00:19 --> 00:26 [SPEAKER_02]: Hey folks, properly Howard movie review, usually reviews movies, but today and for the next seven weeks.
00:26 --> 00:34 [SPEAKER_02]: We'll be using the speed to do coverage for neither the seven kingdoms, David from the Lorehouse joins me to give his instant take.
00:34 --> 00:40 [SPEAKER_02]: He did not read the novella, so we will avoid spoilers beyond episode one of neither the seven kingdoms.
00:41 --> 00:49 [SPEAKER_02]: Then after we talk about that, Steve joins me and we play a movie trivia game with real world consequences.
00:49 --> 00:52 [SPEAKER_02]: be sure to check out everything that's happening at the Lorehounds.
00:52 --> 01:02 [SPEAKER_02]: In fact, we'll be doing a deep dive midweek of this episode over on the Lorehounds feed to a search for nine of the seven kingdoms, Lorehounds.
01:03 --> 01:06 [SPEAKER_02]: All right, without further ado, here is David from the Lorehounds.
01:07 --> 01:17 [SPEAKER_02]: So David, you are a, you were a virgin.
01:18 --> 01:23 [SPEAKER_02]: Uh, so this was your first encounter with, uh, with, uh, with the famous short story.
01:24 --> 01:24 [SPEAKER_02]: What do you think?
01:26 --> 01:38 [SPEAKER_10]: The moment that I fell in love with this series was during the feasting and the dance and meeting, I believe it's Lionel, Baratheon.
01:39 --> 01:40 [SPEAKER_10]: The laughing storm, yes.
01:41 --> 01:47 [SPEAKER_10]: At, I was like, oh, you know that, that magical moment.
01:48 --> 02:01 [SPEAKER_10]: when a movie or a book or a show will transport you out of yourself and you sort of forget what that you're watching something or that you're, you know, just forget yourself and your lost in the moment and I was just
02:02 --> 02:12 [SPEAKER_02]: Lost in the moment watching the dancers watching the Well, that's really interesting because, you know, as you know, storytelling on screen is a little different than on the page.
02:13 --> 02:19 [SPEAKER_02]: And so a lot of that, a lot of the music and dancing was not really communicated in the book.
02:20 --> 02:28 [SPEAKER_02]: So that was that scene that drew you in was absolutely an artistic flourish.
02:28 --> 02:29 [SPEAKER_02]: by the showrunners.
02:30 --> 02:35 [SPEAKER_02]: OK. And I was a little bit, I was like, is this working?
02:36 --> 02:42 [SPEAKER_02]: Like, for me, it was sort of like, OK, you're departing a little bit from the book content.
02:42 --> 02:43 [SPEAKER_02]: I like that.
02:44 --> 02:51 [SPEAKER_02]: I'm not sure if this is working, but to hear it worked for you is just an interesting place to start.
02:52 --> 02:53 [SPEAKER_10]: And it's where it
02:54 --> 02:55 [SPEAKER_10]: all came together.
02:55 --> 03:01 [SPEAKER_10]: There's a lot that I was noticing in terms of the style and the construction of the show.
03:01 --> 03:12 [SPEAKER_10]: The music, the theme, certain sort of theme, the flashbacks, the little cutaway humor elements.
03:13 --> 03:17 [SPEAKER_10]: And then it just sort of culminates
03:18 --> 03:23 [SPEAKER_10]: in this wild back in Alien, you know, feasting moment.
03:23 --> 03:28 [SPEAKER_10]: And I was like, huh, I was like, this is gonna be fun.
03:29 --> 03:30 [SPEAKER_10]: It's gonna be fun.
03:30 --> 03:30 [SPEAKER_02]: It's gonna be fun.
03:31 --> 03:33 [SPEAKER_02]: And I just wanna talk about a couple things.
03:33 --> 03:38 [SPEAKER_02]: The music was, the use of the music throughout was pretty great.
03:39 --> 03:46 [SPEAKER_02]: And I left pretty hard when they started the Game of Thrones music and then it was just a,
03:46 --> 03:50 [SPEAKER_02]: a jump cut running to him.
03:50 --> 04:20 [SPEAKER_02]: uh... take a shit right behind the old tree there this is the first the game of it's property that says watched and so you know she didn't quite get that particular joke but that was a for me and he actually connect that but that's why we listen to podcasts okay sure like you you heard maybe maybe four seconds of that traditional jawati theme right and uh... and then of course
04:20 --> 04:21 [SPEAKER_02]: popping out turns.
04:21 --> 04:37 [SPEAKER_10]: So, well, this week, HBO has really reminded me of who HBO is because on the pit, I saw a full-on boner and on 97 kings and two of their flagship shows right now, right?
04:37 --> 04:41 [SPEAKER_10]: I saw a grown knight having explosive diarrhea.
04:42 --> 05:00 [SPEAKER_02]: The other thing about the music that I liked is now I am, I'm of an age that I have a fond affection for Monty Python, indeed, and some of the whistling.
05:00 --> 05:12 [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, it was sort of like, okay, so this is game of thrones, but just a tiny little season in here of life a Brian, it feels like.
05:12 --> 05:13 [SPEAKER_02]: Interesting, okay.
05:13 --> 05:23 [SPEAKER_02]: So I liked the whistle, you know, it was the lighting was fundamentally different than most of what we saw with game of thrones.
05:24 --> 05:25 [SPEAKER_02]: And how's the dragon?
05:26 --> 05:28 [SPEAKER_02]: Just the use of natural light,
05:29 --> 05:31 [SPEAKER_02]: in this show was kind of breathtaking.
05:32 --> 05:36 [SPEAKER_02]: I thought the film work was pretty impressive with this first episode.
05:37 --> 05:46 [SPEAKER_10]: So the music actually made me think a little bit of rain drops keep falling on my head, the principal song from Butch Cassidy on the Sundance Kid.
05:47 --> 05:47 [SPEAKER_10]: Yeah.
05:47 --> 05:51 [SPEAKER_10]: And I don't know why because it's not
05:51 --> 06:00 [SPEAKER_10]: That is a very particular song, by a very particular artist, which didn't have anything to do with the Irish fluency thing.
06:00 --> 06:05 [SPEAKER_10]: But for some reason, that maybe it was the lighting and the open air spaces, like I would say.
06:05 --> 06:10 [SPEAKER_02]: Glad that you mentioned that, that it is this one felt a little bit like springtime, you know?
06:11 --> 06:16 [SPEAKER_02]: You know, famously began with Winterfell and the snow and winter is coming.
06:16 --> 06:24 [SPEAKER_02]: This feels like it's, you know, it's springtime in Westeros to borrow a producers line.
06:26 --> 06:28 [SPEAKER_02]: I quite enjoyed myself with this.
06:28 --> 06:33 [SPEAKER_02]: I think it gave me every indication to communicate this, the idea of it.
06:34 --> 06:36 [SPEAKER_02]: This is just going to be kind of a fun romp.
06:36 --> 06:39 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, if you're waiting for zombies, you're going to wait a long time.
06:39 --> 06:43 [SPEAKER_10]: And it's potentially a show.
06:44 --> 06:46 [SPEAKER_10]: That they could turn around a little bit faster.
06:46 --> 06:52 [SPEAKER_10]: I don't know the depth of the stories and how many how much source material there is for them to turn over.
06:52 --> 07:04 [SPEAKER_10]: Yeah, but at least three seasons worth going, you know, so it could be something that they turn over rather quickly assume because we don't have a lot of dragons to deal with and.
07:04 --> 07:06 [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, that was one thing I was going to ask you.
07:06 --> 07:10 [SPEAKER_02]: So when you said on the preview, you had seen dragons.
07:11 --> 07:13 [SPEAKER_02]: Because I tried to avoid the previews.
07:13 --> 07:14 [SPEAKER_10]: It was the play.
07:14 --> 07:15 [SPEAKER_02]: It was the puppets.
07:16 --> 07:16 [SPEAKER_10]: Yeah.
07:16 --> 07:16 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
07:17 --> 07:18 [SPEAKER_10]: It looked great.
07:18 --> 07:20 [SPEAKER_10]: And it actually gave me dragonslayer vibes.
07:20 --> 07:20 [SPEAKER_10]: The, yeah.
07:20 --> 07:22 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, don't have strong memories.
07:22 --> 07:24 [SPEAKER_02]: Maybe I had a revisit that.
07:24 --> 07:25 [SPEAKER_02]: No strong memories of that movie.
