00:17 --> 00:22 [SPEAKER_03]: Welcome to the lorehounds your guides to beacon launching backup plans.
00:23 --> 00:26 [SPEAKER_03]: I'm John and I was born for betrayal, but not really.
00:27 --> 00:41 [SPEAKER_02]: And I'm Alicia here to turn myself in for a discussion of all systems read the penultimate episode of Apple TV plus is murder about season one because we were just saying off the mic that there are damn well better PSC's into.
00:42 --> 00:44 [SPEAKER_03]: I would love to see a season two.
00:45 --> 00:48 [SPEAKER_03]: I don't know what's coming next because I haven't read ahead in the books.
00:49 --> 00:51 [SPEAKER_03]: So it's all going to be surprising.
00:51 --> 00:52 [SPEAKER_03]: I think I'm going to leave it that way.
00:52 --> 00:54 [SPEAKER_03]: It seems like it's going to be a fun show to just watch as it goes.
00:55 --> 01:04 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it sounds like they might end up mixing a couple books together for the next season anyway, which makes sense for reasons that won't discuss for spoilers.
01:04 --> 01:06 [SPEAKER_02]: But I so far have only read the first two books.
01:08 --> 01:11 [SPEAKER_03]: All right, well, I am excited to talk about this with you.
01:11 --> 01:15 [SPEAKER_03]: Of course, spoilers for the first nine episodes, but not wants to finale yet.
01:15 --> 01:19 [SPEAKER_03]: So stick around for that coverage next week.
01:19 --> 01:31 [SPEAKER_03]: And by the way, the finale of this show, this is a general apple thing that they do finale for this show is airing the same night as the premiere of Foundations, these three, which we're also doing full coverage up.
01:31 --> 01:35 [SPEAKER_03]: So check, stay on the feed if you want to, if you want to keep on the apple sci-fi trade.
01:36 --> 01:37 [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, excellent.
01:37 --> 01:40 [SPEAKER_02]: I'm looking forward to you and Marilyn talking about foundation.
01:40 --> 01:43 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I can give my general thoughts now.
01:43 --> 01:45 [SPEAKER_03]: So I'll just say it's very good.
01:45 --> 01:46 [SPEAKER_03]: It's very, very good.
01:46 --> 01:48 [SPEAKER_03]: I'm really enjoying the third season.
01:49 --> 01:51 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'm looking forward to it.
01:51 --> 01:54 [SPEAKER_02]: They did the promo with the Mule character with the new casting.
01:54 --> 01:55 [SPEAKER_02]: What's his face from?
01:56 --> 01:58 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I can never remember his name.
01:58 --> 01:59 [SPEAKER_03]: It's like pilau something.
02:00 --> 02:02 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he's Scandinavian anyway.
02:04 --> 02:09 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'm definitely intrigued by this chaotic character and looking forward to this season.
02:09 --> 02:11 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you're going to be a lot of fun.
02:13 --> 02:15 [SPEAKER_03]: So your hot takes Alicia?
02:16 --> 02:20 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, well, first of all, we got an extra seven minutes as episodes.
02:20 --> 02:23 [SPEAKER_02]: So thank you to the TV gods.
02:23 --> 02:25 [SPEAKER_02]: This one was thirty minutes long.
02:27 --> 02:44 [SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, it was directed again by Rosanne Leang and I noticed each of them is directed like each there's four different directors it seems working on the season each doing or no five I guess each doing two episodes each so I'm wondering I think finale will probably be ever get one of the whites is who hasn't done to yet
02:45 --> 02:50 [SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, each week I keep saying maybe it's my favorite and this one maybe it's my favorite again.
02:50 --> 03:00 [SPEAKER_02]: We're back very much on the book a lot of the dialogue and situations were pulled directly from the book, but they still continued to add
03:01 --> 03:09 [SPEAKER_02]: extra around it to flesh it out to flesh out the character relationships and the plot mechanics and things like that.
03:10 --> 03:12 [SPEAKER_02]: I loved the dark humor of this episode.
03:12 --> 03:14 [SPEAKER_02]: It was so dark, so deliciously dark.
03:16 --> 03:30 [SPEAKER_02]: Great twists were the of sanctuary moon and an emotional, genuinely emotional ending, even though I know pretty much more or less what's coming next week, they hit me in the feels.
03:30 --> 03:31 [SPEAKER_02]: What about you?
03:31 --> 03:32 [SPEAKER_03]: I thought it was great.
03:32 --> 03:36 [SPEAKER_03]: I thought that they really sold like who is murderbopbetraying at what?
03:38 --> 03:40 [SPEAKER_03]: I honestly even me having read the book.
03:40 --> 03:43 [SPEAKER_03]: I was like, I'm not so sure what angle he's playing here.
03:44 --> 03:49 [SPEAKER_03]: I did, you know, you talk about the adaptation and its quality and its relation to the books.
03:49 --> 03:53 [SPEAKER_03]: I did recently listen to some of the imaginary worlds interview with
03:54 --> 04:02 [SPEAKER_03]: And I thought that that was really great interview on the process and how the show runners were really receptive to like, oh, well, we want to cut a character.
04:02 --> 04:02 [SPEAKER_03]: Can we cut this one?
04:02 --> 04:05 [SPEAKER_03]: She goes, no, cut that one instead and they do that.
04:06 --> 04:11 [SPEAKER_03]: So I think that's why it's so, you know, it does feel so faithful.
04:11 --> 04:13 [SPEAKER_03]: It does feel so true to the tone of the series.
04:14 --> 04:14 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
04:15 --> 04:21 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it sounds like they really got the creative people involved.
04:21 --> 04:27 [SPEAKER_02]: Like it sounds like Alexander Skarskar was also quite involved in design decisions and decisions about the character.
04:27 --> 04:38 [SPEAKER_02]: And I'm always very heartened when the creator, when the writer of the books is involved in the adaptation so much, you know?
04:38 --> 04:38 [SPEAKER_03]: Right.
04:39 --> 04:46 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we saw this, that's why I think certain adaptations have been more successful than others.
04:46 --> 04:47 [SPEAKER_03]: Agreed.
04:47 --> 04:47 [SPEAKER_03]: Agreed.
04:47 --> 04:54 [SPEAKER_03]: And we see, you know, the era of Game of Thrones where George Martin was involved was much better than the era where he stepped back.
04:55 --> 04:58 [SPEAKER_02]: I was avoiding calling out to House of the Dragon, but there we go.
04:59 --> 04:59 [SPEAKER_03]: I'll call it out.
04:59 --> 04:59 [SPEAKER_03]: It's fine.
05:00 --> 05:00 [SPEAKER_02]: It's fine.
05:02 --> 05:05 [SPEAKER_02]: Well, I think so far, so good.
05:06 --> 05:07 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think this is great.
05:08 --> 05:09 [SPEAKER_03]: So it was so nice.
05:09 --> 05:12 [SPEAKER_03]: I also had to hear Martha Wells talk about how excited she was just as he heard characters come to life.
05:12 --> 05:15 [SPEAKER_03]: Like it feels like this is really a labor of love this show.
05:15 --> 05:16 [SPEAKER_02]: For sure, for sure.
05:16 --> 05:30 [SPEAKER_02]: And as I keep saying, I'm just so glad to see this kind of these kind of dynamics represented on screen where you know, you show people are human and they have dramas, but you can still have dramas and be as good to each other as possible.
05:30 --> 05:33 [SPEAKER_02]: And that's in remember that you're dealing with other humans.
05:34 --> 05:34 [SPEAKER_02]: Right.
05:34 --> 05:35 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
05:35 --> 05:38 [SPEAKER_02]: And it makes you stronger in the end.
05:38 --> 05:39 [SPEAKER_02]: It's what we'll talk about in this episode.
05:40 --> 05:40 [SPEAKER_03]: Right.
05:40 --> 05:40 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
05:41 --> 05:41 [SPEAKER_03]: And honestly, I
05:43 --> 05:46 [SPEAKER_03]: I did enjoy, I do enjoy about the show that it is still a comedy.
05:46 --> 05:48 [SPEAKER_03]: Like, there's drum in there, but it is still a comedy.
05:49 --> 05:53 [SPEAKER_03]: And so like, when you have murderbot diving to escape the explosion, then everyone can fantastic, right?
05:54 --> 05:56 [SPEAKER_02]: The last hit bouncing.
