David and Jean continue their episode-to-episode coverage of HBO's Lanterns with the season's second installment. The conversation opens with fresh takes on Hal and John's evolving buddy cop dynamic, the mystery surrounding Antaan and the Manhunter-related genocide referenced in the episode, and the show's understated approach to establishing John Stewart Jr. as something more than an average human despite lacking a metagene. They also dig into the episode's DC universe Easter eggs, from Gotham and Coast City references to Mogo, before moving into a full scene by scene breakdown.

00:17 --> 00:20 [UNKNOWN]: Welcome to comics versus we're the lore hounds.
00:20 --> 00:32 [UNKNOWN]: I'm your host David and with me as always my co host who's just back from coastal city John I'm good man.
00:32 --> 00:33 [UNKNOWN]: Good morning.
00:33 --> 00:34 [UNKNOWN]: How are you?
00:34 --> 00:37 [UNKNOWN]: We are well beautiful day first day school woohoo
00:37 --> 00:40 [UNKNOWN]: All of these to our district, our kids are back.
00:41 --> 00:44 [UNKNOWN]: Nice to have that, you know, back into normal schedule.
00:44 --> 00:48 [UNKNOWN]: Okay, it was still two weeks away, and which it was another month.
00:48 --> 00:49 [UNKNOWN]: So that's beyond it.
00:50 --> 00:51 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:51 --> 00:53 [UNKNOWN]: Both E and myself, which it was another month.
00:54 --> 00:55 [UNKNOWN]: Right, yeah, perpetual summer.
00:56 --> 01:02 [UNKNOWN]: But we're here, and this is our coverage of season one of Lanterns, episode two, trust fall.
01:04 --> 01:22 [UNKNOWN]: As always, contact us at comics versus at the lorhounds.com that is C-O-M-I-C-S-V-S comics versus one word at the lorhounds.com and, you know, Jean, I was thinking about this the other day.
01:22 --> 01:24 [UNKNOWN]: Well, I was listening to a podcast.
01:25 --> 01:31 [UNKNOWN]: And everybody just throws in the, hey, give us a review, like, subscribe, you know, bonus
01:34 --> 01:35 [UNKNOWN]: And I was just thinking, you know, they're just empty words.
01:35 --> 01:38 [UNKNOWN]: People, we just all are just saying them like parents.
01:38 --> 01:42 [UNKNOWN]: And like, what does it really mean to subscribe to a podcast?
01:42 --> 01:44 [UNKNOWN]: Or like, like, what do you get?
01:44 --> 01:45 [UNKNOWN]: Oh, bonus content.
01:45 --> 01:45 [UNKNOWN]: Oh, my God.
01:46 --> 01:47 [UNKNOWN]: Oh, I've got so much more content.
01:47 --> 01:50 [UNKNOWN]: Do I really need bonus content in my life?
01:51 --> 01:52 [UNKNOWN]: More things to listen to?
01:53 --> 02:02 [UNKNOWN]: But, you know, the reason why everybody says that kind of stuff is because we're trying, we're all trying to make some kind of living at this or sort of justify the costs.
02:03 --> 02:17 [UNKNOWN]: So we can look at our partners and our spouses in the eye and say, yes, the several hours I spent today preparing for this podcast, recording this podcast, editing this podcast, actually means something.
02:23 --> 02:48 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, for us, you know, we're we're chasing that advertising revenue right to help offset our costs and justify our time, but ad revenues fickle like there's everybody's everybody down the line is taking a bite of that ad revenue before it gets to us and really subscriptions are the way that a podcast like us can keep our feet underneath us.
02:50 --> 03:00 [UNKNOWN]: So if that is meaningful to you at all, and it works for you, because we know everybody's got all kinds of different circumstances and they're dealing with all kinds of different stuff in their lives.
03:00 --> 03:04 [UNKNOWN]: And we certainly don't want to like, guilt anybody into subscribing.
03:05 --> 03:06 [UNKNOWN]: But if it's in your means,
03:06 --> 03:13 [UNKNOWN]: and you feel like you want to step up and help us continue what we do because we're going to do it anyway because we love it.
03:14 --> 03:20 [UNKNOWN]: But if you want to send that communication back to us and say, hey, I appreciate you, then we would love your subscriptions.
03:20 --> 03:24 [UNKNOWN]: You know, and you can stay as subscribed as long or as short as you want.
03:25 --> 03:29 [UNKNOWN]: You know, we don't think if anything when people come and go from subscriptions, we get it.
03:29 --> 03:30 [UNKNOWN]: Like life is busy.
03:31 --> 03:32 [UNKNOWN]: Sometimes subscriptions build up.
03:32 --> 03:33 [UNKNOWN]: You're like, why am I subscribed to this thing?
03:33 --> 03:35 [UNKNOWN]: I haven't listened to it in six months.
03:35 --> 03:35 [UNKNOWN]: Like,
03:36 --> 03:43 [UNKNOWN]: So if, if it does work for you and you feel like, you know, hey, you know, I appreciate what the lore hounds are putting down.
03:44 --> 03:46 [UNKNOWN]: Let me let me throw them some some love.
03:46 --> 03:47 [UNKNOWN]: We would love it.
03:48 --> 03:57 [UNKNOWN]: There's a link in the show notes and there's a couple of different options for how you can subscribe super cast is one different platform that's kind of a competitor to
03:58 --> 04:02 [UNKNOWN]: Patreon but Patreon works just as well for either one works just for us.
04:02 --> 04:06 [UNKNOWN]: It's sort of a preference thing to you But yeah, that's great.
04:06 --> 04:16 [UNKNOWN]: There's a couple different options and yeah, you get some bonus content, but you know, it's it's pretty chill on on what we offer So anyway, that's enough of my pitch for today
04:18 --> 04:20 [UNKNOWN]: You know, you got to make it real for people.
04:20 --> 04:23 [UNKNOWN]: If you don't make it real for people, then it's just words.
04:23 --> 04:26 [UNKNOWN]: And I hear the words all the time, because I listen to a lot of podcasts.
04:26 --> 04:27 [UNKNOWN]: And they're just empty words.
04:27 --> 04:29 [UNKNOWN]: People just are parents and just repeating them.
04:29 --> 04:33 [UNKNOWN]: So it's just a kind of an authentic reach out to the community.
04:34 --> 04:38 [UNKNOWN]: Anyway, speaking of community, Jean, the discord is popping.
04:41 --> 04:42 [UNKNOWN]: What do you think about it?
04:42 --> 04:43 [UNKNOWN]: What's at the disco?
04:43 --> 04:44 [UNKNOWN]: What do I think about the disco?
04:44 --> 04:46 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, what do you think about his popman?
04:46 --> 04:47 [UNKNOWN]: So what do you think about the popman?
04:48 --> 04:49 [UNKNOWN]: I think it's great.
04:49 --> 04:50 [UNKNOWN]: I people are engaged.
04:50 --> 04:52 [UNKNOWN]: We even got Marilyn into the show.
04:52 --> 04:54 [UNKNOWN]: And she was on the episode one discord.
04:54 --> 04:55 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
04:55 --> 04:57 [UNKNOWN]: Dron and all the things.
04:57 --> 04:59 [UNKNOWN]: Alicia was in there yesterday.
04:59 --> 05:01 [UNKNOWN]: I think, yeah, yesterday and today.
05:01 --> 05:02 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
05:03 --> 05:06 [UNKNOWN]: With all kinds of things, because she's just catching up with it.
05:06 --> 05:10 [UNKNOWN]: So if you want to enjoy hanging out with other,
05:12 --> 05:20 [UNKNOWN]: people that are sort of like-minded and are interested in the kinds of things that if you're listening to this podcast, you're obviously interested in.
05:21 --> 05:32 [UNKNOWN]: And you feel like you can handle the technology challenges that that hard, but discord is it's a different kind of space, but it's a great and it's fun and there's like lots of great conversations and lots of cool people talking about, okay.
05:32 --> 05:36 [UNKNOWN]: It's definitely have a huge discord full of all kinds of channels covering all the movies and television shows.
05:37 --> 05:39 [UNKNOWN]: We've got books and music conversation going on as well.
05:39 --> 05:41 [UNKNOWN]: We have channels for all of the affiliates.
05:41 --> 05:42 [UNKNOWN]: So if you're a fan of.
05:43 --> 05:57 [UNKNOWN]: properly Howard or never mind the music there's channels just for those dungeons and do rags if you got you know there's channels just for all of those those podcasters so link in the show notes as well there's a link tree it's a whole page of links you can just pop over there
05:58 --> 06:00 [UNKNOWN]: join the discord, join conversation.
06:00 --> 06:02 [UNKNOWN]: But also check out all of our affiliates.
06:02 --> 06:04 [UNKNOWN]: And we've got links to all of affiliates in the lead tree.
06:04 --> 06:08 [UNKNOWN]: I just realized too, I need to add Dungeons and Doorag to the affiliate lake page.
06:08 --> 06:09 [UNKNOWN]: To the affiliate guy.
06:09 --> 06:10 [UNKNOWN]: Ah, I can't believe that.
06:11 --> 06:11 [UNKNOWN]: It's okay.
06:11 --> 06:13 [UNKNOWN]: You got a lot of...
06:13 --> 06:14 [UNKNOWN]: There's a lot going on.
06:14 --> 06:14 [UNKNOWN]: There's a lot going on.
06:14 --> 06:15 [UNKNOWN]: It's true.
06:15 --> 06:17 [UNKNOWN]: We're the lower hounds, or we are busy people.
06:17 --> 06:17 [UNKNOWN]: We got stuff going on.
06:18 --> 06:20 [UNKNOWN]: So today's y'all, and I think we'll do fresh shakes.
06:20 --> 06:21 [UNKNOWN]: We've got a little feedback.
06:21 --> 06:24 [UNKNOWN]: We got a couple of folks out there who are really excited by the show.
06:24 --> 06:26 [UNKNOWN]: We'll take a little break, then we'll get into our
06:27 --> 06:33 [UNKNOWN]: seen by scene, but episode two, trust fall, what are your thoughts and feelings?
06:33 --> 06:37 [UNKNOWN]: Your big, overall hot takes, fresh takes for that.
06:37 --> 06:49 [UNKNOWN]: Oh boy, um, I mean, the cool, the show continues to, to do amazing things for my comic book nerdiness.
06:49 --> 06:50 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
06:50 --> 06:52 [UNKNOWN]: Um, and so I am loving all of it.
06:53 --> 06:54 [UNKNOWN]: I think, um,
06:55 --> 07:18 [UNKNOWN]: seeing Hal and John starting to wonder that they might actually maybe tell her, you know, trying to find that common ground that maybe they up to this point what we've seen haven't been willing to find with each other, setting that, you know, those seeds, I thought that was cool.
07:18 --> 07:21 [UNKNOWN]: That's always the central tension of a buddy cop.
07:25 --> 07:50 [UNKNOWN]: are how similar are we and how much in those areas where I maybe, I don't want to make this word the sound too harsh but deficient or where I maybe, you know, I don't have some skill or experience or a knack for something you have it and can we fit ourselves together in this puzzle piece so that we make a hole and that's that's always the tension of
07:54 --> 07:56 [UNKNOWN]: of the show so far from what we're seeing.
07:56 --> 07:57 [UNKNOWN]: And they're doing it really well.
07:58 --> 07:59 [UNKNOWN]: Yes, they are.
08:01 --> 08:06 [UNKNOWN]: I'm so interested in who Anton is, that reveal is going to be.
08:07 --> 08:15 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, I'm waiting for that reveal to see who he is, who his people were since they were genocided by the
08:19 --> 08:24 [UNKNOWN]: I'm sorry that the show that she'll not be named just keeps getting like all back and do existence in the show.
08:25 --> 08:25 [UNKNOWN]: No, they're not.
08:25 --> 08:30 [UNKNOWN]: No.
08:31 --> 08:36 [UNKNOWN]: I'm also interested in and have we actually met the benefactor already?
08:37 --> 08:42 [UNKNOWN]: Or is that somebody that has still has so far remained or screen?
08:44 --> 08:45 [UNKNOWN]: John Stuart Jr.
08:47 --> 08:52 [UNKNOWN]: is not a normal human being, we've got to talk about it.
08:52 --> 08:58 [UNKNOWN]: He doesn't have, you know, in DC Comics, they call meta humans, you know, super powered individuals.
08:58 --> 09:11 [UNKNOWN]: And John doesn't have a meta gene, so he's not, you know, physically anything other than a normal human being, okay, but this episode makes it clear to me that he is
09:13 --> 09:25 [UNKNOWN]: way more better than normal human beings can be because there are some things not just physically but mentally that he's able to do that set some apart.
09:25 --> 09:29 [UNKNOWN]: And I think that's part of the reason why he's in training to be a green legend.
09:30 --> 09:40 [UNKNOWN]: I wonder if the Tolkienians would call him a dunadine, a member of the dunadine, you know, because I remember when John and I did our
09:41 --> 09:53 [UNKNOWN]: Very first podcast, which is called the second age, you know, we talked about all the different races that are present in the earth and the dunidine, the dunidine are I'll probably get hate mail for some prison ever so slightly.
09:54 --> 10:02 [UNKNOWN]: They are Human beings, but they're kind of plus plus because they hung out with the bells and they so they learned all these tricks and they have sort of this.
10:04 --> 10:21 [UNKNOWN]: vibe that they picked up that makes them superior without being genetically superior, but they just have some talents and some skills and some knowledge insight into corporal existence that gives them an edge to things.
10:21 --> 10:21 [UNKNOWN]: I think that's right.
10:21 --> 10:27 [UNKNOWN]: If I'm wrong, and you're a token scholar person, please, right?
10:27 --> 10:30 [UNKNOWN]: Absolutely, let me, you know, set me straight in my way.
10:30 --> 10:33 [UNKNOWN]: But it's interesting, John Stewart is not, as you say.
10:34 --> 10:39 [UNKNOWN]: an average dude and I love that.
10:40 --> 10:47 [UNKNOWN]: This I didn't realize that I loved it until I actually saw it this episode.
10:47 --> 10:52 [UNKNOWN]: I love that portrayal when we can see that he's extra without being extra.
10:55 --> 10:55 [UNKNOWN]: right.
10:56 --> 11:17 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, and the shot, the, you know, the fan service things that they did out, you know, that they gave to us, Gotham, Kings, Moggo, all of that little, all of these little intricacies that they are linking this show to the greater DC view is what a lot of people want.
11:17 --> 11:18 [UNKNOWN]: Right.
11:19 --> 11:30 [UNKNOWN]: So we can make connections between characters and shows and movies and to we have this connected universe and I think doing it this way is really
11:31 --> 11:34 [UNKNOWN]: is really a good thing because they didn't overload us.
11:34 --> 11:39 [UNKNOWN]: They just dropped little hints that, yes, this is taking place within the shared universe.
11:40 --> 11:43 [UNKNOWN]: You may not have seen these other things, but these other things are there.
11:43 --> 11:45 [UNKNOWN]: So it's really cool.
11:45 --> 11:50 [UNKNOWN]: And as me, definitely being a not DC guy,
11:51 --> 11:57 [UNKNOWN]: I was always a kind of marvellous guy to the extent that I was any kind of guy relative to Tom.
11:57 --> 11:59 [UNKNOWN]: You were stole was guy, that was what you were.
11:59 --> 12:03 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, I was, yeah, I was a lasers and spaceships.
12:03 --> 12:04 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, you know stuff.
12:05 --> 12:05 [UNKNOWN]: Micronauts.
12:05 --> 12:06 [UNKNOWN]: That was a good comment.
12:06 --> 12:08 [UNKNOWN]: I really enjoyed the Micronauts series of comics.
12:08 --> 12:09 [UNKNOWN]: That was a fun.
12:09 --> 12:10 [UNKNOWN]: Oh, my god.
12:10 --> 12:11 [UNKNOWN]: That's a, that's it.
12:11 --> 12:11 [UNKNOWN]: Remember that.
12:12 --> 12:12 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
12:12 --> 12:13 [UNKNOWN]: That deep cut.
12:14 --> 12:14 [UNKNOWN]: Wow.
12:14 --> 12:15 [UNKNOWN]: Micronauts.
12:16 --> 12:18 [UNKNOWN]: That one could have had some micronauts.
12:19 --> 12:19 [UNKNOWN]: Why.
12:19 --> 12:20 [UNKNOWN]: That's a good one.
12:20 --> 12:21 [UNKNOWN]: That's a good one.
12:22 --> 12:22 [UNKNOWN]: Go and deep.
12:23 --> 12:24 [UNKNOWN]: That.
12:25 --> 12:26 [UNKNOWN]: I don't feel.
12:28 --> 12:52 [UNKNOWN]: I'll hear Mogo, whatever, you know, or I hear Gotham or Cosa City, and I'll think, oh, that's a weird city name, but clearly it's a, I'm, enough of a television watcher to know that that's a signal, that's an Easter egg, that's a deep cut, that's a hook for somebody who's into that world, but never wants to I feel talked down to, never wants to I feel
12:52 --> 12:58 [UNKNOWN]: like, oh crap, now I have to go watch 16 different films to catch up and understand what all this is.
12:58 --> 13:03 [UNKNOWN]: I never feel like I'm missing out because they threw in one of those things.
13:03 --> 13:14 [UNKNOWN]: And I think that's really important detail is that we as an audience no matter where we are, we can just plug into this world and trust that they're going to take us for a ride.
13:15 --> 13:16 [UNKNOWN]: that they're going to take a shopping.
13:17 --> 13:19 [UNKNOWN]: I posted a game that get in loser.
13:19 --> 13:23 [UNKNOWN]: We're going for a ride, GIF, and the Discord.
13:23 --> 13:27 [UNKNOWN]: Because I think it was a TV Mac or somebody who was just like, I mean, I'm not speculating.
13:27 --> 13:30 [UNKNOWN]: I'm just just ready to go for a drive.
13:30 --> 13:31 [UNKNOWN]: So let's go.
13:32 --> 13:33 [UNKNOWN]: So get in losers.
13:34 --> 13:35 [UNKNOWN]: We're going for a ride.
13:36 --> 13:37 [UNKNOWN]: Anything else?
13:37 --> 13:38 [UNKNOWN]: So what did you find now?
13:38 --> 13:39 [UNKNOWN]: What did I think?
13:39 --> 13:41 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, what did you think about this episode?
13:41 --> 13:57 [UNKNOWN]: I was really impressed with this as an episode two because episode two's on a new series are always really difficult because you got to take that energy and excitement from episode one where they're really trying to throw a bunch of hooks at us to get us invested and engage.
13:58 --> 14:01 [UNKNOWN]: And then you've got to take that energy on that interest.
14:02 --> 14:10 [UNKNOWN]: and translate it into a practical story that has mechanics and then you have to start setting stakes and you have to start moving the plot forward.
14:11 --> 14:12 [UNKNOWN]: So that we stay engaged.
14:12 --> 14:16 [UNKNOWN]: So I mean, we talk about it a lot of times and a lot of other shows.
14:17 --> 14:18 [UNKNOWN]: Oh, hang on, you're on.
14:18 --> 14:19 [UNKNOWN]: There's this great news show.
14:19 --> 14:22 [UNKNOWN]: I really want you to see it, but you got to hang on until like episode three or four.
14:22 --> 14:22 [UNKNOWN]: And it's all right.
14:24 --> 14:25 [UNKNOWN]: Do I have to really want to?
14:28 --> 14:32 [UNKNOWN]: And this one episode one bang okay cool characters cool world.
14:32 --> 14:43 [UNKNOWN]: This is fun like you know we got some rings stuff and we got some bad guy stuff and you know we got some some buddy cop things and and great characters and now
14:43 --> 14:54 [UNKNOWN]: we have a ticking clock, we have steaks involved, like global, like we're going to blow up a town and the Earth is an endanger.
14:54 --> 14:58 [UNKNOWN]: We've got steaks that we've learned more about the character.
14:58 --> 15:10 [UNKNOWN]: So it did all of that and all that exposition, all of that world building and never once I feel like there was a wasted scene or a dropped line or just they were packing minutes.
15:12 --> 15:17 [UNKNOWN]: to hit a studio, hey, we need this to be 48 minutes or 52 minutes, or whatever it is.
15:18 --> 15:22 [UNKNOWN]: Like they really, and this is just an expert level television storytelling.
15:23 --> 15:26 [UNKNOWN]: Right, these guys know what they're doing.
15:27 --> 15:33 [UNKNOWN]: have the freedom to do what they know how to do and I think that's the part they have the freedom to do.
15:34 --> 15:38 [UNKNOWN]: What they know, right, no one can do all kinds of things.
15:38 --> 15:39 [UNKNOWN]: You can't
15:50 --> 15:51 [UNKNOWN]: We're going to talk about that.
15:51 --> 15:51 [UNKNOWN]: That's it, dude.
15:51 --> 15:53 [UNKNOWN]: There's, oh my God.
15:53 --> 15:53 [UNKNOWN]: So good.
15:53 --> 15:54 [UNKNOWN]: So let's see other things.
15:55 --> 15:59 [UNKNOWN]: They're super hero fun stuff and oh, what about vengeance, justice and all this kind of stuff.
15:59 --> 16:03 [UNKNOWN]: But then there's like real social commentary in Larian and embedded into this thing.
16:03 --> 16:05 [UNKNOWN]: It's great.
16:05 --> 16:09 [UNKNOWN]: You know, last week we were talking about is this Gilroy.
16:10 --> 16:19 [UNKNOWN]: is this, you know, as Gilroy was to Star Wars, is this to DC, specifically in comics writ large.
16:20 --> 16:27 [UNKNOWN]: And you and I were texting offline, and that there were, we were thinking about some of the other shows that sort of fit this thing.
16:27 --> 16:28 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
16:29 --> 16:30 [UNKNOWN]: Obviously, and or right, because that's something.
16:30 --> 16:34 [UNKNOWN]: But you brought up, we talked, we were both talking about Penguin.
16:34 --> 16:35 [UNKNOWN]: You brought up Wonderman.
16:35 --> 16:36 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
16:37 --> 16:48 [UNKNOWN]: which I really like saying show, you know, because it's not as, you know, this is one of the men is not a detective show, right, solving murders or whatever, but it is round is it?
16:49 --> 16:51 [UNKNOWN]: But yeah, but it's a body thing.
16:51 --> 16:52 [UNKNOWN]: Absolutely, it's a body thing.
16:53 --> 16:54 [UNKNOWN]: It's a ground or anything.
16:54 --> 16:58 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, it's an exploration of who you are, right?
16:58 --> 17:02 [UNKNOWN]: Because I think what this show is starting to get at, what penguin definitely got at.
17:04 --> 17:07 [UNKNOWN]: And so it's not about necessarily crime or gritty or detective.
17:07 --> 17:11 [UNKNOWN]: It's about here's a grounded sort of, I don't see real world.
17:13 --> 17:22 [UNKNOWN]: But it's not just CG, it's not just green screen, it's not the script, the script doesn't exist to serve a green screen so that we can serve CG, I fight scenes at you.
17:23 --> 17:34 [UNKNOWN]: But these are characters who are portraying emotions and grappling with their lives in a way that feels very real to us as an audience.
17:38 --> 17:42 [UNKNOWN]: And I threw in sugar into my life.
17:43 --> 17:56 [UNKNOWN]: My wife and I just finished season two, and I am so hooked, and if we get a season three, if I don't do a one shot, if I don't do episode episode coverage with somebody, I will definitely do one shot on it.
17:57 --> 18:01 [UNKNOWN]: It's a fantastic show in Colin Farrell's is so good in it.
18:02 --> 18:15 [UNKNOWN]: And I think it fits this in a weird way and the kind of LA detective film noir Neil noir type of thing and I can't say anything about the plot because Because it's but I think it fits this the genre.
18:16 --> 18:21 [UNKNOWN]: So I like that we have this kind of sub genre of shows where we can get fantastical.
18:22 --> 18:39 [UNKNOWN]: and weird and otherworldly and superhero-E, but yet still have good story about characters who have tension in their lives and we have drama as opposed to just existing for the green screen.
18:39 --> 18:41 [UNKNOWN]: We're existing for the volume or whatever.
18:42 --> 18:46 [UNKNOWN]: So that said, a great action set piece with the car chase.
18:46 --> 18:47 [UNKNOWN]: I thought that was really good.
18:47 --> 18:51 [UNKNOWN]: I really love the sheriff and how I love what's going down there.
18:52 --> 18:57 [UNKNOWN]: There was a slight flaw, which we'll talk about with John Stewart.
18:58 --> 19:00 [UNKNOWN]: But we'll get there when we get to that scene.
19:00 --> 19:04 [UNKNOWN]: It was a thing that I noticed that was like, they can press something.
19:05 --> 19:05 [UNKNOWN]: Okay.
19:05 --> 19:09 [UNKNOWN]: I really like how they split the party, right, sent John off to do his own thing.
19:09 --> 19:13 [UNKNOWN]: So we get to learn about him and how he operates on his own.
19:13 --> 19:15 [UNKNOWN]: We learn that he's resourceful.
19:16 --> 19:20 [UNKNOWN]: We learn that he can follow through when he's requested to do something.
19:20 --> 19:21 [UNKNOWN]: So he's sort of trustworthy.
19:21 --> 19:24 [UNKNOWN]: And then like you've pointed out he's extra ordinary.
19:24 --> 19:25 [UNKNOWN]: There's something...
19:26 --> 19:28 [UNKNOWN]: Interesting, which then brings up questions about the father.
19:29 --> 19:30 [UNKNOWN]: A lot of people were talking about this in the discord.
19:31 --> 19:32 [UNKNOWN]: They were like, but what about the father?
19:32 --> 19:34 [UNKNOWN]: Or like, what does that mean for this?
19:35 --> 19:42 [UNKNOWN]: But then when we see how and especially how without the ring and he gets shot, he's mortal without the ring.
19:42 --> 19:43 [UNKNOWN]: He's a more man.
19:44 --> 19:45 [UNKNOWN]: He's just a dude.
19:45 --> 19:47 [UNKNOWN]: Just a dude.
19:48 --> 19:52 [UNKNOWN]: But, and without the ring, he's still interesting.
19:53 --> 19:55 [UNKNOWN]: He's still a good investigator.
19:56 --> 20:02 [UNKNOWN]: He doesn't use the ring at all this episode, except a charge it doesn't it?
20:02 --> 20:02 [UNKNOWN]: That's it.
20:03 --> 20:04 [UNKNOWN]: Oh no, he let me take it.
20:04 --> 20:06 [UNKNOWN]: No, wait, yeah, he did.
