asks dunk to squire for him in the turny, but dunk refuses.
13:42 --> 13:46 [SPEAKER_01]: He tosses the boy a copper before riding off with brush-outs.
13:47 --> 13:47 [UNKNOWN]: Hmm.
13:47 --> 13:50 [SPEAKER_03]: So question for you guys about Ashford Meadows.
13:51 --> 13:59 [SPEAKER_03]: This did this conversation to come a little bit later, but someone seemed to imply, who was it who was talking about the history of jousting?
13:59 --> 14:03 [SPEAKER_03]: And was it was it, what's his face or at the end?
14:03 --> 14:05 [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, yeah.
14:05 --> 14:12 [SPEAKER_03]: And he seemed to imply that the first joust was there at Ashford Meadows or did I misunderstand that?
14:12 --> 14:15 [SPEAKER_02]: That's what he was implying.
14:15 --> 14:31 [SPEAKER_02]: I think that this is a show only detail, because I search around for this, and it doesn't seem like there's a mythology that has been sort of put forth by Mark suggesting that this is sort of the birthplace of jazz.
14:32 --> 14:34 [SPEAKER_02]: But of course, as we know with
14:35 --> 14:36 [SPEAKER_02]: any kind of myth making.
14:36 --> 14:38 [SPEAKER_02]: Does it really matter?
14:40 --> 14:41 [SPEAKER_02]: Does it really matter where it comes from?
14:41 --> 14:52 [SPEAKER_03]: But I guess it makes, um, you know, if this is those sort of anniversary, it also explains why there's some really high-born people there as well in this backwater place.
14:54 --> 14:55 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's a good question.
14:56 --> 14:57 [SPEAKER_02]: Why are the Targaryens?
14:58 --> 15:01 [SPEAKER_02]: Why are Targaryens
15:01 --> 15:07 [SPEAKER_01]: Well, I think the attorney is like the level up events of these no wolves, right?
15:07 --> 15:18 [SPEAKER_01]: Like they have to have to prove themselves in some attorneys to be taken a little more seriously if they are at the lower houses, but I guess the Targaryens, I don't know, there's enough of them where maybe they do want to prove themselves.
15:19 --> 15:21 [SPEAKER_02]: Well, and there are no more dragons, right?
15:21 --> 15:25 [SPEAKER_02]: So how do you prove yourself in peace time?
15:26 --> 15:27 [SPEAKER_02]: Is everything has been conquered?
15:29 --> 15:34 [SPEAKER_02]: You don't have these great magical beasts to strike awe into the common folk.
15:35 --> 15:39 [SPEAKER_02]: Maybe you have to demonstrate a little bit of martial prowess.
15:40 --> 15:44 [SPEAKER_03]: It's a hit other rich boys off horses with big sticks.
15:45 --> 15:46 [SPEAKER_02]: It's true, it's right.
15:46 --> 15:47 [SPEAKER_02]: It's right.
15:47 --> 15:49 [SPEAKER_01]: What do we think of Mr. Gold Dragon?
15:49 --> 15:53 [SPEAKER_01]: This is where I wish David were here because we need a non-book reader to speculate on this.
15:55 --> 15:57 [SPEAKER_02]: Mr. Gold Dragon, not a lot to go on here.
15:57 --> 16:11 [SPEAKER_02]: I think that there's just enough clues in this little bit to leave most viewers to speculate on like, what house he's from and, easy.
16:12 --> 16:15 [SPEAKER_02]: Is this connected to the to Kings Landing at all?
16:15 --> 16:20 [SPEAKER_02]: You know, these are questions that it seemed to seem to come about.
16:20 --> 16:21 [SPEAKER_02]: Now, here's the issue.
16:23 --> 16:35 [SPEAKER_02]: A gold dragon on the table for, I don't know how much, how much ale was involved and a bed upstairs.
16:35 --> 16:48 [SPEAKER_02]: That's, that's a pretty pretty, you know, for a, for an establishment where you don't even get a clean cup to drink out of, that's a, that's a big, she, he did she drank right out of it before revealing.
16:48 --> 16:50 [SPEAKER_03]: That's right.
16:50 --> 16:51 [SPEAKER_02]: That's right.
16:51 --> 16:51 [SPEAKER_02]: That's right.
16:52 --> 17:04 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, no, he's he's a big spender and, you know, it kind of also, you know, you juxtaposed that coin against the copper that's thrown it.
17:04 --> 17:17 [SPEAKER_02]: uh... the the the stable boys feet um... at this point in the story you're like these coins seem to be of entirely different monetary family
17:18 --> 17:26 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I know David's talking about it in the discord, and yeah, that's, that's, you know, the copper versus the gold right it's a pay would take somebody.
17:26 --> 17:27 [SPEAKER_01]: I just looked it up.
17:27 --> 17:28 [SPEAKER_03]: Like a hundred.
17:28 --> 17:34 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it would take 1 of those copper stars.
17:34 --> 17:35 [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, okay.
17:35 --> 17:36 [SPEAKER_02]: One golden dragon.
17:36 --> 17:45 [SPEAKER_03]: Alright, so that I've seen people pointing out two things about Mr. Gold Dragon, so we're safe to point them out.
17:46 --> 17:55 [SPEAKER_03]: One is that he talked about a dream, and of course we know by now anyone who has been around Westeros before knows that dreams are always worth paying attention to.
17:57 --> 17:59 [SPEAKER_03]: So he said, what did he say?
17:59 --> 18:06 [SPEAKER_03]: He said, basically accusing Donk of like being after him or
18:06 --> 18:10 [SPEAKER_03]: Um, and then the other thing people notice is that he was carrying a certain dagger.
18:10 --> 18:15 [SPEAKER_03]: Now this would be a show thing, but people wondered if they recognized the dagger.
18:17 --> 18:17 [SPEAKER_02]: I did not.
18:18 --> 18:19 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I did not recognize the dead.
18:20 --> 18:20 [SPEAKER_02]: I paused.
18:20 --> 18:21 [SPEAKER_02]: I looked.
18:21 --> 18:21 [SPEAKER_02]: I studied.
18:21 --> 18:26 [SPEAKER_02]: I don't think that this is a dagger I've seen.
18:26 --> 18:29 [SPEAKER_01]: I think in your hot take with David, he raises at the Caspar, but it's definitely not the Caspar.
18:29 --> 18:33 [SPEAKER_01]: Now that I, when I watched it thinking of that, I was like, this is not the Caspar dagger.
18:33 --> 18:37 [SPEAKER_01]: but, you know, you'll see, maybe we'll find out what it is.
18:38 --> 18:40 [SPEAKER_03]: But he has blonde hair and he has dreams.
18:42 --> 18:46 [SPEAKER_01]: I wonder who he could be and go dragons.
18:47 --> 18:59 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's, you know, they're not being subtle about this, but that's okay because I don't think that they need to be subtle about this, like there, there are, this is the Martin's three step reveal is like if you're paying attention to this universe, sure, you understand.
18:59 --> 19:04 [SPEAKER_01]: And then if this is for some reason, the first thing that somebody consumes in West Rose, maybe they will be surprised.
19:05 --> 19:07 [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, but what's to be, he's called a Lord.
19:07 --> 19:11 [SPEAKER_03]: He's an, I mean, he's acknowledges an important Lord by Duncan.
19:11 --> 19:11 [SPEAKER_03]: Right.
19:12 --> 19:23 [SPEAKER_02]: Just on well on top of that, when Duncan gets to Ashford Meadow and talks to Mr. Master of games, he says there's princes about.
19:23 --> 19:25 [SPEAKER_06]: Mm-hmm.
19:25 --> 19:25 [SPEAKER_02]: All right.
19:25 --> 19:34 [SPEAKER_02]: So that's, you know, specifically, the title Prince is connected to a particular house with country.
19:34 --> 19:37 [SPEAKER_03]: with the long-tare and dreams.
19:40 --> 19:46 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, um, and uh, you know, we have the appearance of Egg for the first time.
19:46 --> 19:47 [SPEAKER_01]: We know his name from later in the episode.
19:48 --> 19:48 [SPEAKER_01]: Uh-huh.
19:48 --> 19:54 [SPEAKER_01]: What was everybody's first impression of Egg that portrayal, you know, perfect, or appreciation?
19:55 --> 19:57 [SPEAKER_02]: I was a little skeptical on first.
19:57 --> 19:58 [SPEAKER_02]: I think.
19:58 --> 20:11 [SPEAKER_02]: Early on I was thinking I don't know if this is working and I don't feel like it was until the end of the episode that I actually felt like Okay, all right, you can be a This is this is gonna be fine
20:12 --> 20:23 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he does, I think he sells it at the end when he's, you know, trying to not get a club in the ear and he's kind of smirking as Dunk acknowledges what he said, I think that was, that was probably the best moment.
20:23 --> 20:27 [SPEAKER_01]: His voice is very high and it just like surprised me the first time he spoke.
20:27 --> 20:28 [SPEAKER_03]: He's a child.
20:29 --> 20:32 [SPEAKER_01]: I know he's a child and I have children, but my children are smaller than that, so I don't know.
20:33 --> 20:36 [SPEAKER_02]: When I'm all smokers, they're all chain smokers.
20:50 --> 21:16 [SPEAKER_02]: She was a little bit taken out of this by egg and the reason why she thought it just seems too close to avatar the last airbender and she just she just she just could not see He's just too much like ang yes, that's right and you know, ang egg, you know, it's it's sort of like just I think it's just a coincidence.
