[00:01:16] Hello and welcome to the Radioactive Ramblings podcast. On today's episode, we are going to be
[00:01:22] covering the Amazon Prime video show Invincible. I'm one of your co-hosts, Aaron. And I am one
[00:01:29] of your other co-hosts, Chase. And today we're going to be covering episodes five through eight
[00:01:34] of season two of Invincible, otherwise known as The Rest of Season Two. Yeah, I'm your
[00:01:43] other co-host, Richard. But since Invincible has been out for a while, we're just going to do a two
[00:01:49] episode review of season two. This is the second of the two and there will be no spoiler for your
[00:01:55] like section at all because it has been out for a hot minute. And if you have not watched the
[00:02:00] second season of Invincible, this is your time to tune out if you do care about spoilers
[00:02:05] because we're going to head right into it. Now, Richard, you're a new voice on this podcast.
[00:02:12] You weren't with us in the first half. I was not. However, I am one of the, I'm Aaron's
[00:02:18] other co-hosts on the fallout lore series and we just finished recording our first episode yesterday.
[00:02:24] And that was fantastic. I'm happy to be here though. Yeah, we're happy to have you.
[00:02:31] Thank you. Happy's a little strong, but... All right, buddy. You're here. You're here now.
[00:02:38] I am here and you can't stop. Another voice to fill the void. Another voice in my head.
[00:02:46] Yeah, I got a lot of those. I don't know what's up with that. It's crazy.
[00:02:50] All right, let's get into episode five. So episode five opens up with Mark basically disemboweled,
[00:03:02] you know, bleeding out on the ground after his fight with the Viltramites. We see the ruins of
[00:03:08] Thraxa and we see him get, he like hobbles back to like the capital area of Thraxa with
[00:03:17] the help of some other Thraxans. He feels like, once again we see Mark put the weight of the world
[00:03:24] on his shoulders. He feels like it's his fault that this has happened to Thraxans. He talks to
[00:03:31] the queen, his brother's mother, Nolan's second wife about how he thinks the
[00:03:41] what happened to Thraxa is all of his and his father's fault. It's not his fault,
[00:03:45] it's definitely his father's fault. But yeah, he kind of feels that pain once again,
[00:03:53] similar to Chicago where even though it's not his fault, basically 100%,
[00:03:58] his father's fault again, he still thinks for some reason that the blame lies with him.
[00:04:05] But then we see Thraxa is being rebuilt now with the help of Mark. He stayed longer on Thraxa to
[00:04:15] help them reconstruct their nation after all of the damages. We see Nualzot, the guy who
[00:04:23] was dressed as Sam Stog. He's an old man now. We see Oliver, Nolan's younger brother. We see
[00:04:33] his mom is also old now. And then for a quick second, we cut to earth where the guardians
[00:04:41] are facing off against a villain called Omnipotis. But we don't really see much of that when we cut
[00:04:48] back and basically Nolan's second wife. I forget her name every time. But she's Andresa. Yeah.
[00:04:58] She basically begs Mark to take Oliver with him back to earth because she knows that if she stays
[00:05:08] on Thraxa, he will outlive everyone he was raised with, everyone he loves. And she knows that's a
[00:05:16] solitary and sad life. And she kind of understands the longer length of other races'
[00:05:24] lives now knowing Nolan and raising Oliver. Yeah, you know, it's very sad that she has to ask this of
[00:05:35] Mark because like she says in the episode, you have this situation where this kid is going to grow
[00:05:42] up and not even all the people he knew now but generations and generations of Thraxans
[00:05:49] are going to come and go and he's still going to be a kid. No, yeah. As he's a toddler, everyone
[00:05:56] that's taken care of him will be dead by the time he's like a normal child. And then by the time
[00:06:02] he's a teenager, all of those people will be dead. And by the time he's an adult, all of those
[00:06:07] people, it's like crazy. Yeah. And I feel like he really won't have familial bonds.
[00:06:15] Like yeah, sure he'll have a friend but I think they said they lived for about a year.
[00:06:21] Yeah. We kind of just in the comics you kind of see a little exploration of that
[00:06:28] a little bit. But yeah. All right. And then we see Mark head back to earth and he kind of surprises
[00:06:36] his mom when she gets back to their house. And she's like, I missed you but it's been two
[00:06:42] months. We learned that Mark has been gone for two whole months. And I mean, just knowing that
[00:06:50] that's kind of crazy. Like think about he just started college. He's missed two straight months
[00:06:55] of college off the rip. His girlfriend like he hasn't seen her in two months. He hasn't
[00:07:02] spoken to her in two months. His mom of course she's I mean we know she's been having a rough
[00:07:08] time. Hasn't seen her like it's just crazy. Yeah, I we say this a lot on our little invincible reviews.
[00:07:21] But I feel bad for Debbie. Her son was just gone for two months. Yeah, good God. She really is
[00:07:29] like the strong I feel and I think Erin you said this last episode like she is the most
[00:07:33] emotionally at least resilient character that we've seen in the show so far like she really
[00:07:39] she really goes through it. Yeah, to not break down when your son is missing for two months.
[00:07:46] I'm sure that Cecil gave some sort of idea to Debbie like oh he's off planet. Don't worry
[00:07:51] about it. He's okay. But still your kid is millions of miles away on an alien planet.
[00:07:59] You have no idea why or what the situation is. It's got to be so stressful. Yeah, and then he
[00:08:05] immediately like springs the Oliver news on her and she's like oh my fucking God I have to take
[00:08:10] care of Nolan's other kid. Yeah, I do feel like she has a pretty good I mean given
[00:08:17] everything else that's happened with Nolan especially the whole the whole pet line at
[00:08:21] the end of the first season like she really does a good job with like taking the news I feel
[00:08:27] like because she's still I mean she's a little reluctant I feel like but she does pretty much
[00:08:32] immediately jump to taking care of Oliver. Yeah, I mean we see later when she's taking care of him
[00:08:39] later on in the season like she even though she has no blood ties to Oliver she has no duty
[00:08:49] to Oliver even she doesn't owe Oliver anything. I mean yeah he's a kid he's innocent and
[00:08:54] everything he doesn't deserve to be abandoned but she doesn't have to take care of him. She does a good
[00:09:00] job of taking care of him. She takes care of him like he's her own so I think we really see Debbie
[00:09:08] as like just we see her as the real reason that Mark is good here and I think that kind of goes
[00:09:15] into some of the ancient Levy stuff we'll talk about. And not to get ahead of the outline too
[00:09:23] much because I believe this is in a later episode but with Oliver and Debbie you even see the argument
[00:09:33] between Debbie and Cecil where they're trying to figure out who's going to take care of the kid
[00:09:37] and she brings up that point of I'm the one who raised Mark to be strong enough to defy his
[00:09:43] father. I've got this you know like yeah and not only that but she kind of knows Cecil is not
[00:09:51] the straight and narrow guy everyone thinks he is. She knows that he has some ulterior motives
[00:09:58] he's probably going to try and turn Oliver into a weapon and she knows that she has to protect him
[00:10:06] so yeah but yeah okay the next scene from this episode is where Donald confronts Cecil
[00:10:17] about his cyborg membership you know the fact that he is not 100 man anymore so Cecil kind of tells him
[00:10:29] like he's died like I think like hundreds of thousands maybe I think it's like hundreds
[00:10:37] like of times in the field and every time he's like had his memory erased and now he's like
[00:10:44] I think like less he's like less than like 20% like person anymore. It's insane the fact that
[00:10:57] he's just pulling up to Cecil with his arm cut open and you can see the blood like I guess fake
[00:11:04] blood it would be right out of his well I think it's like real blood and flat like obviously
[00:11:09] it's like probably lap grown but I think it's like real blood and flesh like it's like the terminator
[00:11:14] shit or it's like yeah got it so he's uh got the fusion of flesh and machine going on it's not just
[00:11:25] fake skin which is I kind of thought it was like fake skin fake blood they had pumping through his
[00:11:30] body but that makes a little bit more sense because that technology seems like it would exist in
[00:11:35] the invincible universe. Yeah definitely in that the funny the funny flooring room
[00:11:40] or whatever chemical it was. Yeah okay and our next scene Mark had he's finally back at college
[00:11:48] he learns that he's on academic probation he has to speak to the dean from his roommate
[00:11:53] his roommate's like yeah I tried to cover for you but you're gone for two months like
[00:11:58] what do you want me to do about that um and then as Mark is heading to see Amber Cecil
[00:12:05] like teleports right in front of him and basically they have like a stand standoffish argument
[00:12:13] Mark tells Cecil that he's not gonna let him take Oliver Cecil's like I already have my guys on
[00:12:19] on their way you're not going to be able to stop them um but Mark's like fine I'll check in
[00:12:26] and work for you tomorrow um so don't take Oliver and then uh Mark was I think he said Cecil was like
[00:12:39] we needed you and you were like you left and we needed you and Mark was like what do you mean
[00:12:44] you are the guardians like everything should be fine like you guys can handle me not being there
[00:12:50] and he was like the guardians almost got wiped out by a omnipotence and then it cuts to like a
[00:12:56] scene of omnipotence like beating the bricks off the guardians and a little scene where Shapesmith
[00:13:02] gets knocked on his ass and quickly he turns back into his Martian form but uh goes back and I
[00:13:10] think Black Samson sees him yeah uh he's not doing a very good job at hiding the whole Martian
[00:13:18] thing he both seems really suspicious and I know that his teammates are looking at him like what
[00:13:25] what's your deal man like why are you acting so weird and then also that little slip up it definitely
[00:13:31] gives him away a little bit too much yeah and then we cut back to Mark who heads over and sees Amber
[00:13:39] but she she's really happy to see him but she also already has some friends over and you can see