20:06 --> 20:08 [UNKNOWN]: He let me take that one time and the charge runs out.
20:08 --> 20:11 [UNKNOWN]: He just, just to figure out kind of as a charge.
20:11 --> 20:12 [UNKNOWN]: And then at the end, of course.
20:14 --> 20:14 [UNKNOWN]: And oh, right.
20:14 --> 20:15 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, when he flies up, right.
20:15 --> 20:16 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
20:16 --> 20:16 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
20:16 --> 20:17 [UNKNOWN]: So you're right.
20:17 --> 20:17 [UNKNOWN]: Okay.
20:17 --> 20:18 [UNKNOWN]: So just a couple of minor things.
20:18 --> 20:24 [UNKNOWN]: But he doesn't use it to do his job in the sense of trying to solve the mystery.
20:24 --> 20:25 [UNKNOWN]: Right.
20:26 --> 20:27 [UNKNOWN]: Right.
20:27 --> 20:34 [UNKNOWN]: And so I love that we can learn that we learn that without the ring, he is still a competent investigator.
20:35 --> 20:37 [UNKNOWN]: So I thought that that was really cool.
20:38 --> 20:43 [UNKNOWN]: But yeah, I'm loving this, and I can't, I'm just like, let's go episode three.
20:43 --> 20:48 [UNKNOWN]: At the end of this episode, I was fist-pompting the, you know, that in the credit music was great.
20:48 --> 20:50 [UNKNOWN]: I got that ban now on my Spotify list.
20:50 --> 20:53 [UNKNOWN]: I've been listening to a bunch of their out, their songs and stuff.
20:53 --> 20:57 [UNKNOWN]: So I'm super, I was super jazzed at the end of this episode.
20:58 --> 21:17 [UNKNOWN]: Real quick, I forgot to mention this at the top before we get into the feedback and of course break a couple of law things because and you know maybe we'll do this at the beginning non-spoilery law so if we hear moga or Gotham or something like that you can just sort of give us some contextual clues as to
21:20 --> 21:22 [UNKNOWN]: what we're hearing or what we're seeing in these regards.
21:23 --> 21:29 [UNKNOWN]: Obviously, coastal city, Gotham, Mogo, and then the rings.
21:30 --> 21:37 [UNKNOWN]: I think you've got some insights for us, just again, non-spoilary, but just to give us some firmer ground to walk on.
21:39 --> 21:39 [UNKNOWN]: Sounds like a plan.
21:44 --> 21:45 [UNKNOWN]: So, tell me about coastal city.
21:46 --> 21:46 [UNKNOWN]: All right, so.
21:48 --> 21:53 [UNKNOWN]: co-city co-city co-city co-city is what's happening to me for that
21:57 --> 21:58 [UNKNOWN]: Anyway, I'm kidding, I'm kidding, everybody.
21:58 --> 22:03 [UNKNOWN]: We love his house home town.
22:04 --> 22:06 [UNKNOWN]: So yeah, that's number one.
22:06 --> 22:16 [UNKNOWN]: Number two, it's where he worked at Ferris at a craft incorporating, and he was a pilot for that company.
22:17 --> 22:20 [UNKNOWN]: So he worked there.
22:20 --> 22:23 [UNKNOWN]: It's headed by Carol Ferris now, who
22:26 --> 22:29 [UNKNOWN]: eventually has a relationship with in the comic books.
22:30 --> 22:33 [UNKNOWN]: It's complicated to say the least.
22:33 --> 22:35 [UNKNOWN]: Carol also gets powers.
22:36 --> 22:39 [UNKNOWN]: It's complicated to say the least.
22:39 --> 22:43 [UNKNOWN]: So those are the things that you need to think about when you think co-city.
22:44 --> 22:54 [UNKNOWN]: As far as you can think of San Diego, LA, combined, something like that, if you want to have a real world
22:56 --> 23:09 [UNKNOWN]: Now, my one flaw is that John got from Rushville to Co-City really quickly by the time that he got there and got back.
23:09 --> 23:23 [UNKNOWN]: So by the time he calls Hal to drive to the airport, which is not in Rushville, board an airplane, fly to Co-City, to some bark, get to Hal's house.
23:25 --> 23:37 [UNKNOWN]: You know, he had six hours to do it last time and I didn't feel like six hours from the time that that how was sitting in the stadium now, do they pull I'm not nitpicking I don't really care, but I just noticed that.
23:37 --> 23:38 [UNKNOWN]: Oh, that was a really quick.
23:38 --> 23:38 [UNKNOWN]: Okay.
23:38 --> 23:39 [UNKNOWN]: Tricks for John.
23:39 --> 23:40 [UNKNOWN]: You try the science to shit out of this.
23:40 --> 23:41 [UNKNOWN]: I'm not science.
23:41 --> 23:41 [UNKNOWN]: I'm not.
23:41 --> 23:41 [UNKNOWN]: I'm not.
23:41 --> 23:42 [UNKNOWN]: I'm not.
23:42 --> 23:42 [UNKNOWN]: I'm not.
23:42 --> 23:42 [UNKNOWN]: I'm not.
23:42 --> 23:44 [UNKNOWN]: I'm not.
23:44 --> 23:44 [UNKNOWN]: I'm not.
23:44 --> 23:44 [UNKNOWN]: I'm not.
23:44 --> 23:45 [UNKNOWN]: I'm not.
23:45 --> 23:45 [UNKNOWN]: I'm not.
23:45 --> 23:45 [UNKNOWN]: I'm not.
23:45 --> 23:45 [UNKNOWN]: I'm not.
23:45 --> 23:45 [UNKNOWN]: I'm not.
23:46 --> 23:46 [UNKNOWN]: I'm not.
23:46 --> 23:46 [UNKNOWN]: I'm not.
23:46 --> 23:46 [UNKNOWN]: I'm not.
23:46 --> 23:46 [UNKNOWN]: I'm not.
23:46 --> 23:47 [UNKNOWN]: I'm not.
23:47 --> 23:47 [UNKNOWN]: I'm not.
23:47 --> 23:47 [UNKNOWN]: I'm not.
23:47 --> 23:47 [UNKNOWN]: I'm not.
23:47 --> 23:48 [UNKNOWN]: I'm not.
23:48 --> 23:48 [UNKNOWN]: I'm not.
23:48 --> 23:48 [UNKNOWN]: I'm not.
23:48 --> 23:48 [UNKNOWN]: I'm not.
23:48 --> 23:48 [UNKNOWN]: I'm not.
23:48 --> 23:49 [UNKNOWN]: I'm not.
23:49 --> 23:49 [UNKNOWN]: I'm not.
23:49 --> 23:49 [UNKNOWN]: I'm not.
23:49 --> 23:50 [UNKNOWN]: I'm not.
23:50 --> 23:50 [UNKNOWN]: I'm not.
23:50 --> 23:50 [UNKNOWN]: I'm not.
23:50 --> 23:50 [UNKNOWN]: I'm not.
23:50 --> 23:51 [UNKNOWN]: I'm not.
23:51 --> 23:51 [UNKNOWN]: I
23:52 --> 23:55 [UNKNOWN]: So we heard a drop of Gotham, right?
23:55 --> 23:58 [UNKNOWN]: We heard that sheriff carries from Gotham.
23:59 --> 24:00 [UNKNOWN]: So I don't know if it's that sense from Gotham.
24:00 --> 24:03 [UNKNOWN]: She certainly put on that country to hang for us.
24:03 --> 24:03 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
24:04 --> 24:07 [UNKNOWN]: So Gotham is the home of Bruce Wayne, Batman.
24:07 --> 24:09 [UNKNOWN]: I mean, enough said.
24:09 --> 24:10 [UNKNOWN]: Nothing.
24:13 --> 24:27 [UNKNOWN]: So Batman, if you don't know, one of the big three DC comics, you know, Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, so very central character, the city is very central to DC comic lore.
24:29 --> 24:38 [UNKNOWN]: You spoke about Penguin earlier, the show that we watched last year with Colin Ferrell as the Penguin that takes place in Gotham City.
24:39 --> 24:46 [UNKNOWN]: And we don't know where timeline-wise these things necessarily line up, but they're clearly creating a bit of a shared universe in there.
24:47 --> 24:48 [UNKNOWN]: How tight has loose?
24:49 --> 24:50 [UNKNOWN]: We don't know.
24:50 --> 24:52 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, that's the thing.
24:53 --> 24:54 [UNKNOWN]: James Gunn has said that.
24:56 --> 24:58 [UNKNOWN]: That version of Batman is it.
24:59 --> 25:00 [UNKNOWN]: It's the elsewhere world.
25:01 --> 25:01 [UNKNOWN]: OK.
25:02 --> 25:17 [UNKNOWN]: that penguins series, the Batman movie that we're with Patterson as Bruce Wayne, these are not as far as we know right now.
25:18 --> 25:26 [UNKNOWN]: The DCU Gotham Batman, Penguin, these are El Swirls, right?
25:26 --> 25:32 [UNKNOWN]: But the theory still holds that, you know, if you watch the Penguin show that it's Gotham City.
25:32 --> 25:37 [UNKNOWN]: So there's not much difference I can't imagine because Gotham is never sunny.
25:38 --> 25:45 [UNKNOWN]: So whatever you see in the Penguin or you see in Batman, the movie with Robert Patterson, that's going to be Gotham in the DCU.
25:47 --> 25:52 [UNKNOWN]: So, yeah, so how tight or how loose it is, it's fine, like we don't need to get all the way.
25:52 --> 25:56 [UNKNOWN]: Now, Mogo, we hear what it, what was the line Mogo doesn't play or something?
25:57 --> 25:58 [UNKNOWN]: Mogo doesn't socialize.
25:59 --> 25:59 [UNKNOWN]: Right.
26:00 --> 26:00 [UNKNOWN]: What's that?
26:00 --> 26:05 [UNKNOWN]: Mogo is a living, sentient planet.
26:06 --> 26:06 [UNKNOWN]: Okay.
26:07 --> 26:10 [UNKNOWN]: Roughly about the size of Earth.
26:12 --> 26:14 [UNKNOWN]: Mogo also is a green lantern.
26:16 --> 26:18 [UNKNOWN]: Oh, Mogo is a planet, but a Greenland.
26:18 --> 26:19 [UNKNOWN]: Yes, okay.
26:19 --> 26:22 [UNKNOWN]: It was a planet with its thoughts, emotions, all of that.
26:23 --> 26:30 [UNKNOWN]: Sometimes it allows people or races or to settle on itself.
26:30 --> 26:30 [UNKNOWN]: Okay.
26:30 --> 26:41 [UNKNOWN]: If they need to, so it is a planet with a conscience, with thoughts, feelings, and all of those things.
26:42 --> 26:42 [UNKNOWN]: Interesting.
26:44 --> 27:02 [UNKNOWN]: Mogo also is responsible, but when a green lantern dies, Mogo is part of the ring of that green lantern finding a new host.
27:03 --> 27:06 [UNKNOWN]: Okay, finding a new lantern.
27:07 --> 27:12 [UNKNOWN]: And we'll see if we get a Mogo citing in this show or not.
27:12 --> 27:17 [UNKNOWN]: John D. T. B. D. Now, you've got a note here about the rings.
27:18 --> 27:21 [UNKNOWN]: And you want to have this a little bit more insight or conscious.
27:21 --> 27:25 [UNKNOWN]: Sure, give me because I saw Alicia had a couple of questions.
27:25 --> 27:25 [UNKNOWN]: Cool.
27:26 --> 27:27 [UNKNOWN]: In the discord.
27:29 --> 27:33 [UNKNOWN]: about the rings and what they can, or can't do.
27:35 --> 27:44 [UNKNOWN]: So she had a question that said, one, what of the limits to the constructs of a green lantern?
27:46 --> 27:49 [UNKNOWN]: is the bird that John conjures is in the life.
27:50 --> 27:53 [UNKNOWN]: So note the green lantern ring can't create life.
27:54 --> 28:00 [UNKNOWN]: The limit is as far as the imagination of the wearer can stretch.
28:00 --> 28:02 [UNKNOWN]: Okay.
28:02 --> 28:07 [UNKNOWN]: The kind of a physical corporal reality in our world.
28:07 --> 28:10 [UNKNOWN]: So they can open a bottle or get fed into a
28:16 --> 28:19 [UNKNOWN]: a hammer and hammer your toe, right?
28:19 --> 28:21 [UNKNOWN]: Can you would feel it?
28:22 --> 28:34 [UNKNOWN]: There's a physicalness to the ring, the constructs, they exist, but they can only exist as long as the person who conjures it has the willpower to keep it operate.
28:35 --> 28:39 [UNKNOWN]: So if you fall unconscious, theoretically, yes, thing would dissolve.
28:40 --> 28:42 [UNKNOWN]: Or if you falter in your belief,
28:43 --> 28:49 [UNKNOWN]: if you fail your your concentration check, yes, the dungeons and dragons players will get this one.
28:50 --> 29:01 [UNKNOWN]: If you get a if you're as a magician, if you're using magic and something require has the concentration trait, and you get attacked or fallen at trapper something like that, you have to roll a check.
29:02 --> 29:07 [UNKNOWN]: And if you fail, then then that thing disappears or dissolves or is no longer in effect.
29:08 --> 29:10 [UNKNOWN]: So yeah, we there's a world that we can understand this.
29:11 --> 29:23 [UNKNOWN]: So the bird is not alive, but the bird only exists as long as John can keep it existing.
29:24 --> 29:31 [UNKNOWN]: The moment he decides, while this is no longer real, it's gone.
29:40 --> 29:48 [UNKNOWN]: their constructs can be can break a green lantern's construct.
29:49 --> 29:57 [UNKNOWN]: Like in the comics, the one weakness a green lantern ring had was that yellow lantern power.
29:57 --> 30:02 [UNKNOWN]: It could not affect anything that a yellow light ring were did.
30:03 --> 30:03 [UNKNOWN]: Interesting.
30:03 --> 30:07 [UNKNOWN]: So they were that was it's like Superman and
30:09 --> 30:18 [UNKNOWN]: Green lantern green ring yellow lanterns yellow ring was the green lanterns script tonight Interesting fear was that good tonight.
30:18 --> 30:22 [UNKNOWN]: Okay I wonder if that's color wheel stuff right.
30:22 --> 30:32 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, so opposite colors and things like that Red lanterns the wheel does of the motion of rage Can break any construct from any other ring.
30:33 --> 30:34 [UNKNOWN]: Oh wow Okay
30:35 --> 30:40 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, because yellow and green are not opposite each other on the color wheel.
30:40 --> 30:40 [UNKNOWN]: That's interesting.
30:41 --> 30:42 [UNKNOWN]: They're, they're proximal.
30:42 --> 30:43 [UNKNOWN]: They're next to each other.
30:45 --> 30:50 [UNKNOWN]: I think that was, there was something else, Alicia wanted to know.
30:51 --> 30:55 [UNKNOWN]: And this, I didn't include it in the feedbacks, so I write it in after, after we've done.
30:57 --> 30:58 [UNKNOWN]: The man hunters.
30:58 --> 30:59 [UNKNOWN]: Right?
30:59 --> 31:00 [UNKNOWN]: Oh, yeah.
31:01 --> 31:09 [UNKNOWN]: Um, men hunters are shape shifters if a man hunter gets killed when they are in another form they they revert back to their original form at death.
31:10 --> 31:18 [UNKNOWN]: I thought about this and I don't have an example of that occurring.
31:19 --> 31:34 [UNKNOWN]: I can't think of a man hunter who was shifted as something else and then being destroyed and then reverting back to their form, their original robotic form.
31:34 --> 31:37 [UNKNOWN]: So that I don't have a country answer to.
31:37 --> 31:39 [UNKNOWN]: I have not seen that personally.
31:39 --> 31:40 [UNKNOWN]: Okay.
31:41 --> 31:46 [UNKNOWN]: When I've seen man hunters destroyed, they were almost always, not almost always, they
31:48 --> 31:54 [UNKNOWN]: in their real body, original body, not as a shifted personal thing.
31:56 --> 31:57 [UNKNOWN]: Got it, okay.
31:59 --> 32:03 [UNKNOWN]: So speaking of man hunters, that's a good segue.
32:05 --> 32:07 [UNKNOWN]: We now have this central mystery.
32:07 --> 32:13 [UNKNOWN]: Who is the man hunter in the town that we have 48 hours to find?
32:13 --> 32:19 [UNKNOWN]: And obviously, that has sparked a lot of conversation and theory crafting across the internet.
32:20 --> 32:24 [UNKNOWN]: I ran a real quick poll, little informal poll.
32:24 --> 32:35 [UNKNOWN]: I've got, well, until they give us the answers of this, you know, maybe we'll drop one of these little fun little polls in the discord every week after the episode, just to see where folks are trending.
32:35 --> 32:47 [UNKNOWN]: I put on the list share of carry, William Macon, Billy Macon, Noah Macon, right to kid, Zoe Macon, or someone we have not yet met.
32:48 --> 32:54 [UNKNOWN]: William got two votes, Zoey got seven, and someone we've not yet met, also got seven.
32:55 --> 33:06 [UNKNOWN]: So I did hear on another podcast that there was a lot of theories around maybe it's Noah as well and that we know that could be an interesting thing.
33:06 --> 33:08 [UNKNOWN]: I have a theory about what
33:08 --> 33:11 [UNKNOWN]: The man hunter might be doing with the making militia.
33:11 --> 33:14 [UNKNOWN]: We could talk about it later when we get to the ranch scene and get a guess a little bit.
33:15 --> 33:20 [UNKNOWN]: But, and I know, John, you are not in the theory crafting.
33:20 --> 33:22 [UNKNOWN]: So, and nobody's holding any bets here.
33:22 --> 33:24 [UNKNOWN]: We're not putting down any internet points.
33:25 --> 33:27 [UNKNOWN]: But, who would you like it to be?
33:28 --> 33:30 [UNKNOWN]: Who would I like it to be?
33:30 --> 33:30 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
33:31 --> 33:32 [UNKNOWN]: Oh, man.
33:33 --> 33:35 [UNKNOWN]: Who do you think you would be a fun reveal?
33:35 --> 33:36 [UNKNOWN]: OK, got it.
33:37 --> 33:44 [UNKNOWN]: I would love it to be someone we've not met yet because I don't think it's any of these people that we have in our current home.
33:44 --> 33:45 [UNKNOWN]: Okay.
33:46 --> 33:48 [UNKNOWN]: And I'm especially interested in Zoey.
33:51 --> 33:55 [UNKNOWN]: Because there's a scene that really
33:57 --> 34:01 [UNKNOWN]: that they set my spider senses tingling?
34:01 --> 34:04 [UNKNOWN]: Oh, wait, this is really interesting right here.
34:04 --> 34:06 [UNKNOWN]: Why do you tell me that in this way?
34:06 --> 34:06 [UNKNOWN]: Okay.
34:08 --> 34:13 [UNKNOWN]: So yeah, I don't I don't think is any of these characters cool fun.
34:13 --> 34:14 [UNKNOWN]: All right.
34:14 --> 34:16 [UNKNOWN]: Well, we'll keep we'll keep having some fun with this one.
34:16 --> 34:18 [UNKNOWN]: I'll keep showing the poll up until we get an answer.
34:18 --> 34:21 [UNKNOWN]: We'll just keep playing with it in in a sort of a fun way.
34:22 --> 34:31 [UNKNOWN]: We got two pieces of feedback email this week from Connor M who is a green ointurn phonetic self described.
34:32 --> 34:42 [UNKNOWN]: Connor actually sent me three emails sent me an email with some a couple of panels from a comic book.
34:42 --> 34:48 [UNKNOWN]: Did you see that email by chance are you I didn't see that one okay I'm sure first to have an I didn't see the one with the pen.
34:48 --> 34:52 [UNKNOWN]: I wonder if he if it came to me directly Because it was like a reply.
34:52 --> 34:54 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, it was just a reply to me.
34:54 --> 34:56 [UNKNOWN]: I'll forward this to you.
34:56 --> 34:58 [UNKNOWN]: Okay, or here maybe I can actually
34:58 --> 35:03 [UNKNOWN]: drop these into our private chat.
35:04 --> 35:08 [UNKNOWN]: Let's see, what does he say here about this?
35:08 --> 35:10 [UNKNOWN]: Let me close my email again.
35:11 --> 35:16 [UNKNOWN]: Connor said it thought you might enjoy this from a very recent Green Lantern Comment relation to our prior exchange.
35:16 --> 35:27 [UNKNOWN]: It features Sinestro of all people showing off why he was once called the greatest of Green Lanterns and explaining exactly what it means to be a member
35:34 --> 35:41 [UNKNOWN]: And let me get it into our little chat here on Yield Discord.
35:41 --> 35:44 [UNKNOWN]: There's one and there are really cool panels, too.
35:46 --> 35:53 [UNKNOWN]: And if you want to scan or hear why don't I read his first email?
35:54 --> 35:57 [UNKNOWN]: And then we can talk about that and then we'll get into the second email.
35:58 --> 36:02 [UNKNOWN]: Conor says firstly I have to say green lantern is my favorite comics and I read it all.
36:03 --> 36:09 [UNKNOWN]: Secondly, I'm so excited the warhounds are covering it as you are my absolute favorite podcast.
36:12 --> 36:17 [UNKNOWN]: I hope the show can be a gateway for you all to desire to read Green Lantern.
36:17 --> 36:22 [UNKNOWN]: Our little recruitment here, Connor is not being subtle about his recruitment.
36:23 --> 36:33 [UNKNOWN]: Thirdly, I know you have probably heard this a lot, but I just need to echo it, Kyle and Aaron are absolutely killing it in their roles as Hal and John.
36:33 --> 36:36 [UNKNOWN]: I have to say this is some generational casting.
36:36 --> 36:48 [UNKNOWN]: I see them as embodying the characters to the same degree as the RDJ Iron Man Patrick Stewart Proff X and Chris Evans, Captain America Steve Rogers.
36:49 --> 37:03 [UNKNOWN]: I'll try to chime in each week with some sought thoughts as a massive comic fan, but I wanted to start with this phrase for the show lastly to anyone who has issues with the show not being massive space opera right away.
37:03 --> 37:12 [UNKNOWN]: I'll remind you that the most celebrated run of Greenlander and comics starts with multiple stories of how being grounded on Earth.
37:20 --> 37:21 [UNKNOWN]: No, I agree.
37:26 --> 37:26 [UNKNOWN]: Fair enough.
37:27 --> 37:27 [UNKNOWN]: Fair enough.
37:27 --> 37:28 [UNKNOWN]: Did you see these two panels?
37:29 --> 37:30 [UNKNOWN]: Yes, I see them.
37:31 --> 37:31 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
37:32 --> 37:32 [UNKNOWN]: I see them.
37:33 --> 37:34 [UNKNOWN]: And I think that's pretty sweet.
37:34 --> 37:38 [UNKNOWN]: That's a beautiful, like, just the first one that says gorgeous.
37:40 --> 37:54 [UNKNOWN]: Maybe I'll post it once we get the episode released, I maybe I'll drop these two panels into the discord channel for folks to see that they have context because if I drop it now people whatever so all right Connor then sent me a whole other sent us a whole other email
37:56 --> 37:57 [UNKNOWN]: And it starts off like this.
37:57 --> 38:02 [UNKNOWN]: I had a thought while rewatching the episode and I figured I would bring it up to you so you can discuss.
38:02 --> 38:12 [UNKNOWN]: In the comics, when choosing the ring, when chosen, the ring will say, David, Laura, out of earth, you have the ability to overcome great fear.
38:13 --> 38:15 [UNKNOWN]: Welcome to the Green Lantern Corps.
38:15 --> 38:21 [UNKNOWN]: Notice in how story he says, he says, it's said, are you afraid?
38:22 --> 38:25 [UNKNOWN]: is this the show changing the ring's statement.
38:26 --> 38:34 [UNKNOWN]: The interesting thing with the comic statement is that Jeff Johns used that language to change how the ring works.
38:35 --> 38:42 [UNKNOWN]: Overcoming fear means you can use the ring against the color yellow.
38:42 --> 39:01 [UNKNOWN]: uh... i guess jeff johns is uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... ex-today okay uh... uh... not the creator of green lanterns but uh... no no no no a core writer of one of the the greats of the green lanterns series i would guess you are no he was uh... he was uh... big writer
39:03 --> 39:12 [UNKNOWN]: of how Jordan got some of the stories of the seminal stories for the Green Lantern that we know today.
39:13 --> 39:22 [UNKNOWN]: I wonder if he is like where is it in my maybe I wonder if he's a Tom Osborne of the Green Lantern comics.
39:22 --> 39:23 [UNKNOWN]: But we'll get there.
39:23 --> 39:25 [UNKNOWN]: We'll talk about Tom Osborne in a minute.
39:26 --> 39:27 [UNKNOWN]: That was a great cut, too.
39:27 --> 39:29 [UNKNOWN]: I had to look down on that.
39:30 --> 39:39 [UNKNOWN]: Anyway, Connor continues, is this how lying is this how lying about what happened and we get a reveal later on?
39:39 --> 39:44 [UNKNOWN]: They could reveal later on in the show that how lied and this is what the ring really said.
39:45 --> 39:52 [UNKNOWN]: Meaning people who would want to steal the ring's power don't actually know what it means to wield it.
39:53 --> 39:57 [UNKNOWN]: is this the way it happens specifically for how but not for others.
39:58 --> 40:12 [UNKNOWN]: Abon could have been, Abon could have needed a reckless fearless person instead of a person with only the ability to overcome simply because of the mission he was on when he was shot down.
40:13 --> 40:20 [UNKNOWN]: In the comics, Atrocious was a prisoner on Oben's ship and caused the devastation.
40:20 --> 40:22 [UNKNOWN]: He later created the red lanterns.
40:22 --> 40:27 [UNKNOWN]: We could see being part of that play out with the vengeance line.
40:28 --> 40:37 [UNKNOWN]: more over in the comics when Aben dies the ring informs him of two equivalent and suitable matches on earth, Guy and Hal.
40:37 --> 40:40 [UNKNOWN]: Aben says to go with the closer of the two, which is Hal.
40:41 --> 40:45 [UNKNOWN]: Something similar could have happened in the DCU, which is why we have Guy in the modern day.
40:46 --> 40:51 [UNKNOWN]: He was in a equivalent choice to Hal, and after Hal does something, the Guardian sent
40:56 --> 40:58 [UNKNOWN]: There's, should we pause there?
40:59 --> 40:59 [UNKNOWN]: No, no.
41:00 --> 41:00 [UNKNOWN]: Okay.
41:00 --> 41:04 [UNKNOWN]: There's also the issue of John Stewart's senior.