21:16 --> 21:16 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
21:17 --> 21:17 [SPEAKER_02]: Right.
21:18 --> 21:21 [SPEAKER_02]: But at the same time, she was like, ah, derivative.
21:22 --> 21:26 [SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, I guess that I didn't never even occur.
21:26 --> 21:39 [SPEAKER_03]: No, but I think it's also what probably, hopefully, she'll lose that feeling as she gets to know him more because I don't, because I guess they are cheeky characters, both of them, Eng and Eng.
21:39 --> 21:40 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's right.
21:41 --> 21:42 [SPEAKER_02]: They're about the same age, right?
21:42 --> 21:43 [SPEAKER_03]: They're about the same age.
21:43 --> 21:44 [SPEAKER_03]: They're cheeky characters.
21:44 --> 21:45 [SPEAKER_03]: One has a blue arrow.
21:45 --> 21:46 [SPEAKER_03]: This one does not.
21:47 --> 21:57 [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, for me, I thought Egg was perfectly what I was expecting, but I can't really elaborate on that too much yet at this point until we get to know Egg a little bit better.
21:57 --> 22:15 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, because, you know, it's not really a spoiler to say we're going to find out more about his life and I think that that determines a lot of things about him that I was paying attention to in this first introduction and I felt like that part was nailed just you know in sort of.
22:16 --> 22:17 [SPEAKER_03]: him being who I expected to be.
22:17 --> 22:18 [SPEAKER_03]: I don't know.
22:18 --> 22:26 [SPEAKER_03]: And I just love I've been I have to say I've been going down the rabbit hole of watching the interviews between the two actors and they are just delightful together.
22:26 --> 22:32 [SPEAKER_03]: They go to the arcade like every day and they are saving up tickets to get him a PS5.
22:32 --> 22:40 [SPEAKER_03]: And I just love their dynamics off-screen and warming you know on an interview screen and also in this show.
22:40 --> 22:46 [SPEAKER_03]: I just think it's exactly what I was hoping for,
22:46 --> 22:54 [SPEAKER_02]: I liked the exchange that they have when he's on the horse.
22:55 --> 22:58 [SPEAKER_02]: It's like, he's dressed up like a knight.
23:00 --> 23:01 [SPEAKER_02]: He's on the horse.
23:01 --> 23:02 [SPEAKER_02]: He's pretending.
23:02 --> 23:03 [SPEAKER_02]: He's a kid.
23:04 --> 23:06 [SPEAKER_02]: He's playing pretend on horseback.
23:07 --> 23:07 [SPEAKER_02]: He's playing dress up.
23:09 --> 23:15 [SPEAKER_02]: And when Dunk walks in and yells at him,
23:16 --> 23:34 [SPEAKER_02]: And the exchange that they have is very older brother, younger brother kind of exchange and I think that it's helpful to remember that I think we're supposed to assume that dunk isn't more than a teenager.
23:35 --> 23:41 [SPEAKER_03]: In the books he's not, but he's definitely played by, I think the actor is almost 30 and I can't.
23:41 --> 23:42 [SPEAKER_03]: That's right.
23:42 --> 23:51 [SPEAKER_02]: Do they want us to feel that he is just really big for his age and he's actually just kind of come into his adulthood?
23:52 --> 23:56 [SPEAKER_03]: I think they've just aged him up as they do with a lot of characters in the show.
23:56 --> 24:00 [SPEAKER_03]: And honestly for me, I prefer that way like I get.
24:00 --> 24:30 [SPEAKER_03]: I mean okay so the idea about him being a teenager is of course he's a squire who hasn't been knighted but isn't there something interesting about the fact if he is in his twenties and still hasn't been knighted then and you know that whole scene we saw in our cut where he's remembering asking Arlin if he'll ever knight him and he just kind of changes the subject you know that takes on a whole new dimension and doesn't change a subject choose and spits
24:30 --> 24:36 [SPEAKER_01]: Right, okay, I have to say this is quite a wet episode.
24:36 --> 24:44 [SPEAKER_01]: A lot of bodily fluids just fly everywhere, moist moist people love that word.
24:44 --> 24:45 [SPEAKER_03]: You should say ever.
24:45 --> 24:46 [SPEAKER_01]: I've never felt much moisture.
24:47 --> 24:59 [SPEAKER_03]: Anthony, you, I have talked about, you know, I've listened to your coverage of these stories and you have talked about something that I hadn't necessarily fully considered before, which is the question of
24:59 --> 25:02 [SPEAKER_03]: is dunk telling the truth when he says or Arlin knighted him.
25:03 --> 25:09 [SPEAKER_03]: And I always kind of thought, I guess at the books, like, sure, yeah, sure, or why not.
25:09 --> 25:12 [SPEAKER_03]: But now with the show, I'm thinking, I don't think so.
25:12 --> 25:15 [SPEAKER_03]: I think that is dunk's one and only lie in life.
25:16 --> 25:18 [SPEAKER_02]: So I think it's interesting.
25:18 --> 25:27 [SPEAKER_02]: I think that one of the interviews I heard with the show runner is that they thought that they would leave it intentionally and beg you and beg you us.
25:28 --> 25:45 [SPEAKER_02]: Um, so if you're going to leave it ambiguous, it feels like I'm, if that's the case, I'm going to revert to book content and if I'm using my sort of bookish eyes on this show,
25:47 --> 25:53 [SPEAKER_02]: I think that there are several indicators that Dunk never was dubbed.
25:54 --> 25:57 [SPEAKER_02]: But then the question is, well, what is a night?
25:57 --> 26:05 [SPEAKER_02]: Is a night someone who's made a vow before the gods, or is a night someone who does just us and defends the innocent?
26:06 --> 26:12 [SPEAKER_02]: And I think that you're going to meet several voices throughout the show.
26:13 --> 26:15 [SPEAKER_02]: that have a different view on nighthood.
26:15 --> 26:28 [SPEAKER_02]: And I think it's up to the reader to come to their own conclusion about whether or not dunk is actually a night, given all of the various definitions that various people have.
26:30 --> 26:36 [SPEAKER_02]: I think by the master of games, I don't think we get his name.
26:37 --> 26:39 [SPEAKER_02]: By his definition,
26:39 --> 26:43 [SPEAKER_02]: Dunk would not be a night because I don't think that I'll never do.
26:45 --> 26:50 [SPEAKER_01]: I think this probably right and I had to say, Sir Arlin was way more of a dick in the show.
26:51 --> 26:51 [SPEAKER_01]: It'd be overgotten.
26:51 --> 26:52 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
26:52 --> 26:59 [SPEAKER_01]: I think that's really because it's not, you know, it's not first person POV, but it's more from Dunk's perspective in the books.
27:00 --> 27:05 [SPEAKER_01]: Whereas here we're getting a little bit more objective view I think.
27:05 --> 27:10 [SPEAKER_01]: and these flashback scenes like this kind of is just a straight up dip.
27:11 --> 27:18 [SPEAKER_03]: But I also wonder if that's just, if that's selected for the first episode to paint him a certain way, and if we'll get more context.
27:18 --> 27:23 [SPEAKER_03]: Cause that's, yeah, someone I was speaking to a friend who hasn't read the books show only.
27:23 --> 27:25 [SPEAKER_03]: And that was the first thing she's like, he's awful.
27:26 --> 27:29 [SPEAKER_03]: And I was like, yeah, I wonder if they will soften that as the season goes on.
27:29 --> 27:33 [SPEAKER_02]: If it's an interesting question, oh, definitely look out for that.
27:34 --> 27:39 [SPEAKER_02]: Here, I was just rereading part of the novella today.
27:39 --> 27:42 [SPEAKER_02]: And this is not a spoiler for anything.
27:42 --> 27:44 [SPEAKER_02]: It just goes to Arlin's character.
27:44 --> 27:53 [SPEAKER_02]: What it says is that Arlin was always generous with his praise because it was the only thing he had to be generous with.
27:55 --> 28:01 [SPEAKER_02]: You know, basically to say it look Arlin, a penny tree, was kind of a poor hedge night.
28:02 --> 28:06 [SPEAKER_02]: But he would at times lavish praise onto
28:06 --> 28:07 [SPEAKER_02]: his choir.
28:09 --> 28:16 [SPEAKER_02]: In this show, Arlin has no speaking lines aside from yelling in agony.
28:16 --> 28:21 [SPEAKER_02]: He has no words, he has no words for dunk at all, so far.
28:22 --> 28:23 [SPEAKER_02]: And he speaks with his fist.
28:24 --> 28:34 [SPEAKER_02]: So it's a major character change between what we'd know of Arlin from Dunk's memory in the books versus what we know of
28:35 --> 28:52 [SPEAKER_03]: You know, with this dynamic in the show, kind of reminded me of John was from what we do in the shadows Guillermo, and um, and what's his face was Laslo and Nendor, Nendor and Nendor, yeah, yeah, Nendor is his master.
28:52 --> 28:58 [SPEAKER_03]: Will he ever make me a vampire and then the sort of a abusive slash, yeah.
28:58 --> 29:00 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think you're a fan of that show too, are you?
29:00 --> 29:06 [SPEAKER_02]: I've never seen more than one episode, and it's absolutely absolutely, absolutely.
29:06 --> 29:08 [SPEAKER_02]: I know that I would enjoy it, I've just never got around to it.
29:09 --> 29:16 [SPEAKER_01]: Well, there's a similar why won't he just do it energy in that show, why won't he just turn him?