[00:13:46] that the friends are like they're not too happy with Mark they're like oh so your boyfriend is real
[00:13:52] and like like they're like this guy's kind of an asshole because he never sees his girlfriend
[00:14:01] but yeah we kind of see their relationship deteriorating a little bit
[00:14:07] and our next scene goes to Donald again where he's he's basically like he's in the lab where
[00:14:14] they're like manufacturing the cyborg like skeleton bodies and he has like a PTSD moment as
[00:14:23] like getting choked out by one of the cyborg skeletons or something I couldn't tell if that was
[00:14:28] like real or not I think it was just a flashback or yeah yeah I don't think that was real
[00:14:36] yeah just like some PTSD brought stuff all right and we cut to the guardians where Rudy is trying to
[00:14:46] help Amanda train oh wait no I think this is I think this is when he wants to like fix it right
[00:14:56] yeah this is where um Amanda is training with duplicate she's blindfolded and then
[00:15:03] Rudy's like tells immortal like hey you know like Amanda's powers like you shouldn't use them so
[00:15:09] lightly because they quite literally reverse her age every single time she uses them and then Amanda
[00:15:15] starts like tweaking out she's like I don't need you're not my keeper basically like we went on
[00:15:21] one date you're this controlling like what and like I was like I understand like her being like you
[00:15:28] don't need to like you're not my dad like calm down but like at the same time like I think
[00:15:34] everyone can tell he has the best intentions in mind and he just he like he's trying to help her out
[00:15:40] like I like he's he has a valid point there like and then we we see that there's uh Donald finds
[00:15:49] that there's a Mars ship headed towards earth and Cecil brings it to the guardians and they're
[00:15:57] kind of analyzing what's going on and they find out that shape smith or no they don't find out they
[00:16:02] all know that shape smith is a black samson yeah yeah um and and so they like find out and he
[00:16:14] basically exposes that he like sabotage the astronaut to go to earth yeah because they're like
[00:16:22] where's the where's the real I don't remember the guy's name but where's the real whatever his name is
[00:16:26] and he's like um uh he I left him on Mars uh he was like oh my people were right behind us but we
[00:16:34] see in the flashback that he morphed his arm into like a baseball bat hit him in the head
[00:16:39] and broke his helmet it's too good uh poor guy got scooped up by the sequins but it's so funny that
[00:16:49] shape smith tries to play that off like it's not his fault he's like oh no they they would have gotten
[00:16:54] him it's all good don't worry yeah totally whatever the very very odd morals right there shape
[00:17:01] smith yeah he's an interesting little fella bro could have morphed on to like hit the back
[00:17:07] of the astronaut until like a into like a little like piece of wiring or something yeah
[00:17:13] he could have been like the he could have been like the patch on his shoulder because I remember
[00:17:17] like yeah that was how we knew that it was the the Martian because they showed in the first season
[00:17:22] like the the patch changing the actual flag it's a cool little detail I didn't remember that until
[00:17:29] you just brought that uh back up yeah I I had rewatched like the whole series before the
[00:17:35] the second batch came out because there was just such a still long hiatus and then in our next scene
[00:17:42] we see rex and eve rex comes to eve's window she lets him in and they they talk we kind of see a
[00:17:48] little character development from rex here I feel like we see he obviously he's not the greatest
[00:17:54] guy but he's he's doing his best to cheer up eve because she's still down after what happened
[00:18:04] in the previous episodes with the I wouldn't say misuse of her powers but I guess we're a mishap
[00:18:12] with her powers without foresight maybe um but yeah um and then we see Cecil calls mark in to help
[00:18:23] with the sec wids and the guardians including mark and eve split up with mark and eve and all of
[00:18:32] the guardians that basically have flight and super strength and shape smith go to space to confront the
[00:18:42] um Martians and the rest being rex shrink ray and duplicate go to fight off the lizard league
[00:18:50] oh yeah rudy also goes to space to fight off the Martians um he originally wasn't going to
[00:18:58] but he made the case to Cecil that they needed him there for his uh technological prowess I think
[00:19:05] it was because he wanted to protect monster gorel if i'm remembering correctly yeah well his
[00:19:10] technological prowess does end up saving them so so yeah um we see the the guardians intercept
[00:19:18] a ship with a absolute fuckload of sec wids yeah just absolutely crazy and at the top leading
[00:19:28] the charge is the poor astronaut man under the second control and he's got them like
[00:19:35] all over his body it's just uh uh yeah they look freaky as hell yeah yeah and then we cut back to
[00:19:44] the other group of guardians where they intercept the lizard league and basically all get their
[00:19:50] asses handed to them except rex kind of clutches up and eliminates them all except for I think
[00:20:00] is it like king lizard yeah king lizard at the end we see a scene where he puts a gun to
[00:20:06] the back of rex's head and it cuts away to allen the alien with his life support off
[00:20:14] but he wakes up bigger and stronger than ever and Thedys tells him why he turned his life support off
[00:20:22] because either allen would die or become strong enough to truly be a threat against the viltramites
[00:20:30] and Thedys also reveals that he is in fact a viltramite and the first ever to rebel
[00:20:36] against the viltramite empire you think that uh Thedys actually knew that or is he just making
[00:20:42] shit up so that allen doesn't get his full the life support no he definitely knew it because when we I mean
[00:20:50] in the comics and in the show when we like go back Thedys and the coalition helped the
[00:20:56] unopens basically create um allen remember when they when the unopens like the remnants escaped
[00:21:05] from the viltramites and they did all the experiments they helped them create allen so like
[00:21:10] he definitely knew of allen's powers and I mean like I don't know it's not really detailed that well
[00:21:16] in the show but in the comics it's like allen's powers is basically like he's like he gets like
[00:21:25] strength from like getting like beat up in a fight so like every time he gets his ass handed to
[00:21:31] him he comes back stronger dude it's literally it's literally just dragon ball I swear with that
[00:21:38] you know that's quite literally what it is I was gonna compare it to that but I don't think Aaron knew
[00:21:44] I have not seen dragon ball so I wouldn't have got the reference I think it's called like a zen
[00:21:49] Kai boost I remember that because that was in the risk of rain too mod the goku mod
[00:21:58] I'm not versed in in all this this guy unbelievable calls himself a lore master
[00:22:05] all this himself a lore master and he doesn't know jack daniels
[00:22:11] oh no I don't know jack Daniels all right yeah I'm I'm sure I've been to beps city
[00:22:18] more like Bev metropolis true okay now
[00:22:25] all right episode six all right so in episode six we pick up where we left off with the lizard
[00:22:32] league and wrecks where we see the head of the lizard league holding the gun to rex's head
[00:22:39] some threats are exchanged back and forth and eventually rex tells what it's king lizard right
[00:22:46] is the the head of the yeah some cheesy shit man they're they're goofy exactly so he tells
[00:22:54] king lizard just pull the trigger and that's exactly what king lizard does uh rex gets a
[00:23:01] shot to the skull and this shot to the skull kick starts his character development too
[00:23:08] which we're gonna get into it really does dude I guess losing part of his brain made him a better
[00:23:16] person maybe he lost the misogynistic part of his skull when king lizard shot him in the brain
[00:23:23] that is an interesting theory I'm gonna go try that out real quick and see what happens
[00:23:28] so yeah uh after being shot in the head rex pulls off some crazy moves he basically
[00:23:40] goes into full instinct mode and while his brains are coming out of his skull
[00:23:47] goes defeats the lizard league and then a bunch of agents from see from the government
[00:23:53] uh sort of rush in and are like sir are you okay and rex insists that he's fine as he collapses
[00:24:03] with a missing appendage and bullet through the head so that uh was definitely a lot yeah
[00:24:12] I know I'm jumping around the outline I'm sorry but thank you I feel like it's I feel like that
[00:24:18] we can jump around a little bit here because the those two scenes go pretty congruently with each other
[00:24:25] yeah no I was I loved like the whole everything with rex and like these two episodes I remember
[00:24:31] I was texting you Aaron like oh my oh my god what the fuck like why yeah exactly because you know
[00:24:37] it seemed like he was gonna he was gonna turn a new leaf and then I thought he was you know
[00:24:42] dad and that was that I don't know that he's not for those of you listening as I was going through
[00:24:50] that first part chase wrote a note saying me when Aaron skips around in the outline so I uh I tend to
[00:24:59] either skip things entirely or skip around when chase writes these nice little outlines for us
[00:25:05] I put all this hard work to shame better not do that like a golden ring one too buddy
[00:25:10] or we're gonna have to do that on the fallout lore all right uh the scene after rex gets 360 no
[00:25:18] scoped in the forehead um is that wild the guardian we see the guardians in space are able or they're
[00:25:27] fighting the sec wids uh at one point eve gets got by the sec wids and I was like and I didn't
[00:25:35] remember this happening when I read the comics I completely forgot but for a second I was like
[00:25:39] holy crap wait eve's powers are kind of crazy what if they use them to absolutely destroy the
[00:25:47] guardians right here but they didn't they didn't have time to get them off um I think Rudy used
[00:25:53] like an EMP like device to stop them from controlling her and they they are able to defeat
[00:26:02] the sec wids through the use of Rudy basically putting himself in very much harm's way uh turning
[00:26:10] his suit basically like the core of his suit into a giant EMP bomb to deactivate all the