07:25 --> 07:26 [SPEAKER_02]: So interesting.
07:26 --> 07:33 [SPEAKER_10]: Okay, anyway, it gave me vibes of that particular drive that that dragon scales and the way it moved and everything like that.
07:33 --> 07:34 [SPEAKER_02]: Sure thing.
07:34 --> 07:34 [SPEAKER_02]: Sure thing.
07:34 --> 07:35 [SPEAKER_10]: Great.
07:36 --> 07:37 [SPEAKER_10]: Oh, great job.
07:38 --> 07:40 [SPEAKER_02]: I thought the flashbacks were really interesting.
07:40 --> 07:41 [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, so funny.
07:42 --> 07:48 [SPEAKER_02]: Just kind of really gives you a sense of like, this is children are treated a little bit differently.
07:48 --> 07:49 [SPEAKER_08]: I missed a little.
07:50 --> 07:52 [SPEAKER_02]: You know, there were a few indications of that.
07:53 --> 08:19 [SPEAKER_02]: uh... but i do think it sets up this idea that dunk really has no reason to be kind to egg um... you know he keeps on threatening to give him a clout in the air but he never does right and you almost think like oh he's he's actually a pretty good guy yes it sets up that character development there uh... i do have a question for you because it's your first time
08:20 --> 08:27 [SPEAKER_02]: And that is, Dunk claims to have been dubbed by Arlin of Penitri.
08:27 --> 08:35 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I always, he always meant for me to be a knight and before he, before he died, he knighted me and any knight can make a knight.
08:35 --> 08:36 [SPEAKER_02]: So I stand before you a knight.
08:39 --> 08:40 [SPEAKER_02]: Do you think he is lying?
08:41 --> 08:47 [SPEAKER_10]: I am not going to answer the question because I think this central tension,
08:47 --> 08:54 [SPEAKER_10]: is super interesting and I'm really okay with ambiguity in these kinds of situations.
08:55 --> 09:15 [SPEAKER_10]: I like writing in the tension and I love hearing the arguments and picking apart the reasons and an examining it, but I think this is an excellent storytelling device for this character because if he is lying, this will be the biggest lie that he will have ever told
09:15 --> 09:30 [SPEAKER_10]: in his life and it's his honesty and in sort of whole hardedness that basically keeps him alive in this world that would otherwise people see a big tall guy like this.
09:30 --> 09:31 [SPEAKER_10]: Yeah.
09:31 --> 09:37 [SPEAKER_10]: They're like, we'll just like Bratheon said, have you come for, you know, you're a big tall guy, you're coming for me, right?
09:38 --> 09:41 [SPEAKER_10]: And then they they realize that like no, he's just kind of a,
09:41 --> 10:09 [SPEAKER_10]: Kind of a sweet genuine kid when the when the sex workers prostitutes, whatever we call them in this world are a razz and him and he's like, why are you I just needed a little help what they were like, oh, you're right, we're really sorry, so it's leading it's the one he's the one, he's the one Ernest man who always throws and people are kind of shocked, you know, in the same way that, you know, John was kind of shocked.
10:09 --> 10:13 [SPEAKER_02]: when Sam Well, Tarlie said, I'm a coward.
10:13 --> 10:15 [SPEAKER_02]: I know that about myself.
10:15 --> 10:17 [SPEAKER_02]: It was kind of shocking.
10:17 --> 10:21 [SPEAKER_02]: I think I might have found the only honest man of the entire kingdom.
10:22 --> 10:25 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, dunk, dunk, it's almost a superpower.
10:25 --> 10:31 [SPEAKER_02]: Like he has that aweshocks sort of earnest, it's genuine.
10:31 --> 10:33 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, genuine, you know,
10:33 --> 10:42 [SPEAKER_02]: And that resonates with people, you know, in many ways, maybe his earnestness is a weakness, but it could also be a strength.
10:43 --> 10:47 [SPEAKER_10]: Love the conversation with the horse at all, just plays into his, you know, folksiness.
10:48 --> 10:48 [SPEAKER_10]: Yeah.
10:48 --> 10:53 [SPEAKER_10]: Like you said, the production was almost too clean, almost too slick in a way.
10:53 --> 10:54 [SPEAKER_10]: It was so brightly lit.
10:55 --> 11:00 [SPEAKER_10]: And you could hear everything and you could see everything I was like, well, this is a weird to be in this world where it's not like,
11:00 --> 11:11 [SPEAKER_10]: dark or that we're following people of noble lineage as a, you know, highboard and that we're really all we really are down at the at this hedge level.
11:11 --> 11:13 [SPEAKER_10]: So I thought all of that was great.
11:15 --> 11:23 [SPEAKER_10]: Just really quick at it and I don't want you to spoil me on anything because I do want to be just fresh on this, but the opening scene when he walks into that little in.
11:23 --> 11:43 [SPEAKER_10]: We see a dragon coin that has thrown down he's got this coin that looks like a star of the seven, but that dude I'm guessing is somebody and that dagger that that guy had that the don't guy said, oh, I dreamed of you and then he's dagger upstairs that dagger looked really super familiar.
11:43 --> 11:49 [SPEAKER_10]: I think it was that was that what's his name's dagger from house of the dragon.
11:49 --> 11:51 [SPEAKER_02]: I think it might be Viserys's deck.
11:51 --> 11:51 [SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
11:52 --> 11:57 [SPEAKER_02]: I think I have the same question and it looked a little bit different to me, but I've only seen it once.
11:57 --> 12:01 [SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to have to like pause and really carefully examine it.
12:02 --> 12:04 [SPEAKER_02]: I wouldn't be surprised if it is.
12:05 --> 12:11 [SPEAKER_02]: Um, that character as, as you might guess is going to come back into the story at some point.
12:12 --> 12:12 [SPEAKER_10]: Indeed.
12:12 --> 12:12 [SPEAKER_10]: Right.
12:12 --> 12:14 [SPEAKER_10]: It's a pretty, it's a perfect story mechanic.
12:14 --> 12:14 [SPEAKER_02]: Right.
12:14 --> 12:19 [SPEAKER_10]: Introduce the bad guy or introduce the, the, the antagonist early on so that we know.
12:19 --> 12:24 [SPEAKER_02]: And the other connection to Viserys is that he had a dream.
12:24 --> 12:24 [SPEAKER_02]: Right.
12:24 --> 12:26 [SPEAKER_02]: He said I dreamt about you.
12:26 --> 12:27 [SPEAKER_10]: Yeah.
12:27 --> 12:33 [SPEAKER_02]: and we know that the Sarah's sort of always fancy themselves a Targaryen dreamer.
12:33 --> 12:37 [SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, little little things to look out for, for sure.
12:37 --> 12:40 [SPEAKER_10]: And egg, egg on.
12:40 --> 12:43 [SPEAKER_10]: you know, uh, King's Landing, right, like there.
12:43 --> 12:48 [SPEAKER_10]: I don't know much about the books, but I'm like, wait, oh, this, who is, well, that was, I wasn't going to bring it up.
12:48 --> 12:48 [SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
12:48 --> 12:51 [SPEAKER_02]: I, I didn't want, you know, I was, this is me speculating.
12:51 --> 12:52 [SPEAKER_10]: I do not know.
12:52 --> 12:53 [SPEAKER_10]: I don't know anything about the books.
12:53 --> 12:55 [SPEAKER_10]: This is just me putting, you know, Lego pieces together.
12:55 --> 12:55 [SPEAKER_10]: Right.
12:55 --> 12:55 [SPEAKER_10]: Right.
12:55 --> 12:55 [SPEAKER_10]: Right.
12:55 --> 12:56 [SPEAKER_10]: Right.
12:56 --> 12:56 [SPEAKER_10]: Right.
12:56 --> 12:56 [SPEAKER_02]: Right.
12:56 --> 12:56 [SPEAKER_10]: Right.
12:56 --> 12:56 [SPEAKER_10]: Right.
12:56 --> 12:56 [SPEAKER_10]: Right.
12:56 --> 12:57 [SPEAKER_10]: Right.
12:57 --> 12:57 [SPEAKER_10]: Right.
12:57 --> 12:57 [SPEAKER_10]: Right.
12:57 --> 12:57 [SPEAKER_10]: Right.
12:57 --> 12:57 [SPEAKER_10]: Right.
12:57 --> 12:57 [SPEAKER_10]: Right.