05:56 --> 06:03 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, the last words of like, did you make two thousand nine hundred whatever episodes?
06:05 --> 06:07 [SPEAKER_01]: If those are my last words, I stand by it.
06:07 --> 06:08 [SPEAKER_03]: Right, right.
06:08 --> 06:13 [SPEAKER_03]: I feel like Alicia, you would say that with like, save wheel of time.
06:16 --> 06:17 [SPEAKER_01]: Save what calm.
06:18 --> 06:20 [SPEAKER_01]: There's my last words I stand by.
06:20 --> 06:25 [SPEAKER_03]: Well, why don't we get right into this episode?
06:25 --> 06:27 [SPEAKER_03]: You've got a lovely outline for us today as usual.
06:27 --> 06:28 [SPEAKER_03]: So thank you for doing that.
06:30 --> 06:30 [SPEAKER_03]: Let's do it.
06:31 --> 06:38 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, since it's, I pretty much split it into two halves since it was just like, it wasn't different plot lines.
06:38 --> 06:40 [SPEAKER_02]: It was just one big action set piece.
06:41 --> 06:43 [SPEAKER_02]: So I thought maybe I could read the purple and you could read the green.
06:43 --> 06:44 [SPEAKER_02]: Sure.
06:44 --> 06:47 [SPEAKER_02]: Okay, so we start with Murderbot's mystery plan.
06:47 --> 06:53 [SPEAKER_02]: The preservation ox team accepts great Chris's invitation to parlay and heads to the meeting point expecting a trap.
06:54 --> 07:05 [SPEAKER_02]: Murderbot leaves alone to meet with great Chris pretending to have turned on its humans, throwing the head of the crushed sec unit preservation ox fought at the dealt fall base at their feet and saying it's garot them.
07:06 --> 07:08 [SPEAKER_03]: Can I just say before we move on from that?
07:09 --> 07:10 [SPEAKER_03]: I think I've been a forget it if I don't.
07:11 --> 07:22 [SPEAKER_03]: This actually is a deeper moment than I think I realize it first because the don't fall people would never have asked the second to lower their masks.
07:23 --> 07:24 [SPEAKER_03]: And that's why this works.
07:24 --> 07:28 [SPEAKER_03]: Like if they had any way humanized their second, this wouldn't be one.
07:28 --> 07:29 [SPEAKER_02]: Exactly.
07:29 --> 07:29 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
07:30 --> 07:42 [SPEAKER_03]: And this is, I think it's really interesting when shows sort of emphasize the advantages of empathy instead of how it leaves you vulnerable, how it be a power, how it could be a tool.
07:42 --> 07:43 [SPEAKER_03]: And this really did that for me.
07:44 --> 07:45 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, completely agree.
07:47 --> 07:55 [SPEAKER_03]: Meanwhile, Pinley and Gerothin sneak into the woods with a drone they intend to use to hack into Gray Chris's hub system and launch their beacon to call for help.
07:56 --> 08:00 [SPEAKER_03]: Murderbot just needs to trick Gray Chris into giving up their access codes.
08:01 --> 08:05 [SPEAKER_03]: To do so, it pretends to be betraying their current activities as well.
08:07 --> 08:15 [SPEAKER_02]: Rotty, Arata, and Baradwaj, handle tech operations from back at the preservation ox, habitat, and menso holds down the force on the hopper.
08:16 --> 08:23 [SPEAKER_02]: They are understandably reluctant to let the Great Chris into their system, but in the end, they trust murder bots enough to go through with the ruse.
08:24 --> 08:27 [SPEAKER_02]: So, yeah, lots of murder bot lying this episode.
08:27 --> 08:28 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
08:30 --> 08:33 [SPEAKER_03]: And they kind of draw attention to that right away, right?
08:34 --> 08:36 [SPEAKER_03]: He gives him a lie out of kindness, right?
08:36 --> 08:37 [SPEAKER_03]: He doesn't want to make them freak out.
08:38 --> 08:38 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
08:39 --> 08:48 [SPEAKER_03]: And I think Bird about was also lying to itself at that point because, okay, yeah, probably is partially to not like hamper their performance.
08:49 --> 08:53 [SPEAKER_03]: But when he goes, I don't know why I lied.
08:54 --> 08:55 [SPEAKER_03]: He lied to them.
08:56 --> 09:01 [SPEAKER_03]: It lied to them because it was trying to make them feel better because it had empathy.
09:01 --> 09:06 [SPEAKER_03]: And even later, Murderbot says, I've been infected with an empathy mess, right?
09:07 --> 09:20 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I love also, you know, you speak in the comedic timing how they handled this part at the beginning, like you said, where they're talking about men says like, you perform probability calculations, right?
09:21 --> 09:25 [SPEAKER_02]: And murder rods thinks constantly says that's a common misconception.
09:25 --> 09:28 [SPEAKER_02]: And then about why did you lie?
09:28 --> 09:29 [SPEAKER_02]: So we would number, underperform.
09:31 --> 09:32 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he says out loud.
09:32 --> 09:34 [SPEAKER_02]: That's not why things that was why.
09:34 --> 09:34 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
09:37 --> 09:40 [SPEAKER_02]: But then, as later, as usual, the humans were being hot messes, that's why I lied to them.
09:40 --> 09:46 [SPEAKER_02]: So I do think it's to protect them from themselves, but also, yeah, to protect their feelings.
09:46 --> 09:51 [SPEAKER_02]: And I guess there is a calculation there where people perform better when they have more hope.
09:51 --> 09:52 [SPEAKER_03]: Right.
09:52 --> 09:53 [SPEAKER_03]: I think that's true, too.
09:53 --> 09:58 [SPEAKER_03]: You're going to give that last little like half a percent of effort.
09:59 --> 09:59 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
09:59 --> 09:59 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
10:01 --> 10:05 [SPEAKER_02]: But I do like that they've kept murderbot as an unreliable narrator in general.
10:05 --> 10:09 [SPEAKER_02]: It's just it's a literary device that I enjoy in general.
10:09 --> 10:18 [SPEAKER_02]: And I think murderbot is a great one because it's not like we it's clear especially by the end of the episode that murderbot is not is well-meaning.
10:19 --> 10:22 [SPEAKER_02]: But then yeah, and as you said, there's different layers.
10:22 --> 10:26 [SPEAKER_02]: Like murderbot's lying to the rest of the team, but murderbot's also lying to itself a lot at the time.
10:27 --> 10:27 [SPEAKER_03]: Right.
10:27 --> 10:28 [SPEAKER_03]: Absolutely.
10:29 --> 10:37 [SPEAKER_03]: Murderbot is, uh, it's interesting because, you know, I think one of my character flaws is that I, I distract myself with, with media, right?
10:38 --> 10:42 [SPEAKER_03]: Like I will avoid thinking about a problem by looking at fictional problems.
10:42 --> 10:45 [SPEAKER_03]: And so that, that has always felt of a piece with murderbot.
10:46 --> 10:48 [SPEAKER_03]: You know, that's, that's exactly murderbot.
10:48 --> 10:55 [SPEAKER_03]: But it's really interesting to watch later on, and I'm sure we'll talk about this later on in the second section, but murderbot using those distractions as a weapon.
10:56 --> 10:56 [SPEAKER_02]: Right.
10:57 --> 10:57 [SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
10:57 --> 10:58 [SPEAKER_02]: Right.
10:58 --> 11:00 [SPEAKER_03]: It's a boon instead of a week press.
11:00 --> 11:00 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
11:01 --> 11:01 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
11:02 --> 11:02 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
11:02 --> 11:12 [SPEAKER_02]: I think murder bots also learning to recognize similarities and exploit them like that great exchange or murder bots has digger off in.
11:12 --> 11:15 [SPEAKER_02]: I noticed you have an issue with eye contact and that's Mark.
11:15 --> 11:16 [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, that's Mark.
11:17 --> 11:19 [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, got him.
11:19 --> 11:20 [SPEAKER_02]: Got him.
11:21 --> 11:21 [SPEAKER_02]: Oh.
11:23 --> 11:35 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think, yeah, and we also see, by the way, murderbots still secretly taking all of its best ideas from the media watches, like hacking the great Chris's obsessive system, secretly another idea from Sanctuary Moon.