[00:26:16] sec wids in the area um and when when he finishes making that he's like I need someone fast
[00:26:24] to deliver this to the host of the sec wids and immortal and mark both rush to it and mark
[00:26:32] immortal stop being stubborn and give it to me so because you know I'm faster and stronger than you
[00:26:38] and immortals like reluctantly almost doesn't give it to mark and he does end up giving it to mark
[00:26:46] and mark is able to to splash that wet like water straight into the net nothing but net you
[00:26:54] know um he he gets they get it done but and they have to flee the Martians because for some reason
[00:27:03] the Martians are like super hostile towards humans um I mean I can understand now that they
[00:27:10] basically got the the Martians enslaved by the sec wids but they were they were enslaving
[00:27:17] the sec wids you know like is it all is it all black and white here you know are the sec wids truly
[00:27:25] evil yeah I mean I don't know when Shapesmith was talking about how since the sec wids can't pierce
[00:27:42] the skin of the the Martians they just use them as their surface yeah like that's evil
[00:27:52] yeah I was like that's not great why are we doing that just just let him be just let him be yeah
[00:28:01] while we're here chase I had a question for you since you've read the comics I don't really understand
[00:28:06] how the sec wids got to this point where they're like ordering the Martians around and having
[00:28:13] the Martians pilot the ship for them if they can't penetrate the Martian skin and take
[00:28:18] control over their minds I don't really I don't get why okay so basically you know how we saw how
[00:28:27] there's like a tsunami of them now that they have a host when they don't have a host they don't have
[00:28:32] a hive mind when yeah so when they have a host they have a hive mind that's why like remember
[00:28:39] when Shapesmith was like um like trying to protect Rudy but they're like piling together to like
[00:28:46] drill through him and like get under his like like stuff like yeah that's why so like normally like
[00:28:55] if they don't have a host like they're just like I don't know like animalistic I would say like I mean
[00:29:02] obviously smarter than animals if they can be servants but like they're not smart enough to
[00:29:08] all come together and overpower the Martians got it okay that makes more sense okay and it
[00:29:15] makes sense why they don't do anything once they don't have a host okay all right so as we move on
[00:29:22] we are hold on one second well what we see we do when the guardians are fleeing we do see a quick
[00:29:28] just another moment where Rudy and Amanda kind of have another argument um Rudy being I would say
[00:29:36] a little bit controlling again but then then again we all know he has like zero social skills
[00:29:42] because this is like the first time he's ever like truly interacted with people in real life
[00:29:48] yeah he's he's had his stolen DNA body for like less than a year now yeah literally
[00:29:55] it was not very good at being human who is honestly but yeah so next up we have Cecil um pulls up to
[00:30:04] Debbie and Mark's house and he offers to help raise Oliver in a totally great environment for a child
[00:30:13] because we know Cecil obviously just has that uh mothering instinct in him um and Debbie kind of
[00:30:22] turns him down and just says like you know she knows that Cecil's up to up to something because
[00:30:29] he always is and she thinks that he needs Mark or not Mark Oliver needs to grow up with
[00:30:35] what one with Mark is that he has a sibling that also has powers that could help him through like
[00:30:43] understanding how to use them train him all that but also so that uh Oliver can like socialize and
[00:30:52] have people skills and not just be a super weapon for Cecil essentially
[00:30:59] yeah I mean I'm imagining that if you've seen the boys um
[00:31:09] I'm sort of imagining the environment that Cecil would raise Oliver in as sort of like
[00:31:15] the environment that they raised Homelander in like growing up in a lab yeah so it's a good thing
[00:31:22] that Debbie fought to have sort of custody I guess over Oliver instead of leaving Cecil to raise Oliver
[00:31:30] because that just would have been awful super villain in the making if Cecil took that kid
[00:31:37] he didn't really off he didn't like he wasn't like we'll take him away he was like we have like a
[00:31:43] care like a daycare facility for which like I didn't think he was like being too weird here
[00:31:50] because like I mean like he was talking about how like they have other superheroes that work with them
[00:31:56] who put leave their kids there so I feel like he was like trying to be like genuine here but I do
[00:32:01] also think that if they left Oliver in the clutches of Cecil he would turn out to be more of a
[00:32:07] super weapon than anything else. Portal is mourning duplicate and he seems to feel differently
[00:32:15] about the loss of duplicate than he has about losing people in the past. He doesn't express this yet
[00:32:22] but you can tell he's really shaken up for someone that's been alive for thousands of years
[00:32:27] he's definitely been through loss he's definitely loved people that as he's grown older or not I
[00:32:34] guess as he hasn't grown older and they have he's lost them and this one just hit him a lot harder
[00:32:41] maybe because it felt like he finally found someone that understood him
[00:32:46] either way it's a little bit strange that they were together to me still I've said this in our first
[00:32:51] podcast on invincible that I wasn't a fan of their relationship but yeah I think she's in her
[00:32:57] like early 20s but that that's not much much better no not at all I mean he's been alive for
[00:33:06] thousands of years so relative to him she she is a child like relative to him anyone's a child but
[00:33:15] yeah I yeah she's she's quite literally almost an actual child that too much so we get a little bit
[00:33:28] of mark and amber content they are oh my god bless their hearts they're really trying to
[00:33:34] make this relationship work out um this whole season I don't know did either of you feel like at
[00:33:42] any point that they could work things out and really make their relationship happen um no
[00:33:50] I don't think that they could honestly as soon as he got back from the two month that
[00:33:56] new is over but I mean I read the comics so yeah but their relationship in the comics is
[00:34:06] honestly I would say significantly different than in the show I think in this show they have a much
[00:34:14] better and relationship and more understanding of each other in the comics it's like
[00:34:21] like amber is just like not a good girlfriend I will say I had a little little small bit of hope
[00:34:28] when like he came back but then as soon as they went on like the the date to the coffee shop or
[00:34:32] whatever and it was just the most awkward like almost cringy scene to watch like I it was this
[00:34:40] had to be over yeah that's the scenery here no we were talking about yeah I thought it was
[00:34:47] no no I thought it was the last episode that's my bad though but yeah no last episode they didn't
[00:34:51] get to go on a date oh wait yeah because he they're like talking or whatever and then
[00:34:56] no he's gonna go talk to her but then Cecil talk blocks and yeah but then they like talk in her
[00:35:01] bedroom for like a little bit and that's it but yeah I think we kind of we really see the
[00:35:09] downfall of their relationship rapid decay of their relationship right here um and I mean
[00:35:17] I don't I'm not trying to invalidate Amber's feelings because it's fair for her to feel this way you
[00:35:22] know like even though what Mark is doing is so much important more important than their relationship and
[00:35:29] however sad that may be in however cold that may be but I mean I think I think he is kind of right
[00:35:38] not not completely in assuming all of the responsibility he does throughout the show
[00:35:44] but he is right he's very gifted you know and he as someone with those gifts it is kind of his duty to
[00:35:53] go out and do good with them you know and they mark and amber talk about this later but
[00:36:01] it's it's like every second he spends with amber that's a second he's spending like not saving
[00:36:09] someone yeah they I do remember they get a lot more into it I think it was episode seven of the
[00:36:15] season it's like episode six and seven but yeah mostly episode seven yeah we we kind of near the end
[00:36:23] of episode seven they really get into it but yeah um our next scene we see Mark going to visit Rex
[00:36:31] he kind of has a heart to heart with Rex we see they kind of bond a little bit they get a little
[00:36:35] burrowy um we see Rex is he's he's recovering um if that's what you can call it uh we get and Mark
[00:36:45] runs into Eve when he's leaving after visiting Rex I think or maybe he runs into Eve as she's leaving
[00:36:52] because I don't know I actually know she she stays after he leaves exactly um but she kind of talks
[00:36:59] to Mark a little bit we get a little background on Rex he has like a very sad backstory um yeah uh
[00:37:08] and then we see a little scene where even Rex are just looking at I think it's like furniture
[00:37:15] furnishing like magazines because uh Rex never really grew up in a proper home so he enjoys
[00:37:23] looking at like that stuff because it lets him think about living in a proper home which is
[00:37:29] like really sad I really liked like I didn't like this scene because like it's awful it's terrible for
[00:37:36] for him like that his character had to go through that obviously but yeah humanizes him yeah it
[00:37:41] humanizes him and it it starts to like plant those seeds of like character development like
[00:37:46] we're getting to know him better we're understanding that he's not just like he's
[00:37:51] yeah he's not just the cocky asshole I don't know he obviously didn't grow up in like a
[00:37:58] a normal situation and like I think it humanizes him a lot more because there are people who grow
[00:38:02] up in a you know picture perfect white picket fences all that crap and like they're terrible
[00:38:10] people I mean you know I just I just feel like it's really good for his character and we really
[00:38:19] do get more into that later we move on to debbie interviewing some candidates for baby sitters
[00:38:27] we see her interviewing this older woman who seems to be very qualified and then she accuses the woman
[00:38:35] of being one of Cecil's spies and then as soon as she accuses this woman of being a spy and sends