12:57 --> 12:58 [SPEAKER_10]: Right.
12:58 --> 12:58 [SPEAKER_10]: Right.
12:58 --> 12:59 [SPEAKER_10]: It's just, it's just right there.
12:59 --> 12:59 [SPEAKER_10]: Egg on, like, come on.
13:00 --> 13:08 [SPEAKER_02]: So a very promising beginning, um, looking forward to see how they develop this.
13:09 --> 13:16 [SPEAKER_02]: Maybe there will be a little bit of some surprising departures from the narrative, just based on this first episode.
13:17 --> 13:21 [SPEAKER_02]: I never felt like the dialogue was clunky.
13:21 --> 13:24 [SPEAKER_02]: It just seemed to draw me in.
13:24 --> 13:28 [SPEAKER_10]: For a 45 minute episode, it flew by.
13:28 --> 13:30 [SPEAKER_10]: Yeah, absolutely.
13:30 --> 13:32 [SPEAKER_10]: I was really, it was just lovely.
13:32 --> 13:34 [SPEAKER_10]: I just really had a really good time.
13:34 --> 13:37 [SPEAKER_10]: All right, when can people expect
13:37 --> 13:40 [SPEAKER_02]: us to do a deep dive into this episode.
13:40 --> 13:44 [SPEAKER_10]: I believe this Tuesday is going to be the recording.
13:45 --> 13:51 [SPEAKER_02]: So people may be can expect to listen to our deep dive into this episode Tuesday evening.
13:51 --> 13:51 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
13:53 --> 13:53 [SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
13:54 --> 13:56 [SPEAKER_02]: So people can look forward to that.
13:56 --> 14:13 [SPEAKER_02]: And then, if you have feedback, you can send that to one of two places, you can send the two coupons of horror at gmail.com, or what is the preferred feedback address for the
14:14 --> 14:15 [SPEAKER_02]: the lorehounds.com.
14:15 --> 14:24 [SPEAKER_02]: Okay, so people can send feedback there, and then Steve and I will be interacting with feedback on Friday.
14:24 --> 14:33 [SPEAKER_10]: I will mention that Nancy will at least she's catching the emails on the lorehounds side, so she'll be assisting you guys a little bit there, Anthony.
14:34 --> 14:37 [SPEAKER_10]: That's fantastic, and we should also mention the discord, right?
14:37 --> 14:37 [SPEAKER_10]: Yep.
14:38 --> 14:39 [SPEAKER_10]: And we have a threat.
14:39 --> 14:45 [SPEAKER_10]: We'll have a game of thrones umbrella channel and we'll have episode threat episode to episode 3.
14:45 --> 14:48 [SPEAKER_10]: So folks can talk spoiler free in those.
14:49 --> 14:55 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, if people have never jumped on to the Laura Hound's discord how would they go about that?
14:56 --> 15:01 [SPEAKER_10]: In the show notes for this episode there will be a link tree link.
15:01 --> 15:12 [SPEAKER_10]: that has a little webpage of all the lorhound resources, including the discord, as well as the properly Howard feed, as well as all of our other affiliates.
15:13 --> 15:13 [SPEAKER_10]: Wonderful.
15:14 --> 15:14 [SPEAKER_02]: All right, we'll see you soon.
15:17 --> 15:23 [SPEAKER_02]: Steve rolled toilet paper first invented in the 1800s.
15:26 --> 15:28 [SPEAKER_02]: and before it was what, uh, Reims?
15:28 --> 15:38 [SPEAKER_02]: Well, before we talk about that, does it change the way you think about, let's say George Washington, or, or got talking rolled or Galileo?
15:39 --> 15:47 [SPEAKER_02]: Does it change the way you think about Galileo to know that he didn't have access to rolled to other people?
15:47 --> 15:51 [SPEAKER_09]: Well, you know, access to rolled to other people, but they had to use something, right?
15:51 --> 15:51 [SPEAKER_02]: Mm-hmm.
15:51 --> 15:53 [SPEAKER_02]: I know all, I know all about this.
15:53 --> 15:55 [SPEAKER_09]: I'm concerned that,
15:55 --> 15:58 [SPEAKER_09]: I'm going to find out that we were better than that we are now.
15:58 --> 16:00 [SPEAKER_02]: How would you like to use C-shelves?
16:01 --> 16:01 [SPEAKER_02]: I'd like to.
16:01 --> 16:02 [SPEAKER_02]: We'd go in demolition, man.
16:06 --> 16:12 [SPEAKER_02]: First, the first reference to actual paper used for that purpose is the Chinese.
16:13 --> 16:14 [SPEAKER_02]: It's like six century.
16:15 --> 16:18 [SPEAKER_02]: And before that, they were kind of using a communal sponge.
16:21 --> 16:23 [SPEAKER_09]: It's a great trivia name, by the way, communal sponge.
16:24 --> 16:25 [SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, communal sponges.
16:26 --> 16:26 [SPEAKER_02]: Uh-huh.
16:26 --> 16:28 [SPEAKER_02]: Um, yeah.
16:28 --> 16:35 [SPEAKER_02]: There's a story about this gladiator in the first century, Seneca writes about him, who he commits suicide, but he can't even get it out.
16:35 --> 16:41 [SPEAKER_02]: He commits suicide by way of choking himself with a communal sponge.
16:41 --> 16:42 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I don't know.
16:43 --> 16:46 [SPEAKER_09]: Like that's going on.
16:46 --> 16:47 [SPEAKER_09]: Ha ha ha ha ha.
16:47 --> 16:48 [SPEAKER_09]: I mean, wow, right?
16:48 --> 16:52 [SPEAKER_09]: I mean, the... Ha ha ha.
16:52 --> 16:54 [SPEAKER_09]: So it sounds to me like maybe,
16:55 --> 16:59 [SPEAKER_09]: the cyanide pill was invented even before rolled on a paper that you're seeing that.
17:00 --> 17:02 [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, look, we got to kill ourselves better.
17:02 --> 17:08 [SPEAKER_02]: You want to kill yourself by, you know, hemlock or whatever, that'll make you a famous philosopher.
17:09 --> 17:12 [SPEAKER_02]: You want to kill yourself using the communal sponge.
17:13 --> 17:17 [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know what kind of statement you're making, but someone's going to write that down for sure.
17:18 --> 17:21 [SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, I mean, yeah, it's definitely worth recording.
17:21 --> 17:29 [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it seems like the far east has always sort of been a stage earlier than us on a lot of things.
17:29 --> 17:34 [SPEAKER_02]: Like I feel like the bidet is sort of like pretty common in Japan I've heard.
17:35 --> 17:35 [SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
17:35 --> 17:42 [SPEAKER_02]: I almost feel like there's something about the bidet that is appealing to me.
17:43 --> 17:45 [SPEAKER_09]: Well, they, yeah, like, do have like different buttons, right?
17:45 --> 17:46 [SPEAKER_09]: Like you have options.
17:46 --> 17:47 [SPEAKER_09]: You have like,
17:48 --> 18:03 [SPEAKER_09]: like the water is different temperatures and I like that you I like that you first went to the buttons well I think buttons are key I didn't because I don't know how you know levers would be a bigger issue
18:05 --> 18:07 [SPEAKER_02]: the bigger the problem, the bigger the lever.
18:08 --> 18:15 [SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, like I'm looking like a big ol' like electric chair or little lever that, you know, you see from all the old timing.
18:15 --> 18:20 [SPEAKER_09]: Like crank it down and then you just get a blast of cold water in your took-as.
18:20 --> 18:21 [SPEAKER_02]: You've got a guest over.
18:21 --> 18:24 [SPEAKER_02]: All right, now listen, no one's ever used that lever right there.
18:25 --> 18:25 [SPEAKER_02]: That's see that one?
18:26 --> 18:29 [SPEAKER_09]: Yes, in my end, I'll just have them in each bathroom.
18:29 --> 18:52 [SPEAKER_09]: And there's like, so you used to bid a number of times, I don't you don't, I bypass it, I'm old school, I'm analog, I yeah, I and I funny just now even realizing that I would sit there and I would go, oh, yeah, there's the day and there's toilet paper next to me, so I'm just going to use the toilet paper and I go with what I know, you know, no, I don't need the Wi-Fi password.
18:52 --> 18:58 [SPEAKER_09]: Do you have dial up, yeah, I'm just yeah, I'm like the idea of the free point line just seems weird to me.
