Drama about "Drama" and What's Coming Next

Now that Lanterns is done, we are giving you this little holdover where Edu, Javon, and I discuss the Drama. You know how much he LOVES that movie (JK). Also, a quick announcement about the next shows we'll cover on the podcast.

Until next week, enjoy.

00:00 --> 00:02 [SPEAKER_02]: Hey, there are your girls, boys, and on binaries.
00:02 --> 00:03 [SPEAKER_02]: There's your boy Ron Dawson.
00:03 --> 00:11 [SPEAKER_02]: So now that lanterns is over, we are going to cover Kerry and VisionQuest next.
00:12 --> 00:16 [SPEAKER_02]: And I think VisionQuest, as of this recording, just dropped two episodes and Disney Plus.
00:17 --> 00:19 [SPEAKER_02]: I do don't got Disney Plus.
00:19 --> 00:21 [SPEAKER_02]: He hates everything anyway.
00:21 --> 00:25 [SPEAKER_02]: So I don't know if he's going to participate in those VisionQuest discussions.
00:29 --> 00:32 [SPEAKER_02]: If you know me, you know, I normally can't take horror.
00:32 --> 00:33 [SPEAKER_02]: I think I can handle that one.
00:33 --> 00:42 [SPEAKER_02]: So we're going to talk about Carrie, we're going to talk about Vision Quest, and next week, we're going to have a short recap of lanterns.
00:42 --> 00:48 [SPEAKER_02]: We're going to be back David, as a Lorna Allen, as well as a John, the Heather Locklear of our show.
00:49 --> 01:02 [SPEAKER_02]: I love you, John, and just a quick recap of the season with them about lanterns and then do a follow-up discussion of the first two episodes of Vision.
01:03 --> 01:06 [SPEAKER_02]: VisionQuest and I don't know how we handle carry it.
01:06 --> 01:11 [SPEAKER_02]: So not sure when episode is going to drop depending on the shows and the show comes on.
01:12 --> 01:18 [SPEAKER_02]: VisionQuest comes on Wednesdays, I think, but just stay tuned to this channel if you're watching this on YouTube.
01:19 --> 01:24 [SPEAKER_02]: And if you're listening to this when the people who download it, you'll see something in your feed at some point.
01:25 --> 01:36 [SPEAKER_02]: Until then, we're going to leave you for this week with a one of the pre-called discussions we had a few months ago about drama.
01:36 --> 01:42 [SPEAKER_02]: You know, there was a lot of drama between me and it do over the movie drama and we had a short discussion about it.
01:43 --> 01:44 [SPEAKER_02]: And here it is.
01:44 --> 01:44 [SPEAKER_02]: Hope you enjoy it.
01:45 --> 01:46 [SPEAKER_02]: Until next week, peace.
01:49 --> 02:02 [SPEAKER_02]: A Razzy, the drama is not as bad as you, it's not even controversial.
02:02 --> 02:11 [SPEAKER_03]: It's like just weak, it's just a not a good movie, based on what, what is it that you think?
02:11 --> 02:14 [SPEAKER_03]: What is this so good about it, like it tries to take
02:16 --> 02:33 [SPEAKER_02]: A topic that is, is yes, I want to start before you say it before you say it before you say it before you say it with the topic is it should it's before you say it with the topic is I'm not going to say well I want to use this discussion to say to get to it before you get to it.
02:34 --> 02:39 [SPEAKER_02]: So divine, just, you're, you're fine, understand the premise.
02:39 --> 02:43 [SPEAKER_02]: Like, it's not gonna be, it's not like, I'm totally fine understanding the premise.
02:43 --> 02:46 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it's not going to like be, oh my God.
02:46 --> 02:50 [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, believe me, if, if and when you ever see it,
02:52 --> 03:04 [SPEAKER_03]: If you actually didn't know the premise, you would be so disappointed, like, oh, that's the print, like that's what the drama is, like it's so, it's a pretentious movie.
03:04 --> 03:17 [SPEAKER_03]: That's why do you say that, why do you wait, what if it assumes that the premise is so just like, oh my god, so like horrifying,
03:18 --> 03:24 [SPEAKER_03]: And I'm not saying it's not a horrifying act or an event.
03:25 --> 03:34 [SPEAKER_03]: I'm saying the way they present it and continue to dwell on it throughout this movie is just like,
03:35 --> 03:40 [SPEAKER_03]: All right, so Javay, here's how to make something out of very little.
03:40 --> 03:43 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, so I would say this.
03:43 --> 03:46 [SPEAKER_00]: I've heard from two other people that did not like it.