41:04 --> 41:09 [UNKNOWN]: He seems to know about and be training junior for the ring.
41:09 --> 41:16 [UNKNOWN]: There might be a world where they took the how guy choice from the comic and made it a John Stewart senior.
41:16 --> 41:16 [UNKNOWN]: How?
41:17 --> 41:18 [UNKNOWN]: choice in the show.
41:19 --> 41:26 [UNKNOWN]: I look forward to the next episode immensely and I hope you're all able to enjoy this show as much as I am, Connor M. Greenland term.
41:27 --> 41:38 [UNKNOWN]: I love the fact that Connor is as big a fan as we are going to likely encounter in our community.
41:41 --> 41:53 [UNKNOWN]: and can enjoy and derive as much pleasure and enjoyment of the show simultaneously with Conner's love of the comics at the same time.
41:53 --> 41:57 [UNKNOWN]: That means that the show runners are doing their jobs really well.
41:57 --> 41:58 [UNKNOWN]: That's exactly exactly.
42:01 --> 42:06 [UNKNOWN]: So, Connor lays down some serious thoughts here.
42:07 --> 42:11 [UNKNOWN]: and some really poses some really interesting questions.
42:11 --> 42:14 [UNKNOWN]: Do you have any reactions to what he was talking about here?
42:15 --> 42:28 [UNKNOWN]: No, I think, you know, what he said again, I agree with, you know, the interesting part for me with the show
42:35 --> 42:37 [UNKNOWN]: can and can't do, right?
42:37 --> 42:43 [UNKNOWN]: Because in the beginning, yellow was the kryptonite, right?
42:45 --> 42:57 [UNKNOWN]: After rebirth, I think it was rebirth, it might have been DC rebirth, which is maybe at the 2009, 2010, I think, I'll have to go back to it.
42:57 --> 42:58 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
42:58 --> 42:58 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
42:59 --> 42:59 [UNKNOWN]: So,
43:02 --> 43:09 [UNKNOWN]: you could overcome fear, right, which meant that you could overcome the yellow light powers.
43:10 --> 43:17 [UNKNOWN]: will the show, like Hannah asked, will the show which one of these routes will the show take?
43:17 --> 43:17 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
43:18 --> 43:26 [UNKNOWN]: I think that's what's most interesting to me about the whole spectrum right now is which one of these paths will the show take?
43:27 --> 43:32 [UNKNOWN]: Will there be a weakness to the rings outside of them not being powered?
43:34 --> 43:37 [UNKNOWN]: Which is something else that they will have to overcome?
43:37 --> 43:38 [UNKNOWN]: Okay.
43:39 --> 43:39 [UNKNOWN]: right?
43:39 --> 43:51 [UNKNOWN]: So if you can't affect what the opposition is doing and they have a counter to what you're doing, how do you defeat them?
43:52 --> 43:56 [UNKNOWN]: Will that be in play with this series?
43:58 --> 44:01 [UNKNOWN]: So yeah, that remains to be seen.
44:02 --> 44:04 [UNKNOWN]: It's all about which direction do they take?
44:04 --> 44:07 [UNKNOWN]: Do they do they do the classical?
44:07 --> 44:09 [UNKNOWN]: Do they go with the modern?
44:09 --> 44:14 [UNKNOWN]: And I feel, or something that we have yet to something in between.
44:14 --> 44:20 [UNKNOWN]: Because these eccentric white men are the kind of eccentric white men who can fill these kinds of castles.
44:21 --> 44:22 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, that's right.
44:24 --> 44:25 [UNKNOWN]: And have the freedom to do so.
44:26 --> 44:33 [UNKNOWN]: Yes, the print also guide and also with the question of John Stewart's senior.
44:34 --> 44:36 [UNKNOWN]: what does John, so juicy.
44:36 --> 44:39 [UNKNOWN]: So it's senior, no, what does he know?
44:40 --> 44:42 [UNKNOWN]: And everybody's been keying on that.
44:42 --> 44:47 [UNKNOWN]: Like a lot of the discord conversation has been keyed off of, yeah, what's up with dads?
44:48 --> 44:48 [UNKNOWN]: Right?
44:49 --> 44:49 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
44:49 --> 44:57 [UNKNOWN]: And I'll say something that's about the comic father, as opposed to the TV show father.
44:57 --> 44:58 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
44:58 --> 44:59 [UNKNOWN]: We'll see.
44:59 --> 45:00 [UNKNOWN]: Okay.
45:01 --> 45:01 [UNKNOWN]: Alright, little, let's do this.
45:01 --> 45:05 [UNKNOWN]: Let's take a break and then we'll start to get into our scene by scene break down.
45:14 --> 45:15 [UNKNOWN]: And we're back.
45:15 --> 45:34 [UNKNOWN]: All right, scene by scene breakdown, cold open wake up call how wakes John with a bucket of water refuses to call the guardians about the football field deaths and assisting that he's still training John outside the days whole lesson is fly and when John can't get off the ground his subconscious throws up a little green bird construct and said.
45:35 --> 45:40 [UNKNOWN]: Hal, thrown by it, tells John to drop the Sir, the ring warns that it's nearly dead.
45:41 --> 45:59 [UNKNOWN]: Hal does a one time recharge and gives John a new flight plan, which is to go to Coast City to fetch the lantern and keeping the bird alive and feeding Earl, whoever, whatever that is, which will meet.
46:00 --> 46:03 [UNKNOWN]: What did you make of the opening scene?
46:05 --> 46:06 [UNKNOWN]: Oh, I loved it.
46:07 --> 46:08 [UNKNOWN]: I thought it was so great.
46:09 --> 46:11 [UNKNOWN]: When he says, fly.
46:13 --> 46:19 [UNKNOWN]: I'm with John, like, that's the only thing you don't tell me.
46:19 --> 46:23 [UNKNOWN]: Like, yeah, that's all the instruction that you're giving me.
46:23 --> 46:25 [UNKNOWN]: That's all, that's everything.
46:26 --> 46:26 [UNKNOWN]: Fly.
46:27 --> 46:32 [UNKNOWN]: I'm like, this fucking guy is just like helping, right?
46:32 --> 46:34 [UNKNOWN]: But the thing that's so interesting is that,
46:36 --> 46:43 [UNKNOWN]: when John, you know, comically tries to get off the ground.
46:44 --> 46:44 [UNKNOWN]: Right.
46:44 --> 46:48 [UNKNOWN]: I love the way they filmed that, too, with him, like, getting up on his tp toes each time.
46:48 --> 46:49 [UNKNOWN]: It's over there.
46:50 --> 46:53 [UNKNOWN]: And how takes, like, a half step backwards?
46:53 --> 46:55 [UNKNOWN]: Like, oh, yeah, let me get it.
46:56 --> 46:56 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, he reacts.
46:56 --> 47:01 [UNKNOWN]: He's like, whoa, because he thought maybe he can actually do it.
47:01 --> 47:03 [UNKNOWN]: You know what I mean for that half second?
47:03 --> 47:05 [UNKNOWN]: Like, oh, he's actually going to do it.
47:06 --> 47:16 [UNKNOWN]: And what he does is create a bird, which is not a easy thing to create, right?
47:17 --> 47:24 [UNKNOWN]: But it's not what he needs to create in the moment, which is exactly what we spoke about in the first episode.
47:26 --> 47:29 [UNKNOWN]: how John has seen the world in processing.
47:30 --> 47:32 [UNKNOWN]: Yes, everything.
47:32 --> 47:32 [UNKNOWN]: Right.
47:32 --> 47:38 [UNKNOWN]: The theory already has brought manifest by the ring.
47:38 --> 47:42 [UNKNOWN]: So the ring is this, uh, this, uh, wind to hold to the soul.
47:43 --> 47:43 [UNKNOWN]: Exactly.
47:43 --> 47:44 [UNKNOWN]: Right.
47:44 --> 47:47 [UNKNOWN]: And he, he conjures up, and it's not like a,
47:48 --> 47:51 [UNKNOWN]: Eagle, you know, a bird of prey.
47:52 --> 47:53 [UNKNOWN]: Right.
47:53 --> 47:54 [UNKNOWN]: It's an LBJ.
47:54 --> 47:59 [UNKNOWN]: Well, we, or it's LBG, a little L, G, B.
48:00 --> 48:10 [UNKNOWN]: Little was in, in the burger world, you, a small bird in the thicket underbrush, and you can't quite see what is, is an LBJ, a little brown job.
48:10 --> 48:12 [UNKNOWN]: So this little green job.
48:13 --> 48:13 [UNKNOWN]: It does
48:19 --> 48:30 [UNKNOWN]: He has this, you know, obviously, Marine trained sniper and we already know what his childhood was like.
48:31 --> 48:39 [UNKNOWN]: The intensity of his childhood, the, the, you know, I would say abusive childhood.
48:40 --> 48:40 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
48:42 --> 48:42 [UNKNOWN]: And fly.
48:45 --> 48:47 [UNKNOWN]: And he knows what it means to fly, right?
48:48 --> 48:54 [UNKNOWN]: He knows, you know, I've seen how stored, how stored, I've seen how Jordan do it.
48:55 --> 49:02 [UNKNOWN]: And he can't, but what he does is imagine a bird, a little tweet.
49:02 --> 49:14 [UNKNOWN]: No, she, a little tweet bird that we, how many people were not sad when he disposes of the construct at the end.
49:15 --> 49:18 [UNKNOWN]: Like, you know, hey, dude, that's your familiar.
49:18 --> 49:19 [UNKNOWN]: What are you doing?
49:19 --> 49:21 [UNKNOWN]: Like, we all loved that bird.
49:22 --> 49:29 [UNKNOWN]: I'm going to assert that everybody who watched this episode was in love with that bird by the time that the episode came to a conclusion.
49:29 --> 49:31 [UNKNOWN]: And we were all talking about it.
49:31 --> 49:32 [UNKNOWN]: That's just a bird.
49:32 --> 49:33 [UNKNOWN]: It's just a bird.
49:34 --> 49:35 [UNKNOWN]: So good.
49:35 --> 49:37 [UNKNOWN]: For us, it's like, it's not just a bird, John.
49:38 --> 49:40 [UNKNOWN]: We know you have feelings, man.
49:41 --> 49:49 [UNKNOWN]: That's a really good point because we're this is the interior already of John that he's snuffing out a little part of himself that we fall in in love with.
49:51 --> 49:58 [UNKNOWN]: So this entire sequence is just from the when you see John is asleep.
49:59 --> 50:03 [UNKNOWN]: And the shadowy figure, you know, very horror movie, right?
50:03 --> 50:09 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, and they're like, oh shit, what's going on?
50:09 --> 50:13 [UNKNOWN]: And then what was something that is just how, that's cold water.
50:16 --> 50:18 [UNKNOWN]: Like, come on, dude, this is how you got to wake me up.
50:19 --> 50:24 [UNKNOWN]: We think of this, which is building more of that tension between them and how being a jerk.
50:26 --> 50:29 [UNKNOWN]: and we see still how step off that later with Sheriff Kerry.
50:30 --> 50:47 [UNKNOWN]: But I thought the thing that was interesting too about that particular scene was it free primes us for the danger that John is going to face on during this episode when he gets kidnapped, you know, which we don't know at that point.
50:47 --> 50:49 [UNKNOWN]: But it sort of is a signaling.
50:49 --> 50:53 [UNKNOWN]: It's priming us for stuff is about to happen to John
50:57 --> 51:06 [UNKNOWN]: And then another telling character moment is that you know, how doesn't, you know, it's like, why would I, I'm not calling the guardians.
51:06 --> 51:10 [UNKNOWN]: I'm not calling him to, to, to HQ, but John would have.
51:10 --> 51:11 [UNKNOWN]: He's like, what do you mean you did?
51:11 --> 51:15 [UNKNOWN]: Like, there's, you know, you're supposed to report in this kind of stuff.
51:16 --> 51:21 [UNKNOWN]: You're supposed to keep your superior regularly reported, which he does later at the end.
51:21 --> 51:24 [UNKNOWN]: He says, I report to you, right?
51:24 --> 51:25 [UNKNOWN]: So he's following jurisdiction.
51:25 --> 51:26 [UNKNOWN]: He's following chain of command.
51:26 --> 51:30 [UNKNOWN]: He's playing correctly in that regard.
51:31 --> 51:36 [UNKNOWN]: But then when Hal says, unclean, like that was hilarious line.
51:40 --> 51:41 [UNKNOWN]: Which I think I wonder, you know, Hal is
51:42 --> 51:58 [UNKNOWN]: Did somebody say this in the discord that how just challenges people to try to get reactions out of them to try to sort of pry and underneath them and the one time that he did give John respect was when he did something really transgressive, which was to sleep with another person spouse, right?
52:00 --> 52:04 [UNKNOWN]: And that's the one time how I was like, all right, Junior, you know, you got some game going on.
52:12 --> 52:15 [UNKNOWN]: You know, how is not just a ask because he's asked, right?
52:16 --> 52:23 [UNKNOWN]: I think what we see in this episode is also that the toll that it's being a green lantern has taken on him.
52:24 --> 52:25 [UNKNOWN]: Right.
52:25 --> 52:26 [UNKNOWN]: True.
52:26 --> 52:26 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
52:26 --> 52:31 [UNKNOWN]: And we see the 10 years ago version of Hal in the little video memo.
52:31 --> 52:35 [UNKNOWN]: I feel like, you know, I felt his weakness in this episode.
52:37 --> 52:39 [UNKNOWN]: I felt his age in this episode.
52:39 --> 52:47 [UNKNOWN]: I felt like everything coming on, you know, condensing upon his shoulders in this episode.
52:48 --> 52:53 [UNKNOWN]: And he, I don't think he's just a ass because he's born a ass.
52:53 --> 52:57 [UNKNOWN]: How Jordan is an ass, don't you?
52:58 --> 53:01 [UNKNOWN]: He can't be a jerk, I'm not saying he's not.
53:02 --> 53:08 [UNKNOWN]: But there I think life has jaded him, you know, and he seems there will be reasons.
53:09 --> 53:13 [UNKNOWN]: There will be reasons, and you'll see, we start to see those reasons at the end of this episode.
53:14 --> 53:15 [UNKNOWN]: Yes, we do.
53:16 --> 53:16 [UNKNOWN]: Yes, we do.
53:17 --> 53:19 [UNKNOWN]: A couple of things before we move on to the next scene.
53:19 --> 53:33 [UNKNOWN]: I like that house advice for fly is not dissimilar to the advice that John was giving Noah, which is, you know, you don't don't think about it.
53:33 --> 53:35 [UNKNOWN]: Don't and don't aim, right?
53:35 --> 53:39 [UNKNOWN]: Don't try to mechanically do it, just envision it and then allow it to happen.
53:40 --> 53:40 [UNKNOWN]: And in a way, that's what
53:42 --> 53:44 [UNKNOWN]: how is saying to John, I'm a pilot.
53:44 --> 53:46 [UNKNOWN]: It comes instinctually to me.
53:46 --> 53:49 [UNKNOWN]: So that's the zone that you need to get yourself in.
53:49 --> 53:50 [UNKNOWN]: Now he's not coaching.
53:50 --> 53:55 [UNKNOWN]: He's not providing him any other sort of additional support to move into that headspace.
53:55 --> 53:57 [UNKNOWN]: But it's the same thing that John was saying to know it.
53:58 --> 53:58 [UNKNOWN]: So I like that.
53:59 --> 54:03 [UNKNOWN]: And it was really interesting that how was generally confused by the appearance of the bird?
54:04 --> 54:16 [UNKNOWN]: It really baits him pause and think, which is an amazing job that Kyle Chandler's doing in that moment because it's a blink and you miss it moment, but it really affected him.
54:17 --> 54:18 [UNKNOWN]: It was like, how did he do that?
54:18 --> 54:18 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
54:19 --> 54:21 [UNKNOWN]: That was the look on his face.
54:21 --> 54:22 [UNKNOWN]: Wait a minute, how did he do that?
54:23 --> 54:25 [UNKNOWN]: And it's being weird.
54:25 --> 54:29 [UNKNOWN]: So then he does the whole re-charge bit, which I have an audio clip of here.
54:34 --> 54:35 [UNKNOWN]: All right, no less.
54:35 --> 54:36 [UNKNOWN]: Gratis, give me the ring.
54:37 --> 54:39 [UNKNOWN]: Come on.
54:39 --> 54:40 [UNKNOWN]: You got a problem?
54:41 --> 54:41 [UNKNOWN]: Mh.
54:41 --> 54:41 [UNKNOWN]: Mh.
54:44 --> 54:47 [UNKNOWN]: Ring gets low on charges, and he's confused.
54:47 --> 54:48 [UNKNOWN]: He himes for three up.
54:48 --> 54:49 [UNKNOWN]: He's got a hit of flush.
54:51 --> 54:53 [UNKNOWN]: Ring charge you five percent.
54:55 --> 55:05 [UNKNOWN]: So, uh, foreshadowing here, like this is going to come back later, the ring recharge thing, and because they really make a point if you got to hit it flush.
55:06 --> 55:11 [UNKNOWN]: So, you know, when, when will we see this come up again, uh, later in the episode?
55:11 --> 55:13 [UNKNOWN]: So, uh, just highlighting that.
55:14 --> 55:16 [UNKNOWN]: And then, real quick.
55:16 --> 55:20 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, yeah, I'm telling him telling John to fly.
55:26 --> 55:27 [UNKNOWN]: Is that okay?
55:28 --> 55:28 [UNKNOWN]: Okay.
55:28 --> 55:28 [UNKNOWN]: Right.
55:29 --> 55:29 [UNKNOWN]: Good to see.
55:30 --> 55:51 [UNKNOWN]: I very There's a part of me that wants to believe that how wanted to see What the outcome of this would be Because I I have to think that he knew that he wouldn't be able to just He might be able to levitate as how as how did but he wouldn't be able to fly
55:52 --> 56:18 [UNKNOWN]: because he already built him a ticket and there's no way that he could have yeah and so and I think in the interrogation scene the alien says to him like did you bring your lantern to recharge yes yes yes so we don't know does howl even know how much charge is left in it I don't know is there like a little battery meter on the ring or you know it will tell you
56:19 --> 56:20 [UNKNOWN]: Well, I told this here.
56:20 --> 56:20 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
56:20 --> 56:22 [UNKNOWN]: Right, but I'm sure that's what I'm saying.
56:22 --> 56:26 [UNKNOWN]: I had to have happened or screen.
56:26 --> 56:32 [UNKNOWN]: And he's got to have so much experience with this ring that he has sort of been innate sense of how much it's got.
56:33 --> 56:39 [UNKNOWN]: Because even in the interrogation scene, he tells the alien, I've got enough power to
56:40 --> 56:41 [UNKNOWN]: do what I need to do.
56:41 --> 56:45 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, to just, you know, encapsulate the glass.
56:45 --> 56:47 [UNKNOWN]: And that took a lot of time to offer that.
56:47 --> 56:49 [UNKNOWN]: And that's what we said.
56:49 --> 56:49 [UNKNOWN]: I have enough for that.
56:49 --> 56:50 [UNKNOWN]: I know I have enough for that.
56:51 --> 56:51 [UNKNOWN]: Don't worry about that.
56:52 --> 57:00 [UNKNOWN]: So, so kind of a good safety treasure to their measure, so that if John did fly and he went supersonic and lost control.
57:01 --> 57:05 [UNKNOWN]: He wouldn't go far because the ring isn't going to let him get very far.
57:05 --> 57:07 [UNKNOWN]: If he is able to get far at all.
57:07 --> 57:11 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, I just think I thought in the moment that he knew that he wouldn't be able to fly.
57:12 --> 57:12 [UNKNOWN]: Right, right.
57:13 --> 57:15 [UNKNOWN]: And he was looking to see what would come out of that.
57:16 --> 57:16 [UNKNOWN]: Got it.
57:16 --> 57:17 [UNKNOWN]: Well, he got it.
57:17 --> 57:22 [UNKNOWN]: What came out of it was something that he was not, he was not prepared for.
57:22 --> 57:25 [UNKNOWN]: Because in that bird is existing without the ring.
57:26 --> 57:28 [UNKNOWN]: Because the ring doesn't have enough power to keep it running.
57:29 --> 57:30 [UNKNOWN]: Well, it's not the ring.
57:31 --> 57:38 [UNKNOWN]: As long as the ring is powered at some point, the ring was the tool that translated something else going on.
57:38 --> 57:44 [UNKNOWN]: Yes, because now the bird is solely existing because of John's willpower.
57:44 --> 57:45 [UNKNOWN]: Exactly.
57:45 --> 57:50 [UNKNOWN]: Whoa, John can use the power without the ring.
57:50 --> 57:51 [UNKNOWN]: That's the point.
57:52 --> 57:54 [UNKNOWN]: It's only existing because of John's willpower.
57:56 --> 57:57 [UNKNOWN]: There you go.
57:57 --> 57:58 [UNKNOWN]: There you go.
57:58 --> 58:00 [UNKNOWN]: Okay, let's move on title card right though.
58:00 --> 58:02 [UNKNOWN]: There's so much good stuff there title card.
58:02 --> 58:10 [UNKNOWN]: Did you notice the lantern color and text is more yellow than it is green like clearly signaling to me.
58:10 --> 58:11 [UNKNOWN]: We'll see
58:13 --> 58:31 [UNKNOWN]: uh... i got into that with a dead in the duerex guys last week uh... i think you're gonna go on next week your schedule to to hang out with those guys after episode three i am excited for that episode i can't wait for you to can't wait to hear that president is a weird technology day
58:32 --> 58:34 [UNKNOWN]: we had a problem with our system.
58:34 --> 58:38 [UNKNOWN]: We have changed to a different recording platform for this podcast.
58:39 --> 58:41 [UNKNOWN]: In the meantime, lots of going on.
58:41 --> 58:50 [UNKNOWN]: My sixth grader has come home from our first day of school, which is crazy and they're doing their homework, her and her friend.
58:52 --> 58:56 [UNKNOWN]: And I was not going to apply, I had a client meeting earlier, and we were having all kinds of technology.
58:56 --> 59:02 [UNKNOWN]: It's just been a technology challenging day, so anyway, I think we're ready now.
59:03 --> 59:17 [UNKNOWN]: So if folks notice any kind of audio quality difference or whatever, I'm going to try and smooth that out, but I'll see if we can get us into a good position for this next part of our conversation.
59:19 --> 59:20 [UNKNOWN]: And I think we left off.
59:20 --> 59:24 [UNKNOWN]: We were just about to get into the town meeting stuff right after the title card.
59:26 --> 59:33 [UNKNOWN]: So we've got how revisits the football field and discovers that the magnitometers don't actually react to metal.
59:34 --> 59:46 [UNKNOWN]: He drives through a strangely empty rushville and burns the last of his ring charge levitating up to spot the cars gathered around the American Legion post.
59:47 --> 59:59 [UNKNOWN]: He heads over to the post and goes through a magnitometer in the entrance there and we catch a glimpse of the alien device, blinking you'll miss it, and he sort of stumbles into the middle of an all-town meeting.
01:00:00 --> 01:00:09 [UNKNOWN]: Billy then cytles in and forms him that the pending charges have been dropped and then how excuses himself to take a phone call from John.
01:00:11 --> 01:00:19 [UNKNOWN]: All right, time on our trope of the detective going back to the scene of the crime and trying to take in all of the details.
01:00:19 --> 01:00:20 [UNKNOWN]: What did you make of this?
01:00:21 --> 01:00:22 [UNKNOWN]: what a guy how it's.
01:00:25 --> 01:00:29 [UNKNOWN]: He just walks in and he's like, uh, I'll talk about me.
01:00:30 --> 01:00:31 [UNKNOWN]: He's like, talking about me.
01:00:31 --> 01:00:33 [UNKNOWN]: You know, I'm here.
01:00:33 --> 01:00:33 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
01:00:34 --> 01:00:34 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
01:00:34 --> 01:00:35 [UNKNOWN]: I want to keep talking about me.
01:00:35 --> 01:00:37 [UNKNOWN]: Well, let me hear what you're got to say.
01:00:38 --> 01:00:43 [UNKNOWN]: And that was his whole thing that he just doesn't care.
01:00:44 --> 01:00:44 [UNKNOWN]: You know what I mean?
01:00:44 --> 01:00:50 [UNKNOWN]: He works into the room and he automatically wants to have command of the room.
01:00:50 --> 01:00:55 [UNKNOWN]: But he wants all eyes on him and he's going to do whatever it takes to get that attention.
01:00:57 --> 01:00:59 [UNKNOWN]: And you know him.
01:01:00 --> 01:01:16 [UNKNOWN]: the back and forth between him and sheriff carry it's just like one of the highlights so far I think and I keep going they just get rolling I love their dynamic the way that they bounce you know off of each other I think it's really fun and I and you get to see you know
01:01:18 --> 01:01:43 [UNKNOWN]: how being a not nice you know he's not he's beyond prickly he's just not nice and you're wondering if he's not nice because this is just him or is he not nice because of again like I alluded to earlier is he not nice because of
01:01:44 --> 01:01:47 [UNKNOWN]: what he's gone through over the last 30 years, right.
01:01:48 --> 01:01:54 [UNKNOWN]: Like, did he start off being not nice or did this job grind into this?
01:01:56 --> 01:01:59 [UNKNOWN]: And it's an interesting question for me to think about as we go throughout the season.
01:02:00 --> 01:02:02 [UNKNOWN]: And we have a that
01:02:05 --> 01:02:20 [UNKNOWN]: of who he was sort of a version of him anyway, let's say, because it's not him, it's a hologram version of him from 10 years ago, but at least the it doesn't feel like he had those sharp corners.
01:02:22 --> 01:02:26 [UNKNOWN]: to his personality, back that.
01:02:26 --> 01:02:28 [UNKNOWN]: You may be salty, but he wasn't.
01:02:28 --> 01:02:29 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
01:02:29 --> 01:02:40 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, more fun, like less of, you know, yeah, just seeing not as serious.
01:02:40 --> 01:02:44 [UNKNOWN]: Well, here, let me ask you this question.
01:02:46 --> 01:02:49 [UNKNOWN]: When you have somebody like a senestro,
01:02:51 --> 01:02:57 [UNKNOWN]: we learn about this episode and we learn about the broad contours of their relationship.
01:02:59 --> 01:03:03 [UNKNOWN]: And he's been dealing with green lantern high command for however many years.
01:03:05 --> 01:03:13 [UNKNOWN]: He's probably not unlike certain queen we know from a certain other television show,
01:03:16 --> 01:03:31 [UNKNOWN]: It's probably the case that he's had to do stuff that has affected him really profoundly and his sense of the world and his sense of himself and the world.