19:01 --> 19:27 [SPEAKER_02]: I'm just I'm just I'm down on the post like in the book content dunk says look being a night you gotta at least wash yourself once a month And I'm thinking Man, pretty low bar Man, if you take rolled toilet paper out of my life and tell me that I'm washing in a river once a month Just drown me You like to be clean
19:28 --> 19:29 [SPEAKER_02]: I'd like to be clean.
19:29 --> 19:30 [SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
19:31 --> 19:31 [SPEAKER_09]: Yes.
19:33 --> 19:41 [SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, I just like when I hear that I'm like, is that what Rickets comes from like what's Rickets?
19:41 --> 19:45 [SPEAKER_02]: Okay, well before we get to Rickets, let me.
19:45 --> 19:47 [SPEAKER_09]: Welcome to properly Rickets.
19:48 --> 19:54 [SPEAKER_02]: So it's a name every season that we come up with a theme for our properly Howard movie review.
19:55 --> 19:56 [SPEAKER_02]: We play a little game.
19:56 --> 20:00 [SPEAKER_02]: And sometimes that game takes a little like the form of a draft.
20:02 --> 20:02 [SPEAKER_02]: There's different rules.
20:02 --> 20:04 [SPEAKER_02]: We come up with different rules to select.
20:05 --> 20:05 [SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
20:07 --> 20:09 [SPEAKER_02]: We've talked about a theme for our next season.
20:09 --> 20:10 [SPEAKER_02]: We're not ready to reveal that.
20:10 --> 20:12 [SPEAKER_02]: But here's what I've constructed for us today.
20:13 --> 20:17 [SPEAKER_02]: I've constructed a game in the world of movie trivia.
20:17 --> 20:21 [SPEAKER_09]: you and I love games, but I don't like to play with each other.
20:21 --> 20:21 [SPEAKER_02]: No.
20:22 --> 20:22 [SPEAKER_02]: No.
20:22 --> 20:39 [SPEAKER_02]: This game is not designed to select these movies, but the winner of this game will be able to select the majority of the categories, the genre categories that we use for the season, right?
20:41 --> 20:43 [SPEAKER_02]: So we're each going to start out with 50 points.
20:43 --> 20:49 [SPEAKER_02]: And when you earn points, that'll
20:49 --> 20:52 [SPEAKER_02]: year score would go up to 55, mine would go to 45.
20:53 --> 21:03 [SPEAKER_02]: And if that's where it ended, then you would get 60% of the genre choices for the next season.
21:04 --> 21:05 [SPEAKER_02]: And you can choose whatever you want.
21:05 --> 21:13 [SPEAKER_02]: You could choose like, I want movies that happen in space, or I want movies with a character named Roger, like it's totally up to you.
21:13 --> 21:19 [SPEAKER_02]: What you can't say is, I want a specific movie, right?
21:19 --> 21:42 [SPEAKER_09]: a type of movie rather than a specific like I would say like I want a movie I want to a movie set in the future that deals with seashells as a toilet paper alternative and then any movie that does that sure so okay so I can be real specific with the genre sure so I can so what you're saying is I can I can just pick movies
21:44 --> 21:46 [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I hadn't thought about that.
21:46 --> 21:58 [SPEAKER_09]: This is why this is why we don't like to play games with each other because we spend more time trying to circumvent the rules set for Okay, okay, before I go into the rules of this game.
21:58 --> 22:07 [SPEAKER_02]: I just want to say that it is my impression that you are something of a pop culture trivia savant
22:07 --> 22:12 [SPEAKER_02]: We'll see that is my impression of you and I've known you a very long time.
22:12 --> 22:28 [SPEAKER_02]: I think it was of a certain time I'm never not impressed All right now I care about trivia But for me, it's like like in my 20s I would just get out the trivia pursuit cards and memorize all the greens because I knew that was my my weak spot science and nature
22:28 --> 22:32 [SPEAKER_02]: I would like, I would not be good at it, and I wanted to be good.
22:32 --> 22:33 [SPEAKER_02]: I'm pretty competitive.
22:33 --> 22:47 [SPEAKER_02]: So I would just memor, at one point I did memorize every green question in the original trivia, trivial pursuit, but when it comes to pop culture, you just run circles around me.
22:48 --> 22:48 [SPEAKER_02]: That's my impression.
22:49 --> 22:50 [SPEAKER_02]: All right.
22:50 --> 22:54 [SPEAKER_02]: And you're not denying this, which I think tells me all I need to know.
22:55 --> 22:55 [SPEAKER_09]: Okay.
22:55 --> 22:56 [SPEAKER_02]: All right.
22:56 --> 22:57 [SPEAKER_09]: There's there's there's guardrails.
22:57 --> 22:58 [SPEAKER_02]: Here's what we're going to do.
22:58 --> 23:03 [SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to ask you about movies that we've covered on this podcast.
23:03 --> 23:06 [SPEAKER_09]: Well, so now that this is going to be interesting because as you know,
23:07 --> 23:11 [SPEAKER_09]: been demonstrated that I don't remember anything that's ever happened on our podcast.
23:11 --> 23:11 [SPEAKER_09]: All right.
23:11 --> 23:27 [SPEAKER_02]: What I'm going to do is I'm going to play you a clip from the movie and you're going to have the option to bet 5 points or 10 points on your ability to answer this question.
23:28 --> 23:28 [SPEAKER_02]: All right.
23:28 --> 23:29 [SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
23:29 --> 23:31 [SPEAKER_02]: So you have a bedding option.
23:32 --> 23:32 [SPEAKER_09]: Okay.
23:32 --> 23:36 [SPEAKER_09]: So obviously the more I wage or the more I stand to lose, that's right.
23:36 --> 23:37 [SPEAKER_09]: and then what happens if I went?
23:38 --> 23:42 [SPEAKER_02]: If you win, you can double down with a trivia question about the audio clip.
23:42 --> 23:43 [SPEAKER_02]: Let me give you an example.
23:44 --> 23:46 [SPEAKER_02]: If I played this.
23:46 --> 23:51 [SPEAKER_05]: Come on, come on, come on, come on.
23:51 --> 23:53 [SPEAKER_02]: All right, that was on repeat.
23:53 --> 23:55 [SPEAKER_02]: I didn't want it to be on repeat.
23:57 --> 24:07 [SPEAKER_02]: Wow, let's say you bet five points on that and then I give the listeners a chance just to like answer at home with their plan on at home.
24:09 --> 24:11 [SPEAKER_02]: I'll play it again if you ask me to play it again.
24:11 --> 24:12 [SPEAKER_02]: Come on.
24:13 --> 24:15 [SPEAKER_05]: Come on.
24:15 --> 24:15 [UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
24:16 --> 24:21 [SPEAKER_02]: I don't like that they actually don't write up there, it's very nice, damn, all right.
24:21 --> 24:26 [SPEAKER_02]: Then I give you a chance to answer, you're going to answer which movies that from, go ahead.
24:26 --> 24:28 [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, it's Carly goes away.
24:28 --> 24:30 [SPEAKER_02]: Carly does way, right?
24:30 --> 24:32 [SPEAKER_02]: And then the great vehicle.
24:32 --> 24:35 [SPEAKER_02]: In order to prove that, I'm going to play the field club.
24:35 --> 24:39 [SPEAKER_05]: Go every team man, I mean, come on.
24:40 --> 24:43 [SPEAKER_02]: So, I would play the entire clip, all right?
24:44 --> 24:45 [SPEAKER_02]: Sorry for you.
24:45 --> 24:47 [SPEAKER_02]: All right, now, let's say you just earn five points.
24:47 --> 24:53 [SPEAKER_02]: I'd say, okay, do you want to double down on a trivia question related to- Okay, so I give advice for getting a movie.
24:54 --> 24:57 [SPEAKER_09]: Now you can double down on a trivia.
24:57 --> 25:03 [SPEAKER_02]: Okay, so let's do that and you can walk away, you can walk away with 10 points at the end of that.
25:03 --> 25:05 [SPEAKER_02]: Okay, all right, so that's just an example.
25:05 --> 25:08 [SPEAKER_09]: And how do you, and so I get the point, how do you get one?
25:09 --> 25:12 [SPEAKER_02]: Well, I start with 50 points, and you start out with 50 points.
25:12 --> 25:17 [SPEAKER_02]: The question is, can you earn 100% of these points?
25:18 --> 25:22 [SPEAKER_02]: If you earn 100%, you get to just choose all of the movie categories.