03:47 --> 03:48 [SPEAKER_02]: Who are the two people?
03:48 --> 03:48 [SPEAKER_02]: Anyway, I know.
03:49 --> 03:50 [SPEAKER_02]: It's not like a movie.
03:51 --> 04:05 [SPEAKER_03]: Well, obviously that's untrue because there obviously are a lot of people who did like the movie and it didn't It was like those are the the the few idiots out there The flash is in diafms in there.
04:05 --> 04:09 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I mean, there probably is in diafms Amazin diafms.
04:10 --> 04:10 [SPEAKER_00]: I like it.
04:10 --> 04:16 [SPEAKER_03]: No, I'm sure they all the people really like other people that like it are likely in diafms
04:18 --> 04:20 [SPEAKER_02]: I don't have to go and see with the reading.
04:20 --> 04:21 [SPEAKER_03]: Right down.
04:21 --> 04:22 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
04:22 --> 04:23 [SPEAKER_02]: Maybe you can look at it.
04:23 --> 04:24 [SPEAKER_02]: So, so, divine.
04:24 --> 04:28 [SPEAKER_02]: So, here's the, the inciting incident at the end of act one is,
04:31 --> 04:52 [SPEAKER_02]: Robert Pattinson is a day at Charlie and Emma are about to get married and so we can further wedding and they're having like one of those dinners we are trying out the food and they're with their two best friends who are the best man and made of honor who are also married couple interesting both couples right by our interracial the the best and who's the and that's intentional.
04:53 --> 05:05 [SPEAKER_03]: I know I'm, it's just told you it's so whack who they put my man, uh, the best man with, yeah, first of all, that bitch is ugly.
05:06 --> 05:26 [SPEAKER_03]: ugly she's annoying he's the ugliest of the haim sisters that was she's a haim sister that's not that fucked up knows not grill I'm like first of all this brother messed up this brother would not be married to this annoying ugly woman so it was annoying on top of that isn't it?
05:27 --> 05:40 [SPEAKER_02]: So the premise is, they're at this dinner, it's like five days before the wedding, they're trying to side with their final meal, but the final menu's gonna be, and they play the game, which no couple should ever play, but they play the game.
05:41 --> 05:43 [SPEAKER_02]: What's the worst thing you've ever done?
05:43 --> 05:51 [SPEAKER_02]: The best man says, he basically he used the next girlfriend as a shield for like a big dog.
05:51 --> 05:52 [SPEAKER_02]: Rabbit dog.
05:52 --> 05:53 [SPEAKER_02]: I rabbit dog.
05:53 --> 05:53 [SPEAKER_03]: Wow.
05:54 --> 06:10 [SPEAKER_02]: The mate, the his wife, who's been a girlfriend, he didn't even like, they were already fighting on the day right the mate, the mate of honor, who's his wife, she locked an ostentably slow person as she described him and when she was a kid in a closet.
06:11 --> 06:13 [SPEAKER_02]: Um, dude, you can't use that word.
06:13 --> 06:16 [SPEAKER_02]: You're kidding us, cancel, dude.
06:17 --> 06:19 [SPEAKER_02]: Um, that's how she just, she didn't use that word.
06:19 --> 06:20 [SPEAKER_03]: But as a slow person.
06:20 --> 06:20 [SPEAKER_02]: Right.
06:21 --> 06:24 [SPEAKER_02]: Um, she locked him in a closet overnight and didn't tell anybody.
06:25 --> 06:27 [SPEAKER_02]: And everyone was like looking for him.
06:27 --> 06:29 [SPEAKER_02]: Luckily he was found.
06:29 --> 06:33 [SPEAKER_02]: But I think one of the characters said the R word in the movie, right?
06:33 --> 06:35 [SPEAKER_03]: And they said the same basically you can't say.
06:35 --> 06:36 [SPEAKER_02]: Maybe something like that.
06:36 --> 06:36 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
06:37 --> 06:40 [SPEAKER_02]: Um, so Robert Pattinson Charlie.
06:41 --> 06:45 [SPEAKER_02]: His thing was he cyberbullied someone so badly the family had to know of that.
06:46 --> 06:47 [SPEAKER_03]: I don't even believe that story was true
06:48 --> 06:52 [SPEAKER_03]: No, I think it's supposed to be made up on the spot, but anyway, go ahead.
06:52 --> 06:54 [SPEAKER_03]: So those are the three things that they had the movie was.
06:54 --> 06:55 [SPEAKER_02]: Right.
06:55 --> 06:59 [SPEAKER_02]: Do they get to Emma and her thing was also known as Zindale.