01:03:33 --> 01:03:42 [UNKNOWN]: And, you know, hopefully we're gonna learn more about the celestial relationship and what came before and who were they to each other.
01:03:44 --> 01:04:00 [UNKNOWN]: But I would guess that, that Hal has had to do some things as an intergalactic space cop that really has have affected his outlook on life and where he sees himself in that.
01:04:02 --> 01:04:06 [UNKNOWN]: I think I would agree and add to it, him being the first human.
01:04:07 --> 01:04:08 [UNKNOWN]: Like point.
01:04:08 --> 01:04:11 [UNKNOWN]: What has that done to him?
01:04:12 --> 01:04:12 [UNKNOWN]: Right.
01:04:12 --> 01:04:20 [UNKNOWN]: The barriers and the fights that he's had to overcome being the first human lantern.
01:04:21 --> 01:04:24 [UNKNOWN]: You know, was there resistance to him even having the ring?
01:04:24 --> 01:04:25 [UNKNOWN]: You know what I mean?
01:04:26 --> 01:04:30 [UNKNOWN]: How welcoming were the guardians to this development?
01:04:31 --> 01:04:38 [UNKNOWN]: how you know forthcoming worthy with information sharing with him.
01:04:40 --> 01:04:47 [UNKNOWN]: So there's a lot of layers that we don't know about how right now, but to just simply know that.
01:04:49 --> 01:04:54 [UNKNOWN]: He's not asked just for the sake of being an ass.
01:04:54 --> 01:04:57 [UNKNOWN]: That's what I want us just to make clear.
01:04:57 --> 01:05:10 [UNKNOWN]: And let's flip it from the point of view of the Green Lantern Core to the fact that as a human being, he has to figure out who he is to humanity.
01:05:12 --> 01:05:14 [UNKNOWN]: Right, he wanted to see what's the line.
01:05:14 --> 01:05:19 [UNKNOWN]: He said, oh, this guy wanted, you know, I did this, you know, this guy, he wanted to give me a house.
01:05:19 --> 01:05:22 [UNKNOWN]: So I decided to stop amasculating him.
01:05:23 --> 01:05:24 [UNKNOWN]: I can't tell if it's child.
01:05:24 --> 01:05:26 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, and just accept the house.
01:05:27 --> 01:05:29 [UNKNOWN]: And so now I live in this ginormous mansion.
01:05:30 --> 01:05:32 [UNKNOWN]: That's empty and whatnot.
01:05:32 --> 01:05:40 [UNKNOWN]: Who is he to humanity, to a planet of however many cultures and languages that we speak.
01:05:42 --> 01:05:48 [UNKNOWN]: the fact that if you want to go get a, you know, stop at a nice taco stand or something like that.
01:05:48 --> 01:05:53 [UNKNOWN]: He's got a spend 15, 20 minutes of his time taking how many selfies.
01:05:53 --> 01:05:53 [UNKNOWN]: Right.
01:05:55 --> 01:06:01 [UNKNOWN]: before he can even get to order, and then everybody's just giving him stuff for free on the house, right?
01:06:01 --> 01:06:02 [UNKNOWN]: So that's got a mess with his head.
01:06:02 --> 01:06:03 [UNKNOWN]: That's awesome.
01:06:04 --> 01:06:14 [UNKNOWN]: And also to that end when he first meets Sharon Carrian, they're arguing about who has jurisdiction, right?
01:06:14 --> 01:06:19 [UNKNOWN]: Like, what type of guard rails or, you know, he has
01:06:20 --> 01:06:36 [UNKNOWN]: the earthly earth governments put on him like you can do this but you can't do that whereas he's answering to the people on earth and he's answering to the guardians and you know for 30 years
01:06:38 --> 01:06:50 [UNKNOWN]: It's got to build up, it's got to build up, so it'll be interesting to see if we get to see more of how and why he is the way that he is currently, you know?
01:06:52 --> 01:07:19 [UNKNOWN]: uh... so uh... starting off the scene time honored like i was saying before time honored uh... trope of the detective show going to the crime scene absorbing taking it all in where you you know i don't think you and i have ever have we ever talked how much have we talked about the wire you and i not a lot not a lot and i i believe you're pro the wire um... yeah
01:07:20 --> 01:07:22 [UNKNOWN]: You're not negative to a wire.
01:07:22 --> 01:07:24 [UNKNOWN]: I don't want to make assumptions about people.
01:07:24 --> 01:07:26 [UNKNOWN]: I don't want to make assumptions about me, all right?
01:07:26 --> 01:07:27 [UNKNOWN]: It's okay.
01:07:27 --> 01:07:29 [UNKNOWN]: I know you have strong toes.
01:07:29 --> 01:07:29 [UNKNOWN]: Yes.
01:07:30 --> 01:07:33 [UNKNOWN]: You know, because now I'm definitely, you know, pro-rient.
01:07:33 --> 01:07:41 [UNKNOWN]: So there's one of my favorite crime scene investigation scenes are the two main characters going in to the,
01:07:47 --> 01:07:50 [UNKNOWN]: with a refrigerator door and the window, and they're trying to, do you remember that?
01:07:51 --> 01:07:55 [UNKNOWN]: Guys, now remember the explinives leading.
01:07:55 --> 01:08:01 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, and that's all they say for like five minutes is they're like trying to trace your path and pull it and stuff like that.
01:08:01 --> 01:08:08 [UNKNOWN]: So yeah, I always think of that's my, that's a baseline scene.
01:08:08 --> 01:08:13 [UNKNOWN]: If anybody's curious, I'm sure YouTube should somebody is clipped it on YouTube.
01:08:15 --> 01:08:17 [UNKNOWN]: the absolute classic scene.
01:08:18 --> 01:08:29 [UNKNOWN]: But I don't think that the grill of a Toyota Camry these days is ferrous metal, so why is he ripping the bumper off of that thing?
01:08:29 --> 01:08:31 [UNKNOWN]: That thing is like fiberglass and plastic.
01:08:31 --> 01:08:34 [UNKNOWN]: That is not the tire iron that he pulled.
01:08:34 --> 01:08:36 [UNKNOWN]: That would have been sufficient to set off the magnetometer.
01:08:37 --> 01:08:39 [UNKNOWN]: So I don't know what that was all about.
01:08:40 --> 01:08:41 [UNKNOWN]: But we do see
01:08:44 --> 01:08:51 [UNKNOWN]: It is there, obviously we get a flash of it later, but it's there in the American Legion scene.
01:08:51 --> 01:09:05 [UNKNOWN]: I really like, I'm trying to remember who posted it, but I saw someone post on one of the platforms threads or something like that called Blue Sky.
01:09:06 --> 01:09:08 [UNKNOWN]: And they said that,
01:09:09 --> 01:09:13 [UNKNOWN]: in the super friends, like Cartoon.
01:09:13 --> 01:09:15 [UNKNOWN]: There was the Legion of Doom?
01:09:15 --> 01:09:15 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
01:09:16 --> 01:09:26 [UNKNOWN]: and that the building, the American legion building that he was then looked remarkably, like that cartoon of building from the legion of doom.
01:09:26 --> 01:09:31 [UNKNOWN]: And then I went back to look at it and I was like, oh wow, that's practically a great poll.
01:09:32 --> 01:09:42 [UNKNOWN]: So I don't know, I don't think anything is unintentionally sure because the shot was here and looking directly at that and on the building it says legion of, I forgot what I was saying.
01:09:42 --> 01:09:44 [UNKNOWN]: It just is legion, I looked at it
01:09:47 --> 01:09:48 [UNKNOWN]: why I'm C.A.
01:09:48 --> 01:09:53 [UNKNOWN]: American, you know, yeah, well, was an it's an easy and it says I believe it just says Legion.
01:09:53 --> 01:09:57 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, so that's shot definitely looks like the, that's great.
01:09:57 --> 01:09:59 [UNKNOWN]: The headquarters for the Legion of Doom.
01:10:00 --> 01:10:01 [UNKNOWN]: Deep in the cartoon.
01:10:01 --> 01:10:02 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, that's crazy.
01:10:03 --> 01:10:03 [UNKNOWN]: Very good.
01:10:03 --> 01:10:03 [UNKNOWN]: Very good.
01:10:04 --> 01:10:17 [UNKNOWN]: And then just the funnyness of him bumping everybody down the row and then when Billy shows up, they got a bump again, you know, and then they're chitchatting, like, the lovely, too.
01:10:17 --> 01:10:18 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, he doesn't care.
01:10:18 --> 01:10:21 [UNKNOWN]: He's just like, I'm not nor in my voice.
01:10:22 --> 01:10:24 [UNKNOWN]: What does he say to you like, uh, you're just me?
01:10:25 --> 01:10:27 [UNKNOWN]: I need a, I need a few seconds of your time.
01:10:27 --> 01:10:30 [UNKNOWN]: And she's like, that's like, you're pretty much used at all.
01:10:32 --> 01:10:32 [UNKNOWN]: So good.
01:10:32 --> 01:10:33 [UNKNOWN]: So good.
01:10:34 --> 01:10:50 [UNKNOWN]: Um, and then there, again, I'm not sure, I can't remember all that was said, but he and Billy have quite a conversation and he does sort of let Billy into some of his thinking about like what he's doing with the case.
01:10:50 --> 01:10:56 [UNKNOWN]: I'm not sure what to make of it all, but then that also calls into question like, who is Billy?
01:10:56 --> 01:11:01 [UNKNOWN]: And later we learn that Sheriff Kerry says that she has an unsmooth
01:11:02 --> 01:11:07 [UNKNOWN]: marriage, and what is she really doing is the sheriff in this town.
01:11:07 --> 01:11:16 [UNKNOWN]: So, you know, there's there's some question mark clouds hanging over Billy, and what he's really up to is he really is innocent as he is.
01:11:16 --> 01:11:19 [UNKNOWN]: And I'm not saying he's, I'm not putting any internet points that he's the man hunter.
01:11:21 --> 01:11:27 [UNKNOWN]: I'm just saying how deep is he down the rabbit hole of the Macon family business?
01:11:32 --> 01:11:32 [UNKNOWN]: Anything else?
01:11:33 --> 01:11:33 [UNKNOWN]: No, no.
01:11:34 --> 01:11:41 [UNKNOWN]: I just thought this was a great showing of how just, you know, wanting to be the center of attention.
01:11:41 --> 01:11:44 [UNKNOWN]: They can help themselves, but to be the center of attention.
01:11:45 --> 01:11:46 [UNKNOWN]: All right.
01:11:46 --> 01:11:54 [UNKNOWN]: Of lanterns and bodies, over the phone, how talks John through finding his house key and where to find the lantern in the closet.
01:11:54 --> 01:12:00 [UNKNOWN]: John finds how's green lanterns suit and the box where the lantern is kept.
01:12:00 --> 01:12:04 [UNKNOWN]: Turns out the box is a voice-activated safe with its own pocket dimension.
01:12:05 --> 01:12:10 [UNKNOWN]: John is able to retrieve the lantern while John feeds Earl.
01:12:10 --> 01:12:12 [UNKNOWN]: How collects the alien bodies from the morgue.
01:12:13 --> 01:12:21 [UNKNOWN]: drives them to the football stadium and discovers that the magnetometers are actually alien detectors disguised as metal detectors.
01:12:22 --> 01:12:26 [UNKNOWN]: So I had a big lore question here about Mogo, but I think we've already covered that.
01:12:26 --> 01:12:31 [UNKNOWN]: So that's a, what did you think of that as a password code to open the the safe?
01:12:32 --> 01:12:33 [UNKNOWN]: That was great.
01:12:34 --> 01:12:34 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
01:12:35 --> 01:12:36 [UNKNOWN]: I thought it was great.
01:12:36 --> 01:12:43 [UNKNOWN]: Like you said, you don't they're not hitting you over the head with these things and they're just adding them in into the story and it feels natural.
01:12:44 --> 01:12:46 [UNKNOWN]: Why wouldn't that be the password?
01:12:46 --> 01:12:47 [UNKNOWN]: Who else is going to know about this?
01:12:48 --> 01:12:48 [UNKNOWN]: On Earth.
01:12:48 --> 01:12:49 [UNKNOWN]: Right.
01:12:49 --> 01:12:50 [UNKNOWN]: No one.
01:12:50 --> 01:12:50 [UNKNOWN]: Right.
01:12:52 --> 01:12:55 [UNKNOWN]: Did you notice that the bird flew into the pocket dimension?
01:12:55 --> 01:12:56 [UNKNOWN]: I did.
01:12:56 --> 01:12:58 [UNKNOWN]: And it was flying around into there.
01:12:58 --> 01:12:59 [UNKNOWN]: And there.
01:12:59 --> 01:12:59 [UNKNOWN]: I did.
01:12:59 --> 01:13:00 [UNKNOWN]: And I was like,
01:13:01 --> 01:13:01 [UNKNOWN]: Okay.
01:13:02 --> 01:13:06 [UNKNOWN]: But again, this is what we spoke about earlier.
01:13:06 --> 01:13:13 [UNKNOWN]: When I first said that how not how that John isn't a meta human, right?
01:13:13 --> 01:13:14 [UNKNOWN]: Those are superpowers.
01:13:15 --> 01:13:26 [UNKNOWN]: But then when we're talking about the construct that he has, we know the ring is without power, but still the construct exists.
01:13:29 --> 01:13:40 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, when I flew into, and I didn't really pay attention to the bird, but when he's in the house, when he's in that scene is when I started to really pay attention to the bird.
01:13:42 --> 01:13:48 [UNKNOWN]: Because I had totally like, you know, you're not focusing on it, but then I started to focus on it.
01:13:49 --> 01:13:50 [UNKNOWN]: But wait a minute, the bird's still here.
01:13:51 --> 01:13:52 [UNKNOWN]: Like he flew with the bird.
01:13:53 --> 01:13:53 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
01:13:53 --> 01:13:54 [UNKNOWN]: And the bird's still here.
01:13:54 --> 01:13:54 [UNKNOWN]: Right.
01:13:54 --> 01:13:56 [UNKNOWN]: How do you get your TSA?
01:13:56 --> 01:13:56 [UNKNOWN]: Right.
01:13:56 --> 01:13:57 [UNKNOWN]: You know, I didn't even know that.
01:13:57 --> 01:13:58 [UNKNOWN]: That caught me.
01:13:58 --> 01:14:00 [UNKNOWN]: It was just like the bird is still here.
01:14:00 --> 01:14:02 [UNKNOWN]: Like, what the fuck is going on here?
01:14:02 --> 01:14:04 [UNKNOWN]: How can it be possible that the bird is still here?
01:14:05 --> 01:14:06 [UNKNOWN]: So far away from the ring.
01:14:07 --> 01:14:10 [UNKNOWN]: Do you think it's so far away from the ring, but when I know the ring doesn't have power?
01:14:11 --> 01:14:11 [UNKNOWN]: Right.
01:14:12 --> 01:14:16 [UNKNOWN]: The ring is retrieving the battery.
01:14:16 --> 01:14:17 [UNKNOWN]: Because the ring is dead.
01:14:17 --> 01:14:18 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
01:14:22 --> 01:14:32 [UNKNOWN]: I love that it's I love that this show is like blowing the minds of the comic book community and in the in the in the best possible ways like oh
01:14:33 --> 01:14:42 [UNKNOWN]: What they're putting down is really cool, and we comment book people are grooving on it, because the rest of us non-comic book folks are like, this is cool, all right?
01:14:42 --> 01:14:52 [UNKNOWN]: Right, and it is really cool to think about what does that mean for not only John, but what does that mean for the wider DCU?
01:14:53 --> 01:14:57 [UNKNOWN]: Mm, right, because we'll get it.
01:14:59 --> 01:14:59 [UNKNOWN]: When I think about the,
01:15:02 --> 01:15:04 [UNKNOWN]: ending of episode 1, right?
01:15:05 --> 01:15:06 [UNKNOWN]: Now we're talking about this bird.
01:15:06 --> 01:15:08 [UNKNOWN]: I got the bird on my mind now.
01:15:08 --> 01:15:08 [UNKNOWN]: I'm sorry.
01:15:08 --> 01:15:11 [UNKNOWN]: I don't think about the ending of episode 1.
01:15:11 --> 01:15:19 [UNKNOWN]: When John looks down and he examines house finger and we see there's no ring on John's finger.
01:15:19 --> 01:15:21 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, and there's no ring on house finger.
01:15:23 --> 01:15:24 [UNKNOWN]: Does that matter?
01:15:27 --> 01:15:31 [UNKNOWN]: I didn't even put that together until now.
01:15:31 --> 01:15:33 [UNKNOWN]: Like the greatest million asked questions.
01:15:33 --> 01:15:36 [UNKNOWN]: Does John need the right how many years later?
01:15:36 --> 01:15:36 [UNKNOWN]: 10.
01:15:36 --> 01:15:37 [UNKNOWN]: 10.
01:15:37 --> 01:15:37 [UNKNOWN]: 10.
01:15:38 --> 01:15:39 [UNKNOWN]: Just John need the ring.
01:15:40 --> 01:15:47 [UNKNOWN]: And not only does that matter, my man, my man, John Stuart now, 10 years prior, he's clean-saving.
01:15:49 --> 01:15:55 [UNKNOWN]: Now, I'm going to explain the go-tee, like we here, like, you know what I'm saying?
01:15:55 --> 01:16:02 [UNKNOWN]: I know I had conversations with my friends, many times, like y'all can't trust some, like man ain't got no facial hair, you know what I'm saying?
01:16:05 --> 01:16:13 [UNKNOWN]: So y'all, I'm like y'all, y'all can't do with the go-tee, and now, not only did he come through with the go-tee, now I'm seeing that.
01:16:14 --> 01:16:21 [UNKNOWN]: He's this construct that he's created, it's still around even though we know the ring is depoured.
01:16:22 --> 01:16:25 [UNKNOWN]: Like, I need to understand this.
01:16:27 --> 01:16:27 [UNKNOWN]: Sweet.
01:16:28 --> 01:16:28 [UNKNOWN]: I love it.
01:16:28 --> 01:16:29 [UNKNOWN]: It's okay.
01:16:29 --> 01:16:33 [UNKNOWN]: And the first time I thought about that was in this scene when we see the bird is still here.
01:16:33 --> 01:16:34 [UNKNOWN]: Right.
01:16:36 --> 01:16:56 [UNKNOWN]: I love the whole thing around the suit and he ends up bringing it obviously, I love the joke about, you know, figure out how to, how to, you know, use the bathroom when you're wearing one of these crazy superhero costumes like, yeah, that's a, you know, I, I get that that's a real concern comfort right is the suit comfortable to wear for a long periods of time.
01:16:57 --> 01:17:00 [UNKNOWN]: I love that that scene when he's holding it up to the mirror.
01:17:05 --> 01:17:06 [UNKNOWN]: 100%, right?
01:17:06 --> 01:17:17 [UNKNOWN]: He's like, how is this suit going to which then when we flash forward back to episode one and he's got his go T and he's got no ring
01:17:20 --> 01:17:27 [UNKNOWN]: that makes me even think even more, you know, here he is, sporting the suit in the mirror, like how would I look in this?
01:17:27 --> 01:17:29 [UNKNOWN]: It's like sitting on the throne, right?
01:17:29 --> 01:17:34 [UNKNOWN]: Are you gonna go sit up on the iron throne and kick your feet up there and see what it feels like?
01:17:34 --> 01:17:38 [UNKNOWN]: You know, or Ulf, you know, kick him back at Dragonstone in the Queens chair?
01:17:40 --> 01:18:02 [UNKNOWN]: you know you want to try it on you want to see how it looks and so here he is he's he's he's checking it out but who is he in ten years at the end of episode one right you just added a whole other dimension to him looking at himself in the suit in the mirror yeah yeah you know and I don't know man I just think that the story so far
01:18:04 --> 01:18:06 [UNKNOWN]: They're setting up a lot of, I got a lot of questions.
01:18:08 --> 01:18:10 [UNKNOWN]: And I don't have questions around what they're doing.
01:18:11 --> 01:18:13 [UNKNOWN]: Like, oh, no, why are they doing this?
01:18:13 --> 01:18:16 [UNKNOWN]: You know, that's not the sort of questioning that I'm questioning.
01:18:16 --> 01:18:19 [UNKNOWN]: It's like, oh, I wonder why they're doing this.
01:18:20 --> 01:18:22 [UNKNOWN]: You know what is this thing?
01:18:22 --> 01:18:23 [UNKNOWN]: How is it worth?
01:18:23 --> 01:18:24 [UNKNOWN]: How's it going to play out?
01:18:24 --> 01:18:26 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, well, they're characters could react to this.
01:18:26 --> 01:18:27 [UNKNOWN]: And again,
01:18:29 --> 01:18:33 [UNKNOWN]: folks adaptations that people adapt the stories as long as they make good stories.
01:18:34 --> 01:18:34 [UNKNOWN]: Right.
01:18:34 --> 01:18:37 [UNKNOWN]: And I think this is headed in that direction that they're making a good story.
01:18:37 --> 01:18:44 [UNKNOWN]: So if there are changes to the lore, I welcome it if the story's good.
01:18:44 --> 01:18:45 [UNKNOWN]: It could be right.
01:18:45 --> 01:18:46 [UNKNOWN]: It's long as it's good.
01:18:46 --> 01:18:50 [UNKNOWN]: Is the lantern look rather ordinary in some ways?
01:18:51 --> 01:18:51 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
01:18:51 --> 01:18:51 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
01:18:51 --> 01:18:52 [UNKNOWN]: It did.
01:18:53 --> 01:18:56 [UNKNOWN]: nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing to say about it.
01:18:56 --> 01:18:58 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, nothing fancy about it.
01:18:58 --> 01:18:59 [UNKNOWN]: I do well.
01:19:00 --> 01:19:07 [UNKNOWN]: Let's maybe save Lantern lore for future episodes, if Lantern itself comes more into play.
01:19:08 --> 01:19:09 [UNKNOWN]: Beyond, it just being a battery.
01:19:09 --> 01:19:11 [UNKNOWN]: Like, what do we know about how they work?
01:19:11 --> 01:19:12 [UNKNOWN]: I said, let's see that.
01:19:12 --> 01:19:13 [UNKNOWN]: Oh, all right.
01:19:13 --> 01:19:21 [UNKNOWN]: Right, let's say that for another episode when assuming that we're going to get more Lantern stuff, you know, happening on screen.
01:19:22 --> 01:19:25 [UNKNOWN]: Uh, my other question, though, is WTF is Earl.
01:19:27 --> 01:19:29 [UNKNOWN]: I don't know, I think it's a show construction.
01:19:29 --> 01:19:30 [UNKNOWN]: Okay.
01:19:30 --> 01:19:32 [UNKNOWN]: I don't think there's no arrow.
01:19:32 --> 01:19:34 [UNKNOWN]: I can't remember the arrow in Greenland to ignore.
01:19:34 --> 01:19:35 [UNKNOWN]: Okay.
01:19:35 --> 01:19:41 [UNKNOWN]: I might be wrong, anybody who can at me about that, about how it's arrow, but I can't recall that.
01:19:42 --> 01:19:43 [UNKNOWN]: Carden ever is planned.
01:19:44 --> 01:20:11 [UNKNOWN]: uh... hungry i love how john just assumes that the plant is kind of understanding what he's saying he just starts talking to it hey girl i'm john you don't let it go do uh... you know that's so no fear man can't show it he had no fear even when Earl gobbled up the whole box of food he was like dang didn't we use hungry but i'm not the door and i'm going to talk to you and i'm going to feed you and right
01:20:12 --> 01:20:14 [UNKNOWN]: I can't hear to do something and I'm going to do it.
01:20:15 --> 01:20:19 [UNKNOWN]: That's great, which is, again, goes into the character construction.
01:20:19 --> 01:20:20 [UNKNOWN]: Exactly.
01:20:20 --> 01:20:24 [UNKNOWN]: For John John, which I love that they separated them.
01:20:25 --> 01:20:28 [UNKNOWN]: They split the party and we each get to spend time.
01:20:28 --> 01:20:35 [UNKNOWN]: We get to spend the time with each of them independently of each other, so we're not stuck in the buddy cop routine.
01:20:36 --> 01:20:38 [UNKNOWN]: But we get to see how John operates independent.
01:20:38 --> 01:20:41 [UNKNOWN]: We get to see how how how operates independent.
01:20:42 --> 01:20:48 [UNKNOWN]: And it's like when he walks into the green house, and he sees Earl, because he's now expecting that.
01:20:48 --> 01:20:51 [UNKNOWN]: Right, he goes, he goes something like, I think he says how.
01:20:51 --> 01:20:53 [UNKNOWN]: Like he does this guy.
01:20:53 --> 01:20:55 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, like basically like this guy.
01:20:55 --> 01:20:58 [UNKNOWN]: Like, you couldn't tell me you had a fucking alien plant.
01:20:58 --> 01:21:02 [UNKNOWN]: You got me thinking it's a dog, would you over here, a whole alien in your crib?
01:21:02 --> 01:21:02 [UNKNOWN]: Right.
01:21:03 --> 01:21:04 [UNKNOWN]: Why can't you tell me that?
01:21:04 --> 01:21:06 [UNKNOWN]: Why are you trying to surprise me with this bullshit?
01:21:06 --> 01:21:07 [UNKNOWN]: You know what I'm saying?
01:21:08 --> 01:21:12 [UNKNOWN]: Like, he's like, oh yeah, uh, Earl Spoon's, you know, you know, you know, just like,
01:21:12 --> 01:21:17 [UNKNOWN]: You're going to tell me you're going to tell me it's an alien, carnivorous man eating plant, bro.
01:21:17 --> 01:21:19 [UNKNOWN]: Don't get too close when you feel the Earl.
01:21:19 --> 01:21:20 [UNKNOWN]: He gets a little aggressive.
01:21:20 --> 01:21:23 [UNKNOWN]: He won't hurt you, but you know, you might get a little slight.
01:21:23 --> 01:21:29 [UNKNOWN]: But I'm glad that they included that little, that little shrug from John like this guy.
01:21:29 --> 01:21:30 [UNKNOWN]: You know what I mean?
01:21:30 --> 01:21:32 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, this guy.
01:21:33 --> 01:21:34 [UNKNOWN]: All right, cool.
01:21:34 --> 01:21:36 [UNKNOWN]: Well, kidnapped is our next scene.
01:21:36 --> 01:21:39 [UNKNOWN]: John's kidnapped outside of Hals House.