25:22 --> 25:23 [SPEAKER_09]: Gotcha.
25:23 --> 25:27 [SPEAKER_09]: OK. And so if I get the points, they come out of your bucket.
25:27 --> 25:27 [SPEAKER_02]: That's right.
25:27 --> 25:28 [SPEAKER_02]: This is like Ben Stan's money.
25:29 --> 25:29 [SPEAKER_09]: Gotcha.
25:30 --> 25:36 [SPEAKER_09]: Okay, so you're so we're both sitting here with 50 right now We just walk away and we get 50 50 of the in a sense.
25:37 --> 25:39 [SPEAKER_02]: I have a lot of power because I chose these right?
25:39 --> 25:47 [SPEAKER_02]: True, it's true, but You covered all these movies Right, we know that you've seen these movies.
25:47 --> 25:48 [SPEAKER_02]: I know them.
25:48 --> 25:50 [SPEAKER_09]: Do we know that I know they exist?
25:50 --> 25:55 [SPEAKER_02]: And we know that you happen to be very good at pop culture trivia
25:56 --> 25:58 [SPEAKER_09]: But I don't know what direction you're going.
25:58 --> 26:02 [SPEAKER_09]: Like you could be like, how long is this movie in minutes, right?
26:02 --> 26:03 [SPEAKER_02]: And I'm like, that's true.
26:03 --> 26:06 [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you're going to have to decide whether or not you want to double down.
26:06 --> 26:09 [SPEAKER_02]: You may choose not to do that because I lose all of it.
26:10 --> 26:11 [SPEAKER_02]: You would lose all of it.
26:11 --> 26:11 [SPEAKER_02]: That's right.
26:12 --> 26:13 [SPEAKER_02]: OK. All right.
26:13 --> 26:15 [SPEAKER_02]: So here's how this works.
26:15 --> 26:17 [SPEAKER_02]: I've got five audio clues.
26:18 --> 26:21 [SPEAKER_02]: The first one I'm going to play for you has five syllables.
26:21 --> 26:22 [SPEAKER_02]: The second has four.
26:22 --> 26:24 [SPEAKER_02]: The third has three.
26:24 --> 26:26 [SPEAKER_02]: then two, then one.
26:27 --> 26:31 [SPEAKER_02]: So you might think that it's gonna get harder as we go.
26:31 --> 26:34 [SPEAKER_02]: I guess it depends, it depends.
26:34 --> 26:39 [SPEAKER_02]: Like some of these I think you're definitely gonna get, some of these things I try to make challenging.
26:39 --> 26:42 [SPEAKER_02]: I try to make this, I don't want them to get all of them, right?
26:43 --> 26:49 [SPEAKER_02]: So let me know if you feel like you've got a good handle on this game or playing.
26:49 --> 26:50 [SPEAKER_02]: Nope, but I wanna play.
26:52 --> 26:56 [SPEAKER_02]: Okay, I'm gonna suggest one more wrinkled to this game.
26:57 --> 26:58 [SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
26:58 --> 27:09 [SPEAKER_02]: If you get the audio clue wrong, you then have to incorporate that exact phrase into your next standup comedy set.
27:10 --> 27:10 [SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
27:11 --> 27:20 [SPEAKER_02]: If you get the audio clue correct, I have to incorporate that exact phrase into my next classroom lecture.
27:21 --> 27:23 [SPEAKER_09]: man really hoping for Carly Rose way.
27:23 --> 27:29 [SPEAKER_02]: I'm actually recording a lecture right now.
27:29 --> 27:31 [SPEAKER_02]: This is sort of like not an in-class thing.
27:31 --> 27:32 [SPEAKER_02]: It's for an online class.
27:33 --> 27:38 [SPEAKER_02]: But you know, as soon as we hang up, I'll be working on recording that lecture.
27:38 --> 27:42 [SPEAKER_02]: It's about the social placement of Unix in the ancient world.
27:43 --> 27:45 [SPEAKER_09]: Oh, well, the Carly Rose way would be perfect.
27:45 --> 27:47 [SPEAKER_02]: I was thinking, yeah, that could work.
27:49 --> 27:53 [SPEAKER_09]: back the collective cry of the unique.
27:56 --> 27:58 [SPEAKER_05]: Look at me man.
28:00 --> 28:04 [SPEAKER_02]: So all right, so that, all right, now this is honor system.
28:04 --> 28:05 [SPEAKER_02]: So I'm not going to see your set.
28:05 --> 28:06 [SPEAKER_02]: You're not going to watch my lecture.
28:07 --> 28:13 [SPEAKER_02]: But at some point, I want one of us to report back to the other about how this whole
28:13 --> 28:21 [SPEAKER_02]: So I just, you know, just to call this out, the, the greater the syllables, the more difficult it's going to be to incorporate.
28:21 --> 28:28 [SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, but if there's like a stream though, like a one syllable stream would be pretty great.
28:28 --> 28:30 [SPEAKER_09]: I think you're lecture.
28:30 --> 28:56 [SPEAKER_02]: and as they became unix so uh the first clue is five syllables um you started out with 50 points do you want to wage your 10 or would you rather wage your five point uh five syllables um i'm gonna wage your 10 so he's gonna wage your 10 just writing this down
28:58 --> 29:02 [SPEAKER_04]: Moved plastic seats.
29:02 --> 29:04 [SPEAKER_02]: Alright, now don't answer right away.
29:05 --> 29:09 [SPEAKER_02]: We're going to give our listeners at home a chance to...
29:11 --> 29:14 [SPEAKER_02]: I kind of find these five syllables.
29:15 --> 29:16 [SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to play it one more time.
29:17 --> 29:19 [SPEAKER_04]: Moved plastic seats!
29:20 --> 29:22 [SPEAKER_02]: All right, Steve, can you identify the film?
29:23 --> 29:24 [SPEAKER_09]: Wow, that's a great one.
29:25 --> 29:30 [SPEAKER_02]: What in what film does do those five syllables occur?
29:30 --> 29:37 [SPEAKER_09]: I am trying to figure out the voice, probably more than anything, because that's something I'm really stuck.
29:37 --> 29:40 [SPEAKER_09]: It's the, you want to hear it again?
29:40 --> 29:46 [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I think I think I know who it is, but loaded plastic seats.
29:50 --> 29:54 [SPEAKER_09]: I'm a wild guess here, but is it gross point blank?
29:54 --> 29:55 [SPEAKER_09]: It is not.
29:56 --> 29:57 [SPEAKER_02]: Can you recognize the actor?
29:58 --> 30:00 [SPEAKER_09]: See, I was thinking, it sounded like Q sack initially to me.
30:01 --> 30:02 [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, all right.
30:02 --> 30:05 [SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to play you the full clip now, OK.
30:05 --> 30:08 [SPEAKER_02]: So you've just lost, I now have 10 points.
30:08 --> 30:11 [SPEAKER_09]: Right, molded, plastic seats into you.
30:13 --> 30:14 [SPEAKER_02]: I cannot wait.
30:14 --> 30:16 [SPEAKER_02]: I was certain you were going to get this.
30:17 --> 30:20 [SPEAKER_04]: Now, you people, you like to go sit and church on Sunday, don't you?
30:22 --> 30:24 [SPEAKER_04]: You like to sit and watch the Super Bowl?
30:26 --> 30:27 [SPEAKER_04]: Sit on what?
30:27 --> 30:29 [SPEAKER_09]: I love this movie so much.
30:29 --> 30:37 [SPEAKER_04]: You sit on moaned plastic seats, molded to your mouth and the hikes.
30:38 --> 30:41 [SPEAKER_09]: It's crazy that I thought John Cusack and Richard Prior were the same.
30:42 --> 30:47 [SPEAKER_02]: You know, Kewsack and prior are all often confused.
30:47 --> 30:47 [SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
30:47 --> 30:52 [SPEAKER_09]: I mean, yeah, we always used to call Richard prior black Kewsack.
30:54 --> 30:55 [SPEAKER_02]: So this is Superman 3.
30:55 --> 30:56 [SPEAKER_09]: Yes, it is.
30:56 --> 31:03 [SPEAKER_02]: In this film, well, this particular scene, Richard prior is impersonating.
31:03 --> 31:15 [SPEAKER_02]: So some military man from the Pentagon who is propping up the need for American interests in chemically produced plastics.
31:15 --> 31:21 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so yeah, I know that happened in this movie.