[00:38:42] her away and brings in the next interviewee the next person immediately comes up to the door
[00:38:47] and admits to being sent by Cecil so she might have misjudged that first baby sitter a little bit
[00:38:54] but made for a pretty funny scene yeah and she kind of just like they have a small conversation
[00:39:02] and mark not mark shit I gotta stop doing that it's the hair Oliver there we go Oliver um is
[00:39:09] like playing with something that he I don't know if it's that something that he shouldn't be
[00:39:13] or whatever but like she is gentle and like hands him a toy or something and then when he takes the
[00:39:20] toy and she takes the I don't know keys or whatever away from him and like while she's doing this
[00:39:26] they're talking about like oh yeah so I was sent by Cecil but I'm you're my boss not Cecil like
[00:39:35] I'm not gonna do something without your say so and all that and prevent presents herself as more of a
[00:39:41] I mean a more motherly figure which is someone that you'd want taking care of a kid at least I think
[00:39:47] yeah I mean we I think we see that she's a caretaker before she's a government operative
[00:39:56] yeah which is fantastic you know even though she was sent by Cecil she does tell Debbie no matter
[00:40:03] what I'm working for you I'm not working for Cecil you and your son are what is important Oliver's
[00:40:10] what's important Cecil is secondary like it's it's unethical for me to act in any other way which
[00:40:19] is I'm surprised that Cecil even sent her because I'm sure that he has like background information
[00:40:25] on what her morals would be but it's great that she's like this and is willing to do that
[00:40:33] then we cut to Cecil arriving at Eve's treehouse and once again Cecil makes the offer for Eve to join
[00:40:43] the Guardians even though she doesn't accept she does tell him if he ever needs anyone to help
[00:40:49] save the world she will of course always be there she's not going to give up doing this whole
[00:40:54] superhero thing but she just can't be a part of the Guardians yeah um then we get Mark asks
[00:41:04] art for relationship advice arts the guy who makes all the costumes voiced by Mark Hamill love him
[00:41:10] and then at the same time we get Amber and Eve are talking about their relationship and we get
[00:41:16] this kind of like the parallel scene where like you know Mark's talking and then whatever he's
[00:41:22] about to you know finish his sentence with is where Amber's picks up and it I don't know it's pretty
[00:41:29] much the same conversation it's just you know I mean obviously parallels but it's you know Mark and
[00:41:35] Art and Amber and Eve pretty much saying the same thing and I think they both are and Eve both
[00:41:42] tell Mark and Amber like why aren't you you got free time right now what the hell are you doing
[00:41:46] talking to me go go see Mark go see Amber you know yeah sorry not to get off topic a little bit
[00:41:54] but okay I just searched it up to make sure because I remember being confused when they went to Adam
[00:42:01] Eve's treehouse in the comics I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be in like Africa like oh yeah
[00:42:09] that's that's somewhere yeah and that's so random yeah because in the comics I think she was like
[00:42:16] having like a whole arc where she was like helping like rebuild stuff in Africa like I'm glad that they
[00:42:27] decided to drop drop the white savior arc in favor of helping rebuild Chicago instead because that would
[00:42:34] be uh that'd be an interesting way for them to go with that well it's because like in the
[00:42:41] comic she had like that whole arc where she was like trying to get away from like the whole
[00:42:44] superhero stuff but um but yeah um yeah I remember being like how the hell did Amber walk here
[00:42:55] yeah Amber walked to Africa no she just hit her boy Cecil up it was like hey teleport me real
[00:43:02] quick and he just did her boy Cecil I don't think she's spoken to him once I would hope not
[00:43:10] I love Cecil though he's great he's just a little guy but yeah we cut to William and Rick
[00:43:18] Rick being William's boyfriend the guy from season one of invincible who got turned into a re-anom man
[00:43:28] but yeah he's he's he's back to himself or so we think um but yeah he's like he's like in bed
[00:43:37] tweaking out because he's like I don't I don't remember anything I'm not myself or he's not in bed but
[00:43:43] he's yeah he's on a walk with willy I mean he's like I don't how am I me if I don't remember
[00:43:48] anything about myself yeah and we get a little scene where Mark's reading um a little bit about
[00:43:55] his a little into his dad's books um yeah and we get like we get the guy with like the really
[00:44:04] long gun barrel I don't remember what it's called I think like the infinity blaster or ray or something
[00:44:11] um and a lot of them are like they're able to you know the infinity rays able to kill
[00:44:18] anything it hits and it just goes through space forever there's a planet of like I guess monsters
[00:44:25] you'd call them I mean they're aliens but they're super strong because the gravity is so high on
[00:44:30] this planet and I think that's when Mark kind of realizes that his dad's last words to him
[00:44:37] before he got taken off no no he doesn't realize he doesn't realize yeah um
[00:44:44] so Alan comes in in this scene and attempts to recruit Mark to join in the fight against the
[00:44:51] viltrum empire he wants to bring him back to meet Phaedus but Mark is like hey listen
[00:44:57] I can't just leave my life behind things are rough with my girlfriend right now
[00:45:03] I finally feel like I'm in a place where maybe I can start to fix that I need to fix my grades
[00:45:09] all this other stuff plus the fact that earth needs him to to do the whole superhero thing
[00:45:15] but he does tell Alan about um these books and Alan determines that these are all ways to
[00:45:24] hurt a viltrumite so Alan scans the books and Mark tells him before he leaves to go back to
[00:45:31] Thaedus that once the time comes to really fight the viltrum empire Mark will be there but until
[00:45:39] then he just can't be a part of the fight yet but as soon as they figure out when and where
[00:45:46] this is going to happen when the real war starts he will be there to help before the episode
[00:45:52] ends we cut back to the astronaut who is um trying to get his home back in order after
[00:46:00] Shapesmith absolutely wrecked it left rotting food all over the place yeah
[00:46:10] all these old like takeout containers that just smell awful and yeah poor poor astronaut
[00:46:20] um yeah whatever whatever your name is astronaut and before we cut to black and move on to the next
[00:46:28] episode this man goes over to his sink and goes to vomit which presumably we thought was going
[00:46:37] to be from the fact that he had all of this rotting takeout food around him but then we
[00:46:42] see him barf out a sequit and now there is the threat of the sequits having their host back
[00:46:51] and there is a sequit on earth very ominous all right I think it attaches to him at like the last
[00:46:59] like it literally attaches to him and that's the screen going black um and uh yeah that's
[00:47:05] totally not gonna be important later in the show definitely not well I can tell you one thing
[00:47:12] it's not going to be important in the rest of this season but it'll come back later yep don't see
[00:47:18] brother for the rest of the season all right let's move on to episode seven and we find Amber and
[00:47:30] Mark still trying to make things work out together uh they're at Comic Con together and they see a
[00:47:37] bunch of people dressed in invincible costumes and mark gets very embarrassed by this he's like oh my
[00:47:43] god is that actually what I look like and uh Amber sort of makes fun of him a little bit and they go
[00:47:52] on and go through comic con on their little date crazy choice for for a date when you haven't seen
[00:47:59] each other in a long time at comic con yeah it does get pretty meta here too because they um
[00:48:05] you know he talks to his like favorite comic artist who's the guy who draws seance dog
[00:48:11] uh and he I remember they're they're like oh yeah it takes forever to animate stuff and I don't remember
[00:48:17] the whole thing because it was a good like five minutes and there's a lot of words and they just
[00:48:23] like went over different styles and examples of why it takes so long to animate stuff and how to
[00:48:30] like cut corners a little bit here in there and I think that's about it yeah re-watching that
[00:48:36] kind of uh pissed me off because because motherfuckers took absolutely forever to release the second half
[00:48:47] of that season acting like they didn't already have it done um and then they tacked ads onto it
[00:48:56] so when I went back to re-watch when I went back dude every time I go back to re-watch there's
[00:49:02] four ads dude I when I went back to re-watch for this outline there was three ad breaks per episode
[00:49:11] and each of them had four ads oh yeah I that's what happened to me because I I only just got on the
[00:49:19] gen v uh grind and just finished it actually last week great show but uh yeah a lot a lot of ads
[00:49:27] very unfortunate yeah amazon prime video definitely their full rate is glazed over their eyes
[00:49:38] yeah we're literally in fallout guys one of the bombs dropping so at the end of their little
[00:49:42] comic con excursion or I guess in the middle of their comic con excursion Eve calls Mark and tells
[00:49:49] him that Rex has gone missing from the hospital and he needs to go help track him down and
[00:49:56] see what he's up to since Eve is otherwise indisposed with another villain so Mark reluctantly tells Amber
[00:50:03] that you know I'm sorry Rex is missing like I I gotta go and she of course is understanding
[00:50:12] if not I'm sure she's annoyed by the whole situation but she handles everything very well
[00:50:19] she handles all of the being ditched stuff very well and throughout their relationship
[00:50:27] so yeah Mark goes and helps Rex to take down a villain called Octobos and throughout the course
[00:50:36] of this Rex is kind of struggling but at the end he convinces Mark to let him take down Octobos
[00:50:44] he says come on man like I I really need a win here I need something to prove to me that I can be a
[00:50:50] superhero again and then he whips out his new arm laser cannon yeah that that's crazy but awesome I'm
[00:51:00] I'm sure he's gonna utilize it later and it's gonna be cool as hell but I think that's
[00:51:04] all we see of it this season yeah he was even like oh my god I should have led with that thing