06:59 --> 07:05 [SPEAKER_02]: Zindale, Zindale, her thing was, uh, so if you're watching this video spoiler, here it comes.
07:05 --> 07:11 [SPEAKER_02]: Her thing was, she almost did a school shooting, like she planned a
07:13 --> 07:16 [SPEAKER_02]: and took again to school and she was going to do a school shooting.
07:17 --> 07:19 [SPEAKER_02]: When she was 14, when she was 14, 15.
07:20 --> 07:21 [SPEAKER_03]: Um, okay.
07:21 --> 07:22 [SPEAKER_03]: Long story short, her teenager.
07:23 --> 07:23 [SPEAKER_02]: Very disturbed.
07:24 --> 07:27 [SPEAKER_02]: She didn't really, and she was, she was bullied with around a lot.
07:27 --> 07:30 [SPEAKER_02]: She went to a school that wore uniforms.
07:30 --> 07:32 [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know, to what extent that's important.
07:32 --> 07:34 [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, look at the military.
07:34 --> 07:37 [SPEAKER_02]: Right, if I was there, uh, yeah.
07:37 --> 07:38 [SPEAKER_03]: Access to a gun.
07:39 --> 08:05 [SPEAKER_03]: was her father Miller was her father top he was military and he and he was a single single dad yeah he wasn't a single dad her mom was at the was at the well but her parents weren't together uh yeah i just i guess the impression that the parents weren't together no i think they were together was she just alone a lot yeah that's a child she was alone on okay um so the so the rest of the
08:09 --> 08:16 [SPEAKER_02]: The Rachel, the maid of honor, freaks out, because her cousin was paralyzed from the waist down.
08:16 --> 08:17 [SPEAKER_03]: That's what I was like.
08:17 --> 08:21 [SPEAKER_03]: I was like, Charlie was like, are they even that close?
08:21 --> 08:24 [SPEAKER_03]: It's like, like, oh, my cousin.
08:24 --> 08:26 [SPEAKER_03]: Like, right, he wouldn't even talk to this cousin.
08:27 --> 08:28 [SPEAKER_03]: Right.
08:28 --> 08:30 [SPEAKER_03]: And the movie started reaching for me.
08:30 --> 08:32 [SPEAKER_03]: I'm like, so there was a sin?
08:33 --> 08:43 [SPEAKER_02]: And then Robert, but as soon as I ran a lot around, I ran a patent and kind of freaking out worried that he's about to marry, especially like who am I married?
08:43 --> 08:44 [SPEAKER_02]: Right, right.
08:44 --> 09:01 [SPEAKER_02]: So a lot of it just explores how he kind of goes, he kind of twists, not twists, spins out of basically crashes out and just, you know, with back at his fiance, but at one point in her life,
09:02 --> 09:17 [SPEAKER_03]: 15 years earlier, because she's about to be 30, so 15 years early shooting, and it's like, and, you know, I mean, this is like, he fell in love with this woman, the moment he saw her, yeah, it was like he, it all brings with him.
09:18 --> 09:41 [SPEAKER_02]: Trying to pick up on her and By the way, she's deaf and one year just deaf one year because and she became deaf because when she was practicing shooting with the rifle it was too close here urban popped and so that's one of the stories so So I mean obviously the controversial part is, you know, how they deal with this topic of school shooting
09:42 --> 09:46 [SPEAKER_02]: And one of the interesting aspects of it, the writer director is British.
09:46 --> 09:55 [SPEAKER_02]: And so I think some of the conversation is how would have been done differently if an American director had written it and directed it.
09:55 --> 09:56 [SPEAKER_03]: Are there not school shootings?
09:57 --> 09:59 [SPEAKER_03]: And no, we're in the UK.
09:59 --> 10:02 [SPEAKER_03]: Well, at first of all, it's very, nobody's allowed to have a gun, so.
10:03 --> 10:04 [SPEAKER_03]: Right, exactly.
10:04 --> 10:08 [SPEAKER_03]: Um, yeah, I mean, I could see that.
10:08 --> 10:12 [SPEAKER_03]: That's more of an interesting controversy than the actual movie.
10:13 --> 10:16 [SPEAKER_02]: Um, so you didn't like any of the performances.
10:17 --> 10:20 [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it got tiresome.
10:20 --> 10:23 [SPEAKER_03]: Um, it got really tiresome.
10:23 --> 10:26 [SPEAKER_03]: Like, I felt like there was very little
10:27 --> 10:36 [SPEAKER_03]: to the story like I said, I mean, I get it that the controversy or the topic of controversy is not a small topic.
10:36 --> 10:37 [SPEAKER_03]: It's a very great.