31:22 --> 31:32 [SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, and as the as the monologue as you played the whole thing like my first thought was like, we have watched any Richard prior movies, then I was like,
31:33 --> 31:48 [SPEAKER_02]: So as, you know, he's on stage, he's really kind of talking down to the audience, while Superman is standing there, kind of trying to figure out what the heck has happened in, which is one of the best scenes of the movie, I think.
31:49 --> 31:54 [SPEAKER_09]: This is why you need the Justice League, right, because Batman would be doing the figuring out.
31:55 --> 32:00 [SPEAKER_02]: All right, Steve, would you like to go double or nothing and you got zero points?
32:00 --> 32:02 [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know how this is going to work.
32:02 --> 32:05 [SPEAKER_02]: Would you like to go double or nothing on a trivia question?
32:05 --> 32:08 [SPEAKER_02]: This does nothing do affect your score.
32:08 --> 32:08 [SPEAKER_09]: All right.
32:08 --> 32:13 [SPEAKER_09]: So, I mean, if I doubled it, it would be the same as... Mm-hmm.
32:13 --> 32:13 [SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
32:13 --> 32:14 [SPEAKER_09]: So, let's double it.
32:14 --> 32:15 [SPEAKER_02]: All right.
32:15 --> 32:15 [SPEAKER_02]: Good.
32:15 --> 32:16 [SPEAKER_02]: All right.
32:16 --> 32:17 [SPEAKER_02]: Here's the trivia question.
32:18 --> 32:18 [SPEAKER_02]: Superman theory.
32:18 --> 32:18 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
32:18 --> 32:19 [SPEAKER_09]: You can't redeem anything.
32:19 --> 32:20 [SPEAKER_09]: I can't get anything back.
32:20 --> 32:21 [SPEAKER_09]: I can't.
32:21 --> 32:27 [SPEAKER_02]: You know, you're the score at this point all on the 40 you 60 me.
32:29 --> 32:29 [SPEAKER_02]: All right.
32:29 --> 32:31 [SPEAKER_02]: Do you feel like I feel like you should have got that one.
32:31 --> 32:32 [SPEAKER_09]: I do too.
32:32 --> 32:32 [SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
32:32 --> 32:32 [SPEAKER_02]: All right.
32:32 --> 32:36 [SPEAKER_02]: Here is the trivia question for Superman three.
32:36 --> 32:51 [SPEAKER_02]: So, Ram three was the first Superman film where in Christopher Reeve got top billing, which actors received top billing in the first two Superman films.
32:52 --> 32:55 [SPEAKER_09]: And I believe that would be Gene Hackman in two, correct?
32:55 --> 32:56 [SPEAKER_09]: And Marlon Brando in one.
32:57 --> 32:58 [SPEAKER_02]: That is correct.
32:58 --> 33:02 [SPEAKER_02]: Now, just think if you would have got that right of 20 points.
33:02 --> 33:03 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, there's something.
33:03 --> 33:12 [SPEAKER_02]: All right, I think we're ready to move on to just just everyone knows Superman 3.
33:12 --> 33:36 [SPEAKER_02]: is a film that we covered on this this very feed you could go search our archives for our coverage of Superman 3 4 I'd watch it though for sure don't just take my word for it for for a great time I had a wonderful time covering Superman it is uh it's the godfather 3 of the Superman
33:40 --> 33:46 [SPEAKER_02]: Uh, for your four syllable audio clue, would you like to wage your five or 10 points?
33:46 --> 33:47 [SPEAKER_09]: A little, a little gun shy now.
33:47 --> 33:48 [SPEAKER_09]: They want to go five.
33:48 --> 33:49 [SPEAKER_09]: I'm going to go five.
33:49 --> 33:52 [SPEAKER_09]: I don't, I can't, I can't risk dropping down to 30 percent, right?
33:52 --> 33:53 [SPEAKER_09]: Right, I'm okay.
33:54 --> 33:54 [SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
33:54 --> 33:56 [SPEAKER_02]: Well, this, this will be an interesting test.
33:57 --> 33:59 [SPEAKER_02]: Uh, are you ready for your clue?
33:59 --> 33:59 [SPEAKER_02]: Sure.
34:00 --> 34:06 [SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to play it again.
34:09 --> 34:09 [SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to.
34:12 --> 34:18 [SPEAKER_09]: And I'm ashamed as I want to say I'm a machine.
34:18 --> 34:19 [SPEAKER_09]: I'm a machine.
34:19 --> 34:20 [SPEAKER_09]: I thought I said, I'm okay.
34:21 --> 34:22 [SPEAKER_09]: I'll play a one more time.
34:22 --> 34:23 [SPEAKER_09]: Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.
34:23 --> 34:24 [SPEAKER_00]: And I'm a machine.
34:25 --> 34:34 [SPEAKER_09]: That little chirp suggests something is ex machina that is correct.
34:34 --> 34:36 [SPEAKER_09]: Okay, the chirp is more than the I'm a machine.
34:36 --> 34:38 [SPEAKER_09]: The chirp is a sort of romney to that.
34:40 --> 34:42 [SPEAKER_02]: It brings you up to 45, puts me to 55.
34:43 --> 34:48 [SPEAKER_02]: Now the question is, do you want to double down with a true rule?
34:48 --> 34:51 [SPEAKER_09]: I don't think I have enough knowledge of X-Mocking at the double down.
34:51 --> 34:53 [SPEAKER_09]: I will take it that.
34:53 --> 34:54 [SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
34:54 --> 34:58 [SPEAKER_02]: Would you like to hear the trivia question that you just refused?
34:58 --> 35:01 [SPEAKER_09]: Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.
35:01 --> 35:08 [SPEAKER_02]: In 2016, X-Mocking a single Oscar in which category did X-Mocking a win?
35:10 --> 35:14 [SPEAKER_02]: No, it was achievement and visual effects.
35:14 --> 35:22 [SPEAKER_02]: And it beat out several major motion films like Star Wars and whatnot, the Force Awakens.
35:22 --> 35:25 [SPEAKER_02]: It was, I think Fury Road was this year.
35:26 --> 35:30 [SPEAKER_02]: It really did the entire film, only cost like 15 million.
35:31 --> 35:35 [SPEAKER_02]: And so it was sort of an upset or visual effects this year.
35:36 --> 35:40 [SPEAKER_02]: It's a good thing that you did not.
35:41 --> 35:47 [SPEAKER_02]: One of my favorite films, it never disappoints.
35:47 --> 35:48 [SPEAKER_02]: I could watch it over and over and over.
35:49 --> 35:49 [SPEAKER_09]: It's very good.
35:50 --> 35:52 [SPEAKER_09]: It's the right kind of unsettling at times.
35:53 --> 35:55 [SPEAKER_09]: It's just visually fantastic.
35:55 --> 36:02 [SPEAKER_02]: It's my favorite kind of sci-fi film because it almost, I don't feel like I'm in a world of magic.
36:03 --> 36:09 [SPEAKER_02]: I feel like you tweet one thing about technology and there's a social consequence because of it.
36:10 --> 36:11 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's good.
36:11 --> 36:35 [SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, all right for your three syllable audio clue do you want to wait your five or ten I'm gonna go with five so I don't have now you have to say I'm a machine in your next lecture Oh, I do I'll write that down Wait, how am I gonna do that The same way that I'm gonna say molded plastic seeds I'll figure it out
36:35 --> 36:38 [SPEAKER_09]: It'll work out as I'm humping the stool on stage.
36:38 --> 36:41 [SPEAKER_09]: I'll go, I really wish that I instead had molded plastic seat.
36:47 --> 36:48 [SPEAKER_11]: I don't understand how I can make it.
36:49 --> 36:50 [SPEAKER_02]: All right, I'll figure it out.
36:51 --> 36:54 [SPEAKER_09]: I know my image show is on Tuesday and it's rather like the lucrative gig.
36:56 --> 36:57 [SPEAKER_02]: It's gonna be your best.
36:57 --> 36:58 [SPEAKER_02]: It'll be your best joke.
36:58 --> 37:00 [SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
37:00 --> 37:00 [SPEAKER_02]: All right.
37:01 --> 37:07 [SPEAKER_02]: Squared now, you a 45, 55, are you gonna wage your 5 or 10 for your next clue?
37:08 --> 37:11 [SPEAKER_02]: Still gunshots, I'm just thinking with 5.
37:11 --> 37:12 [SPEAKER_02]: All right, here it comes.