11:36 --> 11:47 [SPEAKER_02]: But I guess I think one thing that they make a lot clearer in the books that I'm not sure if it's as clear on the show is how the different feeds work for communication.
11:48 --> 11:55 [SPEAKER_02]: So basically, if you are not on a feed, like that's why there's a private feed.
11:55 --> 12:12 [SPEAKER_02]: If you're not on that feed, you cannot hear at the other person saying, and I think that's tougher to do in a TV show because I noticed especially in the second book at something where they emphasize, if a human is speaking on a private feed, it's like they're mouthing the words inside their mouth, like you can see their jaw moving, but you can't tell what they're saying.
12:13 --> 12:19 [SPEAKER_02]: Um, but I think, you know, constructs like murderbot or maybe even augmented human psychwrath and don't have to do that at all.
12:19 --> 12:23 [SPEAKER_02]: They just send the information, you know, right.
12:23 --> 12:30 [SPEAKER_03]: And in in the books, I remember men says always like typing to to murderbot to like just on a private channel.
12:30 --> 12:39 [SPEAKER_03]: Uh, and and that's that's so that she could have more private conversations and and like it look be real with me murderbot.
12:39 --> 12:41 [SPEAKER_03]: Don't don't sugarcoat it to me at least.
12:42 --> 12:43 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, exactly.
12:43 --> 12:55 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and I think, you know, necessarily in the show because it's a visual media and they want it to make you have to be able to hear what the people are saying, but that can make it perhaps more confusing to some people, so hopefully that clarifies.
12:57 --> 13:00 [SPEAKER_02]: One other thing that they couldn't quite do in the show like in the books is in the books.
13:01 --> 13:11 [SPEAKER_02]: Murderbot will have like a little cluster of drones flying with it when it, you know, does troll or does these different things?
13:11 --> 13:14 [SPEAKER_02]: I understand that's more expensive to do in the show.
13:14 --> 13:25 [SPEAKER_02]: You know, we were just saying we think it's on the cheap side, which is good for renewing it, but not good for having a pack of drones following Murderbot around us.
13:25 --> 13:26 [SPEAKER_02]: I know some people hope to see.
13:28 --> 13:29 [SPEAKER_02]: But we got some drone action this episode.
13:30 --> 13:34 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, we did get some good action and it with drones especially.
13:34 --> 13:42 [SPEAKER_03]: I liked I like the improvised drone that pinlies seem to be setting up, but it seemed it seemed to be like taped together and I enjoyed that aspect.
13:45 --> 13:51 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and I like how they're playing on, um, costuming also from from the books.
13:51 --> 14:04 [SPEAKER_02]: So like in the books, great Chris are, you can tell by their, um, by their outfits and their environments suits they call them that they are divided into three groups blue, green, and yellow.
14:05 --> 14:05 [SPEAKER_02]: And
14:06 --> 14:35 [SPEAKER_02]: In the show they're all wearing kind of gray suits which I guess gray Chris I get it right, but each of them has accents in one of those three colors So I in the second when we talk through the second part I labeled them the three who are constantly talking each have a different color Blue leader was the leader in the in the books and was called blue leader and then there's also the red head is wearing green so she's green leader and the guy who insulted Sanctuary moon is wearing yellow
14:36 --> 14:36 [SPEAKER_02]: yellow there.
14:37 --> 14:38 [SPEAKER_03]: Well, none of them do very well here.
14:39 --> 14:40 [SPEAKER_02]: No, no, good.
14:42 --> 14:46 [SPEAKER_03]: I really loved the way that Murderbot was playing them all against each other though, right?
14:46 --> 14:53 [SPEAKER_03]: Like really just like throwing all of them for a loop with this governor module stuff and just making them feel like they won.
14:54 --> 14:54 [SPEAKER_02]: Right.
14:55 --> 14:55 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
14:56 --> 15:01 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, they attempted to hack murderbots, governor module again.
15:01 --> 15:08 [SPEAKER_02]: And then that was like a satisfying moment where a leg throw out to you was still fanboying back at the base.
15:08 --> 15:10 [SPEAKER_02]: I don't recommend that course of action.
15:10 --> 15:11 [SPEAKER_02]: That was pretty cool.
15:11 --> 15:13 [SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to like shut up, Brody.
15:13 --> 15:16 [SPEAKER_03]: We want to get this right now.
15:17 --> 15:29 [SPEAKER_02]: That whole exchange with the governor module from the whole thing, like I felt like a mild tickle to assume you're trying to install another combat override module and send me back to kill them.
15:30 --> 15:33 [SPEAKER_02]: All that stuff is word for word from the book.
15:34 --> 15:37 [SPEAKER_02]: Only the major difference is in the book version when he
15:38 --> 15:55 [SPEAKER_02]: when it's sorry it says I don't recommend that course of action it raises its arms and shows its arm guns to them and that's how it reveals that it's government modules hacked but I guess that's again another special effects shot that saves a money yeah yeah that's right
15:57 --> 16:07 [SPEAKER_03]: I was interested to just bring back to the Martha Wells thing, the way that she said, it was almost more effective in the show to be able to, because people blow his question, like, what's Murderbot's secret gender?
16:07 --> 16:11 [SPEAKER_03]: And she said, I'm glad that they showed Murderbot's full body, right?
16:11 --> 16:12 [SPEAKER_03]: No belly button.
16:12 --> 16:15 [SPEAKER_03]: And you got the, you know, Kendall bottom.
16:16 --> 16:18 [SPEAKER_03]: And she, it's really interesting.
16:19 --> 16:22 [SPEAKER_03]: I think they chose their moments to use special effects really well.
16:22 --> 16:22 [SPEAKER_02]: Right.
16:23 --> 16:23 [SPEAKER_02]: He's right.
16:24 --> 16:24 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
16:24 --> 16:32 [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, that was a more important storytelling moment than, and we've seen the armguards before, you know, we don't need to see them right now.
16:32 --> 16:32 [SPEAKER_03]: Right.
16:33 --> 16:33 [SPEAKER_03]: Exactly.
16:34 --> 16:34 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
16:36 --> 16:36 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
16:36 --> 16:41 [SPEAKER_02]: But the Great Chris, second unit, so rude won't even say hi back to murder about we never hear word from them.
16:43 --> 16:43 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, really.
16:43 --> 16:46 [SPEAKER_03]: Again, they are so dehumanized, right?
16:46 --> 16:47 [SPEAKER_03]: Because you don't even see their faces.
16:48 --> 16:50 [SPEAKER_03]: They wouldn't recognize the head of one of their secunits.
16:50 --> 16:51 [SPEAKER_03]: If it didn't.
16:52 --> 16:52 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
16:52 --> 16:53 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
16:53 --> 16:57 [SPEAKER_02]: So can we ask, how long has that had just been like sitting in the hold?
16:58 --> 17:02 [SPEAKER_02]: Because it looked less rotten than I would expect to be honest.
17:03 --> 17:05 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, like how is because it is organic flesh, right?
17:05 --> 17:07 [SPEAKER_03]: So like why isn't it rotting?
17:08 --> 17:09 [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
17:09 --> 17:09 [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
17:10 --> 17:10 [SPEAKER_03]: I don't know.
17:10 --> 17:13 [SPEAKER_03]: Maybe murderbot like put it in the fridge and was like, ah, you know, maybe we'll need this later.
17:13 --> 17:18 [SPEAKER_02]: No, now I just keep thinking of anyone who's seen twenty-eight years later.
17:18 --> 17:21 [SPEAKER_02]: I need very fine character to come in and take care of it.
17:21 --> 17:21 [SPEAKER_02]: Anyway.
17:24 --> 17:29 [SPEAKER_02]: So, yeah, do you think that's murderbot?
17:29 --> 17:33 [SPEAKER_02]: Pretending the severed head is Garathan's head.
17:33 --> 17:45 [SPEAKER_02]: Is that, and call in saying Garathan is the only member of the team that understood the threat it posed with the Hacks governor module is that an insult or a compliment to Garathan.
17:47 --> 17:49 [SPEAKER_03]: I think a compliment honestly.
17:49 --> 17:51 [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, Garatha was right, right?
17:51 --> 17:56 [SPEAKER_03]: Like objectively a hacked governor module is going to make this murder about a threat.
17:57 --> 18:01 [SPEAKER_03]: The same way that a human is a threat or like someone's unpredictable and not controlled.