29:17 --> 29:19 [SPEAKER_01]: And so that's interesting.
29:19 --> 29:20 [SPEAKER_01]: I like that parallelity show, smart.
29:22 --> 29:25 [SPEAKER_01]: Why don't we talk more about dunk's credentials?
29:27 --> 29:39 [SPEAKER_01]: We're on to ask for dunk arrives at Askford Meadows, and attempts to register for the turning is initially rebuffed, but the scribe tells him if he can get another night or
29:39 --> 29:44 [SPEAKER_01]: Dunk is reminded that should he lose, he'll have to rent some back his armor and horse.
29:45 --> 29:52 [SPEAKER_01]: Dunk attempts to find Sir Manford, Dumb Daryan, but is mocked by Manford's nighttime companions.
29:52 --> 29:55 [SPEAKER_01]: I was trying to figure out the proper term to use for them here.
29:56 --> 29:59 [SPEAKER_01]: He decides to return when Sir Manford isn't napping.
30:01 --> 30:04 [SPEAKER_01]: Napping Alpha's Gaudito's.
30:05 --> 30:22 [SPEAKER_02]: I loved the exchange between dunk and the sex workers I think it really shows that he he views himself of a lower station then almost everyone at this tournament like he feels so out of place.
30:22 --> 30:24 [SPEAKER_02]: He's such a fish out of water at this tournament.
30:25 --> 30:30 [SPEAKER_02]: that the only real conversation partner he has that he feels equal with as his horse.
30:32 --> 30:36 [SPEAKER_02]: He does not know how to speak to anyone else.
30:37 --> 30:38 [SPEAKER_02]: And he's just kind of fumbling his way through.
30:38 --> 30:43 [SPEAKER_02]: And of course, they think he's hilarious, you know.
30:43 --> 30:54 [SPEAKER_02]: And I love the, you know, of course, show only flourish, but I love the dynamic between their names are Daisy and,
30:57 --> 30:58 [SPEAKER_02]: Bionie?
30:59 --> 30:59 [SPEAKER_03]: Bionie?
30:59 --> 31:00 [SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
31:00 --> 31:01 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, Bionie.
31:02 --> 31:06 [SPEAKER_02]: And here I'll, I wrote it down.
31:06 --> 31:07 [SPEAKER_02]: I'll make sure I've got it right.
31:08 --> 31:11 [SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, B-E-O-N-Y.
31:11 --> 31:17 [SPEAKER_02]: Okay, Daisy's the red head and the only red hair.
31:17 --> 31:20 [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I guess they're, yeah, they're both, they're no.
31:23 --> 31:26 [SPEAKER_02]: And they've seemed to have a great dynamic.
31:27 --> 31:33 [SPEAKER_02]: They seem to have a certain kind of cynicism that Dunk is not used to.
31:34 --> 31:39 [SPEAKER_02]: And of course, they're both attractive women, which is going to make Dunk feel uncomfortable.
31:40 --> 31:48 [SPEAKER_02]: And I thought that little conversation he has with him does a lot to establish who he is and how naive he is.
31:48 --> 31:55 [SPEAKER_02]: And how earnest he is in comparison to everyone else we're going to meet.
31:56 --> 32:08 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think that whole hedge night like a real-niped satter was David's most quoted line from the trailer, but also I loved in this conversation.
32:08 --> 32:17 [SPEAKER_03]: They kept referring to him as it, like, did man-fred sleep with its wife like, no, all right.
32:17 --> 32:18 [SPEAKER_02]: So that's Daisy.
32:18 --> 32:26 [SPEAKER_02]: And I'm just wondering, do you think that that's Daisy's just preferred way of talking?
32:26 --> 32:29 [SPEAKER_02]: This particular pronoun just a mess with him.
32:29 --> 32:31 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think she's belittling him.
32:31 --> 32:32 [SPEAKER_01]: Okay, all right.
32:32 --> 32:34 [SPEAKER_01]: I think that, but also he's so gigantic.
32:34 --> 32:38 [SPEAKER_01]: I thought it was almost like the the creature has come to claim it's private.
32:40 --> 32:41 [SPEAKER_01]: I took it more like that.
32:42 --> 32:51 [SPEAKER_01]: I really love what you said on the instantic Anthony where you said, this guy is the one honest guy, the one earnest guy in Westeros.
32:52 --> 32:54 [SPEAKER_01]: It just one way to watch the show.
32:54 --> 33:06 [SPEAKER_02]: It does feel like game of thrones is Martin's cynical deconstruction of knighthood in many ways.
33:07 --> 33:12 [SPEAKER_02]: And I feel like this show is almost a subversion of the previous deconstruction.
33:12 --> 33:15 [SPEAKER_02]: It's like, well, what if there was a good knight?
33:15 --> 33:16 [SPEAKER_02]: It would not be kind of fun.
33:17 --> 33:43 [SPEAKER_02]: and so it's almost like our expectations for a game of thrones property is going to have a sea of the laughing storms and you know these cynical sex workers and you know fossil ways who are beating each other bloody and now we're gonna meet our hero and guess what he's he's completely different than anyone else who's great
33:43 --> 33:54 [SPEAKER_03]: And when we've seen good nights or good leaders in previous shows, you know, then they get behedded pretty quickly or you have the redding wedding ruin.
33:56 --> 34:09 [SPEAKER_03]: So yeah, it is something like what if not just what if a good person existed, it's like what if a good person could be recognized for their goodness without immediately being killed for it.
34:10 --> 34:20 [SPEAKER_01]: And I think we see in this episode that, you know, well this show at, like you point out Alicia, this world has often taken advantage of people with an honesty and an innocence of them.
34:21 --> 34:24 [SPEAKER_01]: It can also work in their favor for at least a tall guy.
34:28 --> 34:29 [SPEAKER_01]: What did we think?
34:29 --> 34:32 [SPEAKER_01]: I love the scribe.
34:32 --> 34:35 [SPEAKER_01]: I love, I call him the scribe, but I guess he's the game master, right?
34:36 --> 34:41 [SPEAKER_01]: The guy that dump his signing up with, oh my god, his spitting was so well-tired for comedy.
34:41 --> 34:42 [SPEAKER_01]: Amazing.
34:43 --> 34:48 [SPEAKER_01]: And I love that he messes with him because that wouldn't work on anybody else in this world.
34:48 --> 34:55 [SPEAKER_01]: This whole joke of like, we string you up and whatever else, if you fake your else, then he's like, I'm kidding.
34:55 --> 35:01 [SPEAKER_03]: I feel like that was for the, for the blood thirsty audiences at home.
35:02 --> 35:04 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
35:04 --> 35:06 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it is another way to subvert the story.
35:06 --> 35:12 [SPEAKER_02]: Like where we know what you expect from, you know, you, we know you've been watching how's the dragon.
35:14 --> 35:15 [SPEAKER_02]: Uh, this is not that.
35:16 --> 35:17 [SPEAKER_02]: This is going to take a different tone.
35:17 --> 35:22 [SPEAKER_02]: Uh, I, I thought his jokes kind of felt flat.
35:22 --> 35:30 [SPEAKER_02]: Like I feel like that was the one part of the show that I was a little disappointed at.
35:31 --> 35:39 [SPEAKER_02]: the no-one-clay-clature, like bullshitting, that feels like a more modern, euphemism.
35:40 --> 35:48 [SPEAKER_02]: I don't feel like, I don't feel like that's the kind of thing I would read in the books or here in any of the other shows.
35:49 --> 35:58 [SPEAKER_02]: I felt like you already did the, you already did a couple things to indicate that this show is a little different, and I don't know if I needed
35:59 --> 36:06 [SPEAKER_02]: that guy like explaining to me that he was Joe, but I'd say I laughed a lot of that guy.
36:06 --> 36:07 [SPEAKER_02]: She really loved him.
36:07 --> 36:08 [SPEAKER_02]: I loved his spitting.
36:09 --> 36:13 [SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, and you know, I don't want to yuck someone else's yum.
36:14 --> 36:15 [SPEAKER_02]: Again, little slaps.
36:15 --> 36:19 [SPEAKER_02]: Very moist show, very moist show.
36:19 --> 36:27 [SPEAKER_01]: And it was moist slapstick and, you know, we're slapping around some moist items and making sure that everyone is going home laughing.
36:27 --> 36:48 [SPEAKER_03]: Is this like from super troopers where he has to say Meow is many times as possible did somebody give you that challenge with Moist Did you have did you lose a draft with Anthony and now your punishment is you have Moist as much as how many times that same moist So let me ask you I guess and right in an email.
36:49 --> 36:51 [SPEAKER_02]: I have a question for lesion
36:53 --> 36:54 [SPEAKER_02]: Mr.
36:54 --> 36:59 [SPEAKER_02]: Administrator says, look, my Lord thinks he's a great man.
37:00 --> 37:06 [SPEAKER_02]: God's no why, but there's princes about and so we're sending away.
37:06 --> 37:09 [SPEAKER_02]: Cell Swords and landed nights.
37:11 --> 37:13 [SPEAKER_02]: So on the surface you're like, okay, that makes sense.
37:13 --> 37:16 [SPEAKER_02]: Can you think about a little bit more, you think landed
37:17 --> 37:29 [SPEAKER_02]: you're sending away landed nights like a landed night is a it's a it's a night who's made good a landed night has is a is a night with a whole fast with lands and and in in servants.
37:30 --> 37:33 [SPEAKER_02]: So what would he send away and landed nights?