01:21:39 --> 01:21:44 [UNKNOWN]: He fights his way free, but gets knocked out by a skinning van on the freeway.
01:21:47 --> 01:21:51 [UNKNOWN]: The right away, well, not right away.
01:21:52 --> 01:21:54 [UNKNOWN]: When he wakes up after getting zapped,
01:21:57 --> 01:21:59 [UNKNOWN]: the guy, he's like, where's my bird, right?
01:21:59 --> 01:22:01 [UNKNOWN]: You're like, oh, the bird, love the bird, right?
01:22:01 --> 01:22:03 [UNKNOWN]: And the dude's holding the bird.
01:22:03 --> 01:22:13 [UNKNOWN]: And it was at that moment when I was thinking in myself, these aren't just normal ordinary humans of some secret agency or militia or something like that.
01:22:13 --> 01:22:14 [UNKNOWN]: Oh.
01:22:14 --> 01:22:21 [UNKNOWN]: If this guy is not freaked out by a green bird flying around, but he's happily holding it and whatever.
01:22:22 --> 01:22:32 [UNKNOWN]: These guys are not ordinary and then when they're in the fight and he's throwing them around in the van, you're like, Oh, yeah, these guys got super straight.
01:22:32 --> 01:22:37 [UNKNOWN]: There's more going on here than the right expect, right?
01:22:37 --> 01:22:50 [UNKNOWN]: And then we just have a really cool fight chase scene running to more sort of minion black style, you know, Will Smith, you know, run around being smart and fighting kind of thing.
01:22:50 --> 01:22:51 [UNKNOWN]: I don't know,
01:22:52 --> 01:22:58 [UNKNOWN]: This was like the, you know, taste of action that I needed for this episode to like, you know, spice things up.
01:22:59 --> 01:23:12 [UNKNOWN]: And I'm so happy with the way that they did the scene and that John Buzz clearly outclass, right, as far from a strength aspect.
01:23:12 --> 01:23:13 [UNKNOWN]: We're from a fighting aspect.
01:23:15 --> 01:23:18 [UNKNOWN]: Oh, my God, what's kicking half?
01:23:18 --> 01:23:18 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
01:23:18 --> 01:23:23 [UNKNOWN]: Like, if they had been on similar strength levels, if these had just been in their normal human being.
01:23:23 --> 01:23:23 [UNKNOWN]: Yes.
01:23:24 --> 01:23:24 [UNKNOWN]: Yes.
01:23:24 --> 01:23:25 [UNKNOWN]: Then John wins.
01:23:26 --> 01:23:26 [UNKNOWN]: Right.
01:23:26 --> 01:23:26 [UNKNOWN]: He wins.
01:23:27 --> 01:23:30 [UNKNOWN]: But he knows he can't, right?
01:23:30 --> 01:23:35 [UNKNOWN]: Because once that dude threw him up on the roof, he was like, he knew we got to do something else.
01:23:35 --> 01:23:39 [UNKNOWN]: He looked like we, and then he took the risk of, you know, just.
01:23:40 --> 01:23:51 [UNKNOWN]: out the back and get his far away from these guys as I get as far as way as I can, which is again, tactical and he's thinking, and all the while he's doing that, the bird is still there.
01:23:51 --> 01:23:55 [UNKNOWN]: And the flying, the birds flying following him, Dino through and everything.
01:23:55 --> 01:23:55 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
01:23:56 --> 01:23:57 [UNKNOWN]: And he's got a mission, right?
01:23:58 --> 01:23:59 [UNKNOWN]: Lantern bird.
01:24:00 --> 01:24:00 [UNKNOWN]: Yep.
01:24:01 --> 01:24:03 [UNKNOWN]: That's it, and that he stuck the mission.
01:24:03 --> 01:24:04 [UNKNOWN]: He didn't screw around.
01:24:05 --> 01:24:08 [UNKNOWN]: He didn't like, oh, I'm going to get all clever and try and take these guys out or anything like that.
01:24:08 --> 01:24:10 [UNKNOWN]: He's like, I just got to go.
01:24:10 --> 01:24:16 [UNKNOWN]: One thing I liked about this scene as well was when how told them that the key is under the rock.
01:24:16 --> 01:24:17 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
01:24:17 --> 01:24:25 [UNKNOWN]: And this is a very superman-y thing because when Superman and some comics and cartoons and stuff like that,
01:24:25 --> 01:24:27 [UNKNOWN]: Superman keeps the rock.
01:24:27 --> 01:24:32 [UNKNOWN]: It keeps his key for the fortress of solitude, underneath a rock that only he can lift up.
01:24:33 --> 01:24:34 [UNKNOWN]: Oh, oh.
01:24:34 --> 01:24:38 [UNKNOWN]: Guys, so no one, no one on planet Earth could possibly lift this thing.
01:24:39 --> 01:24:41 [UNKNOWN]: So that's why he keeps the key for his fortress.
01:24:41 --> 01:24:44 [UNKNOWN]: And that hell is just like, yeah, it's under the rock.
01:24:45 --> 01:24:48 [UNKNOWN]: Sorry, God, that may be chuckle, that may be chuckle.
01:24:48 --> 01:24:54 [UNKNOWN]: another great deep cut sort of world connecting thing and then it's all about a frown upside down.
01:24:54 --> 01:25:05 [UNKNOWN]: Yes, you know potato, you know, you know, kind of, I guess you get throwing a little bit of everything everywhere all at once kind of thing rock, you know, with the googly eyes, you know, yeah, just fun.
01:25:06 --> 01:25:09 [UNKNOWN]: So yeah, and if you try to kick it, it would probably go pretty far.
01:25:10 --> 01:25:11 [UNKNOWN]: Let's do this.
01:25:11 --> 01:25:18 [UNKNOWN]: Let's take a quick break and then when we come back we will get into the next scene with how and the share.
01:25:29 --> 01:25:32 [UNKNOWN]: And we're back and our next scene.
01:25:32 --> 01:25:33 [UNKNOWN]: License and registration, please.
01:25:33 --> 01:25:41 [UNKNOWN]: How driving around with a car full of dead aliens gets pulled over by Sheriff Kerry, who agrees to escort him to the Macon Ranch.
01:25:41 --> 01:25:42 [UNKNOWN]: Macon, Macon, Macon, and what happened to me?
01:25:42 --> 01:25:54 [UNKNOWN]: Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
01:25:54 --> 01:26:00 [UNKNOWN]: If you and I were driving down the street with a car full of dead bodies in, we got pulled over by the law.
01:26:01 --> 01:26:04 [UNKNOWN]: for one of us is making it, and it ain't me.
01:26:04 --> 01:26:06 [UNKNOWN]: You know what I'm saying?
01:26:06 --> 01:26:07 [UNKNOWN]: This is just be clear.
01:26:09 --> 01:26:13 [UNKNOWN]: One of us is making it the trial, and that person ain't going to be me.
01:26:13 --> 01:26:16 [UNKNOWN]: So that's just the facts.
01:26:16 --> 01:26:18 [UNKNOWN]: A bunch of dead aliens smelling up.
01:26:19 --> 01:26:20 [UNKNOWN]: That's just the fact.
01:26:20 --> 01:26:21 [UNKNOWN]: Dead naked.
01:26:23 --> 01:26:23 [UNKNOWN]: Seat belted.
01:26:23 --> 01:26:24 [UNKNOWN]: Right.
01:26:26 --> 01:26:30 [UNKNOWN]: I believe technically that is being googled.
01:26:31 --> 01:26:32 [UNKNOWN]: Oh man.
01:26:32 --> 01:26:33 [UNKNOWN]: So funny.
01:26:34 --> 01:26:48 [UNKNOWN]: And so the big takeaway from this for me is the fact that chair of carries way, way, way ahead of the game, which is what they want us to take away from this scene, right?
01:26:49 --> 01:26:50 [UNKNOWN]: That she is not
01:26:52 --> 01:27:07 [UNKNOWN]: Uh, she's not a dopey small town sheriff and we can kind of take the Fargo trope of Sheriff Marge Gunderson famously played by Francis McDormand in the movie Fargo.
01:27:08 --> 01:27:18 [UNKNOWN]: But they're, they're, they're, they're, they're, they're starting with that trope, but they're taking her so much further and doing so much more cool stuff with her.
01:27:19 --> 01:27:26 [UNKNOWN]: I just love that she's giving how every bit of sass back that he's giving her.
01:27:26 --> 01:27:27 [UNKNOWN]: Yes.
01:27:28 --> 01:27:32 [UNKNOWN]: And she's as smart and wicked funny and sassy as he can be.
01:27:38 --> 01:27:38 [UNKNOWN]: Right.
01:27:38 --> 01:27:39 [UNKNOWN]: Well, we're going to get to that later.
01:27:39 --> 01:27:41 [UNKNOWN]: Oh, we got a whole thing for that.
01:27:44 --> 01:27:49 [UNKNOWN]: So yeah, the the idea that she knows about the medallion detectors.
01:27:50 --> 01:27:52 [UNKNOWN]: She knows that there's something a larger investigation going on.
01:27:52 --> 01:27:52 [UNKNOWN]: So
01:27:55 --> 01:27:56 [UNKNOWN]: what's really going on with that.
01:27:57 --> 01:27:59 [UNKNOWN]: We're going to have another conversation at the hospital.
01:28:00 --> 01:28:07 [UNKNOWN]: But the other thing that I got from this is the unsmooth marriage, she let slip that there's a unsmooth marriage situation.
01:28:09 --> 01:28:23 [UNKNOWN]: I mean, yeah, that's layers to Sheriff Kerry, that it's slowly being peeled like there's definitely more going on with her and then what we originally thought.
01:28:23 --> 01:28:28 [UNKNOWN]: It's so interesting to see how come to that conclusion as well.
01:28:29 --> 01:28:45 [UNKNOWN]: starting to realize that one she's way more capable than I would have given her credit for um and two that oh she's way more capable than I would have given the credit for it.
01:28:45 --> 01:28:55 [UNKNOWN]: You know to say you can see the wheels turning in and it's head like oh this is the second time where she's shown herself to be you know like at least 10 steps ahead
01:28:56 --> 01:29:19 [UNKNOWN]: of where he's at and that has to buy you some sort of equity and some sort of, you know, respect as far as information sharing, gathering and all that he's going to need in order to solve this mystery because it's obvious there's more going on and he's not the only person who realizes there's more going on here.
01:29:20 --> 01:29:26 [UNKNOWN]: And I think that that hospital scene is going to get a lot into that and that'll be interesting when we get there.
01:29:27 --> 01:29:35 [UNKNOWN]: But first let's take a quick detour to the ranch where they're not taking visitors.
01:29:36 --> 01:29:40 [UNKNOWN]: The gates of the Mac on Ranch, the guards try to turn
01:29:45 --> 01:29:54 [UNKNOWN]: Hal challenges William regarding the technology of the alien detectors William declines to answer how pushes onto the property and is shot.
01:29:55 --> 01:29:57 [UNKNOWN]: by a century sniper.
01:29:58 --> 01:30:03 [UNKNOWN]: In one thing that I noticed over the ranch, there were some words, but they were reversed.
01:30:03 --> 01:30:13 [UNKNOWN]: I actually had to write down the letters in proper order to get it, it's called, it says, study the past.
01:30:14 --> 01:30:17 [UNKNOWN]: And I did the first time when we've seen it in all the shots of the ranch.
01:30:18 --> 01:30:22 [UNKNOWN]: And that goes into some stuff that we're going to talk about with William and his second here.
01:30:25 --> 01:30:34 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, just some, you know, how is, you know, at some point, you got to say, okay, let me chill.
01:30:35 --> 01:30:39 [UNKNOWN]: You know, at some point, you got to say, okay, I don't have the upper hand here.
01:30:39 --> 01:30:45 [UNKNOWN]: Let me, let me, let me back up a little bit, right, because not how, how has no chill.
01:30:45 --> 01:30:52 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, he has no, he has, he has, he's incapable of doing that and he's lucky that it
01:30:55 --> 01:31:03 [UNKNOWN]: And he's lucky that no one else was there with him besides Sheriff Kerry because he would put someone else in danger, right?
01:31:04 --> 01:31:09 [UNKNOWN]: And I think, you know, that no fear thing can be a detriment.
01:31:10 --> 01:31:17 [UNKNOWN]: You know, it can be a hindrance to your safety and the safety of those around you and being a really lantern.
01:31:17 --> 01:31:19 [UNKNOWN]: You have to be able to balance that.
01:31:20 --> 01:31:25 [UNKNOWN]: And you can see in this moment and this scene that he doesn't have a balance on that.
01:31:25 --> 01:31:29 [UNKNOWN]: Because you don't have, you're not protected here.
01:31:30 --> 01:31:32 [UNKNOWN]: You know, your ring is detarched.
01:31:32 --> 01:31:33 [UNKNOWN]: You have no power.
01:31:39 --> 01:31:53 [UNKNOWN]: can't necessarily see right you see the dude drawn the weapon like exactly they already have a line on you and even if you did see them drawing the weapon how fast could you reasonably move to Nagashan there's this
01:31:56 --> 01:32:00 [UNKNOWN]: I won't give away the details, but there's a scene in the trailer that does show how having the very quick reaction time.
01:32:00 --> 01:32:00 [UNKNOWN]: Okay.
01:32:00 --> 01:32:00 [UNKNOWN]: Okay.
01:32:00 --> 01:32:18 [UNKNOWN]: So having that scene in my mind in this scene, I was like, oh, like, it, that teaches me something about it, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that,
01:32:19 --> 01:32:23 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, you can have the ring, but if you don't see it coming, you can't react to it.
01:32:24 --> 01:32:30 [UNKNOWN]: But if he has the ring, he's going to, as soon as they say, there's a, we got a line on you.
01:32:31 --> 01:32:32 [UNKNOWN]: Boom, he's already suited.
01:32:33 --> 01:32:34 [UNKNOWN]: Right.
01:32:34 --> 01:32:35 [UNKNOWN]: You got the bubble on.
01:32:35 --> 01:32:36 [UNKNOWN]: You got the minute on.
01:32:36 --> 01:32:39 [UNKNOWN]: They say that he has his, he has his force field on.
01:32:39 --> 01:32:40 [UNKNOWN]: The minute they say that.
01:32:40 --> 01:32:40 [UNKNOWN]: Right.
01:32:41 --> 01:32:43 [UNKNOWN]: So, yeah.
01:32:43 --> 01:32:55 [UNKNOWN]: So again, it just shows to me that over 30 years and you were calling you, you said this as well, a little bit, a little while ago, and that we don't know what he's had to do.
01:32:57 --> 01:33:04 [UNKNOWN]: over these 30 years, what he's seen, what he's done, over being a space cop, right?
01:33:04 --> 01:33:12 [UNKNOWN]: So in this moment, I really feel like that is coming to pass because we don't know where how has been.
01:33:13 --> 01:33:19 [UNKNOWN]: We don't know the things that he's seen, but what we do know is that he can be reckless.
01:33:20 --> 01:33:20 [UNKNOWN]: Right.
01:33:21 --> 01:33:26 [UNKNOWN]: And does that reckless get you into more trouble more often than not?
01:33:27 --> 01:33:28 [UNKNOWN]: And there's a possibility.
01:33:28 --> 01:33:28 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
01:33:29 --> 01:33:30 [UNKNOWN]: Which is why he likes working.
01:33:30 --> 01:33:32 [UNKNOWN]: I mean, part partly working alone is good.
01:33:33 --> 01:33:33 [UNKNOWN]: Probably.
01:33:34 --> 01:33:34 [UNKNOWN]: Probably.
01:33:35 --> 01:33:37 [UNKNOWN]: Unless you have somebody else wearing another ring.
01:33:37 --> 01:33:38 [UNKNOWN]: Right.
01:33:39 --> 01:33:40 [UNKNOWN]: right deck and even with you.
01:33:41 --> 01:33:44 [UNKNOWN]: And even then, you know, it's not as if you can't die.
01:33:46 --> 01:33:47 [UNKNOWN]: You know, you can't.
01:33:48 --> 01:33:51 [UNKNOWN]: You're not, you know, indestructible just because you're weathering.
01:33:52 --> 01:33:52 [UNKNOWN]: Right.
01:33:52 --> 01:33:52 [UNKNOWN]: Right.
01:33:53 --> 01:33:55 [UNKNOWN]: You're not Thor or somebody.
01:33:55 --> 01:33:56 [UNKNOWN]: You're not a mortal.
01:33:56 --> 01:33:58 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
01:33:58 --> 01:33:59 [UNKNOWN]: All right.
01:33:59 --> 01:34:01 [UNKNOWN]: So let's talk about William a little
01:34:06 --> 01:34:07 [UNKNOWN]: Uh, where's here it is?
01:34:07 --> 01:34:14 [UNKNOWN]: I told you, people who walked this land before me, they got caught flatfooted when the settlers come in and colonize them.
01:34:14 --> 01:34:18 [UNKNOWN]: I'm not about to make the same mistake again.
01:34:18 --> 01:34:30 [UNKNOWN]: I just love how this show is laying down all this conversation around xenophobia, the past.
01:34:33 --> 01:34:57 [UNKNOWN]: gender relationships, racial relationships, and the fact that this guy who's coded for today, this play, you know, to our cultural context now is coded as a militia guy who we would think would be worried about people with more melatonin
01:35:02 --> 01:35:19 [UNKNOWN]: But instead, they transfer it to aliens and he's applying the lessons of the past from the American West and what happened with native communities and colonists colonizers from the European settlers.
01:35:21 --> 01:35:23 [UNKNOWN]: And they just flip that right in there.
01:35:23 --> 01:35:32 [UNKNOWN]: And I just love what it does to playing with our awareness and the way that we need to think about this and engage.
01:35:33 --> 01:35:36 [UNKNOWN]: You could blink, and it could just go right by, or you could go, oh,
01:35:37 --> 01:35:39 [UNKNOWN]: Wait a minute like what's going on?
01:35:39 --> 01:35:39 [UNKNOWN]: This is really weird.
01:35:39 --> 01:35:41 [UNKNOWN]: This is like this weird white guy.
01:35:41 --> 01:35:42 [UNKNOWN]: He's got this big range.
01:35:42 --> 01:35:43 [UNKNOWN]: He's got a big militia.
01:35:44 --> 01:35:52 [UNKNOWN]: They're on Native American territory that he is, you know, claimed for, you know, he's he's got sort of dominion over it.
01:35:52 --> 01:35:58 [UNKNOWN]: But he's taking the lessons of the past of what was done there and applying it at a global scale.
01:35:59 --> 01:36:01 [UNKNOWN]: It's just, it's so interesting.
01:36:01 --> 01:36:05 [UNKNOWN]: And he's thinking species, not skin color,
01:36:06 --> 01:36:08 [UNKNOWN]: Right, so it's just to me so interesting.
01:36:08 --> 01:36:11 [UNKNOWN]: I don't know, did you, yeah, that was this.
01:36:11 --> 01:36:21 [UNKNOWN]: I mean, much this, I love that they're bringing it into the show, like this way of talking about real world things that happened.
01:36:23 --> 01:36:26 [UNKNOWN]: But when he said that, you know, they were quite flatfooted.
01:36:26 --> 01:36:39 [UNKNOWN]: I don't, I don't, you know, for me it was just like, bro, you know, day, the history is not about being quite flatfooted.
01:36:39 --> 01:36:41 [UNKNOWN]: That was him.
01:36:41 --> 01:36:43 [UNKNOWN]: That's like that's not the history.
01:36:45 --> 01:36:46 [UNKNOWN]: We can say they were too welcoming.
01:36:47 --> 01:36:50 [UNKNOWN]: because the indigenous populations were too welcoming.
01:36:53 --> 01:37:01 [UNKNOWN]: And, but he did history of the West and the tribes that were in the Midwest is very different than those of the New England East Coast regions.
01:37:01 --> 01:37:12 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, but I would say that without East Coast, New England, maybe there's a different outcome to the West.
01:37:12 --> 01:37:16 [UNKNOWN]: That would be my rejoin that's like, right, that's
01:37:17 --> 01:37:19 [UNKNOWN]: without what happened on the East Coast.
01:37:19 --> 01:37:24 [UNKNOWN]: I think is expansion in the way that it occurred is even possible.
01:37:24 --> 01:37:26 [UNKNOWN]: A hundred years later, a two hundred years later.
01:37:26 --> 01:37:29 [UNKNOWN]: And I don't have the answer for that, but I feel like no.
01:37:30 --> 01:37:35 [UNKNOWN]: My family and I, my daughter very much like documentaries and these kinds of things.
01:37:35 --> 01:37:39 [UNKNOWN]: And we just watched the Ken Burns on the American Bison, the two-point series on that.
01:37:40 --> 01:37:40 [UNKNOWN]: Fascinating.
01:37:40 --> 01:37:42 [UNKNOWN]: We're like super interesting.
01:37:42 --> 01:37:43 [UNKNOWN]: And you just don't realize
01:37:44 --> 01:37:47 [UNKNOWN]: that, you know, the bison are a hyper object, right?
01:37:47 --> 01:38:01 [UNKNOWN]: They are just this really complex ecological, sociological species that is so iconic and so important in so many different ways and it's a really cool documentary.
01:38:01 --> 01:38:03 [UNKNOWN]: So, recommendations for everyone to go see it.
01:38:04 --> 01:38:06 [UNKNOWN]: But what I thought was interesting
01:38:07 --> 01:38:15 [UNKNOWN]: And I think this relates to the way that William is relating to is the settlers, the colonists who are coming in and pushing into the west.
01:38:17 --> 01:38:32 [UNKNOWN]: There's this repatiousness, there's this hunger, there's this resources, there's this land that we are going to consume and take and it's timber and it's gold and it's bison and it's all of the stuff and we're just like non, non, non, non, giant pack man sort of
01:38:37 --> 01:38:43 [UNKNOWN]: And I'm not flattening Native American communities because they're complex and deep and lots of history and lots of stuff going on.
01:38:44 --> 01:38:48 [UNKNOWN]: But they by and large to be really broad speaking here.
01:38:49 --> 01:38:54 [UNKNOWN]: There was a different relationship to nature in the sense of we're going to use nature.
01:38:54 --> 01:38:55 [UNKNOWN]: We're going to consume it.
01:38:56 --> 01:38:58 [UNKNOWN]: It is it sustains us, but we're not also going to.
01:38:59 --> 01:39:05 [UNKNOWN]: take is every last bit of it as we can in as quick a time frame as we can.
01:39:05 --> 01:39:06 [UNKNOWN]: Right.
01:39:06 --> 01:39:07 [UNKNOWN]: Right.
01:39:07 --> 01:39:08 [UNKNOWN]: There we can, I think.
01:39:08 --> 01:39:09 [UNKNOWN]: So there's this different.
01:39:09 --> 01:39:20 [UNKNOWN]: So if we want to talk about a flat food in it, getting caught, quote unquote, flat food, that's the way that William is perceiving it from his cultural context.
01:39:21 --> 01:39:21 [UNKNOWN]: right?
01:39:21 --> 01:39:24 [UNKNOWN]: No, I think he's not going to be a sucker.
01:39:24 --> 01:39:27 [UNKNOWN]: I'm not going to get suckered like those guys did.
01:39:27 --> 01:39:42 [UNKNOWN]: But he's coming from that same context of being that take her right of like I'm we're taking this because so for him it is getting caught flatfooted because you're not preparing for invasion.
01:39:42 --> 01:39:47 [UNKNOWN]: Even though invasion, no invasion, you don't know what but that's his frame of reference.
01:39:47 --> 01:39:48 [UNKNOWN]: That's his context.
01:39:48 --> 01:39:50 [UNKNOWN]: No, I I totally agree.
01:39:51 --> 01:40:14 [UNKNOWN]: it's we're talking about this so a few weeks ago I was talking to another friend of mine and we were talking about the modern day context of racism in this country and how it plays out and why people are so okay when I say people white people are so okay with the
01:40:15 --> 01:40:19 [UNKNOWN]: Well, for a lot of the tragedies that we see every day, right?
01:40:19 --> 01:40:21 [UNKNOWN]: From ice or whatever it may be.
01:40:22 --> 01:40:35 [UNKNOWN]: And going back to when I was a young man, we always spoke about people not wanting the horrors that were visited upon others to be visited upon themselves.
01:40:35 --> 01:40:41 [UNKNOWN]: So it was a perfectly cool with watching it play out because
01:40:42 --> 01:40:52 [UNKNOWN]: The fear is that if Black ground people become a majority and half power, then the things that we did to them, they will turn around and do to us.
01:40:53 --> 01:40:56 [UNKNOWN]: And I think this is where, this is exactly the point.
01:40:56 --> 01:40:57 [UNKNOWN]: This is William's point of view.
01:40:57 --> 01:40:58 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
01:40:58 --> 01:41:06 [UNKNOWN]: We did these terrible things to these people, not because they were flatfooted just because we are terrible, right?
01:41:06 --> 01:41:07 [UNKNOWN]: The terrible things to people.
01:41:07 --> 01:41:09 [UNKNOWN]: And that's not going to expect further.
01:41:09 --> 01:41:10 [UNKNOWN]: Exactly.
01:41:10 --> 01:41:11 [UNKNOWN]: I'm envisioning.
01:41:11 --> 01:41:12 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
01:41:12 --> 01:41:15 [UNKNOWN]: Something, something other coming.
01:41:16 --> 01:41:29 [UNKNOWN]: And the only way I can frame it in my mind is that they will do to us humanity, what we, what people have done to those who we need of communities here, so I think it's a...
01:41:30 --> 01:41:39 [UNKNOWN]: It's a more nuanced conversation that we need to have about making and his motivations because it's not simply looking off of humanity.
01:41:39 --> 01:41:52 [UNKNOWN]: I think it is self-serving, and it is, you know, ignition on his part, and recognition of what his culture has done to other cultures.
01:41:52 --> 01:41:54 [UNKNOWN]: I think you're, you're,
01:41:55 --> 01:42:04 [UNKNOWN]: doing a better job of illuminating what I was trying to dig at, which is, but at the same time loving what the show runners are doing.
01:42:04 --> 01:42:06 [UNKNOWN]: That's what's happening is into this subject.
01:42:06 --> 01:42:07 [UNKNOWN]: We can have this conversation.
01:42:07 --> 01:42:08 [UNKNOWN]: Exactly.
01:42:09 --> 01:42:12 [UNKNOWN]: In the show called lanterns about space cops.
01:42:13 --> 01:42:16 [UNKNOWN]: And we're, you know, privileged right dude, a lot of money.
01:42:18 --> 01:42:19 [UNKNOWN]: And Coniferous Amy.