18:05 --> 18:14 [SPEAKER_03]: Again, if you got rid of the first law, that's why people freak out in the asthma books when you're questioning, can the first law be broken because these things are more powerful than you.
18:14 --> 18:20 [SPEAKER_03]: And if they can get past their abhorrence of hurting you, then you're done for.
18:21 --> 18:33 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, yeah, I think it's a compliment in the sense of growth and it's the only threat to murder about there, but then also saying growth and is this rotting head.
18:35 --> 18:41 [SPEAKER_02]: Although speaking of rotting, are you glad that growth and was using a cane and had a limp this after the surgery last week?
18:42 --> 18:45 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, because I didn't understand what was happening last episode.
18:45 --> 18:47 [SPEAKER_03]: Why did they kind of skip that last episode?
18:47 --> 18:47 [SPEAKER_03]: That's what's confusing.
18:47 --> 18:51 [SPEAKER_03]: Maybe they reordered some things, but that doesn't make sense to me either.
18:51 --> 18:52 [SPEAKER_03]: So I'll just be quiet.
18:52 --> 18:56 [SPEAKER_02]: He didn't walk around that much after that last episode because they were just at the habitat.
18:57 --> 18:57 [SPEAKER_03]: That's true.
18:58 --> 18:58 [SPEAKER_03]: That's true.
19:00 --> 19:01 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
19:01 --> 19:05 [SPEAKER_02]: Garothan's definitely upset that Mensa keeps putting herself at risk.
19:05 --> 19:08 [SPEAKER_02]: And then he seems totally thrown when pinley responds.
19:08 --> 19:10 [SPEAKER_02]: It's so hot.
19:11 --> 19:12 [SPEAKER_02]: And he's like, yeah, very frustrating.
19:13 --> 19:14 [SPEAKER_02]: And hot.
19:16 --> 19:20 [SPEAKER_03]: I like that he kind of was given a permission structure to say openly what he feels.
19:21 --> 19:21 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
19:22 --> 19:23 [SPEAKER_02]: Why can't you love me?
19:23 --> 19:24 [SPEAKER_02]: Oh.
19:24 --> 19:26 [SPEAKER_03]: No, gosh, poor Garothan.
19:27 --> 19:27 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
19:29 --> 19:35 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and then Murderbot says it wants to be taken back with Great Chris, but listed as destroyed in the inventory.
19:36 --> 19:46 [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, if Great Chris could be trusted at all, which obviously, the green leader says, it's just one bot, we can dispatch it later.
19:46 --> 19:55 [SPEAKER_02]: So obviously, it can't be trusted, but if they could be trusted, would that be the best for Murderbot to be listed as destroyed and let go?
19:56 --> 20:03 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, maybe, I mean, you'll still have to worry about, I'm sure they have like, identification documents, but maybe murderbuck and Ford's them once murderbuck is out.
20:04 --> 20:13 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but I still feel like personally, and obviously I have a bias, I feel like murderbuck is better with preservation ox than on it.
20:13 --> 20:13 [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah.
20:14 --> 20:20 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think murderbuck needs, you know, at the end of this episode, I loved my clients are the best clients.
20:20 --> 20:21 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
20:21 --> 20:21 [SPEAKER_02]: Oh.
20:22 --> 20:28 [SPEAKER_02]: In the books, Murderbot says at one point, men says my favorite human, and I feel like this is the show equivalent to that.
20:29 --> 20:30 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
20:31 --> 20:32 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
20:32 --> 20:35 [SPEAKER_02]: Murderbot, I've killed two of your tech units single-handedly.
20:35 --> 20:37 [SPEAKER_02]: Okay, they beat the crap out of me, and I got lucky.
20:40 --> 20:41 [SPEAKER_02]: Murderbot never changed.
20:42 --> 20:46 [SPEAKER_03]: I guess this is the second time that Murderbot got to use a sanctuary moon as a weapon, right?
20:46 --> 20:48 [SPEAKER_03]: Because the first time did the same thing.
20:49 --> 20:53 [SPEAKER_03]: I forgot about that, not the same exact thing, but like, didn't, didn't matter about like projected in that fight.
20:55 --> 21:00 [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, um, I'm saying the, uh, saying the, um, yeah, yeah, yeah song.
21:00 --> 21:03 [SPEAKER_03]: I thought I, I was like, there was something with sanctuary moon in that fight.
21:04 --> 21:05 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, saying that theme song.
21:06 --> 21:12 [SPEAKER_02]: And then it was, um, because it was confused and it was picturing itself in sanctuary moon.
21:13 --> 21:13 [SPEAKER_02]: Right.
21:14 --> 21:14 [SPEAKER_03]: Right.
21:16 --> 21:16 [SPEAKER_03]: All right.
21:16 --> 21:18 [SPEAKER_03]: Well, you ready to take a break before we finish this episode?
21:19 --> 21:20 [SPEAKER_02]: Alright, let's do that.
21:35 --> 21:35 [SPEAKER_03]: We're back.
21:36 --> 21:37 [SPEAKER_03]: Ready to kick it off?
21:38 --> 21:40 [SPEAKER_02]: Okay, so phase two hits a hitch.
21:40 --> 21:43 [SPEAKER_02]: This is a long one because it's all the action.
21:44 --> 21:46 [SPEAKER_02]: Phase one of the secret plan goes off without a hitch.
21:46 --> 21:56 [SPEAKER_02]: Giroth and gets the code's gray-christ changes murder bots official status in the system to destroy and Giroth and impinently have the drone lined up to launch the gray-christ beacon.
21:56 --> 21:59 [SPEAKER_02]: But then, murder bot seems to really turn on the team again.
21:59 --> 22:05 [SPEAKER_02]: It tells gray-christ that its clients are trying to trigger their beacon manually and are at the launch pad right now.
22:06 --> 22:15 [SPEAKER_02]: Its plan is to get great Chris to investigate the beacon and be killed by the launch explosion when it's set off, even though murderbots as their hostage would be killed as well.
22:16 --> 22:24 [SPEAKER_03]: And then, as all the pieces of this new plan fall into place, a bird flies into the drone, knocking it out and all communication between the team.
22:24 --> 22:32 [SPEAKER_03]: Open Lee and Gorothin can't warn more murderbot that the beacon won't launch, so they haul asked to the great Chris base to launch it from there instead.
22:32 --> 22:37 [SPEAKER_03]: But Mensa, back on the hopper and also cut off from communication has a better plan.
22:37 --> 22:39 [SPEAKER_03]: She takes off in the hopper.
22:40 --> 22:47 [SPEAKER_02]: Murderbought stalls until it expects the beacon to go off, then runs and dives for cover, and is unpleasantly surprised when nothing happens.
22:47 --> 23:02 [SPEAKER_02]: Luckily, as Great Chris is trying to force Murderbought, which they now know was lying, onto their hopper to do horrible things to it, Mensa arrives in the preservation ox hopper to parlay herself, as a planetary admin for preservation alliance.
23:02 --> 23:06 [SPEAKER_02]: She tells them she knows that they are there to exploit the alien remnant.
23:07 --> 23:11 [SPEAKER_02]: She says she will give them the data they want an exchange for murderbot back.
23:11 --> 23:13 [SPEAKER_02]: Baffle does everyone is by this request.
23:14 --> 23:17 [SPEAKER_02]: Blue leader says they'll just torture the information out of her instead.
23:18 --> 23:22 [SPEAKER_03]: Murderbot goes a little too ham volunteering the torture her instead.
23:22 --> 23:27 [SPEAKER_03]: And gray Chris's yellow leader recognizes it's been quoting sanctuary moon all day.
23:29 --> 23:38 [SPEAKER_03]: After suffering insults to its favorite show, Murderbot fights gray Chris and using yellow leader as a human shield to prevent their secumits from firing.
23:38 --> 23:43 [SPEAKER_03]: Until the human green leader accidentally takes yellow leader out with some friendly fire instead.
23:44 --> 23:52 [SPEAKER_03]: But when green leader tries to steal their hopper and leave the rest behind, blue leader takes her out and turns and then trades fire with Mensa.
23:53 --> 23:58 [SPEAKER_03]: as a gray-christ secunitries to kill murderbot murderbot confuses it with a flood of media and shoots it.
23:59 --> 24:05 [SPEAKER_02]: Just then the beacon launches, taking out blue leader, the secunits and their hopper in the explosion.