37:34 --> 37:34 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
37:35 --> 37:41 [SPEAKER_03]: So what room how many what what does that leave room for in terms of what kinds of nights can be there?
37:42 --> 37:49 [SPEAKER_02]: Like just princes, it doesn't make sense because the fossil ways are certainly not lords or whatever.
37:49 --> 37:54 [SPEAKER_02]: And so I wonder if we just have a misunderstanding of what a landed night is or if...
37:55 --> 37:57 [SPEAKER_03]: I'm gonna be honest, I missed that line.
37:57 --> 38:12 [SPEAKER_02]: Okay, I just, I keep sticking on it and I'm thinking maybe, I should not view anyone in this conversation as really having a good handle on
38:12 --> 38:13 [SPEAKER_02]: The Wii tournaments work.
38:14 --> 38:17 [SPEAKER_02]: Like maybe this guy's new to his job, but I don't know.
38:19 --> 38:20 [SPEAKER_01]: It does seem like an oversight, doesn't it?
38:22 --> 38:23 [SPEAKER_02]: A little bit.
38:23 --> 38:30 [SPEAKER_02]: Anyway, that was my only negative experience was Mr. Flem.
38:30 --> 38:32 [SPEAKER_02]: Otherwise, I love the show from start.
38:32 --> 38:39 [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, are they trying to like thin the herd of talent?
38:39 --> 38:42 [SPEAKER_02]: Is that possible?
38:43 --> 38:44 [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
38:44 --> 38:46 [SPEAKER_03]: Do you know to allow certain people to win?
38:46 --> 38:48 [SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
38:49 --> 38:56 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, maybe they've sent away certain landed nights because they don't want the princes to be embarrassed or something.
38:57 --> 39:01 [SPEAKER_01]: Or maybe they just forgot to include hedge lights, if you didn't even think about them because they're so pitiful.
39:02 --> 39:02 [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe so.
39:03 --> 39:06 [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, they have to necessarily be better than a hedge.
39:06 --> 39:06 [SPEAKER_03]: Right.
39:06 --> 39:07 [SPEAKER_03]: Right.
39:07 --> 39:07 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
39:08 --> 39:11 [SPEAKER_03]: They have to have someone there for the nobles to beat.
39:12 --> 39:16 [SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely, and Dunk seems like he's right for the beating.
39:17 --> 39:20 [SPEAKER_01]: He's gotten a lot of clouds to the ear and he's ready to get another one.
39:20 --> 39:38 [SPEAKER_01]: Let's take a quick break and then we will get back to the episode.
39:40 --> 39:49 [SPEAKER_01]: Dunk runs into the gruffs for Stefan Fossaway and his kinder cousin Raymond, but won't be go to it into a fight with Stefan.
39:49 --> 39:52 [SPEAKER_01]: Instead he finds a quiet tree and pond to watch off his stinking.
39:53 --> 39:57 [SPEAKER_01]: Dunk is again a rebuffed by the companions of Sirmanford and unable to see him.
39:58 --> 40:00 [SPEAKER_01]: The sex workers encourage Dunk to find a safer trade.
40:01 --> 40:09 [SPEAKER_01]: Dunk then catches a high production value puppet show and receives an invite to the party
40:10 --> 40:18 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I mean, okay, so Tansy's supposed to be a puppeteer, but she was really more of like the MC of the puppet show.
40:19 --> 40:22 [SPEAKER_03]: She was, I mean, the puppet was even bigger than she was.
40:22 --> 40:28 [SPEAKER_01]: She looked really pleased with the performance of the puppet, and I think that she makes the puppets.
40:29 --> 40:29 [SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
40:29 --> 40:33 [SPEAKER_01]: And somebody else does the grouping of them?
40:33 --> 40:38 [SPEAKER_03]: whether people inside them or is it operated by string because that was like a full-size puppet.
40:38 --> 40:39 [SPEAKER_03]: That was really.
40:39 --> 40:39 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
40:40 --> 40:41 [SPEAKER_01]: If that's not a good person got operate.
40:42 --> 40:54 [SPEAKER_02]: It's a little bit um like you could see people in dark clothing with like um like poles connected to certain parts, certain joints.
40:55 --> 40:59 [SPEAKER_02]: And in the book, it's actually little puppets on a string.
40:59 --> 41:07 [SPEAKER_02]: And this is sort of like a more full on Jim Henson style, you know, Big Bird kind of puppet.
41:07 --> 41:12 [SPEAKER_02]: And there might be someone inside, you know, to sort of fill out the bulk of this thing.
41:13 --> 41:19 [SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, I would imagine that, you know, she's an aerator, right?
41:19 --> 41:21 [SPEAKER_02]: So she's the storyteller.
41:22 --> 41:22 [UNKNOWN]: Mm-hmm.
41:22 --> 41:35 [SPEAKER_02]: And I think that's her main job, but it's possible, well, we just don't know a whole lot more about her, except for the dunk is instantly in love.
41:35 --> 41:35 [SPEAKER_02]: Right.
41:37 --> 41:43 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, why would you think makes him fall for, I mean, he's seen, we've seen him interact with a few women this day.
41:44 --> 41:51 [SPEAKER_03]: What do you think makes him immediately fall for her, rather than he's awkward around her,
41:52 --> 42:02 [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, look, if he's still a young kid, he just might be completely taken by the narrative.
42:02 --> 42:11 [SPEAKER_02]: And just sometimes, when I was in your kid and you see a live performance, you might fall in love with an actor, simply because you're so taken by the story.
42:11 --> 42:21 [SPEAKER_02]: And you know, it could be, who knows, the heart wants what it wants, you know?
42:22 --> 42:37 [SPEAKER_03]: It's whole life you wanted up up a tier, you know, like in the book, a lot of we'd say a lot of the conversations in this episode, they definitely added and changed something somewhat as we've been discussing, but a lot of the conversations were ripped straight out of the book.
42:38 --> 42:41 [SPEAKER_03]: So I'm looking forward to, it's some interactions.
42:41 --> 42:46 [SPEAKER_03]: I know there's some iconic interactions that where Tanzi reveals more about herself.
42:46 --> 42:49 [SPEAKER_03]: So that's something
42:50 --> 42:51 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm looking forward to it.
42:52 --> 42:57 [SPEAKER_01]: Uh, something else I'm looking forward to is the budding friendship with, uh, ceramic.
42:59 --> 42:59 [SPEAKER_01]: That's ceramic.
42:59 --> 43:00 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm sorry.
43:00 --> 43:01 [SPEAKER_01]: Squire, Raymond.
43:02 --> 43:02 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
43:03 --> 43:06 [SPEAKER_01]: It makes very clear that he's not a knight in this conversation, actually.
43:06 --> 43:06 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
43:08 --> 43:11 [SPEAKER_03]: But hey, he knows where the good food is.
43:11 --> 43:15 [SPEAKER_03]: He knows how to get around in the shadows.
43:15 --> 43:20 [SPEAKER_03]: Only he's not used to dunk sides where dunk can't skulk in the shadows.
43:20 --> 43:22 [SPEAKER_02]: OK, let's talk about this guy, right?
43:22 --> 43:27 [SPEAKER_02]: Because I think at first blush, he's trustworthy.
43:28 --> 43:31 [SPEAKER_02]: But he suggests that they go to the Braffian tent.
43:33 --> 43:34 [SPEAKER_02]: start eating the bratheon food.
43:35 --> 43:39 [SPEAKER_02]: And then when Dunk gets called to the carpet and asks, why are you in my tent?
43:40 --> 43:40 [SPEAKER_02]: Where's Raymond?
43:42 --> 43:43 [SPEAKER_02]: Who's the only man?
43:44 --> 43:45 [SPEAKER_02]: He's not anywhere to be found.
43:45 --> 43:48 [SPEAKER_02]: He's not like, oh, so my Lord, I invited him.
43:48 --> 43:49 [SPEAKER_02]: He didn't know anybody.
43:49 --> 43:52 [SPEAKER_02]: There was no coming to Dunk's rescue.
43:53 --> 43:55 [SPEAKER_02]: What happened to Raymond after that?
43:56 --> 43:58 [SPEAKER_03]: Do we even see him in the rest of the episode?
43:58 --> 44:00 [SPEAKER_03]: I don't think so.
44:00 --> 44:03 [SPEAKER_01]: He's lured him right into that trap.
44:04 --> 44:05 [SPEAKER_01]: That's right.
44:05 --> 44:06 [SPEAKER_06]: It's a trap.
44:06 --> 44:09 [SPEAKER_06]: Yeah.
44:09 --> 44:10 [SPEAKER_01]: What do you do?
44:10 --> 44:13 [SPEAKER_01]: You bite a Danish and you're all done for.
44:13 --> 44:20 [SPEAKER_02]: You didn't get the sense that this is maybe his first time in a big, Lordly pavilion, right?
44:20 --> 44:36 [SPEAKER_02]: Just the amount of food, the amount of food that's being served and the variety of food that are being served and you just he's got white eyes and he just it's like he's never been to a party before.
44:36 --> 44:46 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and also he mentioned something, you know, when Raymond says, where you hungry, he goes, always, and I was just thinking, like, this man is cultivating mass in the words of, you know, Mac for but so is Sonic.
44:46 --> 44:52 [SPEAKER_01]: He's cultivating mass, and he must require so many calories to maintain this height and weight ratio.
44:52 --> 44:54 [SPEAKER_01]: Where is he getting them?
44:55 --> 44:55 [SPEAKER_01]: He has no money.