01:42:20 --> 01:42:21 [UNKNOWN]: Exactly.
01:42:22 --> 01:42:22 [UNKNOWN]: So we are.
01:42:23 --> 01:42:26 [UNKNOWN]: It's, it's absolutely, uh, perfect.
01:42:27 --> 01:42:30 [UNKNOWN]: Uh, and yeah, I just, I want to see more of this.
01:42:30 --> 01:42:35 [UNKNOWN]: And we're going to have more later on Zoey and, uh, uh, John have a conversation with you.
01:42:35 --> 01:42:35 [UNKNOWN]: Oh, yeah.
01:42:36 --> 01:42:38 [UNKNOWN]: In the, uh, in the cafe.
01:42:39 --> 01:42:43 [UNKNOWN]: I don't know, are you a fan of usual suspect movie?
01:42:43 --> 01:42:49 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, one of the, one of the movies that... Let me watch sober and... Guys, that's Tuesday!
01:42:49 --> 01:42:51 [UNKNOWN]: Guys, that's Thursday!
01:42:55 --> 01:43:08 [UNKNOWN]: I love the fact that they throw, he's throwing all of these little things, which is of course the voice of the show runners and writers, but I love all these little pop culture references that are really good stuff.
01:43:08 --> 01:43:09 [UNKNOWN]: Really situates it well.
01:43:10 --> 01:43:12 [UNKNOWN]: And then I just have to laugh at the
01:43:13 --> 01:43:27 [UNKNOWN]: whole thing of how going to like, oh, you got this marble man stuff going down, but do you know the marble man did the marble or man the self-sufficient frontiers man who was out there doing it on his own.
01:43:28 --> 01:43:29 [UNKNOWN]: Do you ever sign an NDA?
01:43:30 --> 01:43:36 [UNKNOWN]: Because sign an NDA is like real corporate orally not manly mad stuff.
01:43:36 --> 01:43:49 [UNKNOWN]: So I just loved the way that he kind of f's with the whole toxic masculinity, you know, sort of machismo persona that William has.
01:43:49 --> 01:43:50 [UNKNOWN]: Yes, yes.
01:43:50 --> 01:43:51 [UNKNOWN]: Super good stuff.
01:43:52 --> 01:43:53 [UNKNOWN]: All right, man hunters.
01:43:55 --> 01:44:04 [UNKNOWN]: John wakes up in his chapter, and, and, and, and, I guess as it was how we're going to pronounce that, express, yes, yes, and, and.
01:44:05 --> 01:44:18 [UNKNOWN]: Expresses, uh, surprise at the bird construct, and, and explains that he's hunting a man hunter, one of an ancient race of sheep shifting synthetic beings that once devastated his homeworld.
01:44:19 --> 01:44:40 [UNKNOWN]: He forces John to relive that genocide through a memory device and he tells John that tells John that his people have tracked a manhunter to rushville, but they can't get close without big detective detected, and he gives John 48 hours to identify the manhunter, or they will destroy the town.
01:44:41 --> 01:44:44 [UNKNOWN]: Big shout out to Paul Ben Victor, who's playing
01:44:49 --> 01:44:58 [UNKNOWN]: list the other day and I was just scrolling and scrolling and scrolling and scrolling that dude has mad credits listed to him.
01:44:58 --> 01:45:01 [UNKNOWN]: So really fun to see him really, really great character actor.
01:45:02 --> 01:45:06 [UNKNOWN]: What did you think about the whole interrogation scene?
01:45:07 --> 01:45:08 [UNKNOWN]: Oh, this was great.
01:45:08 --> 01:45:11 [UNKNOWN]: This was we get two different interrogations scenes.
01:45:12 --> 01:45:12 [UNKNOWN]: Right.
01:45:13 --> 01:45:13 [UNKNOWN]: Two weeks.
01:45:13 --> 01:45:14 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
01:45:14 --> 01:45:15 [UNKNOWN]: First two episodes.
01:45:17 --> 01:45:24 [UNKNOWN]: the second one with John and Aton when he looks at him and he says, what are you going to do not torture me?
01:45:25 --> 01:45:36 [UNKNOWN]: You know, at no point did the alien being interrogated by how think to themselves that, oh, is how the Green Lantern going to torture me?
01:45:36 --> 01:45:40 [UNKNOWN]: But John's point of reference is these are bad people.
01:45:40 --> 01:45:42 [UNKNOWN]: So bad people are going to bad things.
01:45:43 --> 01:45:47 [UNKNOWN]: And they're going to speak to what he's his lens.
01:45:48 --> 01:45:48 [UNKNOWN]: Right.
01:45:48 --> 01:45:48 [UNKNOWN]: Exactly.
01:45:48 --> 01:45:49 [UNKNOWN]: He's context.
01:45:49 --> 01:45:50 [UNKNOWN]: Yes.
01:45:50 --> 01:45:52 [UNKNOWN]: I can't imagine not being tortured.
01:45:52 --> 01:45:52 [UNKNOWN]: Exactly.
01:45:52 --> 01:45:54 [UNKNOWN]: Somebody who's who's violently captured.
01:45:54 --> 01:45:57 [UNKNOWN]: Who's got me, you know, tied up and asking me questions.
01:45:57 --> 01:46:03 [UNKNOWN]: So the next thing they're going to do is start, you know, trying to break bones and all of that stuff.
01:46:03 --> 01:46:03 [UNKNOWN]: Right.
01:46:06 --> 01:46:18 [UNKNOWN]: The way that they didn't show what happened, right, when they implanted the memories and to John.
01:46:19 --> 01:46:21 [UNKNOWN]: I have a bunch of people.
01:46:21 --> 01:46:22 [UNKNOWN]: Okay, okay, okay.
01:46:22 --> 01:46:24 [UNKNOWN]: No, no, no, go, go, go, go, go.
01:46:24 --> 01:46:26 [UNKNOWN]: So, um, but I love this point.
01:46:26 --> 01:46:27 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, absolutely.
01:46:27 --> 01:46:29 [UNKNOWN]: The way they didn't show it worked.
01:46:31 --> 01:46:42 [UNKNOWN]: we just get to see John's reaction to what's being downloaded into his brain directly and you can see how much sadness and pain in his face.
01:46:43 --> 01:46:46 [UNKNOWN]: This was a great moment for you know, for
01:46:52 --> 01:47:06 [UNKNOWN]: and you just got to feel the pain of these people who are saying that our whole civilization was destroyed and we're here for vengeance, right?
01:47:06 --> 01:47:08 [UNKNOWN]: We're here to get our get back.
01:47:09 --> 01:47:10 [UNKNOWN]: And that is, you know,
01:47:12 --> 01:47:17 [UNKNOWN]: which is what I forget the guy's name, but the guy who goes interrogated last when he could blew him up.
01:47:17 --> 01:47:18 [UNKNOWN]: What do you hear for them?
01:47:18 --> 01:47:19 [UNKNOWN]: Vengeance.
01:47:19 --> 01:47:19 [UNKNOWN]: What else?
01:47:20 --> 01:47:21 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
01:47:21 --> 01:47:22 [UNKNOWN]: What else?
01:47:22 --> 01:47:23 [UNKNOWN]: Close the circle on that.
01:47:24 --> 01:47:27 [UNKNOWN]: And then you see the pain in John's face.
01:47:27 --> 01:47:29 [UNKNOWN]: Just excellent stuff.
01:47:29 --> 01:47:36 [UNKNOWN]: Because I thought they were going to show us as they worked the needle thing, whatever.
01:47:36 --> 01:47:38 [UNKNOWN]: I thought we were going to see it.
01:47:39 --> 01:47:47 [UNKNOWN]: but not seeing it work way more better emotionally for me than having, you know, having to see it.
01:47:48 --> 01:47:49 [UNKNOWN]: Do you remember the,
01:47:50 --> 01:47:56 [UNKNOWN]: torture scene in Andor with Bix and the sound is a dying alien thing.
01:47:57 --> 01:48:06 [UNKNOWN]: Spoilers for Endor, come on Lee, who who's listening to our podcast that has not seen all of Andor multiple times like that that that that that there's no big diagram there.
01:48:07 --> 01:48:07 [UNKNOWN]: Yes.
01:48:08 --> 01:48:09 [UNKNOWN]: Your lower house you've seen Andor.
01:48:09 --> 01:48:10 [UNKNOWN]: I don't know that's my opinion about it.
01:48:12 --> 01:48:13 [UNKNOWN]: But I love how the fact that
01:48:14 --> 01:48:37 [UNKNOWN]: In that one, they also did not play the sound for us, because our imaginations and our anticipation of what that sound might be or what these scenes might be is far, far, far more powerful, than anything that they could construct and show us on-screen.
01:48:39 --> 01:48:55 [UNKNOWN]: and to me that's just expert level show crafting and design that they never once even did they fit you know who knows but that they didn't even give us a little flash of nothing that was just to me perfect.
01:48:57 --> 01:48:59 [UNKNOWN]: Did you notice though on the device?
01:49:01 --> 01:49:02 [UNKNOWN]: the color of the light.
01:49:03 --> 01:49:06 [UNKNOWN]: It didn't hit, I didn't, I didn't pee it until you mentioned it.
01:49:07 --> 01:49:07 [UNKNOWN]: Orange.
01:49:08 --> 01:49:08 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
01:49:09 --> 01:49:09 [UNKNOWN]: There's that.
01:49:09 --> 01:49:11 [UNKNOWN]: I don't know what orange means in the Everest.
01:49:12 --> 01:49:12 [UNKNOWN]: Everest.
01:49:12 --> 01:49:13 [UNKNOWN]: So I don't know.
01:49:13 --> 01:49:15 [UNKNOWN]: Does it, okay, does it play?
01:49:15 --> 01:49:15 [UNKNOWN]: I don't know.
01:49:15 --> 01:49:18 [UNKNOWN]: I don't think so because that's not who I think Anton is.
01:49:19 --> 01:49:19 [UNKNOWN]: Okay.
01:49:22 --> 01:49:41 [UNKNOWN]: fair enough so all right so we know you know we're always we're looking for the theories where it ain't calling you out here where we're we're hive mind we're we're looking for every angle we're looking everything in there I did love the the word play between Antan and and and and the definition and meanings of words and sort of playing like a little dictionary game and that
01:49:43 --> 01:49:47 [UNKNOWN]: that's instantly sort of how he deduces John deduces that their aliens, right?
01:49:47 --> 01:49:53 [UNKNOWN]: He takes a book, he takes a page out of house book in the interrogations before.
01:49:53 --> 01:49:53 [UNKNOWN]: Yes.
01:49:53 --> 01:49:58 [UNKNOWN]: Okay, there's what you know and what you've been trained to know, but what is it that you don't know?
01:49:59 --> 01:50:00 [UNKNOWN]: Very views all.
01:50:00 --> 01:50:08 [UNKNOWN]: The negative space, the non-answer or the the missing context, that's what's more telling than it is, whether you can
01:50:09 --> 01:50:12 [UNKNOWN]: tell me who, you know, the 44th president in the United States was.
01:50:12 --> 01:50:13 [UNKNOWN]: So, so good.
01:50:14 --> 01:50:21 [UNKNOWN]: And obviously they know his name and they know how the rings work, so they've obviously done all the sort of intelligence and know about him.
01:50:23 --> 01:50:25 [UNKNOWN]: Because they're hunting a man hunter.
01:50:25 --> 01:50:26 [UNKNOWN]: Right.
01:50:26 --> 01:50:26 [UNKNOWN]: Right.
01:50:27 --> 01:50:27 [UNKNOWN]: Right.
01:50:27 --> 01:50:30 [UNKNOWN]: And so, and if these guys are this good,
01:50:31 --> 01:50:52 [UNKNOWN]: What does it mean that they can't get close to this man under that sets a scale and a stakes for us that these guys have bombs woven into their physique that it's really hard to detect them by Earth technology and it takes this extremely special technology that only will you make it has to detect them.
01:50:54 --> 01:50:56 [UNKNOWN]: And they're like, yo, we can't get close.
01:50:56 --> 01:50:57 [UNKNOWN]: So what does that tell you?
01:50:58 --> 01:50:59 [UNKNOWN]: That tells you that man hunters.
01:50:59 --> 01:51:00 [UNKNOWN]: That they've shown us.
01:51:01 --> 01:51:09 [UNKNOWN]: Man hunters are this dangerous, because these mofos over here, who are really, really, really, really capable.
01:51:10 --> 01:51:15 [UNKNOWN]: And they know a lot, and they know how to defeat a green lantern and a green lantern training and all this stuff.
01:51:17 --> 01:51:22 [UNKNOWN]: Right, then the man hunter is something to be feared and something to worry about.
01:51:23 --> 01:51:27 [UNKNOWN]: We got to do a big conversation over dungeons and do rags last week to there.
01:51:28 --> 01:51:28 [UNKNOWN]: I know.
01:51:30 --> 01:51:38 [UNKNOWN]: Big conversation, Ron was trying to figure out, because there seems like there's two man hunters in the world.
01:51:38 --> 01:51:40 [UNKNOWN]: They're not two men hunters.
01:51:40 --> 01:51:40 [UNKNOWN]: Okay.
01:51:40 --> 01:51:41 [UNKNOWN]: They're not two men.
01:51:42 --> 01:51:42 [UNKNOWN]: Okay.
01:51:42 --> 01:51:43 [UNKNOWN]: So break it down first.
01:51:43 --> 01:51:45 [UNKNOWN]: There is the Martian man hunter.
01:51:46 --> 01:51:49 [UNKNOWN]: separate, totally, not this.
01:51:49 --> 01:51:53 [UNKNOWN]: Okay, Martian Man Hunter is the last of his kind from Mars.
01:51:53 --> 01:51:54 [UNKNOWN]: Okay.
01:51:54 --> 01:52:00 [UNKNOWN]: Okay, his brother committed genocide and destroyed everybody that looked like him, Green Martians.
01:52:01 --> 01:52:11 [UNKNOWN]: Okay, he can stay safe, he can fly, he's damn powerful, to get into your mind, to telepath, he's just an OP character.
01:52:11 --> 01:52:13 [UNKNOWN]: That is Martian Man Hunter.
01:52:14 --> 01:52:21 [UNKNOWN]: All right, man hunters are robots created by the guardians to be the first space police.
01:52:23 --> 01:52:25 [UNKNOWN]: but they went overboard and started genociding everything.
01:52:26 --> 01:52:27 [UNKNOWN]: A little ultra-on like.
01:52:28 --> 01:52:29 [UNKNOWN]: No, because it's not just one.
01:52:30 --> 01:52:32 [UNKNOWN]: No, but I mean, like in this case.
01:52:32 --> 01:52:34 [UNKNOWN]: Not even get rid of all organics.
01:52:35 --> 01:52:35 [UNKNOWN]: No, not in this case.
01:52:36 --> 01:52:40 [UNKNOWN]: No, no, just in the start, you know, hey, any day security system, that's really good.
01:52:40 --> 01:52:42 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, yes, yes, yes, yes.
01:52:43 --> 01:52:45 [UNKNOWN]: So those are the man hunters.
01:52:45 --> 01:52:50 [UNKNOWN]: They were the original space cops that went rogue, went, they broke.
01:52:51 --> 01:52:51 [UNKNOWN]: evil.
01:52:51 --> 01:52:52 [UNKNOWN]: They broke bad.
01:52:53 --> 01:52:56 [UNKNOWN]: Um, so this is what we're dealing with.
01:52:57 --> 01:52:59 [UNKNOWN]: Um, they're not the same.
01:52:59 --> 01:53:02 [UNKNOWN]: Mushroom man hunter is not the same as got it.
01:53:02 --> 01:53:04 [UNKNOWN]: The man hunters.
01:53:05 --> 01:53:07 [UNKNOWN]: done debate over.
01:53:08 --> 01:53:09 [UNKNOWN]: Yes.
01:53:09 --> 01:53:10 [UNKNOWN]: It's good.
01:53:11 --> 01:53:15 [UNKNOWN]: So, and we got the y and the wear and the how for on the manufacturer.
01:53:16 --> 01:53:22 [UNKNOWN]: So, uh, uh, OP, like crazy powerful, original man hunters are really powerful.
01:53:22 --> 01:53:23 [UNKNOWN]: Got it.
01:53:23 --> 01:53:25 [UNKNOWN]: This really one of the most powerful.
01:53:25 --> 01:53:32 [UNKNOWN]: They, they, one of the most powerful forces in DC comics, they are really powerful.
01:53:32 --> 01:53:32 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
01:53:32 --> 01:53:50 [UNKNOWN]: So that then brings around with later we get how actually saying, oh, well, maybe that's what caused abinsure to get taken out and why in and up at the ring, it's house theory.
01:53:51 --> 01:53:55 [UNKNOWN]: We don't know if that's a valid theory or not.
01:53:56 --> 01:53:57 [UNKNOWN]: It's a theory that needs to be tested.
01:53:57 --> 01:53:59 [UNKNOWN]: It's a good theory to carry around.
01:53:59 --> 01:54:05 [UNKNOWN]: But are we going to be surprised if that's not the functional theory in the end?
01:54:06 --> 01:54:09 [UNKNOWN]: Like, that's not the theory that we really should have been holding on to?
01:54:11 --> 01:54:11 [UNKNOWN]: Is that a red herring?
01:54:13 --> 01:54:14 [UNKNOWN]: That's the answer to the point.
01:54:14 --> 01:54:19 [UNKNOWN]: It could be because I'm definitely in the camp in house camp.
01:54:19 --> 01:54:19 [UNKNOWN]: Okay.
01:54:20 --> 01:54:22 [UNKNOWN]: Like, I've been Sarah Wizz.
01:54:23 --> 01:54:25 [UNKNOWN]: Had a man such as a prisoner.
01:54:26 --> 01:54:27 [UNKNOWN]: They killed them.
01:54:27 --> 01:54:28 [UNKNOWN]: Which is not ours.
01:54:29 --> 01:54:30 [UNKNOWN]: What happened in the comics?
01:54:31 --> 01:54:31 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
01:54:31 --> 01:54:35 [UNKNOWN]: So we're explained in comics, subsequent comics, and other being print variations.
01:54:36 --> 01:54:39 [UNKNOWN]: So, one of those, you know, is this, you know?
01:54:39 --> 01:54:41 [UNKNOWN]: Yes, that's what I want to know.
01:54:41 --> 01:54:43 [UNKNOWN]: I want to know that this is how the man Hunter came to earth.
01:54:45 --> 01:54:53 [UNKNOWN]: So, here is now my pet theory on what's going on with the militia.
01:54:56 --> 01:55:01 [UNKNOWN]: It's not a theory that I'm putting internet points on.
01:55:01 --> 01:55:13 [UNKNOWN]: I'm not wagering anything big here, but it's a thought that I had when I saw my second watch the other day that what if not unlike a bond villain?
01:55:15 --> 01:55:18 [UNKNOWN]: The villain always has a henchman army.
01:55:24 --> 01:55:51 [UNKNOWN]: you need people right uh... uh... uh... uh... what was the original uh... avengers the television show with agent whatever's name was and uh... but it helped me out here yeah john most of the tv show them now got it when you put me on the spot that's not well you're you know that you're still you know you know you know we got to rely on our maesters here now i don't know
01:55:53 --> 01:55:54 [UNKNOWN]: he was a spot.
01:55:54 --> 01:55:58 [UNKNOWN]: It was anyway that TV show that was on before the Avengers movie started.
01:55:58 --> 01:56:02 [UNKNOWN]: It was on it was a Marvel series.
01:56:03 --> 01:56:04 [UNKNOWN]: Age is a field.
01:56:04 --> 01:56:05 [UNKNOWN]: Thank you.
01:56:05 --> 01:56:06 [UNKNOWN]: Age and Sealed.
01:56:06 --> 01:56:06 [UNKNOWN]: Gosh.
01:56:06 --> 01:56:07 [UNKNOWN]: That was hard.
01:56:07 --> 01:56:08 [UNKNOWN]: Deepel, that was hard for you.
01:56:09 --> 01:56:10 [UNKNOWN]: Yes, that was difficult for me.
01:56:10 --> 01:56:12 [UNKNOWN]: And what was the Age and Sealed?
01:56:13 --> 01:56:16 [UNKNOWN]: What's Shield's Counter-Nemesis Force?
01:56:16 --> 01:56:17 [UNKNOWN]: Hydra.
01:56:17 --> 01:56:20 [UNKNOWN]: Hydra has, you know, you could have different
01:56:21 --> 01:56:25 [UNKNOWN]: enemy, you know, bosses, but they all have henchmen and doing stuff, right?
01:56:26 --> 01:56:45 [UNKNOWN]: What if the man hunter secretly is manipulating the xenophobes and the, the, the, the, the make in family to create this armed militia force and henchmen.
01:56:48 --> 01:57:08 [UNKNOWN]: as a kind of cloak and protection, where better to hide than amongst the midst of these xenophobes, speciesists, and have an army at the same time who can, you know, ready to rock and roll at a moment's notice.
01:57:10 --> 01:57:26 [UNKNOWN]: right that against your human enemies and alien enemies likewise that would be a pretty strategically advantageous thing now i'm not saying that that's i'm not putting any any points i'm just posing a what if question what if the man hunter is
01:57:27 --> 01:57:31 [UNKNOWN]: You know, maybe the manhunter is not even the mysterious benefactor.
01:57:31 --> 01:57:33 [UNKNOWN]: Maybe the manhunter is Noah, right?
01:57:33 --> 01:57:35 [UNKNOWN]: Maybe the manhunter is oh, we don't know.
01:57:35 --> 01:57:36 [UNKNOWN]: We don't know yet.
01:57:36 --> 01:57:43 [UNKNOWN]: But what if the manhunter is using the militia as a kind of cloak?
01:57:43 --> 01:57:51 [UNKNOWN]: At the time of having a handy, handy-dandy duck that can shoot an AR15.
01:57:52 --> 01:57:52 [UNKNOWN]: I like it.
01:57:54 --> 01:57:54 [UNKNOWN]: I like it.
01:57:55 --> 01:58:01 [UNKNOWN]: I actually think that the man hunter is the benefactor and the benefactor is using the militia, just like he just said.
01:58:01 --> 01:58:01 [UNKNOWN]: Okay.
01:58:02 --> 01:58:02 [UNKNOWN]: Great.
01:58:02 --> 01:58:07 [UNKNOWN]: The benefactor as the man hunter, that's an obvious point, right?
01:58:07 --> 01:58:08 [UNKNOWN]: Yes, like that.
01:58:08 --> 01:58:10 [UNKNOWN]: That's just it's a very good obvious.
01:58:10 --> 01:58:10 [UNKNOWN]: I don't know.
01:58:10 --> 01:58:10 [UNKNOWN]: Okay.
01:58:10 --> 01:58:12 [UNKNOWN]: Very good.
01:58:12 --> 01:58:13 [UNKNOWN]: It just is what it is.
01:58:13 --> 01:58:15 [UNKNOWN]: We don't have to walk like a duck.
01:58:15 --> 01:58:17 [UNKNOWN]: Shoot an AR15 like a duck.
01:58:17 --> 01:58:17 [UNKNOWN]: It's a duck.
01:58:18 --> 01:58:18 [UNKNOWN]: Yes.
01:58:18 --> 01:58:19 [UNKNOWN]: Yes.
01:58:19 --> 01:58:19 [UNKNOWN]: Yes.
01:58:21 --> 01:58:24 [UNKNOWN]: Alright, speaking of getting shot, they shot me.
01:58:24 --> 01:58:30 [UNKNOWN]: How wakes cuffed to a hospital bed and Carrie tells him he brought the shooting one himself.
01:58:32 --> 01:58:45 [UNKNOWN]: She presses him about Sinestro, a name he has said in a sleep, and then she recites back the public record about a lantern who tried a coup and killed a guardian before how to come down, though how won't confirm anything further.
01:58:46 --> 01:58:51 [UNKNOWN]: She encuffs him only after he agrees to stop storming the gombound.
01:58:52 --> 01:59:00 [UNKNOWN]: stopped, you know, uh, and it admits she was wrong to assume Wailing wasn't an alien since he never tripped the detector.
01:59:01 --> 01:59:14 [UNKNOWN]: She deflects his questions about herself beyond being from Gotham and moving to Rushville on a whim, leaving the hospital, how notices that the hospital is oddly overbuilt for such a small town.
01:59:18 --> 01:59:34 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, this was another great, great, great singing between the two of them, and just, um, I love how she, you know, I need to know a lot more about Sheriff Curry.
01:59:34 --> 01:59:36 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, she does thing often.
01:59:37 --> 01:59:46 [UNKNOWN]: She does in her last name is Cain, and for those folks out there, Martha Cain is Bruce Wayne's mother.
01:59:47 --> 01:59:52 [UNKNOWN]: So is there a connection between Sheriff Kerry, whose maiden name is Kayn last name is Kayn?
01:59:53 --> 01:59:53 [UNKNOWN]: Okay.
01:59:54 --> 01:59:57 [UNKNOWN]: And the Wayne family and Martha Kayn's family.
02:00:00 --> 02:00:02 [UNKNOWN]: Is she in her shoe and bruise cousins?
02:00:02 --> 02:00:02 [UNKNOWN]: I don't know.
02:00:02 --> 02:00:05 [UNKNOWN]: Okay, interesting to find out.
02:00:05 --> 02:00:07 [UNKNOWN]: Okay.
02:00:08 --> 02:00:10 [UNKNOWN]: She says, I think she's on the phone.
02:00:12 --> 02:00:13 [UNKNOWN]: It's with a Gordon.
02:00:15 --> 02:00:19 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, in this episode, it was last episode, right?
02:00:20 --> 02:00:24 [UNKNOWN]: Kevin on the phone, and she says, thanks, um, thanks.
02:00:25 --> 02:00:28 [UNKNOWN]: She thinks Gordon and ask how bad it is.
02:00:29 --> 02:00:31 [UNKNOWN]: Has to be last, I think was last episode.
02:00:31 --> 02:00:36 [UNKNOWN]: Maybe when when when when how walks into the police or when Stuart somebody.
02:00:36 --> 02:00:40 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, but those those things.
02:00:41 --> 02:00:42 [UNKNOWN]: pointing to got it.
02:00:43 --> 02:00:51 [UNKNOWN]: Gotham and Babs is Barbara Gordon who's also back girl and her nickname is Babs.
02:00:52 --> 02:01:06 [UNKNOWN]: And now we have her saying, you know, Gotham specifically and Cain specifically and it just wants, I'm just thinking about how she connected to Bruce Wayne.