10:37 --> 10:40 [SPEAKER_03]: Like, I think it was just the execution.
10:41 --> 10:42 [SPEAKER_02]: I thought it was executed poorly.
10:43 --> 10:43 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
10:43 --> 10:49 [SPEAKER_03]: That it became more of a, I almost wanted it to be a comedy.
10:50 --> 10:53 [SPEAKER_02]: And then I mean, I mean, they were a kind of comedy.
10:53 --> 10:58 [SPEAKER_03]: But I'm saying I wanted it to be presented as a straight comedy.
10:58 --> 11:02 [SPEAKER_03]: And then I thought it might have been more effective almost.
11:02 --> 11:25 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I mean, I think they want, I think I think your straddles line of dark comedy, I mean, it's definitely not like pure dark comedy, it has comedic elements for sure, I don't know, I thought it was executed poorly and and when she reveals her her deepest darkest secret, this is like,
11:27 --> 11:30 [SPEAKER_03]: Okay, I mean, that was the last thing.
11:31 --> 11:34 [SPEAKER_03]: That was the farthest thing from my mind, like I never would have guessed that.
11:35 --> 11:37 [SPEAKER_03]: Right, well, I think that's part of the issue.
11:37 --> 11:39 [SPEAKER_02]: It's something you would never guess.
11:40 --> 11:46 [SPEAKER_02]: And I think one of the questions it deals with is like, what would you do if you found out something about your partner that was that big?
11:46 --> 11:50 [SPEAKER_03]: I bet if she was marrying a black man, he wouldn't have had a problem.
11:51 --> 11:52 [SPEAKER_02]: probably.
11:54 --> 11:57 [SPEAKER_03]: That's their first days, but around these white bullet.
11:57 --> 12:01 [SPEAKER_02]: But the other thing is Robert Pattinson in the film is a Brit.
12:01 --> 12:03 [SPEAKER_02]: I mean he's a Brit in real life, but he plays a Brit.
12:03 --> 12:06 [SPEAKER_02]: So I think that's also part of it because he comes from a country.
12:07 --> 12:09 [SPEAKER_02]: And that kind of comes up a little bit in the movie too.
12:11 --> 12:17 [SPEAKER_02]: But the thing, one of the things I do find interesting is like all the other three friends, including Robert.
12:21 --> 12:30 [SPEAKER_02]: but in each one of their situations, they actually did something where as she obviously, she didn't follow through and they thought about it.
12:30 --> 12:31 [SPEAKER_02]: She thought about it.
12:32 --> 12:38 [SPEAKER_00]: That's why I'm like, I don't think that that raised the stakes because she thought about it.
12:39 --> 12:40 [SPEAKER_02]: What she didn't just think about it, she planned it.
12:40 --> 12:43 [SPEAKER_02]: Like she was going to the thing that stopped her,
12:44 --> 12:54 [SPEAKER_02]: There was a school shoot and that was there's a shooting in a mall like the day before she planned to do it and one of her friends was
12:56 --> 12:58 [SPEAKER_02]: was one of the friends or just a classmate.
12:58 --> 12:59 [SPEAKER_02]: It was a classmate.
12:59 --> 13:01 [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know how close the classmate was.
13:01 --> 13:03 [SPEAKER_02]: I don't think they were close.
13:03 --> 13:05 [SPEAKER_02]: But then they went to the whole class new.
13:06 --> 13:11 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, she got pulled into this anti gun group and they made her the spokesperson.
13:11 --> 13:11 [SPEAKER_02]: Right.
13:12 --> 13:15 [SPEAKER_03]: And then she got legitimately into anti gun life.
13:15 --> 13:15 [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
13:17 --> 13:20 [SPEAKER_03]: So, but it was also like because she was
13:23 --> 13:26 [SPEAKER_03]: That's what kind of softened her heart and changed her mind.
13:26 --> 13:27 [SPEAKER_03]: Sure.
13:27 --> 13:27 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
13:28 --> 13:29 [SPEAKER_02]: Were you going to ask Geron?
13:30 --> 13:36 [SPEAKER_00]: I was like, well, of course my mind keeps going towards what could be the possible twist here.
13:37 --> 13:38 [SPEAKER_03]: There is no twist.
13:38 --> 13:39 [SPEAKER_00]: No, the twist.
13:39 --> 13:39 [SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
13:40 --> 13:43 [SPEAKER_03]: The first thing is what would you do?
13:43 --> 13:47 [SPEAKER_03]: It tries to present it as, what would you do if you found out your fiance?
13:49 --> 13:52 [SPEAKER_03]: that were a point, like would you still marry them?