37:14 --> 37:15 [SPEAKER_02]: Go the man.
37:18 --> 37:18 [SPEAKER_02]: I'll play it again.
37:18 --> 37:19 [SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
37:20 --> 37:21 [SPEAKER_02]: Go the man.
37:23 --> 37:50 [SPEAKER_02]: You're the man, you're the man, you're the man, you're the man, you're the man, you're the man, you're the man, you're the man, you're the man, you're the man, you're the man, you're the man, you're the man, you're the man, you're the man, you're the man, you're the man, you're the man, you're the man, you're the man, you're the man, you're the man, you're the man, you're the man, you're the man, you're the man, you're the man, you're the man, you're the man, you're the man, you're the man, you're the man, you're the man, you're the man, you're the man, you're the man, you're the man, you're the man, you're the man, you're the man, you're the man, you're the man, you're the man, you're the man, you're the
37:51 --> 37:51 [SPEAKER_02]: we have.
37:52 --> 37:54 [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, um, Tango and cash.
37:54 --> 37:55 [SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
37:58 --> 38:00 [SPEAKER_02]: And Batman 89.
38:01 --> 38:02 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
38:02 --> 38:02 [SPEAKER_02]: All right.
38:02 --> 38:05 [SPEAKER_02]: So I, what do I get for, for knowing those?
38:08 --> 38:10 [SPEAKER_02]: You're, you are incorrect.
38:10 --> 38:19 [SPEAKER_02]: It's not Jack
38:20 --> 38:25 [SPEAKER_02]: I can't believe we've covered the reject plans films and not sitting slickers.
38:26 --> 38:26 [SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
38:26 --> 38:28 [SPEAKER_09]: Oh, the man.
38:30 --> 38:30 [SPEAKER_09]: What the.
38:32 --> 38:34 [SPEAKER_09]: I don't know anything.
38:34 --> 38:36 [SPEAKER_09]: I always say I know this voice.
38:36 --> 38:38 [SPEAKER_02]: You made me watch this film.
38:38 --> 38:40 [SPEAKER_02]: I don't want you to know.
38:40 --> 38:42 [SPEAKER_09]: I make you watch a lot of movies.
38:42 --> 38:45 [SPEAKER_02]: I just want you know, I turn about as fair play.
38:45 --> 38:47 [SPEAKER_02]: You're gonna make me watch a movie.
38:47 --> 38:51 [SPEAKER_02]: I'm gonna make you listen to three syllables from that movie.
38:51 --> 38:52 [SPEAKER_09]: That's fair, that's fair.
38:54 --> 38:59 [SPEAKER_09]: Oh, let's see, man, the man, man, that's frustrating.
38:59 --> 39:03 [SPEAKER_11]: You're gonna love it when I play the full audio clip.
39:03 --> 39:09 [SPEAKER_09]: Oh, man, this is, boy, I can't, I'm trying to think of though.
39:09 --> 39:31 [SPEAKER_09]: train nailed down movies that I've made you watch and it's like, well, uh, I can't be, uh, I don't think it's here with a large, um, gosh, oh, I'm on, uh, boy, I'm going to just have to, I think, yes, I suppose.
39:31 --> 39:33 [SPEAKER_09]: I'm going to say 3 miles of grace.
39:34 --> 39:36 [SPEAKER_02]: It is not here.
39:36 --> 39:56 [SPEAKER_07]: I'll play the full clip now.
39:57 --> 39:58 [SPEAKER_07]: I was watching to be.
39:58 --> 40:01 [SPEAKER_02]: Do you know now, the Wolfman, right?
40:01 --> 40:03 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it is the Wolfman.
40:03 --> 40:04 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it is sir.
40:05 --> 40:07 [SPEAKER_02]: Empathy.
40:07 --> 40:07 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
40:08 --> 40:09 [SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
40:09 --> 40:09 [SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
40:09 --> 40:12 [SPEAKER_09]: Don't sleep on Anthony Hopkins portrays his man.
40:13 --> 40:16 [SPEAKER_02]: I want you to know that is now 40 to 60.
40:16 --> 40:18 [SPEAKER_02]: And I'm beating you.
40:19 --> 40:22 [SPEAKER_09]: And do you want to hear the trivia question?
40:22 --> 40:23 [SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, and I have to say you're the man.
40:23 --> 40:26 [SPEAKER_09]: And molded plastic.
40:30 --> 40:35 [SPEAKER_02]: Um, all right, the gypsies in the wolfman owned a grizzly bear.
40:36 --> 40:52 [SPEAKER_02]: This bear was CGI originally purpose for which fantasy film, oh, um, it wasn't that one with um, the narrow and Michelle fiber, right?
40:52 --> 40:54 [SPEAKER_02]: No, it's the golden compass.
40:55 --> 40:59 [SPEAKER_09]: Oh, that's when I was actually thinking
40:59 --> 41:08 [SPEAKER_09]: No, no, no, no, no, no, but like the golden compass is what I, I'm completing them, uh, like, is it like star dust or something that they're, what is the dinner?
41:08 --> 41:10 [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I, I never saw that one.
41:10 --> 41:12 [SPEAKER_02]: Uh, but that, yeah, no, that, that one.
41:12 --> 41:23 [SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, that's, so I'm wondering, they must, like, star dust is like, was the visual, I was, there's, they're not that similar in terms of the, um, the cover, but a golden compass is what I was going.
41:23 --> 41:26 [SPEAKER_02]: Golden Compass had a polar bear.
41:26 --> 41:30 [SPEAKER_02]: And basically, they just changed the color of the bear.
41:30 --> 41:32 [SPEAKER_09]: And they both came out the same year.
41:32 --> 41:34 [SPEAKER_09]: That might be part of the issue is there.
41:34 --> 41:36 [SPEAKER_09]: And the covers aren't actually not that dissimilar.
41:37 --> 41:38 [SPEAKER_09]: Interesting.
41:38 --> 41:39 [SPEAKER_09]: All right, a play-up.
41:39 --> 41:42 [SPEAKER_09]: So I give myself a little bit of credit for following.
41:42 --> 41:47 [SPEAKER_09]: If there was actual points on the line, I might have gotten a bullet.
41:47 --> 41:48 [SPEAKER_02]: I don't think so.
41:48 --> 41:48 [SPEAKER_02]: All right.
41:50 --> 41:53 [SPEAKER_02]: Now, now you're 10 points in the hole here.
41:54 --> 41:59 [SPEAKER_02]: You have a two syllable clue coming up, what do you want to wait your five or ten?
41:59 --> 42:00 [SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to go five.
42:00 --> 42:05 [SPEAKER_09]: I've got to just into my way back here, all right, here it comes.
42:08 --> 42:13 [SPEAKER_11]: Pork chop pork chop, I'm going to play it again.
42:15 --> 42:16 [SPEAKER_01]: Pork chop.
42:19 --> 42:21 [SPEAKER_09]: I'm going to three thousand miles of grace line.
42:21 --> 42:23 [SPEAKER_09]: You got it right because that's got there.
42:25 --> 42:30 [SPEAKER_11]: You got it right All right, let me tell you one.
42:30 --> 42:31 [SPEAKER_06]: I have a new one.
42:31 --> 42:51 [SPEAKER_06]: Let's say pork chop pork chop greasy greasy we beat their fucking team easy easy I'm gonna watch that today It was a funny scene and then otherwise Horrible movie yeah
42:52 --> 43:08 [SPEAKER_09]: But you did get you get five points for that and do you want to double down I'm that I want to go for I don't know much about this movie, but I'm willing to This this feels like I could I could get the I don't know we'll see what your questions for you.
43:08 --> 43:09 [SPEAKER_02]: All right, so you are going to double down.
43:09 --> 43:09 [SPEAKER_02]: All right.
43:09 --> 43:10 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
43:11 --> 43:26 [SPEAKER_02]: Kurt Russell has featured in multiple Elvis-related films, including an early part in a film with the actual Elvis Presley, was the name of the film in which both Russell and Presley both acted.
43:27 --> 43:28 [SPEAKER_09]: Is it strong as an end of the world?
43:28 --> 43:38 [SPEAKER_02]: Man, that is a very good guess, but it is not correct.
43:38 --> 43:39 [SPEAKER_02]: at the world fair.
43:40 --> 43:40 [SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, that's right.
43:42 --> 43:44 [SPEAKER_09]: So yeah, no, that's, that's, that's on me.