[00:51:10] cool as hell though I love arm cannons I don't know why they're just so silly
[00:51:16] I know in cyberpunk their fun to play with yeah oh yeah so then we go to Rudy and Amanda doing some
[00:51:23] training and I believe this is where Rudy has her inside of a sort of device that'll let her
[00:51:32] control a robot monster girl from like remotely so that she doesn't have to transform every time
[00:51:39] or at the very least doesn't have to transform while she's training and in the process of this fight
[00:51:45] she destroys one of the drones and Rudy makes a comment about do you know how expensive those
[00:51:50] things are you can't be destroying those um yeah and this is the scene that Richard was talking
[00:51:58] about earlier where bulletproof and black sampson are talking up above while watching Rudy and
[00:52:04] monster girl training and they're talking about how the guardians are just not a whole lot right now
[00:52:12] they're they're not the best superhero team on earth and sampson tries to convince him that
[00:52:19] their strength comes from the fact that they're a family the they're bond with one another is
[00:52:25] what really makes them the best superhero team not the fact that they are the strongest
[00:52:29] but the fact that they have that bond and can accomplish anything together which was very
[00:52:34] very touching yeah but bulletproof is kind of hating on the guard like the new guardians for a minute
[00:52:40] there i mean he's got some valid points oh no he's got valid points like the the thing about Rudy or
[00:52:48] robot whatever you want to call him like cloning himself into a small into younger racks so that
[00:52:54] he can date monster girl like that that one's completely fair that's just a very strange dynamic
[00:53:03] and so then we move on to the next scene where we see Cecil and the immortal having a meeting
[00:53:11] and the immortal decides that after everything that happened with duplicate he just can't
[00:53:16] continue on as the leader of the guardians he needs some time off he doesn't feel like himself
[00:53:23] this one really hit him hard he he feels like he can't do the job anymore and maybe some time off
[00:53:29] really would be best for him although Cecil doesn't take that news very well he's like dude what the
[00:53:34] fuck are you talking about you can't quit but at the end of the day it's not up to him so after
[00:53:42] Cecil leaves the meeting he offers Rudy the job once again of being the leader of the
[00:53:48] guardians and i think here immortal does make some good points though he's like i'm unstable right now
[00:53:54] like i almost cost us the fight with the secwids by not trusting mark and i almost fucking started
[00:54:01] a war with the coalition by trying to beat up alan like i mean alan would have kicked his ass but
[00:54:10] yeah alan's crazy now at least he has that sort of awareness where he
[00:54:17] is able to look back and not be like yeah i was kind of a fucking idiot
[00:54:22] i think that that scene specifically too is supposed to give us more of like a
[00:54:26] oh my god like he actually has been around and working on himself for however many years he's
[00:54:31] been alive because like there are i mean we've all lived it there are a lot of people that
[00:54:35] don't have self-awareness uh and i definitely think that that obviously comes out like you
[00:54:41] yeah honestly i don't know the tiktok brain rot just sucked all the self-awareness out of me all right
[00:54:51] i blame erin for what he sends me i don't send you anything brain rotted jason i don't know what
[00:54:56] you're talking about that's a lie yeah it's not a jason it just is brain rot if i open one more
[00:55:03] guinatar reel or tiktok i'm gonna leave it
[00:55:12] so we cut to rick and he's still not feeling himself but more interestingly in this set of
[00:55:22] scenes we have donald demanding to know what's gone on and he ends up getting to watch all of
[00:55:31] his past deaths and he sees that over and over and over again he has suffered a fate worse than death
[00:55:40] which is being brought back and having his mind erased brutally killed again yeah i mean in in some
[00:55:50] of the clips we saw he just got like straight up exploded by something i mean that first one with
[00:55:57] omni man too could not have been great i mean he he like ripped out a spine almost yeah i mean
[00:56:05] when they said that he still had 30 percent human flesh left i was like are you sure he has that
[00:56:11] much left like that seems like kind of a high number so donald watches all of his deaths and
[00:56:18] he is obviously disturbed and i believe this is the the scene where we find out that's
[00:56:25] this is the scene where we find out that it was donald who requested so you see if we look at the
[00:56:31] outline that's actually not this scene uh yeah i'm with chase on this one we got one scene between
[00:56:38] however i mean they do fit well together so i i mean i would assume the first thing he does
[00:56:45] after watching all the deaths is storm over to cecil to say hey what what the hell bro
[00:56:50] it's like i feel like we could skip down there and then we'll return to the the other scene after
[00:56:57] this guy never reads the damn outline words don't have meaning bro okay i don't i don't
[00:57:05] that's crazy they they never taught me how to read they taught me how to weld the metal
[00:57:10] that's it after cecil gets to watch all of his deaths we cut to mark meeting with the dean
[00:57:16] thank you chase for when we find out that the dean is the old principal from his high school
[00:57:24] interesting interesting choice there to make the the principal the new uh dean and he tells
[00:57:31] thank you for highlighting it again he tells yeah he tells mark that he's got a he's got
[00:57:38] those grades up and all good and stuff or he's i think he gives him like a month i think yeah
[00:57:45] month or until the rest of the semester prove to me in like a month i'll let you stay
[00:57:51] yeah he was he was not very long to get your grades from an f to like a pass but okay no
[00:58:00] and he's he was also like hey i get it your dad died but also you need to choose if you want
[00:58:07] to be in school or not like it was kind of a harsh harsh way to put it being like yeah i know
[00:58:13] you're going through a rough patch but too fucking bad like get it together especially
[00:58:18] he was the principal at mark's school so he knows that mark was like a good student too like
[00:58:25] he like has to know that they're like there's actually shit going on like i don't know that
[00:58:31] that scene was just wild i figured when i like i first saw the principal in the the dean's office
[00:58:38] i assumed it was just like one of cc's people but that's what i thought too i thought he was going
[00:58:44] to be like i've been a secret agent for Cecil the whole time well yeah i mean that to me makes
[00:58:50] sense because like why would a random high school principal become a dean of a university
[00:58:56] what do i know thank are you just going to highlight everything from now on
[00:59:01] okay then we move on to a little scene of april being shown to be a very good nanny for the family
[00:59:11] you're doing it on purpose no no we went over to the reason oh wait no we didn't actually
[00:59:16] well we did because we said that Cecil or donald told Cecil to the way the wheels are falling off
[00:59:23] the wheels on the bus go side to side side to side side to side
[00:59:33] yeah okay so as chase is telling us to get to before we talk about april being a good babysitter
[00:59:40] donald finds out that Cecil and him like had talked things out you know back probably like 20 deaths
[00:59:47] ago who knows and Cecil is like well you told me to block out the memories and i'm checking through
[00:59:55] the outline chase don't kill me um i think that donald in this scene says like i want to keep
[01:00:03] remembering because that's important like in making me who i am or something along those lines
[01:00:11] no i think he asked Cecil to wipe his memory again i'm pretty sure yes he does yes oh what the
[01:00:16] fuck yes Cecil to wipe his memory we'll get we'll get to the part where he changes his mind in a few
[01:00:21] scenes oh yeah my bad then we get a little scene of april being a very good nanny taking great care
[01:00:28] of little nolyn jr a little oliver and nolyn jr there's not a whole lot else to say about
[01:00:37] this you know it was pretty straightforward then we see mark talking to his mother about his issues
[01:00:42] with amber and she can tell right away once he walks in the door that something is wrong and
[01:00:50] you know she has that mother son moment where he breaks down a little bit and decides to tell
[01:00:57] her about his problems which definitely was it was nice to see that moment of tenderness
[01:01:05] and openness between the two i feel like there's been a bit of a wall between them
[01:01:09] since the whole situation where he left for two months and they're finally starting to get back to
[01:01:17] some sort of normal mother son relationship at this point
[01:01:23] and the next scene uh has us seeing you know mark and amber they go to
[01:01:29] sorry sorry chase uh we see donald that wasn't even me that wasn't even me that
[01:01:34] okay sorry sorry sorry you're green my bad um we see we see donald and rick up on the roof uh at
[01:01:42] college and rick is about to as as chase put it skydive off the roof um gotta keep it pc fair uh so
[01:01:52] donald stops rick from skydiving because he talks to him you know kind of levels with him and says
[01:01:57] like he doesn't outright say like oh yeah i'm very similar i have a lot of severe ptsd2 and i am also
[01:02:06] a cyborg like he doesn't say any of that but he kind of describes what he and what he thinks rick is
[01:02:13] feeling and it really it it's kind of a bonding moment between them and it i mean it stops rick
[01:02:21] from skydiving so that's that's that's great yeah it's this moment of clarity for both of them that
[01:02:28] they both realize that their lives are worth living for rick it's just realizing that his life is
[01:02:36] worth living at all and for donald it's realizing that he needs to be living his actual life and
[01:02:44] not just erasing his memories like he's missing pieces of himself that he doesn't want to be
[01:02:50] missing anymore he just wants to be a whole person even if that means carrying those awful memories
[01:02:56] which is something i i can i feel like sympathetic towards you know i think that the idea of just
[01:03:03] wanting to be your whole self even though it's hurting him a little bit like it's uh it's