02:01:06 --> 02:01:10 [UNKNOWN]: How she connected to, you know, the stories and
02:01:11 --> 02:01:15 [UNKNOWN]: And what is she doing out here in the middle of nowhere?
02:01:15 --> 02:01:15 [UNKNOWN]: Mm-hmm.
02:01:15 --> 02:01:18 [UNKNOWN]: Did she run away from Gotham for some reason?
02:01:18 --> 02:01:19 [UNKNOWN]: Did you run away from Gotham for some reason?
02:01:19 --> 02:01:21 [UNKNOWN]: You run away from Gotham for some reason?
02:01:21 --> 02:01:21 [UNKNOWN]: Right.
02:01:22 --> 02:01:25 [UNKNOWN]: Or was she forced to get out of Gotham for some reason?
02:01:25 --> 02:01:25 [UNKNOWN]: Mm-hmm.
02:01:26 --> 02:01:31 [UNKNOWN]: Because I don't know, maybe it was love at first, but I don't know.
02:01:31 --> 02:01:33 [UNKNOWN]: How much love there is now with her, and I'm
02:01:35 --> 02:01:35 [UNKNOWN]: What's his name?
02:01:35 --> 02:01:36 [UNKNOWN]: The husband.
02:01:36 --> 02:01:37 [UNKNOWN]: It's not smooth.
02:01:37 --> 02:01:38 [UNKNOWN]: William.
02:01:38 --> 02:01:38 [UNKNOWN]: Billy.
02:01:39 --> 02:01:39 [UNKNOWN]: Billy.
02:01:39 --> 02:01:39 [UNKNOWN]: Sorry.
02:01:40 --> 02:01:40 [UNKNOWN]: So yeah.
02:01:40 --> 02:01:43 [UNKNOWN]: I don't know how much love there is there right now.
02:01:43 --> 02:01:44 [UNKNOWN]: Mm-hmm.
02:01:44 --> 02:01:48 [UNKNOWN]: So is this a marriage that, you know, she?
02:01:49 --> 02:01:50 [UNKNOWN]: Convenience.
02:01:51 --> 02:01:51 [UNKNOWN]: Love.
02:01:52 --> 02:01:57 [UNKNOWN]: but all these little tidbits around her backstory about her history is really interesting.
02:01:57 --> 02:02:09 [UNKNOWN]: And I think this was what stood out to me most in this scene as well as when they're leaving and how says, you know, we're looking into the hospital.
02:02:10 --> 02:02:16 [UNKNOWN]: It's empty, but there's a lot of stuff in there, but there's no patience.
02:02:16 --> 02:02:16 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
02:02:17 --> 02:02:19 [UNKNOWN]: You know, so what is all of this stuff for?
02:02:20 --> 02:02:21 [UNKNOWN]: play.
02:02:21 --> 02:02:23 [UNKNOWN]: I'm very confused about this hospital.
02:02:23 --> 02:02:26 [UNKNOWN]: He goes through the book, the science sheet.
02:02:27 --> 02:02:27 [UNKNOWN]: Right.
02:02:27 --> 02:02:28 [UNKNOWN]: There are no other names.
02:02:30 --> 02:02:32 [UNKNOWN]: What kind of games are we playing here, Rushwell?
02:02:32 --> 02:02:32 [UNKNOWN]: What's the
02:02:34 --> 02:02:39 [UNKNOWN]: And oh, yeah, all the equipments in, you know, with packing, you know, plastic around it and everything like that.
02:02:39 --> 02:02:42 [UNKNOWN]: So is this brand new construction?
02:02:42 --> 02:02:44 [UNKNOWN]: Is it a new hospital?
02:02:44 --> 02:02:48 [UNKNOWN]: Why is it in anticipation for something?
02:02:48 --> 02:02:55 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, they're preparing, like you said, they're preparing to receive trauma victims, like, what is happening?
02:02:56 --> 02:03:04 [UNKNOWN]: So a lot more questions about Kerry and a lot more questions about Russell Hill Popper I had just within this scene.
02:03:04 --> 02:03:04 [UNKNOWN]: Nice.
02:03:06 --> 02:03:19 [UNKNOWN]: Good show asking lots of cool questions Real quick Tom Osborn's name gets dropped twice did you know this I mean obviously I had to look it up on the internet because I don't know this
02:03:21 --> 02:03:44 [UNKNOWN]: uh... he's a football coach uh... legendary former coach of the university of Nebraska corn huskers one three national championship championships and ninety four ninety five and ninety seven became a politician after he retired from coaching and he was a republican member of the u.s. house representatives and he's widely regarded as a cultural icon and folk hero across the state of Nebraska so
02:03:46 --> 02:04:03 [UNKNOWN]: Hal is just sort of referencing a local mutable here, uh, but he sort of really digging in, which is funny because if she's not from here, then okay, maybe she's probably definitely heard of him, but it's not going to carry any,
02:04:05 --> 02:04:15 [UNKNOWN]: cultural heat or spin for her in the same way as it is it would a need of somebody who's sort of grown up as a corn husker and you know really really into the culture and everything like that.
02:04:17 --> 02:04:21 [UNKNOWN]: The thing that I really loved about this and we just I didn't know about Tom Osborne.
02:04:22 --> 02:04:22 [UNKNOWN]: Okay.
02:04:24 --> 02:04:25 [UNKNOWN]: who it is downholzer.
02:04:25 --> 02:04:43 [UNKNOWN]: I'd love to see the search the trending searchers like how many people are like that's a great way if you're a show you're like okay how what's our engagement and penetration with the show is like okay let's slip in some random let's note the current level of Tom Osborn searching
02:04:44 --> 02:04:55 [UNKNOWN]: right now we have a baseline and then we drop our episode and then let's measure the sort of D plus 3 D plus 7 you know searches then we can see you know how big is our show anyway sorry I'm getting all nerdy about stuff like that
02:04:57 --> 02:05:14 [UNKNOWN]: What really interested me though was the relationship between Hal and Carrie here and and Carrie pushing back having having to actually chain a man to the bed to get him to listen to her point of view saying you know not until you listen to me
02:05:16 --> 02:05:16 [UNKNOWN]: Can you manage that?
02:05:17 --> 02:05:18 [UNKNOWN]: He's just got a chain him down.
02:05:18 --> 02:05:19 [UNKNOWN]: Get him to listen.
02:05:19 --> 02:05:31 [UNKNOWN]: Because every time you don't listen or you steal bodies or storm my father-in-law's compound and don't let me do the talking, what you're really doing is cutting my legs straight out from under me.
02:05:32 --> 02:05:33 [UNKNOWN]: I'm the sheriff.
02:05:34 --> 02:05:40 [UNKNOWN]: If you don't follow my lead, you're legitimizing this idea that making is the seat of power and trust me.
02:05:41 --> 02:05:43 [UNKNOWN]: You do not want to help push that narrative.
02:05:44 --> 02:05:45 [UNKNOWN]: This is my town.
02:05:45 --> 02:05:50 [UNKNOWN]: I have worked my ass off to earn people's respect and I can't have you undermining that.
02:05:50 --> 02:05:51 [UNKNOWN]: You're right.
02:05:53 --> 02:05:55 [UNKNOWN]: So to me, there's a couple of things going on here.
02:05:55 --> 02:05:59 [UNKNOWN]: The legitimizing a power angle and then the angle of,
02:06:00 --> 02:06:05 [UNKNOWN]: I'm the sheriff and it has and without saying it.
02:06:06 --> 02:06:20 [UNKNOWN]: What's happening underneath here is, is a man is undermining the authority of a woman and the only way she can get him to listen to her is she actually has to take him prisoner.
02:06:35 --> 02:06:39 [UNKNOWN]: Not, you know, to his credit, to his detriment, right?
02:06:39 --> 02:06:41 [UNKNOWN]: He's pushing it, but he pushes everybody.
02:06:42 --> 02:06:46 [UNKNOWN]: But at the end of this, he actually does actually get it.
02:06:47 --> 02:06:51 [UNKNOWN]: And then they share another moment, which we'll play a second in a minute.
02:06:53 --> 02:06:54 [UNKNOWN]: But that,
02:06:56 --> 02:06:59 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, she's a Marge Gunderson trope, right?
02:06:59 --> 02:07:01 [UNKNOWN]: She's like, oh, shucks, gosh, I'm just the sheriff.
02:07:02 --> 02:07:15 [UNKNOWN]: You know, small town, you know, all that sort of hokey shit, but no, and it's both there for any of us to assume that she is any less.
02:07:15 --> 02:07:17 [UNKNOWN]: She's a freaking sheriff for God's sake.
02:07:17 --> 02:07:24 [UNKNOWN]: So the training you have to go through the years that you have to put in, the Paula ticking that you have to do, the management that you have to do,
02:07:25 --> 02:07:33 [UNKNOWN]: It is not an easy thing to be a lead enforcement, you know, law enforcement officer anywhere in the world under any circumstances.
02:07:34 --> 02:07:41 [UNKNOWN]: And she says, I have worked my ass off to gain respect in this town so that people accept me.
02:07:41 --> 02:07:44 [UNKNOWN]: Because then later at the end of the scene, we learn that she's not from here.
02:07:44 --> 02:07:45 [UNKNOWN]: Right, exactly.
02:07:45 --> 02:07:46 [UNKNOWN]: She's from Gotham.
02:07:46 --> 02:07:47 [UNKNOWN]: There's nothing small town about her.
02:07:48 --> 02:07:48 [UNKNOWN]: Mm-hmm.
02:07:49 --> 02:07:53 [UNKNOWN]: And I think the assumption that how I made was that everything was small town about her.
02:07:55 --> 02:08:19 [UNKNOWN]: that assumption to be making that no she's like 10 steps ahead of you man yeah had every turn we and we learned that with John right he was like oh shit i fucked up by going down here and she was like yeah you did so i may talk like a small town share of but i am you know i'm way ahead of the game here on all y'all who was she on the Gotham PD
02:08:20 --> 02:08:23 [UNKNOWN]: where she closed with Jim Gordon was a commissioner, right?
02:08:23 --> 02:08:26 [UNKNOWN]: It was a great detective and where she closed with Batman.
02:08:27 --> 02:08:29 [UNKNOWN]: Who is considered the greatest detective in?
02:08:30 --> 02:08:31 [UNKNOWN]: DC Comics.
02:08:31 --> 02:08:31 [UNKNOWN]: Right.
02:08:32 --> 02:08:35 [UNKNOWN]: So there's nothing small town on hokey about her.
02:08:35 --> 02:08:39 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, they made the assumption that she was all small town hokeyness.
02:08:39 --> 02:08:42 [UNKNOWN]: So again, here we are layering in social issue.
02:08:42 --> 02:08:55 [UNKNOWN]: Real world, you know, social issues into our, you know, she said she had to work to get these people to accept me to recognize that I know what the fuck I'm doing.
02:08:55 --> 02:08:55 [UNKNOWN]: You know,
02:08:58 --> 02:09:06 [UNKNOWN]: So here's the other audio clip and the reason this one jumped out at me is the noun that has been turned into a verb which I absolutely love.
02:09:07 --> 02:09:09 [UNKNOWN]: I apologize for trying to obstruct you.
02:09:10 --> 02:09:15 [UNKNOWN]: I just didn't want Billy's dad insurrecting this shit out of everyone and getting them all.
02:09:15 --> 02:09:17 [UNKNOWN]: Parenthood about invasion.
02:09:18 --> 02:09:19 [UNKNOWN]: So much for that plan.
02:09:20 --> 02:09:24 [UNKNOWN]: I love the fact that insurrecting is a verb.
02:09:24 --> 02:09:25 [UNKNOWN]: You know I'm a user.
02:09:27 --> 02:09:29 [UNKNOWN]: I'm taking that running with it.
02:09:32 --> 02:09:34 [UNKNOWN]: insurrecting, right?
02:09:34 --> 02:09:36 [UNKNOWN]: That is so, so clever.
02:09:36 --> 02:09:52 [UNKNOWN]: Again, just layering in, just layering in, real time, note interesting here, wrong, just dropped the Dungeons in du-rags podcast for episode two, obviously, we're behind because of life scheduling.
02:09:53 --> 02:09:57 [UNKNOWN]: But apparently, ado is concerned about lindle offs involvement in the show.
02:09:57 --> 02:09:58 [UNKNOWN]: So I'm like, really super,
02:10:01 --> 02:10:06 [UNKNOWN]: Watch, I got to hear what the concerns are because I'm loving the fact that lindle off.
02:10:07 --> 02:10:18 [UNKNOWN]: Now, I don't know lindle off outside of the shows and things that he's producing, but for the shows that he has been producing, like, I need to know why there might be concern about that.
02:10:19 --> 02:10:20 [UNKNOWN]: Do you have any concern?
02:10:21 --> 02:10:21 [UNKNOWN]: No, I don't.
02:10:22 --> 02:10:22 [UNKNOWN]: Okay.
02:10:22 --> 02:10:22 [UNKNOWN]: All right.
02:10:23 --> 02:10:23 [UNKNOWN]: I do not.
02:10:23 --> 02:10:25 [UNKNOWN]: Make sure I'm missing something.
02:10:27 --> 02:10:27 [UNKNOWN]: I do not.
02:10:28 --> 02:10:28 [UNKNOWN]: I do not.
02:10:29 --> 02:10:31 [UNKNOWN]: So it'll be interesting to hear what the concerns are.
02:10:31 --> 02:10:32 [UNKNOWN]: Yes, for sure.
02:10:34 --> 02:10:34 [UNKNOWN]: Alright, let's do this.
02:10:34 --> 02:10:41 [UNKNOWN]: Let's, uh, before we talk about the, the cafe scene, let's take one more break and then we'll finish up the episode.
02:10:51 --> 02:10:52 [UNKNOWN]: and we're back.
02:10:53 --> 02:10:54 [UNKNOWN]: How's your white man doing?
02:10:54 --> 02:10:56 [UNKNOWN]: John runs into Zoe at the cafe.
02:10:56 --> 02:11:04 [UNKNOWN]: They talk about their respective white men with Zoe clarifying that she's willing to put up with her husband's e-sign tricities for the security that he provides.
02:11:04 --> 02:11:11 [UNKNOWN]: John confesses that he doesn't know if he can trust how and Zoe's retort pulls him up on his shorts.
02:11:13 --> 02:11:17 [UNKNOWN]: Okay, should we start off with a little quote here of it?
02:11:17 --> 02:11:19 [UNKNOWN]: Let's play a little clip from this.
02:11:19 --> 02:11:22 [UNKNOWN]: Wait, man, have the privilege of being eccentric.
02:11:23 --> 02:11:24 [UNKNOWN]: Wait, man, with money.
02:11:25 --> 02:11:27 [UNKNOWN]: When I couldn't do what I was a fuck they want.
02:11:28 --> 02:11:30 [UNKNOWN]: Play cowboy, the castles.
02:11:31 --> 02:11:31 [UNKNOWN]: You like it?
02:11:32 --> 02:11:34 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, I like the security.
02:11:34 --> 02:11:38 [UNKNOWN]: I also like that he could have brought some blonde pepper from Texas to be a Sergeant Candy, but he wanted me.
02:11:44 --> 02:11:51 [UNKNOWN]: They just, and then when she asked him, he's like, he sent me to fetch his stuff.
02:11:53 --> 02:12:08 [UNKNOWN]: Right, you know, I am picked by the Guardians to be a backup green lantern, and you got me out here playing valet because you're too lazy to bring your own damn lantern.
02:12:08 --> 02:12:09 [UNKNOWN]: You gotta make me go to it.
02:12:11 --> 02:12:19 [UNKNOWN]: And you suit and good thinking that he brought it because he turns out he can't even be wanted it.
02:12:20 --> 02:12:21 [UNKNOWN]: Thoughts.
02:12:22 --> 02:12:24 [UNKNOWN]: I love this conversation that they're having.
02:12:25 --> 02:12:30 [UNKNOWN]: I just you know the calculations that you have to make.
02:12:32 --> 02:12:58 [UNKNOWN]: are not for me to, that women have to make it, are not for me to discuss the same, how you, you don't view love in what matters, what doesn't matter, that's what each individual person is interesting that she recognizes that William, that making is not just a centric,
02:13:00 --> 02:13:01 [UNKNOWN]: exactly what she described.
02:13:02 --> 02:13:02 [UNKNOWN]: Mm-hmm.
02:13:03 --> 02:13:04 [UNKNOWN]: And she knows it.
02:13:05 --> 02:13:05 [UNKNOWN]: Yep.
02:13:05 --> 02:13:10 [UNKNOWN]: And she says, uh, I'm not, what, what was the line?
02:13:10 --> 02:13:15 [UNKNOWN]: I didn't grab this clip, but she's, he's her husband and she loves him.
02:13:15 --> 02:13:16 [UNKNOWN]: Right.
02:13:16 --> 02:13:17 [UNKNOWN]: And she knows that he loves her.
02:13:18 --> 02:13:18 [UNKNOWN]: Mm-hmm.
02:13:18 --> 02:13:20 [UNKNOWN]: And she's not ready to win.
02:13:20 --> 02:13:21 [UNKNOWN]: Whatever the, yes.
02:13:21 --> 02:13:28 [UNKNOWN]: Extra curricular activities of any partner or with consent, without consent,
02:13:30 --> 02:13:42 [UNKNOWN]: know the shape of that we don't know what the agreements are among between the two consenting adults and and I set their watch and that scene and afterwards I thought about you know the vice president of these United States.
02:13:44 --> 02:14:03 [UNKNOWN]: and his xenophobic and racist and absolutely horrendous views of who should be allowed to be citizens of this country when he has a wife and a whole family at that.
02:14:09 --> 02:14:14 [UNKNOWN]: We went down the road that he wanted to go, that his wife, his children would not be here.
02:14:16 --> 02:14:16 [UNKNOWN]: great.
02:14:17 --> 02:14:17 [UNKNOWN]: Right.
02:14:17 --> 02:14:18 [UNKNOWN]: So I'm watching this play out.
02:14:18 --> 02:14:28 [UNKNOWN]: I'm thinking about that in terms of making because I firmly believe as we've been talking about that this militia man is the fucking racist.
02:14:29 --> 02:14:30 [UNKNOWN]: I could be wrong.
02:14:31 --> 02:14:32 [UNKNOWN]: Species.
02:14:32 --> 02:14:32 [UNKNOWN]: I don't know.
02:14:32 --> 02:14:33 [UNKNOWN]: I don't know.
02:14:34 --> 02:14:36 [UNKNOWN]: I'm talking before he learned of the existence.
02:14:37 --> 02:14:37 [UNKNOWN]: Okay.
02:14:37 --> 02:14:37 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
02:14:37 --> 02:14:38 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
02:14:38 --> 02:14:38 [UNKNOWN]: Fair.
02:14:38 --> 02:14:38 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
02:14:39 --> 02:14:39 [UNKNOWN]: Right.
02:14:39 --> 02:14:39 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
02:14:40 --> 02:14:41 [UNKNOWN]: And again, I could be wrong.
02:14:42 --> 02:14:44 [UNKNOWN]: I might be making assumptions.
02:14:44 --> 02:14:45 [UNKNOWN]: I don't know.
02:14:45 --> 02:14:49 [UNKNOWN]: It gives me that vibe, the vibes that I get from him.
02:14:51 --> 02:14:56 [UNKNOWN]: And I think that Zoe knows this and is still there, right?
02:14:58 --> 02:15:00 [UNKNOWN]: And that's what calculations as she had to make.
02:15:01 --> 02:15:01 [UNKNOWN]: Exactly.
02:15:01 --> 02:15:02 [UNKNOWN]: To get there.
02:15:02 --> 02:15:18 [UNKNOWN]: The second thing that I'll say about this scene is that when he sits down, and this is why I believe there's a large part of me that does not believe that she is the man hunter, okay, or the benefactor.
02:15:18 --> 02:15:28 [UNKNOWN]: So people are having fun with that theory, though, because it would be kind of a funny thing to have John go, oh dang, I got busy with the band, so the reason why I don't believe it
02:15:31 --> 02:15:49 [UNKNOWN]: You see the bird, the green bird, right behind his head, facing, facing Zoe, on the table, we see the yellow mustard container, and behind Zoe, we see a yellow chicken.
02:15:53 --> 02:15:58 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, so I had to watch it again.
02:15:58 --> 02:16:01 [UNKNOWN]: Nice to make sure that I'll see what I was seeing.
02:16:01 --> 02:16:02 [UNKNOWN]: Proper.
02:16:02 --> 02:16:06 [UNKNOWN]: And I said, oh, what's with the yellow?
02:16:08 --> 02:16:11 [UNKNOWN]: What's with the face off between the yellow and the green green?
02:16:12 --> 02:16:15 [UNKNOWN]: Like John, they're facing each other, Zoe and John.
02:16:16 --> 02:16:19 [UNKNOWN]: And John's green construct is right behind.
02:16:20 --> 02:16:26 [UNKNOWN]: and facing this yellow chicken that is right behind Zoli.
02:16:28 --> 02:16:30 [UNKNOWN]: It just made me feel that she's not the man, Hunter.
02:16:30 --> 02:16:35 [UNKNOWN]: But again, I have been, I have a track record of being wrong about all of this stuff.
02:16:38 --> 02:16:39 [UNKNOWN]: My track record is horrendous.
02:16:40 --> 02:16:41 [UNKNOWN]: Got it.
02:16:41 --> 02:16:47 [UNKNOWN]: But I thought it was a nice little play of possibilities within this scene.
02:16:47 --> 02:16:57 [UNKNOWN]: interesting if the bird was some sort of indicator of how would we say it?
02:16:58 --> 02:17:18 [UNKNOWN]: make you like validating that this is not the man hunter right and I don't even think it was in like the bird was in somehow indicating to John like this person is not right warning like literally it was just in a way that it was framed just like these opposing forces that we know in the
02:17:21 --> 02:17:32 [UNKNOWN]: And we have this, you know, face off between both John and Zoe and potentially those colors on the spectrum, the green and the yellow.
02:17:38 --> 02:17:39 [UNKNOWN]: Um, game.
02:17:39 --> 02:17:46 [UNKNOWN]: There's like so many, the show just keeps opening up more questions and more questions and more questions and that's, uh, that's just great.
02:17:47 --> 02:17:47 [UNKNOWN]: I love it.
02:17:48 --> 02:17:48 [UNKNOWN]: Okay.
02:17:49 --> 02:17:52 [UNKNOWN]: I don't have much more for the scene, uh, should we jump forward?
02:17:52 --> 02:17:53 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, let's do it.
02:17:53 --> 02:17:55 [UNKNOWN]: All right, uh, pour one out for the bird.
02:17:56 --> 02:17:57 [UNKNOWN]: Back to the Motel.
02:17:58 --> 02:18:01 [UNKNOWN]: John reports into Hal, who is now able to recharge the ring.
02:18:02 --> 02:18:08 [UNKNOWN]: He declares he's not leaving Rushville until, as he's convinced, the benefactor is the key to whatever's on the compound.
02:18:09 --> 02:18:16 [UNKNOWN]: John divulges to Hal that Whalen's people abducted him, and that they believe a man Hunter is hiding in the town.
02:18:16 --> 02:18:25 [UNKNOWN]: Hal refuses to believe the Guardians would hide a man hunter on Earth, and then works out for himself that Abensour must have brought the creature to Rushville.
02:18:25 --> 02:18:29 [UNKNOWN]: and then John insists that his bird is just a construct.
02:18:30 --> 02:18:33 [UNKNOWN]: This scene for me was really the heart of the episode.
02:18:34 --> 02:18:48 [UNKNOWN]: Everything was leading forward to this and having them come back together after we've gotten to spend time with them individually and seeing John act with real concern like, oh dang, you got hurt.
02:18:48 --> 02:18:50 [UNKNOWN]: Are you okay?
02:18:50 --> 02:18:51 [UNKNOWN]: Like what's going on?
02:18:51 --> 02:18:52 [UNKNOWN]: And then how being his flip
02:18:54 --> 02:18:55 [UNKNOWN]: you man.
02:18:55 --> 02:18:58 [UNKNOWN]: Here's your shit like I'm going to bed, right?
02:18:58 --> 02:19:15 [UNKNOWN]: And like right back to where we were then the car and the escalation of the frustration and the anger between them and that he's pissed John's disrespected him because he's not treating, you know, he's completely just trash in this car.
02:19:15 --> 02:19:17 [UNKNOWN]: I got to deal with that now, not you.
02:19:18 --> 02:19:19 [UNKNOWN]: So thanks for that
02:19:20 --> 02:19:26 [UNKNOWN]: and then he drops the man hunter line when he was asked to keep that a secret from how.
02:19:27 --> 02:19:45 [UNKNOWN]: And I just, this scene is so complex and I just don't, it's so satisfying, it's so interesting and I just don't know yet how to like parse all of like what what happened emotionally between these two guys because it's a really complex thing.
02:19:47 --> 02:19:58 [UNKNOWN]: being, you know, his trainee, you know, being the trainee, respecting the chain of command, knowing that and learning from him, I'm like, dang, you are like a really good investigator, but you're treating me like shit.
02:19:59 --> 02:20:03 [UNKNOWN]: You make me fetch your things, you trash the car that I'm going to have to deal with now.
02:20:03 --> 02:20:06 [UNKNOWN]: And then I got jacked because you're ass.
02:20:06 --> 02:20:08 [UNKNOWN]: They don't know, but he trust your ass.
02:20:08 --> 02:20:11 [UNKNOWN]: And I don't know if I trust you, but now I am going
02:20:16 --> 02:20:20 [UNKNOWN]: what went down and like this big secret about man hunter stuff.
02:20:21 --> 02:20:28 [UNKNOWN]: Really just just a great way to it for me, I just felt so satisfied at the end.
02:20:29 --> 02:20:51 [UNKNOWN]: of this scene like that scene the episode could end here and I would have been good right to me emotionally the scene ended here the the the the stinger sort of thing with with uh with Dr. Lector I'm I'm sorry I mean uh with uh Sinestro um right that that even just kicks it into this whole other level because we actually go off planet in the episode but you know emotionally
02:20:57 --> 02:21:01 [UNKNOWN]: And it's funny, and it's heartbreaking at the same time.
02:21:02 --> 02:21:03 [UNKNOWN]: And then you like, he crushes the bird.
02:21:03 --> 02:21:04 [UNKNOWN]: I don't know, it's just so much more.
02:21:04 --> 02:21:07 [UNKNOWN]: I can't wear you out with all this.
02:21:07 --> 02:21:10 [UNKNOWN]: I need to talk to this through.
02:21:10 --> 02:21:23 [UNKNOWN]: The first thing that stood out to me was again, a call to the previous scene, because she tells John, if you have to ask, then you already know to ask it.