24:05 --> 24:09 [SPEAKER_02]: Murderbot jumps off a cliff with Mensa using its body to break her fall.
24:10 --> 24:15 [SPEAKER_02]: Mensa survives and the team celebrates with a change of sadness as murderbot goes dark.
24:16 --> 24:23 [SPEAKER_02]: So, yes, first of all, this is why we need multiple drones, but I don't see folks redundancy.
24:23 --> 24:27 [SPEAKER_02]: But like you said, it looked like Pinley was taping that one together, so I guess they were.
24:28 --> 24:36 [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, did they just not have drones with them for some reason or did Great Chris take them so they couldn't know.
24:37 --> 24:38 [SPEAKER_03]: That's a good question.
24:38 --> 24:42 [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I guess you could just say it's there as a plot device, right?
24:43 --> 24:44 [SPEAKER_03]: Like the fact that they had one less drone.
24:44 --> 24:45 [SPEAKER_02]: Right.
24:45 --> 24:50 [SPEAKER_03]: Also arguably couldn't they just use murderbot as the drone basically like they just need a piece of tech in there.
24:50 --> 24:53 [SPEAKER_02]: I guess you need something in the air.
24:54 --> 24:54 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
24:54 --> 24:54 [SPEAKER_03]: Maybe.
24:57 --> 24:58 [SPEAKER_03]: who knows.
24:58 --> 25:02 [SPEAKER_03]: But I mean, this whole action sequence was great, right?
25:02 --> 25:06 [SPEAKER_03]: Like, I really enjoyed all of the, the back and forth with Mensa.
25:06 --> 25:07 [SPEAKER_03]: I enjoyed the way.
25:07 --> 25:14 [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, my favorite part was was murderbot flooding the other spot with sanctuary moon to distract it.
25:14 --> 25:15 [SPEAKER_02]: Right.
25:15 --> 25:20 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I wonder, you know, they really don't show us what are the other bots thinking.
25:21 --> 25:23 [SPEAKER_02]: We know because of murder about, we know they're capable of thought.
25:23 --> 25:31 [SPEAKER_02]: Obviously, they haven't jailbroken themselves and we know that murder bots developed a lot of the ways of thinking about thinking from watching media.
25:32 --> 25:49 [SPEAKER_02]: human media but when the other secunits are with murderbot in the cargo they know like this is a weird secunits as you said infected with the empathy virus says sorry and they know they know murderbot has hacked its governor module
25:49 --> 26:11 [SPEAKER_02]: and murder body even says to them we can talk about this you don't have to follow orders I can teach you how to hack your governor modules and obviously they're required by those governor modules to attack murder but but do you think part of them is torn inside thinking like oh I really wish I could just take this bad up often this up on this offer
26:12 --> 26:12 [SPEAKER_03]: I don't know.
26:12 --> 26:17 [SPEAKER_03]: Well, we know that again, murderbot had this, this weird construction, right?
26:17 --> 26:20 [SPEAKER_03]: Like, wasn't there that whole thing of like, uh, it's within parameters.
26:21 --> 26:21 [SPEAKER_03]: Right.
26:22 --> 26:27 [SPEAKER_03]: I think murderbot might be the weird one, not wanting, like, caring about getting freedom.
26:27 --> 26:32 [SPEAKER_03]: Like, that's why more, like, I'm sure most of them are technologically capable of hacking their governor modules.
26:33 --> 26:35 [SPEAKER_03]: But the question is, do they want to?
26:36 --> 26:38 [SPEAKER_03]: Or are they, are they so well programmed?
26:39 --> 26:40 [SPEAKER_03]: That they don't even feel the need.
26:42 --> 26:56 [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, okay, I have thoughts on this based on the second book that I won't share, but a separate thought is that this whole phrase about the empathy virus will murder, but in fact, others with the empathy virus.
26:56 --> 26:58 [SPEAKER_02]: Like obviously, these two units, they blew up.
26:59 --> 27:07 [SPEAKER_02]: But if they hadn't, would they be thinking about this and try to hack themselves?
27:07 --> 27:09 [SPEAKER_03]: It's a good question.
27:10 --> 27:10 [SPEAKER_03]: It's a good question.
27:11 --> 27:11 [SPEAKER_03]: I don't know.
27:11 --> 27:12 [SPEAKER_03]: I have a red ahead.
27:12 --> 27:13 [SPEAKER_03]: Unlike some people.
27:15 --> 27:17 [SPEAKER_02]: I'm kind of continuing reading ahead too.
27:18 --> 27:24 [SPEAKER_02]: Do you think they need a man with a laptop sling to help them communicate better with their... Oh my god.
27:24 --> 27:26 [SPEAKER_02]: The pilots help pilots.
27:27 --> 27:28 [SPEAKER_03]: I think everyone needs to try the field or method.
27:30 --> 27:32 [SPEAKER_02]: It's another rehearsal reference.
27:32 --> 27:34 [SPEAKER_02]: Sorry to those of you not watching, but you should.
27:35 --> 27:36 [SPEAKER_03]: Everybody should walk.
27:36 --> 27:39 [SPEAKER_03]: If you like the humor in this show, I think you would love the rehearsal.
27:40 --> 27:41 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I guess so.
27:41 --> 27:41 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
27:41 --> 27:41 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
27:42 --> 27:43 [SPEAKER_03]: It's the same like awkwardness.
27:43 --> 27:44 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
27:44 --> 27:46 [SPEAKER_03]: I think you would really like it if you like.
27:48 --> 27:56 [SPEAKER_02]: So another interesting thing was this whole question, people have been dealing, you know, the preservation ox team has been dealing with watching murder, but
27:57 --> 27:58 [SPEAKER_02]: blow up the BB's head.
27:59 --> 28:01 [SPEAKER_02]: And is that murder?
28:02 --> 28:04 [SPEAKER_02]: And would they be capable of doing such a thing?
28:04 --> 28:08 [SPEAKER_02]: And this episode really brings that to a head for the group as a whole.
28:08 --> 28:10 [SPEAKER_02]: But I would say for pinley in particular.
28:12 --> 28:20 [SPEAKER_02]: because Pinley was always the one who's the best with the guns and always the one who's like the closest to violence of the group I feel like.
28:21 --> 28:38 [SPEAKER_02]: And so we saw Pinley struggling with it but then we find out Pinley had another plan that was dismissed and their plan was to auto pilot right into the Great Chris Habitat which growth in points out would have you know they wouldn't have been able to set off the beacon so that was why they didn't go with this plan but
28:39 --> 28:41 [SPEAKER_02]: Isn't autopilot engraved into the Great Chris Habitat?
28:42 --> 28:43 [SPEAKER_02]: Isn't that intended to kill them all?
28:46 --> 28:48 [SPEAKER_03]: I guess so, but do you know that they're there?
28:48 --> 28:52 [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I'm worth it in the hopper.
28:53 --> 28:54 [SPEAKER_02]: Right.
28:54 --> 28:58 [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, what's the point that what's the point otherwise of doing that?
28:59 --> 29:03 [SPEAKER_03]: I think that was pinley's goal, but I don't think it was a very good goal, you know?
29:04 --> 29:14 [SPEAKER_03]: Because you don't know if the second term patrol, you don't know if there are drones out there, you don't know if somebody's scouting with the hopper, it sounds like they're very practiced in scouting from the air, right?
29:14 --> 29:17 [SPEAKER_03]: They go, oh, let's go look for the air for your friends and whatnot.
29:18 --> 29:25 [SPEAKER_03]: So I don't think that you just can't count on it, because one sec unit gets away and you're screwed.
29:27 --> 29:27 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
29:28 --> 29:28 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
29:28 --> 29:32 [SPEAKER_02]: Murderer points out that if their secunit survived, they will hunt you down and kill you.
29:32 --> 29:50 [SPEAKER_02]: But I think because they're commended to, if that, I wonder if these secunit say, if they must have the combat override module, if they could kick that, if that would change things, but anyway, as it stands, we see then that great Chris guard that tries to stop.
29:50 --> 29:54 [SPEAKER_02]: growth in from hacking into, you know, the, the systems at the base.
29:55 --> 29:58 [SPEAKER_02]: And I love first of all, the girl, I think gets his badass moment.
29:59 --> 30:00 [SPEAKER_02]: Who the fuck are you?