43:45 --> 43:47 [SPEAKER_02]: So you're back down to 40.
43:47 --> 43:53 [SPEAKER_02]: And I know 60 again, but you do not have to say pork chop.
43:53 --> 43:54 [SPEAKER_02]: That's true.
43:54 --> 43:55 [SPEAKER_02]: That's good.
43:55 --> 43:56 [SPEAKER_02]: But I, you do.
43:56 --> 44:00 [SPEAKER_02]: I have to say, all right, I don't pork chop.
44:00 --> 44:00 [SPEAKER_02]: Huh.
44:02 --> 44:05 [SPEAKER_02]: Now that that's actually going to be more difficult than I'm a machine.
44:05 --> 44:09 [SPEAKER_09]: Yes, strongest man in the world was to to late in the game.
44:10 --> 44:20 [SPEAKER_02]: How am I going to go to my lecture on the social placement of ancient Unix and don't like try to like turn it into I'm a poor shot machine.
44:20 --> 44:21 [SPEAKER_09]: Those are two different.
44:23 --> 44:25 [SPEAKER_02]: Huh, all right, I'll figure it out.
44:25 --> 44:29 [SPEAKER_09]: Maybe just do the actual entire line from the movie.
44:31 --> 44:32 [SPEAKER_09]: Poor job, poor job, greasy, greasy.
44:34 --> 44:41 [SPEAKER_02]: I would definitely have to drop an F-bomb in my lecture in order to make that happen.
44:42 --> 44:47 [SPEAKER_02]: All right, we are down to a single syllable Steve.
44:49 --> 44:51 [SPEAKER_02]: You're in the whole 10 points.
44:51 --> 44:55 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I want you to know that you absolutely should have got that trivia question.
44:56 --> 45:00 [SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, that's on me for sure on me.
45:00 --> 45:01 [SPEAKER_02]: 5 or 10.
45:02 --> 45:08 [SPEAKER_09]: I'm trying to, it's like the, the, the smart play is to just try to work my way back to to 50%.
45:08 --> 45:09 [SPEAKER_09]: So I'm going to go a 5.
45:09 --> 45:11 [SPEAKER_02]: Is that your final choice?
45:11 --> 45:13 [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you could end with like a big bang here.
45:13 --> 45:19 [SPEAKER_09]: I could end with a big bang, but I could also really, I mean, if I do that, and then that I'm seeding 30%.
45:19 --> 45:19 [SPEAKER_09]: Right.
45:20 --> 45:22 [SPEAKER_02]: All right.
45:22 --> 45:22 [SPEAKER_02]: Here we go.
45:23 --> 45:24 [SPEAKER_02]: For five points.
45:26 --> 45:26 [SPEAKER_03]: Boys.
45:28 --> 45:30 [SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to play it again.
45:30 --> 45:32 [SPEAKER_02]: Boys.
45:36 --> 45:36 [SPEAKER_02]: Hmm.
45:36 --> 45:37 [SPEAKER_02]: Can you identify the actor first?
45:40 --> 45:41 [SPEAKER_02]: Um, not easily.
45:43 --> 45:43 [SPEAKER_02]: Boys.
45:43 --> 45:49 [SPEAKER_02]: I feel like it's a pretty recognizable voice.
45:50 --> 45:53 [SPEAKER_02]: But I've just watched a film with this guy in it.
45:53 --> 45:56 [SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, and then you get the you're just getting one.
45:56 --> 46:25 [SPEAKER_09]: out of context, word, boys, oh yes, hmm, I was almost positive you were going to get this, yeah, yeah, um, boys, one more time please, boys, I just don't think I got it, um,
46:27 --> 46:32 [SPEAKER_02]: And you can not guess what I'm trying to put some money on my hands as a bummer.
46:35 --> 46:39 [SPEAKER_02]: Um, it is maybe the film we've talked about most on this podcast really.
46:39 --> 46:41 [SPEAKER_09]: That's interesting.
46:42 --> 46:43 [SPEAKER_02]: So be interested here.
46:44 --> 46:48 [SPEAKER_02]: Your perspective on what film that is that we talk about the most.
46:48 --> 46:50 [SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
46:51 --> 46:52 [SPEAKER_09]: It's not both fiction.
46:53 --> 46:53 [SPEAKER_02]: Is that your answer?
46:54 --> 46:56 [SPEAKER_09]: Yes, my answer.
46:56 --> 46:58 [SPEAKER_02]: It is not both fiction.
46:59 --> 47:00 [SPEAKER_03]: I'll need a moment alone, boys.
47:04 --> 47:06 [SPEAKER_03]: I'm only laughing on the outside.
47:06 --> 47:07 [SPEAKER_03]: I don't know.
47:07 --> 47:10 [SPEAKER_03]: My smile is just skinny.
47:12 --> 47:17 [SPEAKER_03]: If you could see inside, I feel crying.
47:17 --> 47:19 [SPEAKER_03]: You might join me for a week.
47:22 --> 47:30 [SPEAKER_02]: Now, I could have included, I mean, in that same scene, you've got Michael Keaton saying the word nuts.
47:30 --> 47:33 [SPEAKER_02]: Oh yeah, that's a... And I thought that would be way too easy.
47:34 --> 47:36 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I thought this would.
47:37 --> 47:37 [SPEAKER_02]: Boys.
47:38 --> 47:39 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, now I hear it, right?
47:39 --> 47:46 [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I think this exercise is, it's gonna be challenging no matter what, especially when you get down to one syllable.
47:49 --> 47:51 [SPEAKER_02]: Do you wanna hear the trivia question?
47:52 --> 47:52 [SPEAKER_09]: Yes.
47:53 --> 47:54 [SPEAKER_02]: All right.
47:54 --> 48:03 [SPEAKER_02]: Michael Keaton said that wearing the bat suit limited one of his five senses, which of Keaton's senses was hindered hearing.
48:04 --> 48:05 [SPEAKER_02]: You got it.
48:05 --> 48:06 [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
48:06 --> 48:12 [SPEAKER_02]: So just to recap, what are the phrases that you will be incorporating into your next standup?
48:14 --> 48:19 [SPEAKER_09]: My phrases are boys,
48:19 --> 48:21 [SPEAKER_09]: and molded plastic seats.
48:25 --> 48:31 [SPEAKER_02]: And I have to incorporate into my lecture on the social placement of Unix and the ancient worlds.
48:32 --> 48:34 [SPEAKER_02]: I'm a machine and pork chop.
48:35 --> 48:36 [SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, pork chop's great.
48:40 --> 48:44 [SPEAKER_02]: So, do you have any sense of what you might do with your phrases?
48:45 --> 48:49 [SPEAKER_02]: Uh, I mean, boys seems pretty simple.
48:49 --> 48:51 [SPEAKER_09]: Boys seems like I can work that in.
48:52 --> 48:52 [SPEAKER_09]: Uh, you're the man.
48:52 --> 48:57 [SPEAKER_09]: I do have the advantage of, uh, you know, maybe riffing or having some crowd work opportunities.
48:58 --> 48:58 [SPEAKER_09]: Uh-huh.
48:59 --> 49:01 [SPEAKER_02]: So, okay.
49:01 --> 49:02 [SPEAKER_02]: All right.
49:02 --> 49:04 [SPEAKER_02]: So you might bring that into crowdwork.
49:04 --> 49:07 [SPEAKER_02]: Like, hey, you two, a couple have a conversation.
49:07 --> 49:08 [SPEAKER_02]: All right.
49:08 --> 49:08 [SPEAKER_02]: You the man.
49:09 --> 49:10 [SPEAKER_02]: You the people.
49:10 --> 49:11 [SPEAKER_02]: Are you like boys?
49:14 --> 49:15 [SPEAKER_02]: You boys here together?
49:16 --> 49:21 [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, any suggestions for how I shouldn't cooperate pork chop into May.
49:22 --> 49:31 [SPEAKER_09]: I would just refer to yourself as pork chop in third person What doctor for chop would be would be good?
49:32 --> 49:46 [SPEAKER_09]: Well, I think keep kind of self doctor pork chop I'm Dr. Anthony Lodon, but you can all call me doctor pork chop
49:51 --> 49:53 [SPEAKER_09]: And at the end, he's a Dr.
49:53 --> 49:54 [SPEAKER_09]: Port Shop out.
50:59 --> 51:10 [SPEAKER_09]: Dr. Porchap out in a cocoon of horror.