44:55 --> 44:58 [SPEAKER_01]: He has the prospects.
44:58 --> 44:59 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
44:59 --> 45:05 [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, like, that was a kindness from Sir Arlin that he fed kept the boy fed.
45:06 --> 45:08 [SPEAKER_02]: Maybe that's why Arlin was so poor.
45:09 --> 45:11 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, exactly.
45:11 --> 45:12 [SPEAKER_01]: Dunkie at all.
45:12 --> 45:18 [SPEAKER_01]: He actually used to be a landed night, but Dunkie at all these reserves.
45:18 --> 45:41 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I also think it's interesting that we don't talk about the fossil ways ever with their apple and Signia, but I thought that was really fun how because it's like an apple is just feels like such like a wholesome innocent symbol Yeah, and then you see at least Raymond's cousin is the worst like he sucks.
45:41 --> 45:42 [SPEAKER_03]: He's a rotten apple.
45:42 --> 45:44 [SPEAKER_03]: He should have a worm poking out of it
45:44 --> 45:56 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he's right into the core, um, they love to traffic in Apple puns, um, which maybe is a indicator of something more nefarious.
45:57 --> 46:08 [SPEAKER_02]: And I think it's interesting that these two guys are from a very old house in Westeros that lost their lordship.
46:09 --> 46:11 [SPEAKER_02]: during the dance of dragons.
46:12 --> 46:33 [SPEAKER_02]: And so I think that these guys are thinking, okay, well, we're, you know, we're kind of, our house is fallen from its earlier glory, but maybe if we can do well at this tournament, maybe improve our lot in life.
46:34 --> 46:37 [SPEAKER_02]: So anyway, something to look out for,
46:39 --> 47:08 [SPEAKER_01]: You know, I heard that when, um, when these two were children, they actually all went together there about six of them and they found an apple tree and one of the apples was white and they gave that to the bastard son of the, the final, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha, haha,
47:08 --> 47:10 [SPEAKER_01]: and I'll buy no apple.
47:10 --> 47:11 [SPEAKER_01]: That's what we're going with it.
47:13 --> 47:19 [SPEAKER_01]: So let's get to the feast because I think that's going to be a nice meaty section, pun intended.
47:20 --> 47:24 [SPEAKER_01]: Dunk eats his fill at the feast of Lionel Barathe in the Laughing Storm.
47:25 --> 47:26 [SPEAKER_01]: What a cool name, by the way.
47:26 --> 47:27 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
47:27 --> 47:34 [SPEAKER_01]: Sir Lionel gives an incoherence speech before offering a hundred gold to the man-beast or God who sticks him best.
47:35 --> 47:51 [SPEAKER_01]: And I think, by the way, that is a multiple meaning request, eventually Lionel calls up Dunk and asks what Dunk brought him when Dunk has nothing Lionel challenges him to a dance battle and brings out the laughing storm.
47:52 --> 47:58 [SPEAKER_01]: When don't finally land a stomp on Lionel's foot, they become besties and have a heart to heart about Don's prospects.
47:59 --> 48:03 [SPEAKER_01]: After the party, don't meet surman for it in police's case, but has no success.
48:04 --> 48:11 [SPEAKER_03]: I love the little detail of, you know, when they're just having their drunk and chat, Donk is just casually wearing his crown.
48:11 --> 48:11 [SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
48:12 --> 48:13 [SPEAKER_01]: It's great.
48:13 --> 48:14 [UNKNOWN]: That's great.
48:14 --> 48:20 [SPEAKER_01]: And then he just, when they're done with their chat, he just reaches over and just takes so off his head and he's like, all right, all right, here we go.
48:21 --> 48:23 [SPEAKER_03]: That was fun, bedtime.
48:23 --> 48:29 [SPEAKER_01]: You know, I have to say on sort of line all the actor, I thought had iPhone face at first, like he seemed to modern.
48:30 --> 48:32 [SPEAKER_01]: He seemed to like put together for this role.
48:34 --> 48:35 [SPEAKER_01]: But he really sold me by the end.
48:36 --> 48:39 [SPEAKER_01]: I was pretty sure he was going to kiss Donka on point.
48:39 --> 48:42 [SPEAKER_01]: because they were getting very close.
48:42 --> 48:48 [SPEAKER_01]: And he was like, you know, he was like, really dumb, especially after getting stomp.
48:50 --> 48:51 [SPEAKER_03]: We said, you'd be fun in the bedroom.
48:52 --> 48:53 [SPEAKER_03]: Now I could see it.
48:53 --> 48:55 [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, you know, why call him over.
48:56 --> 49:00 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, he's a tall guy, but I don't know.
49:00 --> 49:01 [SPEAKER_02]: OK, I've got a theory about this.
49:01 --> 49:06 [SPEAKER_02]: All right, so he's a tall guy who he's never seen before.
49:07 --> 49:14 [SPEAKER_02]: I think he might want to measure him up, then when Dunk comes over, Dunk does not kneel.
49:15 --> 49:21 [SPEAKER_02]: And it seems very odd in this world's force.
49:21 --> 49:22 [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, he's a great lord.
49:22 --> 49:24 [SPEAKER_02]: He's a Lord of a great house.
49:25 --> 49:30 [SPEAKER_02]: And so for Dunk not to kneel, it just seems really weird and awkward.
49:30 --> 49:37 [SPEAKER_02]: And I think that might motivate why Lionel says, do you punch in the face often?
49:38 --> 49:43 [SPEAKER_02]: Because I feel like it's a direct reply to like, what are you doing?
49:43 --> 49:55 [SPEAKER_02]: And then he has this long explanation of how, because he's a Lord, everyone either wants his help or his head,
49:56 --> 49:59 [SPEAKER_02]: And it's a very sort of game with thronesy conversation.
49:59 --> 50:03 [SPEAKER_02]: Like you could imagine like Circe and little thing you're having this conversation.
50:04 --> 50:05 [SPEAKER_02]: What do you want?
50:05 --> 50:08 [SPEAKER_02]: If you're here in my tent, what do you want?
50:08 --> 50:09 [SPEAKER_02]: Do you want my help?
50:10 --> 50:10 [SPEAKER_02]: Or do you want my head?
50:10 --> 50:13 [SPEAKER_02]: And it turns out, dunk just wants up.
50:14 --> 50:14 [SPEAKER_02]: Mm-hmm.
50:14 --> 50:18 [SPEAKER_02]: And I think that this is kind of like a little bit refreshing.
50:18 --> 50:19 [SPEAKER_02]: Like, okay.
50:20 --> 50:26 [SPEAKER_02]: Man, this is going to be a different kind of conversation I normally have.
50:27 --> 50:29 [SPEAKER_03]: Separate things, right?
50:29 --> 50:43 [SPEAKER_02]: And so I think that this kind of conversation reveals kind of the disparity between the kinds of conversations that you might have in a pavilion like this versus the kind of conversations that the squires are having outside around the campfire.
50:43 --> 50:46 [SPEAKER_02]: And of course, don't probably belongs outside around the campfire.
50:47 --> 50:59 [SPEAKER_02]: But it just so happens that this guy is attracted to dunk for some reason and they have a nice time dancing in drinking together.
51:00 --> 51:02 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
51:02 --> 51:10 [SPEAKER_01]: Well, I hope that there's more moisture between them because I, I, I just into it.
51:10 --> 51:12 [SPEAKER_01]: I think that they're going to be a great couple of shipping them.
51:12 --> 51:15 [SPEAKER_03]: Mm-hmm.
51:15 --> 51:15 [SPEAKER_01]: Forget the publicity.
51:16 --> 51:17 [SPEAKER_01]: Forget the puppet lady.
51:18 --> 51:19 [SPEAKER_03]: We barely know her.
51:20 --> 51:21 [SPEAKER_01]: That's right, Lord Lionel has my heart.
51:22 --> 51:24 [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, honestly, he seems like a lot of fun.
51:25 --> 51:27 [SPEAKER_03]: You're going to do a lot of fun.
51:27 --> 51:30 [SPEAKER_03]: You're going to go down in flames, but you're going to have a good time doing it.
51:30 --> 51:35 [SPEAKER_02]: We should note that this is an artistic flourish of the show renters, right?
51:35 --> 51:39 [SPEAKER_02]: We don't get any of this feast in the novella.
51:40 --> 51:49 [SPEAKER_02]: We have mentioned to the laughing storm in terms of his martial prowess, he's great at the lists.
51:50 --> 51:51 [SPEAKER_02]: He's great at the tilts.
51:51 --> 51:54 [SPEAKER_02]: This guy is in addition to being a great lord.
51:54 --> 52:05 [SPEAKER_02]: He's just a fantastic performer and horsemen and swordsmen and so he's a little bit Jamie Lanaster in that way.
52:06 --> 52:35 [SPEAKER_03]: But we don't get any kind of indication of like what his true personality is in this way in the novella Well, yeah, I was saying I hope that they expanded on some of the side characters and this is exactly what I meant Exactly, yes, yes, yes, this was perfect for me Yeah, it's a fun character and of course, you know everyone can be like,
52:37 --> 52:38 [SPEAKER_03]: You'll see what this family ends up.
52:40 --> 52:45 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we will see the Lord Paramount of the Stormlands.
52:46 --> 52:57 [SPEAKER_01]: All right, I mean, I don't know if there's much more subs in the same to the scene other than we didn't really talk about surman for it and the total rejection of surman.