[01:03:11] definitely a relatable moment for anyone who's been through something rough you know of wanting
[01:03:17] to forget but at the same time not wanting to lose that memory well yeah because your mistakes and your
[01:03:24] you know choices that might have seemed good at the time that definitely turned out really harmful
[01:03:30] to you or others around you like yet you do have to learn from it obviously i mean if you if you
[01:03:36] don't i guess that's that kind of touches back on like the self-awareness thing with a mortal
[01:03:42] like if you you make a stupid mistake you're bound to not make it again unless you don't have that
[01:03:48] self-awareness absolutely and in the next scene we see mark and amber flying off to i believe paris
[01:03:58] together and having a nice little lunch at a cafe they're having a great time it seems like their
[01:04:05] relationship is starting to get the spark back a little bit there there's some chemistry there
[01:04:11] again they're not so awkward around each other um they're just having a very nice little date
[01:04:17] talking about spring break plans about how they would go to hawaii and it's uh it's very nice
[01:04:24] until a viltrumite comes down and grabs amber's neck and from there on makes some very serious
[01:04:34] threats that she will kill both amber and everyone in the cafe if mark doesn't comply and come talk to
[01:04:42] her so they end up working out a deal where if she lets go of amber's neck and leaves them alone
[01:04:52] that mark will meet her up in the sky and we find out that this woman is a viltrumite named anissa
[01:04:58] i believe in this scene or maybe it's in like the very next scene but you know they're adjacent
[01:05:03] this is also where she says like i was sent to check like you know it's like a progress report to
[01:05:08] make sure you're doing what you're supposed to do and that we're not we're not gonna have a problem
[01:05:14] like uh we did with melton we cut to the control room what did you call it richard the fluorescent
[01:05:21] light i call it the florian room because i think that's in the first season what they call what
[01:05:26] what the chemical was i don't know something the silly room yeah so we're in the control room
[01:05:32] and donald is doing some calculations he calculates that mark has less than an 18
[01:05:38] percent chance of surviving a battle with anissa which not great that's just surviving too not
[01:05:46] winning like yeah that's not getting out unscathed like that's just you're getting out lives
[01:05:53] and you're gonna live that's it so mark needless to say he can't pick a fight with her because he's
[01:06:00] not going to win now there turns out to in the next scene be a pretty big monster that is terrorizing
[01:06:08] some people and mark is like hey if you care so much about earth and making this place better
[01:06:17] like you say you do then you'll help me stop this monster and so she ends up helping him but
[01:06:23] in the end she still reinforces the fact that mark needs to subjugate humanity and join the
[01:06:30] viltur might cause he doesn't have a choice no matter what happens she won't be convinced of any
[01:06:36] other way to be um so that's very unfortunate i mean what did you guys think about this
[01:06:44] i was i was quite worried for um amber here because with amber the show has taken a lot of
[01:06:52] creative freedom compared to the comics in their story so i was i was worried they might just kill
[01:06:58] her here um with anissa um but they didn't uh we see mark get his booty cheeks absolutely
[01:07:08] clapped to dust by anissa she she puts boy in the ground um yeah i think this is where they started
[01:07:17] using impact frames just to just to show how how much crazier she is we see she basically spares mark
[01:07:25] though like she could have finished him off but she leaves him be um and we get Cecil praising
[01:07:32] mark because even though Cecil told mark he could just lie to her and say he would enslave humanity
[01:07:39] mark still said no like fuck you i'm not gonna do that shit and cecil's like that was ballsy but
[01:07:46] i respect it like i i know i can trust you now and that's good because we we get to see
[01:07:52] them developing a bit more of a professional relationship that isn't so i mean i don't
[01:07:58] know it seemed like cecil was doing was keeping mark around more out of like having the leash on him
[01:08:04] because he wanted control over him completely but now it seems he's starting to trust him a bit more
[01:08:08] on his own and then we see after the fight um mark goes to see amber and they break up uh ha
[01:08:18] amber is like i'm sorry i can't deal with this you know your superhero duties need to take
[01:08:25] precedent over me of course but at the same time like i have needs you know which is which is fair
[01:08:33] you know i think um this version of amber is much more of enjoyable character than the one in the
[01:08:39] comics in my opinion uh for some reason reddit losers don't agree with that but they're reddit
[01:08:46] losers for a reason um so yeah um and i think um amber's points were fair here i think yeah it
[01:08:56] sucks for mark and it sucks for her too but i think it's okay for them or for her to be a little
[01:09:02] selfish year you know like it's it's unfair mark has to deal with all of this and i think amber
[01:09:10] doesn't shouldn't have to either you know like even though she's not the one going out
[01:09:15] risking her life at the same time like if she gets more connected to mark every time he risks
[01:09:22] his life that's that's a burden on her too so yeah i think it's fair for her to want to end
[01:09:28] things before they get too serious i agree yeah it's just it seems like a much more mature
[01:09:36] relationship in the show than in the comics from what i've heard and yeah just it seems like
[01:09:43] a much more understanding uh understanding like dynamic between the two of them and a lot more
[01:09:54] yeah like i said just a more mature relationship yeah and then in the last scene of this episode
[01:10:01] we see alan get confronted by anissa and by the way anissa is i wouldn't say on the same level
[01:10:09] omni man but she is above the like three viltramites that confronted omni man and mark
[01:10:16] so she's like a fairly powerful viltramite and on the scale of viltramites i mean all
[01:10:22] viltramites are powerful in the invincible universe but she's no joke compared to the other
[01:10:29] viltramites she's she's a real force to be reckoned with and we see alan is verifiably
[01:10:36] stronger than her she punches him he literally takes zero damage like he's like he eats that
[01:10:42] shit to the face and he's like oh easy yeah and he kind of like he doesn't even really expect it
[01:10:49] he's kind of like bracing for it and then he's just like uh that tickled okay yeah he retaliates
[01:10:55] and he punches her back and she like she takes some damage she immediately draws blood
[01:11:01] squirt like out of her nose um and alan's like wait i have this newfound strength so we see him
[01:11:10] he purposely eats another punch uh which also does zero damage again but he pretends to get knocked
[01:11:17] out by it to get himself captured get some internal information on the viltramites
[01:11:24] very smart move by alan here yeah and i like that because like it it doesn't just show that
[01:11:30] like he's strong he's also pretty like smart he's not just an idiot yeah i mean i think alan is
[01:11:36] definitely portrayed as goofy but um he's also like the coalition's most trusted agent so i think
[01:11:46] that we definitely have to trust that alan is not the complete goofball we think he is he
[01:11:53] he has some serious shit he has to do around the universe all the time and i mean coming up with
[01:11:59] that plan too like in a five second span of time is pretty yeah i mean well if they continue with alan
[01:12:07] how he is which is fairly faithful to the comics we'll we'll see he's he's a lot smarter than you
[01:12:12] think yeah i'm excited i'm not i'm not typically a seth rogan fan but i do like the character of alan
[01:12:19] i mean i'm more enjoying alan for alan than seth rogan i don't hate seth rogan but i'm not
[01:12:25] drooling over him being involved in the project there's only one person that i'm like super happy
[01:12:30] that they're involved in and that is peter cullen he is my one of my favorite voice actors because
[01:12:35] i mean he's optimist brown what about jk simons as okay i was gonna say jk simons is doing an
[01:12:41] amazing i when i was like when i was reading the comics and because i saw season one of
[01:12:49] invincible before i read the comics i read it in like all the characters voices basically in my
[01:12:54] head and the jk simons voice was so good for omni like it's perfect like it's so imposing in terms
[01:13:04] of the character design like he really does look like the older like j jona jamison which is always
[01:13:10] jk simons jk simons is also like almost as ripped as omni man yeah i know i've i've seen that
[01:13:18] live action omni man casting let's see it he might be a little too old for a live all right he could
[01:13:24] be he could be someone else uh i don't want to say names because i was gonna say names because
[01:13:30] spoilers but yeah he could be fucking i mean i don't think a name is a spoiler but true because
[01:13:35] i guess no one knows what that means except for the readers and me i have no idea what it means
[01:13:40] good for you keep it that way buddy until the season then we're probably what like three seasons
[01:13:47] away from that um no you should be fairly soon after the invincible war i think so hyped for that
[01:13:55] though yeah um that's gonna be a great season um we're gonna talk about that a little bit in episode
[01:14:01] eight yes we are which starts off with uh no one is you know he's in like the prison and he
[01:14:10] destroys a group of these combat robots and like some of the warriors that they've got and creek
[01:14:15] stops him and i am gonna be honest chase i do not remember why he stops him if you could
[01:14:21] check out my slack i mean they're just like i think they're just trying to like tire no one out
[01:14:27] before his execution because they're just gonna have him like trial by combat someone
[01:14:32] but they don't want him to win i think so they're like weakening him just in case
[01:14:38] um but yeah and then krig krig is like he's general krig so obviously he he must be a
[01:14:46] powerful filch right we see um he's like he kind of like sons um omni man he's like he's like chill