30:01 --> 30:02 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
30:03 --> 30:10 [SPEAKER_02]: But then, um, Pinley hits the guard in the back of the head and the guard immediately starts foaming from the mouth.
30:10 --> 30:12 [SPEAKER_02]: And Pinley's like, is he okay?
30:12 --> 30:13 [SPEAKER_02]: Oh my god.
30:13 --> 30:13 [SPEAKER_02]: Oh my god.
30:13 --> 30:14 [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I don't think so.
30:15 --> 30:15 [SPEAKER_02]: I don't think so.
30:15 --> 30:16 [SPEAKER_03]: I don't think so.
30:16 --> 30:17 [SPEAKER_03]: Soft little.
30:18 --> 30:23 [SPEAKER_03]: preservation of people can't handle a little blooding or not that I think I would be any better.
30:23 --> 30:26 [SPEAKER_03]: I don't think I could handle any of this either.
30:26 --> 30:28 [SPEAKER_02]: No, but if it did make me laugh, is he okay?
30:28 --> 30:30 [SPEAKER_02]: No, I don't think he's okay.
30:30 --> 30:32 [SPEAKER_02]: He looks very on okay.
30:32 --> 30:33 [SPEAKER_03]: Right, right.
30:34 --> 30:35 [SPEAKER_03]: He was very dead.
30:36 --> 30:36 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
30:37 --> 30:51 [SPEAKER_02]: Well, I also, I mean, just again, just the contrasting between murder but and the great Chris sec units, you know, murder but seems to have a bit of an inferiority complex which fair from physical standpoint.
30:51 --> 30:57 [SPEAKER_02]: But then it says a more sophisticated model might have come up with a better option, but you get what you pay for.
30:57 --> 31:03 [SPEAKER_02]: But I think that actually they have the more sophisticated quote unquote models.
31:04 --> 31:21 [SPEAKER_02]: Um, the ones that are more mindless drones would have never come up with any of these solutions that murder bots been coming up with along the way, even without the combat override module, probably they would have died when that like first creature came and tried to eat barred watch and it all does another time since.
31:22 --> 31:22 [SPEAKER_03]: Right.
31:23 --> 31:25 [SPEAKER_03]: You know, there's a lot you can learn sanctuary moon.
31:27 --> 31:32 [SPEAKER_02]: It's just from allowing more freedom of thoughts, more creative solutions.
31:32 --> 31:32 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
31:32 --> 31:33 [SPEAKER_03]: Exactly.
31:33 --> 31:33 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
31:34 --> 31:36 [SPEAKER_03]: There's advantages to being murdered about.
31:37 --> 31:37 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
31:38 --> 31:39 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
31:39 --> 31:42 [SPEAKER_02]: And I never thought that I would get so emotional from hearing the words.
31:43 --> 31:46 [SPEAKER_02]: I want you all to know why I copy.
31:49 --> 31:50 [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, so sad.
31:50 --> 31:52 [SPEAKER_03]: A little murder about trying it.
31:52 --> 31:53 [SPEAKER_03]: Trying it.
31:53 --> 31:54 [SPEAKER_03]: It's like Scott Pilgrim.
31:54 --> 31:55 [SPEAKER_03]: I'm in Lesbids with you.
31:56 --> 31:57 [SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to say it to you all.
31:59 --> 32:00 [SPEAKER_03]: Just can't say love.
32:04 --> 32:20 [SPEAKER_02]: By the way, I think it was really a safe bet with murderbot to assume that they had never seen their their succulents faces, but a much less safe safe bet to assume that none of them had ever watched sanctuary moon and keep using names from it.
32:20 --> 32:24 [SPEAKER_02]: Shagaman and quoting it all day.
32:24 --> 32:34 [SPEAKER_03]: I don't know, it's really interesting to me actually because we are living in an increasingly fractured media environment where people aren't all watching the same show anymore.
32:34 --> 32:37 [SPEAKER_03]: There's no like generalized popular show.
32:38 --> 32:39 [SPEAKER_03]: That thing, we just quote to anybody.
32:40 --> 32:43 [SPEAKER_03]: Like you have to make sure they watch the show before you do a little reference to it.
32:45 --> 32:50 [SPEAKER_03]: And in the future, I can only imagine it's going to get more fractured as the population grows.
32:51 --> 32:54 [SPEAKER_03]: If the population grows, we'll see if we're successful.
32:54 --> 32:58 [SPEAKER_03]: And so why does everyone watch the same show?
32:59 --> 33:12 [SPEAKER_02]: Well, I mean, it seems like it's something like, you know, I've compared it before to Star Trek or Doctor Who, where even people who don't watch it are aware of it because it's just such a long running show that a lot of people do watch.
33:12 --> 33:14 [SPEAKER_02]: And it seems like whenever there's a group,
33:15 --> 33:21 [SPEAKER_02]: one or two people and it will have watched it or you know, and at least I guess in this case, at least two of them had heard of it.
33:21 --> 33:28 [SPEAKER_02]: I was so funny seeing men's face when they start insulting sanctuary moon and men's faces like, oh god, not this again.
33:28 --> 33:29 [SPEAKER_02]: Don't.
33:29 --> 33:29 [SPEAKER_03]: No, my god.
33:30 --> 33:30 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
33:34 --> 33:53 [SPEAKER_03]: but but also I feel like it's more comparable to all my children you know like it's because in sanctuary mood like it's sci-fi to us but it's just realistic to them and so it's almost like all my children where it's just like a drama it's a regular realistic drama to them well you probably yeah that's a good point that's a good point although
33:54 --> 33:55 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I guess it's true.
33:55 --> 33:58 [SPEAKER_02]: I do keep wondering, you know, so we have alien remnants here.
33:58 --> 34:01 [SPEAKER_02]: And again, I've only read the first two books, so I don't know if there are more questions coming.
34:03 --> 34:06 [SPEAKER_02]: But we only see humans around, humans and bots.
34:07 --> 34:12 [SPEAKER_02]: So that does beg some questions about where, what aliens left these remnants?
34:12 --> 34:18 [SPEAKER_02]: Like, assist from the megafauna that we've seen, are they intelligent enough to construct something like this?
34:18 --> 34:19 [SPEAKER_02]: And if so, to what purpose?
34:19 --> 34:24 [SPEAKER_02]: Or is it some other race of beings that is gone now for some reason or another?
34:24 --> 34:25 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I don't know.
34:25 --> 34:53 [SPEAKER_03]: I mean it kind of tickles my foundation bring where I'm thinking about how like in that universe in the book universe at least like the spacers are just the first humans that went out to space and they like evolved separately basically because they were separate for so long and they had their own societies that were they were very separate and and so they they seem like aliens now, but they're not and so maybe maybe these were the first humans that went out and they eventually went extinct Yeah
34:54 --> 34:54 [SPEAKER_02]: Maybe.
34:54 --> 34:59 [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, how do you think Great Chris would exploit the alien remnant we saw?
34:59 --> 35:01 [SPEAKER_02]: It's like, it was kind of like a ball of wind.
35:01 --> 35:02 [SPEAKER_02]: Is it maybe energy?
35:03 --> 35:05 [SPEAKER_02]: Is it some sort of endless energy?
35:05 --> 35:10 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, maybe there's, you know, I think of also of the Halo series.
35:10 --> 35:24 [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, it's better flush to add in the games, but in the show too, they talk about it like there's these four runners where they had this like advanced technology and if you can get your hands on it, you can use it for like military power and whatnot.
35:24 --> 35:24 [SPEAKER_02]: Right.
35:25 --> 35:25 [SPEAKER_02]: Right.
35:26 --> 35:27 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, that's what it is.
35:27 --> 35:32 [SPEAKER_03]: It's all it's all selling to millet is selling to different corporations to have their corporate superiority.
35:32 --> 35:38 [SPEAKER_03]: It military at least selling to preservation ox so that it can defend itself.
35:39 --> 35:39 [SPEAKER_03]: Whatever.
35:39 --> 35:39 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
35:40 --> 35:41 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
35:41 --> 35:45 [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, we definitely great Chris does not seem like the group that we want in charge of that.
35:46 --> 35:46 [SPEAKER_03]: No, no.
35:47 --> 35:48 [SPEAKER_03]: But I don't even keep it.
35:48 --> 35:49 [SPEAKER_03]: I think they would just sell it.