02:21:23 --> 02:21:24 [UNKNOWN]: It's like, don't trust him.
02:21:26 --> 02:21:27 [UNKNOWN]: All right, if you got to ask that question, you're right.
02:21:27 --> 02:21:29 [UNKNOWN]: No, that answer, don't trust them.
02:21:31 --> 02:21:31 [UNKNOWN]: And what does he do?
02:21:32 --> 02:21:33 [UNKNOWN]: He decides to trust them.
02:21:33 --> 02:21:39 [UNKNOWN]: So again, Zoe is, yeah, this.
02:21:39 --> 02:21:40 [UNKNOWN]: It's not bad advice, though.
02:21:41 --> 02:21:42 [UNKNOWN]: It's not bad advice.
02:21:43 --> 02:21:47 [UNKNOWN]: But it is advice that would potentially be
02:21:50 --> 02:21:59 [UNKNOWN]: the orange and this budding, you know, relationship between him and how a function in relationship between him and how.
02:22:01 --> 02:22:08 [UNKNOWN]: So yeah, like if you want to just spike the relationship, that's one end that you could get absolutely absolutely.
02:22:08 --> 02:22:10 [UNKNOWN]: So let's see you about Zoey.
02:22:12 --> 02:22:19 [UNKNOWN]: And again, he's got more going on that they've got to be in, um, yeah, there's more going on over there.
02:22:20 --> 02:22:28 [UNKNOWN]: So now we get to what I started off early in the pod we were talking about.
02:22:29 --> 02:22:37 [UNKNOWN]: And one of my takes was that we get to see them maybe be getting to later foundation to actually work together and to trust each other.
02:22:38 --> 02:22:54 [UNKNOWN]: To have this go beyond, well, go do what I tell you because I tell you that you need to do it, to potentially coming into partnership with each other around this mystery.
02:22:55 --> 02:23:12 [UNKNOWN]: maybe not around John becoming hell's understudy, but around this problem, let us try to solve this problem, lay the groundwork and then see where it goes from there.
02:23:14 --> 02:23:21 [UNKNOWN]: So I thought this was the first time in these two episodes where I could see both of them making those calculations
02:23:25 --> 02:23:32 [UNKNOWN]: maybe I don't want to keep things that maybe I shouldn't keep from them.
02:23:32 --> 02:23:34 [UNKNOWN]: I got to see how this goes.
02:23:34 --> 02:23:34 [UNKNOWN]: Right.
02:23:36 --> 02:23:48 [UNKNOWN]: And we're already saw earlier in the episode where how it's like, oh shit, there's more to him than I get credit because he did this damn bird.
02:23:48 --> 02:23:50 [UNKNOWN]: You know what I'm saying?
02:23:50 --> 02:23:50 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
02:23:50 --> 02:23:52 [UNKNOWN]: And now he came back with the bird.
02:23:54 --> 02:24:06 [UNKNOWN]: You fulfilled the whole mission and more and more you got extra information that I had no idea about he got jacked and he got away for you know I mean he he lived through that
02:24:07 --> 02:24:09 [UNKNOWN]: right and and came with more and more intel.
02:24:10 --> 02:24:12 [UNKNOWN]: So and he's trusting you with that intel.
02:24:12 --> 02:24:22 [UNKNOWN]: Yes, and I thought that was a nice way to to potentially set up a cooling of the hotheads that they've each had twisted.
02:24:22 --> 02:24:23 [UNKNOWN]: And how is cool down?
02:24:23 --> 02:24:26 [UNKNOWN]: Because when he had the conversation with Kerry in the yes, yes, yes.
02:24:27 --> 02:24:32 [UNKNOWN]: Hospital granted she had to take extreme measures which no woman should have to do
02:24:37 --> 02:24:38 [UNKNOWN]: but he actually did climb down.
02:24:39 --> 02:24:41 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, and all of his attitude.
02:24:42 --> 02:24:57 [UNKNOWN]: That is, yeah, and John had to go through these extreme measures of being kidnapped, having a running on the highway, you know, caring for a construct for most of the day.
02:24:58 --> 02:25:12 [UNKNOWN]: and not even understanding that how impressive that would have been without on time telling him, he wouldn't know because how was it going to tell him was going to say anything.
02:25:12 --> 02:25:13 [UNKNOWN]: Right.
02:25:13 --> 02:25:15 [UNKNOWN]: How would you just kept that information to himself?
02:25:16 --> 02:25:18 [UNKNOWN]: He wouldn't say.
02:25:18 --> 02:25:22 [UNKNOWN]: He was all in Don was like, do you debt?
02:25:22 --> 02:25:24 [UNKNOWN]: This is like, next level.
02:25:24 --> 02:25:25 [UNKNOWN]: Right.
02:25:25 --> 02:25:27 [UNKNOWN]: This is like several next levels up.
02:25:27 --> 02:25:28 [UNKNOWN]: How was it going to give that up?
02:25:29 --> 02:25:30 [UNKNOWN]: He wasn't going to, he would have made a checklist.
02:25:30 --> 02:25:32 [UNKNOWN]: I'm not saying he wouldn't have noticed it.
02:25:32 --> 02:25:33 [UNKNOWN]: Right.
02:25:33 --> 02:25:37 [UNKNOWN]: But I don't think he would have given it up to John to let him know how impressive a feat this was.
02:25:38 --> 02:25:38 [UNKNOWN]: No.
02:25:41 --> 02:25:41 [UNKNOWN]: Nice.
02:25:42 --> 02:25:47 [UNKNOWN]: Uh, I liked how how kind of rush through the Greenlander Mono, uh, that broke my heart.
02:25:47 --> 02:25:49 [UNKNOWN]: Mono when he, uh, recharge it.
02:25:49 --> 02:25:50 [UNKNOWN]: I don't know what I'm saying.
02:25:50 --> 02:25:51 [UNKNOWN]: I broke my heart.
02:25:51 --> 02:25:54 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, I broke my heart.
02:25:54 --> 02:25:56 [UNKNOWN]: I was, I was, I, I felt so bad.
02:25:57 --> 02:25:58 [UNKNOWN]: I felt so bad.
02:25:58 --> 02:26:00 [UNKNOWN]: I'm like, oh man, he's sitting there.
02:26:01 --> 02:26:03 [UNKNOWN]: His shoulders are hunched.
02:26:03 --> 02:26:04 [UNKNOWN]: He, he's good.
02:26:04 --> 02:26:05 [UNKNOWN]: He's been shot.
02:26:06 --> 02:26:09 [UNKNOWN]: He looks ragged, he looks like he has a slept really.
02:26:09 --> 02:26:10 [UNKNOWN]: He gets his battery.
02:26:10 --> 02:26:35 [UNKNOWN]: Hey, it's like, and no, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there
02:26:37 --> 02:26:40 [UNKNOWN]: belief why he's doing what he's doing, right?
02:26:40 --> 02:26:49 [UNKNOWN]: And you see that it means something to him in episode one when the alien he's interrogating starts to say the ohs and he's like don't fucking say that shit, right?
02:26:49 --> 02:26:53 [UNKNOWN]: You say oh do it, don't do it, don't do it, don't market, right?
02:26:54 --> 02:27:02 [UNKNOWN]: And here we have him, you know, episode later just dejectedly saying it,
02:27:02 --> 02:27:06 [UNKNOWN]: Well, kind of, and maybe embarrassed, because he's got to say it in front of the thing, but he's still, I don't know.
02:27:06 --> 02:27:07 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
02:27:07 --> 02:27:08 [UNKNOWN]: There's, there's a lot there.
02:27:08 --> 02:27:13 [UNKNOWN]: I don't even think it was embarrassment because there's nothing that would embarrass how Jordan to me.
02:27:14 --> 02:27:21 [UNKNOWN]: So going back to the interrogation scene isn't that interesting, that how it gets upset when the alien
02:27:26 --> 02:27:29 [UNKNOWN]: There's something that's something deep in house.
02:27:29 --> 02:27:40 [UNKNOWN]: No matter all this kind of other bullshit, he throws up as a smoke screen, as a defense mechanism that he's got to maintain this public persona.
02:27:40 --> 02:27:42 [UNKNOWN]: He's got to be able to take selfies with people.
02:27:42 --> 02:27:45 [UNKNOWN]: He's got to see what the Pope, all these things.
02:27:45 --> 02:27:49 [UNKNOWN]: That old means this means yes.
02:27:49 --> 02:27:50 [UNKNOWN]: Yes.
02:27:51 --> 02:27:51 [UNKNOWN]: Yes.
02:27:52 --> 02:27:54 [UNKNOWN]: and for him to rush through it in that way.
02:27:54 --> 02:28:00 [UNKNOWN]: It's not even rush, it's just sad the way that he's sitting there and I'm saying.
02:28:01 --> 02:28:04 [UNKNOWN]: That broke that made me, you know, I was like, oh man.
02:28:06 --> 02:28:09 [UNKNOWN]: Come on, he should be, he should have been like, yo, John, come over here, check it out.
02:28:09 --> 02:28:10 [UNKNOWN]: This is what we do.
02:28:10 --> 02:28:11 [UNKNOWN]: This is our little ritual.
02:28:11 --> 02:28:13 [UNKNOWN]: Even if he doesn't bring John over.
02:28:14 --> 02:28:14 [UNKNOWN]: Right.
02:28:14 --> 02:28:15 [UNKNOWN]: But, you know what I say?
02:28:15 --> 02:28:32 [UNKNOWN]: There's the, there's... Doc is, you know, and brightest day, Doc is like, feel the, feel the oath, which you were ready to take somebody's head off from mocking a few hours or a few days prior.
02:28:33 --> 02:28:35 [UNKNOWN]: And now you just want to get through it.
02:28:36 --> 02:28:40 [UNKNOWN]: that, that told me a lot about which on is right now.
02:28:41 --> 02:28:41 [UNKNOWN]: So good.
02:28:42 --> 02:28:42 [UNKNOWN]: That's so good.
02:28:44 --> 02:28:48 [UNKNOWN]: I love to how the ring has a finite charge.
02:28:49 --> 02:28:49 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
02:28:50 --> 02:28:52 [UNKNOWN]: And the lantern, you've got to keep track of it.
02:28:52 --> 02:28:54 [UNKNOWN]: You probably don't want anybody else.
02:28:54 --> 02:28:54 [UNKNOWN]: Getting at it.
02:28:55 --> 02:28:58 [UNKNOWN]: It's like a fylact, fylactoring, what is it?
02:28:58 --> 02:29:00 [UNKNOWN]: Like, you know, like in,
02:29:01 --> 02:29:06 [UNKNOWN]: fantasy things, you know, the super powerful lich mage, whatever.
02:29:06 --> 02:29:10 [UNKNOWN]: You've got to keep the piece of your soul hidden away or you have to keep your true name hidden.
02:29:10 --> 02:29:12 [UNKNOWN]: So nobody has power over you.
02:29:12 --> 02:29:16 [UNKNOWN]: Like there's all that kind of trophy, you know, that kind of, those kinds of tropes.
02:29:17 --> 02:29:18 [UNKNOWN]: I'm not using trope in the negative.
02:29:18 --> 02:29:18 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
02:29:19 --> 02:29:19 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
02:29:19 --> 02:29:21 [UNKNOWN]: Pattern of storytelling that we have.
02:29:23 --> 02:29:28 [UNKNOWN]: And so this lantern is a kind of, they're not OP.
02:29:28 --> 02:29:29 [UNKNOWN]: The ring doesn't give you everything.
02:29:29 --> 02:29:30 [UNKNOWN]: You can run out of charge.
02:29:30 --> 02:29:31 [UNKNOWN]: You can get shot.
02:29:32 --> 02:29:34 [UNKNOWN]: Again, great steak setting, right?
02:29:34 --> 02:29:44 [UNKNOWN]: The fact that you can get shot if you don't keep track of your lantern and your charges, your is mortal and as fragile as any other living being out here.
02:29:44 --> 02:29:49 [UNKNOWN]: So they've really created a scale in a, they've given us an XY access here to,
02:29:53 --> 02:30:06 [UNKNOWN]: of these aliens, of the man hunters, of the green lanterns, and we can, they're not just everything is everything, but there's an actual power curve here that actually means something, and that's going to have stakes.
02:30:07 --> 02:30:17 [UNKNOWN]: You know, as the stakes play out, the power curve that you've established in this world building is going to have meaning for who can do what, when and how.
02:30:19 --> 02:30:25 [UNKNOWN]: We've created a world, we've set these characters up, we've set them running now and here and they can't violate these rules.
02:30:25 --> 02:30:25 [UNKNOWN]: Right.
02:30:26 --> 02:30:28 [UNKNOWN]: I remember in the show that Shalna be named.
02:30:28 --> 02:30:35 [UNKNOWN]: There was a character that was just like, oh wait, is this now the most powerful character in the whole of the MCU for all time ever?
02:30:35 --> 02:30:37 [UNKNOWN]: Never to be seem a good.
02:30:37 --> 02:30:38 [UNKNOWN]: Right?
02:30:38 --> 02:30:38 [UNKNOWN]: Right.
02:30:40 --> 02:30:47 [UNKNOWN]: So everything is everything, there's no equivalency, there's no scale, like, okay, you're here on this.
02:30:47 --> 02:30:57 [UNKNOWN]: It's like those little posters of, you know, how big things are, you stack the statue of liberty next to the Isle Tower next to the Titanic, you know, and what is the, what's the size here?
02:30:57 --> 02:31:04 [UNKNOWN]: So we actually, they've actually created that for us through dialogue, through character, through dramatic action.
02:31:04 --> 02:31:07 [UNKNOWN]: Well, as long as that ring is powered, man.
02:31:08 --> 02:31:27 [UNKNOWN]: you are one of the most powerful beings in the universe right as long as that ring is part because once it's not powered it's just a ring just a home come at all that's it and you got to have a lantern and I can it be any lantern or does it have no you're that you're that you
02:31:29 --> 02:31:34 [UNKNOWN]: And then we get it, okay, so but we're gonna talk in in future episodes about how the lanterns work.
02:31:35 --> 02:31:40 [UNKNOWN]: So let's put a pin in that for now and go to the last and final scene.
02:31:40 --> 02:31:41 [UNKNOWN]: Good morning, Dr. Lecter.
02:31:42 --> 02:31:49 [UNKNOWN]: I mean, Sinestro, how suits up flies off to an off-world to see a foul Sinestro, a former lantern.
02:31:49 --> 02:31:52 [UNKNOWN]: He asks what Sinestro knows about man hunters.
02:31:52 --> 02:31:57 [UNKNOWN]: And Sinestro says that one would be the second biggest threat how is
02:31:58 --> 02:32:05 [UNKNOWN]: currently facing, then turns the question back on him, what do you know how about John Stewart?
02:32:06 --> 02:32:11 [UNKNOWN]: Then the episode ends with a song called Human Condition by Pretty Sick.
02:32:11 --> 02:32:21 [UNKNOWN]: has the outro music and pretty sick is now in heavy rotation on my Spotify playlist.
02:32:21 --> 02:32:28 [UNKNOWN]: I did not know that I needed some like Neil punk, you know, girl band badass, whatever.
02:32:28 --> 02:32:31 [UNKNOWN]: I don't know anything about this band pretty sick, but they are.
02:32:32 --> 02:32:34 [UNKNOWN]: This song was perfect and I was fist pumping the episode.
02:32:34 --> 02:32:37 [UNKNOWN]: I was like, yeah, baby, let's go episode three, bringing it on.
02:32:38 --> 02:32:40 [UNKNOWN]: I was just psyched at the end of this.
02:32:40 --> 02:32:47 [UNKNOWN]: The lyrics, one of the lyrics of the song, he takes me out and says, let's do business.
02:32:47 --> 02:33:00 [UNKNOWN]: He's a bad guy, but I believe in forgiveness, I want to do something that matters, takes a meeting because he likes my vision, I'm not opportunistic, no, I'm just ambitious, want to be someone that matters.
02:33:02 --> 02:33:21 [UNKNOWN]: And you know, they didn't write the song for the show and the show didn't write for the song, but like those just those words are just poetry for me for John, for how, for how meeting Sinestro, John trying to work with with how like just the whole, you know, whole mess of the characters here that we've got going on.
02:33:22 --> 02:33:24 [UNKNOWN]: Great song to end the credits.
02:33:25 --> 02:33:26 [UNKNOWN]: Where are you at with it?
02:33:26 --> 02:33:29 [UNKNOWN]: Like there's some, so no, like it works well.
02:33:29 --> 02:33:30 [UNKNOWN]: So Nestor.
02:33:30 --> 02:33:31 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, it looks amazing.
02:33:32 --> 02:33:34 [UNKNOWN]: So that's um, yeah.
02:33:35 --> 02:33:42 [UNKNOWN]: Sinestro trained how trained him not only, oh, no, he was house training.
02:33:42 --> 02:33:44 [UNKNOWN]: Okay, how was his training?
02:33:44 --> 02:33:47 [UNKNOWN]: Sinestro is his mentor.
02:33:50 --> 02:33:57 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, and how had to go against his mentor, the person he looked up to, because he was doing some bad shit.
02:33:57 --> 02:34:08 [UNKNOWN]: He was, you know, like, not genocidal shit, but he was just, uh, a fascist, okay, and he had to bring him down.
02:34:11 --> 02:34:15 [UNKNOWN]: that was a big deal for how Jordan, you know?
02:34:16 --> 02:34:20 [UNKNOWN]: Part of him has ground him down a little bit.
02:34:20 --> 02:34:21 [UNKNOWN]: Maybe.
02:34:21 --> 02:34:35 [UNKNOWN]: And their entire relationship is so acrimonious because there was a real genuine affection and respect for one another prior to that.
02:34:37 --> 02:34:38 [UNKNOWN]: I think Sinestro,
02:34:41 --> 02:34:52 [UNKNOWN]: planting the seed of suspicion about John to how much like Zoe planted those seeds, or try to plant those seeds.
02:34:52 --> 02:34:53 [UNKNOWN]: Oh, John.
02:34:53 --> 02:34:54 [UNKNOWN]: Okay.
02:34:54 --> 02:34:57 [UNKNOWN]: About how.
02:34:57 --> 02:34:59 [UNKNOWN]: How does he know about John in prison?
02:34:59 --> 02:35:00 [UNKNOWN]: Right.
02:35:01 --> 02:35:05 [UNKNOWN]: And, you know, it's interesting to see if how will
02:35:07 --> 02:35:12 [UNKNOWN]: Listen to his mentor and keep that distance.
02:35:13 --> 02:35:19 [UNKNOWN]: Oh, will he take John's olive branch and try to form that partnership that I was talking about.
02:35:20 --> 02:35:20 [UNKNOWN]: Mm-hmm.
02:35:21 --> 02:35:24 [UNKNOWN]: So that's what I'm going to look out in the series.
02:35:24 --> 02:35:25 [UNKNOWN]: Okay.
02:35:25 --> 02:35:28 [UNKNOWN]: How does how react to
02:35:29 --> 02:35:41 [UNKNOWN]: knowing that a John kept that construct going, and now his mentor, even though he's in jail, he's still sinister, is telling him, you know.
02:35:42 --> 02:35:55 [UNKNOWN]: That's not the only thing you've got to worry about is the man hunts is how much do you know about this John's story and that there's a bigger threat bigger than theirs and all the while they've been telling us that man hunders are the top they pecks threat.
02:35:56 --> 02:35:59 [UNKNOWN]: What does that mean for how how is going to view?
02:36:01 --> 02:36:03 [UNKNOWN]: and treat John going for it.
02:36:03 --> 02:36:13 [UNKNOWN]: Is this why John grows a mustache and go to him saying 10 years later, because I'll put him through some shit to grow some face in here.
02:36:13 --> 02:36:16 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, I mean, like, chill out some bad, just like me.
02:36:16 --> 02:36:25 [UNKNOWN]: You know, so yeah, this was a great way to end the episode with some expectation.
02:36:27 --> 02:36:46 [UNKNOWN]: going forward and I love how they they brought in, not just the man enters, but house at his, I don't know if house at his lowest right now, but it just feels that way to me and the person that he goes to is semester.
02:36:46 --> 02:36:47 [UNKNOWN]: He's pressed.
02:36:48 --> 02:36:49 [UNKNOWN]: He doesn't go anywhere else.
02:36:49 --> 02:36:50 [UNKNOWN]: He goes straight to semester.
02:36:50 --> 02:36:53 [UNKNOWN]: I tend to tell me what you can, what can you tell me about this?
02:36:54 --> 02:37:02 [UNKNOWN]: What he doesn't, he puts on the shoot and he's, he puts on the shoot, yes, he hasn't put on the shoot for a long.
02:37:03 --> 02:37:09 [UNKNOWN]: And do you need to shoot to fly, whatever, but he puts it on and he's hypersonic.
02:37:09 --> 02:37:11 [UNKNOWN]: There is not, he just boom.
02:37:12 --> 02:37:21 [UNKNOWN]: I'm I got to go and then I got to go talk to this guy this of all the dudes that I've ever worked I don't go I don't go to green lantern headquarters.
02:37:21 --> 02:37:32 [UNKNOWN]: I don't go to see the little blue dudes I don't go to see my buddy in the sector next door You know whatever I got to go talk to this guy Who's like who I locked up?
02:37:34 --> 02:37:36 [UNKNOWN]: What do we know about the space planet?
02:37:36 --> 02:37:39 [UNKNOWN]: Does it matter or, like, is it not?
02:37:39 --> 02:37:42 [UNKNOWN]: I don't know anything about the present planet that he's on.
02:37:42 --> 02:37:43 [UNKNOWN]: Okay.
02:37:43 --> 02:37:45 [UNKNOWN]: What a prison that he's currently on.
02:37:45 --> 02:37:47 [UNKNOWN]: Not, not necessary, because I'm not more heads.
02:37:47 --> 02:37:47 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
02:37:47 --> 02:37:49 [UNKNOWN]: Okay.
02:37:49 --> 02:37:54 [UNKNOWN]: If somebody else has an idea or they know, that'll be very happy to hear.
02:37:55 --> 02:37:55 [UNKNOWN]: Right.
02:37:55 --> 02:37:57 [UNKNOWN]: Maybe Connor's got some thoughts.
02:37:59 --> 02:38:00 [UNKNOWN]: All right, well, I think that's us.
02:38:00 --> 02:38:03 [UNKNOWN]: That's the episode any wrap-up thoughts, or we good.
02:38:04 --> 02:38:04 [UNKNOWN]: Now I'm good, man.
02:38:04 --> 02:38:08 [UNKNOWN]: I'm good with the season, season one.
02:38:08 --> 02:38:16 [UNKNOWN]: Episode one and two, have kept up the bar that I thought they were going to need.
02:38:17 --> 02:38:22 [UNKNOWN]: And yeah, anticipating the episode three.
02:38:23 --> 02:38:24 [UNKNOWN]: Psyched, ready for it.
02:38:27 --> 02:38:34 [UNKNOWN]: How's the dragon was kind of work, you know, it's been a way, I know what you mean.
02:38:34 --> 02:38:41 [UNKNOWN]: There's lore, right, characters are called, you know, it's kind of heavy in some ways.
02:38:43 --> 02:38:50 [UNKNOWN]: And I'm not saying that this is any less complex, but I don't feel like I'm having to work to cover the show.
02:38:50 --> 02:38:51 [UNKNOWN]: You know what I'm saying?
02:38:51 --> 02:38:53 [UNKNOWN]: I'm like, I'm just flowing.
02:38:53 --> 02:38:59 [UNKNOWN]: I wanna get to my, when I do my breakdowns in second watch, like I wanna do it.
02:38:59 --> 02:39:00 [UNKNOWN]: It's not like a laborious.
02:39:00 --> 02:39:03 [UNKNOWN]: You know what it is to me, I think.
02:39:05 --> 02:39:09 [UNKNOWN]: The game of thrones, I, you know, that universe.
02:39:11 --> 02:39:21 [UNKNOWN]: has so many people who are really down to the nitty-gritty of detail.
02:39:22 --> 02:39:22 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
02:39:22 --> 02:39:26 [UNKNOWN]: Star Wars Tolkien, like there's these worlds that our people are doing.
02:39:26 --> 02:39:29 [UNKNOWN]: Martin has insane marks in the same class.
02:39:29 --> 02:39:30 [UNKNOWN]: Same class as those.
02:39:31 --> 02:39:31 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
02:39:31 --> 02:39:32 [UNKNOWN]: And I think comic books.
02:39:33 --> 02:39:42 [UNKNOWN]: because of the nature of the story telling where you could have one thing for 10 years, for five years, for 20 years.
02:39:43 --> 02:39:43 [UNKNOWN]: And then change it up.
02:39:43 --> 02:39:54 [UNKNOWN]: You writer or the comic book company decides they want to go in a new direction and everything that you knew for the last 10 years, as long.
02:39:55 --> 02:39:56 [UNKNOWN]: They just change it straight up.
02:39:57 --> 02:39:57 [UNKNOWN]: Right, so I think that
02:39:58 --> 02:40:13 [UNKNOWN]: makes it for a less stressful viewing and less interesting to talk about because the nature of the medium is such that changes are part of it.
02:40:15 --> 02:40:21 [UNKNOWN]: And what was real on page in 1972,
02:40:24 --> 02:40:27 [UNKNOWN]: 1982, 92, 2002, is not necessarily what's on page.
02:40:34 --> 02:40:38 [UNKNOWN]: in 2026, and it doesn't take away from those stories.
02:40:39 --> 02:40:44 [UNKNOWN]: It's just a new direction, a new story, a new way to tell the stories of these characters.
02:40:44 --> 02:40:46 [UNKNOWN]: You don't have that with Martin.
02:40:48 --> 02:40:52 [UNKNOWN]: And we have to be aware of that.
02:40:52 --> 02:40:55 [UNKNOWN]: We're talking about that.
02:40:56 --> 02:40:56 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
02:40:57 --> 02:40:57 [UNKNOWN]: IP.
02:40:58 --> 02:40:59 [UNKNOWN]: It's different.
02:40:59 --> 02:41:00 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah, yeah.
02:41:01 --> 02:41:02 [UNKNOWN]: Well, I'm loving it.
02:41:03 --> 02:41:07 [UNKNOWN]: So I'm like, and, uh, and I love House of the Dragon.

02:41:13 --> 02:41:13 [UNKNOWN]: It is.
02:41:13 --> 02:41:14 [UNKNOWN]: It is.
02:41:14 --> 02:41:15 [UNKNOWN]: It's different level of engagement.