[01:14:55] out low bro like um yeah uh he's like you've disgraced us basically and yeah uh just kind of like
[01:15:08] be he's general krig you know like he's he's just like he's he's obsessed with um
[01:15:16] he's obsessed with serving the viltramite empire yeah i do like him so far i'm sure he not not
[01:15:23] like like him like he's a good guy but you know i like the he's a good well written character
[01:15:29] so far and i've i know other stuff as i'm sure you do too but like i've i've seen stuff i'm excited
[01:15:35] for later on what he what happens with him but for now we got uh after this scene angstrom levy who
[01:15:43] hasn't been seen since the well no i guess he was in like a few snippets of later episodes i think
[01:15:49] no we haven't seen him since like the mawlers episode i think oh okay i i could have sworn
[01:15:55] there was like one scene but i might be i think it was like the end card was him getting that
[01:16:00] suit of that same episode okay yeah and then we haven't seen him since yeah so he breaks into
[01:16:08] mark and debbie's house and he takes debbie and oliver hostage and he is interesting in this episode
[01:16:15] he really you know he's really tweaking out i know he he forces um debbie to like
[01:16:24] you know bring oliver into the house and she calls him and he's like he said he would hurt
[01:16:28] us if you didn't come and then he's mark shows up and this is when the tweaking really really starts
[01:16:36] he just kind of like starts screaming about like yeah he starts hurting them and he's screaming about
[01:16:41] like that you did this to me blah blah blah and mark is just like huh and he's like oh you're
[01:16:47] that guy and angstrom levy at the that guy thing like loses it because he's just like how could
[01:16:56] you how could you ruin my life and you don't even you don't even know who i am you don't know my name
[01:17:01] like and of course he also is beefing with mark because of he's essentially fused with all of the
[01:17:07] other angstroms that were hooked up to the machine so like he sees mark do a lot of bad things
[01:17:14] to a lot of yeah and what we learn about um angstrom and invincible or mark is that in
[01:17:22] basically every other timeline mark joins his father or it just becomes like a bad guy um so we
[01:17:33] kind of see that like debbie is the reason that mark is good here you know i think we get we get
[01:17:40] another like reassurance there that debbie is that she's her like she you know like she really is
[01:17:48] she's like the goat mother like yeah no debbie is definitely one of my favorite characters in the
[01:17:54] invincible universe because like she's just she doesn't it's like art set in the one episode
[01:18:00] like she doesn't have any powers but she is the stronger one like in her family like she really
[01:18:06] does put up with so much and i mean especially in this scene or these scenes we get to see her
[01:18:12] like she kind of stands up to angstrom is like you make it seem like mark is so much more evil and like
[01:18:20] you're you're attacking the wrong one in general like my son hasn't done anything except for cause
[01:18:29] the accident even though it was angstrom's fault well lmao i i don't know uh but then
[01:18:36] they kind of start fighting across them i for lack of a better word multi-verse
[01:18:41] angstrom starts throwing mark into different universes and we're we get a kind of a goofy scene
[01:18:49] yeah he uh is thrown into an alleyway where two guys two guys in masks and costumes and
[01:18:55] shit are fighting when one of them is a copyright safe doc ock from spider man and the other one
[01:19:01] is of course copyright safe spider man uh from what i understand in the comics they did you know it
[01:19:06] wasn't uh spider agent or whatever they called no in the comics there was a proper no it was a proper
[01:19:14] crossover with actual spider man and actual dr octopus yeah but so they fight for like you know
[01:19:21] 10 seconds it's really just like a cool little well crossover ish scene before mark gets thrust
[01:19:30] through another portal and he i don't know there were a bunch of different universes there were
[01:19:36] talking dinosaurs and then he gets sent away there was we got to see batman and mark's like
[01:19:43] so you're telling me that you look like a bat and that's it that's the gimmick or whatever like
[01:19:49] that was we also he also gets put into the mad max universe maybe that's why they keep putting the
[01:19:54] damn furios oh my god on the show bro no they have that and then they also have um
[01:20:02] because it is the same creator as the walking dead uh so i believe it's implied that the
[01:20:07] one universe with all the zombies is the walking dead that is the walk yeah it's this it's the
[01:20:13] same universe they have uh invincible comics in the walking dead oh yeah i saw that on uh tiktok
[01:20:21] the other day uh amidst all the brain rot um wow yeah yeah and so they you know they keep going
[01:20:31] through the multiverse and that's i mean that's they come back mark wallops and angstrom with
[01:20:41] the a gun from fornite i will never get over that um and then they go to like this you know
[01:20:48] like the sand universe that angstrom went into in the first episode and this is where their their final
[01:20:55] battle uh unfolds and yeah mark mark kind of beats the living shit out of angstrom i mean it's
[01:21:07] it angstrom's not defenseless like he's a bit stronger but he's not he's not strong enough i mean
[01:21:16] yeah well angstrom is like wailing on mark and he's like i've i've gotten implants so that i'm strong
[01:21:24] enough to kill you and then mark retaliates and he basically accidentally kills angstrom and he
[01:21:32] he keeps repeating the line like i thought you were stronger like i didn't mean to
[01:21:37] we see mark he is like having a mental breakdown over this because i mean rightfully so he's
[01:21:44] he's never killed someone before like um he's always tried to keep that code and now and we do get
[01:21:52] like some parallels between him and um the the omni man fight at the end of season one like when
[01:21:58] he's wailing on angstrom on the ground it's very similar to that scene where omni man is you
[01:22:04] know making the speech like well oh no it's going to be 17 more years i don't remember the whole
[01:22:09] speech because it's been a hot minute but you know like it's it's the same kind of thing and i like
[01:22:15] how they did it because a lot of the frames of that fight look like pretty much the same exact thing
[01:22:21] just with mark and angstrom or what's left of angstrom um it was a very just gruesome show
[01:22:29] of power though and then mark is left alone in this this desert wasteland covered in angstrom's
[01:22:37] blood yeah and it's it's really brutal and he's only there for i don't know we don't really get a
[01:22:45] sense of time but it can't be more than an hour before all older versions of the guardians like
[01:22:53] eve and even robot monster girl uh bulletproof they all show up shit sorry sorry chase never
[01:23:01] mind that's not the next scene the next scene is actually the viltrumites beating the shit out of
[01:23:07] nolyn and creig tells him from what i remember like um a viltrumite needs to be whole in body
[01:23:16] and mind to to be executed but then he takes them he takes no one back to his cell and on the way
[01:23:25] back to his cell um no one gets to walk by uh allen allen the alien yippee and allen uses his
[01:23:34] telepathy implant to just sort of say like hey do you remember me and they kind of converse
[01:23:42] through that telepathic link um for a few minutes before going back to their cells fully and
[01:23:50] allen says that he's there to bust omni man out yeah then we get to that scene where
[01:23:56] uh a portal opens up to mark and the guardians from the future save him and just before mark
[01:24:05] walks through the portal to get back to his universe at the time he left it um we learn about
[01:24:13] eves feelings for him uh the older eve tells mark that she needs to tell him about it so he can either
[01:24:22] accept them or deny them so eve can move on um so yeah um mark gets back to his his mom sees
[01:24:34] she's alive sees oliver's unharmed uh he's happy to see that they're i mean i wouldn't say okay but
[01:24:43] they're they're whole debbie in that scene i think i forgot to mention it earlier but like
[01:24:47] angstrom breaks her arm and not just like the bone like the bone is out of the skin it is horrific
[01:24:53] and like she kind of just tanks that she she's she's fine i mean yeah she's i wouldn't say that
[01:25:01] as fine as you can be okay it's fine as you can be uh sorry my mistake no yeah she she's definitely
[01:25:06] holding up a lot better than anyone else would having their arm snapped like that for sure but yeah
[01:25:15] fine would fine wouldn't be the word i would use i was it's relative okay she's relatively fine
[01:25:22] sorry yeah maybe relative to you buddy um we see we see in the next scene mark is on the roof of
[01:25:30] the building which uh debbie's inside of it's like a government building um and seesol goes up to him
[01:25:39] he's like you know this is not the greatest place to escape surveillance and like i think he's just
[01:25:45] trying to make some small talk because he knows mark is kind of going through it and seesol
[01:25:49] reminds mark that even though he killed um he killed he's not like his father and that
[01:25:58] this doesn't make him the bad guy and it was all out of necessity um if he hadn't killed angstrom he
[01:26:04] would have kept basically torturing him and his family until it went too far i mean it already
[01:26:11] did go too far obviously yeah until someone lost their life and then it would have been
[01:26:18] angstrom's life over one of mark's loved ones and i think seesol says something and he's like
[01:26:25] at the end of the day if the good guys have won and the bad guys are dead
[01:26:30] then everything's okay or something like that i was like that's a little crazy but i mean he's
[01:26:37] in this instance it's it's probably for the better and then we move on to a scene of rudy
[01:26:44] and amanda making up a little bit you know monster girl really opens up to rudy and tells him
[01:26:52] that even though it would be great if there was some sort of fix to her situation and how much
[01:27:00] she would love if he were able to figure something out at the same time most days she does not really
[01:27:07] want to talk about that she doesn't want to talk about the fact that there's a problem
[01:27:11] and rudy is really making their whole relationship kind of the fact that this is an issue that