52:58 --> 53:10 [SPEAKER_01]: And really I thought was most interesting about that is surman for it actually has kind of a point of like we've forgotten people who sacrificed a lot more than you know an injury, a wound in that.
53:11 --> 53:14 [SPEAKER_01]: And you're asking me to vouch for you like I don't know you.
53:15 --> 53:27 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, yeah, it was very naive of dunk to think that to think that he would remember him in the first place, you know, that he was one of hundreds that Sir Arlin was one of hundreds of dunk was just a kid.
53:27 --> 53:29 [SPEAKER_03]: So is that long ago as well.
53:31 --> 53:44 [SPEAKER_03]: Just it just shows how little dunk understands not even just this world, but just the world in general, how yeah, how things work, how people's memory's work.
53:45 --> 53:48 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, poor donk.
53:48 --> 53:57 [SPEAKER_01]: He's really taking a lot on the chin this episode and right after he was gasped up by Lord Lionel, you know.
53:58 --> 54:05 [SPEAKER_02]: Even Lord Lionel though at the end of the day is like, you know, the conversation does it end with, you know, what can you do?
54:05 --> 54:15 [SPEAKER_02]: Well, how can I help you?
54:16 --> 54:18 [SPEAKER_02]: You know, this sort of like, that was it.
54:18 --> 54:20 [SPEAKER_02]: That was all a good chat, bro.
54:20 --> 54:21 [SPEAKER_02]: And the conversation.
54:22 --> 54:22 [SPEAKER_06]: Yeah.
54:23 --> 54:24 [SPEAKER_01]: It was a one night stand.
54:24 --> 54:25 [SPEAKER_01]: I understand.
54:27 --> 54:31 [SPEAKER_01]: All right, well, we've got a lucky start of wish arm at Dunks campsite.
54:31 --> 54:33 [SPEAKER_01]: The save of boy is cooking dinner.
54:33 --> 54:38 [SPEAKER_01]: He wants again asks to be Dunks Squire and Dunks agrees to let him do a trial run for the attorney.
54:39 --> 54:44 [SPEAKER_01]: Dunks dobs himself, sir, Dunk in the tall, and promises his new Squire egg.
54:44 --> 54:47 [SPEAKER_01]: Close on his back and food in his belly.
54:48 --> 54:56 [SPEAKER_01]: When they go to sleep, egg notices a falling star and that will give them luck as they
54:57 --> 55:25 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I love that touch, you know, like, Oh, so the luck is just for us, you know, because we're in these poor circumstances that actually exposes us to maybe new opportunities that the people safely tucked in there fixed civilians don't have I do like that dunk is a little bit slow to understand what against trying to say like they're saying like those those guys are looking at their silk tent ceilings.
55:26 --> 55:39 [SPEAKER_02]: here we are under the stars i think initially dunks thinking why do you shut up about the pavilions we don't have one you know and then he thinks about it for a minute and things
55:40 --> 55:54 [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, maybe he's saying that the luck the luck is ours alone and of course, this is when I just think this is when the actor kind of wins my heart, you know, Dexter soul and what's his name?
55:55 --> 55:55 [SPEAKER_02]: Dexter soul.
55:55 --> 55:58 [SPEAKER_02]: What's his, uh, yeah, I guess.
55:59 --> 56:02 [SPEAKER_02]: Anyway, what he does is he just kind of.
56:02 --> 56:19 [SPEAKER_02]: Grins silently do himself like yeah, you can't met you little slow like you can't when I put it down I also liked his eyes when He kind of lights up when dunk his explaining how hard Being a squire is gonna be like you're gonna be on the road
56:20 --> 56:21 [SPEAKER_02]: You know, it'd be sleeping under trees.
56:21 --> 56:22 [SPEAKER_02]: You're gonna get wet.
56:22 --> 56:25 [SPEAKER_02]: You're gonna be in the hard, salted meat.
56:27 --> 56:27 [SPEAKER_03]: You slap soup.
56:27 --> 56:28 [SPEAKER_03]: What did you call it?
56:28 --> 56:30 [SPEAKER_02]: I'm not gonna beat you unless you deserve it.
56:31 --> 56:31 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
56:32 --> 56:38 [SPEAKER_02]: If you're watching, if you're watching eggs eyes, eggs eyes just kind of light up like, I can't believe this.
56:39 --> 56:40 [SPEAKER_02]: I'm gonna have an adventure.
56:40 --> 56:44 [SPEAKER_03]: This is gonna be, better than being stuck in one place, right?
56:45 --> 56:49 [SPEAKER_03]: Doing the same thing whenever it is you do all day.
56:49 --> 56:51 [SPEAKER_01]: watching some dude get drunk.
56:53 --> 56:58 [SPEAKER_01]: The other thing, the interesting thing is that, egg kind of plays the role of the older sibling or the parent here, right?
56:58 --> 57:06 [SPEAKER_01]: He's the one passing down the lower and the traditions to dunk instead of the other way around.
57:07 --> 57:12 [SPEAKER_01]: And I think that that foreshadows some of a dynamic of, hey, we're gonna teach each other.
57:13 --> 57:16 [SPEAKER_01]: It's not just gonna be a one-way street.
57:16 --> 57:18 [SPEAKER_01]: Okay, so that's our recap.
57:18 --> 57:25 [SPEAKER_01]: We are going to come back after the outro and do another book spoiler segment, just a short book spoiler segment.
57:25 --> 57:30 [SPEAKER_01]: So everything we say until you hear the credit music, just really quick.
57:30 --> 57:37 [SPEAKER_01]: I want to remind everybody, the other two podcasts a week are going to only be on the properly Howard movie review feed.
57:37 --> 57:42 [SPEAKER_01]: So Anthony, if you want to quickly just remind people where to get that,
57:42 --> 57:43 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, absolutely.
57:43 --> 57:45 [SPEAKER_02]: Just do a search for properly Howard movie review.
57:45 --> 58:01 [SPEAKER_02]: If you search for properly Howard, or probably come up with whatever feed, whatever platform you use to listen to podcasts, Steven, I usually review movies, and yet for the next six or seven weeks going to be doing an instant take.
58:01 --> 58:08 [SPEAKER_02]: That would be Sunday nights over a properly Howard, and we'll also do a Friday afternoon feedback.
58:08 --> 58:18 [SPEAKER_02]: And you can send those, you can send feedback to small council at thelowerhounds.com, is that right?
58:19 --> 58:20 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
58:20 --> 58:21 [SPEAKER_02]: That is right.
58:21 --> 58:43 [SPEAKER_02]: That is where you can send them to cocoons of horror at gmail.com or you can post them to the Discord that's dedicated to this page to this show and will include a link tree link tree link in the show notes of this episode.
58:43 --> 58:44 [SPEAKER_02]: How'd I do?
58:44 --> 58:44 [SPEAKER_01]: You're a good.
58:45 --> 58:45 [SPEAKER_01]: All right.
58:45 --> 58:46 [SPEAKER_01]: You did great.
58:46 --> 58:48 [SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, go over to probably her and check that out.
58:49 --> 58:52 [SPEAKER_01]: You'll get more Western rosy content over there.
58:53 --> 58:57 [SPEAKER_01]: You should also check out, never mind, the music doing weekly coverage of music and psychology.
58:57 --> 58:59 [SPEAKER_01]: They did, they did Shaggy last week.
58:59 --> 59:02 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't even know what they dropped today because I haven't had a chance to look.
59:02 --> 59:04 [SPEAKER_01]: They have plenty of stuff coming out every single week.
59:05 --> 59:17 [SPEAKER_01]: Radioactive ramlings is covering fallout and they are having a great time doing it not quite weekly, but regularly I hear season 2 is going great, so make sure you are on that feed.
59:17 --> 59:21 [SPEAKER_01]: At least anything on your two feeds before we talk about what's going on in the all-hounds.
59:22 --> 59:28 [SPEAKER_03]: I have been busy right now with the Laura Hound's feet, I swear the Dune stuff's coming very soon and more Star Wars.
59:29 --> 59:48 [SPEAKER_03]: But yeah, on the Laura Hound's feet, in addition to you and David doing weekly, the Pit coverage, there's, we just released an MCU versus DCU looking ahead, looking back slightly, but mostly looking ahead, and putting them head to head and deciding which one wins.
59:48 --> 59:49 [SPEAKER_01]: No ties.
59:49 --> 59:51 [SPEAKER_03]: No ties you heard John say that.
59:51 --> 59:52 [SPEAKER_01]: I sure did.
59:54 --> 59:55 [SPEAKER_03]: There was not a tie in the end.
59:55 --> 59:57 [SPEAKER_03]: I'll say there was a definitive answer in the end.
59:59 --> 59:59 [SPEAKER_03]: That's good.
59:59 --> 01:00:08 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, we've got lots of other little one shots coming up like we're going to do a Percy Jackson with actually John really wanted to join Marilyn and I for that.
01:00:08 --> 01:00:10 [SPEAKER_03]: So it's going to be the three of us for Percy Jackson.
01:00:11 --> 01:00:15 [SPEAKER_03]: The episode last episode comes out tomorrow as this is released, I think.
01:00:15 --> 01:00:31 [SPEAKER_03]: And then also there's going to be probably after that there will be, well first is going to be Wonderman one shot because that's dropping on the 27th super excited for that and then there's going to be a 28 years later the bone temple
01:00:31 --> 01:00:33 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, an episode about the movie.
01:00:33 --> 01:00:34 [SPEAKER_03]: I've seen it.