35:50 --> 35:54 [SPEAKER_02]: No, yeah, I don't even have to move it, but I wonder if it's something they could like, I don't know.
35:54 --> 35:56 [SPEAKER_02]: They could exploit it locally somehow.
35:56 --> 35:57 [SPEAKER_02]: I'm curious.
35:57 --> 35:59 [SPEAKER_02]: I hope that there's more explanations about that.
36:01 --> 36:05 [SPEAKER_02]: But I love, can we talk about murder bots, adorable efforts, too?
36:05 --> 36:17 [SPEAKER_02]: I think this is where you're talking about it being kind of like the cringe humor of the rehearsal where murder bots trying to stall them while it thinks that the countdown to the beacon blast off still going down.
36:18 --> 36:20 [SPEAKER_02]: All the exchanges here were gold.
36:20 --> 36:22 [SPEAKER_02]: Like, I thought you said they were extremely clueless.
36:22 --> 36:23 [SPEAKER_02]: They are, but only in certain matters.
36:24 --> 36:25 [SPEAKER_02]: They're excellent at hiding.
36:27 --> 36:28 [SPEAKER_03]: It's so silly.
36:29 --> 36:31 [SPEAKER_03]: Alexander Scarsgard is really great at delivery.
36:31 --> 36:33 [SPEAKER_03]: Like, I'm really impressed with him.
36:34 --> 36:35 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, absolutely.
36:35 --> 36:35 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
36:36 --> 36:49 [SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, when we talked about also last episode about how the preservation ox team was overthinking their physical prowess when it came to fighting off them, the enemy sec unit.
36:49 --> 36:52 [SPEAKER_02]: And now we have murdered about doing the same with the social skills.
36:52 --> 36:55 [SPEAKER_02]: Like, luckily, my conversational skills have improved significantly.
36:55 --> 36:56 [SPEAKER_02]: Like, have they?
36:56 --> 36:57 [SPEAKER_02]: Where are you from?
36:57 --> 36:59 [SPEAKER_02]: How do you like this planet?
36:59 --> 37:02 [SPEAKER_02]: And like, I can't believe how do you like this planet worked?
37:03 --> 37:04 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, yeah.
37:05 --> 37:06 [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, that's true.
37:06 --> 37:10 [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, you get one person who's enough of a chatterbox.
37:11 --> 37:13 [SPEAKER_03]: And you get there, right?
37:14 --> 37:14 [SPEAKER_02]: And he is feelings.
37:14 --> 37:15 [SPEAKER_02]: He is negative feelings.
37:15 --> 37:16 [SPEAKER_02]: And he wants them to be shared.
37:17 --> 37:18 [SPEAKER_03]: Right, exactly.
37:18 --> 37:18 [SPEAKER_03]: Negative feelings.
37:18 --> 37:20 [SPEAKER_03]: They could be a powerful thing to get people talking.
37:22 --> 37:23 [SPEAKER_03]: It's probably why I introduce you to Twitter.
37:25 --> 37:30 [SPEAKER_02]: That's probably why he insulted Sanctuary Moon also because we know that's premium quality television.
37:30 --> 37:37 [SPEAKER_03]: Right, and that is also how the preservation talks people got murder about to admit about sanctuary food too, right?
37:37 --> 37:41 [SPEAKER_03]: Like, like, like, oh, this person killed that person.
37:41 --> 37:42 [SPEAKER_03]: That's a fucking lie.
37:42 --> 37:45 [SPEAKER_02]: I love it.
37:46 --> 37:46 [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, man.
37:46 --> 37:48 [SPEAKER_02]: And that awkward moment when there was no explosion.
37:48 --> 37:52 [SPEAKER_02]: It was like, oh, I thought I saw someone down here.
37:53 --> 38:02 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but yeah, we do see here that Mensa, you know, she when she goes to she says I have another idea.
38:02 --> 38:07 [SPEAKER_02]: She doesn't know that that the beacon's not going to go off.
38:08 --> 38:08 [SPEAKER_02]: She just
38:09 --> 38:24 [SPEAKER_02]: thinks she will sacrifice her own life in order to save murder bought you know she leaves behind that message take care of my children if you know so that shows you what kind of men's person men says do you think everyone in preservation ox would do that
38:26 --> 38:27 [SPEAKER_03]: No, I don't.
38:27 --> 38:30 [SPEAKER_03]: Do you think anyone else run at the first side of danger?
38:30 --> 38:32 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think other people.
38:32 --> 38:33 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, for sure.
38:33 --> 38:35 [SPEAKER_03]: There's never one good person at a world.
38:35 --> 38:40 [SPEAKER_03]: But I do think Mensa is a, you know, greatest among equals here.
38:40 --> 38:41 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
38:41 --> 38:43 [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I don't think not doing it makes you a bad person.
38:43 --> 38:44 [SPEAKER_02]: I just think, yeah, indeed.
38:44 --> 38:48 [SPEAKER_02]: Mensa's probably, she's a leader for a reason.
38:48 --> 38:48 [SPEAKER_02]: I'm sure.
38:48 --> 38:49 [SPEAKER_03]: Right.
38:49 --> 38:49 [SPEAKER_03]: Although.
38:49 --> 38:50 [SPEAKER_03]: Right.
38:50 --> 38:53 [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, she seems to have a very, very strong character here.
38:53 --> 38:54 [SPEAKER_02]: Mm-hmm.
38:55 --> 39:00 [SPEAKER_02]: although she specifies that they are non-corporation freehold policies.
39:00 --> 39:04 [SPEAKER_02]: So non-corporation we know that they're not part of the corporation rim freehold.
39:04 --> 39:07 [SPEAKER_02]: We know that that they are, yeah, that seems redundant.
39:07 --> 39:08 [SPEAKER_02]: Non-corporation in freehold.
39:09 --> 39:14 [SPEAKER_02]: And the butpality means that they are governing as a group.
39:15 --> 39:19 [SPEAKER_02]: So I think she's like the temporary planetary admin.
39:19 --> 39:20 [SPEAKER_03]: It's really like a prime minister.
39:20 --> 39:21 [SPEAKER_03]: It sounds like
39:21 --> 39:22 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
39:22 --> 39:22 [SPEAKER_03]: Exactly.
39:23 --> 39:23 [SPEAKER_02]: Exactly.
39:24 --> 39:24 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
39:24 --> 39:28 [SPEAKER_02]: But still killing a planetary admin comes with extra headaches and expenses.
39:28 --> 39:37 [SPEAKER_02]: But I guess not if Great Chris doesn't plan or plans to blame it on the on the on the second it so that the corporation has to pay out not Great Chris.
39:38 --> 39:41 [SPEAKER_03]: but they make a bigger deal out of that in the books, don't they?
39:41 --> 39:53 [SPEAKER_03]: They make a much bigger deal out of this idea that like there's gonna be extra investigations and they're gonna really get to the bottom of it if a leader like this dies because the insurance is so expensive so the insurance is gonna wanna pay out.
39:53 --> 40:00 [SPEAKER_02]: Right, yeah, I mean I guess they mentioned it so far but they haven't like drilled down on it as much.
40:00 --> 40:01 [SPEAKER_02]: But I guess Great Chris wouldn't matter.
40:02 --> 40:06 [SPEAKER_02]: It doesn't matter to them anyway because as long as it's not coming out of their pockets.
40:06 --> 40:06 [SPEAKER_03]: Right.
40:07 --> 40:07 [SPEAKER_03]: Right.
40:08 --> 40:10 [SPEAKER_03]: The capitalism give a thing take it.
40:10 --> 40:12 [SPEAKER_02]: Hmm.
40:13 --> 40:17 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it ends in a really emotional note.
40:17 --> 40:19 [SPEAKER_02]: My client is the best clients and graphans look at the end.
40:20 --> 40:22 [SPEAKER_02]: Do you think you finally trust murderbot?
40:25 --> 40:27 [SPEAKER_03]: I don't think he would like be like murderbot.
40:27 --> 40:36 [SPEAKER_03]: Let's do a trust fall, but I do think that he like allow murderbot to be on the theme like fully on the team.
40:37 --> 40:37 [SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
40:37 --> 40:37 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
40:38 --> 40:39 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
40:39 --> 40:44 [SPEAKER_02]: And I think murderbot has fully as accepted that Garatha is the most similar to it as well.
40:45 --> 40:47 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, especially with the eye contact comment, I think.