[01:27:18] he feels he needs to solve and as much as she does actually appreciate that it's still just a
[01:27:24] distraction from what they could actually like the relationship that they could actually have
[01:27:30] and she knows it's coming from a place of worry but it doesn't make it any better that that's all
[01:27:36] he makes their relationship about yeah and we find out in the scene after this that duplicate
[01:27:47] in fact is alive and that she had made a copy of herself and always keeps an extra copy of herself
[01:27:54] around just in case a little break glass in case of emergency situation and she had really wanted
[01:28:01] to disappear off the map never be seen again she just felt tired of dying over and over and over
[01:28:07] again which is completely understandable and she decided to come back and see the immortal
[01:28:15] because she really loves the immortal and obviously he's just over the moon that duplicate is still alive
[01:28:24] or at least a copy of her is still alive so that's um it was a very touching scene to see
[01:28:30] them reunited again yeah for sure and and then next we get this is seen that I'm sure is important
[01:28:39] for later but it was really just kind of there um it's some researcher and a woman with that has
[01:28:47] some form of powers it just looks like you know basically super strength they're going into a
[01:28:52] mummy's tomb and it's implied or not even implied I think she the the archaeologist just
[01:28:59] outright says like that her father died in that tomb so they go in they open the sarcophagus
[01:29:04] which is totally not a no-no from like any treasure movie ever but hey what do I know um
[01:29:10] and so they open it and this like mummy ghost pops out and starts bitching that there isn't a
[01:29:17] male host because I guess he says like the curse requires him to inhabit a male host
[01:29:24] but then it I mean I'm pretty sure he inhabits one of them anyways and flies off
[01:29:31] yeah we does he inhabit one of them I don't I don't remember I don't remember the significance
[01:29:38] of this shit in the comics or in the show I just remember it being like some weird ass scene that
[01:29:44] was there and I was like what is that thing no I genuinely forgot about it and then I'm looking
[01:29:50] through the outline and I see mummy BS and I'm like oh yeah that when I was watching it earlier
[01:29:58] today I was like oh did I accidentally autoplay a different show like what's happening right now
[01:30:06] but yeah and then it does a little transition into mark flying overhead and he's pretty pissed off
[01:30:13] he's taking out his emotions on the sky flying around and mark is really worried that there's
[01:30:21] a possibility he's going to become his dad we see him sitting out on the rooftop at night
[01:30:27] and he is trying to gather his thoughts and his mom comes out to sit with him and is like
[01:30:33] you're not going to go to sleep anytime soon are you and they have a little heart to heart where mark
[01:30:39] says that he just he needs to drop out of college he needs to really hone his skills and that's
[01:30:47] the most important thing he can do which at first debbie tries to push back a little bit
[01:30:52] tries to make it seem like you know college is still really important but in the end she
[01:30:59] understands where he's coming from and accepts the fact that he really just needs to focus on
[01:31:04] being a superhero because it's not sustainable for him to be a college student as well it's not
[01:31:10] fair to him and it's not fair to other people who need him yeah and after this he's still you
[01:31:17] know he's still not necessarily down like he's definitely feeling better but
[01:31:22] I feel like he just really needs he really needs to talk to someone else who's got more
[01:31:27] similar problems in terms of like superheroing and so he talks to eve and of course she
[01:31:35] as we just found out has feelings for him so of course she is more than happy to help him out
[01:31:41] and they just kind of sit on the rooftop together they have a good heart to heart and
[01:31:48] he almost tells her you know like mentions what future eve told him and then he he decides like
[01:31:57] no I'm not going to do that at least not now I'm hoping that he does something about it though
[01:32:02] soon I mean that's gonna be messy with eve and amber being friends if if those two actually get
[01:32:11] together that's that's gonna be pretty pretty messy for sure but yeah I'm here for it I'm
[01:32:19] I'm here for you have a drama you know yeah exactly yeah and I think in the comics um
[01:32:28] um around this time before this time eve uh was actually uh Williams beard at one point
[01:32:38] oh my god yeah that's kind of funny yeah um okay sorry that's just okay I get cool
[01:32:52] that's pretty funny actually um
[01:32:58] the last scene of this season is allen telep holy crap allen telepathically
[01:33:09] contacting Nolan um to seek help from him to join the coalition and mark against the viltrumites
[01:33:19] but Nolan he seems set in his fate of death and we kind of learn more about how he's become
[01:33:26] more human than the humanity he's gained through his companionship with debbie having mark as a kid
[01:33:36] and thraxans um he talks about his regrets his remorse all these new feelings he's having how how
[01:33:46] he feels so horrible for all that he's done to the humans especially in Chicago
[01:33:54] but yeah I think we really see him turning a new leaf here yeah and he I think his last
[01:34:00] I think the last words in general of this episode are just yeah and I don't know I thought that was
[01:34:06] a really like well delivered line because like you know he's like stuttering through it as like
[01:34:11] he's beginning to realize that that's like that's what's going on because I mean for as old as
[01:34:18] he is I mean we don't really know how old I don't think at least but like we know he's not
[01:34:25] you know in his 40s maybe 50s like he appears to be and like having a profound realization like that
[01:34:33] as late into his life as he is I mean I think he's definitely stunned by it and I just love to
[01:34:41] take case Simmons as a voice actor so of course I'm I'm glazing a little bit and now he's a
[01:34:46] great voice actor definitely deserving of the praise we are running a little bit long so
[01:34:54] before we start to wrap things up I have just a couple I think actually just one question for
[01:35:01] for you Chase about how things compared to the comics one of the things that I was curious about
[01:35:09] when I was watching this is does Debbie accept Oliver as her son as quickly in the comics as
[01:35:18] she does in the show like is it a pretty immediate thing that happens in the comics too?
[01:35:24] I don't remember exactly I know she does raise him though in the comics as her own basically so
[01:35:31] it's like Debbie is similar in the comics very similar I would say like at the core they're
[01:35:38] the same character still but I mean in the in the show obviously she gets a lot more spotlight
[01:35:44] which is I mean I'm happy about that she's a great character very enjoyable to watch um
[01:35:51] but yeah I mean uh I think one of the scenes they changed from these set of episodes was
[01:36:00] at one when Mark and Amber at the cafe in the comics it's Debbie and Amber sorry Debbie and Mark
[01:36:06] at the cafe and Anissa threatens Debbie but yeah yeah um yeah because Mark and Amber break up earlier
[01:36:18] in the comics yeah I think it's good though because it gives a more like realistic I guess feel to
[01:36:25] the the breakup because like you can kind of sympathize with Amber instead of not sympathizing
[01:36:31] with Amber I guess yeah I mean I think Amber's points still stand if she's not at the cafe
[01:36:35] but I think they definitely hit a little harder I think I think Amber's character is much better
[01:36:42] done in the show I mean it's easy to say that though because it's been like almost I think
[01:36:52] almost a decade since the comics finished so they've had time to work on the story and the characters
[01:37:01] um also I think that if they had had Debbie at the cafe and had her in that danger and then
[01:37:08] the very next episode they have her being like threatened by angstrom it would have been a lot
[01:37:14] lot of like Debbie in danger in what light she literally was clutch goding versus angstrom
[01:37:23] are you kidding she she stopped Oliver from getting fucking destroyed um she used the the wooden dove
[01:37:33] to fend off angstrom you know she she's the goat um no I I know I'm messing with you yeah no of
[01:37:44] course yeah um but yeah I think I mean I think they've done such a good job even though it's not the
[01:37:54] same as the comics I feel that everything is landing in a way that makes sense and connects
[01:38:03] back to the comics in a good way too um I think the main story points are just they've remained
[01:38:10] the same and I think that's a good thing I like the I like the invincible comics but I mean all the
[01:38:16] characters that they've changed so far it's been for the better so I'm happy with how they're
[01:38:22] handling it yeah hopefully they keep going with that I mean I I've been really impressed with
[01:38:29] all of the amazon shows like the major ones at least um fallout was fantastic the boys gen v
[01:38:36] and invincible have all been great and I'm sure there's other shows that are great but like
[01:38:41] those are the ones that I've at least seen and I think that it's just great to get these shows
[01:38:48] that where they really do seem to put a lot of effort into and also I love the practical effects
[01:38:52] in a lot of the a lot of the live action that they do because they just kind of I don't know
[01:38:59] they do a good job with it I don't know what I'm trying to say I'm just yapping yeah no the
[01:39:04] the practical effects always look good in the live action shows it wasn't there talk of a live
[01:39:10] action invincible at some point I don't know if I want to see that and hold honesty I want them
[01:39:16] to focus on this show they already struggle to get eight episodes out a year uh every two years
[01:39:23] but oh yeah actually you forgot about the the year in the whole other year yep yeah but I think
[01:39:33] that about covers the episodes I guess we're just down to our closing bit now right for invincible
[01:39:41] this is going to be our last episode until a new season comes out for invincible or if we get
[01:39:48] another standalone episode like we got with the Adam Eve episode in between maybe we'll come back
[01:39:54] to cover that but that'll all be dependent um so if you want to send us feedback uh we would