01:00:34 --> 01:00:35 [SPEAKER_03]: I loved it.
01:00:35 --> 01:00:46 [SPEAKER_03]: Not as much as the first 28 years later, which is one of my now favorite movies of all time, but I still gave the new the Bone Temple Five Stars, and I am starting Ray Fines Oscar campaign for next year.
01:00:47 --> 01:00:48 [SPEAKER_01]: Hmm, very nice.
01:00:50 --> 01:00:50 [SPEAKER_01]: All right.
01:00:50 --> 01:00:51 [SPEAKER_01]: Well,
01:00:51 --> 01:00:54 [SPEAKER_01]: Let's give our quick thank yous and get out of here.

01:01:58 --> 01:01:59 [SPEAKER_01]: I've never watched it before, so it's gonna be great.
01:01:59 --> 01:01:59 [SPEAKER_03]: Really?
01:02:00 --> 01:02:02 [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, and you love your co-imbrothers, don't you?
01:02:02 --> 01:02:07 [SPEAKER_01]: I do, and I also love season five of Fargo, which is the only season I've seen.
01:02:07 --> 01:02:07 [SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
01:02:07 --> 01:02:09 [SPEAKER_01]: So I've just, I'm doing it in the show.
01:02:09 --> 01:02:09 [SPEAKER_03]: I'm doing it in the show.
01:02:09 --> 01:02:09 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
01:02:10 --> 01:02:11 [SPEAKER_03]: I'm not going to show.
01:02:11 --> 01:02:18 [SPEAKER_03]: So, but I have seen the movie before, so this is a rewatch of the movie, and then I'm going to use it as a launch pad to finally start watching the show.
01:02:19 --> 01:02:19 [SPEAKER_01]: Cool.
01:02:20 --> 01:02:21 [SPEAKER_01]: All right.
01:02:21 --> 01:02:23 [SPEAKER_01]: Well, I think that's about it for me.
01:02:23 --> 01:02:27 [SPEAKER_01]: So don't forget we're going to be doing a spoiler talk quickly after the credit.
01:02:27 --> 01:02:28 [SPEAKER_01]: So stick around if you want that.
01:02:29 --> 01:02:31 [SPEAKER_01]: If not, see you all next week.
01:02:40 --> 01:02:43 [SPEAKER_00]: The Laura Hound podcast is produced in published by the Laura Hounds.

01:02:53 --> 01:02:56 [SPEAKER_00]: Links for everything are in the link tree in the show notes.
01:02:56 --> 01:02:58 [SPEAKER_00]: Passing the keys over to Master Antony.
01:02:58 --> 01:02:58 [SPEAKER_00]: Four.
01:02:58 --> 01:02:58 [SPEAKER_00]: Personally.
01:02:58 --> 01:03:00 [SPEAKER_01]: And do not flex the boiler job or below.
01:03:00 --> 01:03:02 [SPEAKER_03]: And this is big book spoilers.
01:03:02 --> 01:03:06 [SPEAKER_03]: So don't just kind of hurt people stuck around for our white tower stuff for the Wheel of Time and regretted it.
01:03:06 --> 01:03:09 [SPEAKER_03]: They're like, oh my god, you actually said all books spoilers.
01:03:09 --> 01:03:10 [SPEAKER_03]: So yes.
01:03:11 --> 01:03:16 [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, um, you are the master of your own ship, uh, proceed at caution, stormy and head.
01:03:17 --> 01:03:28 [SPEAKER_02]: Now, as readers of the novella know, uh, there are a few Targaryens about, and we find it later that they've gone missing.
01:03:30 --> 01:03:36 [SPEAKER_02]: Um, a couple Targaryens include the guy that we met at the drunk, the
01:03:37 --> 01:04:05 [SPEAKER_02]: uh... he's he's gone missing they don't know where he's at and then a young boy named egg on now in my instant take with david david was like it egg on it's got to be it's got to be it's got to be it's got to be sure for and i think it's um... i think it's a fundamental difference between if you're hearing it versus whether you're seeing it on the page
01:04:06 --> 01:04:16 [SPEAKER_02]: because if you have that sort of phonetic similarity between egg and egg on, you hear it, in the book, it's EGG.
01:04:17 --> 01:04:26 [SPEAKER_02]: And dunk assumes that it's because of a shaved head that other mean kids have a sort of derice of nicknamed him egg.
01:04:27 --> 01:04:30 [SPEAKER_02]: But I think in the show a lot of,
01:04:30 --> 01:04:43 [SPEAKER_02]: viewers are going to see the clue that David saw, they're going to assume that this is sort of a lost Targaryen prince and sort of posing as a squire.
01:04:43 --> 01:04:49 [SPEAKER_02]: And I think there's a few indications of this, you know, number one.
01:04:50 --> 01:05:16 [SPEAKER_02]: There is there's a guy inside that looks very much like a Targaryen and so it could be the egg as it has to that guy instead of the the in-keep right and we hear the in-keep said oh did my boy Did he help you or did he run off again right right right and of course dunk is not really picking up any of these clues right
01:05:17 --> 01:05:39 [SPEAKER_02]: Um, and he's not going to, he's not going to pick up the clues until, you know, the big identity reveal, uh, but, um, I'm just wondering what you all think about how fans will receive the identity reveal, uh, especially if most of them have already guessed.
01:05:40 --> 01:05:45 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I find it a shame that so many are going to guess, but I know not all will.
01:05:45 --> 01:05:53 [SPEAKER_03]: Um, I've like, I think it's funny, I've seen other content creators, you know, talking about previews of the show and things like that.
01:05:53 --> 01:05:54 [SPEAKER_03]: And just the way they skip over that.
01:05:54 --> 01:05:57 [SPEAKER_03]: They're like, well, here's what the Targaryens are like there.
01:05:57 --> 01:05:59 [SPEAKER_03]: And then the youngest one is just a child moving on.
01:06:01 --> 01:06:01 [SPEAKER_03]: Right.
01:06:01 --> 01:06:06 [SPEAKER_03]: So yeah, I find it a shame that people are going to be spoiled, but I think it's still satisfying.
01:06:06 --> 01:06:10 [SPEAKER_03]: And I think like as you said, if you're paying attention, then you see the clues.
01:06:10 --> 01:06:24 [SPEAKER_03]: You see, and what I was hinting at earlier when I said, you know, I couldn't really talk about it because of spoilers is the imperiousness of him that he is behaving like a princeling who is amused by this man.
01:06:25 --> 01:06:27 [SPEAKER_03]: But knows that he's also
01:06:27 --> 01:06:31 [SPEAKER_03]: He's never had someone speak to him like threatened to cluck him or something, you know?
01:06:33 --> 01:06:33 [SPEAKER_06]: Cloud didn't hear.
01:06:34 --> 01:06:40 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and then in the funny part of where Dunk throws basically a penny at his feet.
01:06:40 --> 01:06:43 [SPEAKER_03]: And he's like, I know you'll scramble for it when I go away.
01:06:43 --> 01:06:47 [SPEAKER_03]: And he's like, I don't think it's ever seen currency so small.
01:06:49 --> 01:06:57 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, once you know that, it makes it's almost an interesting just position between the coinage.
01:06:57 --> 01:06:58 [SPEAKER_02]: Mr.
01:06:58 --> 01:07:17 [SPEAKER_02]: Drunk and Dream are just put down a gold dragon right and now you're you're seeing this copper star at the feet of egg and you have to wonder like it just looks like dirt to him you know it's it's completely worthless
01:07:18 --> 01:07:25 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I was wanting him to pick it up because I'm like, if you're going to be following dunk, dunk needs that money, he needs everything.
01:07:25 --> 01:07:25 [SPEAKER_01]: Right.
01:07:25 --> 01:07:30 [SPEAKER_01]: I was just thinking like he don't go, oh, we're out of coin, hey, can you pull that copper I gave you?
01:07:30 --> 01:07:32 [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I didn't pick it up.
01:07:32 --> 01:07:35 [SPEAKER_01]: That was a week's wages, right?
01:07:35 --> 01:07:35 [SPEAKER_02]: Right.
01:07:35 --> 01:07:36 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
01:07:37 --> 01:07:43 [SPEAKER_02]: So I mean, I think that there's, I mean, that's part of the fun is to have the egg reveal in this first.
01:07:43 --> 01:07:44 [SPEAKER_02]: Vela.
01:07:44 --> 01:07:47 [SPEAKER_02]: Right.
01:07:48 --> 01:07:49 [SPEAKER_02]: There's enough intrigue.
01:07:49 --> 01:07:51 [SPEAKER_02]: There's enough interesting personalities.
01:07:53 --> 01:07:58 [SPEAKER_02]: There are a couple other little twists that are along the way that I think will surprise folks.
01:07:59 --> 01:08:07 [SPEAKER_03]: Do you think that they're going to let Egg get some silver stubble on his head as a sort of glue to people as well?
01:08:08 --> 01:08:11 [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
01:08:11 --> 01:08:11 [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I doubt it.
01:08:11 --> 01:08:11 [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
01:08:12 --> 01:08:14 [SPEAKER_02]: It doesn't really happen in the Bella.
01:08:14 --> 01:08:14 [SPEAKER_02]: No.
01:08:15 --> 01:08:17 [SPEAKER_02]: There's no indication that his hair grows in.
01:08:17 --> 01:08:19 [SPEAKER_01]: Where's the kid getting Razor's from?
01:08:20 --> 01:08:21 [SPEAKER_01]: It's a great question.