40:48 --> 40:51 [SPEAKER_03]: I do think that that was kind of double edged, right?
40:51 --> 40:55 [SPEAKER_03]: It was, it was to be like, we are the same in a way.
40:55 --> 40:55 [SPEAKER_02]: Mm-hmm.
40:56 --> 40:57 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's true.
40:57 --> 40:58 [SPEAKER_02]: That's true.
41:00 --> 41:06 [SPEAKER_02]: Well, I guess we have one more episode coming to find out whether Murderbot really died.
41:06 --> 41:10 [SPEAKER_02]: You know, we're hoping for a season two or so.
41:12 --> 41:14 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it's the titular character.
41:14 --> 41:16 [SPEAKER_03]: I don't think murder bots dying.
41:16 --> 41:18 [SPEAKER_03]: This isn't going to be a Ned Stark situation.
41:18 --> 41:18 [SPEAKER_03]: I'm pretty sure.
41:19 --> 41:19 [SPEAKER_02]: Right.
41:21 --> 41:23 [SPEAKER_02]: But I'm excited for it.
41:23 --> 41:26 [SPEAKER_02]: I guess it probably won't be as long an episode.
41:26 --> 41:30 [SPEAKER_02]: There was a thing with a second batch of iron hard.
41:30 --> 41:39 [SPEAKER_02]: The penultimate episode was the longest and the last episode was the shortest, but the last episode is the one where all the shit stuff happened.
41:43 --> 41:52 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, that's something that that I think we've actually lost that a little bit but for like ten years there was this tradition of like give your big battle in the ninth episode of ten.
41:52 --> 41:52 [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
41:52 --> 41:57 [SPEAKER_03]: And then wrap it up in the ten like you the aftermath and I really liked that and I wish we would go back to it.
41:57 --> 41:58 [SPEAKER_03]: So murder about thank you.
41:59 --> 41:59 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
42:00 --> 42:00 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
42:00 --> 42:02 [SPEAKER_02]: But structure like the book that way I guess so.
42:02 --> 42:03 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
42:03 --> 42:07 [SPEAKER_02]: But I'm really excited to see where they leave things because I'm hoping
42:08 --> 42:15 [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, if they follow the end of the book, then it is both satisfying and on its own, but also setting up potentially something new.
42:15 --> 42:22 [SPEAKER_02]: So I guess presumably that's what they'll do, but I just hope that at the very end it says season two coming next year.
42:23 --> 42:24 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
42:24 --> 42:25 [SPEAKER_03]: Wouldn't it be nice to be an annual show?
42:25 --> 42:27 [SPEAKER_03]: I don't think so, but wouldn't it be nice?
42:28 --> 42:56 [SPEAKER_02]: Apple is the one that does plan ahead for that and they were for example with silo they had they were already well into pre-production like finished with pre-production of seasons three and four just about when they finally announced that they had renewed it for three and four and we're like I think they they don't have to announce it until once they start filming then it's hard to keep it secret that they're filming but before that Apple seems to quietly work on things so that they can
42:57 --> 42:59 [SPEAKER_02]: Delight rather than disappointing, probably.
42:59 --> 43:01 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, that's interesting.
43:01 --> 43:09 [SPEAKER_03]: I think foundation, I think foundation for a lot of reasons, but partly was the writer strike that they are two years.
43:09 --> 43:09 [SPEAKER_00]: Right.
43:09 --> 43:10 [SPEAKER_03]: And not one year.
43:10 --> 43:15 [SPEAKER_03]: But they do, and who knows what's coming next with that, because all the showrunner changes and budget cuts.
43:15 --> 43:21 [SPEAKER_02]: But, yeah, that's a bigger one with the scale and the VFX and everything.
43:21 --> 43:24 [SPEAKER_03]: And the cast, you've got Jared Harris, you've got Lee Pays.
43:24 --> 43:26 [SPEAKER_03]: It's, you know, you got to get all these people together.
43:27 --> 43:27 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's true.
43:28 --> 43:29 [SPEAKER_02]: That's true.
43:29 --> 43:31 [SPEAKER_02]: I do hope for this season of foundation.
43:31 --> 43:37 [SPEAKER_02]: I think that because I know a lot of people like season two, foundation more than one, but I actually feel the opposite.
43:37 --> 43:45 [SPEAKER_02]: And I think the difference in season two is this story became too fragmented for me that, you know, I wasn't caring for all the parts equally.
43:46 --> 43:53 [SPEAKER_02]: So I hope that this season they do bring this story together a bit more if that makes any sense.
43:53 --> 43:54 [SPEAKER_03]: Spoilers.
43:55 --> 43:56 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I have not watched it.
43:56 --> 43:58 [SPEAKER_02]: Can't tell you anything like that.
43:58 --> 44:00 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you could watch it right now.
44:00 --> 44:00 [SPEAKER_03]: You have screens.
44:00 --> 44:01 [SPEAKER_02]: I know.
44:01 --> 44:01 [SPEAKER_02]: I know.
44:01 --> 44:04 [SPEAKER_02]: All right.
44:04 --> 44:05 [SPEAKER_02]: We'll finish this one.
44:06 --> 44:07 [SPEAKER_03]: Very cool.
44:07 --> 44:11 [SPEAKER_03]: Well, if you want to send feedback, lower-hounds at thelowerhounds.com is the best way to do it.
44:11 --> 44:15 [SPEAKER_03]: We have one more episode to make sure to send it in ASAP so that we can read it on that finale.
44:16 --> 44:20 [SPEAKER_03]: And you can talk with us in real time on the Discord server linked in the show notes in the link tree.
44:21 --> 44:24 [SPEAKER_03]: And we've got a spoiler style forum with spoilery chats.
44:24 --> 44:28 [SPEAKER_03]: But we have each episode siloed so if you're behind, you can go talk about this episode like a view.
44:29 --> 44:32 [SPEAKER_03]: If the finale is already come out and you don't want to be spoiled, we have an episode nine thread.
44:32 --> 44:33 [SPEAKER_03]: So it'll be a lot of fun.
44:34 --> 44:35 [SPEAKER_03]: What else you got, Alicia?
44:36 --> 44:40 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we're also recording today Ironheart.
44:40 --> 44:42 [SPEAKER_02]: The episode's fourth through six.
44:42 --> 44:44 [SPEAKER_02]: So it was released in two parts.
44:44 --> 44:46 [SPEAKER_02]: So we're completing the second part of Ironheart.
44:47 --> 44:55 [SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, I think that it would this show was a pleasant surprise for a lot of people who had written it off for various reasons before it aired.
44:56 --> 44:59 [SPEAKER_02]: But I know Jean's big mad at someone in the finale.
44:59 --> 45:00 [SPEAKER_02]: So we're going to be talking about that.
45:01 --> 45:03 [SPEAKER_03]: Is he telling them to kick rocks?
45:03 --> 45:06 [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, there's going to be boulders being.
45:06 --> 45:07 [SPEAKER_02]: No, gosh.
45:07 --> 45:08 [SPEAKER_03]: In the Amazon's watch out.
45:11 --> 45:17 [SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, I think that the story just evokes a reaction that makes you mad at someone.
45:18 --> 45:18 [SPEAKER_02]: Gotcha.
45:20 --> 45:21 [SPEAKER_02]: and sets up interesting things for them.
45:21 --> 45:22 [SPEAKER_02]: So you're going forward.
45:23 --> 45:27 [SPEAKER_02]: Twenty-eight years later we released that episode.
45:27 --> 45:36 [SPEAKER_02]: So there's the episode for the first two films in the subscriber feeds and then a public episode about the new film that came out and spoiler alerts.
45:36 --> 45:38 [SPEAKER_02]: I'm kind of obsessed with it right now.
45:39 --> 45:41 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I recommend watching it.
45:41 --> 45:43 [SPEAKER_02]: I recommend listening to our coverage.
45:43 --> 45:50 [SPEAKER_02]: The first half hour of it is spoiler free where we talk about hot takes and the production.
45:51 --> 45:53 [SPEAKER_02]: So what's going on in supercast and patreon?
45:54 --> 46:02 [SPEAKER_03]: We just did our Wes Anderson eleven z's and we are going to go forward with Val Kilmer and then ghoulos in the lead on that pole.
46:02 --> 46:04 [SPEAKER_03]: So if you haven't voted yet, a few more days.