13:52 --> 13:53 [SPEAKER_03]: How would you view this person?
13:54 --> 14:05 [SPEAKER_03]: I just thought it got a little tires on like what the imagery in the books and I thought the funniest part, the most important part was the thing where he kept like so I just left the book on his desk.
14:05 --> 14:07 [SPEAKER_03]: It was about women with guns.
14:07 --> 14:10 [SPEAKER_02]: All right, you didn't see it in the end there.
14:10 --> 14:11 [SPEAKER_02]: It was like a photo book.
14:11 --> 14:14 [SPEAKER_02]: The model's posing with games.
14:14 --> 14:14 [SPEAKER_03]: Those were good.
14:14 --> 14:15 [SPEAKER_03]: Wow.
14:15 --> 14:17 [SPEAKER_03]: Which I thought was a little whatever.
14:17 --> 14:22 [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, it was kind of funny, but it was just like, it's totally unrealistic.
14:22 --> 14:29 [SPEAKER_03]: I thought the funniest part was what he was talking to his assistant and talking about her boyfriend.
14:29 --> 14:31 [SPEAKER_03]: And she was like, have you seen him?
14:31 --> 14:32 [SPEAKER_03]: He would kill me in the sea.
14:33 --> 14:59 [SPEAKER_02]: Right because he was asking he was trying to he was asking is this what would you do Yeah, and this is found out you're boyfriend Blake This because he's trying you know obviously trying to figure out what other people do in the situation um and Yeah, I don't know if I need to see this it's It's not worth the hour to have
15:00 --> 15:01 [SPEAKER_03]: you spend watching it.
15:01 --> 15:06 [SPEAKER_00]: Now, what do you say they drive based on what I would.
15:09 --> 15:11 [SPEAKER_00]: I would get annoyed at the spiral.
15:12 --> 15:18 [SPEAKER_00]: I would get annoyed that Pattinson was like a person and then suddenly spiraling out.
15:18 --> 15:27 [SPEAKER_00]: And I'm sure like you said a book here, a glance here from somebody else, and then he starts to, you know, I mean, it starts to happen in his fiancee complex.
15:27 --> 15:28 [SPEAKER_03]: completely different.
15:28 --> 15:28 [SPEAKER_03]: Exactly.
15:28 --> 15:28 [SPEAKER_03]: Exactly.
15:29 --> 15:30 [SPEAKER_02]: Is that not unrealistic though?
15:30 --> 15:35 [SPEAKER_03]: If you find it realistic, it's realistic, but I think it's presented an unrealistic manner.
15:36 --> 15:48 [SPEAKER_03]: It's presented to be cinematic, and no, if I just don't think the filmmakers did a great job at presenting the dilemma.
15:50 --> 15:53 [SPEAKER_00]: Did they at all try to make her just Oh, oh, I hold up.
15:53 --> 15:54 [SPEAKER_02]: Just like Jimmy's better to get on it.
15:54 --> 16:04 [SPEAKER_03]: We know how he feels about spoilers Oh my god, I thought he already knew about it I don't know we'll find out just not and now he hasn't seen it right.
16:04 --> 16:12 [SPEAKER_03]: I don't know if he knows what the is he is even on what the crux is Well, you know, yes, he has to turn on that whatever button.
16:12 --> 16:14 [SPEAKER_00]: He always Generator in the back.
16:14 --> 16:14 [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah
16:19 --> 16:20 [SPEAKER_00]: finish it thought you're on?
16:21 --> 16:28 [SPEAKER_00]: I was wondering if they, if the movie itself, not just Patence and tried to make her out into a darker character once everybody knew this.
16:28 --> 16:33 [SPEAKER_03]: No, no, no, anything completely automatically starts to see her is it?
16:33 --> 16:36 [SPEAKER_02]: Sure, yeah, that's what I started to see things that she does in a way.
16:37 --> 16:38 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he started doing it.
16:38 --> 16:39 [SPEAKER_02]: Holy.
16:39 --> 16:39 [SPEAKER_02]: Hey, Joseph.
16:40 --> 16:40 [SPEAKER_02]: Have you seen it?
16:41 --> 16:42 [SPEAKER_02]: Have you seen it drumming yet?
16:42 --> 16:44 [SPEAKER_02]: And do you plan it because we were talking about that before you got up?
16:45 --> 16:48 [SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to watch it just for that's wrong to me.
16:48 --> 16:49 [SPEAKER_01]: That's just a different one.
16:49 --> 16:50 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to have a different one.
16:50 --> 16:50 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to have a different one.
16:51 --> 16:52 [SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to have a different one.