01:08:21 --> 01:08:22 [SPEAKER_01]: Like that is a clean shave.
01:08:23 --> 01:08:25 [SPEAKER_01]: That is a sweet-me-todd level shave.
01:08:25 --> 01:08:31 [SPEAKER_03]: And it's also why is his brother, we can say he's struggling with his brother.
01:08:31 --> 01:08:36 [SPEAKER_03]: Why is he like, okay, you can shave your head to pretend not to be a target?
01:08:37 --> 01:08:38 [SPEAKER_01]: I think they addressed that in the novella.
01:08:39 --> 01:08:41 [SPEAKER_01]: Is that he also didn't want to be founded anymore.
01:08:41 --> 01:08:41 [SPEAKER_01]: I can be in the turning.
01:08:42 --> 01:08:43 [SPEAKER_03]: Right, okay.
01:08:43 --> 01:08:45 [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, right, so that was part of the disguise, right?
01:08:46 --> 01:08:46 [SPEAKER_01]: Right.
01:08:47 --> 01:08:56 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if his brother cares about much, he definitely doesn't care, but he doesn't want to die either, you know?
01:08:56 --> 01:08:56 [SPEAKER_02]: Right.
01:09:01 --> 01:09:09 [SPEAKER_02]: Well, I mean, there were a couple of little things that I thought were interesting that sort of be speak future stories.
01:09:09 --> 01:09:14 [SPEAKER_02]: Like for instance, the Lionel Baratheon kind of being a little bit,
01:09:16 --> 01:09:18 [SPEAKER_02]: a little bit of homo rock dancing.
01:09:19 --> 01:09:23 [SPEAKER_01]: I was basically interviewing with the vampire at this point.
01:09:25 --> 01:09:39 [SPEAKER_02]: I thought, you know, in the mystery night, which is a future novella, dunk has a conversation with a Lord, whether it's explicitly, you know, there's almost a sexual undertone in the conversation.
01:09:40 --> 01:09:46 [SPEAKER_02]: Um, but you don't find that and you know, we probably won't encounter that guy until season three.
01:09:46 --> 01:09:52 [SPEAKER_02]: So I thought it was interesting that they almost brought that the spirit of that conversation into this.
01:09:53 --> 01:09:57 [SPEAKER_02]: Show only exchange with the laughing storm.
01:09:58 --> 01:10:00 [SPEAKER_02]: And yet it kind of ends.
01:10:00 --> 01:10:05 [SPEAKER_02]: Uh, understated, you know, there's no explicit advance.
01:10:06 --> 01:10:31 [SPEAKER_02]: So anyway, you know, it's sort of the truth of this world that if you're if you're gay and you're an up you're you are of a higher class You might try to take advantage of of someone of a lower class Because you have something to offer that person and unfortunately you know power
01:10:32 --> 01:10:36 [SPEAKER_02]: power kind of dictates the relationship.
01:10:37 --> 01:10:39 [SPEAKER_02]: So it's a gross detail.
01:10:40 --> 01:10:42 [SPEAKER_02]: Martin is not above adding details like that.
01:10:43 --> 01:10:49 [SPEAKER_02]: And I, you know, I thought it was interstated, but clearly John you were.
01:10:50 --> 01:10:59 [SPEAKER_03]: But I think the key difference with the conversations that you're referring about from the third novella is that this doesn't have any letcherist quality to it.
01:10:59 --> 01:11:01 [SPEAKER_03]: Like maybe he does find dunk attractive.
01:11:01 --> 01:11:09 [SPEAKER_03]: Maybe he does want to flirt with him a little bit, but that's not really, we mostly just see him connecting with him as a full person, having a real conversation with him.
01:11:10 --> 01:11:16 [SPEAKER_03]: And that I think tells us something about this Barathe and that maybe he's certainly,
01:11:16 --> 01:11:34 [SPEAKER_03]: better than Manfred, or what's his face, fossilized, Stefan, and yeah, and I think that maybe yeah, that is an important juxtaposition, and very important, I think, in terms of LGBT representation, that just because you're gay doesn't mean you're ledgerous, sometimes you're just
01:11:35 --> 01:11:43 [SPEAKER_03]: I don't know if I want to call him a nice guy, but I think he's not a bad guy as far as we've seen.
01:11:43 --> 01:11:50 [SPEAKER_02]: In this particular moment, he seems okay, he seems like a fun guy to party with.
01:11:51 --> 01:11:53 [SPEAKER_02]: I'm not sure if that is going to...
01:11:53 --> 01:12:02 [SPEAKER_01]: He's chaotic dude for all I would say, you know, here's what I think happened is he was convinced he was like, I'm gonna climb this guy like a tree.
01:12:02 --> 01:12:11 [SPEAKER_01]: He was he was convinced to taking him home and then dunked aside to tell him his entire life story over wine and he's like, fuck, I can't trust this guy's discretion.
01:12:11 --> 01:12:16 [SPEAKER_01]: We're calling it off and then he takes his horns back and he finds another person.
01:12:16 --> 01:12:17 [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, huh.
01:12:18 --> 01:12:20 [SPEAKER_02]: I have missed the metaphor that he's literally horny.
01:12:23 --> 01:12:23 [SPEAKER_03]: But I'm ching.
01:12:25 --> 01:12:25 [SPEAKER_03]: I know.
01:12:26 --> 01:12:30 [SPEAKER_03]: I think I'm viewing him a bit more positively for now than the two of you.
01:12:31 --> 01:12:32 [SPEAKER_03]: his intention.
01:12:32 --> 01:12:33 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't with that.
01:12:33 --> 01:12:34 [SPEAKER_01]: I don't think he's a bad person.
01:12:34 --> 01:12:38 [SPEAKER_01]: No, I, oh, I think he wanted to use them, but in all the right ways.
01:12:39 --> 01:12:42 [SPEAKER_01]: But no, he, I think he was a fine person.
01:12:42 --> 01:12:49 [SPEAKER_01]: He, I mean, we might see his behavior differently later, but he messed with dunk, but I think it was mostly heart loss, right?
01:12:49 --> 01:12:52 [SPEAKER_01]: Like he was never dunk was not in real danger in this night.
01:12:52 --> 01:12:55 [SPEAKER_03]: No, he was kinder to him than the sex workers were.
01:12:56 --> 01:13:09 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's exactly, but he actually, I do think he genuinely Ford's a connection with them for me, but it's one of those connections that's like, you get really drunk with somebody, you have a real connection for me and you never think about it again.
01:13:10 --> 01:13:11 [SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's exactly what they just had.
01:13:11 --> 01:13:14 [SPEAKER_03]: While they're still at the same tournament, so we'll see.
01:13:14 --> 01:13:18 [SPEAKER_02]: Do you think you was so drunk that he won't even remember done the next day?
01:13:19 --> 01:13:22 [SPEAKER_03]: What's he that drunk when Duncan arrived or was he only that drunk by the end?
01:13:23 --> 01:13:23 [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
01:13:23 --> 01:13:26 [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, he can't even remember a speech early on.
01:13:26 --> 01:13:27 [SPEAKER_03]: Well, that's true.
01:13:28 --> 01:13:29 [SPEAKER_03]: That's true.
01:13:30 --> 01:13:30 [SPEAKER_03]: Hmm.
01:13:30 --> 01:13:38 [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I think he'll remember him because maybe especially if John's theory is correct, big handsome dude, of course, I'll remember him.
01:13:39 --> 01:13:40 [SPEAKER_01]: Huh.
01:13:40 --> 01:13:43 [SPEAKER_03]: I feel like I have flashes of dancing with the big handsome dude.
01:13:43 --> 01:13:47 [SPEAKER_01]: Who could forget those shoulders?
01:13:48 --> 01:13:51 [SPEAKER_02]: Uh, I think that that's all I had for spoilers.
01:13:53 --> 01:13:54 [SPEAKER_02]: Was there anything else?
01:13:56 --> 01:13:58 [SPEAKER_03]: No, yeah, I don't want to spoil too much.
01:14:00 --> 01:14:05 [SPEAKER_01]: I think let's, let's bring it up as it comes up, because otherwise we're going to, we're going to blow our whole spoiler.
01:14:05 --> 01:14:06 [SPEAKER_03]: Spoiler wad.
01:14:07 --> 01:14:08 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, right away, you know.
01:14:08 --> 01:14:12 [SPEAKER_03]: What episode do we think that the egg reveal will happen in?
01:14:12 --> 01:14:15 [SPEAKER_03]: Do we, do we think we'll, that they'll speed it up?
01:14:15 --> 01:14:17 [SPEAKER_02]: It's going to be the third episode.
01:14:17 --> 01:14:20 [SPEAKER_02]: I've heard people who've seen the entire episode.
01:14:22 --> 01:14:25 [SPEAKER_03]: Okay, all right, put third episode.
01:14:25 --> 01:14:27 [SPEAKER_03]: Good love with that.
01:14:27 --> 01:14:28 [SPEAKER_03]: All right, cool.
01:14:28 --> 01:14:29 [SPEAKER_03]: One more week of playing, Koy.
01:14:31 --> 01:14:33 [SPEAKER_01]: Well, everyone, have a great week.
01:14:33 --> 01:14:37 [SPEAKER_01]: We will be back with, well, Anthony and see what we'll be back off Friday with a feedback episode.
01:14:38 --> 01:14:41 [SPEAKER_01]: And then we will be back with another breakdown next week.
01:14:41 --> 01:14:46 [SPEAKER_03]: Until then, keep it moist.
